  1. alt-Left….the start
    http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/2018/08/sarah-jeong-and-medias-alt-left.html

The alt-left’s norms of discourse are defined by the same harsh contempt and winking racism that appear in Sarah Jeong’s tweets. It’s an internet culture where “white people” is an inherently derogatory term and new slurs, such as “caucasity”, are coined. Ironic racism is defined as “resistance” to whiteness. And what better way to resist whiteness than with racial slurs aimed at white people?

Sarah Jeong’s hateful tweets aren’t extraordinary examples of one woman’s bigotry. They’re variations on the typical memes and jokes on the alt-left. When we talk about Jeong’s racism, we’re really talking about the bigotry of an intersectional movement that is obsessed with punitively destroying the “privilege” of white people and other majority groups with racist memes, taunts and harassment.

The alt-left preceded the alt-right. The features of the alt-right that the media has attacked are mirror images of its origins counter-trolling the alt-left. When Sarah Jeong’s critics and defenders claim that she was “counter-trolling”, they hilariously get the origin of the internet culture species completely wrong.

  2. Senator Fraser Anning made a great maiden speech on entering Australian Parliament regarding stopping islamic immigration and a return to the white Australia policy which Australia had until approximately 1970.
He was immediately attacked by both sides of Parliament and the holocaust was invoked by some Jewish politicians and used as an excuse by the press to call him a Nazi.
Grandiose posturing was the scene in Federal and State parliaments condemning the man who dared to say what he believed.
Never the less, Bob Katter the leader of Fraser Annings party refused to denounce him and gave some of us in Australia the feeling that some people here have a backbone after all.

  3. We have an update on the situation.

The Swedish police spokeswoman Ulla Brehm says that they have DECIDED to NOT arrest anyone over the riots last night.

Instead they have identified them and will be talking with their families.

This has caused an outcry amongst Conservatives.

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/fighting-yemen-kills-18-civilians-57189711

“Yemeni officials and witnesses say heavy fighting between pro-government forces and Shiite rebels in the north and around the Red Sea port of Hodeida has killed at least 18 civilians.

They said Wednesday that forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition have been trying to seize the rebel-held district of ad-Durayhimi in Hodeida, in fighting that has killed at least 13 civilians in the past 24 hours.

They say rebel shelling has killed five people from one family in al-Sadah village, in the northern Hajjah province.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media, while the witnesses did so for fear of reprisals.

The coalition has been at war with the Iran-allied rebels, known as Houthis, since March 2015.”

  5. In heart of West Africa, Burkina Faso faces rising extremism (abcnews, Aug 15, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/heart-west-africa-burkina-faso-faces-rising-extremism-57188629

“The extremists approached the shepherd and made their intentions clear: They were seizing only the cattle owned by the deputy mayor of Burkina Faso’s rural commune of Deou and leaving the others alone.

And they had a message, deputy mayor Moustapha Sawadogo said: “All officials should leave the Sahel or face death.”

Islamic extremism has penetrated this West African nation, with its arid north becoming a sanctuary for fighters from Mali and Niger. Local young men who are frustrated by poverty and alleged abuses by soldiers during counterterror efforts are becoming radicalized.

“They live with us and know our movements,” said Sawadogo, who has lived in Burkina Faso’s Sahel region for more than two decades. “For the moment, the area belongs to them. They have seized it.”

The once-peaceful Burkina Faso, in the heart of West Africa, is finding itself uncomfortably at the center of a battle between extremists and regional counterterror effort for which it is relatively unprepared. Larger neighbors Mali and Niger for years have fought extremist groups pledging allegiance to al-Qaida and the Islamic State organization.

