  1. “Many in the West were shocked to learn that, in recently ruling that criticism of Muhammad is tantamount to incitement to hatred and thus not protected free speech, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had effectively adopted Islamic Sharia’s ban on free speech — a formerly prized and zealously guarded Western right.

The greater shock, however, is not that the ECHR ruled in compliance with Sharia, but that many Western nations intentionally uphold Sharia stipulations that contradict one-time Western values — even as most of their citizenry have no clue.

Take, for instance, a Canadian law which — in accordance with Sharia — essentially banned the adoption of children from Muslim nations.

As last week’s CBC report explained, back in 2013 “Canada banned adoptions from Pakistan without warning”:”

  2. Italy Vows to Do ‘Everything Possible’ for Pakistani Woman in Blasphemy Case (sputniknews, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201811071069582140-salvini-help-asia-bibi/

“The family of Asia Bibi, who faced blasphemy charges in Pakistan carrying a death sentence, is now seeking asylum in a Western country after her acquittal sparked outrage among hardline Muslims. Her husband has asked Theresa May to give their family asylum, while their lawyer sought refuge in the Netherlands.

Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Salvini noted that Italy was working “discretely” with other Western countries on the case of Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman acquitted in a blasphemy case.

“It is not permissible that in 2018 someone can risk losing their life for a hypothesis of blasphemy,” Salvini told Italian radio station RTL 102.5 on Tuesday.

“I will do everything humanly possible to ensure a future for this girl,” he later pledged on Facebook.

It separately emerged that Asia Bibi’s lawyer, Saiful Malook, is waiting for an asylum offer from the Netherlands, where he fled last week. The Dutch news outlet NU.nl quoted Malook as saying that he would return to Pakistan “to be killed” if the Netherlands doesn’t grant him asylum.

In late October, Pakistan’s Supreme Court overturned an 8-year-old death sentence for Bibi, a mother of five who was convicted of blasphemy after a row with Muslim neighbors, who said that she insulted Prophet Muhammad by drinking water from a common glass as she was not a Muslim.

The acquittal has provoked mass demonstrations in Pakistan, with protesters demanding that the authorities reverse the decision in favor of the death penalty, and take action against the judges who ordered the woman’s release. Asia Bibi has faced death threats, and several Western countries, including France and Spain, have offered her asylum.”

    • Trying to find the silver lining in this very dark cloud this is going to show a lot of people just how vindictive and petty the Dems are, they are going to continue to resist and with Pelosi as Speaker of the House and the other radical leftists as committee heads they will investigate everything including what type of toilet paper Trump uses. This and their refusal to stop the invasion in the South will make 2020 a much easier win.

The bad news is the Dems doing all the can to destroy the US.

Trump has said that if the Dems go after him for everything including breathing he will start an investigation into who in the Senate keeps leaking classified info to the Propaganda Media.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6362075/Anti-Islamic-terror-suspect-plotted-bomb-mosque-Manchester-Arena-victim.html

“An ‘anti-Islamic’ terror suspect was plotting to blow up a mosque to avenge the killing of an eight-year-old girl in the Manchester Arena bombing, a court has heard.

Steven Bishop, 40, is accused of tampering with fireworks in a bid to create a bomb which he aimed to set off with a detonator he bought on the dark web.

It is believed the plot was aimed at getting revenge for the death of Saffie Roussos, the youngest of the 22 killed in the IS bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in 2017.

Bishop, from Thornton Heath, south London, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and is set to next appear at the Old Bailey.

He is expected to deny the charge of preparing for a terrorism act.

Saffie, from Leyland, Lancashire, had attended the concert on May 22, 2017, with her mother Lisa, 48, and her sister Ashlee Bromwich, 24.

She was killed when suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated his device. Her mother and sister both suffered serious injuries.

  5. Hungary Begins National Family Consultation To Combat ‘Population Replacement’ (breitbart, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/11/07/hungary-begins-national-family-consultation-to-combat-population-replacement/

“The Hungarian government began a new national survey this week to tackle the problem of the country’s declining population without resorting to a policy of mass migration.

The new national survey which bears the title “Defence of Families,” contains ten questions sent to around eight million different households across the country and looks to see what Hungarians think of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s pro-family policies, AFP reports.

State secretary Katalin Novak commented on the launch of the survey, saying: “Europe is the continent of empty cradles, there aren’t enough children.”

“In spite of the significant mass migration toward Europe, Hungary wants to rely on its internal resources,” Novak said and added, “we see the future in Hungarian children,… Hungary does not want immigration or population replacement.”

