Contributor’s Links post for January 27th, 2019

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

“Bombs target cathedral in south Philippines”
TRT World Now – Published on January 26, 2019

Security officials say the first bomb went off in or near the Jolo cathedral during a Sunday Mass, followed by a second blast outside the compound as government forces were responding to the attack.

    • Philippines bomb: 27 DEAD and dozens injured after HUGE twin blast by Catholic cathedral (express, Jan 27, 2019)
      https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1078375/Philippines-terror-attack-bomb-catholic-church-explosion-Mindanao-19-dead-dozens-injured

“AT LEAST 27 people were killed and dozens more injured after two huge blasts went off near a Catholic cathedral on the Philippine island of Mindanao on Sunday.

The attack came days after a predominantly Muslim area in the region voted “yes” in a referendum for greater autonomy. At least 27 people were killed with scores more injured, local officials said. Colonel Gerry Besana, spokesman of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, said the first blast killed two civilians and wounded 20 other churchgoers inside the Jolo Cathedral called Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Sulu province.

Mr Besana said the second explosive device was detonated as the soldiers responded to the initial attack inside the church, leaving 15 other members of the security forces wounded.

The government’s plan to create a self-administered area for the Muslim-dominated parts of Mindanao was backed by 85 percent of voters in a referendum last Monday, paving the way for a three-year transition towards elections for a legislature that will choose an executive.

The country’s national police chief Oscar Albayalde said at least 27 people died, including five troops and three civilians.

At least 77 others were wounded.

Jolo island has long been troubled by the presence of Abu Sayyaf militants, who are blacklisted by the United States and the Philippines as a terrorist organisation because of bombings, kidnappings and beheadings.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

There are terrorist factions in the region, aside from the small but brutal Abu Sayyaf group, who align themselves with the Islamic State group, which has also carried out assaults, including ransom kidnappings and beheadings.

Abu Sayyaf militants are still holding at least five hostages — a Dutch national, two Malaysians, an Indonesian and a Filipino — in their jungle bases mostly near Sulu’s Patikul town, not far from Jolo.

According to unofficial reports, casualties included both troops and civilians.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana in a statement: “I have directed our troops to heighten their alert level, secure all places of worships and public places at once, and initiate pro-active security measures to thwart hostile plans.”

Photos on social media showed debris and bodies lying on a busy street outside the cathedral as frightened churchgoers scrambled to get to safety.

Rappler reported local police as saying: “The casualties were immediately evacuated. AFP, PNP (Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police) personnel are securing the area.”

They said two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were used to bomb the cathedral.

Last week’s referendum came at a critical time for the Philippines, which hopes to end decades of separatist conflict in Mindanao that experts say has given rise to extremism.

That has stoked fears that foreign radicals will gravitate to Mindanao to capitalise on porous borders, jungles and mountains, and an abundance of arms.”

      • I’ve been wondering about “Express” lately. Seems they’ve partnered with TRT. Ah-hah!

Factional Tard media is beginning to overwhelm all the established UK outlets.
That’s more insidious than lobbying, owning think-tanks, endowing departments at top-tier universities.

You’ve got to view this stuff the same way you read Pakistan-Tribune, Tasnim. Ahram, Middle East Monitor, ME Eye, etc.
        Position papers, posturing, wishful thinking.

          What could possibly go wrong?

  2. This is a Macron Flash Ball – the missiles with which the Macron Government maims Frances young (and not so young) patriots:

    • Hi Rita.

How will the level of violence and how scared Macron is and how loyal the police are. Macron is showing his lack of knowledge on how to use violence to break a resistance movement, if he had turned violent at the beginning the odds are that the Yellow Jacket movement would have been crushed. Since he waited a couple of months before the started it is unlikely any level of violence and brutality will break the movement. The gradual increase in violence lets the protesters get use to the violence and get angry about the violence. For once the lefts tactic of gradually increasing the level of violence in a fight is working against them instead of against the Western military forces.

  3. Iran urges EU to expedite setting up SPV ‘before it’s too late’ (mehrnews, jan 27, 2019)
    https://en.mehrnews.com/news/141922/Iran-urges-EU-to-expedite-setting-up-SPV-before-it-s-too-late

“In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) published on Sunday, Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, commented on the current situation of cooperation between Iran, the Europeans, Russia and China within the framework of Iran’s nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and said ‘it is unfortunate to say that lately the developments have not been very encouraging.’

He said Europe should take this as a message.

Salehi further expressed hope that “before it is too late, Europeans, in particular, should fulfill what they have promised beforehand; otherwise, I am afraid that the future developments will not be conductive neither for us nor for them or even for other participants of the JCPOA.”

He was referring to the EU’s promised trade mechanism known as Special-Purpose Vehicle (SPV), which is an alternative payment channel for Iran to continue trade transactions with the EU by circumventing the US sanctions.

There have been reports that the EU would set up the trade mechanism by next Monday, January 29.

Elsewhere in the interview, Salehi went on to say that Iran does not want to see the nuclear deal disintegrated and breached by any of the present members.

He said although the US has already withdrawn from the JCPOA – back in May 2018 – there are still other parties still committed to the agreement.

Salehi went on to reiterate that “Iran has been fulfilling its commitments under the deal and the 13 reports by the IAEA confirming the fact is a clear proof of this claim.”

“The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed this in its 13 consecutive reports, based on a robust verification system, proving that Iran is implementing its nuclear commitments. There is no credible peaceful alternative to the JCPOA,” the official added.

The top nuclear official noted that “Iran’s patience is wearing thin and it is time for the EU to take its strategic decision. “

“On the side of the Europeans, it’s been months since they have promised us to come up with the SPV scheme which unfortunately has not yet been materialized,’ Salehi said.

“I have heard in the recent news that hopefully by Monday they will probably announce the formation of the SPV,” he added.

“I hope that they will take this step because this is an encouragement and will help keep the trust that we worked so hard to build between the two sides; otherwise, we will be losing the trust and once the trust is lost everybody will be a loser in the game,” the nuclear chief stressed.

“So I say that this is a battle we should not lose,” he added.

