The Lebanese Armed Forces won’t do more to confront Hezbollah because the two groups are fundamentally allied
Western intelligence sources have revealed that in July and August Iran used a civilian airliner to fly arms to Hezbollah directly through Beirut International Airport. That would be right after the United States completed the delivery of light attack aircraft to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in June, and right before a high-ranking CENTCOM delegation visited Lebanon in mid-August.
On both occasions, U.S. officials praised the LAF as the “defender of Lebanon’s borders”—a cringeworthy line that captures the painful silliness of U.S. policy. The LAF will not confront a group with which it enjoys close relations and that effectively controls the Lebanese government, from which it takes its orders.
While the U.S. government justifies its policy in Lebanon with lines about strengthening Lebanese “state institutions,” the basic flaw in this approach undermines every aspect of policy towards the country.…
The reason Hezbollah continues to be able to fly in Iranian planes loaded with weapons straight into Beirut airport has nothing to do with absence of state authority, or lack of LAF capacity. Rather, the theory undergirding U.S. policy, which posits a dichotomy between the Lebanese government and Hezbollah, simply has no relation to the reality of Lebanon. The LAF will never take action to prevent Hezbollah’s arms smuggling, because it will never be asked to by the Lebanese government, regardless of how much we “professionalize” it or build up its capacity.
What this also means is that Lebanon is not a “terrorist safe haven.” It’s actually something worse.

BREITBART – Afghan Prez Tells Germany Not to Become a ‘Fortress’, Low Birth-Rate Europe Needs Migrants
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has told Germany that it should not become a “fortress” to his nation’s migrants, reminding the country that Europe is in demographic decline and needs foreign labour.
The president of formerly war-torn Afghanistan told Bild that he is “delighted” that so many Afghans had fled his country “straight from camps” to Germany to become “leading doctors, engineers, computer experts, and others”.
Dodging the question from the German tabloid’s reporter whether it was safe for his citizens to return home, President Ghani said that “Safety in Afghanistan is a very difficult notion to define,” and implied that each migrant decides “psychologically, morally” if it is safe for them to return.
In 2017, Germany logged 16,423 asylum applications from Afghan nationals — the third highest after Syria and Iraq — while granting refugee status, subsidiary protection, and humanitarian protection to a total of 51,169 who can stay in the country. Some 56,722 applications were rejected.
However, Germany does not have a strong record for successful deportations of failed asylum seekers after it was revealed that the country had failed to deport some 21,000 migrants last year.
The Bild reporter raised the issue of Germans’ increasing scepticism about the ability of third world migrants to integrate, with President Ghani asserting in response: “Germany cannot become a fortress.”
Evoking a post-Nazi Germany, the Afghan said that the country had “fundamentally transformed itself” and told Germans to judge Afghan migrants by their “successes” — not the standard set by the many who have been convicted of acts of murder, rape, or terrorism.
“Germany stands for me as a beacon of hope, and as a beacon of social integration and economic growth, and also compassion – human compassion,” Ghani told the tabloid, adding that he thinks “the third generation of Afghans is really likely to come back and transform this country”.
Asked whether he thought German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to unilaterally open the continent’s floodgates to a pledged unlimited number of migrants in 2015 had spurred on the migrant crisis, the Afghan leader said that he believed Merkel was taking her “classic approach” and made a “rational decision” given Europe’s declining population and declared that “Society’s capacity for absorption is much greater than fear-mongers believe.“
“You see, the issue that Europe does not confront is the system of demography. You don’t have the birth-rate to underwrite your social policies. You need labour. You need the injection of a younger generation,” he said.
The Afghan leader’s optimism over the contributions his people can make in Europe comes against a backdrop of protest in the German city of Chemnitz where locals have been protesting the murder of Germans by illegals, migrants, and asylum seekers. They took place in the same week that a migrant, reportedly an Afghan, was convicted of murdering his German 15-year-old ex-girlfriend out of jealously and revenge because she had broken up with him.

