  1. Five Terror Attacks Thwarted by France This Year (breitbart, Oct 23, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/10/23/five-terror-attacks-thwarted-by-france-this-year/

“French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner has claimed that French security services have foiled at least five serious terror plots in the last year including one linked to Iran.

Mr Castaner, who was appointed Interior Minister by President Emmanuel Macron earlier this month following the resignation of former minister Gerard Collomb, said that despite foiling the attacks, the terror threat to France remains high, Le Journal du Dimanche reports.

Several factors keep the threat of terror high including the number of returning jihadis from the Middle East.

“Some must be followed as a priority: those with psychological vulnerabilities, those who could have firearms, the ‘ghosts’ of Iraq or Syria – which represents 261 adults identified in France,” Castaner said.

“There are also the 700 French people who are still in the zone, particularly in Idlib, whose attempts to return are to be monitored, and those who have been convicted in cases related to a risk of terrorism or who have become radicalised in prison and who will be coming out soon,” he added.

According to Minister of Justice Nicole Belloubet, around 50 Islamist terrorists and 450 radicalised Islamists could be set free from prison by the end of 2019…”

  2. Human Rights Watch: Palestinians crush dissent with torture (abcnews, Oct 23, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/human-rights-watch-palestinians-crush-dissent-torture-58680323

“Security forces of the rival Palestinian governments routinely use torture and arbitrary arrests, among other tactics, to quash dissent by peaceful activists and political opponents, Human Rights Watch said Tuesday.

The charges came in a new report released by the New York-based watchdog, following a two-year investigation that included interviews with nearly 150 people, many of them ex-detainees. It accused both the Western-backed Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and the Islamic militant Hamas in Gaza of using “machineries of repression” to stifle criticism.

Human Rights Watch also said the systematic use of torture could amount to a crime against humanity under the United Nations’ Convention against Torture, and called on countries that provide funding to Palestinian law enforcement to suspend their assistance.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ government joined the convention after Palestine was accepted as a nonmember state at the U.N.

“Palestinian authorities have gained only limited power in the West Bank and Gaza, but yet, where they have autonomy, they have developed parallel police states,” said Tom Porteous, deputy program director at Human Rights Watch. “Calls by Palestinian officials to safeguard Palestinian rights ring hollow as they crush dissent.”

According to HRW, the Palestinian leaderships in the West Bank and Gaza engage in similar tactics, in most cases without holding anyone to account.

Among the alleged abuses: whipping people’s feet, forcing detainees into painful stress positions, hoisting up people’s arms behind their backs with rope and coercing suspects into granting access to their mobile phones and social media accounts.

The group’s director for Israel and the Palestinian territories, Omar Shakir, told a news conference that the Palestinian Authority detained 220 Palestinians without charge or trial for their social media posts, including 65 university students and two journalists. He claimed Hamas authorities in Gaza have detained over 45 people for their social media activity.

“These numbers do not speak to the scale which both authorities have gone to in order to shut down dissent,” Shakir said.

Both Hamas and the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority denied the accusations…”

  3. Iraq: Blast at market near Mosul kills 6, including 2 troops (abcnews, Oct 23, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iraq-blast-market-mosul-kills-including-troops-58682340

“An Iraqi official says a bomb blast at a market in a town south of the city of Mosul has killed at least six people, including two soldiers.

The official says the bombing happened on a street in the market of Qarraya, a town in northern Ninevah province.

The officer says at least 40 people have been wounded. The officer spoke anonymously, under government regulations.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Qarraya is about 70 kilometers (45 miles) south of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city. Both Mosul and Qarraya were ruled by Islamic State militants from 2014 until 2017, when Iraqi forces recaptured the area after heavy fighting.”

“Alavi made the remarks while visiting Mehran border on Tuesday.

The ringleader of the terrorist team was in Europe and has been supported by neighboring countries, he said.

The group was aimed to conduct sabotage against Arbaeen pilgrims, he added.

During the operation, 15 terrorists were arrested and their plots were foiled, he noted.

The terrorist group had explosives for suicide and sabotage operations, Alavi said.

