     “The September 22 terrorist attack on a military parade in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz left 25 people dead and injured many others.

     On Monday, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) fired several surface-to-surface ballistic missiles at the organizers of last month’s attack gathered in an area east of the Euphrates River in Syria, Press TV reported.

     According to a statement by the Corps’ public relations office, the retaliatory strike killed and injured a large number of jihadist terrorists.

     The September 22 attack on a military parade in Ahvaz was simultaneously claimed by two terrorists groups allegedly linked to Saudi Arabia, Press TV wrote.

     Iranian security forces killed three of the four assailants involved in the attack and later detained a fourth one who subsequently died of his wounds.

     According to Iran’s Intelligence Ministry, its forces found the terrorists’ hideout and arrested 22 individuals suspected of involvement in the Ahvaz attack that Tehran blames on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

     Monday’s missile strike came just days after IRGC Deputy Commander, Brigadier General Hossein Salami, warned Riyadh and Abu Dhabi against meddling in the country’s domestic affairs or face retaliation.

     In June, Iran fired six medium-range ballistic missiles at a terrorist hideout in Syria’s western Deir ez-Zor province killing 65 Daesh terrorists, including several high-ranking intelligence commanders, in retaliation for twin terrorist attacks in the Iranian capital Tehran, which killed 17 people and injured over 50 others.”

     Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched six ballistic missiles from an area close to Kermanshah, targeting militants in the region to the east of the Euphrates River in Syria on Monday morning, footage from Iranian State TV showed.

     According to the PR office of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the strike allegedly killed several of the leaders and participants of the deadly Ahvaz attack on September 22.

     The ballistic missiles reportedly targeted Abu Kamal, a city on the Euphrates River in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate of eastern Syria, near the border with Iraq and was followed by an airstrike carried out by seven UAVs (Unmanned aerial vehicles).

     The missiles were launched under the name ‘Muharram strike’ and travelled a reported distance of 570 kilometres (355 miles) before reaching its targets.

   “The wanted man cannot cite diplomatic immunity because he was on a several day holiday trip outside his host state Austria and not traveling between his host country and the state that dispatched him,” the superior regional court in Bamberg said in a statement.

   Assadi was detained in July near the German city of Aschaffenburg on a European warrant after a couple of people of Iranian origin were arrested in Belgium and authorities reported finding powerful explosives in their car.

   The diplomat was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and being a foreign agent.

   Belgian authorities have accused Assadi of being part of an alleged plot aimed at reportedly setting off explosives at a huge annual rally of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq group, or MEK, in neighboring France.

   Six people linked to the case were seized legally in Belgium, France and Germany, two of whom were later released.”

   “On September 28, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit off Sulawesi, wreaking havoc and triggering a tsunami shortly afterward, scaring a lot of local residents and even provoking a major prison break in the country.

   Three different detention facilities have reported about 1,200 prisoners that are now on the run after escaping through walls that collapsed during the earthquake.

   Almost 900 convicts have escaped from two prisons in the city of Palu that were severely damaged by the quake. Some walls have collapsed and the prisoners got out past guards, while others broke down the main doors.

   “Things were initially fine…but not long after the quake, water erupted from under the prison yard causing prisoners to panic and then run onto the road. I’m sure they escaped because they feared they would be affected by the earthquake. This is for sure a matter of life and death for the prisoners,” Ministry of Justice official Sri Puguh Utami stated, pointing out that the water was not from the tsunami.

   The Donggala jail was set on fire with all 343 inmates now on the run, Utami said.

   “The rise of violent crime and sexual harassment against teachers has spurred many young specialists into considering leaving the profession due to increased challenges.

   The extent of physical violence and threats at Swedish schools has increased dramatically over the past five years. Reports of violence in schools have more than doubled, signaling of an increasingly insecure work environment, national broadcaster SVT reported.

   Between 2012 and 2017, reports of physical violence in primary and secondary schools have spiked by 129 percent. During the same period, notifications of threats of abuse have increased by 46 percent. Sweden’s Teacher Union also stressed that sexual harassment against teachers has increased, emphasizing that far from all cases were reported, SVT informed.

   In 2018, the numbers continued to grow. So far this year, the Work Environment Authority has received 544 reports compared to 474 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 14.7 percent. The Work Environment Agency admitted that the increase in reported school violence is significantly higher than in other workplaces.

   The chairwoman of the Teachers’ trade union, Åsa Fahlén, ventured that increased violence in schools reflects the general increase of violence in Swedish society, calling the numbers “scary” and urging principals and teachers to “dare to report.”

   “I’m worried, but not surprised,” Fahlén told SVT. According to her, Swedish society has been expressing itself in a more violent way, which is particularly apparent in school. “However, it’s not just talk. Look at the numbers, and you’ll see more blows and kicks. There is more physical violence now,” Fahlén said.

   According to her, the lack of teachers also plays a role, as schools with a high turnover of staff tend to be particularly vulnerable to threats and violence. This leads to a vicious circle of violence, where the absence of teachers willing to confront an aggressive work environment escalates existing problems.

   “If you change teachers every now and then, you cannot form trustworthy relationships,” Fahlén said.

