The number of foreigners in German prisons is increasing and as a result, the use of German language is becoming problematic, the Berliner Morgenpost reports.
In Hamburg, 58 percent of inmates are of foreign origin, and in Berlin, their proportion is at 47 percent. Horst Hund, chairman of the prison committee, thinks the migrant crisis is partly responsible:
“At least for Rhineland-Palatinate, the trend has intensified frm the year 2015. The assumption is obvious that the wave of immigration has to do with it”.

GOYANG, South Korea (AP) — The leaders of North and South Korea played it safe Friday, repeating a previous vow to rid the Korean Peninsula of nuclear weapons but failing to provide any specific new measures or forge a potential breakthrough on an issue that has captivated and terrified many since the rivals seemed on the verge of war last year.
In a sense, the vague joint statement produced by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in to achieve “a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula through complete denuclearization” kicks one of the world’s most pressing issues down the road to a much-anticipated summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump in coming weeks.
Even so, the Koreas’ historic summit Friday might be remembered as much for the sight of two men from nations with a deep and bitter history of acrimony holding each other’s hands and grinning from ear to ear after Kim walked over the border to greet Moon, and then both briefly stepped together into the North and back to the South.
Standing at a podium next to Moon after the talks ended, Kim faced a wall of cameras beaming his image live to the world and declared that the Koreas are “linked by blood as a family and compatriots who cannot live separately.”

Parts of Waterford city were closed down this afternoon after a bomb scare was reported to gardaí.
The Mall in Waterford city centre was closed to traffic and buildings in the area were evacuated.
WLRFM is reporting that a person rang Gardai to inform them a bomb had been left on the premises of the Cafe Royal in the Theatre Royal.
Armed gardai were seen in the area.

The U.S. Army granted a rare religious accommodation to a Fort Leonard Wood staff sergeant who is a member of the “Heathen, Norse Pagan faith.”
The move came as a result of the Army authorizing beards for religious soldiers in January 2017 as part of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a move specifically enacted for Sikh soldiers but applied to all religions, Army Times reported.
“In observance of your Heathen, Norse Pagan faith, you may wear a beard, in accordance with Army uniform and grooming standards for soldiers with approved religious accommodations provided in Army Regulation (AR) 670-1, Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia,” stated a memo, authenticated by an Army spokeswoman, that circulated on social media.
“All proper procedures outlined in Army Directives 2017-03 and 2016-34 were followed when requesting and approving this religious accommodation,” a spokeswoman from Missouri’s Fort Leonard Wood told Fox News.

Inger Støjberg has lashed out against what she claimed to be widespread cheating among migrants and refugees, which is aimed at securing various benefits and often goes unpunished.
A significant proportion of refugees in Denmark cheat regarding family reunions, provide false data and attempt to swindle the state, Danish Integration and Immigration Minister Inger Støjberg of the ruling Liberal Party told the Berlingske daily.
“It’s a matter of trying to jump over the fence where it is lowest. If you can do it without any consequences, then it’s almost advisable not to make any effort,” Inger Støjberg said.
By her own admission, she has a “clear feeling” that a “significant group” of refugees try to deceive the Danish state.
Støjberg cited a Facebook group that provides the answers to a so-called “module test” that all migrants have to go through as part of Danish education, as the most recent example of cheating. Overall, the test includes four parts — reading, writing, listening and oral examination. Mass fraud has been revealed in connection with the reading part, Støjberg pointed out.

Islamic State commanders fleeing Syria are conspiring with extremist groups in Africa to foment and infiltrate a new migration wave destined for Europe, the head of the UN World Food Programme has said.
David Beasley, a former Republican governor of South Carolina, said Europe needed to wake up to the extremists’ strategy in the Sahel region.

Urgent steps must be taken to save the life of a muslim boy who has been accused of blasphemy in Kano state in Northern Nigeria. Local sources said that the sharia enforcement agency in the state known as the Hisbah arrested the boy after he allegedly sang a song saying that a saint that belonged to one of the Islamic traditions was greater than Allah.
Sharia police officers charged him with blasphemy at a local sharia court, demanding the death penalty. The sharia court has heard the case. And the boy is currently held at a local prison awaiting judgment. An imam, accused of twice raping a teenager during spiritual healing, told a jury she had urged him to have sex with her – but he turned her down.
Komar Uddin (68), a dad of 11 and a grandad, said the young woman became annoyed at being spurned then threatened to expose him as an illegal immigrant.
He told Leicester Crown Court that he had been an imam at various English mosques, since 2006, and had successfully healed people in the community.
He said the woman’s father asked him to perform a ceremony at their Leicester home, because his daughter was concerned about evil spirits.
The father suggested a private ritual in her bedroom, he claimed, which went ahead with candles, incense, holy oil and prayers, in February 2015.

