  5. Ban Immigration-Critical Parties to Stop Genocide, Sweden Told (breitbart, Apr 18, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/19/ban-immigration-critical-parties-stop-genocide-sweden-told/

“Sweden has been told to ban parties calling for tighter immigration controls following a Council of Europe report urging the nation to criminalise support for “racist” groups.

“Normalising the Sweden Democrats (SD) and their racist and sexist policies is unacceptable,” said MEP Soraya Post, claiming the party presents a “major threat to our democracy and human rights” in Sweden due to having policies which “exclude minorities”.

Though polls show it has the backing of almost a quarter of over-55s and a fifth of young people, the anti-mass migration party should be prohibited for “racism”, “sexism”, and “excluding minorities”, according to the left wing politician. She also demanded a ban on Alternative for Sweden — a party recently launched by former senior SD figure Gustav Kasselstrand.

“These organisations are not acceptable in a democratic society where everyone can feel safe and entitled to participate,” Post insists. Writing in ETC magazine, she asserts that Swedes have a responsibility to shape the nation into one in which “diversity in all its forms is valued and promoted”.

“We must not forget that hatred goes hand in hand with genocide, so we must not allow it to dominate Sweden and Europe,” the Feminist Initiative (FI) figure said, before approvingly citing Justice Minister Morgan Johansson.

“We have freedom of opinion. But Nazism is not an opinion, it is a crime against humanity,” she quotes the Social Democrat politician, who made the argument earlier this year during an interview in which he demanded Youtube do more to remove “extreme” content.

Previously, Breitbart London reported how Johansson cited “freedom of speech” as to why he rejected a police chief’s call for Sweden to expel Islamic State-supporting migrants after an Islamist terror attack was carried out in Stockholm by an illegal alien that claimed five lives.

Post — whose party calls for “open borders”, sanctions on EU nations which refuse to implement far-left social policies, and “replac[ing] racists with feminists” — said her call for a ban on parties advocating stricter immigration controls has backing from Europe.

In the piece, she points to the recently published fifth report on Sweden by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), which urged the Scandinavian country do even more to crack down on individuals and organisations which express any negativity towards women or minority groups.

“ECRI notes something that is very important”, Post said, before highlighting a section of the document which chided Sweden for failing to criminalise “public denial, trivialisation, justification of or excusing racism” when the country brought in laws in 2014 establishing criminal liability for genocide.

“As a feminist and human rights activist, I will not just stand by as racial hatred and xenophobic propaganda is on the rise in our society,” said Post. “Raising our voices is not just the right thing to do, it is our shared responsibility.””

  6. ‘The More, the Better’: Australia Ready to Welcome South African Farmers (breitbart, Apr 19, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/04/19/the-more-the-better-australia-ready-to-welcome-south-african-farmers/

“Australia is laying the legislative groundwork necessary to welcome persecuted South African farmers who face a targeted campaign of violence at home, the country’s top legal officer said.

Attorney-General Christian Porter pledged Wednesday to help at-risk farmers applying for visas, telling the Australian newspaper “the more South Africans in our local community the better.”

Mr Porter’s own Perth electorate of Pearce had more than 5000 South African-born residents at the last census, which recorded 2656 Afrikaans speakers living in the seat. Now he wants to welcome more.

“More than any other place in Australia, South Africans have made their home in the north coast of WA, in my electorate. They are hardworking and make a huge contribution to our local community,” Mr. Porter said.

He said over the past five years his office had helped a steady stream of South Africans with immigration issues.

Mr. Porter’s remarks follow those of Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton who wants to relax visa rules and accept 10,000 white South African farmers who are facing discrimination and violence…”

“This year’s Young People’s Laureate for London Momtaza Mehri has attacked Britain in her writings for its alleged “unbridled Islamophobia” and “established racism”.

The Somali-heritage 24-year-old is described by Media Diversified as being interested in “capitalism and colonialism” and “decontextualizing knowledge production” to explore “how it informs race, gender and nation theory”.