Now with the extremist threat spilling across the borders to Burkina Faso, the country has signed up with a new regional counterterror force, the G5 Sahel. Military spending jumped 24 percent from 2016 to 2017, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. The fight has strained security forces and frightened tens of thousands of students out of schools…”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/taliban-attacks-kills-police-southern-province-57185476

“A Taliban assault on two adjacent checkpoints in northern Afghanistan killed at least 30 soldiers and police, officials said Wednesday, as life gradually returned to normal in parts of the eastern city of Ghazni after a massive insurgent attack last week, with sporadic gunbattles still underway in some neighborhoods.

Mohammad Safdar Mohseni, the head of the provincial council in the northern Baghlan province, said the insurgents set fire to the checkpoints after the attack late Tuesday in the Baghlan-I Markazi district. Dilawar Aymaq, a parliamentarian from Baghlan, confirmed the attack, which targeted a military checkpoint and another manned by the so-called local police, militias recruited and paid by the Interior Ministry.

Abdul Hai Nemati, the governor of Baghlan, said at least nine security forces are still missing and four others were wounded in the attack. He said reinforcements have been dispatched to help recapture the checkpoints.

“The U.N. refugee agency is urging European countries to end a string of impasses over ships carrying rescued migrants and put together a Mediterranean regional arrangement that makes clear where such vessels can dock.

The Geneva-based agency welcomed Malta’s decision Tuesday to allow the private Aquarius ship to dock, with the 141 migrants on board to be distributed among five fellow European Union nations.

But U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said in a statement Wednesday that “the situation should never have come to this in the first place.”

He added that “it is wrong, dangerous and immoral to keep rescue ships wandering the Mediterranean while governments compete on who can take the least responsibility.”

Italy’s new government is refusing to allow any private rescue ships to dock.”

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1003518/Islamic-state-ISIS-Al-Qaeda-Iraq-Syria-terrorist-Middle-East-jihadist-UN-report

“A CHILLING UN report has revealed Libya is experiencing a resurgence in al-Qaeda presence, prompting fears of a terrorist onslaught in the region.

In North Africa, Libya is believed to be home to between 3,000 and 4,000 ISIS militants and is believed to be experiencing a revival in al-Qaeda presence.

Al-Qaeda’s leaders in Iran “have grown more prominent” and have been working with the extremist group’s top leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, “projecting his authority more effectively than he could previously” including on events in Syria, UN experts said.

Egypt is also believed to have some 1,000 ISIS fighters.

The news comes despite the armed group’s defeat on most fronts and following a significant halt in the flow of foreigners joining its ranks.

According to the UN experts, the heightened terrorist presence is despite both ISIS and al-Qaeda suffering major losses.

Twitter has restricted the account of right-wing media personality Alex Jones for violating its policies, the company told CNBC.

A Twitter representative told CNBC: “I can confirm that a tweet was reported to us which contained a link to a video on Periscope. Upon review we determined it violated our rules and required the account to delete the tweet and video.” Periscope is a live streaming app owned by Twitter.

  18. Los Angeles is first in US to install subway body scanners

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles’ subway will become the first mass transit system in the U.S. to install body scanners that screen passengers for weapons and explosives, officials said Tuesday.

The deployment of the portable scanners, which project waves to do full-body screenings of passengers walking through a station without slowing them down, will happen in the coming months, said Alex Wiggins, who runs the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s law enforcement division.

The machines scan for metallic and non-metallic objects on a person’s body, can detect suspicious items from 30 feet (9 meters) away and have the capability of scanning more than 2,000 passengers per hour.

  19. Hospitals scrap surgeries, Venezuelans forgo showers as taps run dry

CARACAS (Reuters) – At one of Caracas’ biggest public hospitals, most bathrooms are closed. Patients fill jugs from a tiny tap on the ground floor that sometimes has a trickle of water. Operations are postponed or canceled.

The Central Venezuelan University hospital, once a Latin American leader, is reeling as taps run dry.

“I have gone to the operation bloc and opened the tap to wash my hands, as you must do before a surgery, and nothing comes out,” said gynecologist Lina Figueria.

Water cuts are the latest addition to a long list of woes for Venezuelans hurting from a fifth year of an economic crisis that has sparked malnutrition, hyperinflation and emigration.

