  2. 25 African migrants come ashore in Brazil after sea rescue (abcnews, May 20, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/25-african-migrants-ashore-brazil-sea-rescue-55308689

“About two dozen African migrants were brought ashore in northeastern Brazil after being rescued at sea by fishermen, Brazilian authorities said Sunday.

The government of Maranhao state said that 25 people from Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Cape Verde along with two Brazilians landed Saturday.

The boat with the migrants was adrift when they were rescued, according to the G1 news portal, which also said they had been at sea for weeks.

Those aboard were dehydrated and received medical care and meals upon arrival, the state government said. They were taken to a sports complex where they would be housed for the time being.

Federal police are looking into whether any crimes were committed against the migrants. That could mean there is suspicion they were exploited by smugglers.

Every year, tens of thousands of people from Africa and the Middle East try to reach Europe in smugglers’ boats. But such journeys to Brazil are rare.”

    • That is a long voyage. We need to learn if this is just a one off or if this is the beginning of a new push to flood nations with African migrants?

  3. Afghan official: Taliban kill 5 workers clearing land mines (abcnews, May 21, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-official-taliban-kill-workers-clearing-land-mines-55320006

“An Afghan official says the Taliban killed at least five members of a demining team in southern Kandahar province.

Zia Durrani, spokesman for the provincial police chief, says a sixth worker is missing and his fate is unknown following the attack on Monday morning in the district of Maiwand.

Durrani says the de-miners were working for the TAPI national project, clearing a segment for a planned gas pipeline from central Asia that’s headed to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Karim Yuresh, police spokesman in northern Faryab province, says the Taliban attacked a district headquarters on Sunday night, burning down about 50 shops in Khuaja Sabz Posh district. He says reinforcements repelled the attackers. Six insurgents were killed and 10 were wounded.

The Taliban haven’t claimed responsibility for either attack.”

  4. Muslim Parents Complain Their Children Should Be Exempt from Exams During Ramadan (breitbart, May 21, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/05/21/muslim-parents-complain-children-exempt-exams-during-ramadan/

“Parents of Muslim pupils in Germany have complained that their children should not have to take part in any exams due to the stress placed on them by fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

President of the German Teachers’ Association Heinz-Peter Meidinger has complained that Ramadan fasting has caused several problems with Muslim parents including many being “exhausted” due to fasting, Kronen Zeitung reports.

The issues have affected many schools in Berlin because of the high numbers of migrant-background students with Meidinger claiming that parents have specifically requested that their children not be made to take any sort of examination during the Islamic holy month.

“A lot of students take the fast very seriously now,” Meidinger said.

Family Minister Franziska Giffey, of the Social Democrats, said that fasting should not be a focus for children saying: “Children have to drink and eat regularly, otherwise they can no longer follow lessons attentively.”

Giffey added that teachers and others should also make sure classmates were not using peer pressure against Muslim students who were fasting saying: “There should be no discrimination, no matter if someone is fasting or not.”

The demands are not the first time Islamic religious practises has interfered with schooling in a European country. Last year, a Dutch school in the Hague held a class photo day during the Eid al-Adha and two Muslim sisters were unable to take part in the photograph.

After complaints were lodged by the mother of the two young girls, the school was forced to pay out 500 euros to each girl after a discrimination lawsuit was filed. The parents had demanded 10,000 euros, initially.

Ramadan has become much more well-known and practised in Germany since the 2015 migrant crisis with German broadcaster Deutschlandfunk Kultur claiming that the Islamic holy month is an “old German custom”.”

  5. German State Gives Residence Rights to Migrant ‘Victims of Right Wing Violence’ (breitbart, May 21, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/05/21/german-residence-migrant-victim-violence/

“Thuringia’s migration ministry has announced that from June 1, illegal immigrants who fall victim to “right-wing violence” in the German state will be given residence permits on “humanitarian” grounds.

“The number of violent crimes remains worryingly high, and victims are often people with a migrant background,” said Thuringia justice, migration, and consumer protection minister Dieter Lauinger.

In a statement on the measure, the Green minister explained: “We consider it necessary [that we should] improve the situation for those affected [by violent crime in Germany], by granting residence on a human rights basis.”

According to a press release, the new rules will apply to foreigners who “are without residence rights and who have been victim to a serious act of violent crime with significant after-effects”.

