    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201811201069956048-belgium-brussels-attack-policeman/

“The local newspaper DH reported that a policeman was stabbed in central Brussels early on 20 November saying it was an apparent Islamist militant attack, while police have reported the motive behind the attack is unclear.

“Another cowardly act against our policemen. A police officer was injured in an attack near the commissariat. An employee is in a hospital, but not in mortal danger. All our support for the Brussels police,” Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon said on Twitter.

According to Belgian newspaper DH, the attacker shouted: ‘Allahu akbar’ (God is greatest).

“It is too early to say now what the motive was of the attacker. The investigation is underway,” a police spokeswoman said.

The attack occurred in the Ixelles region early in the morning. A second police officer used a weapon against the assailant, wounding him in the chest, the attacker has been also hospitalised.
The prosecutor’s office is investigating the circumstances and ascertaining the motives for the crime.

The stabbing occurred amid a two-day visit to Belgium by French President Emmanuel Macron.”

  3. EU Mulls Iran Sanctions in Light of Alleged Plots in France, Denmark – Reports (sputniknews, Nov 20, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201811201069954608-eu-iran-sanctions/

“Until now the EU has been unwilling to join the US sanctions on Iran preferring to maintain close trade ties with the Islamic Republic.

In a most recent policy U-turn, European Union foreign ministers hinted on Monday that their countries could be prepared to impose new economic sanctions on Iran, Reuters reported.

The sudden shift of policy came after France and Denmark accused Tehran of being allegedly behind a series of plots to carry out attacks on their soil. During a meeting in Brussels French and Danish foreign ministers filled in their fellow EU counterparts on the details of the alleged Iranian plots, although no details or names were discussed, Reuters quoted diplomats as saying on Tuesday.

France has imposed sanctions on two Iranians and Iran’s intelligence service over what it says was a botched attempt to stage a bomb attack at a rally near Paris organised by an exiled Iranian opposition group.
In October, France said it was certain about the Iranian intelligence ministry’s role in the June plot to attack a demonstration by Iranian exiles near Paris.

Also in October, Denmark said it suspected an Iranian government intelligence service of plotting an assassination on its territory and is also ready to join possible EU-wide sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Iran has denied any involvement in either alleged plot and warned that it could pull out of the nuclear deal if EU powers do not stand up for its trade and financial benefits.

The readiness to punish Tehran would be the first such move in years by the EU, which has been trying keep in place the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran. Brussels has been unwilling to consider sanctions, instead seeking talks with Tehran…”

  4. Pakistan Summons US Envoy to Protest Trump’s Tweets on Osama Bin Laden (sputniknews, Nov 20, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/201811201069957089-pakistan-summons-trump-envoy-tweets/

“The development comes on the heels of Washington’s announcement that the US would cut financial support to Pakistan due to Islamabad’s way of handling terrorism in the country.

Pakistan summoned the US Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad on Tuesday after President Donald Trump’s tweets on Pakistan’s role in fighting terrorism and the capture of Osama bin Laden.

“The Foreign Secretary called in the US CdA Ambassador Paul Jones to register a strong protest on the unwarranted and unsubstantiated allegations made against Pakistan. Rejecting the insinuations about OBL [Osama bin Laden], Foreign Secretary reminded the US CdA that it was Pakistan’s intelligence cooperation that provided the initial evidence to trace the whereabouts of OBL,” Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that “baseless rhetoric about Pakistan was totally unacceptable”:

The statement came shortly after Trump tweeted that Pakistan hadn’t given ‘anything to the US in return’ for billions of dollars in aid, and suggested that Pakistani authorities knew al-Qaeda’s ex-leader Osama bin Laden’s whereabouts before his killing by US special forces in 2011 in a raid on his house in Pakistan…”

  5. Danish Daesh Supporter Deprived of Citizenship, Expelled to Tunisia (sputniknews, Nov 20, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201811201069956196-denmark-daesh-citizenship/

“In a surprising verdict, the Danish Supreme Court went against the city court and the county court in stripping a 28-year-old Daesh* supporter of his Danish passport and showing him the door, despite him having a family in Denmark.

