Germany: Turkish speaking man kicks 26-year-old’s teeth out on platform+++
The police are looking for a man who brutally kicked the head of a 26-year-old man while he was getting off the tram line 4 at Wiener Square in Cologne. The crime occurred on Thursday at 8:14 a.m.. Rescue workers brought the 26-year-old man to a hospital with bruises and broken teeth. After initial investigations, the unknown assailant suddenly knocked the 26-year-old man down from the side and kicked him in the face on the platform. The 26-year-old briefly lost consciousness as a result. Witnesses stopped the attacker from stepping on the man lying on the ground, while the aggressor threatened him in Turkish. The victim from Cologne describes the suspect as a tall, light-skinned man of about 1.75 to 1.8 metres in height with a massive body (about 90 kilograms) and black/brown hair. He is said to have worn a black jacket with hood.

“Populist Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has announced that law enforcement will be conducting an investigation into the Sea Watch migrant transport NGO whose vessel is moored off the coast of Syracuse with 47 migrants on board.
The Italian authorities are said to be investigating whether or not the German-based NGO vessel Sea Watch-3 has been complying with international regulations while it remains unable to access Italian ports, Il Giornale reports.
“Law enforcement is underway to look at the correct or incorrect behaviour of this NGO which seeks to impose its own legislation on a country like Italy, which instead has rules that must be respected,” Salvini said.
The investigators are said to be there in order to determine the nature of the operation, which took place in the search and rescue zone (SAR) off the coast of Libya.
Despite repeated requests from the NGO (non-governmental organisation), Salvini has remained firm on his policy of not allowing migrant transport vessels to dock in Italian ports.
Instead, the Italian Foreign Ministry wrote a letter to the Dutch government, as the Sea Watch-3 flies under the Dutch flag, and requested that it take the 47 migrants instead.
The letter also requested that the Dutch government hand over information on the NGO’s background, “with particular reference to compliance with the legislation of the flag state and its organisation and activities,” along with any information on “related vessels and crew.”
The move is not the first time Italy has contacted the countries under whose flag an NGO vessel operates. Last year, Italy contacted the British government as a migrant vessel had been using the flag of Gibraltar for migrant transport operations. Shortly after the Italian request, the flag was stripped from the vessel.
Deputy prime minister and leader of the Five Star Movement Luigi Di Maio has also requested a meeting with the Dutch ambassador as soon as possible to seek a Dutch answer to the Foreign Ministry’s letter.

“Muslims in the southern Philippines overwhelmingly approved in a referendum the creation of a new autonomous region in hopes of ending nearly half a century of unrest, election officials said.
The Commission on Elections announced late Friday that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is deemed ratified following a referendum on Monday. It says 1.5 million people voted in favor.
Bangsamoro replaces an existing poverty-wracked autonomous region with a larger, better-funded and more powerful entity.
It is the result of a tumultuous peace effort by the government in Manila and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the main Muslim rebel group, to seal a deal that was signed in 2014 but languished in the Philippine Congress until it was finally approved last year. Bloodshed including the siege of Marawi city by Islamic State-linked militants and other bombings and attacks in the south threatened to derail it.
Commissioner Susana Anayatin of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission said that the ratification of the autonomy law “marks the beginning of a new government and another journey toward peace.”
Under the deal, the rebels gave up their goal of an independent state in the majority Christian Philippines in exchange for broad autonomy, although they originally wanted a federal unit with more powers. Their 30,000 to 40,000 fighters are to be demobilized. A regional parliament will be in charge of day-to-day affairs.
Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, chairman of the Moro rebels, has appealed to the international community to contribute to a trust fund to be used to finance the insurgents’ transition from decades of waging one of Asia’s longest rebellions.
Western governments have welcomed the autonomy pact. They worry that small numbers of IS-linked militants from the Middle East and Southeast Asia could forge an alliance with Filipino insurgents and turn the south into a breeding ground for extremists.
Not all Muslim-dominated areas voted in favor of the new autonomy. Sulu province, the base of a rival rebel faction, rejected it.