Salehi went on to add, “we should win this battle and we can only win it together. Otherwise, it will become a battle already lost and certainly this will not be in the interest of the Europeans, specifically if one considers that they look at the JCPOA mainly from the perspective of security.””

“The Foreign Ministry of Iraq on Sunday condemned Turkish forces opening fire on civilians in the Kurdistan Region’s town of Sheladize and summoned Turkey’s envoy in Baghdad.

Hundreds of people in the northern town of Sheladize on Saturday protested Turkey’s ongoing bombardment of their villages after recent Turkish bombings left at least four civilians dead…”

  5. What we need now is a world-wide existential monetary crisis, before it’s too late.

If we are to believe some of what we hear, it is the desire of supranational bodies such as the IMF and the World Bank to replace the USD as the world reserve currency with a new crypto-currency. And to be clear, it is not only globally-identified entities that sublimate such sympathies, but sovereign central banks. If Sweden, for example, succeeds in eliminating cash, which it is on the road to doing, it will be easily connected to the next cashless society regardless of that country’s geographic location. You can join the globalist dots from here.

I recently read somewhere that world-wide sovereign debt was in the neighborhood of 350 trillion dollars. While this, to me, is a meaninglessly large number, it sure sounds big. Add to this the rehypothication of rehypothicated assets in the shadow banking industry and suddenly you’re probably talking real money.

Where does it all end? Clearly debt of such magnitude does not get repaid. There is either default via bankruptcy, or by false payment with devalued currencies in a massive inflationary scenario. If there is hyperinflation the bankers with be paid even faster with ever-more-useless fiat. Don’t think for a moment, however, that this will suffice. Intermediary lenders may accept such payment, but not lenders of last resort. These guys must have their pound of flesh.

For this reason I would think a controlled demolition is favoured over a chaotic resolution of debt. But what does this really mean?

The smart money understands that unless a debt is backed by a tangible asset, it is exposed to unacceptable risk. Banks don’t know what risks other banks have in terms of having liabilities connected to financial instruments of dubious collateral. This will create a toxic contageon of defaults. In preparation for the next financial crisis, the bail-in (confiscation) of depositors’ assets over a certain threshold has been legalized. However, this means that banks will be paid by fiat of diminishing worth or by devalued realestate. In other words the current monetary system does not provide for a complete and satisfactory extinguishing of debt. The giants of our planet understand this, and have been preparing for the reconciliation for years.

A few years ago George Soros cryptically referenced gold as the “mother of all bubbles”. This comment was lost to the msm.

In typical Soros fashion, however, his statement was intentionally abstracted. The extinguishing of such gargantuan debt will require that gold be permitted its fair process of price discovery. Its suppression must be removed for giants to be paid. Gold, in its position at the point of the inverted pyramid on which all debt is derived, must be revalued to the satisfaction of giants.

So, while a bubble suggests irrationality in the markets, the arithmetic of outstanding debt repayment says the price of gold in fiat can go to the moon and remain rational.

Giants will be satisfied because their positions will only be enhanced. A new two-tiered monetary system will be the only acceptable paradigm. A gold-linked money will be used for savings. A fiat system will be used for a daily medium of exchange. This is the coming state of monetary art. It’s called Freegold. It means gold is released from its current prison, shackled by the fearful guardians of fiat worldwide. Freegold could truly herald a new golden era for humanity.

Any paradigm short of this will allow for the continuation of deficit-financed wars, the proliferation of neo-Marxist movements by fiat financing, and unacceptable burdens on the productive class.

That’s why we are better off dealing with a resetting of the monetary system sooner rather than later. The western middle class is being drained of its wealth and vigour by the current Keynesian set up.

Why should we pay higher taxes just so our governments can pay for gender-neutral washrooms?

Enough is enough. It’s all about money.

    • If Sweden, for example, succeeds in eliminating cash, which it is on the road to doing, it will be easily connected to the next cashless society regardless of that country’s geographic location. You can join the globalist dots from here.

Without wishing to flog the deceased equine and all that … ‘Tain’t nothing on earth that’s going to connect them dots like the IoT (Internet of Things). All POS (Point of Sale) terminals—cash registers to us dinosaurs—will be LinkedIn, along with mom, the flag, Apple pie, plus Intel about every last Visa-carrying Yahoo surfing the Amazon basin.

That’s why we are better off dealing with a resetting of the monetary system sooner rather than later. The western middle class is being drained of its wealth and vigour by the current Keynesian set up.

Minor quibble: The “western middle class is being” EATEN ALIVE (not “drained”) by Leftist cannibals and Deep State apparatchiks. Namely, those who cannot connect the problem of tax consumers with taxpayers, save through redistribution of wealth.

Why should we pay higher taxes just so our governments can pay for gender-neutral washrooms?

We will pay for every donkey dog and pony show that the LGBTQXYZ&#@ Pronoun-Sensitive Cult of Victimhood™ can dream up … until we don’t.

Howzabout this? Let’s all stop electing moron politicians. Especially ones that squander government funds on, not just “gender-neutral washrooms”, but even those who waste the taxpayer’s dime meeting with some “save the gay humpback nuclear unicorns” snowflake community organizer who’ll grease their grubby little, uncalloused palms (or ballot boxes).

Enough is enough. It’s all about money.

For so long as humanity requires some sort of fungible and transportable wealth, money will continue to play a role. Carrying around precious metals and other scarce commodities (e.g., diamonds) will always pose much greater difficulties and risk of loss—however much more stable their value may be.

Please watch just one minute (00:03:30–00:04:30) of this clip. Barnhardt makes clear what constitutes wealth.
      (T = 00:20:03)

      • Yes, NR, you are right on all counts. My one example of the dog and pony show you refer to is brief for economy of words lest I drone on too long. So massive has become the body of unworthy beneficiaries of earned wealth, in fact, that I suspect the large-scale retraction of said money will give us a Mad Mad future. However, since this is not practical for our overlords, the fiat portion of the two-tiered approach will be used to keep a modicum of social order. Imagine the world pre-1913. People will simply have to work for a living.

        • Thank you, Johnnyu.

The most principle issues at stake are just that, principle and principles.

