  3. Shootings ripped through Chicago early Sunday, leaving 2 dead and 28 others wounded from midnight to 3 a.m.

    Five mass shootings, in which three or more people were shot, accounted for 25 of the shooting victims during the three-hour span.

    A single shooting in the Gresham neighborhood wounded eight people, including four teenage girls.

    The eight people, ranging from 14 to 35 years old, were standing in a courtyard about 12:40 a.m. in the 1300 block of West 76th Street when several males approached them and opened fire, according to Chicago Police. Their conditions stabilized at various hospitals.

  4. The conflict took place in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen, an area that is already seen as ‘dangerous’.

    After two women in their twenties started fighting, around 50 people chose sides and a massive street battle ensued.

    Three streets were completely closed off as the police got caught between the two sides. The officers had to request more patrol cars to separate the groups.

    About thirty policemen with nine vehicles and a service dog unit were called to bring the situation under control. The Wiesenstraße, Hochstraße and Court Street were temporarily closed to traffic because of the situation.

    During the fight, ten people surrounded one police officer, harassing and shoving him, injuring him slightly.

  6. An armed bystander with a concealed carry license shot a gunman who opened fire at a back-to-school event in Titusville, Florida, over the weekend.

    According to WFTV-TV, shots rang out at the event around 5:20 p.m. on Saturday after a fistfight.

    One of the individuals involved in the fight later came back to the park where the back-to-school event was ongoing and opened fire, endangering the lives of dozens of children.

  7. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A group of teens caused a massive disturbance at a Baltimore County mall where officials say one of the teens tried to punch a police officer.

    Baltimore County Police have identified two of the suspects who were arrested Saturday night as Michael Jerard Forrester and Tyrell Davon Rigby, both 19.

  8. A bombshell revelation on the security of voting in the United States has just surfaced in the form of a letter from the country’s largest voting machine manufacturer. The company, Election Systems and Software (ES&S) admitted that despite denying previous allegations of its voting systems coming installed with remote-access software, their systems did, indeed, allow for remote connections.

    In a letter to Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), written in April, but only released this week, the company acknowledged that it had installed software that made the systems remotely accessible from anywhere.

    “Prior to the inception of the [Election Assistance Commission] testing and certification program and the subsequent requirement for hardening and at customer’s request, ES&S provided pcAnywhere remote connection software on the [Election-Management System] workstation to a small number of customers between 2000 and 2006,” wrote Tom Burt, ES&S president.

  9. The action-movie star Steven Seagal has played a former C.I.A. agent, a hit man and a killer of criminals. On Saturday, Russian officials tapped him for another role: special representative to improve relations between the United States and Russia.

    The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the appointment on Facebook, saying his mission will include promoting “relations between Russia and the United States in the humanitarian field, including cooperation in culture, arts, public and youth exchanges.”

    The position is unpaid, said Russian officials, who compared the role to that of a United Nations good-will ambassador — a distinguished volunteer who calls attention to the work of the United Nations.

  10. PORT DOVER, Ont. – Police have named the 43-year-old man who was charged with impaired driving after he allegedly drove onto a crowded beach in Port Dover, Ont., on Saturday morning.

    Provincial police say Yourem Mako of Hamilton was charged with impaired driving, driving over the legal limit, dangerous driving and failure to comply with probation.

    On Saturday, police said they received a call shortly before noon about a van driving on the beach.

  12. The Swedish government has found that only between three and four percent of newly arrived migrants with a poor standard of education have any interest in attending further schooling or training.
    The new report, which comes from the Swedish Employment Service, shows that only three to four percent of migrants who have come to Sweden in the last two years have shown interest in attending classes to develop their education.

    Annie Rubensson, integration and establishment manager at the Employment Service said that the figures could greatly impact migrants chances of employment Sveriges Radio reports.

    “This means that their chances of getting a job drops significantly,” Rubensson said adding, “we are working hard to motivate and we will strengthen our efforts in the guidance to inform about what is required in the Swedish labour market.”

