Mexico Once Saw Migration as a U.S. Problem. Now It Needs Answers of Its Own.
TIJUANA, Mexico — After taking the oath of office, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador addressed Mexico’s Congress on Saturday, covering all the hallmarks of his Mexico-first politics: combating poverty, social development, strengthening the rule of law and attacking corruption.
Notably absent from his speech was a specific reference to one of the most pressing matters of his young administration: the thousands of migrants who traveled through the region in caravans and are now gathered in Tijuana, at the Mexico-United States border.
Mr. López Obrador campaigned on a nationalist platform focused on helping Mexicans. But the Tijuana crisis has pushed to the forefront the challenges posed by large-scale migration through the region and the pressure it puts on Mexico’s relationships with Central America, from which the majority of migrants are from, and the United States, where most are headed. NR: It is impossible to convey the almost overwhelming degree of schadenfreude that arises from seeing Mexico experience a mildly significant—or, at least, comparatively well-publicized—”migrant” dilemma all its own. Tragically, the Mexican government’s acute embarrassment and deafening silence over the abject hypocrisy involved on their own part had made a mockery (however vindicating) of what outraged, patriotic Americans have yowled about for decades.
As long as they were just moving through they were someone else’s problem, now that they can’t get in the US they are Mexico’s problem. Mexico’s old attitude has turned around and is showing them that they should have been better neighbors.

A central problem being that much of what happens south-of-the-border and further along all comes from having been infected with Communism’s favorite way to divide and conquer: The Zero Sum Game™. This belief that others must lose so that you may win appeals to deep-seated combative traits that were embedded into the human psyche back when we still were sleeping in trees.
Despite discouraging human sacrifice, the Spanish conquistadors, with their looting mentality, further entrenched counterproductive colonial practices like corruption, slavery, forced labor, summary execution, and other cruel abuses.
Nor should you think that the Aztecs were a benign, latter-day Amnesty International. Child torture and other abhorrent rites were an integral part of their culture. The treatment of enemy combatants (e.g., having their beating heart cut out of their still-living body) wasn’t exactly up to Geneva Conventions spec either.
When interwoven, Spanish and Aztec psychosocial modalities combined to make a brutally exploitative mindset. Now imagine this same way of thinking being spread throughout Central and South America as well, then toss in a swipe across the anthropological agar plate with Communism’s inoculating loop. Sort of explains why so many of the countries in question aren’t exactly industrial powerhouses, eh?
Until the caravan arrived, Mexico was just reusing the same old page out of their well-thumbed Zero Sum playbook. To a limited extent, Pemex revenues have marginally improved Mexico’s quality-of-life. All too typically, corruption siphons off a disproportionate potion of that otherwise abundant wealth. However, Mexico was nonetheless able to offer some of the migrants jobs, which puts them out in front of their further-south neighboring governments.
For once, Mexico is confronted with the need to find Win–Win solutions. Their dogeared copy of Communist Manifesto doesn’t have much to offer and just can’t seem to account for someone like Trump who is, to whatever conspicuous degree, a non-subscriber to self-loathing or White guilt.
This Oval Office obstinance has flabbergasted Mexican federal authorities (and human-trafficking narco-warlords alike). They all are more used to previous, lily-livered American administrations that (regardless of partisan stripe) all rolled over and wet themselves rather than dare take on our Little Brown Brothers—and instantly be tarred as “racist” by both Mexico’s ruling Zero Sum gang and American Liberals.
Mexico is about to learn a very old Western saying:
“Good fences make good neighbors.”
NOTE: Incidentally, this adage was around centuries (e.g., appearing in in Benjamin Franklin’s “Poor Richard’s Almanack”) before Robert Frost supposedly coined it.