   In Sweden’s “vulnerable areas” (politically correct term for blighted urban zones with a high percentage of immigrants, soaring unemployment and rampant crime), it is not uncommon for schools to close down, because the staff is unable to maintain order among students. For instance, the Värner Rydén School i Malmö’s Rosengård.

   While the reports include everything from trashed school rooms to knife fights and murder, according to SVT, though, the number of reports alone doesn’t give the entire picture, because the will to report serious crimes may vary over time due to various factors. While some students may refrain from revealing threats, abuse and violence for reasons of security, there may be also employers refusing to report them to keep their reputation intact.

   “Whether threats and violence at school actually increased, I do not know. We only have the reports with work with,” Kjell Blom at the Work Environment Authority explained.”

   Police said Monday the migrants, including six children and two women, have been taken to a reception center on the outskirts of the capital, Nicosia.

   Police said the boat had set sail from Mersin, Turkey, and landed Sunday in ethnically divided Cyprus’ breakaway north before the migrants crossed over into the internationally recognized south.

   Cyprus is seeking help from the European Union to cope with a burgeoning number of asylum-seekers. Cypriot officials say the country of around a million people nearly tops all EU states for the number of asylum applications relative to its population.

   Last month, EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos pledged the bloc’s support to Cyprus.”

   Somalia’s Islamic extremist rebels, al-Shabab, claimed responsibility for the blast through its radio arm, Andalus.

   There was no immediate comment from the European Union on the attack on its military convoy. The Italian military trainers were reportedly trainings members of the Somali army.”

    The scientists’ work in the 1990s has since swiftly led to new and dramatically improved therapies for cancers such as melanoma and lung cancer, which had previously been extremely difficult to treat.

    “The seminal discoveries by the two Laureates constitute a landmark in our fight against cancer,” the Nobel Assembly at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute said as it awarded the prize of nine million Swedish crowns ($1 million).

    Allison and Honjo “showed how different strategies for inhibiting the brakes on the immune system can be used in the treatment of cancer,” it said, adding that resulting treatments, known as immune checkpoint blockade, have “fundamentally changed the outcome” for some advanced cancer patients.

    Medicine is the first of the Nobel Prizes awarded each year. The prizes for achievements in science, literature and peace were created in accordance with the will of dynamite inventor and businessman Alfred Nobel and have been awarded since 1901.

    Filippo Grandi also urged Myanmar’s government to do more to create the conditions for Rohingya Muslims to return home. Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya have fled to neighboring Bangladesh to escape a bloody crackdown since August last year.

    The wide-ranging address by Grandi at UNHCR’s annual executive committee meeting on Monday comes as the European Union has been riven by discord over how to handle an influx of migrants in recent years — though the rate has dropped off from a record high in 2015.

    The new government in Italy, which has taken a stricter line on migrants, has refused to allow in some boats that retrieved desperate people who left from Libya, dropping the dilemma of whether to take them in on fellow EU countries like France and Spain.

    Grandi, who is Italian, appealed to Europe to preserve its asylum policies. He noted that Libya — the main launch point for migrants hoping to cross the Mediterranean — has strengthened its coast guard in recent months, but not its other institutions.

    As a result, more would-be migrants and refugees have been getting forcibly returned to Libya, and “that means more and more people exposed to exploitation and detention — in horrific conditions.”

    COLOMBO (Reuters) – Japan’s largest warship, the Kaga helicopter carrier, sailed into Sri Lanka’s Colombo harbor this weekend, marking Tokyo’s highest profile salvo in a diplomatic battle with China for influence along the region’s vital commercial sea lanes.

    Japan has long provided low-interest loans and aid to Sri Lanka, helping it transform Colombo into a major trans-shipment port tapping the artery of global trade just south of the island that links Europe and the Middle East with Asia.

    Beijing has, however, emerged as a powerful rival across South Asia and beyond as it implements its Belt and Road infrastructure initiative.

    Both China and Japan are also flexing their military muscles further from home.     One thing is for sure. Few would insist that the epic dementia of American politics at this hour does not warrant images of ancient human stains.

    As Freedom Outpost and others have reported over the weekend, the replica of an arch from Palmyra, Syria, which in ancient times led to the temple of the pagan god Baal, was erected in front of the U.S. Capitol building on 26 September as part of the replica’s global tour.

    The arch was recreated in replica after the original was destroyed by ISIS in 2015 at its historical site in Palmyra. The arch served as a gateway to the temple of Baal (or Bel) situated at the heart of the urban center. The worship of Baal, a legacy of the Babylonian Empire, stretched back thousands of years in what was once called Canaan. But the arch destroyed by ISIS wasn’t built until sometime between A.D. 193 and 211 (or 193-211 CE), during the reign of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus.

    At the time the arch was built, however, pagan worship still predominated in the area. The temple of Baal was a major feature of the local culture in a city that had grown rapidly, over the previous three to four centuries, along the caravan routes. Although Roman-era Syrians were some of the earliest Christians, it would not be for more than another century, after Constantine embraced Christianity, that Palmyra became officially Christian.

14. Democrats’ new tack: Investigate Kavanaugh for ‘perjury’

    Still lacking corroborating evidence of disputed sexual misconduct accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, some Democrats now want Kavanaugh investigated for perjury in the latest iteration of their months-long campaign to derail his confirmation.