    “It is not certain that they are aware that, in principle, they require a high school education to get a permanent job in Sweden,” she said.

    The extremely low figure shows very little change from last year though Rubensson argued that in the future, “we can absolutely get better and we will be better.”

    Professor Olof Åslund of the Institute for Labor Market Policy Evaluation (IFAU) says that many of the migrants simply don’t understand that schooling is required for getting a good job. “They do not understand that the chances of getting a job increase by just this kind of training,” he said.

    Åslund said other asylum seekers believe they will be given menial jobs regardless of whether or not they attend the classes and so do not bother with them.

  13. The Congolese national who climbed the Statue of Liberty to protest President Trump’s immigration policies on the Fourth of July began shouting several anti-American phrases outside a Manhattan courthouse Friday, according to a video of the incident.
    Therese Okoumou, 44, who faces charges of misdemeanor trespassing, interference with a government agency, and disorderly conduct for scaling Lady Liberty out of protest, appeared outside the Manhattan courthouse Friday shouting anti-American epithets in front of a crowd of supporters, the New York Post reported.

  15. A modernized theatrical production of The Diary of Anne Frank in Los Angeles will re-imagine the Jewish Frank family hiding from Nazis with Latino immigrants hiding from Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement (ICE) officials, its directors have revealed.
    The production, directed by former Roseanne writer Stan Zimmerman and scheduled to run throughout September, “was inspired by the true story of a Jewish woman in Los Angeles who created a ‘Safe House’ for a Latina mother and her two daughters after her husband was deported by ICE.” The play’s characters in the attic will be played by a LatinX cast, according to a promotional website.
    “Director Stan Zimmerman has cast his production of the classic play The Diary of Anne Frank, by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett and newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman,” the play’s promotional content reads.

  16. (CNN)Six people have been arrested after Saturday’s apparent assassination attempt on President Nicolas Maduro in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, the nation’s interior minister said on national TV.

    Maduro survived the assault after several drones armed with explosives flew toward him during a speech at a military parade, an attack he blamed on far-right elements and Colombia’s outgoing president, Juan Manuel Santos.
    Those arrested are accused of “terrorism and assassination,” Interior Minister Nestor Reverol said Sunday.

  18. A federal judge has dismissed the lawsuit filed by the parents of Seth Rich, the former DNC staffer who was murdered in 2016, against Fox News, a reporter and a guest commentator over a retracted news story that tied his death to a conspiracy theory, CNN reports.

    The details: Judge George B. Daniels from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York cited the plaintiff’s “failure to state a claim.” He explained that “each of the Plaintiffs’ claims fail to adequately allege essential elements of the causes of action asserted,” according to CNN.

    “Again and again over the past two years, a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia and backed by the United States has claimed it won decisive victories that drove al-Qaida militants from their strongholds across Yemen and shattered their ability to attack the West.

    Here’s what the victors did not disclose: many of their conquests came without firing a shot.

    That’s because the coalition cut secret deals with al-Qaida fighters, paying some to leave key cities and towns and letting others retreat with weapons, equipment and wads of looted cash, an investigation by The Associated Press has found. Hundreds more were recruited to join the coalition itself.

    These compromises and alliances have allowed al-Qaida militants to survive to fight another day — and risk strengthening the most dangerous branch of the terror network that carried out the 9/11 attacks. Key participants in the pacts said the U.S. was aware of the arrangements and held off on any drone strikes.

    The deals uncovered by the AP reflect the contradictory interests of the two wars being waged simultaneously in this southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula.

    In one conflict, the U.S. is working with its Arab allies — particularly the United Arab Emirates — with the aim of eliminating the branch of extremists known as al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP. But the larger mission is to win the civil war against the Houthis, Iranian-backed Shiite rebels. And in that fight, al-Qaida militants are effectively on the same side as the Saudi-led coalition — and, by extension, the United States.