Danes Spar Over Island to House Deportees
A tiny teardrop-shaped island off the coast of Denmark has become the focus of a dispute between the government and human-rights campaigners over how the country treats failed asylum seekers.
The Danish parliament agreed on Friday in its budget for 2019 to fund a deportation center on Lindholm Island, 2 miles offshore. The island would house failed asylum seekers who have committed crimes, foreigners who are deemed a national-security risk and other foreigners who are slated for deportation for crimes and have served their sentences.
“Rejected asylum seekers who have committed crimes but can’t be immediately deported have no place in Denmark and must be deported as soon as possible,” the budget document said.
The island currently houses a veterinary institute. The deportation center would start operating in 2021 and house up to 125 people, according to the plan.

The Large Hadron Collider has been Shut Down, and Will Stay Down for Two Years While they Perform Major Upgrades
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is getting a big boost to its performance. Unfortunately, for fans of ground-breaking physics, the whole thing has to be shut down for two years while the work is done. But once it’s back up and running, its enhanced capabilities will make it even more powerful.
The essence of the Large Hadron Collider is to accelerate particles and then direct them to collide with each other in chambers. Cameras and detectors are trained on these collisions, and the results are monitored in minute detail. It’s all about discovering new particles and new reactions between particles, and watching how particles decay.
This shutdown is called Long Shutdown 2 (LS2.) The first shutdown was LS1, and it took place between 2013 and 2015. During LS1 the power of the collider was improved, and so were its detection capabilities. The same will happen during LS2, when engineers will reinforce and upgrade the whole accelerator complex and the detectors. The work is in preparation for the next LHC run, which will start in 2021. It’s also to prepare for the a project called the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, which starts in 2025.

A group of eight immigrants suspected of brutally raping and sexually assaulting schoolgirls over a prolonged period of time have been arrested in the Finnish town of Oulu. According to the police all the men came to Finland as asylum seekers or refugees, some from the Middle East, national broadcaster Yle reported.
The alleged abusers are aged 18-40, whereas their victims were all aged under 15, with the youngest only 10 years of age. At least some of those detained have already received Finnish citizenship.
“We are talking about a period several months”, police commissioner Markus Kiiskinen told the newspaper Kaleva. “The suspected crimes are extremely violent and are exceptionally high-level”, Kiiskinen added.
Oulu deputy police chief Arto Karnaranta admitted that he has never seen anything similar in his nearly 38-year-long career as a police officer.
“It constitutes extremely serious aggression against minors. I haven’t seen anything similar in my entire career”, Karnaranta said.
Deputy police chief Karnaranta urged the public in Oulu to keep calm and not to take matters into their own hands, but instead let the police handle the case.
The police in the city of Oulu released an official message to young girls and their parents, warning them of foreign men contacting the young girls on social media and luring them in to situations where they are raped and sexually abused.
More arrests are expected, according to the Oulu Police Department.
Prime Minister Juha Sipilä condemned the terrible sexual assault, calling the events “outrageous”, as well as an “inhuman act of incomprehensible evil” in a tweet.
In an official statement, Sipilä elaborated that a number of foreigners are suspected of “the worst crime” against children under the age of 15. Sipilä called integrity a “fundamentally important issue”, pledging that criminals will receive their due sentences regardless of their ethnicity. The prime minister also stressed that penalties for sexual offences against children must be in line with people’s perception, stressing that a bill to increase punishment has been submitted to parliament.
This message was in effect echoed by President Sauli Niinistö, who called the crimes “shocking in their inhumanity”, the daily newspaper Ilta Sanomat reported. According to Niinistö, Finland must muster strength to fight this “evil”.
“This should not be happening in Finland”, Interior Minister Kai Mykkänen told the newspaper Iltalehti.
Mykkänen said that Finnish society must “find ways to prevent similar cases” and claimed harsher sentencing one of the ways to go.
According to Mykkänen, the authorities should take a closer look into immigrants’ attitudes.
“Education and work are of course already being done for integration, but we still have to look at what can be required more clearly in the attitudes, looking into ways in which those who move here can become committed to our values”, Mykkänen said.
“Sometimes it feels like nothing can shock you, but this case certainly does”, law professor Johanna Niemi of Turku University said.
The Finnish government is currently working on toughening punishment for sexual crimes where children are victimised, as well as a new legislation that would allow quicker deportation of criminal foreigners.
According to Statistics Finland, foreign nationals are disproportionately represented in sex crime statistics. In 2017, 693 Finnish citizens were suspected of rape, compared with 286 foreign nationals.”