PUTRAJAYA: A Selangor woman born to a Muslim father but raised as a Buddhist by her Buddhist mother has lost her application at the Court of Appeal to be declared a non-Muslim.
This was the unanimous decision of the court, presided by Justice Umi Kalthum alongside Justices Vernon Ong Lam Kiat and Suraya Othman.
The woman – Rozliza Ibrahim – claimed she was born out of wedlock to a Muslim father and her late Buddhist mother. She claimed that they were never legally married wanted the court to declare her a non-Muslim.
In her lawsuit, Rosliza sought declarations that the Islamic laws of Selangor do not apply to her and that the Syariah Court has no jurisdiction over her.
Earlier, Rosliza’s counsel Aston Paiva said it was presumed she was born a Muslim based on an assumption that there was a valid marriage between her parents and her late mother converted to Islam.
He said she has been put in predicament by her parents and all she wanted was to get out of it.
Rosliza, 36, had named the Selangor government as the respondent in her appeal. The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) was the intervener.
“The Syariah Court can only give a declaration when the person is no longer a Muslim but it cannot make an order that the person is not a Muslim,” said Aston.

Several prisons have been discovered in Syria’s Douma where militants from the Jaysh al-Islam terrorist group held thousands of their inmates.
One of these jails is al-Tawba (Repentance). Local residents told Sputnik that those held there were those whom the terrorists believed still had a chance of being “corrected” by persuasion or torture.
The inmates were forced to attend “educational classes” and were taught the norms of Sharia law. Those who wished to join the terrorists’ ranks were moved to the al-Kahf jail for further indoctrination and military training.

Syrian army personnel and members of rival terrorist groups were held in the al-Batun jail, the most notorious of them all.
Many entered this jail, but few survived. The inmates were subjected to severe torture and many were executed.

The New York Times corrected a piece Monday that called the Palestinian Authority’s very real practice of giving payments to the families of terrorists a “far-right conspiracy.”
A Saturday Times profile of Campbell Brown, the head of news partnerships at Facebook, questioned whether the former journalist could help build better relations with media outlets, given allegations the social network spreads “fake news.”

The Dar al-Iftaa-affiliated Observatory of Islamophobia denounced a call by former director of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, Philippe Val, to delete verses from the Holy Quran, which in his view call for fighting the Jews and Christians. The Observatory described the call as “hateful racism”.
The Observatory said in a report on Tuesday that Val had claimed to have garnered 300 signatures in favor of the idea by well-known figures in France, most notably former President Nicolas Sarkozy, former Prime Minister Manuel Carlos Valls, and the famous singer Charles Aznavour.
The Observatory denounced “such dangerous calls launched by some from time to time, causing attacks and antagonism against Muslims there, and creating a conflict among the people [of France]”.

For the second time within a few days, a church in Chemnitz has been damaged by vandalism. Several panes of lead glass windows were thrown in on Monday evening at the St. Peter’s Church on Theaterplatz. The same man who had already invaded the church of St. Mark on the Sonnenberg at the weekend and also raged there is said to be responsible for the crime. He was arrested in church. The suspect is a 24-year-old asylum seeker from Pakistan.

LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- It’s a growing concern for border patrol as Laredo has become the number 1 crossing point for Bangladeshi nationals, a country that has known ties to terrorism.
In a KGNS news special report, our Noraida Negron rides along with Border Patrol to find out why these cases are on the rise.
There is one specific area where they are crossing in South Laredo.
Agents have consistently detained 11 Bangladeshis during separate events.
That puts Laredo sector at the top, when it comes to having the highest apprehensions of Bangladeshi nationals compared to other border patrol sectors.
In 2017 they apprehended close to 180 Bangladeshi nationals, and since October of last year, there have been over 160 individuals caught.

Suspected herdsmen yesterday attacked Ayar Mbalom community in Gwer-East Local Government Area of Benue State, killing 19 persons, including two priests of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi.
The Guardian learnt from some locals who pleaded anonymity that the militia herdsmen, who ransacked the entire village around 5:30 a.m., also set ablaze over 80 houses and destroyed foodstuff.
One of the sources said: “The killer herdsmen, unknown to us, ambushed our settlement. They shot sporadically at dawn, and slaughtered our people, including two Catholic parishioners who were in the church at St. Ignatius Quasi Parish in Ukpor-Mbalom for their 5:30 a.m. devotion.