In her essay, “Black, British & Muslim; We’re not just a ‘Complication’” in 2015, Ms. Mehri writes that, “We [British Black Muslims] navigate a precipice few would want to tiptoe in 21st century Britain: the two-pronged realities of unbridled Islamophobia and established racism.”

Condemning the 16th-century monarch Queen Elizabeth I for writing of the “need to control the number of ‘blackmoores’” in the country, she goes on to describe the alleged reality of English major cities in the 1500s as substantially “multi-ethnic and certainly multi-faith”, with notable African populations.

The poet also attacked the Office for National Statistics for failing to have a distinct classification for Black Muslims in what she interprets as “Black Muslim erasure”, lamenting that the Muslim label is dominated by “Asians”…”

It was while living in Cardiff, Wales, that she became ill and received treatment and a kidney transplant on the NHS at University Hospital Wales in October 2016, costing the hospital a total of £72,469.

As an Albanian citizen, she would have been placed on dialysis, stabilised, and returned to Albania — but, posing as an EU citizen, she gained access to Wales’s organ waiting list, depriving a British person of the life-saving operation…”

  9. Germany: Keep ‘Door Open’ to Turkey Joining European Union (breitbart, Apr 18, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/18/germany-keep-door-open-turkey-joining-european-union/

“The European Union (EU) should keep the door open for Turkey and its Islamist leader to join the bloc, Germany’s EU minister has insisted.

The nation first applied to join the open-borders club back in 1987, and its bid is been supported by current Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, who said last year that Turkey should “move closer to Europe rather than moving away from us”.

If Turkey joined, it would be the second largest member state by population, giving it significant voting power, and meaning the free-movement bloc has borders with war-torn Syria.

Calls for Turkey’s accession to be halted have grown as President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an moves to Islamise the once secular nation and crush political opposition and the free press.

Nevertheless, Michael Roth, Germany’s minister for the EU, seems undeterred, telling a meeting of EU ministers in Luxembourg: “It is in the hands of those responsible in Turkey to decide whether they want to be a member of this European community of values.”

He added: “I would suggest we do not slam the door shut. That would be a wrong signal towards those in Turkey who still long for European values.”…”

  11. Emmanuel Macron ‘pushing for federal EUROPEAN EMPIRE’ declares UK academic in SHOCK claim (express, Apr 19, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/948225/Brexit-News-Emmanuel-Macron-EU-European-Union-politics-news

“EMMANUEL Macron is pushing for a “European empire” in his ideological pursuit of a unified, monetised European Union but his pursuit will cause the trade bloc to break apart, according to an academic in shocking claims.

The French President boldly claimed the European Union is a haven from the dangers of the world and even claimed France was willing to contribute more to the bloc as the UK leaves, but if the union reforms in a suitable way to Paris.

But Doctor Russell Foster from the Department of European & International Studies at King’s College London, believes Europe is in the “eye of the storm” and everything could soon fall apart – especially due to Macron’s vision of Europe.

He said: “Europe needs enormous reforms or it’s going to break apart.

“We are currently in the eye of the storm, so Europe at the moment looks relatively peaceful, especially in the aftermath of the Eurozone crisis, the migration crisis, the situation in Ukraine.

“These things haven’t gone away, it can go to one of two directions – it can go backwards towards the EEC or it can go forwards to some sort of the European federal empire.

“Macron is pushing for one of those, the rest of Europe is pushing to go back.”

But the professor said these things are not the only problem with the bloc and it could only be a matter of time before smaller countries choose to leave, as well as the UK.

The professor added: “It’s clear that the European Union can’t function the way it is.

“The second most powerful economy has voted to leave, there’s still the possibility that Mediterranean countries like Greece, Italy and Spain, which have been hearted by migration and austerities, that they might question their membership and it’s also very clear that Europe is splitting into regions, so the Scandinavian bloc is forming.

“Now that we are going, those smaller countries are concerned that they are going to be steamrolled by President Macron and his very clear agenda of deeper European integration.”

Dr Foster warned Macron has an agenda to federalise and centralise the bloc, which will make it more undemocratic as it will give more power to technocrats in Brussels.