I cannot urge you strongly enough to read Clayton Christensen’s, “The Innovator’s Dilemma” and its sister (third) volume, “The Innovator’s solution”. In these two relatively short books, Christensen frames the evolutionary process of invention and innovation—and lucidly explains why, for instance, IBM, even in its prime, never could have invented the PC or laptop computer.
Red China has deluded itself into believing that it can sidestep such (to them) bothersome, time-consuming steps and land directly on “Go” to get their $200.

South Korea has expressed frustration and concern over the growing number of intrusions into its air defense identification zone at the hands of Chinese military aircraft in recent years, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported Wednesday.
SCMP learned from Seoul that Chinese military’s incursions into South Korea’s airspace have “nearly doubled” in recent years.
“According to the South Korean Air Force, the number of Chinese military aircraft entering its [defense] identification zone is rising. In 2016, there were about 60 incursions, 70 in 2017 and 110 were reported up to September this year,” the news outlet reported.

China Boosting Number of Warplane Incursions into South Korea
At the very least, they’re probes to monitor the response (i.e., “scramble”) times, along with operating frequency bands of SK radar, voice and data, plus any easily harvested short haul wireless communications.
Here’s a true tale about why such probes can be so useful.
Long ago, in what represents some of the earliest military use of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), Israel would fly an EMF sensing relay drone up the Beqaa Valley as part of forcing Lebanese and Hezbollah radar stations to go active. The frequency bands and other parametric information was telemetered back to Israel.
Upon receiving the base-frequency intercepts, IAF fighter-bomber wings would fine tune airborne ECM (Electronic Counter-Measures) for jamming those same Beqaa installations as they commenced to inflict rubblization* upon various and sundry SAM and short-range missile units.
After the relay drone’s visit, Lebanese and Hezbollah elements had far too little time for shutting down, re-keying, and subsequently testing the individual radars to ensure there were no overlapping frequencies—much less any luxury of recalibrating their ranging—before IAF squadrons were overhead bombing the everliving snot out of them.
In a historical perspective, it’s the more recent advent of inexpensive, high-precision, guided weapons that makes Iran’s (now overt) anti-Israeli meddling via Hezbollah and Hamas such a matter for concern. Tehran’s mullahs desperately need some extensive, prolonged, and repeated sessions of parking lot therapy.

French authorities fear ‘great violence’ as yellow vest anger endures
PARIS (Reuters) – French authorities are worried that another wave of “great violence” and rioting will be unleashed in Paris this weekend by a hard core of several thousand ‘yellow vest’ protesters, an official in the French presidency said on Thursday.
Despite capitulating this week over plans for fuel taxes that inspired the nationwide revolt, President Emmanuel Macron has struggled to quell the anger that led to the worst street unrest in central Paris since 1968.
Rioters torched cars, shattered windows, looted shops and sprayed and anti-Macron graffiti across some of Paris’s most affluent districts, even defacing the Arc de Triomphe. Scores of people were hurt and hundreds arrested in battles with police.
Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced late on Wednesday that he was scrapping the fuel-tax increases planned for 2019, having announced a six-month suspension the day before, in a desperate bid to defuse the worst crisis of Macron’s presidency.
The Elysee official said intelligence suggested that some protesters would come to the capital “to vandalize and to kill”.

