  1. India: 2 militants, 1 civilian dead in violent clashes with security forces in Kashmir

Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were gunned down by the Indian police in Drabgam area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday as deadly clashes also claimed a civilian’s life.

Civilians were allegedly trying to repel the Indian security forces by throwing stones as they closed down on the militants’ hideout making heavy use of teargas to disperse the crowds.

  2. Despicable Liberals Harassing the NRA’s Top Lobbyist at His House

Chris Cox is one of the top lobbyists and most outspoken mouthpieces for the National Rifle Association, so we would not be lining up to pity him if he was dealing with trolls on Twitter or argumentative liberals in Washington. That’s part of the gig. The NRA has, for better or worse, become a politically contentious organization because the left has made the eradication of guns one of their primary objectives. The Second Amendment stands as firm as it ever has, but Democrats are determined to make their opposition to our gun rights a major plank in their platform. In other words, a guy like Cox knows what he’s getting into.

But there’s a huge difference between being forced to debate liberals – something Cox is plenty equipped to do – and having your life destroyed by whacko leftists who drank a little too much Kool-Aid. And that’s what’s happening to Cox and his family right now. Crazed leftists who don’t realize that the “NRA is a terrorist organization” storyline is just a Democrat Party fundraising tool have made the demonization of Chris Cox a part-time job. They are stalking his family, vandalizing his home, and trying to ruin his wife’s career, all in the name of anti-gun righteousness. It’s a foul display of liberal immaturity and one of the more disturbing signs of how an irresponsible media can drive irrational nutjobs beyond the breaking point.

The Washington Post did a feature on the protesters this week. They include Amanda Gailey and Patricia Hill, two professors from Nebraska, and Catherine Koebel, a biologist from Cox’s home state of Virginia. Together, these women protest outside Cox’s home and his wife’s interior design business. The Post notes that while Gailey and Koebel have been careful to stay on the legal side of the line, Hill has been arrested and charged with vandalizing Cox’s home with fake blood. She’s currently awaiting her day in court.

In the meantime, here are some quotes from the other two ladies:

“I don’t think the Cox family is getting enough social pressure,” said Gailey. “People need to stop treating these predatory, sick people like they’re just a neighbor.”

“If I made him uncomfortable at his house, too bad; he deserves it,” Koebel said. “I felt unsafe in my home because of his product.”

On whether or not it was really appropriate to take this kind of action outside a person’s private residence, Gailey said: “It is aggressive. I wouldn’t do that unless we were protesting someone who I believe is a truly indefensible human being.”

That’s a really dangerous point of view. A truly indefensible human being. Well, you can justify a lot of crazy stuff when that’s what you believe about a person.

And they wonder why people want to protect their right to own guns…

    http://totalconservative.com/despicable-liberals-harassing-the-nras-top-lobbyist-at-his-house/

The attitude expressed by the protesters are why they are going to turn violent, they are losing and will resort to violence because they are so arrogant and self righteous that they can’t see why they are one of the reasons people want to be armed.

    • ‘Iran is NOT BLUFFING’ Tehran issues chilling nuclear bomb threat to Trump and West (express, Apr 30, 2018)
      https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/953133/trump-iran-nucelar-bomb-uranium-nuclear-deal

“IRAN’S top nuclear chief says they are prepared to enrich uranium to a higher level than before 2015 nuclear deal.

The country’s nuclear chief Akbar Salehi said on Iran state TV he hoped the US President would come to his senses and not pull out of the multinational deal.

US President Donald Trump has given European signatories of the 2015 deal a May 12 deadline to “fix the terrible flaws” in the agreement, or he will refuse to extend US sanctions relief on Iran.

Mr Salehi warned Trump against taking this course and said that Iran is not bluffing.

He said: “Technically, we are fully prepared to enrich uranium higher than we used to produce before the deal was reached… I hope Trump comes to his senses and stays in the deal.”…”

  3. Return of the Migrant Crisis: Greece ‘Overwhelmed’ as Illegals Surge Across Turkish Land Border (breitbart, Apr 30, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/30/return-migrant-crisis-greece-overwhelmed-illegals-surge-turkish-border/

“Greece is being “overwhelmed” by illegal migrants surging across its land border with Turkey, with a local mayor warning the situation is “on the verge of spinning out of control”.