The November satellite images show what appear to be structures big enough to build and fuel ballistic missiles. An apparent rocket-engine test stand can be seen in a corner of the base — the type on which a rocket is positioned on its side and test-fired in place. Such testing is key for countries attempting to manufacture working missiles, experts say.
Michael Elleman, the senior fellow for missile defense at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Washington, also reviewed the satellite photos and said they appear to show a ballistic missile program.

A group of transparency advocates released a massive number of hacked and leaked Russian documents on Friday in what is being viewed as retaliation against Russia’s sharing of hacked Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails to influence the 2016 presidential campaign.

Elizabeth Warren’s Wealth Tax Would Cost Jeff Bezos $4.1 Billion in First Year
(Bloomberg) — Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest person, would have to pay $4.1 billion in the first year under U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren’s soon-to-be proposed wealth tax, based on his current net worth of $137.1 billion.
The Amazon.com Inc. founder and the other 174 Americans on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 richest people, would collectively owe $61 billion.
Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, plans to propose a tax of 2 percent on those with assets of $50 million to $1 billion and 3 percent on all fortunes exceeding $1 billion, the Washington Post reported Thursday. The tax would raise $2.75 trillion over a decade from about 75,000 families, the newspaper said, citing an economist advising Warren on the plan.
Almost all of Bezos’s net worth is tied up in Amazon stock, and such a tax bill could force him to sell some. He currently has $2.5 billion of cash and other liquid assets, according to the Bloomberg wealth index’s net worth analysis. Bezos, 55, eventually may share the tax burden with his wife MacKenzie. The couple announced earlier this month that they plan to divorce.

Lauderdale home of Trump adviser Roger Stone to take him into custody. The actions were again wholly unnecessary considering that Stone, 66, was unlikely to offer resistance.
Those sharing the FBI’s giddy delight in rounding up another member of the president’s inner circle were accorded the privilege of watching live footage of the arrest on CNN if they chose to.

Three days after Donald Trump tweeted out “Without a Wall our Country can never have Border or National Security. … No Cave!” he did the unthinkable: He caved. Sort of.
As The Washington Examiner reported a short time ago, Trump “agreed to [sic] temporarily end the government shutdown without any guarantee of more money for his border wall after the five-week funding lapse had started.” But the battle is far from over.
Many on the Right will mistake the president’s decision to end the shutdown unilatreally as an act of weakness — as a capitulation. The left-leaning Daily Beast headlines its report tauntingly, “Trump Caves, Ends Longest Government Shutdown in History Without His Precious Wall.” Democrats will no doubt gloat and claim they won the standoff, even though to do is to overlook the fine print. Namely, the administration has agreed to reopen the shuttered parts of government only through Feb. 15. Unless Democrats are willing to agree to the president’s demand as part of a deal to move forward, they now risk taking the lion’s share of the blame for any continuing stalemate.

“Sometimes when I come back from the visit with Gabriella, after saying goodbye to her, I feel as if I cannot live without her, I want to go back and hold her. She kisses me so hard. She blows kisses all the way as she goes up the stairs, and everyone stands there watching.” These are the words of a grieving British mother, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, held in prison in the Islamic Republic of Iran, as she describes saying goodbye to her child.
In 2016, the relationship between the regime of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the Obama administration seemed to have reached a euphoric level. Many exorbitant concessions were made by the United States to the Islamic Republic. The argument for these concessions was that such policies of appeasement would inspire Iran to change its malignant behavior, and that the freedoms that resulted would trickle down to the Iranian people. People began to think it would be safe to travel to Iran again. As tourism began to increase, however, it soon became clear that there was still rampant danger. People started becoming the new hostages of Iran.
Two of these victims are an innocent British mother, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, and her helpless then-22-month-old daughter, Gabriella. Zaghari-Ratcliffe traveled with her baby to Iran to visit her family on Norowz, the Iranian New Year, in 2016. With the change in political climate Zaghari-Ratcliffe, employed as a project manager with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the charitable arm of the Canadian news agency, Thomson Reuters, assumed they would be safe. As she boarded the plane, she had no idea what she would face at the Khomeini Airport. She was surrounded by The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and arrested.