He added: “A new block is forming of smaller countries, it’s now being led by the Dutch under Prime Minister Mark Rutte, and they are very concerned about what they see as an undemocratic agenda from Macron who honestly believes that the best way to preserve Europe is to centralise even more power.

“On a technical note that does seem a good idea for Europe to function and to prosper in the 21st century it would need to have more centralised power.

“But, as I’ve seen in the last couple of years, European populations are very hostile to the idea of surrendering even more power to what they perhaps quite rightly see as undemocratic and unelected technocrats in Brussels.

“With the British leaving and with Macron now the dominant political force in Europe, he is trying to push the great integration, but the more he pushes the more that other European countries are pushing back against him.”

The Professor said Macron cares about Europe, but it is the “ham-fisted way” the President is attempting the federalisation of Europe which is the problem.

He concluded: “He does want Europe to survive and he does want Europe to prosper, but he seems to be going about in, if you want, a rather ham-fisted way, ignoring the concerns of smaller European countries in order to promote his particular vision of reform.””

“The first delivery of Iranian crude oil to Russia under the oil-for-goods program has been completed and the sides aim to extend the deal for five years, according to Russian Energy Ministry Aleksandr Novak.

“The agreement is effective; it has been extended for the year, but in general, we think it should be extended for five years,” he said.

The oil-for-goods deal was initially reached in 2014 when Iran was under Western sanctions over its nuclear program. Last year, Moscow and Tehran ratified the agreement, under which Russia would initially buy 100,000 barrels a day from Iran and sell the country $45 billion worth of goods…”

  13. Emails reveal White Helmets tried to lobby ex-Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters (RT, Apr 19, 2018)
    https://www.rt.com/news/424553-pink-floyd-white-helmets-blumenthal/

“Emails have emerged revealing how the controversial Syrian activist group the White Helmets tried to lobby Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters with Saudi money. The revelations have been published on Max Blumenthal’s project.

In an email from October 2016, Roger Waters is invited to a fundraiser organized by Saudi billionaire Hani Farsi to honor the work of the White helmets. In it, he is also encouraged to watch a documentary about the group.

And it didn’t stop there – just days before his recent concert in Barcelona, Waters was contacted by a French journalist working for the White Helmets. The reporter asked Waters for a few moments on stage to deliver a message to the children of Syria.

Rogers did not respond to either email, according to journalist Max Blumenthal, who obtained the messages. Instead of giving the stage to the White Helmets during his Barcelona concert, Waters denounced the organization.

“The White Helmets is a fake organization that exists only to create propaganda for jihadists and terrorists. That’s my belief. We have opposing beliefs,” he said. “If we were to listen to the propaganda of the White Helmets and others, we would be encouraged to encourage our governments to start dropping bombs on people in Syria. This would be a mistake of monumental proportions for us as human beings,” he added.

Blumenthal told RT that the White Helmets “are operating on the ground alongside Al-Qaeda and their allies, and these are just documented facts. For the first time, a mainstream figure on an international stage on the eve of war has validated what we’ve been reporting and he did so in Barcelona to loud cheers from the audience that was opposed to a war waged against international law, without the approval of the parliaments of the governments that launched the war…”

A bipartisan group of senators sent a letter to Homeland Security asking for details about the cellular activity. The surveillance activity is akin to so-called stingrays that are used by law enforcement agencies to trick suspects’ cellphones into revealing their locations, according to Reuters.

  20. Comey’s big secret about the Hillary email case: A tale of two different stories
    By J.E. Dyer April 18, 2018

The Wall Street Journal’s Holman Jenkins cued me to this in his Wednesday op-ed “The Comey Coverup.” In the editorial, Jenkins takes apart James Comey’s citation in his new book of a “development still unknown to the American public to this day” – a development which, as Jenkins puts it, was “central to his [Comey’s] decision to intervene publicly in the Hillary Clinton email case.”