    “Elements of the U.S. military are clearly aware that much of what the U.S. is doing in Yemen is aiding AQAP and there is much angst about that,” said Michael Horton, a fellow at the Jamestown Foundation, a U.S. analysis group that tracks terrorism.

    “However, supporting the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against what the U.S. views as Iranian expansionism takes priority over battling AQAP and even stabilizing Yemen,” Horton said. The AP’s findings are based on reporting in Yemen and interviews with two dozen officials, including Yemeni security officers, militia commanders, tribal mediators and four members of al-Qaida’s branch. All but a few of those sources spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing reprisals. Emirati-backed factions, like most armed groups in Yemen, have been accused of abducting or killing their critics.

    Coalition-backed militias actively recruit al-Qaida militants, or those who were recently members, because they’re considered exceptional fighters, the AP found.

    The coalition forces are comprised of a dizzying mix of militias, factions, tribal warlords and tribes with very local interests. And AQAP militants are intertwined with many of them.

    One Yemeni commander who was put on the U.S. terrorism list for al-Qaida ties last year continues to receive money from the UAE to run his militia, his own aide told the AP. Another commander, recently granted $12 million for his fighting force by Yemen’s president, has a known al-Qaida figure as his closest aide.

    In one case, a tribal mediator who brokered a deal between the Emiratis and al-Qaida even gave the extremists a farewell dinner.

    Horton said much of the war on al-Qaida by the UAE and its allied militias is “a farce.”

    “It is now almost impossible to untangle who is AQAP and who is not since so many deals and alliances have been made,” he said.

    The U.S. has sent billions of dollars in weapons to the coalition to fight the Iran-backed Houthis. U.S. advisers also give the coalition intelligence used in targeting on-the-ground adversaries in Yemen, and American jets provide air-to-air refueling for coalition war planes. The U.S. does not fund the coalition, however, and there is no evidence that American money went to AQAP militants.

    The U.S. is aware of an al-Qaida presence among the anti-Houthi ranks, a senior American official told reporters in Cairo earlier this year. Because coalition members back militias with hard-line Islamic commanders, “it’s very, very easy for al-Qaida to insinuate itself into the mix,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity under the terms of the briefing.

    More recently, the Pentagon vigorously denied any complicity with al-Qaida militants.

    “Since the beginning of 2017, we have conducted more than 140 strikes to remove key AQAP leaders and disrupt its ability to use ungoverned spaces to recruit, train and plan operations against the U.S. and our partners across the region,” Navy Cmdr. Sean Robertson, a Pentagon spokesman, wrote in an email to the AP.

    A senior Saudi official commented by saying that the Saudi-led coalition “continues its commitment to combat extremism and terrorism.”

    An Emirati government spokesman did not reply to questions from the AP.

    The coalition began fighting in Yemen in 2015 after the Houthis overran the north, including the capital, Sanaa. The UAE and Saudi Arabia are determined to stop what they consider a move by their nemesis, Iran, to take over Yemen, and their professed aim is to restore the internationally recognized government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

    Al-Qaida is leveraging the chaos to its advantage.

    “The United States is certainly in a bind in Yemen,” said Katherine Zimmerman, a research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. “It doesn’t make sense that the United States has identified al-Qaida as a threat, but that we have common interests inside of Yemen and that, in some places, it looks like we’re looking the other way.”

    Within this complicated conflict, al-Qaida says its numbers — which U.S. officials have estimated at 6,000 to 8,000 members — are rising.

    An al-Qaida commander who helps organize deployments told the AP that the front lines against the Houthis provide fertile ground to recruit new members.

    “Meaning, if we send 20, we come back with 100,” he said.

    The well-known commander communicated with AP via a secure messaging app on condition of anonymity because he had no authorization from the group to talk to the news media…”

    • AQAP is getting stronger all the time. And that’s the most dangerous of all the al-Q affiliates. They are also working hand in glove with the MB.

      The MB branch in Yemen is al-Islah. And that’s one of the most radical MB parties in the world. The top general of the Yemeni army, MB honcho Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, brought al-Q from Afghanistan to Yemen in 2005 personally.