The country bore the brunt of the 2015 influx, which saw over 815,000 illegal migrants traverse the Aegean Sea in dangerous watercraft.

This figure was reduced to 30,000 in 2017 after the European Union persuading the Turkish government to step up containment efforts following a multi-billion euro deal — partly financed by the United Kingdom.

The major action then shifted from Greece to the so-called Central Mediterranean Route from Libya to Italy. But this, too, was brought under partial control in late 2017 after the Italian authorities cracked down on so-called “rescue” ships operated by pro-migration NGOs and began incentivising the Libyan coast guard to intercept smuggler-boats.

Germany’s new government went so far as the declare that the migrant crisis was over as a result of these developments — but its reignition on the Greco-Turkish border appears to have vindicated more judicious leaders, such as Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, who believe it is just beginning….”

  4. Somali Migrant with Multiple Weapons Convictions Jailed for Stabbing Woman After Sex Attack (breitbart, Apr 30, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/30/somali-migrant-multiple-weapons-convictions-jailed-stabbing-london-woman/

“A Somali immigrant with multiple convictions for possessing a blade was jailed for attempted murder after he stabbed a London woman multiple times.

Sabir Sharife, 32, was sentenced to ‘life’ in prison on Monday for a sex attack on a 27-year-old woman that was described by Prosecutor Sarah Campbell as an incident that would “send a chill down the spine” of anyone travelling late at night in London, reports Court News.

The victim had been out with friends at the Queen Adelaide pub in Hackney Road and after boarding the wrong bus to go home, got off yards from the Shuttleworth Hostel where the Somali lived.

Spotting the 27-year-old, Sharife stalked her through the streets of Hackney – a London borough under the stewardship of Labour MPs Diane Abbott and Meg Hillier – carrying a large serrated knife.

Grabbing her by the jeans and brandishing the weapon, he sexually assaulted her during the small hours of April 9th, 2017, and then stabbed her multiple times in the face, neck, chest, and arm.

The woman fought off her attacker and passers-by came to her aid after they heard her screaming. She then passed out through loss of blood.

The jury at the Old Bailey heard that the woman’s palm had almost been severed from her fingers as she fought back the attack, and she sustained permanent facial scarring as well as psychological damage…”

  5. Danish Yemeni-Origin Citizen Jailed in Malaysia Under New ‘Fake News’ Law (breitbart, Apr 30, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/30/danish-yemeni-origin-citizen-jailed-malaysia-new-fake-news-law/

“A Malaysian court on Monday sentenced a Danish citizen to a week in jail after he pleaded guilty to maliciously publishing false information, the first person to be punished under a controversial anti-fake news law.

The legislation was approved by parliament earlier this month despite criticism that it was aimed at silencing dissent ahead of a May 9 general election. It carries a maximum penalty of six years in jail and a fine of 500,000 ringgit ($128,000).

Salah Salem Saleh Sulaiman was detained April 23, two days after he claimed in a YouTube video that he was with a Hamas scientist who was gunned down in Malaysia by two assailants on a motorcycle. Salah claimed he made countless calls to police who were slow to respond, and that an ambulance came an hour later.

Local media said Salah didn’t personally know the victim, Fadi al-Batsh, a Palestinian electrical engineering lecturer in Malaysia who was a member of Gaza’s ruling Hamas group.

The court sentenced Salah, who is of Yemeni descent and is in Malaysia on a holiday, to a week in jail from the day of his arrest and fined him 10,000 ringgit ($2,550).

Local media quoted Salah, who was not represented by a lawyer, as telling the court that he had only been in Malaysia for 10 days and didn’t know the country had an anti-fake news law. He said his action was a mistake and apologized.

Salah reportedly said he didn’t have money to pay the fine and will have to serve another month in jail instead.”