He went on to say that intelligent forces are ready to suppress all those aiming to perform terrorist acts.

‘We are facing a regional and arrogance coalition against security of the country,’ he said.

Various groups are encouraged and provoked by this coalition, Alavi said, adding that it will make security systems’ work more difficult and sensitive.”

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas did not wait for Saudi Arabia to admit that Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi was killed in its consulate in Turkey. Days before the Saudi announcement, Abbas decided that he and the Palestinians have “absolute confidence” in King Salman bin Abdel Aziz and this son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

As Abbas was busy praising the Saudis for their “justice, values and principles,” the London-based Action Group for Palestinians of Syria issued a statement in which it accused the Saudi authorities of preventing Palestinian refugees from entering the kingdom.

“Palestinian refugees fleeing war-ravaged Syria have been denied access into Saudi territories,” the group said. It pointed out that the Saudi ban excluded Palestinians heading to the kingdom to perform the Islamic hajj, or pilgrimage. The group also pointed out that Palestinians who fled Syria to Saudi Arabia “have been shorn of their right to visas, education, and health care, among other vital services.” Saudi Arabia, the group added, “continues to opt for a closed-door immigration policy regarding Palestinian refugees seeking asylum in its territories.”

  7. “Terrorism U.: Gov. Cuomo Supports Terrorists Angela Davis, Oscar Rivera, Antifa on Campus” by William F. Jasper – October 20, 2018

    Excerpt:

It’s not surprising that NYU Skirball is presenting Angela Davis, since it has declared a two-week Karl Marx Festival October 17-28.

NYU Skirball says it is promoting this extended event as a “two-week commemoration of the great philosopher’s 200th birthday.” Here’s more from Skirball as to the rationale for the Marx extravaganza:

Karl Marx (1818–83), revolutionary economist, philosopher and author of The Communist Manifesto, was one of the most influential figures of all time. Curated by Jay Wegman and inspired by Marxist writings on the perils of capitalism, class struggle and socialism, the festival features works that represent aspects of Marx’s theories: P Project (the effects of capitalism); Brujx (the oppression of the proletariat) and Non-Western (economics). Special events include panels, talks by international philosophers and the premiere of Choral Marx, a choral adaptation of Marx’s Manifesto.

It’s easy to see why many critics refer to the NYU talks program as Screwball. But that misrepresents the gravity of the situation. When we think of “screwball,” we think of someone or something that is strange, silly, or even comical. This is far beyond that; it is patently dangerous — and subversive. And the taxpayers are funding it. The NYU Skirball website informs us: “The Skirball Talks series is made possible in part by a Humanities New York Action Grant and by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.”

By Pamela Geller – on October 22, 2018

It’s a bloody invasion. But prepare yourself for an enemedia onslaught of propaganda about how wonderful this all is. Nor is this by any means the first time that this has happened. Not long ago, Muslim migrants used a BATTERING RAM to break through another European border fence — like the Muslim armies of old (but this time, there’s no Charles Martel to greet them). Instead, the Euro-elites respond by paying them a ransom, jizya, with money that they haven’t even got, and demonizing those who call this invasion what it is, calling us “racists” and “islamophobes.” One day before too long, Europeans will realize that they were demonizing those who wanted to save European nations as free societies.

  12. Internet Censorship Just Took An Unprecedented Leap Forward, And Hardly Anyone Noticed

While most indie media was focused on debating the way people talk about Kanye West and the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, an unprecedented escalation in internet censorship took place which threatens everything we all care about. It received frighteningly little attention.

After a massive purge of hundreds of politically oriented pages and personal accounts for “inauthentic behavior”, Facebook rightly received a fair amount of criticism for the nebulous and hotly disputed basis for that action. What received relatively little attention was the far more ominous step which was taken next: within hours of being purged from Facebook, multiple anti-establishment alternative media sites had their accounts completely removed from Twitter as well.

As of this writing I am aware of three large alternative media outlets which were expelled from both platforms at almost the same time: Anti-Media, the Free Thought Project, and Police the Police, all of whom had millions of followers on Facebook. Both the Editor-in-Chief of Anti-Media and its Chief Creative Officer were also banned by Twitter, and are being kept from having any new accounts on that site as well.

