    1. China has militarized one of the most important international shipping lanes in the world, threatening world trade, and free navigation of the seas. Russia has not.
    2. China has stolen truckloads of military technology, and federal information, by a sophisticated cyber warfare arm, including the download of most federal employee’s private data. Russia has posted a hundred grand worth of Facebook ads in addition to other cyber crimes. Although, I’m sure it is possible, there is no public information that Russia has committed such cyber crimes as the Chicoms.
    3. China has infiltrated our universities and now can boast of 300,000 students in American institutions of higher learning, most sending info back to China. China has stood up ‘Confucius Institutes’ in over 100 American universities, which dictate university policy. Russia has not.
    4. China is rapidly building a ‘near peer’ conventional military, possibly capable of confronting American forces in the Pacific. Russia does not have this capability, although they are the largest nuclear power in the world. Short of the apocalypse, nuclear weapons can’t be used.
    5. China has evaporated American manufacturing through a strategy of currency devaluation and cheating on trade agreements, technology and intellectual property theft. Russia also cheats on agreements but isn’t economic threat to the United States.China is.
    6. China has over one million of its own citizens in ‘re-eduction’ camps. Russia does not.
    7. China is still full-on communist. Russia is not. In many ways, Russia is more capitalistic than the U.S., with little welfare and a low flat-rate tax, although corruption is rampant. Russia is a adversary that will always act in its own interests. China is a communist, global threat on the rise.

    • Right now the internal left is threat number 1, China is number 2 Iran is number3 and Russia is number 4. All of this can change and possibly change over night.

        • Probably a lot, the Soviets funded all of the anti US groups during the Cold War and China has taken control of all of that group they can.

          After the fall of the Soviet Union the Western media was given pretty much free access to the old KGB files showing who have been KGB assets. The only thing they with held as the names of the living assets, the ones that either Putin or Soros now control. That may be one of the reasons Putin hates Soros, he stole intel assets from the FSB.

  4. As a student I dabbled in law(I was in another faculty) for the sake of a friend. I only completed torts and I found that to my disgust that statute authorities can “get away with murder” unless the plaintiff(she had a perfect torts case) is well heeled enough to pay for the costs of such litigation. This destroyed my respect for the law, although TBH my experience with the police and especially the highway patrol (whose dishonest tactics are worth a post alone) did not help the matter.
    The point? “Befehlen sind Befehlen” was a failed excuse pushed by many people hanged/shot at Nuremburg for blatant war crimes. This means that no one can use orders from a higher authority to break what? International al law, moral codes? I have been unable to find exactly why this failed so if someone knows then please enlighten me.
    In the enforcement of the hate crime laws I feel that the individual police may well be putting themselves in this harm’s way as they are enforcing ?criminal laws arbitrarily posted by a totalitarian government. I have no idea of jut how flimsy or not is the basis for such laws but surely they are fragile WRT constitutional law in the UK.
    IMO all police involved in the enforcement of so called “hate” crimes should have their name and numbers taken and be told that simply obeying orders will NOT protect them in court in the future. This may seem trivial but if widespread it will undermine both the confidence and the willingness of the rank and file to push the hate crime policies. Flak away!

      People—especially them gubmint types—tend to get really squirrely when names, dates, and places start getting written down.

    • The reason that the just obeying orders from my superiors is still being put forward is that most people don’t know enough history to know that this was rejected in the Nuremberg trials. Also the left has taught people that prior precedent doesn’t matter unless the left says it does.

      All of the above is helping the left form a perfect storm of crimes that cry for prosecution.

    Greeting journalists Saturday en route to Lithuania, Pope Francis was given a book about the former pope by Polish photographer Grzegorz Galazka. Receiving the large book with a beaming John Paul on the cover, Francis quipped: “Pope John Paul II was a saint, I am the devil.”

    His exacts words were ‘Pope John Paul II was a saint, I am the devil.” Let that sink in for a moment. The man who claims to be the ‘vicar of Christ‘, the physical embodiment of Jesus Christ on this earth, said that he was not ‘a devil’ but said that he was THE Devil. Is that funny to you?