Danish-Tunisian Adam Johansen has been deprived of his Danish citizenship and expelled to Tunisia for joining the so-called Islamic State in Syria, Danish TV2 reported.

In the autumn of 2013, Faroese-born Johansen travelled to Syria and stayed there for five months in order to ‘make a difference’, as as he himself put it. The Supreme Court, however, rejected this explanation as ‘untrustworthy and unclear’. The sole purpose of the trip was to join Daesh and undergo weapons training, the court ruled.

The Supreme Court attached particular importance to the ‘gravity and nature of the crimes’ Johansen committed in a war zone in Syria after leaving behind family in Denmark of his own accord. If his family don’t want to live in Tunisia, they can either visit him there or communicate by phone or the internet, the court ruled.

Previously, Johansen was sentenced to four years in prison by Frederiksberg Court, but was allowed to retain his Danish citizenship, a decision later upheld by Østre Landsret Court. The Danish Supreme Court, however, ruled that it was fully possible to revoke Johansen’s Danish passport, as he still retained his Tunisian citizenship. By contrast, making the man stateless would violate the European Convention, the Supreme Court ruled.

Justice Minister Søren Pape Poulsen called the ruling a ‘good day for Denmark’.

“Today’s ruling shows that by turning your back on Denmark to fight for the Islamic State, you forfeit the right to your Danish citizenship. Even if you have a family in this country,” Pape Poulsen told the newspaper Jyllands-Posten.

Peter Vedel Kessing, a senior researcher at the Institute of Human Rights, argued the decision indicated even harsher repercussions for Danish ‘foreign fighters’.

“The ruling toughens the common practice and shows that even having a wife and a child in Denmark is not enough. Likewise, if you only have limited connection to your home country. The starting point is that as a foreign fighter, you lose your citizenship,” Kessing explained to Jyllands-Posten.

So far, the Danish Supreme Court has heard only one similar case. In 2017, Danish-Turkish pizza maker Enes Ciftci became the first one to lose his Danish citizenship, despite being born and raised in Denmark. Apart from joining Daesh on two occasions, Ciftci also supported the terrorist organisation financially.

In related cases, the Supreme Court also withdrew the citizenship of Danish-Tunisian Said Mansour, colloquially known as ‘Brønshøj Bookseller’, who was sentenced for spreading al-Qaeda* propaganda. Unlike the other cases, Mansour wasn’t born in Denmark.

Last year, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that European nations are allowed to legislate for recalling the citizenship of people suspected of sympathising with terrorist organisations, provided that it serves ‘the legitimate objective of protecting the public from the terrorist threat’.”

    • A sudden outbreak of common sense! Good for Denmark.
I wish more European countries would do this. There’s nothing stopping them, membership of a foreign army is generally grounds for revoking citizenship, and in any case people can be declared persona non grata if they are a threat.
Judges never apply these measures for some reason. Maybe a non-state actor doesn’t legally qualify as a foreign army, should be easy to fix.
Almost all european muslims have dual citizenship, so statelessness is not the problem either.
A practical problem might be that they’d become more of a threat. Harder to track when they live abroad, and it’s easy to sneak back into Europe illegally. Their own governments should keep tabs on them and throw them in jail at the first sign of trouble, but they’re not exactly trustworthy.

  7. Nine Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Connection with Murder of Transsexual Prostitute in Paris (breitbart, Nov 20, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/11/20/nine-arrested-murder-transsexual-prostitute-france-all-illegal-immigrants/

“Three months after the death of a South American transsexual street prostitute, French police have arrested a gang of nine migrants, eight of them illegals from Egypt and another claiming to be from Syria, for murder.

The murder of Vanesa Campos, born Victor Elias in Peru, occurred on August 16th at 11 pm and saw the sex worker shot and killed after yelling for help. The death of the 36-year-old sparked an intense investigation which has led to the arrest of a gang of migrants aged 15 to 30 previously known to police under more than a dozen different aliases, Le Parisien reports.

According to investigators, the gang of migrants had become well-known on the streets of the 16th arrondissement of Paris, where the murder took place, for robbing the clients of the prostitutes. Because it is illegal in France to engage in activity with a prostitute, few of their clients informed the police.