Principle, as in some viable form of firm, fixed wealth. And principles, with respect to the ethical earning, securing, and administration of those assets.

Long before most others, responsible gun owners learned that firearms have ZERO to do with violence. In the exact same way, money has ZERO to do with hyper-inflation, corruption or evil in general.

Like guns, like Capitalism, like money, each of these tools is very sensitive to bad actors. Volitional acts by tool users are what cause positive or negative outcomes, not the tools themselves.

While many negative events arise from poor impulse control (especially in lower IQ individuals), real malevolence is where tools attain their most destructive potential. As a direct corollary to this:

There is no inanimate object on earth that cannot be turned to the purposes of death.

This entire conundrum is reflected in the perfectibility of mankind. Such a thing cannot be attained through coercion. There are always those who would use equal or greater force to achieve unprincipled goals.

Human perfectibility—like principled leadership or responsible Free Market Capitalism—is only attainable on a voluntary basis. No amount of lawmaking can legislate morality. Just as how no legal, judicial or penal disincentive can dissuade a psychopath from attempting to harm others—be it physically or financially or both.

Be sure to watch the following clip past its turkey sandwich segment. This was The Simpsons in its riotous prime. More about that in another post.

    • Johnny, NR what is being ignored is the fact that the radical left (including most of the giants that Johnny talks about hate the Middle Class. Look at every nation the left has taken over and the first victims of socialism is always the Middle Class, that is where the majority of the money is and the engine that drives the economy. The planned inflation of the left has driven almost all of the Middle Class businesses out of business. Make that the inflation and the regulations, one friend of mine use to have a store that sold, comic, gaming material and used games and movies. He once told me that he had to spend more time on filling out forms then working in the store and that he had to lie to the government because telling the truth would get him shut down. Obama increased the regulations and fees to the point he couldn’t stay stay open, the big chains have people at the headquarters that do nothing but fill out the forms for each store the have. The individual can’t afford to hire someone to fill out the forms and they can’t spend all of their times filling out the forms.

As to an economic collapse which will call for a reboot of all of the worlds currencies the collapse will occur once the civil wars go kinetic. And yes there will be two classes of money, the precious metal backed and the fiat for daily use. Remember until the discovery of the Western Hemisphere it was rare for people to see any type of Gold money and copper was more common then silver. The quantity of Gold and Silver in North and South America changed that but thanks to the left we are about to return to the historical norm in money as will as in war.

So far we have managed to skate around the edge of the weak ice that is going to cause the collapse. We in the US and Canada are lucky since both nations are major producers of Gold and are in a better position to (at least semi) ride out the collapse. If, I repeat if our political leaders can keep their hands off the economy and let the market re-balance itself. Politicians keep their hands off the economy is probably an impossible dream, The Great Depression was caused by Hoover and FDR interfering in what would have been a short (less then a year) depression taking money from the people for the government and not letting the market correct itself. Obama and his actions turned a ordinary recession into the Great Recession, and based on what the Dems are saying they learned nothing from their failure. Keeping the left out of the economy is going to be as big a reason for the civil wars as anything else.

      • One thing we all ignored is the way the far left is trying to collapse our nations through unlimited immigration. The cost of this immigration/migration/invasion is what may cause the next economic collapse. The way things are going the future of most of Europe and South America is Venezuela and France combined with all sides bring out increasingly heavier armament. The French Girl Rita posted the interview with (very good job Rita) is lucky by this time next year it would be a Full Metal Jacket from a military rifle.

      • Johnny, NR what is being ignored is the fact that the radical left (including most of the giants that Johnny talks about) hate the Middle Class. Look at every nation the left has taken over and the first victims of socialism is always the Middle Class, that is where the majority of the money is and the engine that drives the economy.

It’s very important to distinguish between the “radical left” and those seemingly über-Progressive Titans of Tech™ that conveniently march alongside them beneath their virtue signalling, sustainably hand-painted and recyclable Watermelon* banner.

        * Green on the outside, Red on the inside.

While the former insists that people should “think global, act local”, the latter most certainly thinks global and acts global. There is a yuge difference, even if Leftists too-successfully delude themselves otherwise.

NOTE: — A prime example of this dichotomy lies in how PoMos secretly worship monarchies even as their ToTs (Titans of Tech) arrogate themselves royal perquisites, right down to intermarriage of elite bloodlines. —

Blinded by their utopian fantasies (all cloaked in a trendy, undyed, vegetarian-fed, free range ovine pelt), the harsh mechanics and brutal realities of World Government elude roseate bespetacled PoMos. Not so, their presumptive overlords.

Even as the underclass erects barrier after vote-whored legal barrier to urban redevelopment so, too, is the upper crust “pulling up the ladders” after themselves in panicked fear of Middle Class arrivistes.

Flanked by hostile upper and lower tiers, the Middle Class is caught twixt a socioeconomic Scylla and Charybdis. Feared by the poor for their ability to gentrify tenements, they are equally loathed by the rich for whatever vestiges of upward hard-won mobility they retain in this (what rapidly is becoming a Potemkin) meritocracy.

From: Why Elites FailThey’re hyper-educated, ambitious and well rewarded. So why are our elites so incompetent?

But this ideal, appealing as it may be, runs up against the reality of what I’ll call the Iron Law of Meritocracy. The Iron Law of Meritocracy states that eventually the inequality produced by a meritocratic system will grow large enough to subvert the mechanisms of mobility. Unequal outcomes make equal opportunity impossible. The Principle of Difference will come to overwhelm the Principle of Mobility. Those who are able to climb up the ladder will find ways to pull it up after them, or to selectively lower it down to allow their friends, allies and kin to scramble up. In other words: “Who says meritocracy says oligarchy.

The preceding facile argument about supposed “inequality produced by a meritocratic system” neglects, as so many of all stripes fail at, observing that “inequality” is not intrinsic to a meritocracy. Unequalness is a natural state that cannot be overcome, even through scrupulously equitable application of the law.

While traditional “equality in the eyes of the law” is a laudable judicial goal, it in no way can counteract the insurmountable fact that all men are not created equal—just as a meritocracy can not be blamed for guilelessly highlighting that same unavoidable inequality.