      • It is typical narcissistic arrogance when someone says something like that as a superficial joke but actually means it. We all have had the experience of talking to a relative stranger, who makes a sarcastic comment then proceeds as if nothing was said or pretends that it wa a joke. I was returning a mouse that simply did not work and the shop assistant said: “Oh it failed after its first 100,000 uses, did it” and then went on as if he had said nothing at all. However my brother heard him say this, snatched it out of my hand and showed him the purchase docket (3 days old) forcing him to apologize while I simply boggled. Quite honestly I was doubting my hearing until he acted. I found out later that this is a typical tactic used by that subspecies of human that we call ani. I think that we already knew that the pope was one and now he has simply confirmed it.

    • Romance languages use the definite article for an abstract concept, and I daresay that is what the Pope meant, rather than “the devil” or “a devil.” That would put the quip closer to “I am devilish.”

    Now it’s official: A German who shot a Syrian with a manipulated alarm pistol during a conflict in Torgau, Saxony, must now spend his entire life in prison for “attempted murder”. Thus the judge followed the instructions of the public prosecutor. He had already demanded the maximum punishment for the Torgauer Keneth E. in his plea on 21st of September because of a “special severity of the guilt”. Even with subsequent preventive detention. As the newspaper FR writes in today’s edition, the court could not recognize a xenophobic act “even if indications pointed to a right-wing extremist conviction of the perpetrator”. Also disregarded were the “Two Worlds” recognized by the court, which clashed here during the dispute on July the 7th.       In the letter addressed to Sen. Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Ford’s legal team cites Sen. Majority Leader’s Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) speech on the Senate floor on Monday afternoon as “flatly inconsistent” with Grassley’s promise of a “fair and credible process.”

      “In our view, the hiring of an unnamed ‘experienced sex crimes prosecutor’ as Mr. Davis described in his email, is contrary to the Majority’s repeated emphasis on the need for the Senate and this Committee’s members to fulfill their constitutional obligations,” attorney Michael Bromwich wrote. “It is also inconsistent with your stated wish to avoid a ‘circus,’ as well as Dr. Blasey Ford’s repeated requests through counsel that senators conduct the questioning.   14. Judge appears likely to toss Stormy Daniels’ defamation suit

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — A federal judge appeared poised Monday to toss out a defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump by porn actress Stormy Daniels.

    Judge S. James Otero said in U.S. District Court that a tweet the president wrote in April appears to be “rhetorical hyperbole” and speech protected under the First Amendment.

    Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, sued Trump in April after he said a composite sketch of a man she said threatened her in 2011 to keep quiet about an alleged affair with the real estate mogul was a “con job.”

    Trump tweeted that the man was “nonexistent” and that Daniels was playing the “fake news media for fools.” He retweeted a side-by-side photo comparing the sketch with a photo of Daniels’ husband.

    Otero said he would rule later, but that Trump’s statement seemed like an opinion and speech protected under the First Amendment.

    TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — An Iranian media outlet close to the country’s hard-line Revolutionary Guard published a video Tuesday threatening the capitals of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates with missile attacks, further raising regional tensions after a weekend militant attack on a military parade in Iran.

    The video tweeted and later deleted by the semi-official Fars news agency comes as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed Riyadh and Abu Dhabi for the attack in the city of Ahvaz on Saturday, which killed at least 25 people and wounded over 60.

What Google makes doesn’t really exist: You type on a laptop or click play on a YouTube video, and Google zips back bits of digital information.

    But Google parent Alphabet Inc. and the other four dominant U.S. technology companies—Apple, Amazon?.com, Microsoft, and Facebook—are fast becoming industrial giants.       Speaking as a hardcore Capitalist, it’s difficult to say whether this is more an indictment of GM or of Big Tech.

      While US big business continues to eliminate jobs at an an alarming rate, Big Tech keeps expanding its ranks of bland, overpaid, inoffensive, Politically Correct drones to run the jacks at their telecom switchboards.

      Which of these consortiums does more damage is open to debate. Speaking personally, feeding and breeding the herds of drones is a much greater danger.