    The perjury push comes as Democrats still lack corroborating evidence to support professor Christine Blasey Ford‘s claim that Kavanaugh tried to drunkenly force himself on her while the two were in high school.

    • Delay, Delay, Delay. That is what is happening, they are going to try and block the Kavanaugh nomination by any means necessary, in the process they are continuing the destruction of the peaceful exchange of power that has been the norm in the US since the Founding of our nation. This destruction was started by the left with their weaponizing of the US legal and intelligence systems to attack the political rivals of the setting President (Obama) and to ensure the election of a member of his party (Hillary) to be his successor. This attack on Judge Kavanaugh isn’t unprecedented, after all they did the Same to Bork and Clarence Thomas succeeding in one and failing in another.

      The delay tactic is to let the Dems have hope that they will gain control of one or both houses in the November election, they have openly stated that if they do they will impeach Kavanaugh no matter what and that they will impeach Trump and Pence. What is happening is a coup against the US government and an effort to force the US into Third World political practices. The left has pushed the European nations into Police State Status and are trying to do the same in Canada and the US.

      As we read yesterday the far radical left is openly talking about armed rebellion to the US Government, if they win in November the groups planning the rebellion will be the new political police going after all who oppose the far left. If the Dems lose in November (what I think) these groups will be the cadre and grunts of a terror campaign that will make the one in Europe during the 60s and 70s look small.

      I thought the civil wars would start in Europe but it is looking like I was wrong.

    Shimaa Qassem voiced fears for her life in a live video broadcast online, saying she had received a message warning her that she would be next.

    On Thursday, Tara Fares – who had 2.8 million followers on Instagram – was killed by unknown gunmen in Baghdad.

    Her death came two days after a female human rights activist, Suad al-Ali, was gunned down in the city of Basra.

    And in August, the owners of two beauty salons in Baghdad – Rafeef al-Yaseri and Rasha al-Hassan – died a week apart in “mysterious circumstances” at their homes.

    Both women were reportedly from the same social circle as Ms Fares.

    It is not clear whether any of the deaths are connected. But Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has said he has the impression there is “a plan behind these crimes” and he has ordered an investigation…”

    The media tend to downplay sexual violence committed by progressive politicians, even when reporting it. Justin Miller of the liberal Daily Beast noted recently that “Senators Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd sexually assaulted a waitress in 1985. No one apparently called it that, but that’s what it was.” This attack committed by two Senate Democrats was reported at the time, often in reporting that minimized its significance, as if sexual assault could somehow be excused as “boys being boys.” It was quickly forgotten. If they had been Republicans, rather than Democrats, America’s newspapers would have been filled with furious columns by progressive female columnists about how powerful men can get away with anything, and the country would have had a months-long “national conversation” about sexual assault and male entitlement.

17. Members of Judiciary Committee given beef-up security following increased death threats

    At least two Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have been designated special protection following increased threats after the panel’s hearing with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing him of sexual misconduct more than 35 years ago.

    Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona were assigned multiple uniformed officers, the Capitol Police confirmed to Roll Call on Friday. In addition to responding to the heightened level of threats, the security will also help to manage crowd control.

    Flake, a key swing vote in Kavanaugh’s confirmation process, ignited a firestorm after he voted “yes” to advance the nominee to the full Senate with the condition that an FBI probe would briefly investigate Ford’s accusation against Kavanaugh. In the report, Mitchell points out more than a dozen glaring inconsistencies in Dr. Ford’s account and paints the accusations as potentially fraudulent.

    Mitchell’s points out several points, including:

    Rachel Mitchell reaches the conclusion that ““A ‘he said, she said’ case is incredibly difficult to prove. But this case is even weaker than that.”

    In perhaps her most damning finding, Rachel Mitchell writes that “The activities of congressional Democrats and Dr. Ford’s attorney’s likely affected her account”. Mitchell ostensibly alleges that the maneuvering of congressional Democrats, and the actions of her attorneys, who acted more like handlers, influenced her account of events, and perhaps even her truthfulness. This may have come out as Mitchell’s lines of questioning were repeatedly interrupted by her attorneys, namely Michael Bromwich, who also represents Andrew McCabe.

    Rachel Mitchell sums up her report on Page 2, in saying “I do not think that a reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the committee. Nor do I believe that this evidence is sufficient to satisfy the preponderance-of-the-evidence standard.”

      Rachel Mitchell, the prosecutor who questioned Christine Blasey Ford last week during a hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote a five-page memo that was released on Sunday that outlines why she would not bring criminal charges against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

      Mitchell’s memo notes nine significant problems with Ford’s testimony and underscores that her case is “even weaker” than a “he said, she said” case.

      “A ‘he said, she said’ case is incredibly difficult to prove,” Mitchell states. “But this case is even weaker than that. Dr. Ford identified other witnesses to the event, and those witnesses either refuted her allegations or failed to corroborate them. For the reasons discussed below, I do not think that a reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the Committee. Nor do I believe that this evidence is sufficient to satisfy the preponderance-of-the-evidence standard.”

      Here are the nine problems outlined in Mitchell’s memo:

      1. Dr. Ford has not offered a consistent account of when the alleged assault happened:

      -In a July 6 text to the Washington Post, she said it happened in the “mid 1980s.”
      In her July 30 letter to Senator Feinstein, she said it happened in the “early 80s.”