“Under the decree, crimes which would qualify include, for example, breach of the peace, sexual assaults, and homicides,” the ministry explained, before adding that “there must be evidence that the victim was attacked on grounds of nationality, ethnicity, skin colour or religious affiliation”, and noting that the regulations will not apply if an incident is found to have been “simulated or provoked”.

“The state government is committed to its responsibility towards victims of racist and right-wing acts,” said integration, migration, and refugee commissioner, Mirjam Kruppa.

“This decree sends out an important message to the people seeking safety with us in that it shows that we aim to provide security and protection to people affected by violence.”

She added: “It is good that Thuringia is taking this step because it complements an active policy of integration that supports encounters [between native Germans and aliens] and thus also helps to reduce prejudice.”

The measure will see victims granted residency rights for a period of six months, initially, in order to facilitate the investigation of the reported crime, according to Lauinger.

“Creating a stable situation for the victims, with regards to their residency status, is also important from the perspective of criminal proceedings,” he said.

“The investigation and prosecution of all forms of right-wing extremist or racist violence should not be hampered by the possible deportation of a witness.”

The decree came under fire from the populist, anti-mass migration Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group, which accused Thuringia’s red-red-green state government of acting deliberately to undermine federal migration laws.

“There is no urgent humanitarian ‘right to stay’ just because someone has actually or allegedly fallen victim a crime,” said AFD migration policy spokesman Stefan Möller, who pointed out that federal law already provides foreign victims of crime a temporary stay where prosecutors consider it necessary.

Similar measures were considered by lawmakers in Brandenburg in 2016 when the state’s parliament requested the government “make sure that victims of right [wing] violent crimes are offered the possibility of being issued with residence permits and tolerances”.

As Breitbart London reported last year, politicians hoped the move could deter people from making xenophobic attacks on asylum seekers by emphasising that such actions would only result in more being permitted to stay.”

    • Since most of the attacks are criminal gangs of other Moslems this will increase the number allowed to stay and do nothing to stop Europeans from getting upset over the way their nations are being destroyed. As is usual the left does the wrong thing at the wrong time.

      • This will increase the size of Eurabia, Inc.’s EUGendFor.

In fact Russia is impoverished. Putin couldn’t even hold the Turk off Afrin. PTrump wanted to engage in dialogue with him during the campaign. That was his – healthy – instinct. It’s a bloody shame the Deep State conspired to prevent a proper recalibration.

  6. Deliver an ‘Ottoman Slap’ in ‘Failing Europe’, Erdogan Tells E.U.’s Muslims (breitbart, May 21, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/jerusalem/2018/05/21/fight-your-way-into-power-erdogan-tells-e-u-s-muslims/

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an condemned Europe’s treatment of Turks yesterday as he used a fiery speech to urge the continent’s Muslims to stand up and fight for their rights in “failing democracies.”

His call at a massed rally in Sarajevo, Bosnia was met by ringing cries of “Allahu akbar ” and “Sultan Erdogan” from thousands of expatriate Turks, the Times reports.

“The European countries that claim to be the cradles of democracy have failed,” he told 15,000 cheering members of the Turkish diaspora, many of whom had travelled from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

“European Turks must show their strength to the whole world,” he said. “You need to be in those parliaments instead of the ones who betray our country.

“Are you ready to demonstrate to the whole world the strength of European Turks? Are you ready to give the terrorist organisations and their local and foreign henchmen an Ottoman slap?” — a reference to opposition PKK Kurdish groups who have front groups in some European capitals…”

    • ‘Failed Cradles of Democracy’: Erdogan Slams Europe’s Treatment of Turks (sputniknews, May 21, 2018)
      https://sputniknews.com/world/201805211064640465-erdogan-slams-europe-treatment-turks/

“Upon his arrival to the Bosnian capital Sarajevo on Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a passionate speech, condemning Europe’s treatment of Turks.

Addressing 15,000 supporters at the Olympic stadium in Sarajevo, President Erdogan touched upon the issue of discrimination of Turks in Europe. He went on to say that expatriates serving in European governments had sought to undermine Turkey, and encouraged his supporters to become educated and work their way into power in those governments.

