  1. JNS.org – Iran admitted on Sunday that it worked closely with the Open Society Foundation, a grant-making network founded by American billionaire George Soros, who has often been accused of promoting an anti-Israeli agenda through left-wing NGOs.

During a question and answer session before the Iranian parliament, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the Iranian regime’s work with the OSF predated his tenure. According to the BBC, he said that he has managed to “restrict and regulate it.”

According to a report published by Israel’s Strategic Affairs Ministry, Soros has backed a large number of groups affiliated with the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, which seeks to isolate Israel. The groups have been blacklisted by Israel and their activists are barred from entering the country.

In 2016, Soros was found to have donated millions to Palestinian and Israeli organizations that set out to delegitimize Israel through US and EU advocacy.

Over the years, he has also supported left-wing organizations in Israel such as Breaking the Silence and the New Israel Fund through the OSF, according to the watchdog group NGO Monitor.

  2. NORWEGIAN ARMY CHIEF: Europe Needs To Destroy Islam If They Are Going To Survive
    August 21, 2018 admin 0 Comments
Norwegian Army Chief Odin Johannessen warns that European countries must be reading and willing to fight against radical Islam in order to preserve the values that unite the continent.“I think we must be ready to fight, both with words, actions – and if necessary weapons – to preserve the country and the values we have in common,” Johannessen said in a speech to the Oslo Military Society on Monday. Citing the Islamist attacks in Paris, Johannessen said that, “Europe can no longer expect to live in peace and security, without having to defend its interests and values.” The military chief went on to insist that well trained and adequately equipped soldiers would be crucial. “You can not win wars without having people on the ground,” he asserted. Johannessen’s remarks mirror similar sentiments expressed by other military officials in Europe.

“The Taliban say the Afghan Haqqani network founder, Jalaluddin Haqqani, an ex- U.S. ally turned fierce enemy, has died after years of ill health.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Tuesday that Haqqani died on Monday inside Afghanistan.

The elderly founder of Afghanistan’s outlawed Haqqani network had been paralyzed for the past 10 years.

The Haqqani network was declared a terrorist organization by the United States in 2012.

Haqqani had not been heard from in several years, and reports of his death had been widespread in 2015.

In announcing Haqqani’s death Tuesday, Mujahed called him a religious scholar and exemplary warrior.”

    • Germany: ‘Stand Up’ movement launched to combat right-wing extremism

A new movement that seeks to fight against right-wing extremism in Germany was launched by left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht today at a press conference in Berlin on Tuesday.

Wagenknecht, one of leaders of ‘Aufstehen’ (‘Stand Up’), said the new left-wing movement was born out of increasing social divisions and aggression in Germany.

She said that far-right extremism and violence in Chemnitz in recent days demonstrated that there is a “substantial crisis of German democracy.”

The new movement will reach out to people who had joined right-wing parties such as the AfD and PEGIDA out of a sense of dissatisfaction and feeling unrepresented in the Bundestag, according to Wagenknecht.

Wagenknecht was joined by the Flensburg Mayor, Simon Lange, Head of the Alliance 90/ Green Party Dr. Ludger Volmer, the dramaturge Prof. Dr. Bernd Stegemann and the movement’s co-founder Hans Albers.

  7. I had an opportunity to watch some of the “new” Jack Ryan TV show (2 episodes only …I was at an friend’s home) and while the main character was okay although a little too over ethical (pointless WRT islam and jihadis), the overall tone of the show was far too kind to islam and muslims (Greer is now a muslim *vomits*) and the leftist bias has IMO ruined a potentially good show. This kind of rubbish is just another facet of media misinformation and the show starts with Israelis bombing the Bekaa valley and so, naturally it is all their fault(yet to find this out but why put it in?). Amazon/Facebook/Google are all globaloleftist clones and can never be trusted. TV viewing quality is at an all time low and now even payTV has gone the disinformation way.

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo warned American nationals to avoid the compound in Egypt’s capital city on Tuesday after a security incident outside. Local media reports said a man was taken into police custody after trying to blow up an explosive device, and was found to be in possession of a firearm.

The reports, which remain unconfirmed, said there was second explosive device found near the embassy.

The embassy said in a statement posted to its official Facebook account that it was “aware of reports that public transportation near the area has been disrupted due to the incident” and it urged American nationals to “exercise caution.”

“U.S. Citizens should not come to the Embassy at this time,” the statement said.

  9. Four women who used to work for Nike have filed a federal lawsuit against the sporting goods giant, alleging it violated state and federal equal-pay laws and fostered a work environment that allowed sexual harassment.

The suit was filed Thursday in Portland, The Oregonian reports, and is among the first to hit Nike following complaints about alleged pay disparities and bad managers made public earlier this year. Nike in this spring ousted at least 11 executives in connection with the accusations of inappropriate behavior.

Laura Salerno Owens, an attorney who represents the plaintiffs, said Nike continues to have a “good-old-boys culture” in which women enter the company with lower pay, and receive smaller raises and bonuses.