“A Green Party local leader has stepped down after his role as mediator in a proposed voter scam involving a mosque and up to 3,000 votes was revealed.
The Conservative Party in the Swedish town of Botkyrka has been offered thousands of Muslim votes in exchange for a new building permit for Alby Mosque. Remarkably, the contacts were communicated by a senior member of their archrivals, the Green Party, national broadcaster SVT reported.
According to SVT, Conservative councilwoman Stina Lundgren and her secretary’s visit to Alby Mosque in June took an unexpected turn, when they were told that the Islamic community could give them as many as 3,000 extra votes in the upcoming election, should they agree to grant building permits for a new mosque. Local imams would then urge the congregation to vote Conservative during Friday prayers.
The Conservatives revealed that the meeting had been arranged by the Greens leader in Botkyrka Ali Khalil.
“People visit the mosque every Friday, and this audience is very responsive to the imam. Once he says ‘It’s our judgment that the Conservatives are the best choice for us, they are listening to our problems, they have promised to fight them and secure our existence,’ then the people will do it,” Khalil explained the affair in a secretly recorded conversation.
In another meeting with the representatives of the mosque followed by an SVT journalist pretending to be a party colleague, the church leader promised to generate 500 to 1,000 votes at short notice.
“Needless to say, we were completely shocked. We did not expect it at all,” Stina Lundgren said. Her party rejected the offer, despite spending 24 years in opposition in the “red-green” municipality.
“This is a variant of political corruption. It is direct voice purchase in its clearest form,” political scientist Bo Rothstein said. According to him, this phenomenon is not illegal per se, but is quite widespread in other parts of the world where democratic traditions are weak. By his own admission, he is not aware of similar cases in Sweden.
Even more confounding is a political opponent acting as a mediator.
“This indicates a dramatic loss of party loyalty in this municipality,” he said.
Following the scandal, the Green Party informed that Ali Khalil will abandon all assignments within the party and the municipality. Until recently, Khalil served as vice president of the labor market and adult education board.
“We’re distancing ourselves from his actions, this is unheard of. This is a shock to all of us,” a Greens secretary in Botkyrka told the Nyheter Idag news outlet…”

While being Muslims themselves, the Ahmadis believe their founder Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is a subordinate prophet. Pakistan’s Sunni majority largely sees this as a breach of one of Islam’s tenets, namely that Prophet Muhammad was the last one God relayed his messages to.
The decision was announced on Friday by Senator Faisal Javed Khan, who tweeted a replacement would be announced later in the day. Minister of Information, Fawad Chaudhry, confirmed the PTI government had withdrawn the appointment in a bid to fend off division, DAWN reports.
Mian is understood to have accepted the request for him to step down from the key role.

Francken told RTBF Friday that he was shocked by the report. He said he knew of the group, “but I didn’t know that there were such extreme elements in this organization.”

Jair Bolsonaro, the far-right frontrunner in next month’s Brazilian presidential election, is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed while campaigning.
Bolsonaro was taken to hospital in the town of Juiz de Fora, about 125 miles (200km) north of Rio de Janeiro, after he was stabbed by a man who rushed up to him while he was being carried through a crowd on the shoulders of a supporter.
He was in a serious but stable condition after injuries to his abdomen, surgeons at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia hospital said.

Shocking footage showed the moment election hopeful Jair Bolsonaro was knifed in the stomach in the midst of a crowd in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, south east Brazil.
The 63-year-old has since been transferred to intensive care after undergoing a procedure for serious internal injuries and is now stable and out of ‘acute and immediate danger’.
A 40-year-old suspect, identified by police as Adélio Bispo de Oliveira, has been arrested over the attack with police saying he appeared to be mentally disturbed and had claimed he was ‘on a mission from God’.
Oliveira was said to be a member of the left-leaning PSOL party from 2007 to 2014. On his Facebook page, the attacker recently posted messages criticizing Bolsonaro and supporting the socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

Authorities on both sides of the Atlantic have begun talking to parents on targetted flights from countries where the abuse is practised to inform them that it is illegal.

Amanda Reid, from the UK Border Force’s safeguarding and modern slavery unit, told Sky News: “We’re here to send that message that FGM is a criminal act and that we want to protect girls.”

An outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in two eastern provinces of Congo has spread to a major international trading hub with almost a million residents, Congolese health officials said Wednesday.

I was a great fan of his, but more a fan of his greatest movie and the writer of that movie, James Dickey. Deliverance delivered unto us a compound character divided four ways. Mexican authorities discovered at least 166 bodies at a mass grave site in Veracruz state, prosecutors said Thursday, the latest horrifying find in a region hit by bloody drug cartel turf wars.
Home to the city of Veracruz, one of Mexico’s largest ports, the eastern state has a history of corrupt politics and grisly power struggles between rival cartels — a toxic mix that has caused an explosion of violence.
“The remains of at least 166 people have been found” in the latest mass grave site discovered in Veracruz, state prosecutor Jorge Winckler told journalists, making it one of the largest such sites so far.
The grave is located in central Veracruz, but authorities are not releasing the exact location for security reasons, he said. Forensic specialists are still working at the scene.

NEW YORK (AP) — Twitter permanently banned right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his Infowars show for abusive behavior, a day after CEO Jack Dorsey testified before Congress about alleged bias against conservatives on the platform.
The company said Jones won’t be able to create new accounts on Twitter or take over any existing ones. In a tweet, it said it would continue to monitor reports about other accounts potentially associated with Jones or Infowars, and will “take action” if it finds any attempts to circumvent the ban.