“The European countries that claim to be the cradles of democracy have failed, European Turks must show their strength to the whole world. You need to be in those parliaments instead of the ones who betray our country. Are you ready to demonstrate to the whole world the strength of European Turks? Are you ready to give the terrorist organizations and their local and foreign henchmen an Ottoman slap?” Erdogan said.

Erdogan arrived to Sarajevo to canvass support from Turks living in Europe for his ruling AK Party ahead of next month’s election in Turkey.

He also lambasted European nations that had not let him hold rallies on their soil, and said that the Turkish state news agency, TRT, would expand its coverage in Europe to counteract the alleged propaganda against Muslims.

Erdogan also promised that expatriates who had obtained citizenship in other countries would still have their right to vote in Turkey.

Many of his supporters were bussed in from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands to Sarajevo so that they could meet the president, and some of them told The Times that they saw Erdogan as “a world leader” despite the fact that he’s been “shut out from everywhere in Europe.”

Outside the stadium where Erdogan gave his speech, street vendors sold flags and T-shirts and scarves with Erdogan’s image on them and shouted “World leader scarves!”…”

      • Here comes the open violent attacks designed to seize power in Europe. Because the European nations have traditionally surrendered when their Capital Cities have been captured the Islamic Invaders are concentrating on the Capitals in all European nations and then spreading out to other big cities.

With this call to action we can expect both political actions to increase and violent terror attacks (military actions) to increase. The attacks on European police in the no go zones will increase until they become true no go zones.

This summer is going to become very violent and bloody, it may hold off until next year but that is unlikely. The European response to the US pulling out of the Iranian deal signaled that they aren’t going to fight and Erdogan has decided that this is the time when Turkey should become active in seizing Europe. His moves to gain power in the Middle East have been blocked by the US, Putin and Iran now he is moving over to actions in Europe, actions that will build support for Erdogan and the new Ottoman Empire among the Islamist who want to start the massive Islamic conquest of the world.

  7. Expert Warning That Foreign Aid Payments Are Fuelling Mass Migration (breitbart, May 21, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/05/21/expert-warn-current-foreign-aid-policy-fueling-migration/

“While many politicians in Europe have argued for more aid to Africa and other regions to solve mass migration, some experts believe current aid policies may be having the opposite effect.

U.S. economist Michael A. Clemens has claimed in a recent study, which he authored for the Bonn Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA), that current aid policy may be encouraging mass migration rather than preventing it, Die Welt reports.

According to Clemens, current aid policies “only strengthen economic growth, employment and security up to a certain limit”.

The economist added: “Almost all the poor countries that have become rich have experienced large outflows. Rising household income went hand in hand with rising emigration.”

“Higher incomes mean improved ability to pay for direct costs of emigration, but also to invest in things that invite and facilitate migration – such as Internet access, foreign language skills, business connections abroad, or tourist travel,” Clemens added.

Experts have also raised concerns about the population boom in Africa and the effect it will have on local economies that could drive mass migration even further in the near future. Clemens warned: “Migration from Africa is not an option that can be turned off like the faucet.”

Many politicians have recommended the European Union expanding aid projects in Africa with German development minister Gerd Müller last year calling for an African “Marshall Plan” to be implemented. Müller warned that if Europe cut aid to African countries then the migrant crisis would more likely increase in numbers.

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the Forza Italia party, also endorsed a similar proposal claiming that the investments in Africa would counter the economic incentive for illegal migration.

For economist Michael A. Clemens, proposed solutions to the problem could lie in countries cooperating in labour issues more closely.

“Especially in Germany, there is a rapidly growing need for nurses. That will stay that way for decades. Currently, Germany is recruiting Vietnamese women. It would be important to offer this training, which ranges from language to specialist knowledge, in countries from which migration is particularly high,” he said.”

  8. Turkey sentences 104 people to life in prison in post-coup case: Hurriyet (reuters, May 21, 2018)
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-turkey-security/turkey-sentences-104-people-to-life-in-prison-in-post-coup-case-hurriyet-idUSKCN1IM17H?il=0

“A Turkish court on Monday sentenced 104 people to life in prison for involvement in a failed military coup in 2016, the Hurriyet newspaper said, in one of the heaviest penalties given since the attempt.

The court in the Aegean coastal town of Izmir handed 104 of 280 defendants “aggravated life” sentences, Hurriyet said, the harshest punishment possible under Turkish law as it raises the minimum time in jail required for parole.