  6. ‘ISIS supporter’ denies encouraging attack on Prince George by publishing address of his school alongside the message ‘Even the royal family will not be left alone’ (dailymail, Apr 30, 2018)

“An alleged ISIS supporter has denied encouraging an attack on Prince George by posting details of his school on an encrypted social media platform.

Husnain Rashid, 32, from Nelson, Lancashire, entered not guilty pleas to a series of charges at Woolwich Crown Court today, including allegations he plotted attacks on football stadiums.

Rashid was allegedly in touch with an ISIS operative in Syria and was seeking to get to Syria to join the terrorist group.

The new charges also allege that Rashid, an unemployed web designer, was running his own ‘brand’ on the Telegram application which he used to encourage lone wolf attacks.

It was alleged that he posted details about the eldest son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on an encrypted forum.

The details were said to include a photograph of Prince George, the address of his school, and a black silhouette of a jihadi fighter with the caption: ‘Even the royal family will not be left alone.’…”

  7. CIA Fails to Organize Prison Break for Doctor Who Helped Find Bin Laden – Source (sputniknews, Apr 30, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201804301064034449-pakistan-doctor-us-bin-laden/

“Washington has offered Islamabad to exchange Shakil Afridi, who helped catch Osama bin Laden, for Pakistani scientist Aafia Siddiqui who is serving a jail term in the United States, according to anonymous sources speaking to Sputnik.

The CIA failed to conduct an operation to stage a prison break for Pakistani physician Shakil Afridi who had helped the US authorities track down founder of al-Qaeda Osama bin Laden, according to a source familiar with the situation.

“The CIA planned to pull Dr. Shakil Afridi from the Peshawar prison, trying to organize a prison break, but the attempt was disrupted by [Pakistan’s] ISI [Inter-Services
Intelligence]. A local informant who also worked for the CIA handed over information about this [CIA plan], and was aware of the plan. ISI became aware that [the CIA] was also interested in the plan of the prison itself,” a source who refused to reveal his name told Sputnik.

The information has been confirmed by another source speaking to Sputnik, who said that Washington had earlier turned to Islamabad with a request to extradite Afridi to the US.

“Special services protect the informants who had been disclosed in order to preserve the confidence of other secret agents and informants working with them, especially in foreign countries. Because of this, the CIA has repeatedly asked for [the extradition] of Afridi. This was one of the main demands on the list of requirements for Pakistan by President Trump,” another source said.

The source went on to suggest that the release of Afridi and his extradition to the US is crucial for other CIA operations in the Asian region.

“Apparently, Pakistan refused to release Dr. Afridi because of the army’s position, which believes that this will not only violate the sovereignty of the country and undermine its legal system, but will also bolster the [US] intelligence activity. Pakistan has also refused to exchange [Afridi] for Aafia Siddiqui.”

The development comes in the wake of reports that Afridi was transferred from a Peshawar prison to another facility. A source familiar with the situation told Sputnik the doctor was placed in another jail because of the planned prison break.

The source also said that the issue of Afridi’s release is one of the major obstacles to the improvement of the ties between the US and Pakistan.

The CIA, in turn, refused to comment on the news that Pakistani intelligence thwarted the agency’s plan to orchestrate a prison escape for Afridi.

Also on Monday, a US Department of State official told Sputnik that Washington hopes that the Pakistani authorities will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Shakeel Afridi…”

  8. Social Media Raves as Girls in Wigs, Beards Sneak Into Football Stadium in Iran (sputniknews, Apr 30, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/viral/201804301064038369-iran-women-football-ban-viral/

“A gang of female football fans wanted to watch their team celebrate the championship in the Persian Gulf Pro League so badly that they gambled with an Iranian ban on women at sports events with a movie-like plot. Their feed from the venue has ignited social media.

Five Iranian women had to play a dress-up trick to pass the security at the central Azadi Stadium in Tehran, as they wanted to share a triumphant moment with their favorite team Persepolis. As women are banned from men’s sports events in Iran, they had to wear men’s clothes, fake beards and wigs to get past the security to get to the stands.