“A teenager has been stabbed to death in South London on Monday evening in a suspected gang-related “hit”.

The 18-year-old victim was reportedly slain on his doorstep, outside Collins House in Greenwich, south London, with witnesses describing three men involved in an altercation with him, police said.

Officers said he suffered stab injuries and died at the scene just after 10 pm, despite ambulance services rushing to try and save the youth. There has been no formal identification or arrests made, police added.

The killing comes as two alleged drug dealers were jailed the following day, Tuesday, for killing a rival in the street in Stockwell, also in south London.

Hassan Mohamed, 24, was jailed for murder and will serve at least 26 years after the killing of Balbir Johal, 40, in March of this year. He was found with fatal stab wounds…”

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s office in California was vandalized Monday, according to an Instagram post by the congressman.

McCarthy, whose local office is in Bakersfield, Calif., posted photos of the suspects and some of the damage. Two young men were caught on surveillance camera outside of the office, which had its window smashed in by a large boulder.

Defining gender as a condition determined strictly by a person’s genitals is based on a notion that doctors and scientists abandoned long ago as oversimplified and often medically meaningless.

“The idea that a person’s sex is determined by their anatomy at birth is not true, and we’ve known that it’s not true for decades,” said Dr. Joshua D. 16. Crude Anti-White Anti-Male Anti-Christian Communists Indoctrinate California K-12 Students
Leftist hate group “Just Communities” has a $250,000 contract with Santa Barbara educators to brainwash students.
    October 23, 2018
    Matthew Vadum

Above is a curriculum the Santa Barbara Unified School District has paid an organization called “Just Communities” to impose on its K-12 students. It tells you all you need to know about the racist, anti-American left which has embedded itself in school districts like Santa Barbara all across the country.

The left-wing hate group, whose full name is Just Communities Central Coast, has a $250,000 contract with school authorities in Santa Barbara, California, to indoctrinate young people into believing that America today is a manifestly immoral, cruel country in which white people routinely oppress non-whites, men oppress women, Christians oppress non-Christians, heterosexuals oppress gays, and the wealthy oppress the poor.

This anti-American mini-manifesto aimed at fomenting social discontent comes in a “Forms of Oppression” grid produced by Just Communities, which is partnering with the Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD). The grid is included in a bundle of documents published online that includes the Just Communities 2018 training manual. (The document is also posted at Scribd here.)

Just Communities is attempting to radicalize students and encourage them to become activists obsessed with the Marxist holy trinity of race, sex, and class.

  17. The Impending Alien Invasion
How the Left plays the “compassion card” for destructive ends.
    October 23, 2018
    Michael Cutler

Headlines have been written proclaiming that a “caravan of migrants” is heading for the U.S./Mexican border. Sometimes the people who are heading north through Central America are referred to as “refugees” or “immigrants.”

Those terms are designed to downplay the threat that these individuals pose and assuage the fears that this may understandably engender in Americans. Words do matter.

In point of fact, the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) defines an alien simply as being, “Any person, not a citizen or national of the United States.”

There is no insult in the term “alien” or in its definition, but there is clarity. The obvious goal of the radical Left is to obfuscate the truth through Orwellian use of language that has been mis-portrayed as “political correctness.”

Shortly after President Trump was elected I wrote about this intentional misuse of language in my article, The Left’s Orwellian Tactics.

Remarkably, the radical Left had no problem using the term “alien” when they needed a word that began with the letter “A” for the DREAM Act, an acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors.

While we are on the topic of words, perhaps the term “invasion” should be substituted for “caravan.”

In 2014, Jason Rezaian, the Washington Post’s Tehran Bureau Chief, was arrested and spent two years in prison. Iran kept him in one of its worst prisons, he slept on a damp concrete floor, was denied medical treatment, experienced hallucinations due to sleep deprivation and was abused by his captors. His wife was told that her legs would be cut off and her husband would be thrown off a cliff if she didn’t confess.