Another 21 people were given 20 years in prison for insulting the president, while 31 others were sentenced to 10 years and six months for “membership of a terrorist organization”, Hurriyet said.

More than 240 people, most of them unarmed civilians, were killed on the night of July 15, 2016, when a group of rogue soldiers commandeered tanks and warplanes in an attempt to attack parliament and overthrow President Tayyip Erdogan.

The government blames the network of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, a former ally of Erdogan, for orchestrating the failed coup. Gulen, who has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999, has denied involvement and condemned the putsch.

Since the coup attempt, authorities have detained 160,000 people and dismissed nearly the same number of civil servants as part of a sweeping crackdown, the U.N. human rights office said in March. Of that number, more than 50,000 have been formally charged and kept in jail pending trial.

The scale of the crackdown has alarmed rights groups and Turkey’s Western allies, who fear the country is sliding further into authoritarianism under Erdogan and accuse the president of using the failed putsch as a pretext to quash dissent.

The government, however, says the measures are necessary, given the extent of the security threats it faces.”

The trove was located in a former observation point of the Al-Nusra Front terrorist group in the liberated Zaafaran settlement in Homs province, the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria said on Monday. “[We] can see here a large number of gas masks, weapons produced abroad, for example, TOW-2 anti-tank guided missiles. 11. Germany to Build Deportation Centers for Unwanted Migrants – Reports (sputniknews, May 21, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201805211064639137-germany-migrants-centers/

“Mass holding centers being set up in Germany to house unsuccessful asylum seekers and speed up their deportations threaten to undermine the country’s image of a welcoming nation, an aid group has warned.

They fear that anchor centers — an acronym for arrival, decision, return – which the Interior Ministry plans to spread across the country will stoke social tension between local residents and migrants amid a populist backlash against the government’s handling of the refugee crisis, The Guardian wrote.

Interior Minister Horst Seehofer is justifying the decision to roll out such anchor centers because of the difficulty in deporting “people without protected status after they have been spread out across the country and put down roots in our cities and communities.”

One such center which already exists in Bavaria and is meant as a prototype for the plan, suffers from high crime rates, mass protests and rising tensions between asylum seekers and security forces.

A converted army compound in Manching, Upper Bavaria, currently holds about 1,100 people, mainly from the western Balkans, Ukraine, Nigeria and Afghanistan.

Lucky Raphael, a 24-year-old asylum seeker from Nigeria, said that the inmates are not allowed to lock their rooms, cook their own food or go outside to look for a job or attend school.

“It is like a prison. We can go outside, but always in the fear that we could be arrested” he told the newspaper.

Anchor centers send a clear signal to migrants who have little chance of being allowed to stay in in the country amid a heated political debate about Germany’s failure to deport asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected.

“We are not told why we are here. It would be better if they told us straight away when we arrived that we cannot stay,” Kelvi Batin, also from Nigeria, complained.

Until very recently, Germany’s policy has been to accommodate arriving migrants in communities across the country, but the government is now backing off from that policy in the face of mounting criticism about its inability to handle the refugee crisis.

Germany has become a major destination for thousands of migrants and refugees from the Middle East amid instability caused by the civil war in Syria and the activity of the Daesh terrorist group in the region.

According to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), between 2014 and 2016 Germany received over one million asylum applications, more than any other country in the European Union forcing the authorities to tightened migration controls.”

  12. Danish Integration Minister Calls Ramadan ‘Dangerous’, ‘Unsustainable’ (sputniknews, May 21, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/viral/201805211064642016-denmark-ramadan-dangerous/

“A whole day without food and drink is unsustainable if you are working, Inger Støjberg has maintained, calling the Islamic month of fasting “dangerous.”

Despite the fact that Ramadan is only observed by practicing Muslims, it can also impact the rest of Danish society, Immigration and Integration Minister Inger Støjberg of the Liberal Party wrote in an opinion piece published by the BT daily, urging Muslims to take a vacation on Ramadan in order not to endanger the lives of fellow Danes.

According to Støjberg, who is known for her hardline stance in immigration issues, argued that Ramadan means “some very practical security and productivity challenges in a modern society.” Støjberg questioned the idea that a 1,400-year-old religious rite is still applicable to modern-day society and the labor market of Denmark anno 2018. She also stressed that observing Ramadan in today’s world is a much larger challenge that it was in the 7th century. In particular, going almost 18 hours without food and drink is unsustainable if you have to take care of your job at the same time, Støjberg argued.