Yellow vests: in Paris, general mobilization of the police on Saturday
After the violence on Saturday, November 24 and December 1, during the Yellow Vest events in Paris and other cities in the country, gatherings scheduled for Saturday, December 8 will be held again under high security. In the capital, the enforcement regime /measures will once again evolve after their last week’s failure, when the closure of the Champs-Elysees had immobilized a large number of law enforcement.
For “Act 4” of the Yellow Vests, it is the general mobilization. According to internal sources at the police headquarters, about twice as many police, around 8,000, will be deployed in Paris, Saturday. A week ago, about fifty units of the mobile forces were mobilized. On December 8, 79 of them will be engaged, including the Squadrons of Mobile Constables and the CRS, with about 60 police officers per force. there is a new strategy: the instructions says police should be not only mobile, but also to go into contact.
The staff of the Directorate of Public Order and Traffic (DOPC), those of the Department of local security of the Paris agglomeration (DSPAP) will complete the “operational management provisions”. All police brigades’ relief will also be mobilized: the police prefecture will be 100% of presents. The BAC, the territorial contact brigades, the staff of the Parisian police stations, the security and intervention companies … All the agents are recalled for the day of Saturday, but also of Sunday for some. No absence is possible.
Transport under high security
There will also be maximum security in the public transport: the transport police is mobilized at the rate of 100 police officers per brigade, outside and at railway stations and RER and metro stations. Usually, a police officer can ask his administration to pay for his legal fees, but the agreement is not automatic and depends on the good will of the hierarchy. The Crisis Staff is therefore tasked with providing legal assistance to police officers who are victims of violence who wish to take legal action by speeding up the usual administrative processes related to the use of functional protection.

Kino Gabriel, spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces, said the terrorists were taking advantage of political instability in Syria and Iraq.
He told Financial Times: “Our estimation of ISIS’s power was wrong.

“A new booklet for daycare workers that claims to help identify “Nazi parents” suggests looking out for girls with braided hair and athletic boys.
The 60-page booklet, entitled Ene, Mene, Muh – And You’re Out! was designed by the far-left “anti-hate” Amadeu Antonio Foundation ,which is headed by former Stasi informant Annette Kahane and based in Berlin with the foreword being written by Social Democrat (SPD) Family Minister Franziska Giffey, Berliner Kurier reports.
Ms Kahane made headlines in 2015 after the German government recruited her and the foundation to scour social media for “xenophobic posts” during the height of the migrant crisis.
Vice-Chairman of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) parliamentary group Nadine Schön slammed the booklet saying the case studies and suggestions were “absurd.”
“If educators should become overseers and correctors of parental convictions, that [crosses a line],” Schön said.
Labelling the practice “parenting espionage” — or spying on parents — the CDU politician criticised the aspects of the booklet that identifies the way children dress or how much physical activity they participate in as being potential signs their parents might be Nazis. saying it does not fit with democracy.
The Amadeu Antonio Foundation defended the booklet claiming that the case studies were based on real-life cases they had witnessed including a girl with braided hair whose parents turned out to be far-right extremists. They also admitted that since the release of the booklet their phones had been slammed with complaints.
The case studies echo research presented by Antifa groups in 2016, which claimed that “Volkisch families,” those who believe in countryside living and traditional German culture and values, posed a threat to Germany.
Antifascist Action group member Olaf Meyer warned of “young couples [who] buy farms and restore them together with their relatives and friends.”
The Amadeu Antonio Foundation has been roundly criticised in the past, not just for Kahane’s former Stasi ties but also for their methods which have been likened to the old East German secret police.
In 2016, the organisation was protested by the anti-mass migration youth activist Identitarian Movement which put up Stasi-logo stickers on the foundation’s Berlin office along with another sticker saying, “enter the surveillance state.” Kahane and the foundation later threatened to take the Identitarians to court over the incident.
Communist political oppression academic and Stasi expert Dr Hubertus Knabe also came out against Kahane in 2016, saying that it was “incomprehensible” to allow her the ability to have control over what people say online given her past.
The booklet has also sparked a petition on Change.org to cut the funding the foundation receives from German taxpayers, with over 5,500 signatures at the time of publication. The petition singles out the booklet saying, “The Amadeu Antonio Foundation, under the guise of fighting Hate Speech, is calling on citizens to denounce, report or criminalise other citizens.””