      It’s tangled.
      The UAE regards the MB as its most dangerous foe, worse than Iran. The Emiratis are after control over the south, especially the port city Aden to complement their “Dubai Port World” business venture.

      The Saudis have a different perspective. They’re fighting Iran for nothing less than Top Dog of the Muslim World: the “Arabian Gulf” vs. the “Persian Gulf”.

      Iranian proxies are Houthis and Hezbollah. No doubt there are some North Koreans, somewhere there. NorKs have fought with Syria in every war, and they’re tight with the regime in Iran.

      So MbS will gladly use al-Islah and AQAP and the Devil himself as mercenaries. There are a limited number of “regular” soldiers, plus some Americans. We’ve sold them so many armaments, we’ve got to look after them. (We’re making out like bandits with these arms deals.)

      This whole “GCC” or “Axis of Moderation” or “Anti-Terror Quartet” (add Bahrain and Egypt) is just so much fiddle-faddle. The interests of these “coalition” partners diverge. Yemen is synthetic, tribes fight constantly, ally with different families within the Gulf region, not even whole countries.

      Bahrain is a little Shitte country ruled by a Sunni chieftain, who’s holding on by his fingernails. Egypt is fiercely anti-MB, anti-jihadi. It’s not real happy about the Saudis paying MB, al-Q mercenaries. Not at all. But el-Sisi is kept quiet by cash infusions.

      “Moderate” Sunni countries? MB and al-Q?
      That circus in Saudi with PTrump and the globe? Part of a confection prepared for American consumption. It’s continuously fed to social media “influencers” and I’ve even seen echoes here.

    The Masters of the Universe at Facebook and Apple have censored InfoWars pages and podcasts on their platforms, both claiming Alex Jones and company engage in “hate speech.”

    Following the recent suspension of Alex Jones’ Facebook page and the removal of InfoWars podcasts from Spotify, Facebook has permanently removed multiple InfoWars pages from its site while Apple has taken steps to remove InfoWars podcasts from its podcast directory.

    Facebook has removed the following InfoWars pages from their platform: the Alex Jones Channel Page, the Alex Jones Page, the Infowars Page and the Infowars Nightly News Page. A blog post related to Facebook Community Standards discusses the decision to remove InfoWars related pages stating:

    So what happened with InfoWars? They were up on Friday and now they are down?
    As a result of reports we received, last week, we removed four videos on four Facebook Pages for violating our hate speech and bullying policies. These pages were the Alex Jones Channel Page, the Alex Jones Page, the InfoWars Page and the Infowars Nightly News Page. In addition, one of the admins of these Pages – Alex Jones – was placed in a 30-day block for his role in posting violating content to these Pages.

    Since then, more content from the same Pages has been reported to us — upon review, we have taken it down for glorifying violence, which violates our graphic violence policy, and using dehumanizing language to describe people who are transgender, Muslims and immigrants, which violates our hate speech policies.

    All four Pages have been unpublished for repeated violations of Community Standards and accumulating too many strikes. While much of the discussion around Infowars has been related to false news, which is a serious issue that we are working to address by demoting links marked wrong by fact checkers and suggesting additional content, none of the violations that spurred today’s removals were related to this.

    An Apple spokesperson discussed the removal with BuzzFeed News stating: “Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users. Podcasts that violate these guidelines are removed from our directory making them no longer searchable or available for download or streaming. We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions.”

    Paul Joseph Watson tweeted about the suspension, describing it as “political censorship.”

    Facebook, well-known as a breeding ground for misinformation, has a particular problem with disseminating false and misleading messages about climate change science. The platform spreads climate-denying videos and other posts, hosts climate-denying ads, and officially partners with climate-denying media outlets and organizations.

    Lately, as inevitably happens after stories emerge in which a person of color is accused of racism, the hashtag #reverseracism trends on Twitter. Almost all of the posts that include the hashtag argue that reverse racism doesn’t exist — that it can’t because black people cannot be racists.