Any inequality produced by a genuinely meritocratic system is a byproduct of discrepancies in ability, motivation, and inclination to innovate.

So far we have managed to skate around the edge of the weak ice that is going to cause the collapse.

As an unexpectedly succinct Ralph Waldo Emerson once said:

When skating over thin ice, our safety lies in our speed.

While this attitude is an understandable result of a culture that created the SR-71 Blackbird, hastening through high risk learning opportunities from fear of unfamiliar or complex circumstances enables the deliquescence of desirably solid standards.

Keeping the left out of the economy is going to be as big a reason for the civil wars as anything else.

As Old Bill would say, “Therein lies the rub”. The all-time favorite Leftist approach to solving a problem is by throwing money at it (and, with eyes wide shut, hoping it will go away).

How to keep those sticky pie-smeared Socialist fingers out of the economic cookie jar isn’t just problematic, it’s well-nigh impossible.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the people discover they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy–to be followed by a dictatorship.
        ? Alexander Fraser Tytler Woodhouselee

        • You are right, the Founding Fathers were well versed in history and were aware of the Ancient Greek’s idea that Monarchy leads to Democracy which leads to Dictatorship, which leads to Monarchy, …

The Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution in an attempt to break this cycle, so far they have semi succeeded. The left has been working since the late 1890s to subvert the US Constitution and institute the Dictatorship that will lead to a Monarchy of the lefts leaders families. Personally I doubt if the leftist leaders will survive the coming chaos and if, I repeat if we end up with a strong man leader that turns into a Dictator it will be someone from the right who is reluctant to take the job. The technocrats will be part of the people who will become the new nobility. Although I doubt if they will call themselves nobles or use the titles we are use to reading about.

I have thought about the type of government we will have after the coming civil war and realize that while we still have a better the even chance of restoring the Constitution we may end up with some type of Constitutional Monarchy/Dictatorship. I hope not but given the lack of true education among the younger generations it will be hard to get them to rally around a Constitution they know very little about and behind the rights that limit them as much as the liberate them.

I know I am sounding more pessimistic then I normally do but I am watching what is being done to the rule of law and know that while we all want the political bosses of the Rogue Deep State agents in the FBI to go to jail there is really a small chance of that happening. If they don’t go to jail the rule of law is dead and it will be very hard to re-establish the idea that everyone is equal under the law as the rule we all live by. It can be done by the longer the chaos lasts the longer it will take to re-establish a civilization with the rule of law. I am pretty sure that we will maintain our freedom but we may end up with a multi-tiered judicial system with differing rights according to your educational level and your economic level.

          • I know I am sounding more pessimistic then I normally do…

Yep, but that’s how I usually sound.
I’d say Dictatorship is probable for the all reasons you give.

Plus: We have legalized INFANTICIDE. (If we – collectively – tolerate it, we’re complicit.)
==> We’re no longer fit for our Constitution. As Potus-2 always says:

“Our Constitution is only fit for a moral and religious people. It is wholly unsuited to the governance of any other kind.”

If a dictatorship isn’t communist, it’ll be tolerable till we reboot. Or we’ll hive off and sally forth.

Our genetic material is too precious to throw away for scrap of territory.[*] Our strong and healthy kin can come back at a time of their choosing.

[*]The Holy Land is kind of an exception. Because there are other forces there to intercede on our behalf. I think. I pray.

  6. Unpublished Swedish Report Reveals Migrant Costs Far Higher than Govt Claims (breitbart, Jan 27, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/01/27/unpublished-swedish-report-reveals-migrant-costs-far-higher-than-govt-claims/

“A leaked unpublished document from Sweden’s Justice Ministry has revealed that the costs of mass migration are far higher than figures currently expressed by the government.

The document comes after the new coalition government agreed to relax the rules for chain migration, or “family reunification”, which will likely lead to a larger influx of migrants than previously estimated.

Following the announcement of the policy, the Swedish Migration Board sent the report to the Justice Ministry which calculated the added costs in the millions. Despite the reports, Swedish Social Democrat Justice Minister Morgan Johansson has referred to prior, much less costly, figures throughout the week, Expressen reports.

The previous report, compiled in Septemeber of last year, estimated that chain migration would cost Swedish taxpayers 910 million Swedish kronor (£76.15 million) from 2019 to 2021. The new estimate sees that number increase to 1.365 billion Swedish kronor (£114.2 million) over the same period.

Chain migration has been one of the driving forces of immigration, along with new asylum claims, over the last year, with both accounting for a large section of the total residency permits granted in 2018 according to figures from the Migration Board published earlier this month.

Chain migration is also being seen in other countries like Germany, with the country granting 230,000 family reunion visas from January 2015 until June of 2017. Some estimates suggest another 390,000 Syrians could also be eligible for the programme.

According to Belgian senator Alain Destexhe, chain migration is the biggest challenge facing Europe with respect to immigration.

In a recent interview with French newspaper Le Figaro, he said: “A large part of the immigrant population is not integrated, neither economically (it depends strongly on the social system), nor culturally, which is even more serious: they live according to value systems that are sometimes incompatible with our laws, our history, and our traditions.”

  7. Italy’s Salvini Preparing Legal Action Against Migrant Ferry NGOs (breitbart, Jan 27, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/01/27/italys-salvini-preparing-legal-action-against-migrant-ferry-ngos/

“Italy’s interior minister Matteo Salvini said Sunday he was gathering legal evidence against the crew of a Dutch-flagged migrant ferry as calls grow for 47 migrants to be allowed to land.

“We have concrete elements to declare that the captain and crew of the Sea Watch 3 have put the lives of those on board at risk by disobeying precise directions days ago to disembark them in the nearest port, not Italy!” Salvini said.

“The evidence will be handed to the judicial authorities,” he said, accusing captain and crew of “a crime and a clear desire to use these immigrants in a political battle”.

Salvini has refused to open the ports to the mainly sub-Saharan African migrants picked up in the Mediterranean over a week ago, saying the ship had had a chance to make port as it sailed through Libyan, Tunisian, and Maltese waters.