UC Berkeley must face lawsuit alleging bias against conservative speakers
(Reuters) – A federal judge rejected the University of California at Berkeley’s bid to dismiss a lawsuit claiming it discriminated against conservative speakers like Ann Coulter by imposing unreasonable restrictions and fees on their appearances.
In a decision late Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney in San Francisco said two conservative groups could pursue claims that the school applied its policy for handling “major events” and an earlier policy for “high-profile speakers” in a manner that unfairly suppressed conservative speech.
But the judge also said she was “unpersuaded” by claims by the plaintiffs that the school engaged in intentional viewpoint discrimination, and that the major events policy was too vague. She said the plaintiffs could not seek punitive damages.
The Berkeley College Republicans and the Young America’s Foundation, a Tennessee group, had sued after the university canceled Coulter’s scheduled speech last April 27, citing security concerns.

800,000 people are about to flee New York and California because of taxes, say economists
Conservative economists Arthur Laffer and Stephen Moore are predicting a new mass exodus of wealth from New York and California because of the new tax law. But academics who have studied taxes and migration call the forecast “pure nonsense.”
In an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal headlined “So Long, California. Sayonara, New York,” Laffer and Moore (who have both advised President Donald Trump) say the new tax bill will cause a net 800,000 people to move out of California and New York over the next three years.
The tax changes limit the deduction of state and local taxes to $10,000, so many high-earning taxpayers in high-tax states will actually face a tax increase under the new tax code.

The country’s biggest seller of police body cameras on Thursday convened a corporate board devoted to the ethics and expansion of artificial intelligence, a major new step toward offering controversial facial-recognition technology to police forces nationwide.
Axon, the maker of Taser electroshock weapons and the wearable body cameras now used by most major American city police departments, has voiced interest in pursuing face recognition for its body-worn cameras. The technology could allow officers to scan and recognize the faces of potentially everyone they see while on patrol. A growing number of surveillance firms and tech start-ups are racing to integrate face recognition and other AI capabilities into real-time video.
The board’s first meeting will likely presage an imminent showdown over the rapidly developing technology. Shortly after the board was announced, a group of 30 civil rights, technology and privacy groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP, sent members a letter voicing “serious concerns with the current direction of Axon’s product development.”

Statue fever takes a new, even more ridiculous turn

The PC obsession with cleansing America of its “offensive” public art has claimed another victim. This time the victim if the residents of my hometown of Pittsburgh — or at least the sane ones.
They will be deprived of a tribute to native son Stephen Collins Foster, composer of “Oh! Susanna,” “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair,” “Beautiful Dreamer,” and other American song classics. A 117-year-old bronze casting of the songwriter was wrested from its pedestal in Schenley Park yesterday by crews with the Public Works Department, after the city’s Art Commission ruled last October that the statue gave offense.
So what was Foster’s crime? Was it that he drew inspiration from minstrel tunes and what used to called “Negro spirituals”? No. It is actually the sculptor who was fault. He included at Foster’s feet what appears to be a black balladeer, singing and strumming a banjo. I say appears to be because that’s what I see. The Art Commission sees a slave.

Taxpayer-funded study that predicts global warming will make islands ‘uninhabitable’ has to misinterpret Pentagon data to do it
A new U.S. Geological Survey study claims most low-lying Pacific atolls will become “uninhabitable by the mid-21st century” because of man-made global warming.
The taxpayer-funded study predicts wave-induced flooding made worse by sea level rise will overwhelm low-lying Pacific atolls, but researchers only get these alarming results by misinterpreting work done by the U.S. Defense Department.
The study claims that on the “basis of current greenhouse gas emission rates, the nonlinear interactions between sea-level rise and wave dynamics over reefs will lead to the annual wave-driven overwash of most atoll islands by the mid-21st century,” which is much earlier than most other estimates.
“The tipping point when potable groundwater on the majority of atoll islands will be unavailable is projected to be reached no later than the middle of the 21st century,” Curt Storlazzi, a USGS geologist and the study’s lead author, said in a statement.
Researchers specifically looked at Roi-Namur in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and found the island’s potable water will become too inundated with sea water “within the lifespan of current residents and before 2030” based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s worst-case scenario.