“I think Nike wants to say that ‘Just a couple people were responsible for the problem and we’ve gotten rid of them.’ But we know that’s certainly not the case,” Owens said.

The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura and his Special Advisor, Jan Egeland, held a press conference (vid) today. They appealed to the Russian President Putin and President Erdogan of Turkey to find a solution for Idleb province that would avoid the upcoming Syrian army attack on the province ruled by al-Qaeda.

De Mistura claimed that there are 2.9 million civilians in the area. That number is nonsense. In 2011 Idleb governorate had a population of 1.5 million. Several hundred thousands of those, Christians, Alawites, government employees, soldiers and their families, fled when in 2015 al-Qaeda and its Free Syrian Army allies attacked and occupied it. […]

There are two large groups of “rebels” in Idleb.

Turkey’s favourite is the NLF, which is led by Fadlallah al-Hajji, a Muslim Brotherhood ally. The NLF includes Turkey-friendly Islamists like Ahrar al-Sham, the Noureddine al-Zengi Brigades, Failaq al-Sham, Jaish al-Ahrar, and groups that fought under the Free Syrian Army banner […]

The second, larger, and even more brutal group is the alliance around HTS under its leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani. It includes several thousand Uyghur and Chechen fighters[…]

HTS and its allies must have some 15-25,000 fighters

the groups aligned with Turkey may have a slightly lower number, some are locals and they are probably less willing to fight.

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura asked the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to talk and find a ‘soft solution’ for Idlib, at a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday.

“Our appeal, if I may to President Putin and to President Erdogan, to talk and go beyond perhaps technical discussions, and find a solution which can be a soft solution to this crisis,” stressed De Mistura.

The UN envoy also warned against a bombardment against Idlib, the last militant stronghold in Syria. He echoed an earlier statement by US President Donald Trump warning that an assault on Idlib would be “a grave humanitarian mistake”.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has recently advanced into areas surrounding Idlib Governorate, in preparation for a final offensive on militant-held positions.

  10. Russia says space station leak could be deliberate sabotage

Russia launched checks Tuesday after its space chief said an air leak on the International Space Station last week could have been caused by deliberate sabotage.

Space agency chief Dmitry Rogozin said the hole detected Thursday in a Russian space craft docked at the orbiting station was caused by a drill and could have been done deliberately, either back on Earth or in space.

Astronauts used tape to seal the leak after it caused a small loss of pressure that was not life-threatening.

“There were several attempts at drilling,” Rogozin said late Monday in televised comments.

He added that the drill appeared to have been held by a “wavering hand.”

“What is this: a production defect or some premeditated actions?” he asked.

“We are checking the Earth version. But there is another version that we do not rule out: deliberate interference in space.”

A commission will seek to identify the culprit by name, Rogozin said, calling this a “matter of honour” for Russia’s Energiya space manufacturing company that made the Soyuz.

Previously Rogozin had said the hole in the side of the Soyuz ship used to ferry astronauts was most likely caused from outside by a tiny meteorite.

“We have already ruled out the meteorite version,” Rogozin said late Monday.

The hole is in a section of the Soyuz ship that will not be used to carry astronauts back to Earth.

    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201809041067727860-denmark-handshake-citizenship/

“Aspiring citizens must greet officials in a respectful fashion or forgo the hopes of ever attaining Danish citizenship, Denmark’s “blue” government said, triggering several mayors, who promised civil disobedience.

As new citizenship rules are being drafted, the Danish government wants to make it mandatory for people to shake hands with the mayors of their respective municipalities during citizenship ceremonies, the newspaper Jyllands-Posten reported.

“The handshake is the accepted way of greeting people in Denmark. That’s the way we show respect for each other in this country. That’s why it’s a natural part of this ceremony,” Immigration Minister Inger Støjberg of the Liberal Party told the daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten.

According to the Social Democrats, the Danish People’s Party (DF) and the Conservatives, shaking hands should be a legal requirement.

“If you want to be a Danish citizen, you need to be prepared to greet politely and decently with other people, and in Denmark it means shaking hands. That’s how it is,” DF immigration spokesman Martin Henriksen said.

According to Johannes Nørregaard Frandsen, a professor of cultural science and literature at the University of Southern Denmark, shaking hands is a completely normal way of greeting, which in Denmark can be traced back to the Code of Jutland from 1241.

While some politicians see the bill as a step towards compelling newcomers to embrace Danish values and Danish culture, others regard is as unconstitutional encroachment on religious freedom….”

  12. China raises fears of ‘new colonialism’ with $60 billion investment across Africa

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday pledged $60 billion in financing for projects in Africa in the form of assistance, investment and loans, as China furthers efforts to link the continent’s economic prospects to its own.

Speaking to a gathering of African leaders in Beijing, Mr Xi said the figure includes $15 billion in grants, interest-free loans and concessional loans, $20 billion in credit lines, $10 billion for “development financing” and $5 billion to buy imports from Africa.

In addition, he said China will encourage companies to invest at least $10 billion in Africa over the next three years.