“The interior minister is gathering elements to evaluate whether to press charges against the entire Sea Watch crew for favouring illegal immigration,” the ministry said.

Members of parliament who had been refused permission by the ministry to board the Sea Watch 3 made their own way onto the vessel which has taken shelter from bad weather off the coast of Sicily.

“We will verify the situation on board and we continue to ask that those shipwrecked and the crew be allowed to disembark in line with international law,” left-wing member of parliament Nicola Fratoianni said.

Rights group Mediterranea said the members of parliament would be “checking the psychological and physical state” of the migrants, as well as gathering testimony of the violence they suffered in Libya.

Save the Children and other aid agencies have appealed to Italy to allow at least the 13 minors on board to land.

Salvini has insisted the Netherlands or Germany take responsibility for the vessel, which is run by the German NGO Sea Watch.

Dutch Migration Minister Mark Harbers said Saturday his country “was not obligated” to find a solution, because the Sea Watch 3 had acted “of its own initiative”.

Migrants collected by ships have frequently been left in limbo since Italy’s anti-immigration government began turning them away last summer.”

“Egypt says its air force has killed several militants, including two local commanders, in the restive northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.

The military said Sunday that the airstrike targeted a militant “outpost,” without providing further details.

The army has been battling a long-running insurgency in the northern Sinai that is now led by an Islamic State affiliate. The fighting intensified after the military overthrew an elected but divisive Islamist president in 2013.

Authorities heavily restrict access to the northern Sinai, making it difficult to verify claims related to the fighting.

IS has carried out a number of large-scale attacks in recent years, mainly targeting security forces and Egypt’s Christian minority.”

  9. Pressure mounts on Venezuela’s Maduro as EU demands new elections

CARACAS, Venezuela – President Nicolás Maduro faced increasing international pressure on Saturday, as European governments threatened to recognize his chief opponent as Venezuela’s leader unless a plan for new elections is announced within eight days.

The statements from Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Britain came as U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pressed the United Nations to throw its support behind Juan Guaidó, the leader of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, who declared himself president on Wednesday.

  10. U.S. calls on world to ‘pick a side’ on Venezuela; Europeans set to recognize Guaido

UNITED NATIONS/CARACAS, Jan 26 (Reuters) – The United States on Saturday called on the world to “pick a side” on Venezuela and urged countries to financially disconnect from Nicolas Maduro’s government, while European powers signaled they were set to follow Washington in recognizing Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s rightful leader.

In heated back-and-forth exchanges at a United Nations Security Council meeting, the opposing camp led by Venezuela and Russia, which has invested heavily in Venezuela’s oil industry, accused Washington of attempting a coup, and lambasted Europeans’ demand that elections be called within eight days.

Guaido, who took the helm of the National Assembly on Jan. 5, proclaimed himself interim president on Wednesday. The United States, Canada and a string of Latin American countries recognized the young leader in quick succession. Maduro, who has led the oil-rich nation since 2013 and has the support of the armed forces, has refused to stand down.

But on Saturday Guaido, 35, gained support from a key military official. Venezuela’s defense attache to Washington, Colonel Jose Luis Silva, told Reuters that he has broken with the Maduro government and recognized Guaido as interim president.

  11. US calls to ‘stand with freedom’ in Venezuela as EU gives ultimatum

United Nations (United States) (AFP) – The United States pressed all nations Saturday to “stand with the forces of freedom” in Venezuela, encouraged by a tougher European line as Russia stood in the minority in backing embattled leader Nicolas Maduro.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made a forceful case at a special session of the United Nations Security Council, where he described Maduro as part of an “illegitimate mafia state” responsible for Venezuela’s economic collapse.

With mounting protests over Venezuela’s crisis in which more than two million have fled shortages of basic food and medicine, Pompeo asked all nations to follow the US in recognizing opposition leader Juan Guaido as the interim president.

“Now it is time for every other nation to pick a side. No more delays, no more games. Either you stand with the forces of freedom, or you’re in league with Maduro and his mayhem,” Pompeo said.

  12. Migrant Caravan Swells to 12,000 at Mexico’s Southern Border

The ranks of a new Central American migrant caravan reportedly grew in size to more than 12,000 as of Friday. The caravan is now heading to Mexico’s southern border.

Mexican immigration officials in the city of Ciudad Hidalgo, which borders Guatemala, are establishing procedures to expedite the process in which to approve one-year humanitarian visas for members of the Central American migrant caravan who are arriving daily. The one-year humanitarian visas, promised by Mexico’s new President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is a newly adopted policy which allows migrants to legally travel and work during their stay in Mexico.

The new policy of handing out humanitarian visas began on January 17 in response to the new caravan of primarily Honduran migrants who left their home country and headed towards the Mexican border on January 15. Officials originally estimated the caravan’s size at about 2,000. Mexico now claims the caravan’s population swelled to over 12,000 migrants, according to local media and Breitbart Texas sources.

  13. Trump ordered 15,000 new border and immigration officers — but got thousands of vacancies instead

Two years after President Trump signed orders to hire 15,000 new border agents and immigration officers, the administration has spent tens of millions of dollars in the effort — but has thousands more vacancies than when it began.

In a sign of the difficulties, Customs and Border Protection allocated $60.7 million to Accenture Federal Services, a management consulting firm, as part of a $297-million contract to recruit, vet and hire 7,500 border officers over five years, but the company has produced only 33 new hires so far.

The president’s promised hiring surge steadily lost ground even as he publicly hammered away at the need for stiffer border security, warned of a looming migrant invasion and shut down parts of the government for five weeks over his demands for $5.7 billion from Congress for a border wall.

The Border Patrol gained a total of 120 agents in 2018, the first net gain in five years.

Liberal values in Europe face a challenge “not seen since the 1930s”, leading intellectuals from 21 countries have said, as the UK lurches towards Brexit and nationalists look set to make sweeping gains in EU parliamentary elections.

The group of 30 writers, historians and Nobel laureates declared in a manifesto published in several newspapers, including the Guardian, that Europe as an idea was “coming apart before our eyes”.

“We must now will Europe or perish beneath the waves of populism,” the document reads. “We must rediscover political voluntarism or accept that resentment, hatred and their cortege of sad passions will surround and submerge us.”