Malfunctions in the capital’s water network due to lack of maintenance have taken a turn for the worst in recent months, depriving many in this city of 3 million people of regular running water.

Caracas is nestled in a verdant valley perched at around 900 meters (2,953 feet) and its water is pumped from much lower sources. But the pumps have not been maintained, spare parts are scarce and President Nicolas Maduro’s administration is short of cash.

    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/qatar-invest-15b-turkeys-financial-markets-and-banks-1489268269

“Qatar pledged $15 billion of investment in Turkey that will be channeled into Turkish financial markets and banks, a government source told Reuters on Wednesday.

The investment package was announced after Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met President Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, as Turkey grapples with a collapse in the lira and tensions with NATO ally the United States.

Turkey has been thrown into crisis mode over the past week after US President Donald Trump doubled steel and aluminium tariffs on the country, sending the value of the lira into free-fall.

After reaching record lows on Monday, the lira rebounded to stronger than 6.0 against the dollar on Wednesday.

Turkey and Qatar have traditionally maintained good ties and Ankara stood by Doha after Saudi Arabia and other Arab states severed diplomatic, trade and travel ties with Qatar last year, accusing it of financing terrorism, a charge Doha denies.

Turkey, which has a military base in Qatar, rushed through supplies to the Gulf state after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt imposed the boycott. Qatar is allied with the West.

Qatar’s banking sector has considerable exposure to Turkey, whose currency has lost nearly 40 percent this year.

Qatar National Bank, the Middle East and North Africa’s largest bank, in 2016 completed the acquisition of Turkey’s Finansbank. Now around 15 percent of QNB’s assets and 14 percent of its loans relate to Turkey, according to Arqaam Capital.

Commercial Bank, Qatar’s third largest bank by assets, has been deploying more capital and focus on its Turkey business in a bid to benefit from closer political ties between the two countries. The lender owns Turkey’s Alternatifbank”

Incident started when man, 19, started attacking vehicles in Perigueux, France
Paramedics tried to calm the Afghan national, who has psychological problems
But he returned with a knife and stabbed them and two neighbours in their 60s
He was eventually overpowered and arrested with police ruling out terror motive

An Afghan asylum-seeker has been arrested after injuring four people in a drunken and frenzied knife attack in a sleepy French town.

The incident began last night with the 19-year-old man, who is said to have psychological problems, lashing out at cars outside his home in Perigueux, in the country’s south west.

He was seen ‘kicking and banging a first vehicle with his feet and fists, then a second’ and also ’rounding on female motorists’, according to the head of the ambulance service for the area, Jean-Jacques Girard.

Two paramedics who witnessed the incident tried to calm the man down but after disappearing inside his home he returned with a knife and attacked them, leaving them with injuries to the head and neck.

He then turned on two brothers aged 64 and 68 living next door, leaving one with a perforated lung and the other with stab wounds to the back.

The man was eventually overpowered by one of the brothers and a man of Cameroonian origin, who stepped in to help wrestle his knife away.

Police arrested the man and placed him in custody on charges of aggravated violence.

They ruled out any terrorist motive.

  24. You Shall Not Pass: Austria Reportedly Denied Entry to Afghan Posing as Gay (sputniknews, Aug 15, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201808151067219567-austria-fake-afghan-gay/

“Many migrants go to great lengths to pass through border security checks and get an asylum application approved, even as far as abusing selection criteria. Still, migration officers find ways to get to the truth.

An 18-year-old Afghan asylum seeker had his application rejected by Austrian authorities after an official running the checks determined that the teen tried pretending to be gay in a bid to get approved, Austrian weekly magazine Falter reported, citing the official’s ruling.

When estimating the candidate, the officer noticed that the candidate’s “walk, act and dress” were actually not “gay-like”, suggesting the Afghan was in fact pretending and trying to deceive the authorities.