    Google on Monday released a set of privacy principles to guide Congress as it prepares to write legislation aimed at governing how websites collect and monetize user data.

    The framework largely consists of privacy principles that Google already abides by or could easily bring itself into compliance with. It calls for allowing users to easily access and control the data that’s collected about them and requiring companies to be transparent about their data practices.

    “This framework is based on established privacy frameworks, as well as our experience providing services that rely on personal data and our work to comply with evolving data protection laws around the world,” Keith Enright, Google’s chief privacy officer, wrote in a blog post. “These principles help us evaluate new legislative proposals and advocate for responsible, interoperable and adaptable data protection regulations.”

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department has approved the sale to Taiwan of spare parts for F-16 fighter planes and other military aircraft worth up to $330 million, prompting China to warn on Tuesday that the move jeopardized Sino-U.S. cooperation.

    U.S. military sales to self-ruled Taiwan, which China claims as its territory, is an irritant in the relations between the world’s two largest economies. Taiwan would still need to finalize details of the sale with U.S. companies.

    “This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security and defensive capability of the recipient, which has been and continues to be an important force for political stability, military balance, and economic progress in the region,” the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement issued on Monday.

    Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that U.S. arms sales to Taiwan were a serious breech of international law and harmed Chinese sovereignty and security interests.

    China strongly opposes the planned arms sales and has already lodged “stern representations” with the United States, he told a daily news briefing in Beijing.

    HONG KONG/BEIJING (Reuters) – China has denied a request for a U.S. warship to visit Hong Kong, the U.S. consulate in the Chinese city said on Tuesday, amid rising tension between Beijing and Washington over trade and a U.S. decision to sanction the Asian nation’s military.

    The amphibious assault ship Wasp had been due to make a port call in the former British colony of Hong Kong in October, diplomatic sources said.

    “The Chinese Government did not approve a request for a U.S. port visit to Hong Kong by the USS Wasp,” a consulate spokeswoman said.

    “We have a long track record of successful port visits to Hong Kong, and we expect that to continue,” she added.

    In Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang did not directly answer a question on whether China had denied the request.

    “For requests for U.S. military ships to visit Hong Kong, China has always carried out approvals case by case, in accordance with the principle of sovereignty and the detailed situation,” he told reporters, without elaborating.

    In 2016, at a time of heightened tension over its territorial claims in the disputed South China Sea, China denied a request for a U.S. carrier strike group led by the John C. Stennis to visit Hong Kong.

  20. An annotated peek under the Carter Page FISA application redactions

    Last week, President Trump ordered the release – “unredaction” – of about 20 pages of the FBI’s June 2017 FISA application for surveillance of Carter Page. Within a few days, the Justice Department and FBI had secured from the White House an agreement to wait on further vetting of the information, a compromise widely interpreted as a walk-back by Trump.

    It may be a walk-back. Only time will tell us that. In the meantime, however, it is possible to narrow down what we are likely to see if we do get newly unredacted portions of the fourth and final FISA application on Carter Page.

    Andrew McCarthy posted a superb write-up at NRO on 14 September in which he demystified the contents of the FISA applications, clarifying that only a minor portion of each one deals with the foundation for probable cause. Most of each application is boilerplate that deals with administration of FISA operations. McCarthy narrowed down the segment of an application that would contain the variable material we are interested: the particulars of a case and the intelligence and other information that justifies requesting FISA surveillance.

    Although I did an initial vetting of the security markings on the FISA applications, I hadn’t looked at the package in that depth before, and am greatly indebted to McCarthy for his rigorous treatment.

    He observed, moreover, that the probable-cause section of the initial FISA application – the one he takes us through portion by portion – looks thin. That point comports well with my own impression that the national intelligence foundation apparently laid in the application looks thin.

    “A CAR ploughed into a crowd of children and their parents on a walk near Karlshamn, in Sweden, police revealed today. Two pupils were hurt with a police manhunt now underway.

    A spokesman for Sweden’s police service said children “threw themselves” out of the way of the car, which appeared to have aimed directly for the group of 100 people.

    He said: “The car accelerated into the group of students and teachers.

    “The car increased speed and drove straight towards them.

