On Sunday, Brazilians elected Jair Bolsonaro to the presidency, putting an ultra-right wing authoritarian in charge of the world’s fourth-largest democracy.
His campaign was fueled by a growing movement of right-wing youth, who promoted him relentlessly on WhatsApp and other social media. They grew up under the center-left government of the Worker’s Party, which ruled Brazil from 2003 until 2016, until it effectively collapsed under the weight of economic crisis and political scandal — all of which was successfully exploited by the right.
That means they’re are also too young to remember the military dictatorship that ruled Brazil from 1964 until 1985. Supporting military rule has been the centerpiece of Bolsonaro’s three-decade career in politics, and his young supporters subscribe to his version of history.
“I was born in 1997, so I didn’t live through it,” said Juan Gabriel Rodrigues Silva, a student and activist in Nova Iguaçu, a city north of Rio de Janeiro. “But when you ask normal people who lived their lives and worked, and weren’t out doing bullshit on the streets, all those people say it was the best period of their lives.”
Brazil’s military regime, with help from the United States, made a systematic effort to exterminate the left. It tightly censored the press and the arts, and it tortured, murdered, and exiled thousands. It also helped install and manage even bloodier dictatorships in Chile, Uruguay, and elsewhere in South America. Bolsonaro’s words echo the military regime to this day: One week before the election, he delivered a speech promising a “cleansing” of the left.
“I’m afraid. It makes me very apprehensive that the population doesn’t know it’s history,” said Lucio Bellentani, an autoworker who was arrested in 1972 for belonging to a union at a Volkswagen plant in São Paulo. Bellentani was imprisoned for two years and tortured repeatedly with electric shocks and beatings.
“I think this is worse than the coup in ’64,” Bellentani said. “Why? Because they are taking power through democratic means. They’re using the system they never wanted — using the instruments we fought for — to gain power.”
Totally OT. My grandfather’s brother was executed by the Japanese in WW2. My other grandfather was involved in finding and analysing Holocaust sites in Europe after WW2. Because I have both read and heard (to my face) comments by muslims just how they intend to do what Egypt failed to do: remove totally the those infidels who refuse to convert (that is why Copts have my total admiration). Once a western country is sharia and they have control of the armed forces industrialized murder will be back with a vengeance. I have seen what they do and I know what they intend to do.

You are right, Printed Books are the permanent record, digital books and references are subject to change at the whim of the people in charge of the websites. Because he allegedly attacked his 47-year-old daughter in the Neukölln district of Gropiusstadt in Berlin with a knife and seriously injured her, a father (75 y/o) will be brought before the regional court as of Monday (9.30 a.m.). The 75-year-old is accused of attempted murder for alleged “violation of honour”. According to the investigations, the pensioner attacked his daughter on 17th of April 2018 at 12 noon at her workplace in the shopping centre “Wutzky” at Joachim-Gottschalk-Weg street. The man from Turkey stabbed the innocent woman several times with a knife in the shoe and bag shop. Witnesses intervened and stopped him. The victim, who was in critical condition, was hospitalized and had to undergo surgery immediately. The background to the crime was the “violation of honour” of the 75-year-old, because he did not like the way his daughter communicated with other people.The 75-year-old had been angry because he had observed the 47-year-old at her daughter’s school several times in conversation with fathers of other school children, the prosecution said. This may be a negotiating strategy but it may not, I have heard that Xi has to have the military on his side in the internal political fighting so they have a lot of influence over him. Also the Chinese Army has been planning to fight a war against the US for close to two decades and their trade practices is just one of the tactics they called for early one. Their actions in the South China Sea are another action they called for so while it may be a negiotiating strategy they may be serious. Of course even if they are serious we can’t let the Chinese continue to steal from us the way they have been doing all of this century.
When someone says they are going to kill you or go to war against your country you have to take them seriously and plan for what is possibly coming. Thanks to China’s threats we have to prepare for a war with China, this is the best way to see that one doesn’t happen.

Herein lies the irony IMO: without the horror of the holocaust there could have been NO Israel. The Chinese vessel came within 45 yards (meters) of the USS Decatur during a “freedom of navigation” sail in late September, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said this month.
The U.S. mission was the latest attempt to counter what Washington sees as Beijing’s efforts to limit freedom of navigation in the strategic waters, where Chinese, Japanese and some Southeast Asian navies operate.
China’s relationship with the Russian navy should be watched “with interest” as it grows, said Richardson, speaking at an event co-organized by the U.S. embassy in Jakarta.