China’s outreach to Africa aims to build trade, investment and political ties with a continent often seen as overlooked by the US and other Western nations. That has provided lucrative opportunities for Chinese businesses, while African nations are often happy to accept China’s offers that come without demands for safeguards against corruption, waste and environmental damage.v

  15. Hungary Asks ‘What’s Wrong with the Swedes?’ as Poland Vows to Avoid Western Europe’s ‘Social Diseases’ (breitbart, Sep 4, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/09/04/hungary-asks-whats-wrong-with-swedes/

“The Hungarian government is openly asking “What’s wrong with the Swedes?” as the Scandinavian country’s pro-immigration government lashes out at Budapest, while the leader of Poland’s governing Law and Justice Party has said his country must avoid Western Europe’s “social diseases”.

In a public blog post on the official About Hungary website, Hungarian government spokesman Zoltán Kovács posed the question: “Why are these senior Swedish figures portraying Hungary as Europe’s bogeyman, spreading falsehoods and distorting facts about our government’s policies on migration? Could it have something to do with the fact that the country faces general elections on September 9th?”

Sweden’s ambassador to Hungary was recently summoned by the Central European country’s foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, after his Swedish counterpart Margot Wallstrom claimed Hungary was forming an alliance with Italy’s Matteo Salvini against “democrats and the left” and told them to “bring it on”.

“Those who support immigration, including in this case members of the Swedish government, will not shy away from falsehoods and politically-motivated criticisms of democratically elected governments that, in representing the will of the citizens, oppose mass immigration and open borders,” railed Kovács, asserting that his government’s policy is to oppose illegal mass migration, not democracy.

He also repeated Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s claim that France’s Emmanuel Macron has become the EU’s globalist-in-chief, but quoted Foreign Minister Szijjártó’s suggestion that “the northern countries are also attempting to gain as much credit as possible in this battle by… launching a competition about who can criticise the countries of Central Europe to the greatest extent.”

To this Kovács added: “Thus far, Sweden seems to be winning this miserable game.”

Meanwhile, the leader of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS), Jaros?aw Kaczy?ski, warned supporters that while he hopes for his country to “achieve parity when it comes to living standards” with Western Europe, “that doesn’t mean we should repeat the mistakes of the West and become infected with social diseases that dominate there”.

Observers may take this to be a reference to the problems with crime, terrorism, and social cohesion which have been associated with mass migration and state-sponsored multiculturalism in countries such as Britain, France, and Germany — with Kaczy?ski having previously vowed that the EU could not “impose a social catastrophe” on Poland through compulsory migrant quotas.

Kaczy?ski also took aim at Poland’s left-liberal opposition, which adopted a much more pliant stance towards Brussels before PiS ejected them from government in 2015.

“I had said we would face an uphill battle and that stones would be thrown,” he said.

“We are being attacked internally and from the outside… It’s easy to serve the interests of the most powerful. If you want to serve the society, the nation, it’s much more difficult.””

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/greek-police-rescue-60-migrants-dumped-northern-highway-57589463

“Authorities in northern Greece have rescued 60 Iraqi migrants, including 27 children, found walking along a major highway after a smuggling truck dumped them far from their destination.

Police said the migrants, who had illegally entered Greece through the land border with Turkey, were found on Tuesday 15 kilometers (9 miles) west of Thessaloniki.

They had been brought by truck from the border, having paid about $2,000 each to a smuggling gang. Authorities believe the driver abandoned them to avoid police roadblocks near Thessaloniki.

Thousands of economic migrants or refugees illegally enter Greece every year from Turkey, despite bilateral deals and an agreement between the European Union and Turkey intended to stem the flow.

“We don’t recognize our country as it is today,” said Bengt Borg, 66. His wife, 64, says she no longer feels safe walking alone at night due to reports of rapes by immigrants. Both plan to join a growing number of Swedes voting for a nationalist and anti-immigrant party, the Sweden Democrats, in Sunday’s general election.

The vote will be the first since the nation of 10 million accepted 163,000 migrants in 2015 — the largest number relative to the total population of any European state.

Support for the Sweden Democrats, which have their roots in a neo-Nazi movement, has swollen to around 20 percent — up from the 13 percent it won in 2014.”

  19. Rouhani: Iran will export crude oil despite US pressure (abcnews, Sep 4, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/rouhani-iran-export-crude-oil-us-pressure-57586758

“Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says his country will continue exporting crude oil despite U.S. efforts to stop it through sanctions.

Speaking to a group of oil officials on Tuesday, Rouhani said the U.S. is targeting oil exports as part of efforts to reimpose sanctions on Iran.

“We will continue by all means to both produce and export” oil, Rouhani said in remarks broadcast on state TV. “Oil is in the frontline of confrontation and resistance.”

The U.S. wants to reduce Iran’s oil exports effectively to zero with renewed sanctions in November after pulling out of the nuclear deal between Iran and western powers in May.

It’s unclear, however, how much the U.S.’s allies will cut back on Iranian oil imports.”

