South Yorkshire Police arrested a suspect after a person wielding a knife was reportedly spotted in Barnsley, putting the center on lockdown. One passerby was injured in the incident, according to police.
Police initially reported a “serious incident” Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on Saturday morning, asking residents to stay vigilant. It came after reports of a stabbing on the town center.
It was later confirmed that a man suffered minor injuries after the incident and that a suspect was put in custody. The arrested person identity has not been revealed and investigators are trying to understand whether it was an isolated incident.

As facial recognition technology use generates intense scrutiny, a new system unveiled at Washington’s Dulles airport is being touted as a “user friendly” way to help ease congestion for air travelers.
Officials at Dulles unveiled two new face recognition systems Thursday, one to meet legal requirements for biometric entry-exit records, and a second to help speed processing of travelers arriving on international flights by matching their real-time images with stored photos.
The growing use of facial recognition has ignited debate over surveillance and privacy around the world, but officials told media this system was a way to help reducing annoying lines and wait times without compromising security.
“The technology works,” US Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan told reporters at an airport unveiling.
“It’s fast, it’s user-friendly, it’s flexible and it’s cost-effective. And we believe it will change the face of international travel.”
Over time, officials say the biometric recognition system will allow a traveler’s face to eliminate the need for a boarding pass.
“No more fumbling with your boarding pass when you have two carry-ons, maybe a kid, no more trying to find a QR code or trying the refresh your screen,” McAleenan said.
In one test for the system, McAleenan said the boarding 350 passengers for an Airbus A380 aircraft was completed in 20 minutes, or half the normal time.
At Dulles, officials showed how the new systems, operated with iPads mounted on poles, identified and matched the image of travelers during the boarding process.

Assaults on ICE agents reached a decade high in 2017, and assaults on Border Patrol agents have also surged in recent years, according to new government numbers that seem to back up agents’ claims that illegal immigrants are increasingly looking to fight rather than flee.
The new numbers, reported by Homeland Security’s inspector general, could even be underselling the problem, investigators said, because the government doesn’t do a good job of tracking incidents, and agents and officers don’t always report them properly.
But the report does signal renewed danger particularly on the southwest border, where agents say a surge in illegal immigration in recent years generally correlates with growing violence.
Prosecutors, meanwhile, often refuse to bring charges or win cases against the perpetrators, the audit found.
At the border, the most frequent method of attack was projectiles — usually large rocks — which accounted for half of assaults. But bombs, clubs, knives, guns and even laser pointers to blind agents have all been used.

“An Afghan refugee, who arrived in Germany in 2015, has been sentenced according to juvenile law, as the court determined that he was about 17 years old.
An asylum seeker from Afghanistan was sentenced to seven years in prison by Darmstadt regional court for stabbing his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend with a knife after she broke up with him.
The bloody incident occurred shortly before Christmas last year. Having said that Levi lost most of their moderate and conservative customers several years ago when they came out and supported homosexual boy scout leaders so there will not be much if any effect on their bottom line. Canada wants Afghan envoy’s son arrested in rape case
KABUL (Pajhwok): Canada has formally asked the Afghan government to allow the arrest of a son of the Afghanistan acting ambassador to that country for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
A credible source told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mehdi Arash Yama, son of Nader Yama, the Afghanistan charge de affairs in Canada, allegedly raped the Canadian girl in late February, 2018.
Arash Yama was above 18 years of age when he was expelled from school after the case. Nader Yama kept the case secret for five months and had hired a lawyer, the source added.
“After Nader Yama refused to hand his son over to the Canadian government for investigation hiding behind diplomatic immunity, the Canadian government in protest shared the issue with the Afghanistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and gave the Afghan government a deadline to either submit the offender or they would act directly and end the diplomatic impunity,” the official said.
Another official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who also wished to go unnamed, said Arash Yama’s case had reached the ministry.
“The son of Nader Yama is accused of raping a 16 years old girl in his father’s vehicle with diplomatic number plate. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a letter about the case from the Canadian government on July 25, 2018,” the source said.
In the letter, the Canadian government has requested an end to the diplomatic impunity enjoyed by the family member of the Afghanistan Charge de Affairs, Nader Yama, and his son be submitted to police for investigation, the source added.
The official said the ministry wanted to extend legal support to Nader Yama, but he had already hired a lawyer for the case. He said the son of Nader Yama has surrendered to police and he is currently under investigation.
Pajhwok Afghan News also obtained a copy of the letter the Canadian police had sent to the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The letter (XDC-9298) was sent to the foreign ministry on June 20. The letter requests the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to submit Arash Yama for police investigation.
On June 27, Ottawa police sent a second email to the Afghanistan Embassy in Canada and said they did not receive a response to the letter (XDC-9298).
The email said Arash Yama’s lawyer had talked to police investigators about the case but police wanted Arash Yama to be present in the investigation and the Afghan Embassy should cooperate in the matter.
But Sibghatullah Ahmadi, foreign ministry spokesman, told Pajhwok that the issue had not yet been shared with the ministry.
“If such a case is happened, it is personal, it does not relate to our diplomat, but his son should be responsible,” he said.
Pajhwok tried to contact Nader Yama and Canadian police for details, but neither side responded.
The Afghanistan law on Combating Human and Migrant Trafficking considers sexual assault as one of serious human trafficking issues and recommends up to more than 12 years in jail punishment for the offender.
The Afghanistan penalty code article 429 says if the victim of a sexual assault is aged less than 18 years, the perpetrator is sentenced to 10 years in jail.
According to 271st article of the Canadian penal code, if the victim is immature, the perpetrator is sentenced to two to four years in jail, but if the victim is physically harmed, then the punishment is extended.