Several prostitutes told investigators that the gang had not only robbed their clients but had also made death threats to those who resisted and in one case had raped one of the sex workers.

Using information from the sex workers, police were able to track down the leader of the gang, an Egyptian thought to be from the city of Port Said, and monitor his phone conversations which led them to identify several more members of the group. During one of the intercepted calls, the leader of the group even confided in a friend that he had shot someone.

Upon the arrest of the gang members, who lived in the heavily-migrant populated suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis, they confessed to the murder but claimed they initially had no problem with Campos or any of the other prostitutes. They said the reason they were armed was that other African migrants were hired by the prostitutes was for protection…”

“Assailants on Tuesday killed a prominent separatist leader in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials and residents said, as anti-India protests and clashes followed a gunbattle that killed four rebels and an army commando in the disputed region.

Fighting began early Tuesday after police and soldiers cordoned off a village on a tip that militants were hiding in a civilian house, said army spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia. He said militants ignored calls of surrender and fired at the soldiers and in the exchange the four were killed.

Police said one soldier from India’s special forces unit was killed and two soldiers injured in the fighting…”

  9. 100 Women: The woman who decides if men can take a second wife (BBC, Nov 20, 2018)
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-45771248

“Islamic law, also known as Sharia, is often associated by critics with harsh punishments and hardline attitudes. But one of Malaysia’s first female Sharia high court judges says her role gives her an opportunity to protect women in the Muslim-majority nation.

Judge Nenney Shushaidah presides over five trials a day and can hear up to 80 cases a week.

Malaysia practises a moderate form of Islam but conservative attitudes have been on the rise and the use of Sharia is growing as well. Under a dual-track legal system, thousands of Muslims use it to settle moral and family matters. Non-Muslims are required to follow secular laws that deal with the same matters.

She passes judgment on everything from financial cases to those involving the Sharia concept of Khalwat [unmarried Muslim couples being caught in compromising situations].

But her expertise lies in child custody and cases of polygamy – the Muslim concept of allowing men to marry up to four wives, which is legal in Malaysia.

Judge Shushaidah says there are many factors she considers before, for example, allowing a polygamous union.

“Every case is complex and different,” she explained. “You can’t generalise Islamic law and say it favours men and treats women badly… I want to correct that misconception.”

All those involved in a proposed polygamous marriage are required to be physically present in Judge Shushaidah’s court.

“I want to hear from everyone, not just [the] men,” she said. “I make it a point to speak with women to find out if they are on board with the arrangement. It is important that they agree to it because if I see any signs that say otherwise then I won’t grant permission.”

“I am female and I can understand most women would not like the idea. But it is allowed under Islam, and our Malaysian courts have enacted strict laws to govern this.”

“A man has to have very strong reasons for wanting another marriage,” she said.

“He must show he can look after the welfare of his first wife as well as the women who come after. He is not allowed to neglect the needs of anyone.”

Judge Shushaidah added that some wives can be supportive of the idea.

She recalls, for example, a case which involved a seriously ill woman who could no longer bear children.

“She loved her husband and wanted me to grant him permission to marry a second wife. So I did.”

    What is Sharia?

Sharia is Islam’s legal framework, derived from the Koran, Islam’s holy book; the Hadith, the sayings and conduct of the Prophet Muhammad; and fatwas, the rulings of Islamic scholars.

In Malaysia, it is applied to different degrees across the country’s states.

She defends her religion’s reputation for strict laws by arguing that it is capable of fairness.

But critics and rights groups argue Sharia is often misused.

“We have no objection to Sharia law that doesn’t discriminate against women, gay people or social and religious minorities,” Asia deputy director of Human Rights Watch Phil Robertson told BBC 100 Women.

“But the problem with Sharia law in Malaysia is that too often it does precisely that.

“Religion is never an acceptable reason to violate international human rights standards of equality and non-discrimination.”

For example rights activists were outraged by the recent caning of two Malaysian women convicted of attempting to have lesbian sex, and say Sharia law was misused in this case.