While this year’s now-concluded World Economic Forum conference in Davos was mostly a dud and increasingly a joke in financial circles, with Deutsche Bank’s Jim Reid going so far as admitting that “we had a DB drinks reception for our clients last night and one said to me that in 11 years of coming here the best advice would be to trade in the opposite direction to the main theme of the conference over the next 12 months”, there was one event that boondoggling billionaires were eagerly anticipating: George Soros’ annual remarks.
And, as we reported previously, one year after he famously slammed Google and Facebook at Davos 2018, calling them a “menace” and “monopolistic” and predicting it’s “only a matter of time before the global dominance of the US IT monopolies is broken,” this time Soros took aim at what he believes is an even greater adversary, one which even Donald Trump might agree with: China.
“China is not the only authoritarian regime in the world but it is the wealthiest, strongest and technologically most advanced,” Soros lashed out at Beijing, while taking particular aim at China’s president: “This makes Xi Jinping the most dangerous opponent of open societies.”
Soros, who also warned that China’s increasing use of AI and a social credit system to monitor its citizens (as if the US is any different) could result in the most ruthless yet technologically advanced authoritarian regime in history, proposed a “solution” to eliminating what he sees as China’s ills: crash China’s economy and market, an approach Soros’ critics say he applies to every nation which he finds disagreeable:
The unspoken social contract in China is built on steadily rising living standards. If the decline in the Chinese economy and stock market is severe enough, this social contract may be undermined and even the business community may turn against Xi Jinping. Such a downturn could also sound the death knell of the Belt and Road Initiative, because Xi may run out of resources to continue financing so many loss-making investments
But before the general public rushes to declare that Soros and Trump are now BFFs due to their shared common nemesis, the billionaire democrat donor made it clear that in addition to seeking the replacement of Xi, he would be just as delighted if Trump were also gone, because since “we are in a Cold War that threatens to turn into a hot one” if “Xi and Trump were no longer in power, an opportunity would present itself to develop greater cooperation between the two cyber-superpowers.” Cooperation which would only be made possible and dominated by “something similar to the United Nations Treaty that arose out of the Second World War.” In other words an organization modeled after Soros’ very own Open Society.
Yet while Soros’ aggressive 3295-word attack on China took many by surprise, what was just as notable was China’s response to Soros’ scathing criticism: there was none.
In fact, China made it quite clear that in its opinion, Soros is no longer relevant saying that “statements by certain people, which portray black as white and distort facts, are completely pointless and not worthy of even a rebuttal.”
Of course, the best way for Beijing to respond to Soros’ damning insinuations and accusations is merely to ignore them, while implicitly stating that Soros is not only senile but ideologically motivated and “distorting the facts”, in short: not even worthy of a rebuttal.
That said, Soros took aim not only at China, but also Russia, saying “I’ve been concentrating on China, but open societies have many more enemies, Putin’s Russia foremost among them.” And unlike China, Russia’s response to Soros’ remarks was somewhat more explicit, with Russia’s Minister for Economic Development Maksim Oreshkin saying that “Washington should focus on actually fixing its domestic problems instead of searching for external enemies to blame them on.”
According to Oreshkin, the US should stop trying to blame the troubles of “open societies” on someone else, but look for the root of its problems at home.
“Look at what is happening in America. Over the past 30 years real income of the middle class and below haven’t grown almost at all. The expenses for healthcare and education have risen trifold, even taking inflation in account,” Oreshkin told RT during a press conference in Davos. “Naturally, it has led to the growth of dissent in America, becoming one of the factors in Donald Trump, with all his peculiar rhetoric, becoming the president.”
The Russian then hit the bullseye: “the problems are within the US. An external enemy, which impedes them and causes all the trouble in the US – whether Russia or China – is just substitution of concepts.”
The official warned that such an approach – expressed by Soros and other figures of the US elite – sows nothing but confrontation, which ultimately harms the US itself end impedes economic growth worldwide.
“Until every country realizes that the problems exist, above all, in themselves and not in some external forces, such mindset will persist and we’ll continue to hear such statements,” Oreshkin added, yet we are confident that anyone who relayed his important message would be dubbed a Kremlin agent and branded fake news.