Photos and a video of the disguised outlaws, celebrating their team’s gold medal at the 11th championship of Iran’s Persian Gulf Pro League, went viral after the intruders dared to post them on social media…”

  10. Anti-migrant League party wins big in Italian regional vote (abcnews, Apr 30, 2018)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/anti-migrant-league-party-wins-big-italian-regional-54826504

“Italy’s right-wing League party has a new regional election win, fueling its determination Monday to govern the entire country.

Final results on Monday showed the anti-migrant League’s candidate for governor, Massimiliano Federiga, capturing 57 percent of the votes cast Sunday for the center-right campaign alliance which backed him in the balloting in the northeast Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The victory expands the League’s solid dominance in Italy’s affluent north.

League senator Roberto Calderoli said the latest triumph should make Italy’s president “reflect” on his next move in trying to nudge the country’s squabbling parties into forming a national coalition government following an election in March.

The populist 5-Star Movement trailed badly in Sunday’s ballot, with 11.7 percent. But in the March 4 vote, the 5-Stars triumphed in the economically lagging south, where their support has been soaring, and became Parliament’s largest party.

The League, led by Matteo Salvini, was part of a center-right bloc in the March vote that controls the largest number of seats in Parliament.

But neither the League nor the 5-Stars have enough lawmakers in Parliament to govern alone. Italy’s head of state, President Sergio Mattarella, has been sounding out leaders across the political spectrum to see whose forces could unite in a government with a solid parliamentary majority…”

  13. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) in-laws have ordered 10 massive cargo ships from the Chinese government since the senator’s wife Elaine Chao became Secretary of Transportation. The deep financial ties between the Chao family’s shipping business Foremost Group and the Chinese regime were first revealed in the #1 New York Times bestseller Secret Empires.
Foremost Group, which is owned by Sec. Elaine Chao’s father and Sen. McConnell’s father-in-law James S.C. Chao, signed contracts with a subsidiary of the state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) for four bulk cargo ships in June and September 2017. In December 2017, Chao’s company signed another contract with state-owned CSSC at Foremost’s New York office for two massive 210,000-ton ships. James S.C. Chao and two of Elaine’s sisters were in attendance. So, too, was the Consul General of China in New York, as well as representatives from the CSSC. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

  14. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is Everything Wrong with the Media
The free press has been tied up and locked in the basement by the crooked media.
    April 30, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

While President Trump rallied working class voters in Michigan, the Media-Industrial complex in Washington D.C. threw itself a narcissistic orgy known as the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The Dinner is, in theory, a charity event. But the only people who know that are reporters and Jeopardy trivia champions. In between the celebrity appearances and the obscene taunts aimed at women who work in the Trump administration, the media orgy is supposed to be fundraising to send kids to college.

    Sure.

The White House Correspondents’ Association went from spending 60% of its take on scholarships in 2009 to 23% in 2015. This year, the WHCA boasts that it’s spending $134,500 on scholarships.

That’s comparable to its executive compensation.

The Correspondents’ Dinner sells tickets. Buy a ticket and you get to sit next to a celebrity while listening to another unfunny Daily Show alum yell obscenities at the president and his staffers. It’s for charity.

  15. All Eyes On Upcoming Trump-Kim Jong-un Summit
What to expect from the North Korea regime.
    April 30, 2018
    Joseph Klein

Hugs, handshakes and smiles were much in evidence during what has been described as a “historic” summit meeting between North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in on April 27th. The meeting was held at the so-called “Peace House” on the southern side of the border between the two countries that are still technically in a state of war with each other. As a symbolic gesture, Kim Jong-un stepped over the line of demarcation into South Korea and invited Moon Jae-in to step across the border into North Korea. The two leaders acted like two long lost cousins who had suddenly found each other. Kim said he felt a “swirl of emotion.” Moon characterized Kim’s crossing of the border as a “sign of peace, not a sign of division.”