Judge Shushaidah would not address the case, but said: “Caning under Sharia law serves to educate offenders so as not to repeat the act again.”

Judge Shushaidah also argues that Sharia does not always rule in favour of men.

“Our law exists to protect women’s rights. It looks at their welfare and safeguards their livelihoods,” she said.

“Islam holds women in high regard and as judges, we must return to its teachings and maintain worthiness using Sharia.”

Her greatest concern lies with Muslim men bypassing strict Sharia court procedures by marrying overseas.

“He wouldn’t be bound by Malaysian law if he marries abroad. Some wives actually consent to this to protect their husbands but they don’t realise how it works against them,” she said. “Our Sharia laws are in place to protect the interests of women and hold men accountable.”

Women’s groups like Sisters in Islam highlighted a “severe shortage of female representation” in the courts and a “strong sense of patriarchy” in the overall system.

“The Sharia legal context in Malaysia not only selectively discriminates against women, it vilifies them as the cause of social immoralities,” said spokeswoman Majidah Hashim.

“State Islamic institutions… have done little to ensure women are accorded due justice. In fact, the recent prosecution of women under Sharia law clearly shows that their voices are alarmingly silenced and access to justice is worryingly stifled.”

This makes Judge Shushaidah’s appointment a particularly significant one.

“Back in my day, most Sharia judges were men who questioned the need for women in the practice,” said Judge Shushaidah.

“I never dreamed of becoming a judge,” she admitted. “As a lawyer, I didn’t know if I could take on such a senior role that dealt with complicated cases. And as a woman, I felt doubt and fear.”

“Sometimes I do feel uneasy. As a woman, I must feel, and I’d be lying if I said I felt nothing. But I am a judge and I have to make sure I am always clear and objective. So in my judgment, I try and address this. I make do with the best evidence I get in court.””

  10. Will Mrs Merkel apologise to her for her mad refugee policy ? The victim of the Islamic terrorist attack in Cologne is still in hospital — Will 14-year-old Lika ever be able to walk again ?+++
A month after the hostage-taking at Cologne Central Station, the 14-year-old victim of the arson attack is still struggling with the consequences. The 14-year-old Lika from Hennef suffered severe burns at the time. She was operated for the seventh time last week. Now, for the first time, the mother of the child has expressed herself in public. She said the 14-year-old had gone to Cologne with her girlfriend to take photos on the day of the attack. The two wanted to eat a burger at the main station and then to the banks of the Rhine. They noticed the suspect in the restaurant, the mother said. They then drew the attention of the employees of the fast food restaurant to the fact that the man spread liquids and had a pistol. Then everything went very quickly. While the girlfriend escaped from the restaurant unharmed, the 14-year-old Lika slipped and suffered severe burns.Lika has been in hospital for four weeks now. Her mother practically lives with her. Her father and brother also visit her daily. Lika will probably not be able to climb stairs so quickly. Therefore the newly bought house in Hennef has to be rebuilt.

2 injured as car rams into pedestrians in southern France, driver reportedly shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’
    https://www.rt.com/news/438430-car-hits-pedestrians-france/

A car hit pedestrians near a bar in Nimes overnight, slightly wounding two people, AFP reports. Witnesses reportedly heard the driver shouting “Allahu Akbar,” but there is no official confirmation of a terrorist attack so far.

A white Peugeot crashed into a security barrier set up for a popular bullfighting festival around 1am Friday (11pm GMT Thursday), according to AFP. The driver, reportedly a 32-year-old man, tried to flee but was arrested at the scene.

An investigation was opened for “attempted murder,” local prosecutor has announced. However, witnesses claim that the suspect was shouting “Allahu Akbar,” according to local media.

Prosecutor Eric Maurel said that the suspect was in a state “mental confusion” during his arrest and was later sent to hospital. French authorities did not elaborate on whether the incident is linked to terrorism.

The FBI’s 2018 designation of the self-confessed “western chauvinist group” as extremist has not been previously made public.