Breitbart London reported in November on the impact these policies are already having on Hungary. According to official government statistics, since the second Orban government came to power in 2010 divorce has fallen by a fifth, and marriage has increased by over 40 percent.

Even the number of abortions has fallen by a third, even without the Hungarian government introducing any policies to restrict access to them — instead, support for families and foster carers has been boosted, removing some incentives to kill unborn children.

Population replacement, or “replacement migration” a term used by the United Nations, seeks to use mass migration in order to prop up the birthrates of countries and fill needed labour shortages.

While some have argued for mass migration as a way to both counter declining populations and prop up welfare states, others like Mr Orban and populist Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini have rejected mass migration, opting to promote larger families instead.

In September, Salvini made his case clear, saying: “I believe that I’m in government in order to see that our young people have the number of children that they used to a few years ago, and not to transplant the best of Africa’s youth to Europe.”

He later proposed a policy in which Italians could receive farmland from the state for having at least three children to both grow the population and revitalise rural areas of the country.

The current national survey comes after another national survey that asked Hungarian voters their opinion on the influence of pro-mass migration left-wing billionaire George Soros, who recently relocated his Open Society foundation from Budapest to Berlin following the implementation of laws targetting his NGO network.”

  6. E.U. Official: ‘More Honest’ to Scrap ‘Unrealistic’ Turkey Membership (breitbart, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/middle-east/2018/11/06/e-u-official-more-honest-to-scrap-unrealistic-turkey-membership/

“The official overseeing the European Union’s future enlargement says that, in the long term, it would be “more honest” for the bloc to give up talks on membership for Turkey.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn was quoted Tuesday as telling German daily Die Welt: “I think that, in the long term, it would be more honest for Turkey and the EU to go down new roads and end the accession talks.”

Hahn added that “Turkish membership in the European Union is not realistic in the foreseeable future.” He argued that sticking to the talks has “blocked the path to a realistic, strategic partnership.”

Turkey started its EU accession negotiations in 2005 but the talks are stalled amid concerns over Turkey’s political situation, with some nations opposing membership.”

    • Th Enlargement Commissioner (ooh er) is right of course, membership won’t happen, it’s a public secret.
But I fear Erdogan will milk this as much as he can, a good excuse for him to flush the whole refugee deal for example.

  7. Danes arrest 3 Iranian activists accused of praising attack (abcnews, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/danes-arrest-iranian-activists-accused-praising-attack-59026166

“Danish police say three members of an Iranian opposition group have been arrested on suspicion of having praised those behind a Sept. 22 terror attack in Iran that killed at least 25 people.

Police spokesman Bjoerke Kierkegaard says that violates Danish laws and they could face fines or up to two years in prison.

Kierkegaard said Wednesday that all three are members of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz that Tehran has blamed for the deadly attack in the Iranian city of Ahvaz. However, ASMLA has condemned the violence and says it was not involved.

Danish authorities have said that a police operation last month that briefly cut off Copenhagen from the rest of Denmark stemmed from an alleged Iranian plot to kill an ASMLA activist.”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/pakistani-army-officer-dies-defuse-roadside-bomb-59025253

“The Pakistani army says an officer died while trying to defuse a roadside bomb found during a sweep in the country’s northwestern tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.

Wednesday’s military statement says the explosion in the Mohmad Gat area of Mohmand tribal region killed Capt. Zargham Fareed and seriously wounded another soldier. It wasn’t immediately clear when the explosion took place.

Pakistan’s tribal regions along the Afghan border have in the past served as sanctuaries for Islamic militants. The army has carried out several operations there and says it largely routed the militants who escaped across the border.

The militants sporadically strike back or plant bombs and mines along the mountainous roads.”

  9. Taliban attack kills 8 policemen in western Afghanistan (abcnews, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/taliban-attacks-kill-police-western-farah-province-59019825

“An Afghan official says the Taliban killed eight policemen and wounded three in an attack on two checkpoints in western Farah province.

A member of the provincial council, Dadullah Qani, says the attack on Tuesday night took place on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Farah, and triggered an hourslong battle in which the Taliban were beaten back.

The Taliban didn’t immediately comment the attack.

On Monday, the insurgents attacked a border base in Pusht Koh in Farah killed 20 Afghan troops while 20 others were abducted.

A resurgent Taliban now hold nearly half of Afghanistan and carry out near-daily attacks on Afghan security forces, inflicting heavy casualties. The Taliban view the U.S.-backed government in Kabul as a dysfunctional Western puppet and have refused repeated offers to negotiate with it.”