On Thursday, news broke that right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was permanently banned from Twitter after a confrontation he had with CNN reporter Oliver Darcy. What made this incident strange is that some media outlets actually reported on the ban before Twitter announced it. In other words, they knew about Jones’s ban before he himself did.
The Gateway Pundit’s Cassandra Fairbanks laid out the basic timeline: “Twitter announced the ban at 4:47 pm EST and CNN published an article about it simultaneously, tweeting it at exactly 4:47 as well.”
Additionally, she noted that “Buzzfeed and Daily Beast tweeted their reports two minutes prior to the announcement at 4:45, AP tweeted it at 4:46, and the New York Times had a full article published by 4:58.”
And, she added, Fox News received no advance press release and did not publish their story until an hour after the announcement.

In the decade after the 9/11 attacks, the New York City Police Department moved to put millions of New Yorkers under constant watch. Warning of terrorism threats, the department created a plan to carpet Manhattan’s downtown streets with thousands of cameras and had, by 2008, centralized its video surveillance operations to a single command center. Two years later, the NYPD announced that the command center, known as the Lower Manhattan Security Coordination Center, had integrated cutting-edge video analytics software into select cameras across the city.
The video analytics software captured stills of individuals caught on closed-circuit TV footage and automatically labeled the images with physical tags, such as clothing color, allowing police to quickly search through hours of video for images of individuals matching a description of interest. At the time, the software was also starting to generate alerts for unattended packages, cars speeding up a street in the wrong direction, or people entering restricted areas.

Turkey jails filmmaker for movie portraying execution of Erdogan
ANKARA, Sept 7 (Reuters) – A Turkish filmmaker was convicted on Friday of membership of a terrorist group for a feature film that portrayed President Tayyip Erdogan having a gun pointed at his head as his family lay dead all around him, the state news agency said.
Ali Avci was arrested last year after the release of a trailer for his film “Awakening”, based on a failed military putsch in 2016 in which more than 250 people were killed.
The trailer caused public uproar with sequences showing Erdogan’s family, including his son-in-law, Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, shot dead, and an army officer pointing a gun at the back of the president’s head as he prayed.
An Istanbul court sentenced Avci to 6 years and three months in jail for belonging to the network of U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, deemed a terrorist organisation by Turkey. Gulen denies Turkey’s accusation that he masterminded the coup attempt.
The court said Avci had been carrying out “public perception management in line with the core goals of the terrorist organisation” through his movie.

As much as I would like to put a clever title on this, it seems better to simply state the phenomenon clearly. It’s a real pattern, one you can see if you step back from narrow investment in one narrative or another, and just watch what happens.
Back in 2016, I observed a different but related pattern that I dubbed “Trump truth.” Trump would say something that everyone said was off the wall, wasn’t based on evidence, could be easily dismissed — and then, within days, the terms of discussion were actually Trump’s and not the media’s, and evidence itself even started coming out. It wasn’t off the wall anymore. Trump articulated things others weren’t willing to say, and the debate changed. (Other examples are here and here.)
Another related, but not identical, phenomenon was followed by our Ben Bowles and Howard Portnoy last year, when they traced the fortunes of a group of psychiatrists who agitated to remove Trump from office for supposed mental instability — even though none of them had ever examined the president. To make this push, the psychiatrists had to violate the ethics of their profession, and they got called out for it.

It’s no accident that a liberal group that calls itself Antifa (short for anti-fascist) would take root under the presidency of Donald Trump. In fact it’s almost inevitable. Among all the other pejoratives hurled at the president supposedly by a senior official in the administration who has chosen to remain anonymous — amoral, impetuous, adversarial, unstable — is the Left’s go-to descriptor, tyrant.
It’s not just a bunch of unschooled liberal wackos who think Trump dreams of being an emperor. It’s schooled ones, too, such as Politico’s Edward-Isaac Dovere, who teased an article in June with the subhead “In the three years since he first descended his golden escalator to announce his presidential bid, Trump has made clear he yearns for fealty along with authority.” Dovere goes on to chronicle Trump’s admiration for Kim Jong Un (“He speaks, and his people sit up at attention”), Vladimir Putin, Rodrigo Duterte, and other world leaders he seeks to emulate and whose absolute power he envies.
No wonder the Left is horrified. And make no mistake: It’s not just Donald Trump that scares them. Recall the warning of then-Vice President Joe Biden in 2012, when the man running for his boss’s job on the Republican side was the soft-spoken Mitt Romney: “They’re gonna put y’all back in chains.”
The “they” Biden had in mind was the white community. I recently saw this phrase for the first time, used in a Twitter promo for an article at the HuffPost on the Nike/Kaepernick kerfuffle:

A Republican Party office in Laramie, Wyoming, caught fire early Thursday morning just days after it opened, The Daily Caller News Foundation learned.
The fire appears to have been set intentionally, Laramie Police Department spokesman Steve Morgan told TheDCNF.
The local police department is cooperating with the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) in the ongoing investigation, Morgan said, adding that authorities have not yet identified a suspect or a motive for the fire.
The burnt office is shared by the Albany County Republican Party and the Wyoming College Republicans, who began moving in on Tuesday, less than 48 hours before the fire, Albany GOP spokesman Ben McKay said.