While Jamal Khashoggi has often been misidentified as a Washington Post journalist, all he did for the radical leftist paper owned by Amazon’s CEO is write editorials promoting the Muslim Brotherhood agenda. The Muslim Brotherhood leader and former Bin Laden pal was never a journalist. The closest he came to it was acting as a terrorist propagandist in Afghanistan, glamorizing Osama bin Laden, on behalf of a man listed by the Treasury Department as one of “the world’s foremost terrorist financiers.”

And yet the arrest and abuse of Jason Rezaian didn’t touch off a fraction of the outrage from his own paper as the possible death of Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of the Saudis. The media went through the usual formal protests, but the outrage was muted and there was no talk of sanctions. Instead, Rezaian, along with some other hostages, was illegally ransomed after two years by Obama for $400 million.

  19. Trump vows to send as many troops ‘as necessary’ to keep growing migrant caravan out
    Gregg Re
By Gregg Re | Fox News

In an interview aboard Air Force One on Monday, President Trump made clear there was no limit to the number of troops he’s willing to send to the border to address the growing migrant caravan quickly making its way through hot and humid temperatures in Mexico to the U.S. border.

The president previously vowed to send the U.S. military, as opposed to the National Guard, to confront the group, which the United Nations now estimates is over 7,200 members strong. Dramatic footage over the weekend showed the caravan, which is at least 1,100 miles from the U.S. border, defying Trump’s warnings and smashing a border fence, as migrants flooded into Mexico despite the presence of riot police.

Trump told USA Today in an interview that “people from the Middle East” are among the thousands of migrants in the caravan, echoing remarks he made on Twitter Monday morning, when he complained there were MS-13 gang “criminals and unknown Middle Easterners mixed in.” The president did not elaborate.

  20. Beto 2020? As O’Rourke’s Senate Chances Fade And War Chest Grows, Speculation Swirls He Could Be Eyeing A Bigger Prize

Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke continues to lag Republican Sen. Ted Cruz by increasingly wider margins in the Texas U.S. Senate race, but his ever-increasing war chest could be signaling an intention to launch a 2020 presidential run.

O’Rourke gained national attention after a constituent asked the Senate hopeful in August if he felt that NFL players kneeling for the national anthem was disrespectful to the country and America’s veterans. In a now viral interaction, O’Rourke disagreed and commended the demonstration. The response lavished praise from the Hollywood elite, springboarding the congressman onto the daytime and late night television circuit.

As the Senate race tightened to a margin of single digits in the consistently red state, speculation of O’Rourke entering the national political arena began to percolate. Later, O’Rourke was even included in CNN’s 2020 presidential poll, where he ranked as a top 10 contender. Tied with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, O’Rourke received 4 percent of the total vote.

“Beto is running for president in 2020. I’ve been telling everyone this for months,” Jesse Kelly, a Houston talk show host and former U.S. Marine, tweeted Tuesday. “He’s not even trying to win in Texas. He has smartly build up his national profile and will finish this race with $20 million in the bank.” (RELATED: O’Rourke’s ‘Lifelong Republican’ Mother More Often Votes Democrat)

  21. French Ban on Face, Body Veils ‘None of UN’s Business’ – Anti-Islamization Group (sputniknews, Oct 23, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201810231069150802-french-group-responds-to-un-niqab-criticism/

“The UN Human Rights Committee has given France six months to review its ban on the full-body Islamic chador garments, and accused Paris of violating the rights of women by fining them for wearing the niqab, a full-face veil. The head of a French anti-Islamization group told Sputnik that Islamic face-covering garments conflict with French identity.

The UN committee gave Paris until late April 2019 to review its policy on Islamic women’s garb, saying it was “not persuaded” by Paris’s arguments that the ban on face coverings was related to security and the goal of living together in a secular society. In addition, the committee accused French authorities of violating the freedom of religion of two women fined in 2012 for wearing the niqab.

In a written comment for Sputnik, Christine Tasin, president of Resistance Republicaine, an association opposed to the Islamization of France, condemned the committee’s decision, calling its conclusions “a lot of fuss about nothing.”