The Proud Boys was founded by the Vice Media co-founder Gavin McInnes. McInnes has insisted that his group is not white nationalist or “alt-right” but the Proud Boys have a history of misogyny and glorifying violence. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) lists them as a hate group.[…]

      • I read that, the problem is that the FBI is so use to taking orders from the left and letting the SPLC decide who is a hate group you can’t trust what they are saying. Which is a win win for the left, some people will believe the report that the Proud Boys are a hate group and some will distrust Law Enforcement even more.

  14. As Immigrant Farmworkers Become More Scarce, Robots Replace Humans

SALINAS, Calif. — As a boy, Abel Montoya remembers his father arriving home from the lettuce fields each evening, the picture of exhaustion, mud caked knee-high on his trousers. “Dad wanted me to stay away from manual labor. He was keen for me to stick to the books,” Mr. Montoya said. So he did, and went to college.

Yet Mr. Montoya, a 28-year-old immigrant’s son, recently took a job at a lettuce-packing facility, where it is wet, loud, freezing — and much of the work is physically taxing, even mind-numbing.

Now, though, he can delegate some of the worst work to robots.

Mr. Montoya is among a new generation of farmworkers here at Taylor Farms, one of the world’s largest producers and sellers of fresh-cut vegetables, which recently unveiled a fleet of robots designed to replace humans — one of the agriculture industry’s latest answers to a diminishing supply of immigrant labor.

The smart machines can assemble 60 to 80 salad bags a minute, double the output of a worker.

Hundreds of people fleeing violence from Central America were hit with punches, stones, and coffee. Far from being the danger, police are protecting them from what’s outside.

TIJUANA, Mexico—A dowsing with hot coffee, a sucker punch, angry threats, peltings with sticks and stones.

Migrants who have journeyed from Central America to this border city seeking refuge from violence back home have encountered unexpected violence and harassment here. More than 3,000 migrants have arrived in Tijuana since Wednesday—a rate of arrival that city officials say is without precedent in the history of the city known as the “City of Migrants.” The migrants formed part of the Central American caravan seeking political asylum in the U.S.

The caravan’s highly publicized arrival has generated a nationalist backlash from a segment of residents here that views the migrants as a threat to public safety, and as unwanted competition for jobs and public services.

It has led to a kind of siege mentality inside the emergency shelter where they have taken refuge.

HOUSTON (AP) — A federal judge barred the Trump administration from refusing asylum to immigrants who cross the southern border illegally.

As the first of several caravans of migrants have started arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, Trump said an asylum ban was necessary to stop what he’s attacked as a national security threat.

  17. Migrant caravan at US border is harboring more than 500 criminals, Homeland Security claims

More than 500 criminals are traveling with the migrant caravan that’s massed on the other side of a San Diego border crossing, homeland security officials said Monday afternoon.

The revelation was made during a conference call with reporters, with officials asserting that “most of the caravan members are not women and children”. They claimed the group is mostly made up of single adult or teen males and that the women and children have been pushed to the front of the line in a bid to garner sympathetic media coverage.

“All legal options are on the table and we have been negotiating with all our partners in central America with ways to deal with the caravan,” one official said when asked about reports that the U.S. government is planning to make asylum-seekers remain on the Mexican side of the border while their claims are being reviewed.

Homeland Security officials say there are currently 6,000 people in Tijuana waiting to be processed at the San Ysidro border crossing, with more on the way.

  18. Bokhari: Rise of the Western Dissidents

We’re used to Russian dissidents, Chinese dissidents, Iranian dissidents, and Saudi Arabian dissidents. But those who rightly believe the west is superior to authoritarian regimes must now contend with a troubling trend — the rise of the western dissident.

Chief among them is Julian Assange, who for a half-decade has been forced to live in the tiny Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has claimed political asylum since 2011. Assange claimed that he would be extradited to the U.S. to face charges over his work at WikiLeaks if he left the embassy, and was routinely mocked as paranoid for doing so.

This week, we learned that Assange was right and his critics were wrong. Thanks to a clerical error by the U.S. attorney’s office in Alexandria, Virginia, reporters were able to confirm the existence of sealed criminal charges against the WikiLeaks founder.

The Red Chinese have been using this tactic for decades and are not about to give up that advantage.