The official also detected other inconsistences between the Afghan’s behavior and claims. For example, he noticed that the teen behaved rather aggressively, picking fights at his accommodation and was rather anti-social (he had very few friends).

The migration officer also cast doubt on the Afghan’s claims that he became aware of his sexual orientation at 12 in a country without “sexual stimulation through fashion and advertisement” and kissed a straight man in Afghanistan, where he would likely have been beaten for such a move.

Certain EU countries have implemented psychological gay tests during the background check process for asylum seekers to determine whether candidates are lying about their sexual orientation. The UK Home Office even brought up rules in 2017, ordering to send Afghans claiming to be gay back to their homeland.”

      • I wonder how long it will take before the stoners are too high on election day to vote and rational people take over the state?

        • Hard to tell.
There don’t seem to be many rational people. We keep our heads down in isolated cells, not much networking that I’m aware of.

Anybody involved in Republican Party politics is hopelessly compromised. There may be Tea Party activists, but they’ll be focussed on out of state races. Waste of time otherwise.

  27. CHRISTINE HALLQUIST – FIRST TRANSGENDER NOMINEE – RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR OF VERMONT

Vermont Democrats made history Tuesday by nominating Christine Hallquist as the first transgender individual to be a major party candidate for governor.
“I’m going to tell you why we’re going to win in November,” said Hallquist, holding a clipboard as she addressed a cheering crowd of supporters at the Skinny Pancake restaurant in Burlington. “Because nothing is impossible when you’re on the side of ???????.”

  28. Can Sanctions Bring Down The Mullahs?
Why Marxist thinking won’t bring down a murderous tyranny.

I don’t believe that sanctions are good enough, although, as I have said, the Iranian regime is so hollow it could crash at any time. At my advanced age, I still don’t believe I have seen an oppressive regime fall because life in its land had become unbearable.

Look around the world, and pick your favorite failed dictatorship. My short list runs from Pyongyang to Caracas, via Tehran and Havana. They are all under sanctions. Their people are miserable, and detest the regime. In some places, there are demonstrations, even huge ones. Yet, from North Korea to Venezuela, the regime isn’t headed for the exits. It cracks down. In some places, such as Venezuela and Iran, the people continue to demonstrate and call for regime change. In others, like Cuba and Iran, there is bitter silence. Yet the oppressive regimes impose their will.

In the modern world there are no end of uprisings and attempted revolutions, most all of which fail. The most recent batch constituted the “Arab Spring,” which did indeed produce the downfall of a handful of dictators, but not the democratic revolution so many believed was under way. Now we see wobbly Latin American dictators—Ortega, Maduro—but no revolution. Indeed, in the old Soviet Empire, leaders like Orban are openly advocating anti-liberal and even anti-democratic alternatives to the Western model.

  29. When Progressives Colluded With the Kremlin in a Presidential Election
How close America came to being officially pro-Moscow.
    August 15, 2018
    Paul Kengor

How many ways have progressives worked with the Kremlin over the years? The examples are legion. When I was researching my book Dupes, the biggest challenge was sifting through all the self-described “progressive” individuals or organizations to figure out which were closet communists cloaked as liberals, and whether they collaborated with Moscow. When Congress in 1961 published its major investigation of communist front-groups, titled, “Guide to Subversive Organizations and Publications,” one of the most popular title listings in the massive index was “Progressive.”

Progressive here, progressive there, progressive everywhere.

In fact, if you want a case of collusion between an American political party and Moscow in a presidential election, forget sniffing around 2016. Go back to 1948, where progressives created the smelly blueprint.

That year, the Progressive Party ran for president one Henry A. Wallace.

Wallace had been FDR’s vice president and was America’s preeminent dupe to Marxist-Leninists. He was horribly pro-Soviet. One of the stupidest things FDR did (and that’s saying something) was to make Wallace his vice president. Wallace’s public remarks defending Stalin’s USSR were so bad that Democrats demanded he be expelled as FDR’s running mate in 1944, even as FDR’s ideologically unhinged wife, Eleanor, protected him.