An Israeli company that designs military-grade vests, uniforms and helmets has developed a bulletproof backpack for school students – and orders are pouring in from the US.

  23. Royal Academy nudes to have ‘gender equality’ in new post-#metoo exhibition

The Royal Academy is to ensure its next exhibition of nudes has an equal gender split of naked men and women, as it navigates the post-Me Too era.

The Academy, which has just undergone a major restructure to celebrate its 250th anniversary, will have almost exact parity between paintings, sculptures and drawings of male and female nudes in its forthcoming exploration of Renaissance art.

The decision, confirmed by the gallery’s director Tim Marlow at its season launch today, marks the first time the Royal Academy has introduced a makeshift gender quota to its exhibitions as a “very interesting exercise”.

The Renaissance Nude, due to open in March 2019, will include around 85 works created from 1400 to 1530 designed to track the development of the “idea and ideal” of the nude throughout Europe.

The announcement, made as part of the Royal Academy’s 2019 season launch, follows a period of deep crisis in the arts, as television, film, theatre, music and the visual arts all re-examine their treatment of women in the wake of #metoo sex abuse revelations.

  24. To spy or not to spy? German parties split over AfD

BERLIN (Reuters) – Differences emerged between Germany’s governing parties on Monday over how to respond to the Alternative for Germany’s (AfD) alleged ties to anti-Islamic and racist groups, as calls grew for the far-right party to be placed under surveillance.

About 6,000 supporters of the AfD and the anti-Islam PEGIDA group turned out to a series of protests in the eastern city of Chemnitz after a man was stabbed to death there last weekend, allegedly by two immigrants.

Skinheads clashed with police soon after a Syrian and an Iraqi were identified as the main suspects, and a number of xenophobic attacks were reported, exposing bitter divisions over Chancellor Angela Merkel’s liberal immigration policy.

On Monday, the states of Lower Saxony and Bremen said their regional security services, tasked with policing unconstitutional activity, had placed their respective regional chapters of Young Alternative, the largest opposition party’s youth wing, under surveillance because of its suspected ties.

But with pressure from politicians and activists to extend that surveillance to the national party, conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel declined to enter the fray directly, saying it was for the security services themselves to decide whom to monitor.

  25. Global debt soars, along with fears of crisis ahead

Ten years after the worst financial panic since the 1930s, growing debt burdens in key developing economies are fueling fears of a new crisis that could spread far beyond the disruption sweeping Turkey.

The loss of investor confidence in the Turkish lira, which has surrendered more than 40 percent of its value this year, is only a preview of debt problems that could engulf countries such as Brazil, South Africa, Russia and Indonesia, some economists say.

“Turkey is not the last one,” said Sebnem Kalemli-Ozcan, an economics professor at the University of Maryland. “Turkey is the beginning.”

For now, few experts think that a broader crisis is imminent, though Argentina this week asked the International Monetary Fund to accelerate a planned $50 billion rescue as the peso crashed to a historic low. But the danger of a financial contagion that could hit Americans by crushing U.S. exports and sending the stock market plunging should be taken more seriously in light of a massive increase in global debt since the 2008 downturn, the economists said.

Total debt is a whopping $169 trillion, up from $97 trillion on the eve of the Great Recession, according to the McKinsey Global Institute.

    • Global finance ‘as vulnerable’ as in 2008: ex-ECB chief

Paris (AFP) – Too much debt has made the world’s financial system as vulnerable as it was 10 years ago, Europe’s top central banker during the 2008 global meltdown has warned as he looks back on the crisis.

“There is now agreement that the excessive debt level in advanced economies was a key factor in the triggering of the global financial crisis in 2007 and 2008,” Jean-Claude Trichet, who ran the European Central Bank between 2003 and 2011, told AFP in an interview.

“The growth in debt, especially private debt, in advanced countries has slowed, but this slowdown has been offset by an acceleration of emerging country debt,” said Trichet, a Frenchman who ran his country’s central bank, the Banque de France, before taking the helm at the ECB.

“This makes the entire global financial system at least as vulnerable as it was in 2008, if not more so.”

    • Iranian rial hits record low at 128,000 to the dollar- Bonbast website

Sept 3 (Reuters) – The Iranian rial hit a record low against the U.S. dollar on the unofficial market on Monday amid a deterioration in the economic situation and the reimposition of sanctions by the United States.

The dollar was being offered for as much as 128,000 rials, according to foreign exchange website Bonbast.com, which tracks the unofficial market.

The currency has been volatile for months because of a weak economy, financial difficulties at local banks and heavy demand for dollars among Iranians who fear the pullout of Washington from a landmark 2015 nuclear deal and renewed U.S. sanctions could shrink Iran’s exports of oil and other goods.

A set of U.S. sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry is due to take effect in November.

Last week, Iran’s parliament sacked the minister of economic affairs and finance, the latest in a continuing shakeup of top economic personnel. In early August Iranian lawmakers voted out the minister of labour and in July President Hassan Rouhani replaced the head of the central bank.