No modern totalitarian government wants to give up their ability to interfere in the economy, the fact that in hte long run thier interference causes messes like Venezuela is blamed on hte lack of competence in the leaders at the time the economies crash. The left is so arrogant that they think they can make communism work despite the fact no one has ever been able to make it work. As an example even left wing economists are admitting that FDRs big government policies caused the Great Depression to last years longer then it should have.

  20. Venezuela: Maduro Regimes Continues Military Purge as Arrests Reach Record High

Politically motivated arrests of soldiers and military personnel in Venezuela reached an all-time high in 2018, according to a report from grassroots Venezuelan site Crónica Uno published Monday.

According to the latest figures, 197 members of the military are facing charges on crimes such as incitement to rebellion, treason to the fatherland, and breach of military etiquette, charges meant to target any dissent within the ranks of dictator Nicolás Maduro’s military. The number now surpasses that arrested former Venezuelan dictators Hugo Chávez and Marcos Pérez Jiménez.

As part of their effort to guarantee loyalty, the regime recently began purging high-rankings members of the military who they suspect of disloyalty. In March, Maduro issued a presidential decree announcing that 24 soldiers had been demoted or dismissed from the military over their supposed attempts “to damage the Republic by violent means.”

  21. Russia ‘will send missiles to Cuba’ as US withdrawal from nuclear treaty is ‘way to WAR’

VLADIMIR Putin will be forced to deploy missiles to Cuba if the United States sent nuclear weapons to European countries, a former Russian general has said.

Retired Russian lieutenant-general Evgeny Buzhinskiy said several landmark nuclear disarmament treaties between Moscow and Washington are on the “verge of collapsing”.

He said the administrations of successive US presidents have “ruined” the “whole construction of nuclear arms stability”, including Donald Trump, who has threatened to pull out of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

Buzhinskiy, chairman of Moscow-based think tank PIR Center, believes US nuclear missile build-up will resume in Europe if Trump unilaterally withdraws from the INF treaty.

In response the Russian president, Buzhinskiy said, will have no option but to deploy nuclear-tipped missiles to Cuba, whose ruling Communist Party retains close diplomatic ties with the Kremlin.

Buzhinskiy, who served with the Russian army for 16 years, said tit-for-tat missile deployments could result in a second Cuban Missile Crisis in the “worst case scenario”.

  22. Trump administration hawks putting US on course for war with Iran, report warns

‘Given the risks of President Trump and his administration fully collapsing the JCPOA and instigating war with Iran, the work needs to begin now in order to rein in the White House and prevent a disastrous war

Donald Trump has surrounded himself with hardliners in his administration who have openly called for bombing Iran and carrying out regime change, says a new report, which also warns of the possibility of a military confrontation being engineered through provocative action.

Senior members of the US administration, which has pulled out of the nuclear deal with Tehran unilaterally, have vocalised its desire to destroy the agreement and cripple the Iranian economy in the process, the document prepared by the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) points out.

The report holds, however, that there is a chance of averting a violent scenario following the American midterm elections, which have given the Democrats control of the House of Representatives. There are Republicans as well as Democrats who are wary of the hawkish approach of some of Mr Trump’s advisers, and a bipartisan approach may pave the way for the deal to be saved and even for Washington to rejoin it in the future.

  23. France: ‘Yellow vests’ set toll booths on fire as fuel protests continue

The ‘yellow vests’ protests against fuel prices in France continued as demonstrators set alight toll booths on the A10 Highway in Virsac, close to Bordeaux, on Tuesday night.

Toll booths, gates and lights were heavily damaged during Tuesday’s action, with the A10 currently blocked.

The ‘Yellow vests’ are protesting against diesel and petrol price rises, which are due to come into force in January, and are part of French President Macron’s bid to wean France off fossil fuels.

  25. Attacker shouting ‘Allahu akbar’ stabs Belgian policeman

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – An attacker shouting “Allahu akbar” stabbed a Belgian policeman several times in the neck in central Brussels on Tuesday, prosecutors said.

The assailant, who wielded two kitchen knives during the incident outside the city’s main police station, was then shot and wounded by two police officers, they said in a statement.