    This bit of fiction became prominent during the Obama presidency, to excuse the beatings inflicted on lone white people by mobs of blacks. These attacks became so commonplace that authorities refused to investigate the savage beating of a white man by black youths in Cincinnati as a hate crime.

    The liberal media did their part to promote this fiction by omitting the race of the perpetrators when reporting these incidents — a habit they have retained to this day.

    To say that reverse racism doesn’t exist is to give blacks license to call Italians “garlic noses” (as former Obama pastor Jeremiah Wright did in one sermon) and use any other racial slur with impunity. Yet, I’m going to do precisely that: I’m going to submit here and now that there is no such thing as reverse racism.

    An extensive report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that including ethanol into the U.S. gas supply is wreaking havoc on the atmosphere and soil.

    In a study titled “Biofuels and the Environment: The Second Triennial Report to Congress,” the EPA determined that ethanol derived from corn and soybeans is causing serious harm to the environment. Water, soil and air quality were all found to be adversely affected by biofuel mandates.

    “Evidence since enactment of [the Energy Independence and Security Act] suggests an increase in acreage planted with soybeans and corn, with strong indications from observed changes in land use that some of this increase is a consequence of increased biofuel production,” read a portion of the 159-page report.

    The ethanol mandate has negatively effected water quality, with greater biofuel production resulting in more harmful algae blooms and hypoxia. While most algae is harmless to water, some forms — such as the kind produced in Lake Eerie from biofuel feedstock — has emitted toxic chemicals into the water. This harmful algae can consume the oxygen in the water, a process known as hypoxia, killing other wildlife.

    Attorneys for Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) argued in court Wednesday that Earth First! should be held accountable for eco-terrorism because it’s a legal entity that can be sued — ETP believes it should be able to sue a publication the group uses to distribute source material. Earth First! often publishes pamphlets instructing activists how to avoid legal issues associated with sabotage.

    ETP sued Earth First!, Greenpeace, and BankTrack in 2017 for $1 billion, alleging all three groups worked to undermine the $3.8 billion pipeline now channeling oil from North Dakota to Illinois. Various legal groups maintain Earth First! is a social movement or philosophy, like Black Lives Matter or the Occupy movement, and therefore is not subject to a lawsuit.

    “It’s an absurd argument that they’ve made. Earth First! never appeared. Earth First! Journal asked to draft an amicus brief. Then they file a motion for sanction because we sued an organization that doesn’t exist because it is a philosophy,” Michael Bowe, an attorney representing ETP, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

    Authorities are continuing their search for a three-year-old Georgia boy whose father, who allegedly abducted him, was arrested Friday in what officials call a “third-world”-like New Mexico compound.

    Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj, who suffers from numerous medical conditions, was allegedly abducted by Siraj Ibn Wahhaj last December. Siraj Ibn Wahhaj was arrested Friday with another Atlanta man, Lucas Morten, in Amalia, New Mexico.

    Taos County law enforcement officials found 11 children and three women, believed to be the children’s mothers, also living there, but did not find Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj.

    Officials believed little the boy had been there several weeks before, and are continuing to search for him.

    Aras Bacho, a Syrian refugee living in Austria, has suggested in an open letter published in the daily newspaper OE24 that ordinary Austrians and Germans should participate in the integration process of migrants. According to him, integration requires “both sides to work,” meaning that Germans and Austrians should take refugees into their homes, as well as to live and go out with them.

    “Austrians have to take refugees into their own homes — this benefits both sides. [Integration] works when refugees live with Austrians. They can talk, or an Austrian can read an official letter to a refugee and then explain it in simpler language. […] They can go outdoors or to a swimming pool together,” Bacho wrote, adding that the same goes for Germans.

    The man added that communication like that helps refugees to “get smarter” and learn the language. However, in his opinion, communication is not the only thing that Germans and Austrians can help migrants with.