  27. South Africa Unexpectedly Slides Into Recession For The First Time Since 2009

With South Africa reeling amid concerns of land expropriation, the rand tumbling amid broad emerging market fears and the local economy pressured by collapsing consumer spending, moments ago the Pretoria-based Statistics South Africa announced that Q2 GDP contracted at a 0.7% annualized rate, missing expectations of a 0.6% increase, and together with the sharp drop in Q1 GDP, South Africa has now officially entered its first recession since 2009.

There is a certain “rhyming” to this event because as Bloomberg notes, South Africa’s new President Cyril Ramaphosa suffered the same false start as his predecessor nine years ago: a recession in his first six months in office.

The decline was largely due to a collapse in agriculture and the farming sector – to be expected at a time when white farmers don’t know if they will be allowed to keep their land or have it be forcibly expropriated – and a parallel drop in consumer spending. Some more details from the report:

  28. Israel threatens attack on Iranian assets installed in Iraq

Israel has threatened to attack any Iranian military assets in Iraq as it has done in Syria, following reports Tehran has moved ballistic missiles closer to the Jewish state.

Avigdor Lieberman, Israel’s defence minister, signalled on Monday it would “contend” with Iranian provocations wherever they are found.

“We are certainly monitoring everything that is happening in Syria, and regarding Iranian threats we are not limiting ourselves just to Syrian territory. This also needs to be clear,” Mr Lieberman told a conference in Jerusalem.

Asked if this included Iraq, he responded: “I am saying that we will contend with any Iranian threat, and it doesn’t matter from where it comes … Israel’s freed.”

Tehran has transferred dozens of short-range ballistic missiles to Shia proxies in Iraq over the last few months, according to a Reuters report published over the weekend.

  29. Going up! Japan to test mini ‘space elevator’
    September 4, 2018

A Japanese team working to develop a “space elevator” will conduct a first trial this month, blasting off a miniature version on satellites to test the technology.

The test equipment, produced by researchers at Shizuoka University, will hitch a ride on an H-2B rocket being launched by Japan’s space agency from southern island of Tanegashima next week.

The test involves a miniature elevator stand-in—a box just six centimetres (2.4 inches) long, three centimetres wide, and three centimetres high.

If all goes well, it will provide proof of concept by moving along a 10-metre cable suspended in space between two mini satellites that will keep it taut.

The mini-elevator will travel along the cable from a container in one of the satellites.

“It’s going to be the world’s first experiment to test elevator movement in space,” a university spokesman told AFP on Tuesday.

The movement of the motorised “elevator” box will be monitored with cameras in the satellites.

  30. Turkey Defends its Borders With Syria in Fear of Refugee Inflow – Reports (sputniknews, Sep 4, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/news/201809041067739533-turkey-syria-refugees-borders-military/

“The Turkish military is sending military equipment to Kilis province bordering Syria over concerns of a new wave of refugees that could be provoked by a possible military operation in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, Hurriyet Daily News reported on Tuesday.

At least eight vehicles transporting tanks and howitzers passed through Kilis on the way to the Turkish district of Elbeyli on the Syrian border on Tuesday, according to Hurriyet Daily News. The media outlet said, citing security sources, that this move was aimed at helping contain a new wave of Syrian refugees that could result from a potential Syrian government offensive in Idlib province, which is one of Syria’s de-escalation zones and a remaining stronghold of insurgency in the country.

Turkey has also expanded the Atmeh refugee camp on the Syrian side of the border and reinforced 12 observation points to monitor the situation in the de-escalation zone, according to the report.

The situation in Idlib has escalated over the past weeks amid the recent reports of a potential government offensive after Russia said it had evidence that terrorists in the province were preparing a false-flag chemical weapons attack to frame the government forces and spark a US-led military intervention. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said last week that talks were underway to create humanitarian corridors in Idlib to allow civilians to leave the province.

As Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov told reporters on Monday, nobody was interested in active fighting in Syria’s Idlib, which may result in mass casualties.”

  31. Turkey says it told U.S. that Kurdish militants must leave Syria

ANKARA (Reuters) – Turkey told the United States on Tuesday that Kurdish militants must completely abandon Syria, the Turkish defense ministry said, as violence in the rebel-held northern Syrian enclave of Idlib escalated.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russia resumed its air strikes against insurgents in Idlib after 22 days, following weeks of aerial bombardment and shelling against rebels by pro-Syrian government forces in an apparent prelude to a full-scale offensive.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has sworn to recapture every inch of Syria and has made big gains against rebels since Russia joined his war effort in 2015.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said Iran, which also backs Assad, was making efforts to remove militants from Idlib with the least human cost.

Turkey, which has backed some rebels against Assad, has previously said that a military operation into Idlib, the last major rebel enclave in the country, would be disastrous.

By LU Staff September 4, 2018

You may think that a campaign to recruit voters and get them to vote along party lines costs millions. You wouldn’t be wrong if you did.