      -Her August 7 statement to the polygrapher said that it happened one “high school summer in early 80’s,” but she crossed out the word “early” for reasons she did not explain.

      -A September 16 Washington Post article reported that Dr. Ford said it happened in the “summer of 1982.”

      -Similarly, the September 16 article reported that notes from an individual therapy session in 2013 show her describing the assault as occurring in her “late teens.” But she told the Post and the Committee that she was 15 when the assault allegedly occurred. She has not turned over her therapy records for the Committee to review.

      -While it is common for victims to be uncertain about dates, Dr. Ford failed to explain how she was suddenly able to narrow the timeframe to a particular season and particular year

      2. Dr. Ford has struggled to identify Judge Kavanaugh as the assailant by name:

      -No name was given in her 2012 marriage therapy notes.

      -No name was given in her 2013 individual therapy notes.

      -Dr. Ford’s husband claims to recall that she identified Judge Kavanaugh by name in 2012. At that point, Judge Kavanaugh’s name was widely reported in the press as a potential Supreme Court nominee if Governor Romney won the presidential election.
      In any event, it took Dr. Ford over thirty years to name her assailant. Delayed disclosure of abuse is common so this is not dispositive.

      3. When speaking with her husband, Dr. Ford changed her description of the incident to become less specific:

      -Dr. Ford testified that she told her husband about a “sexual assault” before they were married.

      -But she told the Washington Post that she informed her husband that she was the victim of “physical abuse” at the beginning of their marriage.
      She testified that, both times, she was referring to the same incident.

      4. Dr. Ford has no memory of key details of the night in question—details that could help corroborate her account:

      -She does not remember who invited her to the party or how she heard about it.

      -She does not remember how she got to the party.

      -She does not remember in what house the assault allegedly took place or where that house was located with any specificity.

      -Perhaps most importantly, she does not remember how she got from the party back to her house.

      -Her inability to remember this detail raises significant questions.

      -She told the Washington Post that the party took place near the Columbia Country Club. The Club is more than 7 miles from her childhood home as the crow flies, and she testified that it was a roughly 20-minute drive from her childhood home.

      -She also agreed for the first time in her testimony that she was driven somewhere that night, either to the party or from the party or both.

      -Dr. Ford was able to describe hiding in the bathroom, locking the door, and subsequently exiting the house. She also described wanting to make sure that she did not look like she had been attacked.

      -But she has no memory of who drove her or when. Nor has anyone come forward to identify him or herself as the driver.

      -Given that this all took place before cell phones, arranging a ride home would not have been easy. Indeed, she stated that she ran out of the house after coming downstairs and did not state that she made a phone call from the house before she did, or that she called anyone else thereafter.

      -She does, however, remember small, distinct details from the party unrelated to the assault. For example, she testified that she had exactly one beer at the party and was taking no medication at the time of the alleged assault.

    • 5. Dr. Ford’s account of the alleged assault has not been corroborated by anyone she identified as having attended—including her lifelong friend:

      -Dr. Ford has named three people other than Judge Kavanaugh who attended the party— Mark Judge, Patrick “PJ” Smyth, and her lifelong friend Leland Keyser (née Ingham). Dr. Ford testified to the Committee that another boy attended the party, but that she could not remember his name. No others have come forward.

      -All three named eyewitnesses have submitted statements to the Committee denying any memory of the party whatsoever. Most relevantly, in her first statement to the Committee, Ms. Keyser stated through counsel that, “[s]imply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford.” In a subsequent statement to the Committee through counsel, Ms. Keyser said that “the simple and unchangeable truth is that she is unable to corroborate [Dr. Ford’s allegations] because she has no recollection of the incident in question.”

      -Moreover, Dr. Ford testified that her friend Leland, apparently the only other girl at the party, did not follow up with Dr. Ford after the party to ask why she had suddenly disappeared.

      6. Dr. Ford has not offered a consistent account of the alleged assault:

      -According to her letter to Senator Feinstein, Dr. Ford heard Judge Kavanaugh and Mark Judge talking to other partygoers downstairs while she was hiding in the bathroom after the alleged assault. But according to her testimony, she could not hear them talking to anyone.

      -In her letter, she stated, “I locked the door behind me. Both loudly stumbled down the stairwell, at which point other persons at the house were talking with them.”
      Kavanaugh or Mark Judge turned up the music in the bedroom so that the people downstairs could not hear her scream. She testified that, after the incident, she ran into the bathroom, locked the door, and heard them going downstairs. But she maintained that she could not hear their conversation with others when they got downstairs. Instead, she testified that she “assum[ed]” a conversation took place.
      Her account of who was at the party has been inconsistent.

      -According to The Washington Post’s account of her therapy notes, there were four boys in the bedroom in which she was assaulted.

      -She told the Washington Post that the notes were erroneous because there were four boys at the party, but only two in the bedroom.

      -In her letter to Senator Feinstein, she said “me and 4 others” were present at the party.

      -In her testimony, she said there were four boys in addition to Leland Keyser and herself. She could not remember the name of the fourth boy, and no one has come forward.

      -Dr. Ford listed Patrick “PJ” Smyth as a “bystander” in her statement to the polygrapher and in her July 6 text to the Washington Post, although she testified that it was inaccurate to call him a bystander. She did not list Leland Keyser even though they are good friends. Leland Keyser’s presence should have been more memorable than PJ Smyth’s.