Syrian Man Arrested After Molesting Young German Girls on Their Way to School (breitbart, Jan 26, 2019)

“A 25-year-old Syrian man was arrested in the German town of Landshut this week after approaching a group of young girls on their way to school and molesting them.
The incident occurred at around 7:45 in the morning and saw the 25-year-old asylum seeker approach a group of young girls aged 11 to 14 while in a state of intoxication. According to the victims, the man asked if they wanted to come back “to his room” with him before he began getting more aggressive, Passauer Neue Presse reports.
Police say that after the man propositioned the young girls, he grabbed the buttocks of a 13-year-old prompting a 14-year-old girl to intervene and attempt to get the young girls away from the migrant. The migrant proceeded to insult the girl who slapped the Syrian after he became “extremely aggressive” and was then hit in the face by the man.
The incident continued as the man followed the girls to their school where he again attempted to proposition another young girl, this time an 11-year-old.
Police then put out a warrant for the man and arrested him a short time later. He was already known to police for a prior traffic offence and is now being investigated on charges of sexual harassment and assault while he remains in custody at a local correctional facility.
The case is just the latest of a wave of migrant sex attacks since the height of the migrant crisis in 2015, many of which have involved adults preying on minors.
In one case in Freiberg last November, the mother of a 12-year-old girl who was molested by a Gambian migrant while aboard a train was given a police warning after she attempted to find the identity of the man using social media.
The case came only weeks after a gang of seven Syrians were arrested following the gang rape of an 18-year-old in the same city.”

“Amnesty International has uncovered new testimonies detailing the torture and ill-treatment of a group of Saudi Arabian human rights activists, who have been arbitrarily detained since May 2018.
In a statement yesterday, Amnesty indicated that the testimonies were consistent with similar testimonies given in November 2018 about the torture of a number of activists. It also highlighted the urgent need to allow independent observers to access to the detention centre where the activists are being held to investigate the allegations.
According to the new testimonies, a group of ten human rights activists were subjected to torture and sexual abuse, as well as other forms of ill-treatment, during the first three months of their detention when they were held in an informal detention centre at an unknown location.
“One of the interrogators told one of the female activists falsely that her family members had died and made her believe it for one month,” one testimony reveals.
In another account, a male and a female activist were forced to kiss each other on the lips while the interrogators watched them. One female activist said that interrogators poured water into her mouth as she screamed while she was tortured.
Other male and female activists said that they were tortured with electric shocks.
Middle East Research Director at Amnesty International, Lynn Maalouf, said that “we are deeply concerned about the safety of these activists arbitrarily detained for almost nine months simply because of their defence of human rights”.
She added: “The Saudi authorities have repeatedly shown that they are unwilling to effectively protect detainees from torture or to conduct impartial investigations into allegations of torture in detention centres.”
“For this reason, we call on the Saudi authorities to allow independent oversight bodies access to detained activists immediately and without restrictions,” she concluded.
In November, Amnesty documented how activists detained arbitrarily since May 2018 – among them a number of women – have been tortured with electric shocks and constant flogging, resulting in the inability of some to walk or stand properly. The new testimonies show that more activists have been subjected to this type of torture.
Human Rights Watch (HRW) has also called for access to detainees in the Kingdom.
HRW said that the Human Rights Commission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – a government body – and the Attorney-General “are not independent [enough] to conduct a serious and transparent investigation.”
Middle East Deputy Director at HRW, Michael Page, said that “internal investigations in Saudi Arabia have little chance of knowing the truth about the treatment of detainees, including prominent figures, or holding anyone responsible for crimes accountable.”
He added: “If Saudi Arabia really wants to know what has happened and hold the aggressors accountable, it must allow independent access to these detainees.”
In December, Amnesty sent a letter to the Saudi authorities requesting that independent oversight bodies, including international organisations, be allowed access to human rights defenders, but the organisation has not yet received a response The Saudi Ministry of Media, however, denied these allegations and described them as “baseless”.
Many of the activists who were arbitrarily detained in the May 2018 crackdown remain in detention without charge and without legal representation. News of the torture of male and female activists has spread following international outrage over the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on 2 October.”