Mystery as Homeland Security is called in to deal with a traffic stop in South Carolina
Federal agents have been called in to investigate after the local sheriff’s department pulled over a truck in South Carolina.
A pickup truck was stopped by sheriff’s deputies on Interstate 85 in Anderson County on Monday.
Sheriff Chad McBride said he could not reveal what deputies found in the truck because Homeland Security had taken over the investigation.

President Trump is considering building a “tent city” along the southern border as a possible solution to the approaching migrant caravan.
During an interview on Monday, the president explained the tents would be used to hold migrants who have applied for asylum while they wait for their case to go to trial. He added, very few asylum applications are actually approved and those whose applications are rejected will be deported from the country.
President Trump went on to blast the Obama administration for following a ‘catch and release’ policy, stressing how that will not happen under his watch.

Officials: Migrant Caravan Will Not Enter U.S.
The Pentagon announces how it will respond to the thousands of migrants headed toward the U.S. border.
Officials Monday said there have been multiple resources deployed to address the approaching migrant caravans, including thousands of Border Patrol agents and Special Task Forces.
They pointed to the recent violent acts by the caravan, after forcing their way through the Guatemala-Mexico border over the weekend, and warned they will not allow them to enter the U.S. unlawfully.
Officials added the Mexican government has already offered the migrants a deal to stay in Mexico, including guaranteed shelter and employment, but that offer was denied.
“By the end of this week we will deploy over 5,200 soldiers to the southwest border,” said Gen. Terrence John O’Shaughnessy. That is just the start of this operation. Similarly, the Washington Post’s Max Boot, who says “the Republican Party needs to be burned down” and that he wants “the Democrats to take over,” peddled precisely the same refrain, falsely stating that the accuser had nothing to gain from her accusation.
But she obviously did have a great deal to gain from her accusation — over a million dollars. It is wise to be skeptical of accusations when the accuser may have a powerful motive to lie.

Does this kid honestly believe that Robert Bowers, the synagogue shooter, and Cesar Sayoc, the email bomb messenger, are well-balanced, emotionally sound people who carried out their heinous crimes solely because of comments they heard the president make?

Gunman shoots out windows of GOP office in Florida

A gunman in Florida fired at least four shots into the Volusia County Republican Party’s offices, police said Monday.
South Daytona police Capt. Mark Cheatham told reporters that nobody was injured in the shooting, which occurred between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. A suspect has also not been identified, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Student shot dead at North Carolina high school

A student allegedly shot and killed a classmate at a North Carolina high school Monday morning, sending parents into a panic as they swarmed the school in an effort to determine if their children were safe.
A student at Butler High School in Matthews, N.C., reportedly shot a peer Monday morning. Neither the victim’s nor the shooter’s name has been released, according to WSOCTV9.
The shooting took place after an alleged altercation between the victim and aggressor, who reportedly fired off a gun in the main hallway of the school, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) Superintendent Clayton Wilcox.
“We’re incredibly saddened that we had a loss of life on one of our campuses today. What makes it doubly difficult is that it was one of our students who was the shooter,” Wilcox said, according to WSOCTV9. “First of all, our hearts go out to the larger community and to all of the young people who witnessed this tragedy today.”

Russia: FSB detain 18 IS-linked terror suspects in Tatarstan
The Russian Federal Security Service, FSB, released footage on Tuesday showing the detention several people allegedly acting under the guidance of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) in the Republic of Tatarstan.
According to FSB, a total of 18 cell members were detained. The agents also confiscated weapons, extremist literature and identity documents.
FSB’s press release said that the members of the sleeper cell were planning to carry out attacks in Russia, and afterwards join ISIS in Syria.
Iran: Thousands take to streets of Tehran to mark Arbaeen
Several thousand Iranian worshippers marched through the streets of Tehran on Monday, as part of the annual observance of Arbaeen.
The marchers passed through some of the city’s main thoroughfares on their way to offer prayers at the Hazrat Abdol Azim Hassani’s shrine, which houses the tomb of a descendant of the second Shia Imam Hasan ibn Ali.
The Arbaeen is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in the seventh-century. Hussein is said to be the third Shia Imam and the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson.
The main pilgrimage takes place in Karbala, Iraq, for which nearly 2 million visas were issued to Iranian visitors alone in 2018.

Jamal Khashoggi’s fiancee on his murder – BBC News
Hatice Cengiz says she waited for hours for her fiancee, Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, outside of the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
The Saudi journalist was killed in the Kingdom’s embassy in Istanbul on 2 October.
He had gone to the consulate to obtain documents proving he was divorced from his ex-wife.
Turkish officials have said the journalist was tortured and killed on the consulate premises and that his body was then removed.
They say they have audio and video evidence to support this claim.
Saudi Arabia initially denied any knowledge of Mr Khashoggi’s fate, but later said he had been murdered in a “rogue operation”.