      (Excerpt)
“ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) says the so-called Islamic State (IS) is using Turkey as a strategic base to reorganize, posing a threat to the security of Europe.

In a report published on Monday, the AIVD said that since the start of the Syrian conflict, Turkey “was for a long time a springboard for an unprecedented number of foreign fighters who traveled to Syria from all over the world.”

“IS (and also al Qaida) use Turkey as a strategic base,” the report read. “From here, IS can recover, reorganize, and further shape the underground struggle in the region.”

The AIVD also said the extremist group was able to exploit “the relative peace in Turkey to forge plans for its still present [again] international ambitions.”

“Waqar Parvez gouged his victim’s arm with the weapon and wounded him on the head when violence flared in a busy shop at 10.15pm on August 28 last year.

Parvez, 35, of Higher Downs, Fairweather Green, Bradford, was jailed for six years yesterday after pleading guilty to wounding Sufyan Saleem with intent to do him grievous bodily harm and possession of a hammer as an offensive weapon.

Prosecutor Stephen Wood said Parvez set about Mr Saleem in a ferocious attack in the Bismillah Mini Mart in Upper Woodlands Road, just of Toller Lane, Bradford.

Parvez took the hammer multi-tool from his car after an argument broke out in the store between his wife and Mr Saleem.

The court heard that Mr Saleem’s relatives had taken it badly when Parvez’s wife married him for love instead of choosing the bridegroom they had lined up for her.

Parvez blamed members of her extended family for abducting, imprisoning and beating him more than ten years ago, leaving him with injuries that laid him up for six months…”

  12. Next up? Starting gun sounds on 2020 White House race

Tuesday’s elections sounded the starting gun for a long, crowded, expensive and no doubt dramatic race for the presidency.

Democrats, riding a wave of momentum from their gains in the U.S. House of Representatives, enter the presidential cycle without a clear front-runner for the first time since the start of the 2004 campaign.

More than two dozen possible contenders, including former Vice President Joe Biden and a gaggle of senators, governors, mayors and business leaders, have been jockeying for months to line up donors and evaluate their shot at the party’s nomination.

Awaiting the winner will almost certainly be President Donald Trump, a Republican whose approval ratings have been mostly stuck below 50 percent since he took office but whose popularity within his party will make any potential challenge from another Republican the longest of longshots.

Trump loomed over Tuesday’s midterm elections, fueling turnout among Democrats eager to reject him and driving many Republican candidates to pledge support for him or else face a backlash from their conservative base.

  13. Officials: Ronald Reagan LSD probe bigger than you think, 14 nuke sailors snagged

Fourteen sailors from the nuclear reactor department of the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan face disciplinary action in connection to LSD abuse, Navy officials confirmed this week.

Two sailors are already heading to court-martial for using, possessing and distributing the hallucinogenic drug, while three are waiting to see whether they will be charged as well, according to 7th Fleet spokesman Lt. Joe Keiley.

Another 10 sailors with the Japan-based ship were administratively disciplined on LSD-related charges, Keiley said.

A 15th sailor was also disciplined, but that person was not assigned to the carrier’s reactor department.

Keiley said the 14 reactor sailors charged or facing potential charges came from a department with more than 400 personnel.

  14. France’s Macron pushes for ‘true European army’

rench President Emmanuel Macron has warned that Europeans cannot be protected without a “true, European army”, as he marks the centenary of the World War One Armistice.

On a visit to the former Western Front in Verdun, he said Russia had shown it could be a threat and Europe had to be able “to defend itself better alone”.

Russia’s president will be among world leaders marking the Armistice in Paris.

Mr Macron has already proposed a joint intervention force for crisis missions.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel backed the idea of an intervention force in June, but said it would have to be part of “the structure of defence co-operation”.

The UK, while in favour of such a joint force, is opposed to a European army, because of the potential risk of creating a parallel structure to Nato.

  15. Superbugs to ‘kill millions’ by 2050 unless countries act

    PARIS (AFP) –

Millions of people in Europe, North America and Australia will die from superbug infections unless countries prioritise fighting the growing threat posed by bacteria immune to most known drugs, experts predicted Wednesday.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) warned of “disastrous consequences” for public healthcare and spending unless basic hospital hygiene is boosted and unnecessary antibiotic use slashed.

Drug-resistant bacteria killed more than 33,000 people in Europe in 2015, according to new research published separately this week.