    He notes that taxes paid by citizens to support refugees are not donations, as they are mandatory. Bacho believes that Germans and Austrians should pay voluntary donations to be truly humane. He goes on to cite Jesus from the Bible to underscore his point.

    “All Christians should naturally know that Jesus said ‘give men in need your home and all your money.’ As you can see, not all Christians adhere to this guideline,” he said.

    Bacho explained in his letter that money helped him a lot during his initial period as a migrant, buying not only clothes, but also books to learn German.

    His ideas have found little support on social media, with responses ranging from flatly disagreeing with his views on integration to suggesting that Bacho should go and buy his own home back in Syria.

    “Integration is not a one-way street. Both sides must contribute. To take someone is unilateral action and sends a wrong sign. Anyone who fails to integrate or assimilate within an existing framework does not belong here,” a user named Henricvs wrote

    “Every European should send such ‘refugees’ back to their own home,” a user under the name of Frodilon wrote.

    “As always so demanding, so outrageous, so ungrateful…” a user called snow crash wrote.

    Still, there were some who supported Aras Bacho’s suggestions.

    “Unfortunately, this isn’t going to work as many Germans are afraid of strangers. But every German should think about how well we’re doing, how refugees have lost everything to live in safety, and help. It doesn’t cost much,” a user called Sisi61 wrote.

    Germany, Austria and a number of other European countries faced a significant influx of migrants from the Middle East in 2015, which has led to public discontent and a rise in popularity of right-wing parties Europe-wide. A number of such parties have criticized their governments for their inability to halt the wave of migrants at the borders and for spending tax money to support refugees who do not work, do not pay taxes and sometimes don’t learn the country’s language.

    The wave of uncontrolled migration has also led to public concern over the safety of ordinary citizens, as many of the states that accepted refugees have suffered from rising levels of crime, including rape, committed by some migrants. One of the more recent high-profile cases was the murder of 14-year-old Jewish girl Susanna Feldmann by 20-year-old migrant Ali Bashar from Iraq, who entered Germany in 2015.

    Around 100 migrants were evicted from the occupied former Olympic Village in Turin on Monday, following an agreement with the municipality for the occupants to move to other, public accommodation.

    Years after a Judicial Watch investigation uncovered that Islamic terrorists are entering the United States through the Mexican border federal authorities have arrested a Jordanian man for smuggling six citizens of Yemen—an Al Qaeda hotbed—into the U.S. through Mexico. The smuggler, 31-year-old Moayad Heider Mohammad Aldairi, conspired with others to sneak the six Yemeni nationals across the Texas border for a fee, according to a statement issued this week by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

    Aldairi is a legal resident of Mexico, the feds reveal in their arrest warrant affidavit. From July 2017 to December 2017 he conspired with unnamed “others” to smuggle the Special Interest Aliens (SIA) into the U.S. through Eagle Pass, Texas. Sometime between October 31, 2017 and December 12, 2017 the six citizens of Yemen crossed illegally into the U.S. from Mexico, the federal document says, adding that the SIA’s were detained and interviewed by investigators from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “Each of them paid Aldairi varying amounts to be smuggled into the United States from Mexico,” the warrant affidavit states, adding that all six Yemenis positively identified Aldairi from a photo lineup as the person who brought them into the country. Yemen is a major base for Islamic militants that is deemed a high security threat by the State Department and the 2009 Christmas Day airline bomber proudly trained there.

    German Interior Ministry spokesperson Eleonore Peterman said the term “detention and deportation centres” should not be used, during a press conference in Berlin on Monday when questioned about a new facility at Munich airport.

    “Fundamentally I can say on behalf of all counties and in general that ‘detention and deportation centres’ is not a term that should be seriously considered to be used by anyone,” Petermann said.

    Petermann refused to comment further on the question stating that as an Interior Ministry spokesperson she cannot speak for the Free State of Bavaria.

    The comments came as reports emerged suggesting that Bavarian authorities are planning to establish a centre for refugees at Munich’s Airport, located in a hangar once used by bankrupt Air-Berlin.