“A group of Tunisian women have used social media sites to call for a protest demanding polygamy.
Polygamy is a taboo issue in Tunisia and a crime punishable by law, under Article 18 of the Personal Status Code. However, a group of women have taken to social media to call for a protest to be held in front of parliament to demand polygamy.
The news was announced by President of the Forum of Freedom and Citizenship, Fathi Al-Zghal, who confirmed that “the demonstration is spontaneous and comes within the framework of advocacy to solve the problem of spinsterhood in the country”.
Al-Zghal said in a statement to Al-Khaleej Online that he did not call for the demonstration himself, but supports the idea because he believes there is a need to find a solution to the dilemma of spinsterhood.
He added that he is also calling for a review of all articles of the Personal Status Code – a set of laws that stipulate the rights and freedoms of women in Tunisia – and not only the article relating to polygamy. This includes reviewing unfair divorce procedures and abolishing the principle of adoption because it is contrary to Sharia law.
Al-Zghal has stressed in previous press statements that the women will participate in the demonstration to express their anger at the failure of Tunisia to allow polygamy. He added that “the protest is not linked to any political entity and is not led by any associations”.
The calls for a demonstration have sparked debate about the issue of polygamy, which is rejected by the majority of Tunisians but supported by a minority on the pretext of following Sharia law.
In this context, researcher of Islamic civilisation, Sami Braham, wrote that: “Unmarried women who missed a wedding opportunity believe that opening the door to polygamy will enable them to get married.” He added however that “in my estimation, and according to my knowledge of the male gender to which I belong to, the opposite will happen because the crisis will be exacerbated by men looking for younger women, unless they accept marriage as an act of charity and kindness”.
A number of activists believe the call for polygamy was motivated by political parties in order to target the Islamic Ennahda movement and distort its image before the upcoming elections. Activist Mohammed Nur Musa described the demonstration as a “Satanic idea” which “aims to mobilize supporters of the regime and its partners to distort the Islamic Ennahda movement”. “It is a failed plan which will not deceive the smart Tunisian people,” he added.
Another activist, Raouf Al-Guizani, described this demand as “electoral begging” aimed at distorting Ennahda. He pointed out that political parties close to Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi supported these moves and called on people not to follow these calls.
Meanwhile the Head of the National Union of Tunisian Women, Radhia Djerbi, said in a statement to Alkhaleej Online that the articles of the Personal Status Code were approved by the Tunisian Constitution and cannot be amended through protest.
Djerbi considered calls for protests demanding polygamy to be “a form of madness, a pathological phenomenon. She claimed that it also “indicates a lack of awareness of those who demand it,” adding that “this will not affect the lifestyle of Tunisian society or the achievements of Tunisian women”.
According to the latest report published by the National Office for Family and Population in December 2017, Tunisia is one of the countries with the highest rate of reluctance to get married, with figures standing at 60 per cent – much higher than the ratios of other Arab countries.
The report revealed that the number of single women has increased to more than 2.25 million, out of a total of 4.9 million females in the country. This has increased from only 990,000 in 1994, with spinsterhood the highest among females age 25-34.
According to an international study conducted in December, Tunisia ranked fourth in the Arab world and first in north Africa in the percentage of single women. However, sociologist Salahuddin Ben Faraj does not see polygamy as the solution to the problem.
Ben Faraj told Alkhaleej Online that “polygamy will open the door to the emergence of new social problems that do not exist today,” pointing out that “the implementation of this idea is almost impossible in Tunisia, as polygamy had not exceeded 5 per cent since it was allowed centuries ago”.”