At this point it’s nearly an annual tradition.

2017’s Muslim car Jihadist was Khalid Masood, a Muslim convert of African ancestry. He performed far better than this year’s Muslim car Jihadist, Salih Khater, a Muslim migrant from Sudan.

  31. Record of Keith Ellison 911 Assault Call Released
    August 14, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

Before Karen Monahan, Rep. Keith Ellison’s current accuser came forward, another woman, Amy Alexander had accused the first Muslim congressman of physical assault and emotional abuse. The media quickly took Ellison’s side, Ellison denied the affair and a judge ordered her not to discuss the relationship.

As I wrote in today’s article, there are some interesting similarities between the two cases. (Thank you to Bosch Fawstin for the amazing art.)

  32. NYT – Trump Revokes Security Clearance of John Brennan, Former C.I.A. Director

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Wednesday revoked the security clearance of John O. Brennan, the former C.I.A. director under President Barack Obama, citing what he called Mr. Brennan’s “erratic” behavior.

The White House had threatened last month to strip Mr. Brennan and two other Obama administration officials — Susan E. Rice, the former national security adviser; and James R. Clapper Jr., the former director of national intelligence — of their security clearances.

Mr. Trump has questioned the loyalties of national security and law enforcement officials and dismissed some of their findings — particularly the conclusion that Moscow intervened in the 2016 election — as attacks against him.

Former high-ranking officials in defense, intelligence, diplomacy and law enforcement usually maintain their clearances to advise those still in government. A clearance also serves a more personally profitable function: helping departing officials get jobs at security contractors or similar firms.

Revoking their access to classified information could weaken their ability to work as consultants, lobbyists and advisers in Washington. Nearly 4.1 million people have security clearances, according to the most recent report by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, including 1.3 million with top secret clearances.

    =======================================================
Trump Revokes Security Clearance of ex-CIA Director John Brennan – White House

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Wednesday that US President Donald Trump is revoking the security clearance of former CIA director John Brennan.

“As the head of the executive branch and commander-in-chief, I have a unique constitutional responsibility to protect the nation’s classified information,” said a statement by Trump read by Sanders at a press conference Wednesday, “including by controlling access to it. Today, in fulfilling that responsibility, I’ve decided to revoke the security clearance of John Brennan, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency.”

“Historically, former heads of intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been allowed to retain access to classified information after their government service so that they can consult with their successors regarding matters about which they may have special insights and as a professional courtesy. Neither of these justifications supports Mr. Brennan’s continued access to classified information,” the statement continues.

  33. Al Qaeda returns? UN panel warns of new bin Laden threat

As the Islamic State is driven out of its former strongholds, a U.N. panel is warning that the next big terror threat in the region could come, once again, from Al Qaeda — led by the son of Usama bin Laden.

The report by U.N. experts, delivered to the Security Council and released this week, included startling findings about both terror networks. The report found that while ISIS had been defeated militarily in Iraq and most of Syria, it had rallied in early 2018 and still had approximately 20,000-30,000 members in the two countries.

The U.S.-led coalition in the region racked up numerous military wins against the group in 2017 and helped reduce its territory to mere pockets of Syria. At the State of the Union address this year, President Trump declared victory: “I’m proud to report that the coalition to defeat ISIS has liberated very close to 100 percent of the territory just recently held by these killers in Iraq and in Syria.”

The U.N. report found ISIS, though, is in the process of moving from “a proto-State network to a covert network” that continues to threaten other countries, and its leadership is still in tact, under Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

  34. Qatar: France’s Generous Financer of Mosques

Qatari activism in France should greatly worry those who care about the stability of European democracies. For years, Qatar has been the focus of many claims about its Islamic fundamentalism and its alleged support for the Muslim Brotherhood, Iran, ISIS, elements of al-Qaeda, Hamas, the Taliban and other Islamic extremists.