Italy’s anti-immigration Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has managed to dominate almost the entire first 100 days of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s government, which are marked on Saturday.
When Salvini’s League formed a government with the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) on June 1st, it was the first time a purely populist administration held power in a founding member of the European Union.
After March elections, Salvini’s party seemed destined to play second fiddle in the coalition, with just 17 percent of votes compared with M5S’s 32 percent.
Instead, Salvini managed to be treated as an equal in deciding on the government’s programme and make-up, and since then has endlessly repeated his anti-immigrant mantra in the press and, especially, on social media.
“These first 100 days appear to mark more the end of the election campaign than the beginning of a new government,” Sergio Fabbrini, political science lecturer at Rome’s Luiss University, told AFP.
Within days of becoming interior minister, Salvini implemented his campaign promise to close Italian ports to immigrants and asylum seekers, starting with 600 plucked from the Mediterranean by NGO boat Aquarius, which was instead forced to take them to Valencia in Spain.
The crisis was only resolved after a meeting between Conte and his “friend” French President Emmanuel Macron, one of the few times that Conte asserted his independence from Salvini.
Conte, a politically unknown law professor, was chosen for the job by Salvini and fellow Deputy Prime Minister and M5S leader Luigi di Maio. Conte was deemed a neutral outsider, albeit ideologically closer to M5S.
With some now seeing Salvini as a future premier, Conte is keeping his options open, and might yet return to a prestigious university role.
Meanwhile, Salvini is gobbling up airtime, column inches and social media clicks with his anti-immigrant diatribes, stirring up Italians’ feelings of insecurity and growing euroscepticism.

More than 60 percent of Italians approve of the new government’s hardline anti-immigration policy and opinion polls now predict 30 percent of votes for the League, overtaking even M5S.
Salvini, 45, has dictated the government agenda, to the detriment of Di Maio, 31.
Di Maio tried to regain the upper hand over the summer, also lashing out at the European Union over another boatload of migrants, aboard the Diciotti. “The European Union has decided to turn its back on Italy once again,” Di Maio complained at the end of August, threatening to cut Rome’s funding for the bloc.
In the run-up to the 2019 budget, the two men elected on anti-austerity platforms have toned down their attacks and promised to respect the eurozone stability pact by keeping Italy’s public deficit at less than 3 percent of GDP. The precise target for next year’s deficit is not yet known, although Salvini and Di Maio have previously said they could break the rules to fulfil campaign promises.
Meanwhile, there has also been some governmental flip-flopping, such as suspending obligatory child vaccinations at the start of August before reversing course just before classes resumed.
Nor have any of their main campaign promises made it into law, including a low-rate “flat tax” of 15-20 percent promised by the League and the “citizen’s income” of €780 a month promised by M5S.

Un’asse populista caldeggiata dal produttore cinematografico statunitense, che stamattina a Roma ha di nuovo posato con il capo del Carroccio che, nel frattempo è diventato vicepremier e ministro dell’Interno.
All’incontro tra i due c’è anche Mischael Modrikamen, uno dei fondatori di The Movement, la fondazione anti-Soros che mira a riunire le forze euroscettiche e nazionaliste, in vista delle prossime elezioni europee del 2019. È proprio Modrikamer a postare la foto su Twitter, con tanto di annuncio dell’adesione di Salvini alla nuova organizzazione no-profit, che secondo un’intervista di Bannon al The Daily Beast, si occuperà di lavorare, con analisi e raccolte fondi, per la crescita dei “partiti populisti” europei.
“Incontro stamattina con Steve Bannon e Matteo Salvini. The Movement: è dei nostri”, recita la didascalia pubblicata sul profilo di Modrikamen. Sono ancora pochi i dettagli che circolano sull’incontro. Di certo, per ora, c’è l’obiettivo della fondazione: supportare “l’internazionale populista” nel percorso verso la conquista del Parlamento europeo a maggio del 2019. Una Open Society al contrario, insomma, che mira a far ottenere un risultato elettorale storico ai partiti cosiddetti anti-sistema.

Elections don’t work in third world countries because the party with the most leverage over the machinery of government just overturns the results. That’s exactly what the Democrats have been trying to do to Trump even during the election.
Impeachment is not a mechanism for removing a government that the legislature now opposes. That’s what you have in parliamentary systems. Impeachment is meant to address serious crimes committed by the head of state. The Dems began pushing impeachment before Trump even took office. That’s not what impeachment is for. It’s a blatant abuse of a constitutional mechanism to stage a coup.
And using it, would be a third world tactic.