      7. Dr. Ford has struggled to recall important recent events relating to her allegations, and her testimony regarding recent events raises further questions about her memory:

      -Dr. Ford struggled to remember her interactions with the Washington Post.

      -Dr. Ford could not remember if she showed a full or partial set of therapy notes to the Washington Post reporter.

      -She does not remember whether she showed the Post reporter the therapist’s notes or her own summary of those notes. The Washington Post article said that “portions” of her “therapist’s notes” were “provided by Ford and reviewed by” the Post. But in her testimony, Dr. Ford could not recall whether she summarized the notes for the reporter or showed her the actual records.

      -She does not remember if she actually had a copy of the notes when she texted the Washington Post WhatsApp account on July 6.

      -Dr. Ford said in her first WhatsApp message to the Post that she “ha[d] therapy notes talking about” the incident when she contacted the Post’s tipline. She testified that she had reviewed her therapy notes before contacting the Post to determine whether the mentioned anything about the alleged incident, but could not remember if she had a copy of those notes, as she said in her WhatsApp message, or merely reviewed them in her therapist’s office.

      -Dr. Ford refused to provide any of her therapy notes to the Committee.

      -Dr. Ford’s explanation of why she disclosed her allegations the way she did raises questions.

      -She claimed originally that she wished for her story to remain confidential, but the person operating the tipline at the Washington Post was the first person other than her therapist or husband to whom she disclosed the identity of her alleged attacker. She testified that she had a “sense of urgency to relay the information to the Senate and the president.” She did not contact the Senate, however, because she claims she “did not know how to do that.” She does not explain why she knew how to contact her Congresswoman but not her Senator.

      -Dr. Ford could not remember if she was being audio- or video-recorded when she took the polygraph. And she could not remember whether the polygraph occurred the same day as her grandmother’s funeral or the day after her grandmother’s funeral.
      It would also have been inappropriate to administer a polygraph to someone who was grieving.

      8. Dr. Ford’s description of the psychological impact of the event raises questions:

      -She maintains that she suffers from anxiety, claustrophobia, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

      -The date of the hearing was delayed because the Committee was informed that her symptoms prevent her from flying. But she agreed during her testimony that she flies “fairly frequently for [her] hobbies and … work.” She flies to the mid-Atlantic at least once a year to visit her family. She has flown to Hawaii, French Polynesia, and Costa Rica. She also flew to Washington, D.C. for the hearing.

      -Note too that her attorneys refused a private hearing or interview. Dr. Ford testified that she was not “clear” on whether investigators were willing to travel to California to interview her. It therefore is not clear that her attorneys ever communicated Chairman Grassley’s offer to send investigators to meet her in California or wherever she wanted to meet to conduct the interview.

      -She alleges that she struggled academically in college, but she has never made any similar claim about her last two years of high school.

      -It is significant that she used the word “contributed” when she described the psychological impact of the incident to the Washington Post. Use of the word “contributed” rather than “caused” suggests that other life events may have contributed to her symptoms. And when questioned on that point, she said that she could think of “nothing as striking as” the alleged assault.

      9. The activities of congressional Democrats and Dr. Ford’s attorneys likely affected Dr. Ford’s account:

    In the video, the women write a message calling for a secular state on a sign for a candidate who wears a hijab.

    A Montreal man has filed a complaint with Élections Québec after he witnessed two women vandalizing campaign signs for a Muslim candidate running in Outremont.

    Timothy Merlis shot a video — which he shared on social media — that shows two women vandalizing a sign defacing posters advertising the candidacy of Ève Torres, a Québec solidaire candidate who wears a hijab.

    In the video, shot on Sunday afternoon, one woman pulls the sign down, then the other writes “un état laïc” — “a secular state” in French — on Torres’s hijab.

    Merlis, a McGill University professor, said he was jogging west on St-Viateur St. around 2:40 p.m. when he saw the women vandalizing another Torres sign in a similar manner.

    Merlis said he was surprised to see this sort of vandalism in broad daylight so went ahead to the next Torres sign and prepared to film them.

    Merlis said he was upset by the “Islamophobic actions” of the women and he has filed a report with Élections Québec.

    Torres isn’t the only Muslim candidate to have their signs vandalized. Signs advertising Ali Dahan, an independent candidate running in a Quebec City riding, saw his signs riddled with projectiles from an air gun. Dahan also received death threats.

    The incident occurred Saturday morning in the Spandauer Vorstadt area in Berlin, according to the report.
    The 31-year-old alleged victim, who is not Jewish and living in Berlin, asked the two men why they wanted to know if he was Jewish after they asked him this on the street. Then they assaulted him, the report said.

27. Australians should sign Muslim peace contract or be executed, witness tells court

    A man whose home was raided over an alleged terror plot in Melbourne two years ago believes people who don’t sign a contract to live peacefully with Muslims should leave Australia or be executed.

    Ibrahim Abbas is giving evidence against his younger brother Hamza Abbas, 23, cousin Abdullah Chaarani, 27, and friend Ahmed Mohamed, 25, who are on trial in the Supreme Court accused of conspiring to prepare an attack in Melbourne’s CBD on Christmas Day 2016.