Qatar’s emir, Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, recently provided solid proof that France is a privileged field of projection for his country, which, for more than a year, has had a severe boycott imposed on it by its Gulf neighbors. A July meeting in Paris between the Emir of Qatar and French President Emmanuel Macron was the third held in just a few months. Contracts worth more than 12 billion euros have already been signed, making Qatar the third largest French customer in the Gulf after Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Qatar, however, casts its shadow not only over the French economy.

Money from Qatar finances many of the “mega-mosques” in France. These are large structures with minarets — not the improvised mosques that have sprung up in garages, storefronts and cultural centers. The Great Mosque of Poitiers, for instance, sits in the vicinity of the site of the Battle of Tours (also known as the Battle of Poitiers), where Charles Martel, ruler of the Franks, stopped the advancing Muslim army of Abdul al-Rahman in the year 732.

  35. Does Turkey Belong in the Future of NATO?

    by Nonie Darwish
    August 15, 2018 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12829/does-turkey-belong-in-nato

US President Donald J. Trump tends to state what many in the world are saying but few are willing publicly to express:

“I think allowing millions and millions of people to come into Europe is very, very sad,” he recently said. Standing next to UK Prime Minister Teresa May, he stated his conviction that European immigration policies are changing the “fabric of Europe” and destroying European culture.

It is a warning. Europe, in fact, is being flooded with millions of migrants, often from cultures that are openly anti-democratic.

Moreover, some Muslim leaders are encouraging immigrants to resist assimilation into European cultures. Such deliberate non-assimilation has created cultural clashes across Europe.

The reality is that fundamentalist Islamic cultures are, in many ways, at odds with secular Western values.

Regarding NATO, today’s flood of immigrants may well eventually try to transform the heart of values and goals – “to safeguard the Allies’ freedom and security by political and military means” — that brought the NATO nations together in the first place.

  36. “Mastercard Forces Patreon to Remove ‘Jihad Watch’ Founder Robert Spencer From Platform”
    by Cristina Laila – August 15, 2018

“I don’t have a MasterCard and didn’t have one attached to my Patreon account, so MasterCard really wasn’t involved — unless it owns Patreon, which is apparently the case,” Robert Spencer said.
    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2018/08/mastercard-forces-patreon-to-remove-jihad-watch-founder-robert-spencer-from-platform/

    • A lot of people pay patreon by Mastercard, Mastercard said ban Spender or we stop processing payments to you. If Mastercard stops processing payments patreon will lose a lot of its business.

      • Some conservatives are calling out PTrump’s DoJ, Dept of Civil Rights. Administration response has been sluggish. These sites are crucial to the _base_, for heaven’s sake!

The Prez himself has gone on Alex Jones. I don’t blame him for avoiding association with Jones, but the issue belongs to the Justice Dept anyway. Which stinks at so many levels…

  37. The Assad Regime Returns to the Golan

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Assad regime’s recapture of the Syrian Golan Heights is advantageous to Israel, in light of the Israeli-Russian understanding to predicate the situation there on the May 1974 disengagement. Even if the new arrangement does not lead to a forty-year-long de facto peace like the one that prevailed prior to the eruption of the Syrian civil war, Assad will need to focus on rebuilding his regime, reconstituting Syria, and ensuring the continuation of Alawite rule. In these circumstances, not only does military confrontation with Israel not entail any conceivable gains but it would likely wreck the regime’s fragile recovery.

The Syrian civil war seems to be nearing its end. The forces of Bashar Assad, whose imminent collapse was predicted by then-defense minister Ehud Barak after the outbreak of the Syrian revolt in spring 2011, are getting stronger and more confident by the day. With the help of Russian air support and the massive support of Iran’s proxy militias, notably Hezbollah, the regime has succeeded in reasserting its authority on two-thirds of the country’s territory, systematically destroying the rebel forces (and in the process slaughtering hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrian civilians).