    “He drove into two of the students. One was injured on the wrist and possibly the other student was also injured.”

    Police have today appealed for any information on the horrifying incident, which took place at 1pm local time (12pm BST) yesterday.

    The group was made up of 100 children and 10 teachers from Mjallby secondary school.

    They were walking from Hinnedalsvagen to Grundsjon as part of a social event.

    The car was described as a black or dark blue Saab. It was driving at around 25mph when it hit the crowd.

    The driver fled the scene, police said.

    Witnesses were unable to identify whether the driver was male of female.

    Police are appealing for any information.

    “Bahrain charged 169 people on Tuesday with being part of a militant group they referred to as the “Bahraini Hezbollah,” the latest mass prosecution in the kingdom amid a yearslong crackdown on all dissent.

    Prosecutors said in a statement they already have 111 people in custody after a series of raids on the island nation off the coast of Saudi Arabia. Charges against suspects in the case range from attempted murder to damaging property, as well as illegally possessing and hiding weapons.

    It offered no names for the accused. It wasn’t immediately clear if they had legal counsel.

    Prosecutors also accused Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard of providing arms and training for the militants. Iran long has denied supplying militants in Bahrain. Iranian state media did not immediately acknowledge Bahrain’s accusation Tuesday…”

    “An international watchdog on Tuesday accused Yemen’s Shiite rebels, known as Houthis, of committing abuses including hostage taking, torture and enforced disappearances of people they hold in detention.

    New York-based Human Rights Watch said in a statement it documented 16 cases in which Houthi authorities held people unlawfully, largely to extort money from relatives or to exchange them for prisoners held by opposing forces.

    The New York-based group said Houthi officials have treated detainees brutally, often rising to the level of torture. It urged the rebels to put an end to the abuses.

    “The Houthis have added profiteering to their long list of abuses and offenses against the people under their control in Yemen,” Sarah Leah Whitson, HRW’s Middle East director, said in the report. “Some Houthi officials are exploiting their power to turn a profit through detention, torture, and murder.”

    • Richard: As the regular readers know I keep saying that Western Civilization and the rule of law are dead in all Western Nations. What is happening at the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing is another data point showing this, the 2016 election is probably the last one where there was a peaceful (well semi peaceful) exchange of power. The new norm is going to be riots and violence against the political opponents of the left, Violence that will eventually generate conservative retaliation to the leftist violence.

      This chaos and violence are the last bullets in the belt of the left (Hat Tip NR) but they are going to be powerful bullets with effects that last for a a long time. It is unlikely that there will be Martial Law since this requires either a wanna be Dictator in the White House or a total collapse of order in the US, but there will be times when the Governor of one or more States will call out the Guard to put down a riot. It is highly unlikely that they will succeed in seizing power but they will create a new normal of violence and attacks on all public figures they dislike.     “Two Afghan military officers who were in the US on a training mission reportedly went missing after they failed to board their flight home.

    The two were attending training at Camp Edwards in Massachusetts last week. More than 200 soldiers from five nations attended the joint exercises.

    The Afghans’ absence was noticed after their flight out of Boston’s Logan airport left without them on Saturday.

    In 2014, three Afghan officers also left the same training programme.

    Those three had vanished from a group outing at the Cape Cod Mall, and were later captured at the US-Canada border crossing in Niagara Falls.

    According to Boston 25 News, the two Afghan officers were transported to the airport on Saturday to catch their flight.

    The names of the two men have not been released.

    A BBC News email to the Massachusetts National Guard was not immediately returned on Tuesday.

    They had been attending “regional co-operation” training hosted by the US Department of Defense and the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

    Forces from Afghanistan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan were “afforded an opportunity to develop a combined military response to several scripted exercise scenarios,” the US military said in a statement.

    Last year’s training was hosted in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

    According to a 2017 report by the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, 13% of Afghan soldiers who trained in the US that year went absent without leave (Awol).

    “Given the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan and the fact that Afghan trainees who violate the terms of their visas suffer virtually no consequences for going Awol (except for the possible return to Afghanistan)… the Awol rate is likely to either remain steady or increase,” the inspector general wrote in the report, released in October 2017.”