“Practically speaking, it can be a dangerous practice for us all if, say, the bus driver neither eats nor drinks anything during a full day. Likewise, one of course does not deliver or perform in the same way at the factory or in the hospital, if they do not eat or drink for a whole month during daylight hours,” Støjberg wrote in her piece.

While stressing that she never wants to deprive Danish Muslims of the opportunity to practice their religion and take part in its festivities, emphasizing that the freedom of religion is still strong in Denmark, Støjberg nevertheless encouraged Muslims to take a vacation during Ramadan.

In a poll accompanying Støjberg’s article, 68 percent of Danes supported her idea of Muslims going on leave during Ramadan…”

  13. Stopping Robert Mueller to protect us all

The “deep state” is in a deep state of desperation. With little time left before the Justice Department inspector general’s report becomes public, and with special counsel Robert Mueller having failed to bring down Donald Trump after a year of trying, they know a reckoning is coming.

At this point, there is little doubt that the highest echelons of the FBI and the Justice Department broke their own rules to end the Hillary Clinton “matter,” but we can expect the inspector general to document what was done or, more pointedly, not done. It is hard to see how a year-long investigation of this won’t come down hard on former FBI Director James Comey and perhaps even former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who definitely wasn’t playing mahjong in a secret “no aides allowed” meeting with former President Clinton on a Phoenix airport tarmac.

  14. Former CIA Director-turned-Twitter troll, John Brennan lashed out at Trump on Sunday evening after the President ordered the DOJ to investigate the FBI’s infiltration of his campaign.

Brennan also fired a warning shot to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, claiming they will ‘bear the majority of the responsibility of the harm done to our democracy’ if they don’t stop Trump.

As previously reported by TGP’s Kristinn Taylor, President Trump tweeted Sunday afternoon he is ordering the Justice Department to investigate whether the Obama administration spied on his 2016 presidential campaign.

The order comes on the heels of leaks to the New York Times and Washington Post that the Obama administration had an “informant” make several approaches to three Trump campaign officials, included one that involved an offer of cash and another an offer to “advise” the campaign.

Trump tweeted: “I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes — and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!” the president tweeted.

    • There are two things to remember here, first the way the FBI and Intel organizations under Obama worked to make them above the law. They pushed then and are still pushing the idea that these groups (when run by their people) are not to be interfered with by the duly elected officials that the Constitution gives oversight of the entire Federal Government.

Second you must remember that during the Obama administration the DOJ, IRS FBI and probably a lot more engaged in criminal actions and the Obama officials are worried about being tried and thrown into the pen.

    • WSJ – The FBI Informant Who Wasn’t Spying

A secret source insinuated himself with Trump campaign officials. Ho hum.

Well, what do you know. The Federal Bureau of Investigation really did task an “informant” to insinuate himself with Trump campaign advisers in 2016. Our Kimberley Strassel reported this two weeks ago without disclosing a name.

We now have all but official confirmation thanks to “current and former government officials” who contributed to apologias last week in the New York Times and Washington Post. And please don’t call the informant a “spy.” A headline on one of the Times’ stories says the “F.B.I. Used Informant to Investigate Russia Ties to Campaign, Not to Spy, as Trump Claims.”

We’ll let readers parse that casuistic distinction, which is part of a campaign by the FBI and Justice Department to justify their refusal to turn over to the House Intelligence Committee documents related to the informant. Justice and the FBI claim this Capitol Hill oversight would blow the cover of this non-spy and even endanger his life. Yet these same stories have disclosed so many specific details about the informant whom we dare not call a spy that you can discover the name of the likeliest suspect in a single Google search.

We now know, for example, that the informant is “an American academic who teaches in Britain” who “served in previous Republican administrations.” He has worked as a “longtime U.S. intelligence source” for the FBI and the CIA.

The stories provide the names of the three Trump campaign officials who the informant sought to court— Carter Page, Sam Clovis and George Papadopoulos —as well as specific dates and details of the encounters. He met with Mr. Page at a symposium at a “British university” in “mid-July,” and stayed in touch with him for more than year. He met with Mr. Clovis at a “hotel café in Crystal City,” Virginia, on “either Aug. 31 or Sept. 1.”