But just as important as raising the cash needed to get candidates’ names out there is the message. The left-leaning campaign gurus at Get out the Vote (GOTV) have some sage advice to impart on this point. In fact, to demonstrate just how effective strong messaging can be, we will feature only the five headings in the GOTV “workshop” on how to write the perfect script as bullet points:

  33. Black people hate Trump, so only they should be permitted to vote
By Ben Bowles September 4, 2018

When liberals joke about politics nowadays, there’s more than a germ of truth to their observations, especially when the target is Donald Trump. Take the joke cracked over the weekend by far-left civil rights attorney Lisa Bloom, who has made a living of late by raising money from rich Democratic donors to buy women willing to claim they were sexually harassed by Trump. (Bloom is the daughter of legal vulture Gloria Allred, demonstrating once again that age-old adage about the apple, the tree, and relative distance.)

On Sunday, CNN producer Ryan Struyk tweeted out the findings of a new ABC News/Washington Post poll that 3% of black Americans now approve of the job Trump is doing, while 93% disapprove. Bloom tweeted back, “Only black people should be allowed to vote.”

    • Blair to meet Salvini to discuss Azeri gas pipeline

The Italian far-right interior minister Matteo Salvini will meet former British prime minister Tony Blair in Rome to discuss controversial plans to extend a gas pipeline that will run from Azerbaijan to Puglia in Southern Italy.

      The Guardian

Tony Blair to meet Salvini to discuss Trans Adriatic Pipeline. The Ex-UK prime minister and Italian interior minister will discuss plans to extend gas pipeline

Blair has worked as a consultant on the Trans Adriatic Pipeline since 2014, which is the pet project of Azerbaijan’s strongman president, Ilham Aliyev.

Blair’s office did not offer any direct comment on the reason for the meeting, but Salvini said he was willing to hear from Blair on the pipeline, and other issues.

Blair’s strong views on the dangers of populism make him an unlikely choice to persuade Salvini of the value of the pipeline.

Blair has toned down his commercial lobbying since heading up his new Institute for Global Change, a movement dedicated to combatting populism and its causes.

He said in a recent speech that the simplistic solutions provided by rampant nationalism of the kind advocated by Salvini’s League could lead to a return to 1930s fascism.

The governing Italian coalition between the Five Star Movement (M5S) and Salvini’s League is divided on the gas pipeline issue. In July, Salvini said he would support the pipeline project claiming it would help to drive down gas prices in Italy, where there was little competition in the energy market. “The south of Italy needs infrastructure,’’ he said, “we need to move forward.’’

Europe will unleash demonic political forces to recreate 1930s, warns Varoufakis

A nationalist and quasi-fascist force is rising up in Europe, former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis has warned.

Varoufakis, in an exclusive interview with Euronews’ new Raw Politics programme, said the continent was heading for a return to 1930s fascism.

“We are going to unleash demonic political forces that will recreate a post-modern 1930s, with a nationalist, quasi-fascist international rising up both in the United States and Europe,” Varoufakis told Tesa Arcilla. “That is exactly what has been happening.”

Varoufakis was then asked if Europe had already reached this stage.

  34. Saudi Arabia declares online satire punishable offence

RIYADH (AFP) – Saudi Arabia will punish online satire that “disrupts public order” with up to five years in prison, the public prosecutor said Tuesday, as the kingdom cracks down on dissent.

“Producing and distributing content that ridicules, mocks, provokes and disrupts public order, religious values and public morals through social media … will be considered a cybercrime punishable by a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of three million riyals ($800,000),” the public prosecution tweeted late Monday.

The kingdom’s powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has drawn harsh criticism from rights groups over the targeting of human rights activists and political dissidents across the spectrum since his appointment in June 2017.

Saudi Arabia’s legislation on cybercrime has sparked concern among international rights groups in the past.

Dozens of Saudi citizens have been convicted on charges linked to dissent under a previous sweeping law, particularly linked to posts on Twitter.

In September 2017, authorities issued a public call for citizens to report on the social media activities of their fellow citizens, under a broad definition of “terrorist” crimes.

Saudi Arabia’s public prosecutor on Tuesday also announced it was seeking the death penalty in the case against Sheikh Salman al-Awda, a prominent Islamist cleric arrested last year along with 20 others.

  36. Finland: Most ‘Migrant Crisis’ Arrivals Not Refugees, Are Economic Migrants (breitbart, Sep 4, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/09/04/finland-migrant-crisis-refugees-economic/

“The majority of people who travelled to Europe in 2015 at the height of the continent’s Migrant Crisis had made the journey seeking better material living standards and did not fit the criteria to be refugees, Finland’s Prime Minister has said.

Speaking during an interview with Finnish public broadcaster YLE at the weekend, Juha Sipilä asserted that the mass influx of immigrants seen in 2015 and 2016 following Angela Merkel’s suspension of EU Dublin rules has “caused the recent unrest in Europe”, highlighting protests in Germany’s Chemnitz over murders by migrants.

“What made the situation so difficult is that the majority of these people are on the move because of economic reasons – not because they are fleeing war or personal persecution,” he argued, prompting outrage from Finland’s left.