    A police dog unit was also brought to the scene.

    One witness told the Sun: “We drove past and all hell was breaking loose.

Dianne Feinstein succeeded in disrupting the proceedings to enable a search for witnesses to corroborate the Ford accusation that a drunk, teenage Brett Kavanaugh groped her at a party 36 years ago. Mrs. Ford cannot remember where it was, when it was, who invited her to the party, how she got there or how she got home.

    Judge Kavanaugh repeated Monday his unequivocal insistence that it never happened, and the witnesses Mrs. Ford said could authenticate her story said they don’t know what she’s talking about. No lawyer would go into court with a case like that lest he be cited for mockery of the law. Mrs. Ford asked for an opportunity to tell her story, and the Republican majority on the committee has tried to oblige. Her date to tell the committee the story is finally scheduled for Thursday, but after several postponements to enable her to quibble over arrangements, no one can be sure she will show up. The emergence of a second woman with a similar tale of harassment without evidence further muddies the schedule.

    The last-minute accusations from Christine Blasey Ford, a woman who claims that decades ago Kavanaugh groped her at a high school party, and Deborah Ramirez, who accused Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her at a frat party at Yale, are transparent acts of aggression against the judge and Republicans, one engineered by the Democrats.

    Senator Dianne Feinstein sat for months on Ford’s letter and then––just as the Dems did in 1991with Anita Hill’s charges of sexual harassment against Clarence Thomas’s during his hearings––released it only when Kavanaugh appeared to be heading for confirmation. Feinstein still hasn’t given the Judiciary Committee an unredacted copy of the letter. A few weeks after Ford went public, and after Kavanaugh said he had dairies from that summer detailing his whereabouts, The New Yorker published Ramirez’s account of a drunken party filled with obscene drinking games where he exposed himself to Ramirez.

    What has gone virtually unreported, however, is the direct and instrumental role Castro played in the torture and murder of American POWs in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The story of Castro’s atrocities against American soldiers in this conflict is rarely ever told, least of all by our mainstream media.

    During the Vietnam War, Castro sent a gang of his henchmen to run the “Cuban Program” at the Cu Loc POW camp in Hanoi, which became known as “the Zoo.” As Stuart Rochester and Frederick Kiley have documented in their book Honor Bound in a chapter entitled “The Zoo, 1967–1969: The Cuban Program and Other Atrocities,” one of the primary objectives of this “program” was to determine how much physical and psychological agony a human being could withstand.

    Castro selected American POWs as his guinea pigs. A Cuban nicknamed “Fidel,” the main torturer at the Zoo, initiated his own personal reign of terror. He was described in documents based on POW debriefings as “a professional who was trained in psychology and prison control in Russia or Europe.”

    Among Fidel’s torture techniques were beatings and whippings over every part of his victims’ bodies, without remission.

    Kim Jong Un assembled a reported 100,000 people, many waving his North Korean flag or the blue-and-white unification standard, to greet Moon Jae-in, the president of South Korea, as he arrived in Pyongyang on September 18.

    President Moon did not seem to mind that no one was holding the symbol of his country, the Republic of Korea. “What was glaringly missing was the South Korean flag,” Taro O of the Pacific Forum told Gatestone in e-mailed comments. “Maybe South Korean people take comfort in seeing that Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong wore the South Korean flag badge on the lapel of his jacket while in North Korea. No one in the Moon administration did.”

    Nor did Moon himself. In fact, throughout the trip Moon went out of his way to downplay the legitimacy of the government he leads and the country he was elected to represent. As Ms. O observed, Moon on the trip often used “nam cheuk,” literally “south side” or “south,” when the custom has been for South Korean leaders to say “Hanguk,” literally “country of Han people.” Similarly, Moon while in the North said “nam cheuk gookmin.” That translates as “south side citizens.” South Korean presidents would normally use “uri gookmin,” literally “our citizens” and figuratively “my citizens.”

    In contrast, Kim Jong Un did not reciprocate Moon’s rhetorical gestures. During Moon’s visit, he used the communist term “uri inmin,” “our people” or “my people.”