What If We Already Have The Mueller Report?
When he completes his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, including possible coordination with Russia by the Trump campaign, special counsel Robert Mueller is required by federal regulations to submit a confidential report to the attorney general. Depending on how Mueller decides to approach his task, that could be an expansive report outlining all of the details of his findings.
But it’s also possible that the American public will never get to read Mueller’s report — at least not the full version. That’s because Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker (assuming that he’s still in the job when the report comes in) and other Justice Department officials will give key members of Congress a brief overview of what’s in the report and then determine whether and how to make Mueller’s findings public. It’s not at all obvious that Whitaker, who has been critical of Mueller’s investigation in the past, will want to share the full report more broadly, and President Trump’s attorneys might even try to block its release.
But in some ways, Mueller has been writing a public “report” over the past 13 months, through the indictments and charging documents that his office has issued. Many of the indictments, describing what Mueller and his team have found, are more detailed than required. (Much of the detail in a supplement to Michael Flynn’s sentencing memo released late Tuesday was redacted.)

What do you do if you’re a supranational behemoth with a multi-billion dollar budget coupled with a vast number of subsidiary entities that focus on migration?
If you’re the U.N., you publish the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and seek to set up more supranational government entities to duplicate the work you’re already doing, at a gargantuan cost to (mostly Western) taxpayers.
The report — a subject of consternation around the world, and wisely nixed by President Trump in 2017 — is due to be signed in Marrakech on Dec. 11.
But if the latest nations to object — Italy, Austria, Hungary and Poland — have anything to say about it, the document may end up in the shredders of the U.N.’s headquarters in New York.
Speaking of the agreement in late 2017, then U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley stated, “Our decisions on immigration policies must always be made by Americans and Americans alone … The global approach in the New York Declaration is simply not compatible with U.S. sovereignty.”
It seems the rest of the world is waking up, with a U.K. parliamentary petition now nearing 100,000 signatures in opposition to Britain becoming a signatory. Similar movements are springing up in Denmark, New Zealand and Belgium.

Spain: Anti-fascist protesters clash with police in Girona
Anti-fascist protesters clashed violently with police in the north-eastern Spanish city of Girona on Thursday.
Protesters were reportedly trying to gain access to the October 1 Square in order to disrupt a rally being held there by the far-right nationalist Vox party, but were blocked from doing so by police charging with batons.
According to local sources, several protesters and six police officers were injured in the fray.
Vox entered a regional parliament for the first time on Monday, after they won 12 seats in the elections held in Andalusia.

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe pledged “exceptional” nation-wide security measures on Thursday, speaking at the French Senate in Paris ahead of next Saturday’s planned protests.
Philippe said the government is planning to deploy additional officers across the country, amid fears that “troublemakers” will take to the streets again, after days of violence and clashes with the police.
The prime minister also confirmed that the government will scrap the proposed fuel tax, in order to preserve social peace.
The fiscal measure, which triggered the “yellow vests” protest over the past weeks, was due to come into effect on January 1, 2019.
France: Students blockade more than 200 schools in anti-govt protests
Students in the north-western city of Nantes set fire to a car and burnt rubbish in the street on Thursday, as part of a wave of protests against the government’s proposed reforms to the school system that have seen at least 200 high schools blockaded across France.
Police deployed tear gas against the protesters, who responded with by throwing stones and other projectiles.
The government is seeking to change many aspects of the French education system, but proposals to introduce selective criteria for university admissions have proven to be particularly unwelcome amongst students. Currently anyone who passes their baccalaureate test at the end of secondary education is guaranteed entrance to a publicly funded university.
Similar actions have been in the cities of Bordeaux, Toulouse, Marseille, Lyon and some suburbs of Paris in the past days.
On Thursday, Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer urged people to stay at home over the weekend, with the government fearing an escalation of violence in the coming days.

Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno urged the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to leave the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has been hiding for years, claiming that the extradition to the US no longer threatens him, as the UK has provided written assurance of it.
“The road is clear for Mr. Assange to take the decision to leave”, he said during a radio interview on 6 December.
The Ecuadorian president didn’t say whether he is planning to force Assange to leave the embassy, but noted that his legal team is considering options for their next step.
Moreno has previously raised the issue Assange’s lengthy stay at the embassy and considered his departure in the near future. At the same, time he has demanded assurances from British authorities that the WikiLeaks founder wouldn’t be extradited to the US upon leaving the Ecuadorian Embassy.”

“Sadiq Khan is an Islamophobe. Not just any old Islamophobe, and not just in the woollier parts of the web. According to a group part-funded by the EU called the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC), the mayor of London, a practising Muslim, is one of the four ‘politicians and figures of note in the UK who [have] flagrantly displayed the most Islamophobia’ in 2018.
Barack Obama is an Islamophobe. Cathy Newman, the Channel 4 News presenter, is an Islamophobe. So are Louise Casey, who led an inquiry into the Rotherham grooming scandal, Michael Wilshaw, the ex-head of Ofsted, and Maajid Nawaz, the Muslim counter-extremism activist. Over the last few years, all have been shortlisted for the coveted ‘Islamophobe of the Year’ trophy at the IHRC’s annual Islamophobia Awards, a real event with a real gala dinner in a real London hotel ballroom.
The absurd, defamatory claims against Khan and the rest show how difficult the term Islamophobia can be. Many use it sincerely to describe anti-Muslim abuse and violence that is real, serious, has taken at least three lives in the past five years and blighted many more. But Islamist extremists, and wrongdoers who happen to be Muslim, routinely debase the word to smear and intimidate their critics: hence Khan and Nawaz’s appearances in the shortlist of shame.
I never minded when supporters of Lutfur Rahman, the corrupt Tower Hamlets mayor who took power with an extremist group’s help, or Tahir Alam, the grand vizier of the Trojan Horse schools plot, called me an Islamophobe for my investigations into them. Being lied about by liars is part of the job. But now maybe I should start to worry.
Last week, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on British Muslims published a ‘landmark report’ demanding a ‘legally binding definition of Islamophobia’. It was launched by the group’s co-chairs, the Tory MP Anna Soubry and Labour’s Wes Streeting, and the former Tory minister Baroness Warsi. Dominic Grieve, the ex-attorney-general, wrote the foreword. Lord Bourne, the communities minister, spoke.
Wittingly or unwittingly, these estimable figures, the report and the APPG are being used by deeply problematic groups to push profoundly dubious ideas into government.
The new definition, the report makes clear, should control and police a vast spectrum of activity, extending ‘far beyond’ anything that can currently ‘be captured as criminal’.
It should, for instance, set ‘appropriate limits to free speech’ when talking about Muslims, and create ‘tests… for ascertaining whether contentious speech is indeed reasonable criticism or Islamophobia masquerading as “legitimate criticism”.’ Examples include alleging ‘conspiracies about Muslim entryism in politics, government or social institutions’. This could include the Trojan Horse plot or the extremist take-over in Tower Hamlets.
The report finds ‘compelling’ a proposal that to be legal, criticism must not be ‘insincere’, the test being: ‘Does [the critic] really care about the issue, or [are they] using it to attack Muslims in the way that many use feminism and homosexuality?’ But who decides who ‘really cares’ and who’s ‘sincere’ or not? Do only Peter Tatchell and Gloria Steinem get to criticise Islam’s treatment of gays and women?
With a fine circularity, the APPG proposes that ‘accusing Muslims… of exaggerating Islamophobia’ should itself be deemed Islamophobic. Would it then be prohibited to correct the Islamic Human Rights Commission when it calls Sadiq Khan an Islamophobe?
Free expression is not the only area affected. The definition is ‘also required… to bring about a transformation in social etiquette’. The report agreed with one witness who said it should cover ‘negative attitudes’ by individuals, including ‘micro-aggressions’. Last year, Oxford University said that ‘not making eye contact’ with a black student could be a micro-aggression.
The APPG report itself bears some resemblance to an entryist operation and fails its own sincerity test. For years, MPs have been warned off a deeply nasty group called Mend: Muslim Engagement and Development. This has hosted numerous meetings with extremists. One of its senior figures supported killing British troops, and another described the (Muslim) counter-extremism czar, Sara Khan, with the racist slur ‘Oreo’: brown outside but white within.
Mend lies about Islamophobia as part of a campaign to alienate British Muslims from their country and state. Its promotional film for its recent ‘Islamophobia awareness month’ claimed that a student had his home ‘raided over a word googled for a worksheet’, something it now says was ‘artistic licence’. It says Britain and Europe are so Islamophobic that we ‘may already be close’ to the conditions that allowed the Holocaust.
Mend was banished from involvement with a previous parliamentary group on Islamophobia, and Ms Soubry has disowned it. Alas, one of the key figures in writing the new report was Antonio Perra, the only non-MP thanked in the acknowledgments for his ‘considerable’ and ‘immensely valuable’ support. The APPG discreetly omits to mention this, but Dr Perra is, according to his LinkedIn page, ‘senior policy analyst’ for Mend.
One of the APPG’s secretariat, Muhbeen Hussain, is from Rotherham, where in 2015 he organised the local Muslim community to boycott the police for their ‘Islamophobic’ behaviour after the child-sex grooming scandal. And the man who jointly coined the proposed definition of Islamophobia? He is Salman Sayyid, ‘professor of social theory and decolonial thought’ at Leeds. But Professor Sayyid has another gig, too: he works with our very dear friends the Islamic Human Rights Commission. He’s even spoken at the Islamophobia Awards: the year they gave it to Barack Obama.
There’s a debate in Whitehall just now. At the communities department they’re thought to sympathise with defining Islamophobia. For the Home Office, headed by Sajid Javid, another of the IHRC’s Muslim ‘Islamophobes’, any legal definition of a term so abused and politically loaded is a seriously bad idea. The APPG’s report was meant to tip the scales. In overreaching so clumsily, it might indeed have done so — just not in the direction that Warsi and Mend hoped.”