PARIS (AP) — French police are investigating how a prominent yellow vest protester suffered a dramatic eye injury in Paris, as well as other protest-related injuries.

Violence by protesters and the sometimes-aggressive police response have prompted a national debate since the anti-government movement kicked off two months ago.

A counter-demonstration is planned Sunday in Paris by groups calling themselves the “red scarves” and “blue vests” to protest the violence.

The number of Central American migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. continues to grow as Mexico fast-tracks humanitarian visas.

Mexican migration officials say, as of Friday, they’ve received more than 10,000 visa applications for adults, and nearly 2,400 for minors.

Mexico is offering one-year visas to migrants which include the right to work in Mexico and travel the country freely. So far, about 2,200 visas have been granted.

LONDON (Reuters) – Britain has the option of using martial law to quell civil disorder that might ensue under a no-deal Brexit, but that is not the focus of the government’s attention, Health Minister Matt Hancock said on Sunday.

The Sunday Times cited unnamed officials as saying the government had been examining the powers at its disposal if a no-deal Brexit resulted in civil disobedience, including martial law, curfews, and the use of the army to quell rioting.

Asked by the BBC’s Andrew Marr, if the government was considering the possibility of martial law, Hancock said “Not specifically, no.”

  18. Stone indictment reminds us FBI/DOJ have known since 2016 that there was no collusion
    By J.E. Dyer January 27, 2019

Andrew McCarthy has an excellent article at National Review this weekend. It discusses how the Roger Stone indictment clarifies what the Mueller investigation has known for months: that the evidence in the Russia probe shows the opposite of the probe’s premise. It shows that the Trump campaign organization did not have prior, complicit knowledge of what Russia may have been doing to “meddle” with the 2016 election.

In the course of laying out his case, McCarthy addresses an eye-catching passage in the Stone indictment (which can be read in full here). McCarthy alludes to the same thing that caught my attention, in paragraph 12 on page 4. The active voice in which background information for the charges against Stone is framed switches to a passive voice – just for this one element of the case – and the indictment is coy about the character(s) involved in the activity.

McCarthy puts it this way (emphases original):

    • CNN – Ex-DNC chief: Stone weaponized info stolen by Putin

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, says the allegation that a top campaign aide for President Trump was directed to contact Roger Stone to get information about the DNC’s hacked emails shows that the campaign was “infected with contact with Russia.”

+ comments on the YT page

      • I don’t see how she can be believed in anything she says, she is the one that hired the Pakistani family to be IT people at her office in DC. They then stole a lot of info and gave it to Pakistani intel, and we all know that Pakistani intel supports the radical Sunni terrorists.

    • Be sure and read the article, she goes into great detail about how the information in the indictment could only have come from either a spy on the Trump team, or electronic surveillance of the Trump team.

She also ask the two most important quesitons about the Mueller investigation, 1) the next to the most important question, Why after all this time and any lack of evidence of Trump working with the Russians is the investigation still going on. 2) The most important question, Why was the investigation started in the first place. We need answers to these questions and we need them ASAP, with out answers we are left with the conclusion that the investigation was started by members of the Obama administration who wanted to ensure that Hillary was elected and were willing to break every law on the books to achieve this goal. We are also left with the conclusion that the investigation has continued because of one of two (possibly both) reason.

Question 1) The investigation is continuing because the Deep State is trying to protect Obama, he sent email to Hillary on her illegal server. Also someone very high up in the Obama administration ordered the spying on the Trump campaign (I will bet that the other people trying for the Republican nomination were spied on also), if this wasn’t Obama (some statements in the text messages say it probably was) it was someone who reported directly to him. 2) The FBI files that the Clintons had transferred to private computers while Bill was President are being used to blackmail members of the Deep State.

Question 2) Why was the investigation started in the first place? The obvious answer to this is that the people who ordered the original spying ordered it to cover up as much of the crimes as possible. The Investigators can also destroy as much evidence implicating people in the Obama White House as possible.

The possible answers to both questions say we are a Third World country and the actions of the Mueller investigators say that we now have a Third World justice system. The big questions are how far down the line has the corruption spread and how many Police and Sheriffs departments have started using the Third World tactics that Mueller is using? The answer to the last question will tell us how hard rebuilding the rule of law will take.

      • Go back in time. If the Clintons and the Obamas had a deal that allowed Mrs Clinton to defer her presidential. If we knew the details of what transpired, more would makes sense now.

        • That is a good possibility, it is also something would won’t be able to discover any evidence about for many decades.

  19. Strange bedfellows: George Soros slams China, to the right of trump on Huawei, ZTE
By Daily Caller News Foundation January 27, 2019

President Donald Trump has found a new, unlikely ally in his battle against China: billionaire George Soros, a liberal financier who conservatives often criticize as antagonistic to traditional values.

Soros offered a lengthy and robust criticism of the communist country during a private dinner Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The notoriously anti-Trump philanthropist even took the U.S. president to task for not doubling down on his battles against China.

“China isn’t the only authoritarian regime in the world, but it’s undoubtedly the wealthiest, strongest and most developed in machine learning and artificial intelligence,” Soros said. “This makes [Chinese President] Xi Jinping the most dangerous opponent of those who believe in the concept of open society.”

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/01/27/strange-bedfellows-george-soros-slams-china-to-the-right-of-trump-on-huawei-zte/

    • Here are two things to remember about Soros and China, 1) when Soros broke the Bank of England the resulting economic crash cost the Chinese a lot of money, some of which ended up in a Soros bank account. 1) China and Russia are allies but not friends and Soros started out (according to rumors) as a KGB agent of influence. If he was and possibly still is a Russian asset he would want to prevent China from growing too strong.

  20. Dems voted down three separate GOP efforts to pay federal workers during shutdown
By Rusty Weiss January 27, 2019

During the shutdown, Republican efforts to force a vote on a bill that would pay federal workers their first paychecks of 2019 were shot down by Democrats. Votes on this motion took place on Jan. 17, 23, and 24. Each time it was defeated rather handily by the party that postured continuously during the shutdown on behalf of the 800,000 out-of-work federal employees.

Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw noted that the initial role call received very little fanfare and opined that the Democrats “priority is not paying workers or opening gov’t … It is opposing Trump.”

With each vote, however, more Democrats joined Republicans in the effort to pay government employees. Six Democrats voted in the affirmative initially, while ten did so on the second vote, and thirteen joined in a bipartisan effort on Thursday.

A gilets jaunes (yellow vests) demonstrator injured in the eye at a demonstration in Paris will be disabled for life, his lawyer has said.

Jérôme Rodrigues, a high-profile member of the protest movement, claims he was struck by a “flash-ball”, a launcher used by French riot police to fire large rubber pellets. They have been blamed for dozens of injuries, some serious, including the loss of an eye.

Investigators are looking into the incident after police reportedly insisted Rodrigues’s injuries were caused by a crowd-control grenade that exploded near him, a version of events his lawyer “categorically” denied.

  24. Former San Francisco mayor and California State Assembly speaker Willie Brown confirmed Saturday that he had dated Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris and appointed her to two state jobs — and dismissed the fuss.
As Breitbart News reported earlier this month, “Kamala Harris’s career received a boost from a patronage job in dubious circumstances.” In particular:

In 1994, then-outgoing Speaker of the California State Assembly Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) appointed Harris to a state board with a $72,000 salary. The Los Angeles Times reported: “Harris, a former deputy district attorney in Alameda County, was described by several people at the Capitol as Brown’s girlfriend.” (Brown was married but separated.)

The problem was not that Brown was dating Harris, but the apparent nepotism involved in her appointment.

Brown published a short article in the San Francisco Chronicle this weekend, “Sure, I dated Kamala Harris. So what?” In the article, he acknowledged the facts but not the reasons for the controversy:

Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago. Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was Assembly speaker.

And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco. I have also helped the careers of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and a host of other politicians.

Brown did not — as far as is known — have intimate relationships with any of the other politicians he named.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials report the increase in the number of large group border crossings led to the apprehension of nearly 9,000 in fiscal year 2019 to date.

CBP officials reported on Thursday that 8,797 migrants, mostly families and minors from Guatemala, crossed the border in 53 large groups since October 1, 2o18. CBP defines a large group as more than 100 migrants. Of that number, 7,757 are Family Unit Aliens (FMUA) and Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) from Guatemala.

The report states that 84.6 percent of the large groups are FMUA migrants, while 11.5 percent are UACs. Nearly all (99.6 percent) of the large group migrant crossings came from the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, officials stated.

  28. Rethinking Israel’s Syria Campaign

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Moscow’s public demand that Israel stop its attacks in Syria places Israel’s longstanding air campaign at a critical juncture despite PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s avowed determination to sustain it for as long as necessary.

Three primary goals underlie Israel’s longstanding air campaign in Syria, dubbed the “Campaign Between Wars”: 1) preventing the buildup of a terrorist front on the Golan Heights; 2) preventing Tehran’s military entrenchment in Syria; and 3) preventing the acquisition of long-range precision missiles/rockets by Hezbollah and other Iranian-propped militias. In a 2015 doctrinal pamphlet entitled “The IDF’s Strategy,” then-Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot defined the Campaign Between Wars as designed to “weaken negative factors and achieve deterrence in order to keep the next war away.”

At present, there is broad consensus in Israel regarding the essential vitality of the above three goals. Yet the changing strategic circumstances in Syria have given rise to concerns that not only does the continuation of the campaign in its present form not forestall the danger of war, but it actually increases its likelihood due to the possibility of an uncontrolled escalation.

  29. Democrats Says Brett Kavanaugh’s “Impeachment” is On the Table

For the last two years, Democrats have bemoaned our hotly-divided nation, but now that they have a little bit of power in Congress, they are going to blast those divisions wide open. Few events in recent memory have so sharply pitted Americans against each other like the shameful confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Thankfully, he got through to the court despite one of the most bitter, reckless, fact-free smear jobs we’ve ever seen in Washington. The wise thing, right now, would be to put that disgusting episode as far in the rearview mirror as we possibly can. You may love Kavanaugh or you may hate him, but the fact remains that he’s on the court. It’s done. Live with it.

But Democrats aren’t willing to do that. No, they’re talking about impeaching him.

  30. New Year, Same Old Turkey

Democratic anomaly became the new Turkish normal several years ago. The anomaly, sometimes, offers entertaining moments, too. Take, for instance, Parliament Speaker Binali Y?ld?r?m, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an’s most important political confidant (and former prime minister), who became the joke of the day when he declared: “Animals, too, are living beings”. Someone teased him on social media: “He is right. And I am adding: Plants, too, are living beings.” A few days later Y?ld?r?m, under fire from the opposition because he refuses to resign as parliament speaker although he would run for mayor of Istanbul in nationwide local elections on March 31 (they cite the constitution which bans the impartial parliament speaker from engaging in any political activity), amused a whole nation when he said: “Elections are not political activity”. Not all Turkish anomalies are as entertaining as this one.

What most Turks thought was a joke in the past few years now appears to be bitter reality. The joke goes: One day a political prisoner asks his guard if he could borrow from the prison library a certain work of fiction written by a certain author. The guard answers: We don’t have that book in our library. But if you want, I can bring you its author. He is here.”

A journalist recently uncovered the true story behind what millions of Turks mistakenly thought was just a joke. An academic, Mehmet Altan, detained on charges of “giving subliminal messages for a coup,” asked a guard if he could borrow a book written by his brother, Ahmet. “We don’t have that book,” said the guard, “but the author is here.”

  31. Trump: In Third Year with Three Charges

    by Amir Taheri

Theoretically, we have another year before the next American presidential campaign gets underway. And yet those who follow US policies more closely know that the 2020 presidential campaign has already started. In a sense, at least as far as the two main political parties are concerned, the campaign started the day Donald Trump took the oath of office.

In his first two years in office, Trump has attended at least 30 rallies across the United States that could best be described as campaign sorties. Add to that more than two dozen media interviews, not to mention thousands of tweets designed to create the image of a successful president running for a second term. For their part, Trump’s Democrat rivals have campaigned against him in a guerrilla-style, hoping to kill his hope of a second term with a thousand cuts.