“First of all, this committee has no authority, and the opinions it gives are by no means binding,” Tasin explained. “If France had a leader like Salvini or Putin, there’s no doubt that the opinions of these pseudo-experts would be the subject of ironic and sardonic comments, a kind of verbal bras d’honneur,” she added.
Furthermore, Tasin argued that it was actually the UN which violated the inalienable rights of the French people “by meddling with our laws, our system of justice, and the choices of our society. This is an unacceptable drift toward globalization and a violation of the sacrosanct principle of democracy,” she insisted.

Finally, Tasin suggested that the UN has no moral right to be “both judge and jury” in this case, because the Human Rights Committee is in the hands of supporters of Islam and does everything “promote the Islamization of our countries in the name of ‘freedom of religion’.”

France, the activist noted, is a secular country where religion, like politics, is a private matter, and shouldn’t have to be taken into consideration by anyone.

The case of the veil is particularly sensitive, according to Tasin, since it touches on one of France’s most sacred documents, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen of 1789.

“The veil challenges the equality between men and women, since it signals that women are separate beings who have to hide, and that men are animals in heat, ready to throw themselves on women if they happen to see a woman’s hair or legs,” she noted.

The view that Paris should submit to the views of a UN committee is rightfully scorned by the public, Tasin said. “The French people never decided by vote to renounce our country’s sovereignty and to transfer it to international ‘experts’ who do not know the situation in France, do not know our traditions and laws,” she noted.
France’s main problem, according to the activist, is that the country is led by Emmanuel Macron, whom she said is a “globalist who hates France” and takes every opportunity to criticize the country, its history, and the public’s attachment to French identity.

With this in mind, Tasin fears the worst, saying that the president may revisit the 2010 law on niqabs to placate the UN committee. Is it reasonable, she asked, that “veiled individuals could be teaching our children that a woman is inferior to a man and that she has to walk around in a garbage bag to avoid her husband’s pangs of jealousy?”

Finally, pointing out that France is at war with Islamist terrorism, and has suffered repeated attack, Tasin argued that the return of the niqab would endanger countless lives.
“Recently, a dangerous criminal killed a police officer and escaped from prison. He was able to remain on the run, living in an Islamized neighborhood and moving around wearing a niqab. How can this committee dare to ask the impossible of France, which has already paid the price of 255 dead and 1,100 wounded since 2015?” the activist concluded.”

  27. Belgium court strips citizenship of man convicted of recruiting jihadists for Syria (thedefensepost, Oct 23, 2018)
    https://thedefensepost.com/2018/10/23/belgium-strips-citizenship-fouad-belkacem-sharia4belgium-syria/

“A man found guilty in Belgium of recruiting jihadists for the war in Syria was stripped of his Belgian citizenship on Tuesday, October 23.

Fouad Belkacem, a 36-year-old born in Belgium to Moroccan parents, was sentenced in 2015 to 12 years in prison for heading “a terrorist group,” Sharia4Belgium, which sent jihadists to Syria.

An appeals court in Antwerp withdrew his citizenship on grounds “he seriously failed to meet his obligations as a Belgian citizen and posed a permanent threat to public security,” Belgian media reported.

Belkacem’s group recruited would-be jihadists to fight for Islamic State and other groups in Syria, prosecutors said in 2015.

Belkacem’s lawyer Liliane Verjauw denounced the decision by the court in the northern Dutch-speaking city, saying she would take further action to restore his nationality.

“Usually the second step is to try to expel him to Morocco,” Verjauw told AFP. “Yet his whole family is in Belgium, his wife and his four children are Belgian. He does not have a Moroccan passport.”

In December 2017, Malika el-Aroud, who served an eight-year prison term in Belgium for leading an al-Qaeda-linked terror group, was stripped of her Belgian citizenship.

  28. 25 mega deals worth $50bn (saudigazette, Oct 23, 2018)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/546331/SAUDI-ARABIA/25-mega-deals-worth-$50bn-signed-in-FII2018

“Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, joined global leaders and business influencers from around the world on the first day of Future Investment Initiative (FII) here on Tuesday.

Jordan’s King Abdullah attended the afternoon session with the Crown Prince.