Mohammed Mousa Al Amiri said on Thursday that UN Envoy Martin Griffiths must be “realistic” when negotiating with the rebels, who he claims are “taking advantage” of UN-backed talks to deepen the country’s humanitarian crisis.
“A big part of the problem here, and we have spoken about this with the UN envoy, is that we want the mediator to be realistic with the Houthis, to tell them that they are in the wrong and are violating international laws,” Mr Al Amiri said, explaining that he believes that such a confrontation is the only way to reach a peaceful settlement.
“Taking a soft stance towards the rebels will enable them to commit further crimes against humanity and to worsen Yemen’s destruction and humanitarian catastrophe,” Mr Al Amiri said.
A Houthi delegation arrived in the Swedish town of Rimbo, north of Stockholm on Tuesday, in a sign of willingness to engage in negotiations, but the government still believes that rebels are not “serious” about finding a peaceful solution to the war, according to the adviser.
Mr Al Amiri says he believes Houthi rebels are deliberately refusing to make concessions and are rejecting the international community’s calls for a political settlement.
The advisor also claimed that Houthis are leveraging a stall in fighting in Yemen, owed largely to talks, to get “their affairs in order”.
“The rebels are changing their tactics on the ground because the National Army can easily re-take the strategic port of Hodeidah,” he said.
The Yemeni government, backed by the Arab Coalition, accuses the Iran-backed rebels of using their control of the port, the main entry point for Yemen’s food imports and desperately needed humanitarian aid, to smuggle in weapons from Iran.
“Hodeidah can fall back into the hands of the government, but we are giving an opportunity to the peace because we want peace,” Mr Al Amiri said.
More than three years of fighting have left 8 million Yemenis facing severe food shortages. UN officials say that 14 million people, or half the population, are at risk of famine.”