“A police investigation sparked by the child abuse scandal in Rotherham is now investigating more than 400 suspects, it emerged today.
The National Crime Agency, often called ‘Britain’s FBI’, is conducting a huge investigation after a 2014 report found more than 1,000 young girls had been abused in the South Yorkshire town.
Scandals have since engulfed other towns and cities, including Newcastle, Telford and most recently Huddersfield, with a series of similar gangs jailed.
Vulnerable young victims were typically given drugs and alcohol before being passed around between men of Pakistani heritage to be raped and sexually assaulted at will.
Authorities did little to tackle the abusers or save their young victims from their terrible ordeals, often due to fears over being labelled racist.
In the latest tranche of convictions, seven men were found guilty by a jury at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday, of 24 charges relating to sex crimes between 1998 and 2005.
Operation Stovewood, the NCA probe sparked by the Rotherham scandal, is now examining 420 other suspects, The Times reported today.
Paul Williamson, the head of the inquiry, told the paper that its scale was daunting.
The NCA is set to bring its total spending on Operation Stovewood to £90 million by 2024 and will soon have a 250-strong team investigating sex abuse crimes in the 16 years to 2013.
This latest case involved five girls as young as 13 suffering acts of a ‘degrading and violent’ nature.
The men would drive around town in their ‘flash’ cars and target girls from problem homes hanging around late at night outside a supermarket.
At first the girls believed the older men were their ‘boyfriends’ and thought they were in ‘love.’ But that quickly changed as the grooming process progressed to brutal abuse. If they didn’t comply to sexual demands, the men turned violent.
They were driven to remote locations or empty homes with no electricity to be raped and assaulted, the court heard.
The men would threaten to dump them in the middle of nowhere if they didn’t agree to depraved demands and one was abandoned on the M1 motorway.
One of the girls was raped in car parks, under a bridge and in a country park. The court heard she was raped or assaulted by seven of the defendants at different times.
In 2002 the then 15-year-old went with her mother to report an abduction and beating to police. She later reported being raped by one defendant in a country park, but a police investigation into this alleged rape ended without a file being sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Rotherham – The issue of child abuse in the town first came to light in 2010 when five Asian men were jailed for sexual offences against under-age girls.
A 2014 inquiry found there were more than 1,400 victims of grooming and sex exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.
Rochdale – The trial of nine men for grooming young white girls for sex attracted widespread public outrage and sparked a national debate when they were convicted in 2012.
The gang received jail sentences of between four and 19 years for offences committed against five girls – aged between 13 and 15 – in and around Rochdale between 2008 and 2010.
The case returned to the public consciousness earlier this year when the BBC broadcast its Three Girls drama based on the experiences of some of the victims.
Newcastle – A total of 17 men and one woman were convicted of, or admitted, charges including rape, supplying drugs and inciting prostitution, in Newcastle last year.
Older men preyed on immature teenagers who were plied with cocaine, cannabis, alcohol or mephedrone (M-Cat), then raped or persuaded into having sexual activity at parties known as ‘sessions’.
The case raised huge controversy after a convicted rapist was paid almost £10,000 of taxpayers’ money to spy on parties where under-age girls were intoxicated and sexually abused.
Northumbria Police launched a major investigation after receiving information from social workers and initially spoke to 108 potential victims. Over the course of four trials, 20 young women gave evidence covering a period from 2011 to 2014.
Oxford – A group of men who abused teenage girls in a vehicle they called the ‘s**gwagon’ were jailed for a total of nearly 90 years in June this year.
The men – aged 36 to 48 – befriended vulnerable girls as young as 13 before plying them drink and drugs at ‘parties’ in Oxford.
The eight men – branded ‘predatory and cynical’ by a judge – were jailed for between seven and a half and fifteen years each.
Bristol – Some 13 Somali men were jailed for more than a total of more than 100 years after they were convicted in 2014 of running an inner city sex ring.
Victims as young as 13 were preyed upon, sexually abused and trafficked across Bristol to be passed around the men’s friends for money.
Aylesbury – Six men were jailed in 2015 for grooming vulnerable under-age white girls between 2006 and 2012.
The Old Bailey heard victims would be plied with alcohol and forced to perform sex acts for as little as ‘the price of a McDonalds’.
Peterborough – A total of 10 men were convicted of child sex crimes in the town, including ‘predatory’ restaurant boss Mohammed Khubaib.
He was jailed for 13 years at the Old Bailey in 2015, after he was found guilty of forcing a 14-year-old girl to perform a sex act on him and nine counts of trafficking for sexual exploitation, involving girls aged from 12 to 15, between 2010 and 2013.
Telford – Earlier this year, Telford became the latest town to become the focus of the now sadly familiar stories of abuse.
A Sunday Mirror investigation concluded that around 1,000 children could have been sexually exploited in the Shropshire town over a 40-year period, leading to calls for a public inquiry.
Huddersfield: Earlier this month, 20 sex abusers were jailed for grooming vulnerable girls as young as eleven.
The court heard evidence from 15 victims during the trials and the judge said he fears none of them will ever recover from their ordeals.
In victim statements the girls described coming into contact with the abusers after being bullied at school and said the relationship became ‘one of those things that you couldn’t get out of’.
The case attracted attention after activist Tommy Robinson was jailed for almost causing one trial to collapse.”

