An anonymous email came in over the transom this morning:
Hi, Stacy.
During the early weeks after the USS Fitzgerald was speared by a lumbering Philippine container ship, it was noteworthy that the captain and a couple of admirals were publically named, but not the actual officer in charge, the officer of the deck. (OOD) The other person who should have kept the Fitz out of trouble is the person in charge of the combat information center, the Tactical Action Officer. That individual is supposed to be monitoring the combat radar, which can detect a swimmer at a distance of two miles.
Not until a year later, when the final reports are made public and the guilty parties have been court-martialed, does the truth come out. The OOD was named Sarah, and the Tactical Action Officer was named Natalie, and they weren’t speaking to each other!!! The Tactical Action Officer would normally be in near constant communication with the OOD, but there is no record of any communication between them that entire shift!
Another fun fact: In the Navy that won WWII, the damage control officers were usually some of the biggest and strongest men aboard, able to close hatches, shore up damaged areas with timbers, etc. The Fitz’s damage control officer was also a woman, and she never left the bridge. She handled the aftermath of the accident remotely, without lifting a finger herself!
Look it up: The OOD was Sarah Coppock, Tactical Action Officer was Natalie Combs. . . .
When I noticed last year that they were doing all they could to keep the OOD’s name out of the headlines, I speculated to my son that it was a she. Turns out all the key people (except one officer in the CIC) were female!
Indeed, I did some searching, and Lt. Coppock pleaded guilty to dereliction of duty. Lt. Combs faced a hearing last month:
In an 11-hour hearing, prosecutors painted a picture of Lt. Irian Woodley, the ship’s surface warfare coordinator, and Lt. Natalie Combs, the tactical action officer, as failing at their jobs, not using the tools at their disposal properly and not communicating adequately. They became complacent with faulty equipment and did not seek to get it fixed, and they failed to communicate with the bridge, the prosecution argued. Had they done those things, the government contended, they would have been able to avert the collision.
That two of the officers — Coppock and Combs — involved in this fatal incident were female suggests that discipline and training standards have been lowered for the sake of “gender integration,” which was a major policy push at the Pentagon during the Obama administration. It could be that senior officers, knowing their promotions may hinge on enthusiastic support for “gender integration,” are reluctant to enforce standards for the women under their command.
This was the story of Kara Hultgreen, the Navy pilot who died in a 1994 F-14 crash. Investigation showed that Hultgreen had been allowed to proceed in her training after errors that would have meant a washout for any male pilot. But the Clinton administration was pushing for female fighter pilots, which resulted in a competition between the Navy and Air Force to put women into these combat roles. It is not necessary to believe that (a) women shouldn’t be fighter pilots, in order to believe (b) lowering standards for the sake of quotas is a bad idea. Of course, you may believe both (a) and (b), but it is (b) that gets people killed.
It seems obvious that the Pentagon (and the liberal media) sought to suppress full knowledge of what happened to the Fitzgerald in the immediate aftermath of the June 2017 incident that killed seven sailors, in the same way the details of Kara Hultgreen’s death were suppressed. It took investigative reporters like Rowan Scarborough of the Washington Times a lot of hard work to find out what actually happened to Hultgreen. Let’s hope other reporters will dig into what’s happening in our military with the “gender integration” agenda at the Pentagon now.
Israel has to make the best use of every individual soldier. For specialized duties they try to find the best match for the job. Skill sets differ, gender is one factor amongst many.

In the “good old days” you always had green lieutenants but most of them realized it, listened to the WOs and learnt. You are both right, there are women and can handle both jobs but the average woman can’t, the average man can. You have limited resources to spend on protecting the nations from foreign Armies and from internal criminals. Spending the same amount of those resources to recruit and train women to be ordinary grunts that is spent on recruiting and training special operators is not a wise use of those assets and weakens the defense of the nation in the military and police.

The training is seriously tough for everybody. Then they take considerable care with placement according to aptitude. And a lot of the soldiering these days in Israel is high-tech.
Even in combat there are tasks that don’t require brute force as much as brains and agility. But I have serious reservations about morale – if a woman were to be captured, G-d forbid.