In a landmark report, the OECD said 2.4 million people could die from superbugs by 2050 and said the cost of treating such infections would balloon to an average of $3.5 billion (three billion euros) a year in each country included in its analysis.

Michele Cecchini, lead on public health at the OECD, told AFP that countries were already spending an average of 10 percent of their healthcare budgets on treating antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) bugs.

“AMR costs more than the flu, more than HIV, more than tuberculosis. And it will cost even more if countries don’t put into place actions to tackle this problem,” he said.

The newest batch of ACT scores shows troubling long-term declines in performance, with students’ math achievement reaching a 20-year low, according to results released Wednesday.

The average math score for the graduating class of 2018 was 20.5, marking a steady decline from 20.9 five years ago, and virtually no progress since 1998, when it was 20.6. Each of the four sections of the college-entrance exam is graded on a 36-point scale.

“We’re at a very dangerous point. And if we do nothing, it will keep on declining,” ACT’s chief executive officer, Marten Roorda, said in an interview.

  20. Italy’s Senate passes tough anti-migrant decree

The Italian Senate has cleared the way for Interior Minister Matteo Salvini’s tough anti-migrant decree to become law following a confidence vote.

The populist government of Salvini’s League and Luigi Di Maio’s anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) won the vote with 163 senators for, 59 against and 19 abstentions, including five M5S members opposed to the stringent decree.

The lower house of parliament now has until the end of November to approve the decree, which the coalition first put forward in September, and makes it easier to expel migrants and strip them of Italian citizenship.

The government opted for a confidence vote to get the decree through the senate after M5S members tabled a slew of amendments.

It should now have no problem passing the lower house given the coalition’s majority.

A delighted Salvini tweeted that it was a “historic day” after the vote.

The decree will put an end to two-year “humanitarian protection” residency permits — a lower level of asylum status based on Italian rather than international law — that were awarded to 25 percent of asylum seekers last year.

Instead, residency permits will be awarded under stricter conditions such as a one-year “special protection” status or a six-month “natural disaster in country of origin” status.

Of the 81,500 decisions handed down by Italian authorities in 2017, eight percent were granted asylum, eight percent subsidiary protection and a quarter humanitarian protection.

The remainder were rejected. If appeals fail, they face the prospect of being classed as economic migrants who must return home.

Those seeking refugee status will also now have their requests suspended if they are considered “socially dangerous or convicted in the first instance” of crimes, while their appeals are ongoing.

They will in future be housed in bigger reception centres, while only minors and those with recognised refugee status will be housed in different parts of the country in order to facilitate integration.

    ‘Seriously concerned’

The Italian Refugee Council said it was “seriously concerned” by the new law.

“The abolition of humanitarian protection will put thousands of people outside the law and only a very few can be repatriated,” it said in a statement.

A new procedure to fast-track the expulsion of “dangerous” asylum seekers will also be implemented.

The United Nations refugee agency said ahead of the vote that some of the decree’s provisions “do not provide adequate guarantees, especially for the vulnerable or those with particular needs such as victims of abuse or torture”.

“Lawmakers still have time to do the right thing.”

There are currently around 146,000 migrants held in reception centres, down from 183,000 at the end of 2017.

The Italian mayors’ association has railed against the change, saying that having hundreds of unemployed migrants in reception centres can have a negative impact on small communities.

The new law also lets local police have Taser stun guns, and makes it easier to evict squatters by getting rid of the obligation of finding provisional housing for the most vulnerable.

One of the most controversial measures in the bill provides for stripping immigrants of their Italian nationality if they are convicted of “terrorism”.

“We must welcome those who are fleeing war, but there is no place for economic migrants,” Salvini said. “Whoever flees a war is my brother, but whoever comes here to sell drugs and create disorder must go home.”

Salvini, who is also deputy prime minister, has taken a hard line on immigration since the coalition came to power in June, refusing to allow several ships carrying migrants rescued in the Mediterranean to dock at Italian ports.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said that an Italian bill on security and immigration will become law very soon, speaking at a press conference in Rome on Wednesday, after the bill was approved by the Italian Senate.

  21. 12 Examples That Show That America Is Far More Messed Up Than When You Were A Kid

What in the world has happened to our country? Most of us have very fond memories from when we were younger, and it is true that often our memories of “the good old days” can leave out the bad parts. None of us are perfect individually, and America has certainly never been without major problems as a nation. But have we ever witnessed the level of social decay that we are seeing around the country today? We are like a divorced, bloated, drug-addicted middle age man that has seen his life completely fall apart, and it would be nice to believe that we have hit rock bottom, but the truth is that we just keep on sinking even lower. The following are 12 examples that show that America is far more messed up than when you were a kid…

“The father of 11-year-old Stockholm terror victim Ebba Åkerlund has claimed that, on multiple occasions, what he identified as an illegal immigrant has vandalised the gravesite of his deceased daughter.