    Mr Abbas’ was arrested on December 22 that year over the plot, which prosecutors allege targeted Federation Square, St Paul’s Cathedral and Flinders Street Station.

    In a police interview played to jurors on Monday, Mr Abbas said 20 police came to his home and arrested him.

    He was questioned about his support for Islamic State, the caliphate and Sharia Law, which he believed should be implemented in Australia for all Muslims and non-Muslims.

    “They would have to sign a contract to live with, amongst Muslims in peace,” he said.

    “Whoever does not sign the contract either leaves the country or is executed.”

    Mr Abbas developed his views listening to scholars like Anwar al-Awlaki, an alleged IS recruiter.

    He also watched “major release” Islamic State videos designed to update watchers on recent events, attacks and show beheadings.

    But he gave up social media and watching political videos after a previous raid on his home.

    “After I got raided I just felt like me being on social media is of no benefit to myself and my views,” he said, noting he had been banned from Facebook five times for posting pictures of Islamic State.

    He did continue to use encrypted messaging app Telegram under username ShiaSlayer, but stopped about six months before his 2016 arrest.

    Mr Abbas told police he was aware of instructional bomb making videos, and Mr Mohamed had directed him to one about a month earlier.

    “He knows that I’m, ah, a fan or I follow IS and – or I agree with their ideology, so he thought that it’d be nice to tell me,” he said.

    The video gave instruction on using hydrogen peroxide to make explosives, a product Mr Abbas previously testified he had gone with some of the accused to buy at a chemist.

    Mr Abbas also told police a visit to Federation Square with his brother, Mr Chaarani and Mr Mohamed was to get ice cream and walk around.

    Last week, he told the court it was then that he suggested the men “just picture a terrorist attack over here”.

    The trial is continuing.

    One of the world’s leading nuclear research centres has apologised after an Italian scientist gave what it called a “highly offensive” presentation about the role of women in physics.

    CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, said on Monday it was shocked by the comments made by Professor Alessandro Strumia from Pisa University at a conference in which he said that “physics was invented and built by men”.

    The centre has also wiped slides from his talk from its website “in line with a code of conduct that does not tolerate personal attacks and insults” and said it was reassessing its relationship with the researcher after an outcry from physicists and scientists around the world.

    In his presentation Prof Strumia said male scientists rather than female scientists were suffering from discrimination that was based on ideology rather than merit.

    “CERN considers the presentation delivered by an invited scientist during a workshop as highly offensive and supports the many members of the community that have expressed their indignation,” said Arnaud Marsollier, media spokesman for CERN.

    CERN, the organisation which discovered the Higgs Boson particle in 2012, hosted the conference on high energy physics and gender in Genoa on Friday.

    “The (scientific) community is in shock,” Mr Marsollier told The Telegraph. “We know physics is dominated by males. This workshop was organised to make progress and that’s why we find it so shocking. We feel it should not happen in future.”

    In a statement CERN, which appointed its first female director-general, Fabiola Gianotti, in 2016, said it was a “culturally diverse organisation” that brought people together from dozens of nationalities. Mr Marsollier said CERN’s management was meeting on Monday to assess its future relationship with Professor Strumia.

    “It is a place where everyone is welcome, and all have the same opportunities, regardless of ethnicity, beliefs, gender or sexual orientation,” the statement said.

    “Diversity is a strong reality at CERN, and is also one of the core values underpinning our code of conduct. The organisation is fully committed to promoting diversity and equality at all levels.”

    Prof Strumia could not be reached on Monday but has reportedly defended his comments despite the outcry.

    Dr Jessica Wade, a physicist at Imperial College London who also spoke at the conference, tweeted her disgust over Prof Strumia’s analysis.

    “Short summary of Strumia’s talk: women aren’t as good at physics as men and they’ve been allocated too much funding/ been promoted into positions of power unfairly. He said this to an audience of early career #womeninSTEM,” she said.

    However, Nico Macdonald, a visiting fellow at London’s South Bank University, said that Prof Strumia’s paper may “well be wrong” but that did not warrant removal.

    “It should be responded to scientifically, and politically, not removed as ‘highly offensive’,” he tweeted.

    Citing the country’s Economy Ministry figures , the Turkish paper also reported that the other eight countries involved in the Yemen conflict as part of the Saudi-led alliance received arms worth $28 million from Germany in the last six months.

    It’s thought that between 14 March and 23 September the government approved 87 export permits for the members of the alliance.

    The exports are said to have been approved despite an agreement not to sell arms to countries “directly” involved in the Yemen war. The deal was forged during the formation of the coalition between Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc and the Social Democrats in March after months of political wrangling. It was not made clear which countries were meant by the phrase “directly”.

    The war between the Saudis and the Iranian-backed Houthi group has raged since 2015, with devastating effect. A senior UN official warned that as a result of the conflict, at least one child dies every ten minutes.”

38. The Islamic State’s Future in Afghanistan

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: After the loss of its stronghold in parts of the Middle East, the Islamic State (ISIS) fixed its eye on the Afghanistan-Pakistan region. There, the ongoing conflict carries the potential for a secure sanctuary, and the region provides a steady stream of fresh recruits from war-battered Afghanistan and over-populated Pakistan. While ISIS does face an uphill battle in the region, it will take a concerted effort to eradicate it completely.