Orbán laid responsibility for Brexit, for example, at the feet of the unelected European Commission led by Jean-Claude Juncker, which acts as the bloc’s executive and sole initiator of EU-level legislation.
The conservative premier said the appointment of Juncker as President of the Commission over the objections of the British government — Hungary was the only EU member-state which supported the Brits — placed “dynamite under the relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union”, while the bloc’s failure to deal with the migrant crisis “lit the fuse”.
More broadly, the Hungarian prime minister said Juncker’s “ominous” decision to run a “political commission” had proved to be a “cardinal error”, allowing it to become “an instrument which the large states [such as Germany and France] use against the smaller ones”, attempting to force them to adopt liberal policies on mass migration through a form of “blackmail”.

Self-identified Republicans now have a marginally more favorable view of Kim Jong Un than they do for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), according to a new Ipsos poll done exclusively for The Daily Beast.
The poll of roughly 1,000 adults aged 18 and over was conducted June 14-15, shortly after President Trump’s historic summit with the North Korea dictator. According to the results, 19 percent of Republicans indicated they had a favorable view of Kim with 68 percent saying they had an unfavorable view (12 percent of voters overall had a favorable view of Kim, compared to 75 percent who viewed him unfavorably). That compared slightly better than the perception of Pelosi, who had a 17 percent favorable, 72 percent unfavorable rating among self-identified Republicans.

Welcome to computational argumentation. IBM’s Project Debater won a convincing victory in one debate but a human debater edged it out in another.
We saw computers beat humans at chess in 1997, beat humans at Jeopardy in 2011 and vanquish the world’s best human players of the ancient game of Go in 2017. On Monday, a computer edged out a victory over people in a far more nuanced competition: debate.
IBM created a system called Project Debater that competes in what the company calls computational argumentation — knowing a subject, presenting a position and defending it against opposition. At a press event, IBM pitted the system against two humans with a track record of winning debates.

A motorcade was spotted leaving the Beijing airport early Tuesday, with Kim believed to be inside.
Chinese state media confirmed he’s expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jingping during his two-day visit. However, reports say Kim could also be seeking China’s help in gaining relief from U.S. sanctions.

And this is why so many Americans have lost confidence in the mainstream media.
Pew has done a survey in which it asked respondents to identify statements of fact versus statements of opinion. It is interesting – and for us old-timers, yes, somewhat alarming – to see how many of the respondents were unable to correctly identify the statements as to whether they were about facts, or about opinions.
Regarding one of the fact statements, that’s not actually as straightforward as it sounds. To assess it “correctly,” you have to know what the study means by posing it, and be certain of the answer the study is looking for, even though there’s a strong argument that it’s not really a statement of fact. The writers of the study don’t seem to understand that, which is a separate but closely related issue. We’ll get to it in a minute.
Regarding the study results, they certainly appear dismal. They appear dismal, that is, if you don’t read past the mainstream media headlines, or go to the original source. Emails suggest EPA officials colluded with lobbyists against Trump policies

An attorney and junk science blogger uncovered emails suggesting lobbyists and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials coordinated on an effort to preserve regulations on used truck engine manufacturers.
“The purpose, of course, was to embarrass and intimidate the Trump EPA into aborting the rollback of the Obama EPA rule,” JunkScience.com publisher Steve Milloy told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, Milloy obtained emails between two lobbyists at Volvo Group North America, and high-ranking officials in Ann Arbor, Mich., where EPA’s vehicle emissions testing lab is located.
“The emails show that Volvo lobbyists were working to supplying EPA staff with glider trucks so that rogue EPA staff could dishonestly ‘test’ glider emissions and issue a damning report that could be waved about at a public hearing on the proposed rule rollback,” Milloy said.

A total of six farm attacks have been reported to have happened today.
A man was been shot dead while a woman was shot and injured in a farm attack at Komatipoort in Mpumalanga on Sunday, police said.
The man was shot once and the woman several times, said Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe.
“The man was certified dead at the scene by paramedics whilst the woman was rushed to hospital,” said Bhembe.
Bhembe said it was alleged that three men, who wore balaclavas, attacked the farm at about 08:30.
“It is alleged that the trio gained entry onto the farm by firstly attacking and restraining a security guard whose hands and feet were tied,” he said.
He said they then ordered the man, who was outside, to go into the house where they tied his hands and feet.

The U.S. far-left “anti-hate” Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has agreed to pay anti-extremist British Muslim Maajid Nawaz a 3.3m dollar settlement after the group included him in a list of anti-Muslim extremists.