Aside from planting a ceremonial tree with water and soil from both countries, the only tangible output from the summit meeting was a joint declaration entitled the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula. It called for talks, including with the United States and possibly China, to declare an official end to the Korean War. The two leaders also committed, without any specifics as to timetable, conditions or what denuclearization even means in practical terms, to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Nature shows have all sorts of incredible feats.

There are swimmers who survived attacks by sharks by punching them in the nose while leaving the severed stumps of their hands in their jaws. And there are hikers who pried their feet out of the slaving jaws of bears. And there’s one Seattle man who tried to pry $10 out of the greedy paws of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The shark and the bear are nothing compared to that feat.

  17. Macron Vs. Reality
Slippery words from a shameless Islam appeaser.
    April 30, 2018
    Bruce Bawer

Last week, Emmanuel Micron, I mean Macron, visited Washington, had dinner at the White House, and gave a speech on Capitol Hill in which he referred to Hemingway’s memoir A Moveable Feast as a novel, identified the French architect of Washington, D.C., whom Americans know as Pierre L’Enfant, by his middle name, Charles, and attributed a famous line by Ronald Reagan to Teddy Roosevelt. The line in question was the one about how freedom is never more than one generation from extinction.

There was, in fact, a good deal of rhetoric in his speech about freedom – and the threats thereto. Given what’s going on in France these days, that would only make sense. But his approach to his country’s – and the West’s – current travails was, to say the least, curious. On 9/11, asserted Macron, “many Americans had an unexpected rendezvous with death.” How poetic! How French! And how inappropriate a way to refer to thousands of people being evaporated one fine Tuesday morning. He made it sound as if death by jihad had been their divinely ordained destiny – as if the hijackers of those planes had been instruments of some cosmic will.

Macron went on to mention the “terrible terrorist attacks” that have struck his own country in recent years. “It is a horrific price,” he pronounced, “to pay for freedom, for democracy.” Meaning what? In what sense are such attacks the “price” we “pay for freedom”? Did Macron mean something like what London mayor Sadiq Khan meant when he said that living with terrorism is “part and parcel of living in a big city”? I’d say the people who died on 9/11 were paying for American leaders’ blithe indifference to the existential danger of Islam – and that those who’ve died in more recent terror attacks in Europe were paying for their own leaders’ cowardly irresolution (or outright defeatism) on the subject.

  18. The Irreproducibility Crisis of Modern Science
How defective science harms public policy and damages our public schools.
    April 30, 2018
    Lloyd Billingsley

“Most Americans don’t even know that the crisis exists,” explain David Randall and Christopher Welser of the National Association of Scholars. Help has now arrived in The Irreproducibility Crisis of Modern Science: Cause, Consequences and the Road to Reform. The general reader might find the title puzzling but the concept is simple.

If a scientific study is to be legitimate, it must be reproducible because replication allows examination of the data and the possibility of different conclusions. If the study is not reproducible it is not really science, and as the authors show, that type of non-science is now common.

In June of 2016, Oona Lönnstedt and Peter Eklöv of Uppsala University published a paper in Science warning of the dangers of microplastic particles in the ocean. The study got considerable media attention but as it turned out, “Lönnstedt never performed the research that she and Eklöv reported.” So in philosophical terms, it had an existential problem, and veracity is also an issue.

In 2005, Dr. John Ioannidis argued, “shockingly and persuasively,” that most published research findings in his own field of medicine were false. This was due to many factors, including the limitations of statistics, “intellectual prejudices and conflicts of interest,” and researchers striving to produce positive results “in fashionable areas of research.” Based on these factors, the findings in other scientific fields were probably wrong too.

  19. ‘The Death of Stalin’: A Cautionary Masterpiece
A brilliant new dark comedy with important lessons for our times.
    April 30, 2018
    Robert Orlando

When I originally read the title, “The Death of Stalin,” I said to myself this can only be a zany comedy or a really, really depressing drama. Beria and Khrushchev as lead characters of what? Then I saw the film. Hats off to writer/director Armando Iannucci — also the creator of HBO’s Emmy-winning series Veep — who has created a film of deeply dark dramatization that tears away the Iron Curtain to expose a farcical power struggle among Stalin’s cronies after the Soviet leader’s death in 1953.