“It’s very problematic that we have a Prime Minister who makes racist violence by the far-right legitimate by remarking that it’s because of ‘uncontrolled immigration’,” said Left Alliance deputy chairman Veronika Honkasalo, blasting the Prime Minister for “providing justification for racism”.

Pro-open borders NGOs including Save the Children were among voices calling the claim false along with “immigration researcher” Erna Bodström, who argued that around half of asylum claims made in European Union (EU) nations during 2016 and 2017 were successful after taking into account negative decisions which were eventually overturned by appeal.

The Finnish Green League’s Emma Kari, meanwhile, demanded Sipilä take back his remarks on the migrant influx, writing on social media that she “hoped the Prime Minister gave false information about asylum seekers by accident”.

“Comments such as this incite hatred against vulnerable people and are consequently outright irresponsible when coming from the Prime Minister. That’s why it’s crucial that Sipilä corrects his statement,” Kari posted to Twitter.

Rather than recanting his statements, however, the Finnish leader penned a blog post saying he was justified in drawing attention to the large proportion of economic migrants amongst those drawn to Europe who are claiming to be refugees, stating that while “helping one’s neighbour” is a duty close to his heart, “the task of the asylum system” is to help the people in most need.

Claiming immigrant communities “enrich our culture” and that they constitute “an important part of Finland’s vitality and success”, the Centre Party politician said the nation “has a responsibility” to help refugees.

But “the fact is that the majority of those who arrived in 2015 and during the crisis did not meet the criteria for asylum in Finland”, he continued, noting: “According to the statistics of the Finnish Immigration Service, approximately one third of asylum seekers entering Finland for the period 2015-2017 received a positive asylum decision.

“Approximately 44 per cent of the asylum seekers who came to Europe received a positive decision. That is, most of the respondents did not have grounds for obtaining asylum in Europe,” he said.

“Amongst such a large number of people, there are certainly a variety of causes for departure. In addition to war and persecution, there is also the desire for better living conditions.

“The is understandable. But the role of the asylum system is to help people who are vulnerable to particular oppression and disadvantage,” wrote the Finnish politician, who in 2015 demanded the whole country mobilise to show “solidarity” to the arriving third world migrants.”

  37. Verified Pakistan Pop Star Tweets Prophet Cartoons ‘Worst Act of Terrorism’, Demands Artists Hanged

Pakistani pop star Rabi Pirzada has used her verified Twitter account to call for cartoonists who draw the Prophet Mohammed to be “hanged immediately”, claiming that drawing Islam’s founder is “the worst act of terrorism”.

“Freedom of expression can never justify blasphemy,” railed the singer — outwardly very Western in appearance, wearing modern clothing and leaving her hair uncovered.

“We strongly protest against disrespect of Our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) in France. Making cartoon of Prophet is the worst act of terrorism. The Sketch makers must be hanged immediately,” she demanded.

  38. Saxony’s Attorney General’s office contradicts Merkel
    01.09.2018
Without any evidence, the Chancellor and government spokesman claimed that there had been “hunts” in Chemnitz. Asked for proof, both are silent

It is a simple clear sentence by Wolfgang Klein, spokesman for the Attorney General of Saxony. “After all material available to us, there was no [human] hunt in Chemnitz,” said the official at the request of Publico. He contradicts directly the claims of Chancellor Angela Merkel and her spokesman Steffen Seibert, both of whom had claimed, citing unspecified videos claiming that in Chemnitz “hunt” had taken place – or even several hunts.

The Saxon Attorney General prosecutes all offenses in connection with the right of assembly, which had occurred in Chemnitz last Sunday and Monday: Hitler greetings, firecrackers and bottle throws, possible assaults. Because of the public showing of Hitler salutes, the authority pursues a dozen reports. It is also clear that on Sunday, August 26 in a spontaneous demonstration of about 800 people after the killing of a young Chemnitzers by two asylum seekers also about 50 violent persons from the right-wing radical and hooligan scene were on the way. From this group, several passers-by were mobbed and threatened. But there was no hunt in the streets of Chemnitz, according to findings of the authorities, nor did exist, until today, photos or moving images that support the charge.

With this Klein confirms what the Chemnitz police have already stated, as well as the editor-in-chief of the “Freie Presse” Torsten Kleditzsch, whose employees had watched the event on Sunday, while no national teams were on the road.
How did it even come to the nationwide coverage, in Chemnitz had been “hunts”? If you are looking for the source, you will come across a single short video, filmed and posted on the net by an organization “Antifa Zeckenbiss”. On it loosely together men are to be seen; one threatens to run towards a passer-by, shouts something about “Kanaken, [foreigner, offensive]” the runaway flees. A woman is heard with the sentence: “Hare, you stay here.” The mini-video made it to the ARD, the next morning there was a still of the video on their title page. The snippet undoubtedly shows an attempted assault – but no chase.
he news coverage of “Hunt Hunts” in Chemnitz did not really get going until government spokesman Steffen Seibert stepped in front of the press on 27 August
What was seen yesterday in Chemnitz and was sometimes recorded on video (…), that has no place in our constitutional state. Such riots, hunts on people of different appearance and other origins, (…) we do not accept. ”