The man is under arrest and in critical condition in hospital. The policeman is also in hospital but did not suffer life-threatening injuries in the attack at around 5.30 a.m. (0430 GMT).

“We have not yet establish the subject’s motives,” the city prosecutors said. “Several witnesses heard him shout ‘Allahu akbar’ (God is greatest). The investigation will establish whether this is a terrorist act.”

The assailant had a criminal record of stealing and violence. He was jailed in 2014 for attempted murder and for carrying an illegal weapon but was released last month.

Migrant caravan situation being transformed at border as Mexicans protest, U.S. deters
    By J.E. Dyer November 20, 2018

There is no predicting how this will go in the days ahead. But with as many as 10,000 people reportedly making their way now from Central America, the outlines of the situation, and its tensions, are likely to sharpen in key ways, if they blur in others.

Whatever the organizers of the migrant caravans thought would happen, it probably isn’t going to. The organizers are not in the driver’s seat now.

From the beginning, information about the caravans has indicated that they are organized by radical open-borders activists with ties to socialist political bosses in Central America, and probably funding from “philanthropists” like George Soros. Support from meddling antagonists of the U.S. like Russia and Iran is not out of the question.

None of that means that there aren’t people in the caravans who simply want to get to the United States in order to find jobs or enjoy public benefits. It does mean that the caravans would not be organized as they are, and when they are, without the outside patronage and political impetus.

  27. November 19 2018 UAE prosecutors accuse woman of butchering and cooking lover into machboos
    https://www.thenational.ae/uae/courts/uae-prosecutors-accuse-woman-of-butchering-and-cooking-lover-into-machboos-1.793566

Officers would not reveal how she killed him but said she served his remains as machboos — a traditional Gulf dish of rice and meat similar to biryani — to some workers.

The crime was discovered after the man’s brother, an Ajman resident, reported his sibling was missing to Al Ain Police.

Police said the brother visited the couple’s home in Al Ain to ask if the accused knew of his sibling’s whereabouts.

He said she denied knowing where he was and claimed to have kicked him out of their home. The killing took place three months ago but only came to light in recent days.

On November 13, reports on the missing man surfaced on Moroccan media quoting his brother, who said police found a human tooth inside the woman’s blender.

After DNA tests confirmed the tooth belonged to the man, the woman was arrested.

During questioning, the woman, whose age was not disclosed by police, denied any involvement but then admitted to killing the man during a moment of ‘insanity’. She told police she wanted revenge for being dumped after seven years of financially providing for him. After cutting up his body, she asked a friend to help her dispose of the remains.

The woman is said to have confessed that she used a blender to mince her former partner’s flesh then cooked it with machboos, before serving it to a group of Pakistani workers who lived nearby.

  28. Caravan of ‘Migrants’ – a Crisis Decades in the Making
America is on the edge of forfeiting its sovereignty and security.
    November 20, 2018
    Michael Cutler

Thousands of aspiring illegal aliens have marched their way up through Central America and Mexico and are closing in on the U.S./Mexican border. Some of these individuals have reportedly split off from the caravan and have managed to enter the United States without inspection.

They have been encouraged to participate in this massive caravan by our own political “leaders” from both parties. Think about how frequently politicians from both particles have stated that since we cannot deport the millions of illegal aliens who are present in the United States, all we can do is to find a way to “get them out of the shadows” and provide them with lawful status. The Democrats insist on providing millions of illegal aliens with U.S. citizenship while the supposedly “tough” Republicans state that they will “only” provide them with lawful status and permission to work.

So now the debate is over whether or not to provide illegal aliens with citizenship! That is one hell of an example of “bait and switch” foisted on America by the Democrats and the Republicans who are colluding with each other.

Meanwhile a growing list of “Sanctuary Cities” and “Sanctuary States” promise to harbor and shield them from detection by ICE and even permit them to get driver’s licenses while illegal alien students are being offered incentives such as in-state tuition.

Newsweek writer: ‘Almost every single person I’ve ever heard of with an AR-15 has been a mass murderer’

If you read the headline to this piece, you know what it’s about.