Amid the brutal civil war, a town fought off the regime and the fundamentalists—and dared to hold an election. Can its experiment in democracy survive?
The piece tells us that, despite the fact that al-Qaeda rules Idleb since at least 2015, it is really a cradle of genuine democracy:
In the summer of 2017, for the first time anywhere in Syria since 1954, the residents of the town of Saraqib decided to seize control of their future—and hold a genuinely free election.
On the morning that polls were to open, an activist named Osama al-Hossein woke up at five o’clock, feeling anxious. He soon headed to Idlib Gate, a former department store that had been turned into a meeting hall. A small crowd was milling about: local journalists, election monitors, and suited dignitaries who, in international circles, represented the Syrian opposition. The election was meant to choose the leader of the Local Council, a civilian body that governed the town. Poll workers checked their phones for reports of air traffic: Syrian and Russian jets were known to attack public gatherings, and activists had posted sentries around the province.[…]
In reality “an alternative history” is not what happened to Saraqib, but what is presented in the New Yorker piece. It is a whitewash of a brutal international attack on Syria. A hagiography of one Osama al-Hossein, a Muslim Brotherhood ‘activist’, who got funding from the United States. It includes every false propaganda cliche about ‘barrel bombs’ and ‘moderate rebels’, who never were moderate, that the ‘western’ agencies inserted into the news stream. Writing last week about the new affection for socialism on the part of Millellenials, electoral maven Karl Rove warned us not to ignore or dismiss this enthusiasm. Socialism’s long record of failure “doesn’t mean new forms of socialism can’t gain a following.” Rove’s solution is for Republicans to “do the hard work of updating old arguments,” and “hone their arguments” against socialist policies in preparation for the 2020 presidential race.
Welcome to 2500 years of dubious thinking about the power of rational persuasion and coherent argument to talk people out of bad ideas. It didn’t save Socrates from the hemlock, and it’s unlikely to change the minds of the worst-educated, most self-centered, and most pampered cohort in American history.
This stubborn belief in the power of rational thought and knowledge to improve human life lies at the heart of modern political ideologies like Marxism and progressivism. Both assume that the knowledge useful for politically organizing a state or society is “scientific,” comprising principles and techniques that are beyond ideology and universally true. Hence the need for enlightened technocratic elites to control social institutions and use power in order to rationally arrange human existence more justly and efficiently.

Readers who spot the Southern Poverty Law Center would be wrong. The citation is actually from Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Furling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment, an April 2009 publication of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“Let me be very clear,” said DHS boss Janet Napolitano in a statement, “we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States. We don’t have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence.”
According to Napolitano, “we are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not – nor will we ever – monitor ideology or political beliefs. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people. . .” On the other hand, the report gives the American people good cause to wonder.

Murtaza Ahmadi, now aged seven, went viral in 2016 after being photographed wearing a homemade Messi shirt, fashioned out of a plastic bag.
He later met his hero in Qatar.
His family say they have now abandoned their home in Afghanistan, after receiving threats from the Taliban.
They were living in the south-eastern Ghazni province – which militants have been targeting – and have escaped to the capital, Kabul.

George Soros and the media’s big push to take over Facebook has run into a snag. The Facebook board has made it clear that it won’t turn on the company’s leadership, despite the demands of Soros Inc, and the media, and that researching Soros was entirely legitimate.
If the Soros/Media coup wants to take over Facebook, it’s going to have to push for a clean sweep.
Here was a Soros troll demanding that heads must roll because his boss had been investigated.
Mr Gaspard called these allegations “smears” and demanded that the US government investigate Facebook’s use of the public relations firm. The Open Society Foundations has denied funding any groups which criticise Facebook.
“Sorry, but this needs independent, congressional oversight,” Mr Gaspard said in his tweet on Wednesday.