The informant didn’t previously know the three men but offered to help with the campaign. He also threw money at Mr. Papadopoulos, and the stories even report the exact language of the message the informant sent to Mr. Papadopoulos offering him a $3,000 honorarium to write a research paper and a paid trip to London. Media accounts differ about whether the informant asked the three men what they knew about Russia. But this sure sounds like a classic attempt to make friends for intelligence-gathering purposes.

This ought to disturb anyone who wants law enforcement and U.S. intelligence services to stay out of partisan politics. We can’t recall a similar case, even in the J. Edgar Hoover days, when the FBI decided it needed to snoop on a presidential campaign. Devin Nunes, the House Intelligence Chairman, is seeking documents to learn exactly what happened, what triggered this FBI action, and how it was justified. This is precisely the kind of oversight that Congress should provide to assure Americans that their government isn’t spying illegally.

Yet now the same people who lionized Edward Snowden for stealing secrets about metadata—which collected phone numbers, not names—claim the FBI informant is no big deal. James Clapper, Barack Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, claims it was even a “good thing” that the FBI was monitoring the campaign for Russian influence.

Forgive us if we don’t trust Mr. Clapper, who leaked details related to the notorious Steele dossier to the press, as a proper judge of such snooping. Would he and the press corps be so blasé if the FBI under George W. Bush had sought to insinuate sources with Obama supporters like Rev. Jeremiah Wright or radical Bill Ayers during the 2008 campaign?

Incredibly, Democrats and their media friends are painting Mr. Nunes as the villain for daring even to ask about all this. Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, is making the rounds warning that “the first thing any new” committee member “learns is the critical importance of protecting sources and methods.”

Sure, but as far as we know Mr. Nunes hasn’t disclosed the source’s name—certainly not to us—even as anonymous Justice officials all but paint a neon path of details to the informant’s door. Justice and the FBI have disclosed more to their media Boswells than they have to the people’s representatives in Congress.

      ***
As is his habit, President Trump belly-flopped into this debate over the weekend with demands that Justice investigate whether his campaign was spied on. Justice officials quickly asked the Inspector General to investigate, and this will polarize the political debate even further.

But the stakes here go beyond Mr. Trump’s political future. The public deserves to know who tasked the informant to seek out Trump campaign officials, what his orders were, what the justification was for doing so, and who was aware of it. Was the knowledge limited to the FBI, or did it run into the Obama White House?

As important, what are the standards for the future? Could a Trump FBI task agents to look into the foreign ties of advisers to the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign in 2020? Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein need to clear the air by sharing what they and the FBI know with the House. This is bigger than blowing a source whose identity Justice leakers have already blown. This is about public trust in the FBI and Justice.

A group of congressional Republicans plans to introduce a resolution Tuesday calling for the appointment of a second special counsel to investigate alleged misconduct at the FBI and Justice Department.

The resolution is backed by Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus as well as two of the group’s co-founders — Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla.

Fox News has learned the 12-page resolution will ask a second special counsel to probe matters related to three topics: The ending of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s personal email server, the progress of the Trump-Russia investigation from its origins through the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel, and abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) during the warrant application process.

The resolution is expected to say that a second special counsel would have greater autonomy to investigate those issues than the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General. Last week, Inspector General Michael Horowitz told lawmakers that he had completed his draft report on the Clinton investigation and submitted it to the DOJ and the FBI.

In March, Horowitz said he would also look into allegations that FBI and Justice Department officials abused their surveillance powers by using information compiled by Christopher Steele, a former British spy, and paid for by Democrats to justify monitoring Carter Page, a former campaign adviser to Trump.

At the time, Horowitz said his office would look at those claims as well as communications between Steele and DOJ and FBI officials.

Over the weekend, the Justice Department announced it had asked the watchdog to expand that investigation by examining whether any improper politically motivated surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016 took place.

  16. PARIS MIGRANT CRISIS COULD SPIRAL OUT OF CONTROL, WARN CHARITIES AFTER TWO DROWNINGS AND A STABBING:

A tense migrant crisis in Paris risks spiralling out of control unless the French state intervenes, a group of charities including the Red Cross warned on Thursday, days after two refugees drowned in canals and a third was stabbed.