The Department of Justice inspector general report has begun to reveal the extent of FBI corruption, and it’s pandemic. One notable indication of this corruption that the report reveals is that the Obama-era FBI was only too happy to be wooed and lavished with gifts by the establishment media. This reminded me of a time when I tried to give two Obamoid FBI agents copies of a book about the jihad threat – then these eminently corruptible officials suddenly turned into Dudley Do-Right, and absolutely could not, under any circumstances, accept gifts.

But several years ago I had lunch with a couple of FBI agents who were the very epitome of the kind of agent Barack Obama and James Comey wanted: extremely young, spottily educated, politically correct, secure and condescending in their ignorance, deeply concerned about the “right-wing” threat, and not at all preoccupied with the global jihad threat except insofar as it might put them on the trail of some “Islamophobes.” Over a reasonably cordial lunch, I told them about active jihadis who contact me from time to time, thinking that my website Jihad Watch is actually a pro-jihad site; they agreed to accept information about these people, but spent most of their time warning me somewhat ludicrously that if I had any contact with them, I could be charged as an accessory to terrorist activity – a prospect that seemed to bring a light to their eyes.

FBI analysts and Prosecutor 2 told us that former President Barack Obama was one of the 13 individuals with whom Clinton had direct contact using her clintonemail.com account,” explains DOJ inspector Michael Horowitz in Review of Various Actions by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice in Advance of the 2016 Election, the massive report released last week. Despite surprise in some quarters, this was not a new revelation.
Back in early March of 2015, CBS’ Bill Plante asked the president when he learned about Clinton’s private email system. “The same time everybody else learned it through news reports,” he said. That was not true, and hardly the president’s first strategic lie.
The story first emerged in “Hillary Clinton Used Personal Email Account at State Dept., Possibly Breaking Rules,” a March 3, 2015 New York Times report by Michael Schmidt. The most casual reader could disregard the “possibly” part.
“Mrs. Clinton did not have a government email address during her four-year tenure at the State Department,” readers learned, and “her aides took no actions to have her personal emails preserved on department servers at the time, as required by the Federal Records Act.” Two months earlier, in response to an effort to comply with federal rules, “Mrs. Clinton’s advisers reviewed tens of thousands of pages of her personal emails and decided which ones to turn over to the State Department.”

North African Migrant Arrested After Sexually Assaulting Six Children (breitbart, Jun 19, 2018)

“A Moroccan man has been arrested after six children were followed home and sexually assaulted on their own doorsteps in Alicante, Spain.
National police officers detained the 24-year-old last week in Elche on suspicion of committing seven crimes against sexual freedom, six of which were against children, reported El Mundo.
The specialised and violent crime unit of Alicante police said the man, who is set to appear in court Saturday, is accused of five counts of sexual assault and two of sexual abuse, a lesser charge than assault which is used in cases where violence was not involved.
An investigation opened on May 30th last year when police received two complaints of sexual assault in a neighbourhood of Alicante a few hours apart on the same day.
The man is alleged to have followed the victims to the doorway of their homes before “violently assaulting them in order to touch their private parts”, according to local media.
Detectives realised they were likely dealing with a serial sex offender after a new attacker with the same modus operandi was reported to police at the end of last year…”

“The leader of the populist Sweden Democrats Jimmie Åkesson has demanded that the government grant the people of Sweden a referendum on whether or not to remain in the European Union (EU) following this year’s national election.
Mr. Åkesson also criticised the political bloc in his interview with Swedish financial website Dagens industri, saying the EU had become “a major force of corruption where nobody has control over anything”.
“We see no point in joining a political union that the EU has become,” Åkesson said.
He noted that the amount Sweden would have to pay into the bloc would increase due to the loss of the 100 billion Swedish Krona (£8.49bn/$11.2bn) a year that Brexit Britain was previously paying into the EU.
While Sweden currently pays 40 billion Swedish Krona (£3.4bn/$$4.5bn), that amount is estimated to increase by another 15 billion (£1.3bn/$1.7bn) after the UK leaves the EU, according to government estimates.
“We pay a lot of money and get a little bit back. But the main reason is ideological: We will not be in a supranational union. We will, of course, cooperate with other countries and trade with countries in our area, but we would see no point in joining a political union as the EU has become,” Åkesson said…”