    • The actions are troubling but until there is a fundamental change in the South Korean Conservatives and with their numbers dropping immensely there is no danger of North Korea taking control of South Korea. Also the South Korean Military while smaller then the North Korean military is much better, if the shooting started right now the South Korean military would go through the North like a hot knife through butter. There is no doubt that the South could take the North the big question is what would China do if they did? When China collapses the South will reunify Korea but until China collapses they are the wild card that is is stopping the reunification.

  46. Man Arrested Near Los Angeles With Two Active IEDs

    Saleh Ali, 47, is being charged with transportation and possession of destructive devices according to a press release by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

    KTLA reports:

    Saleh Ali was arrested Tuesday when a Brea police officer pulled him over at about 9 p.m. for having an expired registration on his vehicle, Brea Police Lt. Adam Hawley said.

    “During the traffic stop, the officer keyed in on a couple of suspicious items in the car he believed to be an explosive device,” Hawley said. “He detained the driver out of an abundance of caution, locked down a little bit of the area and called out sheriff’s bomb squad deputies.”

    The deputies destroyed the suspected explosive devices at the scene, Hawley said.

    Ali’s last known address is Salinas, California.

    Prosecutors say that the devices destroyed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad were “containers covered in shrapnel” and would have exploded had they come in contact with an ignition source.

    There is no evidence so far that shows any connection to a terrorist organization.

    The Orange County Intelligence Assessment Center was notified, however.

    KTLA also reports that Ali was previously arrested in June 2003 in New Jersey for aggravated assault with serious bodily injury and terrorist threats.

    Ali’s bail was set at $500,000 and a pre-trial hearing is set for this Friday, September 28. He is still being held in the Orange County Jail.

  50. Afghan ‘mullah’ faces stoning death over sex tapes scandal

    MAZAR-I-SHARIF: A self-proclaimed mullah in Afghanistan, who allegedly filmed himself having sex with women, is on the run after the videos went viral on social media, prompting religious leaders to order his death by stoning.

    Mullah Rasool, a traditional healer who wrote amulets for clients in a village in the northwestern province of Faryab, is accused of sexually exploiting and raping several women who had gone to him for help.

    Rasool, whose nickname is Landay, which means “Shorty” in Pashto, allegedly used the videos to blackmail the women.

    A number of videos began circulating on social media in recent weeks, but it is not clear when they were made or if they were filmed in Rasool’s village of Chinar in Pashtunkot district.

    In one video posted on Facebook, a bearded and turbaned man purported to be Rasool is seen loosening his white baggy trousers, clearly aroused. A young woman, still wearing her long dress and headscarf, removes her trousers and lays on a large floor cushion where they have sex.

    While the identities of the women are not yet known, their faces are visible in the videos, which have been viewed tens of thousands of times, raising fears for their safety in the deeply religious country.

    “We predict there will be honour killings,” Faryab governor spokesman Jawed Bidar told AFP.

    Provincial women’s affairs department head Sharifa Azimi said the women had been “tricked” and has urged religious leaders to tell their worshippers that they are “innocent victims, not bad women”. “We are very worried that they will be murdered,” Azimi told AFP.

    The body of a woman was found dumped in a ditch near Chinar village several days ago, but it has not yet been identified, Azimi added.

    Ghulam Nabi Ghafori, deputy head of the provincial Ulema Council. The videos and whereabouts of Rasool have become a major topic of conversation in Afghanistan where sex is a taboo subject and women are largely treated as second class citizens.

    Much of the commentary on social media has targeted Rasool, who has been described as “Satan” and a “porn star”. There have been calls for him to be hanged and his genitals cut off.

    But the scandal has also inspired a spoof on a popular television comedy show in which a character portraying Rasool fondles a male actor dressed up as a woman.

    A lack of conventional health services forces many to rely on healers for a variety of problems — from debilitating maladies and infertility to finding stolen items and reuniting lost lovers.

    To help police track down Rasool, provincial governor Naqibullah Faiq is offering his own car as a reward to anyone with information leading to his arrest.

    “He will be arrested. He has no place abroad,” Faiq told a recent gathering.