“An Eritrean national who was rejected for asylum in Germany has been given a short jail sentence after he violently raped a middle-aged woman who was on her Monday morning walk to work in Leeds.
Filmon Teklay launched his attack near a shut-down pub close to the city centre at 6.15am on September 3rd, when he punched and threatened to kill the woman before sexually assaulting and then raping her, Leeds Crown Court heard.
The victim — a woman in her 50s, who had struggled and screamed for help during the ordeal — said she feels the impact of the violent attack “has taken my life away from me”.
She said in a victim impact statement read to the court by prosecutor Michael Greenhalgh: “I constantly feel stressed and depressed and spend most of my time indoors because I’m too scared to go out and I don’t trust anyone.
“I see that man in my mind every day and what he did to me. “I can’t sleep. I feel dirty and I don’t like myself anymore.”…”

“A French police officer in charge of security for Charlie Hebdo managing editor Riss has been relieved of duty after investigators found he had viewed radical Islamic material and feared he may have become radicalised himself.
The officer, who was a member of the Service de la protection (SDLP) which protects high-profile dignitaries, was suspected of radicalisation following concerns from the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI), France’s domestic intelligence agency, BFMTV reports.
The DGSI found that the officer, who is a Muslim, had viewed and interacted with known Islamist websites and said that the officer’s colleagues had reported a change in his behaviour which they labelled as “disturbing”.
A source from within the police said that the evidence proved that the policeman was “incompatible” with the task of protecting the Charlie Hebdo writer who, along with his colleagues, was targetted for death by radical Islamic terrorists in January 2015…”

“Lombardy’s populist League-led local government has blocked plans to turn an old chapel into a mosque after an Islamic group outbid Christians at the auction of a church in Bergamo, northern Italy.
The region’s president, Attilio Fontana, announced at the weekend that the council had utilised a 2004 law which allows regional government to halt a sale in the name of safeguarding cultural sites.
According to local media, the auction for the former hospital chapel was won by the Muslim Association of Bergamo which sought to turn the building into another mosque in the city after outbidding the Romanian Orthodox Church, which had used the site for worship since 2015.
Lombardy “will exercise our right of preemption and there will be no room for an appeal” regarding the sale of the church, said Fontana, stating that the council intends to “protect” Christianity in Italy.
“I would never have put a church up for sale and I am amazed that the hospital management did not understand how sensitive this issue was,” the League politician said.
“I have already contacted Father Gheorghe Valescu, head of the Romanian Orthodox community in Bergamo, to reassure him and illustrate the actions that are being taken to ensure the community does not lose their place of worship,” added Fontana.
League leader Matteo Salvini, who has served as Italian Interior Minister since June, had vowed ahead of national elections earlier this year his party would “put a stop to any irregular or abusive Islamic presence in Italy”, warning that the religion represents a “danger” to the Mediterranean nation, which fought off countless invasions and attacks from the Muslim world during the past two millennia, including the centuries-long capture of Sicily.
“Centuries of history are at risk of disappearing if Islamisation, which has been underestimated until now, finally wins,” the populist Italian said in a statement in January.”

“Cypriot police say 17 Syrian migrants who set sail from Lebanon aboard a small craft have declared that they intend to apply for asylum on the east Mediterranean island nation.
Police said Tuesday a patrol boat rescued the migrants — including five children — after authorities located their craft some 77 kilometers (42 miles) off the island’s southeastern tip.
Police said the migrants told authorities that they departed from a Lebanese harbor on Oct. 29 after each paying 1,000 euros ($1,140) to an individual who provided them with the craft.
The migrants said their intended destination was Cyprus. Police said all are well and are currently hosted at a migrant reception center on the outskirts of the capital, Nicosia.”