The “Tagesschau” took this as an opportunity to report events under the motto: “Federal government denounces ‘hunts’ .” Only the video snippets of “Antifa Zeckenbiss” served as the proof in the program.
But not only Seibert, Angela Merkel also stepped in front of the press and declared:
“We have video footage that there were assassinations, riots (…)”
Nobody had seen video recordings until then. But the assertion of the government spokesman, and the head of government itself that, “we” – ie the government – have the appropriate material, had to act as a high official confirmation.
BUT, :the government did not publish the ominous hunt videos. They obviously did not provide it to the investigating authority.
Therefore, Publico sent a mail request to Seibert via email on Friday, August 31 at 16:47.
    Dear Mr. Seibert,
Before the Federal Press Conference you said about the events in Chemnitz:
“What was seen yesterday in Chemnitz and was recorded on video (…), has no place in our constitutional state. Such riots [Zusammenrottung can be also translated as public meeting], hunts on people of different appearance and other origins, (…) we do not accept. ”
According to the police, there were three verbal attacks on other people, including spitting, from the crowd of demonstrators last Sunday, and a presumed hit with a beer bottle. About a hunt or “hunts” the police have no knowledge. At the current time (Friday, 31 August 16 clock) investigating Attorney General Saxony, also has no evidence that would justify the term ” Hunt”.
According to the editor-in-chief of the “Freie Presse” Chemnitz Torsten Kleditzsch – the only media whose journalists had watched the event last Sunday – there were no events that could be described as a “chase”, ie the continued chasing of people by groups on the streets and squares.
Among a variety of video footage from Sunday, there is a video with the account “Antifa Zeckenbiss” on which a single man is seen running towards another single man. So this video also shows no hunt.
Since you are explicitly talking about videos that seem to be in your possession, which should show “chases on people of different looks and different backgrounds” in Chemnitz, I would ask you to tell me these sources.
In addition, please answer the question: How does the Federal Government define the term “Zusammenrottung” [mobbing, riots], used by you?
Does the federal government consider “Zusammenrottung”[public meeting, assembly, riots media translated it as riots, but in Gernman it is also public assembly] illegal?
Did you have any contact with the Chemnitz police and / or the local prosecutor before your statement?
Secondly, for the sake of completeness, I also send you a request to Mrs. Merkel:
Dear Dr. Merkel, during an appearance in front of the press you said about the events in Chemnitz:”We have video footage that there were assassinations, riots [Zusammenrottung] (…)” (Further information see question to Steffen Seibert.)

Therefore, I ask for answering the question: Which video recordings or other sources do you have that led you to say that in Chemnitz there had been “hunts”?
How do you define the term “Zusammenrottung”? Do you think that a “public meeting” is a crime? I ask for an early answer to you, Mr Seibert, and to Mrs. Merkel.
    Best regards, Alexander Wendt
    Publico

So far there is no answer. Even after a written reminder on Saturday not.

  40. Democrats Turn Supreme Court Hearing Into Circus with Planned Disruptions

Showing how liberals oppose actual democracy, the Democrats have already turned the hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh into a circus with disruptions they planned out ahead of time.

Indeed, as the Republicans set out to present Judge Brett Kavanaugh for consideration for the next open slot on the nation’s highest court, Democrats have set out on a course of their own to illicitly disrupt the proceedings.

This is not mere conjecture, because as Breitbart News reports, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin admitted to the plan.

    • Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearing begins under mob rule

udge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing turned into a political spectacle within moments of Tuesday’s kickoff, as top Democrats tried to overtake the session with a rapid-fire string of objections and protesters shouted and screamed from the audience.

More than an hour and 15 minutes after the hearing began, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, moved past Democratic attempts to delay and delivered his opening statement, over the sustained shouts of protesters who were being escorted out of the room.

The disruptions continued as lawmakers attempted to make opening statements. Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch struggled to deliver his prepared remarks, as protesters audibly shouted over him.

“I think we ought to have this loudmouth removed,” a frustrated Hatch said. “We shouldn’t have to put up with this kind of stuff.”

    • Brett Kavanaugh hearing repeatedly interrupted by Dem objections, protests
      Alex Pappas
By Alex Pappas | Fox News

Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing was overtaken by political theatrics on Tuesday, as Democratic lawmakers and protesters delayed the formal start of proceedings by more than an hour – and Republicans fired back by touting Kavanaugh’s credentials and decrying the breach of decorum.

The spectacle underscored the political nature of the confirmation hearings, coming two months before the midterms and as some senators gear up for a possible 2020 presidential run against President Trump. Several of those senators led the charge Tuesday in objecting to Kavanaugh.

Within moments of Tuesday’s kickoff, top Democrats tried to sideline the session with a rapid-fire string of objections concerning access to the nominee’s records.