Investigators needed permission from Afghan government to speak to suspect
A case being investigated by Ottawa police’s sexual assault and child abuse unit was delayed until police could get permission from the Afghan government to speak to the suspect, the teenage son of a high-ranking diplomat?, CBC News has learned.
Under international protocol, Global Affairs Canada had to seek a waiver of diplomatic immunity from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul to allow Ottawa police to question the diplomat’s son.
Diplomatic immunity is not usually extended to family members unless the representative is from the senior ranks.
This permission through international channels was recently granted. The diplomat’s son has obtained a prominent criminal defence lawyer but has yet to be interviewed by police.
The complainant is a Canadian citizen and a high school student, sources tell CBC News. The incident was first reported in an online Afghan news service.
2nd waiver would be needed for arrest
If charges are warranted after an investigation, police would once again have to ask Global Affairs Canada to intervene to request a second waiver from Kabul to make an arrest.
Ottawa police said they do not comment on open investigations.
CBC News has requested comment from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, but has yet to receive a response.
The 1961 Vienna Convention outlines the rules of diplomatic law and prevents host countries from using their laws to pressure foreign representatives. The convention requires diplomats to obey the laws of their host country, but the only punishment permitted is expulsion unless immunity is waived.
The most controversial use of diplomatic immunity to avoid prosecution involves the 2001 death of Ottawa lawyer Catherine MacLean.
MacLean was killed on Jan. 27, 2001, when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a drunk Russian diplomat.
Andrei Knyazev had claimed diplomatic immunity after the collision and returned to Moscow within days of the incident.
He was later found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Moscow.

DUSHANBE — The mother of a Tajik man who is suspected of carrying out a fatal attack against a group of foreign cyclists in the Central Asian country in July poured gasoline on herself outside the Dushanbe office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Shodmonova was protesting the participation of the leader of the banned Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT), Muhiddin Kabiri, in a human-rights conference sponsored by the OSCE.
Shodmonova and the Tajik authorities have accused Kabiri of influencing her son, Hussein Abdusamadov, and leading him astray.
Abdusamadov was detained on July 31 and is accused of being the “cell leader” of a group of five Tajik men suspected of carrying out the July 29 attack on a highway some 120 kilometers from Dushanbe, in which a car rammed into the group of cyclists before multiple attackers emerged from the vehicle and stabbed survivors, killing two Americans, a Swiss, and a Dutch national. Recent headlines have focused on emerging troubles in Turkey, or earnings beats by U.S. retailers, but it is China that will ultimately have the strongest influence on global capital markets. How long will investors ignore the building signs of trouble.
2018 is the Year of the Dog, and while Chinese custom may associate the dog with good fortune, the People’s Republic has been performing like a dog so far this year. Not many are focusing about the seeming economic deterioration in China, however.
Instead, recent weeks headlines have been filled with salvos in the trade wars, trillion dollar companies, earnings season trends, and angst over emerging market currency woes and protracted geopolitical tensions. And rightly so, these are all important issues for investors to consider as they represent myriad risks to capital.
But the disappointing economic numbers out of China and the dreadful performance of the Chinese stock market has been seemingly lost among the noise, despite the fact that the consequences of a negative shock event emanating from China would be many times larger than any fall out from a plummeting Turkish lira, or cooling of big tech bull runs.
Global markets traversed the 2017 to 2018 transition on a near parabolic trajectory before finally succumbing to significant volatility in February.

The far left is continually pushing the idea of how strong the Chinese economy is, just as they pushed the idea of how strong the economy of the Soviet Union was. We all know how that ended, now China has pushed to far and we have a President who is willing to push back even harder, China is falling and with luck the Chinese Communist Party will lose control of China. If, I repeat if China does fall this will cause the fall of North Korea and will cause the collapse of the Chinese Colonies in Africa and their attempts to gain economic control of Australia, New Zealand, Africa and South America.

The murder of a German citizen by two failed asylum seekers in Chemnitz, and the attempted cover-up by German police, has contributed to a surge in support for the anti-immigration party Alternative for Germany (AfD), which, according to a new poll, has overtaken the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to become the second-strongest political force in Germany.
Support for the AfD has increased to 17%, while backing for the SPD has fallen to 16%. Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU)/Christian Social Union (CSU) alliance is at 28.5%, according to an Insa Institute poll published by the newspaper Bild on September 3.