    The Islamic State (ISIS) temporarily managed to win over disgruntled elements among the Afghan and Pakistani Taliban alongside youth from the remote districts in Afghanistan’s east soon after restructuring and renaming itself Islamic State in Khorasan (IS-K) in 2014. IS-K’s initial victories against the Taliban and the Afghan government on both the battle and propaganda fronts rang alarm bells in world capitals, particularly among the weaker neighboring Central Asian states.

    The group’s emergence and battlefield successes also panicked the Afghan Taliban, the insurgent group monopolizing violence in Afghanistan. For a while, their status as the sole non-state actor to take on the Afghan government and the international community in that country was challenged.

    However, over the passage of months, IS-K’s propaganda lost its appeal among common Afghans and Pakistanis as the group mostly reversed its battlefield gains in eastern Afghanistan. One of the prime reasons for these reversals is the group’s incompatibility with the region.

    Juanita Broaddrick, who had accused Bill Clinton of raping her, also accused Hillary of threatening her.

    Bill Clinton’s alleged assaults were not carried out in high school. But there will be no investigation of what a powerful politician did. There’s no interest among Democrats in revisiting the Clinton case. And yet Hillary’s hypocrisy in demanding an investigation of Brett Kavanaugh, despite her work covering up her husband’s victimization of women, is typical among the Democrats and their media allies.

    The Senate Judiciary Committee may have approved the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh on a straight party-line vote Friday, but the confirmation process will not wrap up until the end of the week at the earliest.

    And Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the high court remains in doubt. If Kavanaugh fails to be confirmed, the proximate cause will be the treachery of Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).

    It’s the same old sad, tired story of Republicans snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. With the midterm elections approaching and the possibility of Democrats recapturing the Senate looming, every delay only works to Democrats’ advantage. The longer the process drags on, the more fake victims with implausible stories can surface to bear false witness against Kavanaugh. Putting the final Senate vote off only helps the bad guys.

    The Supreme Court will be shorthanded this morning as it begins hearing cases in its new term. It normally has a complement of nine justices but with Anthony Kennedy’s retirement July 31, which cleared the way for Kavanaugh’s nomination, there have been only eight justices. Roughly speaking there is a 4-to-4 liberal to conservative ideological split on the court. Democrats are trying to drag the confirmation process into the next Congress where they hope to seize control from Republicans. Election Day is November 6. The GOP currently controls the Senate, which has the final say on judicial nominations, by an uncomfortably close margin of 51 to 49

    It has long been obvious that Facebook is no friend of the freedom of speech, and is especially tough on foes of jihad terror and the massive Muslim migrant influx into the West, and so it was perhaps inevitable that this would happen. The Facebook fascists, of course, do their best to conceal what they’re about. This time they have shut down the Jihad Watch page on a technicality that is in reality a catch-22.

    Facebook has been giving me notices on the Jihad Watch page saying that the page is unpublished, and will remain unpublished until I confirm what country I’m in. They want to guard against all those Russian bots, doncha know.

    Confirming what country I’m in involves entering in a code they send to my phone, and the code never arrives. The Facebook page after they say they sent the code to me tells me to update the Facebook app. It doesn’t say anything more specific, but I’ve repeatedly downloaded the latest Facebook app, so it should be fully updated.

    When I asked Facebook Help what to do, they said to enable Location Services. I enabled Location Services. The same thing happened. Page still unpublished.

    I’ve been getting the notice to confirm my country location for awhile, but the Jihad Watch was still updating with new Jihad Watch posts. Today, however, there is a new notice in WordPress, which I use for Jihad Watch, saying that before I publish a post, make sure I’m set up with Facebook. So all morning today I have tried to give Facebook the info it needs, but got the same thing again: they ask for a code that they never send.

    The aim of the investment is to bring more women from non-Western countries onto the labour market, the Ministry for Immigration and Integration wrote on its website.

    “It is absolutely crucial that we get more non-Western women working. Employment amongst refugees and immigrants is improving in general, but women are still some way behind – including those that have been in the country for many years,” immigration minister Inger Støjberg said via a press statement.

    “That means that many of those women are without work and knowledge of the norms and values of Danish society, and are in practice isolated from Danish society,” Støjberg added.

    The term ‘non-Western’ (ikkevestlige) is used by national database Statistics Denmark and encompasses nationals of all countries other than those in the EU plus Andorra, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the United States.

    According to ministry figures, 47 percent of working-age women from non-Western countries are currently unemployed. For Danish women, that figure is 74 percent.

    Up to 80,000 female immigrants and female children of immigrants are currently not in work, according to the government.

    “That is why the government is now allocating 140 million kroner in an effort in which we, along with municipalities, can help women to find work, so they can learn Danish and contribute to society on an equal footing with everyone else,” Støjberg said.

    The money will strengthen municipal resources for mentor programmes, contact persons, family support and courses for eligible women.”

    “Populist attitudes are on the rise in Germany, particularly from within the political center. One in three voters now sympathizes with populist policies, according to a new study by the Bertelsmann Foundation.

    Germany’s political center risks hollowing out as more voters admit embracing populist sympathies, according to a study published Monday by the Bertelsmann Foundation, a progressive think tank, in conjunction with the Berlin Social Science Center.