Crown Prince Muhammad said he was satisfied with the Future Investment Initiative conference as he toured the venue.

“Great, more people more money,” he told reporters.

Earlier, Memoranda of Understandings for 25 mega deals totaling $50 billion were signed on the first day of the Future Investment Initiative (FII).

The deals cover the oil, gas, industries and infrastructure sectors with firms such as Trafigura, Total, Hyundai, Norinco, Schlumberger, Halliburton and Baker Hughes.

Oil giant Saudi Aramco said it signed 15 memoranda of understandings worth $34 billion.

Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih said, “This heavy attendance of international leaders in the field of oil and gas today is proof of the great trust in the Kingdom’s status.”

“We will resume our journey to the future with our strategic partners,” he added.

Total Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanné, a panelist on Tuesday, said the French oil and gas producer would announce a retail network in the Kingdom with Saudi Aramco.

Russia sent a large delegation led by Direct Investment Fund head Kirill Dmitriev, who said Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation was “important for the world” and that partnerships between sovereign wealth funds was a “great opportunity”.

The managing director of the Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, the main backer of the event, said the country was becoming more transparent and that the Saudi Public Investment Fund continued to develop new industries under economic reforms launched by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan said the fund has invested in 50 or 60 firms via SoftBank Group’s Vision Fund and would bring most of those businesses to the Kingdom. PIF has committed to invest $45 billion in Vision Fund.

He said that around 10% of the Kingdom’s sovereign fund assets are international assets while 90% were local, adding that the Fund aims to increase international assets to 50% by 2030.

“In 2030, we want it to have 50% international assets and 50% local assets,” Rumayyan said.”

    • PTrump is quietly displeased with the Saudis for another reason.
“Memoranda of Understanding” sound good – like $110B of good. But don’t count the money till it’s in your hand. They all lie.

I’ve read that investment cash is coming really, really slowly. Not showing as much “good faith” as our Deal-Maker Prez expected. So he’s making more general demands. Doesn’t want to push too much, but that’s definitely a factor in his Khashoggi response.

“One of the alleged regional leaders of terrorist group PKK/KCK in Sweden was nabbed in a counter-terrorism operation in southeastern Turkey, security sources said on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified by the initials H.B. (46), was held in Diyarbakir province and accused of leading the terrorist group’s operations in Sweden, the sources, who wished to remain unnamed due to security reasons, said.

The detention was part of a joint probe launched by Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutors’ Office, Turkish Intelligence Agency (MIT) and security forces, the sources added.

H.B., who had been photographed with a poster of the head of the jailed PKK terror leader Abdullah Ocalan, reportedly came to Turkey to hold a clandestine meetings with PKK affiliates.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women and children.”

  33. Eight sentenced over attack by Muslims at Swiss mosque (thelocal, Oct 23, 2018)
    https://www.thelocal.ch/20181023/eight-sentenced-over-attack-by-muslims-at-swiss-mosque

“A Swiss court has handed eight men suspended sentences of up to 18 months for their role in a 2016 attack in which two worshippers at a controversial mosque in Winterthur were beaten, locked up and threatened with death over suspicions they had tipped off journalists about a radical sermon preached by an imam.

The regional court in Winterthur on Tuesday handed down the sentences after the men were found guilty of false imprisonment and intimidation.

The men will also have to pay a financial penalty if they re-offend during while on probation. In addition, two of the men, an Afghan and a Macedonian, must now leave Switzerland and will not be allowed to return for seven years.

In a related sentence, a young man who was still 17 at the time of the attack was given a six-month suspended prison term for his part in the attack. He has been ordered to undergo counselling and is forbidden from having contact with anyone in the Winterthur Islamist community.

A further two men were found not guilty of taking part in the assault at the city’s An’Nur mosque. The mosque had been the focus of a number of police operations over alleged links to radical Islam and closed its doors for good in the middle of last year.

The attackers are said to have forced one of their victims to swallow a banknote, while their other victim suffered concussion after being assaulted.

The two were attacked after allegedly tipping over a journalist about a sermon in which an imam at the mosque called for the killing and burning of Muslims who did not participate in communal prayer, and for others to denounce such people.