And yes, if you never touch a gun yourself and only hear about them on the news when there’s a mass shooting, you might very well be deluded into thinking all AR-15 owners are mass murderers.

It’s not often that CNN reports on a man who goes to the range, fires his legally owned AR-15, and goes home and locks it in a gun safe.

We’re thinking Newsweek’s Nina Burleigh needs to get out more and hear from some law-abiding AR-15 owners.

  31. The Messages Behind the Iranian Missile Strike in Iraqi Kurdistan

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: A missile strike on September 8 in Iraqi Kurdistan conducted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran killed 18, including the father of this author, and injured another 40. Though Tehran claims the strike was retaliation for an attack on a military post that had been claimed by an armed Kurdish group, the threat posed by the Iranian Kurds to the Islamist regime is not sufficient to justify such a violent attack. The strike was likely a message intended not only for the Iranian Kurds, but for the Saudis, the Americans, and the Israelis as well.

On September 8, 2018, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps launched a barrage of missiles into Iraqi Kurdistan, targeting the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDP-I) and an adjacent refugee camp. The strike killed 18 people and wounded 40 more. Tehran justified the strike as retaliation for an attack on a military post that had taken place on July 21. That attack was claimed by the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), one of several armed Kurdish groups.

The Iranian Kurds, a historically important group, are very politically aware. They have long struggled for their civic and national rights, which successive Iranian regimes have consistently denied them throughout their history. In 1979, the newly installed revolutionary regime brutally refused their demands, with Ayatollah Khomeini declaring a “holy war” on the Kurds.

  32. The EU’s Dangerous New Confidence Game

    by Douglas Murray
    November 20, 2018 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13262/eu-confidence-game

At the start of this decade, a minor story occurred that set the scene for the years that have followed. In 2010, a Saudi lawyer named Faisal Yamani wrote to the Danish newspapers that had published cartoons of Islam’s prophet, Mohammed. Claiming to act on behalf of 95,000 descendants of Mohammed, the Saudi lawyer said that the cartoons were defamatory and that legal proceedings would thereby begin.

However, everything about the supposed legal claim reeked. How had Mr Yamani located all these descendants? How had he come up with exactly 95,000 of them? And how could you claim that a statement about somebody who died 1,400 years ago was “defamatory”? Legally, one cannot “defame” the dead.

Everything about the claim was laughable Yet it had its desired effect. At least one Danish paper — Politiken — swiftly issued an apology for republishing the cartoons. So Mr Yamani got what he wanted. He had (one might suggest) conjured up a set of alleged victims and cobbled together an alleged offence, but no matter, because he also got a European newspaper to fold in no seconds flat. It was an interesting probe of the European system of justice — and a good example of submission. And a fine scene-setting precedent for the decade that has followed.

  33. Turkey and US: Conflict Contained, Not Resolved

    by Burak Bekdil
    November 20, 2018 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13328/turkey-us-conflict-contained

Only three months ago Turkey and its NATO ally the United States had too many issues about which to disagree: They had major divergences over Syria; they had different views on Turkey’s plans to deploy the Russian-made S-400 air defense system on NATO soil; they had mutual sanctions on top government officials due to Turkey’s refusal to free Andrew Brunson, an American evangelical Christian pastor living in Turkey who faced bogus charges of terrorism and espionage; they had a potential U.S. decision to block delivery to Turkey of arms systems, including the F-35 stealth fighter; they had potential U.S. sanctions on a Turkish public bank; the U.S. had doubled tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminium; a Turkish boycott on U.S. electronics; major differences over Syrian Kurds; and Turkey’s persistent demands for the extradition of Fethullah Gülen, a Muslim cleric who is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an’s political nemesis, living in self-exile in Pennsylvania.

Three months later, there is not much left of the anti-American euphoria in Turkey. Erdo?an has already stopped accusing the U.S. of waging economic warfare against Turkey. For his part, President Donald Trump has said, “We’re having a very good moment with Turkey … He [Erdo?an] is a friend of mine. He’s a strong man, he’s tough man, and he’s a smart man.”

What has changed so radically in three months to lift up the relationship from its worst tensions in decades to such warmth? Not much.