Their plea came as daggers are drawn between Paris’ Socialist mayor Anne Hidalgo and President Emmanuel Macron’s government, with each claiming the other has failed to deal with the increasingly desperate plight of migrants in the French capital ahead of the 2020 municipal elections.

Nearly 3,000 of them, many from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan and Nigeria, are now crammed into tents in three insalubrious camps in Paris, with charities estimating that 80 more are arriving every day.

  26. In late April more than 50 members of the U.S. Congress condemned the government of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to glorify “Nazi collaborators.”

The letter, signed by both Republicans and Democrats, outlined concerns about ongoing ceremonies to glorify leaders of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army as well as 14th SS Galizien Division (aka 1stGalician/Galizien or the 1st Ukrainian Division). “It’s particularly troubling that much of the Nazi glorification in Ukraine is government-supported,” noted the letter to U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan. The letter was initiated by Democratic Reps. Ro Khanna of California and David Cicilline of Rhode Island.

Contrast that to how the Canadian government handled a related issue last year when the Russian Embassy in Ottawa tweeted out that, “There are monumets (sic) to Nazi collaborators in Canada and nobody is doing anything about it.”

A monument in Oakville commemorates those who served with the 14th SS Galizien Division. Another monument in Edmonton honors Roman Shukhevych, the leader of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

As my Postmedia colleague Marie-Danielle Smith discovered, the Russian tweet sent bureaucrats at Global Affairs Canada into overdrive as they tried to defend the SS unit and Ukrainian Nazi collaborators. Documents she received through the Access to Information law show government officials were under a lot of pressure from the “Centre” (the Privy Council Office and the Prime Minister’s Office) to counter the news about the monuments to Nazi collaborators. The bureaucrats came up with a strategy. The would label the tweet as “disinformation” and they came up with a plan to spread the word to the news media as part of their efforts to defend Ukraine’s Nazi collaborators.

Now as I have written before, the Russians are more than happy to try to embarrass the Canadian government, which has steadfastly stood behind the Ukrainian government in the ongoing conflict in the region. Suggesting that Canada allows monuments to Nazi collaborators seems to fit that bill.

But in this case the Russian tweets aren’t “fake news” or “disinformation.” They are accurate.

As those members of the U.S. Congress have pointed out, the Ukrainians who served in the SS Galizien Division were indeed Nazi collaborators.

    So too was Roman Shukhevych.

Before going to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Shukhevych was commander of the Ukrainian battalion called Nachtigall. The men of Nachtigall rounded up Jews in Lviv in June 1941, massacring men, women and children. The Simon Wiesenthal Center estimates that the Nachtigall Battalion, along with their German military counterparts, managed to murder around 4,000 Jews in Lviv. Other historians put the estimate at around 6,000.

Shukhevych was later assigned to a new unit whose role in Germany’s war, according to one Holocaust expert, was “fighting partisans and killing Jews.” Shukhevych later turned against the Nazis.

  33. John Kerry spits in Trump’s face, saying we will not go ‘America First’
By Daily Caller News Foundation May 21, 2018

Former Secretary of State John Kerry warned President Donald Trump Sunday that Democrats are not afraid to go against his “America First” policies.

“We won’t win, any of us, ultimately, by retreating within our borders, by focusing on our own nations only, or by going it alone,” Kerry told those gathered at New York University’s Abu Dhabi’s commencement ceremony Sunday — a direct reference to the president’s “America First” trade and immigration policies.

Kerry served as the secretary of state for former President Barack Obama. He also, notably, was one of the key negotiators for the administration when it was finalizing the Iran nuclear deal, which Trump backed out of on May 8.

Kerry lashed out against the president in early May for withdrawing from the deal, calling the administration out for stopping a “working” strategy.

The treachery of “Crossfire Hurricane” comes into the light.
    May 21, 2018
    Matthew Vadum

On Sunday a justifiably outraged President Trump called for the former Obama administration to be investigated for its unprecedented and profoundly un-American spying and sabotage operation against the 2016 Trump campaign.

“I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the [Federal Bureau of Investigation/Department of Justice] infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!” Trump tweeted Sunday at 1:37 p.m.

Just the day before, President Trump had written on Twitter, “If the FBI or DOJ was infiltrating a campaign for the benefit of another campaign, that is a really big deal.”