Fear, corruption, and sadism careen around this political satire, set in the aftermath of Stalin’s death in the former Soviet Union. Frankly, I thought about waiting a day or two to write this review in case I was too effusive with praise. But walking out of the theater it struck me: The Death of Stalin is something akin to the mad-capped “Noises Off” (1992) meets “The Producers” (2005), with a splash of evil comedy. I couldn’t resist the urge to recommend this incredible piece.

The film captures the Soviet Weltanschauung at a pivotal and historic transition — an era and episode in Cold War history that amounted to nothing more than a mask of human treachery — but in this case, amplified by the audience’s stunned reaction of uncontrollable, wicked laughter. Iannucci delivers a collective, therapeutic moment for the unimaginable pain caused by 20th Century Russian tyranny in the name of anti-Western idealism.

  20. Hospital That Killed Alfie Has Been Caught Selling Child Organs

This must be the pride of socialized medicine.

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, England, became notorious in international headlines last week as the site of the legal “execution” of a stricken toddler over the wishes of his parents, as well supporters of the parents on both sides of the Atlantic, and even in the Holy See.

But the hospital had a well-documented history of being the scene of abusive medical practices long before it admitted young Alfie Evans into what became his death chamber.

As the pro-life group Live Action reminded the public in a social media post Friday, Alder Hey was at the center of a British National Health Service scandal in the 1990s that involved hospitals throughout the national socialized medicine network harvesting and storing the organs of deceased children without the knowledge of the children’s parents.

A summary of a government report about the scandal, published by the U.K. Guardian in 2001, noted that the dead children’s “parents were distraught to find that thousands of body parts had been removed and kept in hospital storage.”

According to The Guardian, the organs in those cases were removed during autopsies, a standard practice. But the families were never informed that parts of the bodies of their children had been kept for research purposes.

But Alder Hey took that a step further by getting paid for some of the body parts it harvested.

The hospital actually transferred the thymus glands removed from living children during heart surgery to the French vaccine maker Aventis Pasteur in exchange for a small “donation.”

  21. INCESTUOUS! House Intel Report Reveals Who’s Really Behind Trump-Russia Investigation

April 30, 2018 By Erik Walters

The recently released report revealed that a group of wealthy donors from New York and California shelled out $50 million to fund a Russia investigation being conducted by Christopher Steele, Fusion GPS and a former Dianne Feinstein staff member.

That information is found in a footnote of the House Intelligence Committee’s newly released report on Russian interference in the presidential campaign. The report verifies that Fusion GPS hired Steele, a former MI6 agent, to investigate Trump’s activities in Russia. 22. Canada Now Wants U.S. To Enforce Its Immigration Laws — To Protect Canada
Canada wants closer scrutiny of Nigerian visitors, many of whom eventually migrate to Canada.

Canadian authorities, concerned with the increasing number of illegal immigrants now straining their resources, want the United States to do a better job enforcing its own immigration law and vetting visitors from Nigeria so that they don’t eventually make their way to Canadian soil.

According to The Washington Post, since it’s become more difficult to stay in the United States on a temporary visa, Nigerians are requesting tourist visas from the United States, which already require a certain amount of vetting, but before those visas fully expire, the Nigerians are “walking into Canada” where they are requesting asylum.

  23. Ok – I cannot find the actual link, which is in itself a bit of news. When I type the key words to my search engine (not Google), I get a TON of links about Asian men being arrested for offensive things, like, say, rape or attempted rape or assault etc…..but not this very story.

  24. An Indian judge in Britain’s High Court has ordered a London coroner to give priority to Jews and Muslims instead of white British people when determining the order in which bodies can be buried, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) has triumphantly reported.

According to a JTA report, the court case arose when London Senior coroner Mary Hassell announced that she would not prioritize Jewish and Muslim burials over others.

The High Court on Friday called Hassell’s “cab-rank rule” policy (which means a first-come, first-served policy) was “unlawful, irrational” and “discriminatory,” according to the London-based Jewish Chronicle.