That imam, a 25-year-old Ethiopian, was found guilty of incitement to violence in 2017 and handed an 18-month suspended sentence. He was also handed a deportation order and ordered not to return to Switzerland for 10 years.

Winterthur has been considered a hotspot for Islamic radicalization in Switzerland with a number of young men having left the city to travel to Iraq and Syria to fight for the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).”

  34. Explosion in Kreuzberg bar amid rising criminal gang activity in Berlin (thelocal, Oct 23, 2018)
    https://www.thelocal.de/20181023/explosion-in-kreuzberg-bar-marks-rising-criminal-gang-activity-in-berlin

“A targeted explosion which ripped through a Kreuzberg Shisha bar on Monday morning is the latest in a series of escalating gang attacks across the German capital.

At around 4:30am on Monday morning, a group of unidentified assailants smashed a hole in the wall of the bar in Oranienstraße, before placing and detonating an explosive device.

Although the bar itself was badly damaged, no-one was injured in the explosion.

The police’s Organized Crime Department has been assigned to follow up on the case. While Arabic gang activity has been on the rise across several German cities, it has been particularly prevalent in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district.

A series of apparent revenge attacks in recent months have resulted in concerns that the police are losing control of the streets.

In early September, a known gang figure named by police as ‘Nidal R’ was shot and killed in broad daylight by four assailants while walking through Templehofer Feld in the city’s neighbouring Neukölln district with his wife and children.

Over 100 people witnessed the shooting, which took place on a busy Sunday in the popular city park.

The murdered man had been warned by police just hours earlier that he may be in danger from rival gangs.

In the wake of the man’s funeral, police called for calm and threatened to significant repercussions for anyone planning to execute a revenge attack.

Police believe a September attack on another Kreuzberg shisha bar, which followed shortly after the Templehof shooting, was related to Nidal R’s assassination.

In that attack, more than 30 assailants armed with batons descended on the Manteuffelstrasse bar, threatening customers and destroying furniture. By the time police arrived, the attackers – along with the customers and employees of the bar – had fled.

It follows two further attacks on establishments in Treptow and Kreuzberg during the months of September and October.

Despite the apparent increase in gang activity, local business owners have said they aren’t concerned by the escalating violence.

Julian Boyce, who owns Mexican restaurant Santa Maria – located just metres from where the explosion took place – said the gangs didn’t pose a threat to others in the neighbourhood.

“It’s something I’ve heard about, but we’ve never really come across any of it. I’ve always made it a priority to be friendly to our neighbours – we’re pretty friendly with everyone,” Boyce said.

“If you get mixed up in it then it could be a problem, but they (criminal gangs) tend to keep to themselves,” he added.

Neukolln mayor Martin Hikel has called for an end to the violence, telling a Berlin Internal Affairs Committee meeting that the “extreme brutality (of the gangs) endangers social peace”.

Hikel said that an estimated eight Arabic gangs made up of an approximate 1,000 people were active in his district.”

    • Julian Boyce, who owns Mexican restaurant Santa Maria – located just metres from where the explosion took place – said the gangs didn’t pose a threat to others in the neighbourhood.

Julian Boyce: No, no. Never, never. These Arab “gangs didn’t pose a threat to others in the neighbourhood”. They give their mothers flowers and that…

Interviewer Stig, I’ve been told Dinsdale Piranha nailed your head to the floor.
Stig No, no. Never, never. He was a smashing bloke. He used to give his mother flowers and that. He was like a brother to me.

Interviewer But the police have film of Dinsdale actually nailing your head to the floor.

Stig Oh yeah, well – he did that, yeah.

      Interviewer Why?

Stig Well he had to, didn’t he? I mean, be fair, there was nothing else he could do. I mean, I had transgressed the unwritten law

      Interviewer What had you done?

Stig Er… Well he never told me that. But he gave me his word that it was the case, and that’s good enough for me with old Dinsy. I mean, he didn’t want to nail my head to the floor. I had to insist. He wanted to let me off. There’s nothing Dinsdale wouldn’t do for you.