The presidential demand for action comes after days of dramatic, detailed revelations about the plot to undermine the Trump campaign, transition team, and presidency began surfacing in news accounts.

On Thursday it was revealed that the FBI illicitly put together a spy ring as part of something called Operation Crossfire Hurricane and that at least one informant was a member of the Trump campaign.

On Friday the New York Times reported the campaign-embedded snitch was an American teaching in the United Kingdom.

  38. Leftist Privilege: Poisoned in Iceland A Year Ago, No One Arrested
Unless you’re a Leftist, you’ll get no justice in Iceland.
    May 21, 2018
    Robert Spencer

    https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/270227/leftist-privilege-poisoned-iceland-year-ago-no-one-robert-spencer

Just over a year ago, a young Icelandic Leftist poisoned me in Reykjavik after I gave a lecture on the jihad threat. In the hospital thereafter, a Leftist doctor neglected to perform basic tests on me, such that I could have easily died from the poisoning. A year later, no one has been arrested, and Iceland’s medical ethics board has declined to discipline the doctor. The whole episode illustrates what those who are known to dissent from the Leftist agenda can expect from Leftist authorities: institutionalized indifference and injustice.

The poisoning took place at a crowded Reykjavik establishment. A young Icelander called me by name, leaned over our table, shook my hand, and said he was a big fan.

About fifteen minutes later, when I got back in my hotel room, I began to feel numbness in my face, hands, and feet. I began trembling and vomiting. My heart was racing dangerously. I spent the night in a Reykjavik hospital.

What had happened quickly became clear and was soon confirmed by a hospital test: someone had dropped drugs into my drink – most likely the young man who had leaned over our table and said he was a “big fan.” For several days thereafter I was quite ill.

Since Iceland is a small country and everyone knows everyone else, I was quickly able to discover the identity, phone number, and Facebook page of the primary suspect, the young man who claimed he was a “big fan.” I looked at his Facebook page, and as I expected, saw nothing that might indicate that he really was a “big fan” of my work, or that he held any views out of the mainstream — which is, courtesy of Iceland’s political and media elites, dominated entirely by the Left.

George Soros funds opponent of the Sacramento DA that busted the Golden State Killer.
    May 21, 2018
    Lloyd Billingsley

From the late 1970s through 1986, a vicious criminal terrorized California with 12 murders and more than 40 rapes. In late April, police in Sacramento arrested Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, charging that he was the Golden State Killer, the Original Night Stalker, and the East Area Rapist.

“The answer has always been in Sacramento,” said Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert. “For forty years, countless victims have waited for justice.”

Schubert organized the press conference that brought district attorneys from central and southern California, where the Golden State Killer had raped and murdered. Now leftist billionaire George Soros is bankrolling a campaign to oppose Schubert and on June 5 elect Noah Phillips, a self-proclaimed progressive who touts “social justice” themes.

As the Sacramento Bee reports, “Soros has funneled about $400,000 to Phillips through his California Justice & Public Safety PAC” and has been “spending heavily this year to flip district attorney races for progressive candidates all over California and in several other states.” Activist Shaun King has kicked in $40,000 and Phillips’ endorsers include Sen. Kamala Harris, who got her start under Willie Brown and received $5,400 from Soros for her 2016 Senate campaign.

A sign has been posted on the border that separates the United States from one of its two geographical neighbors. Its message is clear and unmistakeable. It reads simply:

    Stop

It is illegal to cross the border here or any place other than a Port of Entry.

You will be arrested and detained if your cross here.

That sign was not posted on the border that is supposed to separate the United States from Mexico on the southern U.S. border.

You may also be surprised to know that the sign was not erected by President Trump or Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

It was not erected by any official of the DHS such as the Director of the U.S. Border Patrol, nor was the sign posted by any official of any government agency in the United States on the federal, state or local level.

  41. BURLINGTON, Vt. — Independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders said Monday he will run for re-election on an agenda that would prioritize working families.
The campaign said Sanders would kick off his re-election bid with a series of rallies across Vermont next month.
In his statement, Sanders, who is among the list of possible contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, said it has been an honor to serve Vermonters and that there is more to be done for working families across the country.
“Our struggle to create a government which represents all of us and not just the one percent — a government based on the principles of economic, social, racial and environmental justice — must continue,” Sanders wrote in a statement released by the campaign.