Stefan Åkerlund made the claims on his Facebook account Sunday saying that the illegal migrant, who he said has been ordered to leave Sweden, has been attacking other graves in the cemetery for over a year.

“Since late March, he’s damaged Isabell’s tomb at Ebba’s cemetery so badly that her mother had to replace the headstone. About six weeks ago, Olof Palme’s headstone was totally destroyed by [candle wax] that won’t come off. Ebba’s tomb has been desecrated over 30 times,” he wrote.

Åkerlund even claimed that he had witnessed the man vandalising his daughter’s grave, saying, “I personally caught him in the act of desecration, when he was pouring [candle wax] on Ebba’s grave; the police released him after only one hour in custody,” and added, “That’s what my nightly visits to the graveyard were worth.”

The migrant, who was not identified, is alleged by Mr Åkerlund to have been given a prior deportation order and is supposed to be banned from the country until 2019 but still remains in Sweden.

“How can a person condemned to expulsion and barred from Sweden until 2019-02-27 have never even left the country in the first place?” he said.

“What happened to the wonderful Sweden that I once grew up in?” Åkerlund wrote, and slammed the government saying that his daughter had to pay the price as “law & order does not work in this country.”…”

  25. Study: London Kids Most Likely to Get Stabbed Leaving School (breitbart, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/11/07/study-london-kids-most-likely-get-stabbed-leaving-school/

“London children are most at risk of being stabbed as they leave school, new research indicates, prompting calls for new measures to protect youngsters.

A study found that children were more vulnerable to knife attacks between 4 pm and 6 pm, noting a “significant peak,” and stabbings involving young victims are more likely to occur close to their home or school.

Stabbings during this two-hour window, when children leave the school gates, accounted for 22 per cent of all child stabbings, compared with 11 per cent of young adult stabbings.

Researchers from Queen Mary University of London, Barts Health NHS Trust, and two ambulance services used data from 1,824 people under the age of 25 who had been treated for a stab wound at a London trauma centre over an 11-year period.

Of these, 172 were children, 861 were aged between 16 and 19, and 791 were aged between 20 and 24.

Almost three-quarters (71 per cent) were from poorer neighbourhoods, whilst just 1 per cent were from wealthier areas.

The time and location of stabbings were collated from ambulance service data as well as information from the hospital trauma registry.

Between 2004 and 2014, the annual number of presentations for “assault resulting in penetrating trauma” increased by an average of 25 per cent each year.

The results tally with recent data from the Office for National Statistics, showing for the year to June 2018, police in London recorded 14,987 knife crimes – representing a 15 per cent rise in just 12 months.

This year alone in the capital there have been 119 murders, more than in the whole of last year, and 74 of which were stabbings.

Karim Brohi, Professor of Trauma Sciences at Queen Mary’s Blizard Institute and Consultant Trauma Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust, commented:

“This work shows that children and young people in London are at risk simply due to where they live and go to school.

Dr Paul Vulliamy, Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary’s Centre for Trauma Sciences, added:

“We have demonstrated that there are age-specific epidemiological patterns of stabbings among young people, providing evidence for schools and children as specific targets for violence reduction strategies.

“We can reduce knife violence and unnecessary child deaths, but need long term evidence-based interventions in education, policing, the community and at home.””

  26. Slovenia to Arm Border Guards as Migrants Attempt to Break Through the Balkans (breitbart, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/11/07/slovenia-arm-border-guards-migrants-attempt-break-through-balkans/

“The Slovenian government has taken new measures to increase border security as an estimated 20,000 migrants attempt to break out of the Balkans into Central Europe.
The Slovenian government has further fortified their border with Croatia, issuing police officers with firearms to control the flow of migrants trying to get through both Croatia and then Slovenia to western Europe, Il Giornale reports.

The Slovenian operations on the Croatian border have not been without controversy, especially after Slovenian media filmed police forcing migrants, including some women and children, back into Croatia at gunpoint.

The action comes as part of a joint cooperation between the two countries which has seen 635 missions featuring mixed forces from the two countries, half of which occurred on Slovenian territory and a half in Croatia, though exact numbers of migrants that have been caught in the patrols are unknown.