Joy Reid’s story — that her blog was hacked and filled with anti-gay smears — is full of holes

MSNBC host Joy Reid has called in the FBI to investigate her claim that hackers placed anti-gay remarks and jokes on her now-defunct blog between 2005 and 2007. But an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation and a cyber security expert raises serious doubts on the veracity of her claims.
On April 19, left-wing Twitter user @Jamie_Maz published archived posts of Reid’s old blog, The Reid Report, showing her accusing prominent political figures of being gay, saying she was repulsed by the thought of sex between two gay men, and describing herself as “probably” homophobic.
The posts were similar in substance to homophobic posts that Reid admitted to writing about former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. Reid apologized to Crist on Dec. 3 for the “insensitive” posts that referred to Crist as “Miss Charlie” and accused him of being gay.
After Mediaite asked Reid about the most recent posts, the MSNBC host released a statement Monday indicating that unknown, anonymous hackers had fabricated the anti-gay posts.
NBC has not yet taken a position on the controversy.

“Russia’s envoy to the OPCW said it was crucial to avoid new false-flag attacks in Syria and that Moscow “won’t allow” US military action there, as he described details of Russian findings on the site of the alleged Douma incident.
New false-flag operations against Damascus are “possible, since our American partners are once again threatening to take military action against Syria, but we will not allow that,” Russia’s permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Aleksandr Shulgin, said during a press conference in The Hague on Thursday.
The meeting was called by Russia’s OPCW mission and featured witnesses of the April 7 alleged chemical incident in the city of Douma. It highlighted the findings of Russian military experts, who were among the first to reach the site of the purported attack and locate the “munitions” that supposedly hit the residential buildings.
“Russian experts performed a detailed analysis of the information on the ground,” Major-General Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection (RKhBZ) Troops, said. “Two gas cylinders, allegedly dropped by the government forces from helicopters, were found in two apartments.”
The cylinders and the damage they supposedly caused did not fit the tale of an airstrike entirely, Kirillov said. One of the cylinders lacked any makeshift upgrades, such as fins, to make it usable as an aerial munition, and, surprisingly, it was not even deformed.
“An empty gas cylinder found at the top floor. The apartment was partially destroyed earlier by an aerial bomb explosion, parts of roof and outer wall were missing,” Kirillov stated. “Other walls were sprayed with shrapnel. It’s quite peculiar that the cylinder was not deformed, which doesn’t fit its purported fall from a big altitude on concrete floor.”
The other cylinder, while fitted with some crude fins, also remained in nearly pristine condition despite its “fall.” The device miraculously did little to no damage to the room it supposedly hit, besides a large hole in the ceiling, which, however, was unlikely made by the object, according to military specialists.
“The cylinder has partially retained impermeability and is almost undamaged, which is impossible after a fall from some 2,000 meters, the usual altitude used by the Syrian army helicopters,” Kirillov said. “A tail part of an unguided rocket has been uncovered on the roof near the gap in the ceiling. The munition was likely to make the hole, but we cannot rule out an artificial nature of the damage made to the roof, since we discovered a pinch bar at the stairwell of the building.”
The cylinder was likely hauled by the “authors of the staged video” from outside, the official stated, as “multiple chips and dragging marks at the stairwell” indicated. An apartment below was being used by its owner to breed chickens, and all the livestock miraculously “made through the so-called chemical attack alive,” according to Kirillov.
“Moreover, the RKhBZ troops have uncovered a booby-trapped chemical laboratory and chemical stockpile in the city of Douma, which was liberated from the militants. They’ve been presumably used by the terrorists to manufacture toxic substances,” the official said, adding that a chlorine-filled canister that was very similar to the purported munitions used during the Douma incident was recovered from the militant-run warehouse. OPCW-controlled substances, which can be used to produce mustard gas, have been also found there.
The Douma incident was featured in videos released by the controversial White Helmets group and spread through militant-linked social media accounts. It was seemingly taken at face value by the US and its allies, who promptly pinned the blame on Damascus and launched a massive missile strike on the country in “retaliation” on April 14. The attack came hours before the OPCW experts were set to embark on their fact-finding mission in Douma.
The experts have already visited the site of the purported incident. Shulgin, meanwhile, called on the OPCW to visit the chemical laboratories left behind by the militants to see for themselves who is actually behind the use of chemical arms in Syria.
“We urge the OPCW technical secretariat and experts to make use of their time in Syria and examine the undercover underground chemical laboratories of the militants, the terrorists, who used them, as we believe, to produce chemical munitions, including those used for all kinds of false flag attacks,” Shulgin stressed.”