Hassell is the senior coroner at the St. Pancras Coroner’s Office in central London. Her jurisdiction covers the largest concentration of haredi Orthodox Jews in Europe and the United Kingdom’s biggest “Muslim community.”

The London-based Adath Yisrael Burial Society (AYBS) took Hassell to court alleging “widespread distress” among the two faith communities.

“The fundamental flaw in the present policy adopted by the defendant is that it fails to strike any balance at all, let alone a fair balance,” Lord Justice Singh wrote in his majority opinion.

“What on its face looks like a general policy which applies to everyone equally may in fact have an unequal impact on a minority. In other words, to treat everyone in the same way is not necessarily to treat them equally. Uniformity is not the same thing as equality,” the decision said.

As Greece struggles with accelerating economic decline and an increasing lack of public faith in the political leadership, the ruling Syriza coalition appears to be adopting a strategy of garnering votes from immigrants by expediting their naturalization process.

According to a recent report in the Greek daily Parapolitika, Interior Minister Panos Skourletis is laying the groundwork to enable hundreds of thousands of immigrants to become citizens and vote in the next elections. Although the mandate of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras ends in September 2019, some analysts have been predicting a call for elections by the end of 2018.

Until now, candidates for Greek citizenship had to be vetted by a committee. Under the new system, applicants will be granted citizenship automatically if they correctly answer 20 out of 30 questions online. In addition, the government is planning to allow immigrants over the age of 65 to obtain Greek IDs, without testing their knowledge of the Greek language. In other words, it will be easier to obtain Greek citizenship than a Greek fishing license. As a result, a total of 800,000 immigrants — almost one-tenth of the native Greek population — will soon become citizens. Transposed to the United States, that would be the equivalent of 32,000,000 new voters.

  27. Netanyahu reveals evidence that Iran lied about its nuclear weapons program

In a speech in Tel Aviv on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Israeli intelligence had acquired tens of thousands of files, which, he said, proved that Iran had lied about its nuclear weapons program.

The files also reportedly prove that Iran has been secretly continuing its program under the nose of international inspectors.

  28. President Trump said Monday that fresh disclosures by Israel about Iran’s nuclear-weapons ambitions prove that he’s “100 percent right” in seeking a tougher agreement with Tehran.

“What’s happening today, and what we’ve learned has really shown that I’m 100 percent right,” Mr. Trump said at a White House news conference.

Mr. Trump refused to say whether he intends to de-certify the Iranian nuclear agreement by a May 12 congressional deadline.

“I’m not telling you what I’m doing,” the president said. “That doesn’t mean we won’t negotiate a real agreement.”

  29. Following the two Korean leaders’ agreement to unify the time zones used in the South and North, Pyongyang’s parliament promptly fulfilled the promise made by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, its state-run Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Monday.

The Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly ? which has the same status as the South Korean National Assembly ? announced that it will adopt the time zone UTC+9, moving the nation’s time zone 30 minutes forward.

“The new time zone will be applied beginning May 5. To implement the decision, the Cabinet and authorities will come up with countermeasures,” the statement read.

The decree came after the South’s presidential spokesman Yoon Young-chan unveiled North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s remarks in a press briefing, Sunday. During the summit, Friday, Kim offered to unify the time systems between the two Koreas, according to Yoon.

“I feel sad to see that there are two clocks hung on the wall of the Peace House, one for Seoul time and the other for Pyongyang time,” Kim was quoted as saying by Yoon. “Since it is us who changed the time standard, we will return to the original one. You can make it public,” Kim added.

  30. In a letter to Reverend Samuel Cooper dated April 30, 1776, Samuel Adams writes of his hopes for another battle between British and American troops, stating his belief that, ” One battle would do more towards a Declaration of Independence than a long chain of conclusive arguments in a provincial convention or the Continental Congress.” At the time of the letter’s composition, General George Washington had successfully driven the British from Boston with his victory at Dorchester Heights on March 17. The British were left with very meager footholds in North America: Quebec, the Floridas and Nova Scotia, Canada.