For several months, the number of migrants in the Balkans has grown with some fearing that a large number will attempt to break through the border of Bosnia into Croatia, something that occurred in June when 200 or so migrants, some shouting “Allah hu Akbar,” stormed the border.

Earlier this week, Austrian intelligence warned that up to 20,000 migrants were looking to cross the Bosnian-Croatian border in the very near future with a source saying, “Ninety-five per cent of these migrants who are trying to break through are young men, almost all of whom are armed with knives. A border policeman has already been stabbed.”

“The majority come from Pakistan but there are also many Iranians, Algerians and Moroccans,” the source added.

While the majority of migrant traffic at the height of the migrant crisis in 2015 came along the Balkan route, the path to Europe for the majority of migrants since has been across the Mediterranean following the closure of the Balkan route.

Over the past year, there have been several signs showing increased activity in the Balkans but also in Greece where new routes from Turkey have formed.”

  27. Islamophobia and xenophobia on the rise in Germany, new study claims (independent, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/germany-islamophobia-xenophobia-racism-study-survey-extremism-a8622391.html

“Prejudice towards Muslims and foreigners is rising in Germany, a study has revealed.

More than 44 per cent of Germans believe Muslims should be banned from immigrating, compared to 36.5 per cent in 2014, the Competence Centre for Right-Wing Extremism and Democracy Research found.

The poll found more than one in two (55.8 per cent) said the number of Muslims made them feel like strangers in their own country, while 43 per cent gave the same answer four years ago, the Die Welt newspaper reported.

It also showed more than one in three Germans believe foreigners only come to the country to exploit the welfare state and 35.6 per cent feared Germany had already been “dangerously watered down” by foreigners.

Antisemitism was also prevalent, with one in 10 Germans saying they felt Jews still have “too much of an influence even today” and saying they “do not really fit in with us”.

The increase in prejudicial views recorded by the poll were almost always higher in eastern than western Germany.

The study also found 8 per cent said a dictatorship might be a better form of government than democracy under certain circumstances, while 11 per cent expressed a desire for a leader who “governs the country with a firm hand for the good of all”.

It comes as Jewish students in Berlin marked the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the “Night of the Broken Glass” which is often considered the beginning of the Holocaust, on Wednesday.

The event marked an eruption of antisemitism which saw Nazis terrorising Jews throughout Germany and Austria, killing at least 91 people, burning down hundreds of synagogues and vandalising and looting 7,500 Jewish businesses.

Around 30 students from the Jewish Traditional School lit candles and recited prayers at their school as Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal urged them to jointly overcome Germany’s past by building a secure future for Jews in the country.

Berlin’s top security official banned a far-right protest planned for Friday – the exact anniversary of Kristallnacht.

In explaining his decision, the state interior minister, Andreas Geisel, said such a demonstration would “in a blatant way negate the moral and ethical significance of this memorial day”, the German news agency dpa reported.”

  28. Egypt sentences 8 to death over 2016 ISIS attack on army checkpoint (thedefensepost, Nov 7, 2018)
    https://thedefensepost.com/2018/11/07/egypt-sentences-8-death-isis-army-attack/

“An Egyptian military court sentenced eight members of Islamic State to death on Wednesday, November 7 for a deadly attack against the army in 2016, several regime sources told AFP.

The court in Ismailia in the country’s northeast also sentenced 32 people to life imprisonment – a term of 25 years under Egyptian law – while two others were given 15 years.

Two defendants were acquitted, a military source said.

The eight who were sentenced to death were not present in court, a judicial source told AFP without elaborating.

The accused were tried for “the killing of several soldiers and the attack on a checkpoint and an army vehicle” in 2016, the military source said, without giving further details.

All were identified as members of the Egyptian branch of Islamic State (Wilayat Sinai, or Sinai Province) which has led an insurgency in North Sinai and carried out several attacks across the country…”

  30. Note: driving home, just a few minutes ago, I heard a radio news interview (CFRA) with a woman from Edmonton who was at a concert and kissed her girlfriend. A security person immediately stepped in between them and told them that this behaviour is not permitted at the venue and if they have a problem with it, talk to her supervisor…

I have found a news story about the story, and will put the link below, but, listening to the live interview, the woman in question, Allyson MacIver, said that we live in a multicultural society and that not everyone will be accepting of LGBTQ lifestyles, and that this is OK.

    Very gracious.

Now, she asked that the woman security guard an a friend of hers join the two kissing girlfriends for dinner on Saturday….so they can let bygones be bygones!
