  3. Does Iran scream “Death to the EU!”? Indeed why would America allow a sworn enemy anywhere near The Bomb. Why should anyone? If a member of the EU hides behind a rock, does the rock say, “Hey, Muslim, there’s an Italian hiding behind me. Come and kill him.”?

    Diplomacy’s greatest triumph? As if. More like its greatest failure and shame. Suckers all of them.

    We may be witnessing the birth of a great man in President Trump.

    • I don’t care if he IS an egomaniac; I don’t care if he thinks he’s better than the rest of us mortals (maybe he is!): he is standing up to bullies and aggressors and taking the part of the weaker members of society who have little or no say. Opposing the powerful; protecting the weak: is that not what a hero does?

      • I’ve known two-bit musicians with bigger egos. Besides I’ve seen Trump’s kind. There’s more street smarts than ego once you understand them.

        • Ego makes for big bluster and brag that you have a hard time backing up, so far he has shown street smarts about how to handle the bullies of the world. Bullies that the previous Presidents gave their lunch money.

        “Let’s see what happens, I don’t know.
        We’ll try to work something out together. I don’t know, but I hope so.
        Let’s see how it goes.”

        Is THAT ego? Is THAT bluster?

        No, he doesn’t hold all the cards or read minds.

        But he sure knows how to use all the cards he does have, how to play for better ones. He’s been a high-roller at nosebleed-level for decades.

        He’s reading people, not minds. He’s engaged in exchanges he knows to be dynamic. Prepared for known unknowns, THAT’s prudent, not arrogant.

        Like a boxer: When he’s in the ring, he’s the heavyweight with the footwork that dazzles. Who rolls with the punches like an aikido blackbelt.

        He’s a user and a player and he’s all OURS.
        But that’s just the beginning.

        This game is NON-zero-sum.
        In a generous world – for believers, the work of a beneficent Creator – we can all win something, if not all we desire. No one needs to lose for someone to win.

        Zero-sum totalitarians don’t see the world this way. We can try to reason with them, maybe they’ll come around. But we’re not delusional.

        Predators rights end where our self-defense STOPS them.
        No bluster, that’s as absolute as anything in the world, as life and death.

      If I am right about WWIII starting soon the world may have found the Churchill of the coming war.

      • WWIII was the cold or proxy war. WWIV has started: it is just that many, including some here, do not want to know about it and ignore the fact that the west is being invaded on all fronts by hostile aliens. If that does not define war then someone tell me what does.

  5. Report in Syria: Israel attacked in the Damascus region

    Syrian media reported on Tuesday evening that a number of explosions were heard south of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

    According to some of the reports, Israeli planes that missiles at Iranian targets near Damascus.

    The official Syrian news agency reported that Syrian air defense systems had destroyed two Israeli missiles south of the capital.

    Earlier on Tuesday evening, the IDF asked authorities in the Golan Heights to open and prepare missile shelters over “irregular activity by Iranian forces in Syria”, across the demarcationline.

    “Following the identification of irregular activity of Iranian forces in Syria, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) has decided to change the civilian protection instructions in the Golan Heights and instructs local authorities to unlock and ready shelters in the area,” the army said in a statement.

    At the same time, the Education Ministry decided to cancel all school trips to the Golan Heights, following the tension on the northern border.

    In response, Iran said it was preparing to restart uranium enrichment, key for making both nuclear energy and weapons.

    Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said: “The US has announced that it doesn’t respect its commitments.

    “I have ordered the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran to be ready to start the enrichment of uranium at industrial levels.”

    He said he would “wait a few weeks” to speak to allies and the other signatories to the nuclear deal.

  8. Canada reaffirms support for Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)

    May 8, 2018 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

    The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:

    “Canada supports an effective rules-based international order, and believes that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is essential to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapons capability and to ensure greater regional and global security.

    “Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. The JCPOA has subjected Iran’s nuclear program to a rigorous and unprecedented international verification regime by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

    “The JCPOA, agreed to with Iran in 2015 and endorsed by the UN Security Council, is not perfect. It has, however, helped to curb a real threat to international peace and security.

    “At the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting two weeks ago, all countries agreed: ‘We are committed to permanently ensuring that Iran’s nuclear program remains exclusively peaceful, in line with its Non Proliferation Treaty obligations and its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.’

    “Canada regrets that the United States has decided to withdraw from the JCPOA, particularly given that, according to the IAEA, Iran continues to implement its JCPOA commitments.

    “Canada condemns Iran’s ongoing development of its ballistic missile program and its ballistic missile launches, which are destabilizing for the region. Canada maintains sanctions that target Iran’s ballistic missile programs.

    “We continue to oppose Iran’s support for terrorist organizations, its threats toward Israel, and its support for the Assad regime in Syria. We will continue to work closely with our allies and partners to hold Iran to account.”