    The latest “Populism Barometer” found that almost every third German voter sympathizes to some degree with populist anti-establishment policies, whether on the left- or right-wing of the political spectrum.

    At the same time, the number of sampled voters who identify as politically centrist has decreased by four percentage points, to just 32.8 percent.

    The survey, which sampled 3,400 voters in May and August, measured populist attitudes around an individual’s tendency to sympathize with three core factors: anti-establishment attitudes, anti-pluralism and the desire for more “sovereignty.”

    Germany’s changing face

    Curiously, around one in eight voters with populist sympathies still identify as part of the political center. According to the study, such a trend could benefit the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which has leveraged its populist tendencies to mobilize traditionally centrist voters.

    “Right-wing voters support the AfD because the party is right wing. But voters in the middle will also vote AfD because the party speaks to their populist sympathies,” write the study’s authors, Robert Vehrkamp and Wolfgang Merkel.

    The survey also found that as many as 13 percent of voters who identify as part of the center refused to rule out voting for the AfD in the next election.

    “Like a Trojan horse, populist policies are being deployed by the AfD to infiltrate the political center,” said Vehrkamp and Merkel. “Supposedly centrist AfD voters will vote in favor of populism but will ultimately end up choosing an ideology that is actually far further right than their actual beliefs. This is because populism is a ‘bare-bones ideology’ has been fleshed out with far-right policies.”

    The same can also be said, in part, of left-leaning voters, who increasingly see the socialist Left Party as an alternative to the center-left Social Democrats (SPD). The study also found that of all the parties currently in the Bundestag, the Left Party in particular has succeeded in courting more right-leaning, populist voters.

    Should Germany’s centrist parties, therefore, adopt a more populist playbook?

    Merkel’s Union: Lose-lose scenario?

    The answer is perhaps best found by looking at Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative Union, made up of the Christian Democrats (CDU) and their Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU).

    After suffering record losses in last year’s general election, factions within the CDU/CSU have adopted a moderately more populist, anti-migrant platform. This is most apparent among the CSU, which fears it could lose its absolute majority in this month’s Bavarian state election due to the AfD’s rising popularity.

    However, the study warns that in appealing to populist sympathizers the traditionally centrist Union risks alienating voters who identify as strictly not populist, while at the same time also failing to regain the right-wing fringes it has already lost to the AfD.

    “The Union is the victim of a pincer movement carried out by the civic Greens from the leftist, liberal center and the right-wing populist AfD,” write Vehrkamp and Merkel. “Passively accepting, or even actively promoting, this swelling of populism within its ranks would therefore be a highly risky strategy.”

    Voter migration from the Union toward the environmentalist Greens has become increasingly apparent in recent polling data. In Bavaria, the Green party is expected to take around 17 percent of the vote and will likely go into coalition with the CSU. Some national polls also place the Greens in second place, ahead of the SPD and AfD, and just 11 percentage points behind the CDU/CSU.

    Bridging the gap?

    The Bertelsmann study identifies three key policy areas that Germany’s major parties could capitalize on to win back voters drawn to populist allures while also remaining faithful to their centrist core.

    First, contrary to developments in other EU countries, the idea of further European integration and a stronger German role in EU politics continues to win over voters, including many populist sympathizers. Bar the AfD, all parties would stand to benefit from a pro-European platform.

    “The overall picture shows that ‘more Europe’ presents a strong and positive opportunity to mobilize voters, particularly centrists, while avoiding a negative countermovement from the populist camp,” said the study.

    However, the most effective means of bridging the gap is focusing on sociopolitical issues, such as fiscal redistribution and housing. For example, the study found that greater investment in social housing would raise a party’s approval rating by 15 percentage points among both the populist and non-populist camps.

    “Social issues were found to be the most salient themes within a society that is becoming culturally and socially divided,” said Wolfgang Merkel. “If the established parties don’t tend to these social issues, then the populists will be sure to.””

47. Democrat awaiting corruption trial found dead; autopsy planned

    A former Massachusetts state senator awaiting trial on federal corruption charges was found dead in his home Thursday, authorities said.

    The body of former state Sen. Brian A. Joyce, 56, was found by his wife, the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said in a statement. The DA’s office said “foul play” was ruled out for the time being.

    Joyce was reportedly involved in a car crash Wednesday, but it was unclear if that incident was connected to his death. Massachusetts’ chief medical examiner is slated to conduct an autopsy.

    The Polish government’s request for a permanent U.S. base in their country — a facility they would call “Fort Trump” and have vowed to pay some $2 billion toward — is the latest example of how some Eastern European countries are rushing to cozy up to Mr. Trump while relationships deteriorate between the American president and traditional European powers such as France and Germany.

    Regional analysts say Poland’s political leadership sees Mr. Trump as an ally on issues such as national sovereignty and migration, and wants to use that ideological alignment to permanently cement its relationship with the U.S. in the security realm.

    But the offer of “Fort Trump” does come with significant policy strings. Its bilateral nature would represent a fundamental change in the U.S. military’s traditionally broader approach toward European defense.

    There also are sensitive geopolitical implications. The base would surely deepen tensions between Washington and Moscow because Warsaw is making no secret of its desire to use it for ironclad protection against potential Russian military aggression.