Unable or unwilling to confront his policies or lack thereof, Democrats have focused their strategy on destroying the persona that Trump has tried to forge for himself. They have done this with three charges.

The first is incompetence. Two years after entering the White House Trump has not yet succeeded in filling some 34 percent of the positions in his administration. In the same period, he has lost almost all the top figures of his initial administration, including a handful of prestigious generals who gave his presidency the gravitas many claimed it lacked.

  32. EGYPT – CAIRO – France’s Macron dismisses attacks by Italy’s Salvini, Di Maio

CAIRO (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron dismissed as insignificant the recent verbal attacks by Italy’s two deputy prime ministers, saying his only counterpart was Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

Matteo Salvini of the right-wing League and Luigi Di Maio of the populist, anti-establishment 5-Star movement, have sought to rile Macron on a host of inflammatory issues.

“I won’t answer, that’s what they’re waiting for. So good luck to them, enjoy the agitation, enjoy the ride, as far as I’m concerned, I speak to President Conte,” Macron told reporters on on Sunday the sidelines of a trip to Egypt.

Conte sought to ease an increasingly harsh war of words between Rome and Paris earlier this week by saying that relations between Italy and France remained strong.

Di Maio accused Paris of creating poverty in Africa while Salvini accused France of doing nothing to bring peace to Libya.

Asked about Salvini and Di Maio’s remarks, Macron said: “All of this has frankly no importance.”

“Italy is a great people, the Italian people is our friend, and deserves leaders worthy of its history,” Macron added.

  34. US National Security Adviser John Bolton has warned Venezuela that any threats against American diplomats or opposition leader Juan Guaidó will be met with “a significant response”.

Mr Bolton tweeted on Sunday that any such “intimidation” would be “a grave assault on the rule of law”.

His warning comes days after the US and more than 20 other countries recognised Mr Guaidó as interim president.

They accuse President Nicolás Maduro of rigging last year’s election.

President Maduro was sworn in for a second term earlier this month after an election marred by an opposition boycott and allegations of vote-rigging, triggering large protests.

  35. (AFP) — Italy’s interior minister Matteo Salvini said Sunday he was gathering legal evidence against the crew of a Dutch-flagged migrant ferry as calls grow for 47 migrants to be allowed to land.

The President is correct. An Internet sleuth uncovered many lies in Lisa Page’s testimony just recently released.

  38. Hmm: F-35 to get missile defense mission
Bill Gertz, WFB (TWT) January 26, 2019

[Ed. – Will certainly have to watch to see how this one shakes out. The F-35 has plenty of issues already. Not sure adding an exotic new mission is the highest-payoff course here. Somehow, the performance art with which NATO ally Turkey welcomed the F-35 last year seems especially appropriate for the feature illustration.]

Inside the Ring: F-35 to Get Missile Defense Mission

The Pentagon’s new missile defense strategy unveiled last week reveals plans to deploy an advanced anti-missile interceptor on the new F-35 jet that can be used to shoot down intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The new SM-3 Block IIA interceptor, originally intended for use from Aegis missile defense ships, will be used as a backup for the current 44 Ground-Based Interceptors (GBIs) now deployed in Alaska and California. Those interceptors, along with sensors around the world and in space, can counter North Korean long-range missiles and expected Iranian ICBMs, as well some Chinese or Russian missiles in the event of a major war.

The new interceptor “has the potential to provide an important ‘underlay’ to existing GBIs for added protection against ICBM threats to the homeland,” the Missile Defense Review states.

  39. U.S. immigration courts have hit a new crisis point, with nearly half of illegal immigrants roaming in the country failing to show up for legal hearings, resulting in a massive number of deportation orders, according to an analysis of court records.

The court system said that in 2017, 43 percent of aliens freed pending hearings disappeared into the country and never showed up for scheduled follow-up hearings. In pure numbers, that means 41,302 aliens out of 95,342 never showed up for their court hearings.

Among those under 18 allowed into the country, 49 percent failed to show up.

It has been worse, with court skipouts reaching 59 percent in 2005 and 2006.

“From 1996 through 2017, 37 percent of all aliens free pending trial disappeared. From the 2,680,598 foreign nationals that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released on their own recognizance, 1,320,000, received deportation orders, 75 percent of them (993,593) for failure to appear. Only 25 percent of this group — some 324,402 people altogether — actually tried their cases,” said the analysis titled “Skipping Court” from the Center for Immigration Studies.

Failing to show up for court hearings is now the number one reason for deportation orders, according to the CIS analysis.

  40. Police: Store owner who shot would-be robber ‘nothing short of a hero’

CINCINNATI — A Cincinnati police captain said a would-be robber is dead because a 63-year-old convenience store owner protected herself.

“A 48-year-old individual comes inside, points a gun to her head, demands money,” said Capt. Paul Broxterman.

Police responded to the Glenway Pony Keg on Glenway Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found James Douglas, 48, had been fatally shot. Broxterman said the man was trying to rob the West Price Hill store, but the owner put up a fight — shooting and killing Douglas.

  41. California-style elections are coming to your state
Ellen Swensen, PJM January 26, 2019

Get Ready: California-Style Elections Are Coming to Your State

If you thought the 2018 elections in California were a mess, you were right. Dangerous new election laws and lax practices contributed to that mess, and now they want the rest of the nation to suffer the way Californians do.

First, the mess. Election Integrity Project, California (EIPCa), a group of concerned citizens in California, has been documenting problems in the state’s election system for years. We have done the hard, messy work on the ground to catalog the problems.

California election officials and legislators have turned our elections into a free-for-all, with few safeguards, all in the name of “voter access.”

Recent initiatives include “top two” primary elections, automatic voter registration, allowing non-citizens to vote in local elections, allowing mail ballots to arrive after Election Day, rejecting voter ID, removing restrictions on who can handle and return mail ballots (aka ballot “harvesting”), same-day registration and voting, allowing voters to “cure” their mail ballot signature mismatches via the honor system and, in 2020, providing all registrants with mail ballots.