The development in question was the receipt by the FBI, reportedly in March 2016, of “Russian intelligence,” which indicated someone from the Hillary Clinton campaign had confirmed with Loretta Lynch that Lynch would not let the probe of Hillary’s email server go too far.

Comey’s implication about this has been that the suggestion of impropriety in the Justice Department was what drove him to make his own public announcement, in July 2016, that Hillary would not be charged with anything.

Jenkins points out with some acerbity that this is hardly a secret, considering it was all over the news for several days – what Jenkins calls “a few days of furious reporting” – in 2017. He refers here to the days after the Washington Post published a story about it on 24 May 2017. The story, by Karoun Demirjian and Devlin Barrett, is the canonical source usually referred to.

I believe Jenkins asks all the right questions about this episode, and I commend his editorial to you.

    • Things are getting interesting in the stories about the FBI investigation into the Clinton email server and the missing emails. The Washington Post and the New York Times are printing conflicting stories. The question is which if either is true, according to one story the FBI got a copy of an email from Wassermann Schultz to another Democrat about a conversation with Loretta Lynch during which Lynch assured Schultz that she wouldn’t let the investigation go too far.

The other story is that the FBI got a Russian summery of the email pretty much saying what the other story says.

Two important points, 1) all of the people mentioned in the stories deny what is said in both stories adn 2) they are innocent until proven guilty. Although a lot of other evidence says there is a lot fo guilt to go around.

  21. Fourth night of incidents in Toulouse: about fifteen cars burned, two arrests

Wednesday night was marked by new incidents in some quarters of Toulouse, for the fourth night in a row, which, according to a police source, amounted to about fifteen burned cars and two arrests. On the other hand, there were fewer clashes with the police.
    …………………………
The day before, the night had been a little quieter but about twenty vehicles had still been burned, mainly in the parking lot of a car dealership, located near the district of Mirail. Five people were arrested and detained. Monday was 18 people who had been arrested and more than 25 vehicles burned during a very eventful evening

We still do not know the real reason for this outbreak of violence in Toulouse: the suicide of a prisoner in Seysses prison, the arrest on Sunday of a woman wearing a niqab or police blows to the various traffics drug store in the Mirail district. Or maybe a little bit of all this

By Ben Bowles April 19, 2018

After his phenomenal success at boycotting Fox News Channel host Laura Ingraham off the air by targeting her sponsors — her viewership has since spiked by 20% — boy wonder David Hogg has turned his attention to two investment firms: BlackRock and The Vanguard Group.

His reason for boycotting these two companies? They are, in his words, “two of the biggest investors in gun manufacturers.”

“When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen” read the tagline from an for the brokerage firm that was popular in the 1970s and ’80s. But will people accord the same respect to an 18-year-old whose credentials as a financial adviser are having survived a school shooting?

By LU Staff April 19, 2018

FAISALABAD, Pakistan – The father of Imran Awan — an IT aide to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz who investigators concluded made “unauthorized access” to House servers — transferred a USB drive to a Pakistani senator and former head of a Pakistani intelligence agency, the father’s ex-business partner, Rashid Minhas, alleged.

Minhas told The Daily Caller News Foundation that Imran Awan’s father, Haji Ashraf Awan, was giving data to Pakistani official Rehman Malik, and that Imran bragged he had the power to “change the U.S. president.”

Asked for how he knew this, he said that on one occasion in 2008 when a “USB [was] given to Rehman Malik by Imran’s father, my brother Abdul Razzaq was with his father.”

“After Imran’s father deliver (sic) USB to Rehman Malik, four Pakistani [government intelligence] agents were with his father 24-hour on duty to protect him,” he said. Minhas did not say what was on the USB.

Goodlatte, House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., had set a Monday deadline for the Justice Department to turn over the Comey memos.

In February, federal Judge James E. Boasberg ruled that Comey’s memos would not be made public, as they were “likely to interfere with special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into the 2016 presidential race.”

In an interview with CNN Thursday, Comey said it was “fine by me” if Congress and the public sees the memos.

“I don’t care. I don’t have any views on it. I’m totally fine with transparency,” Comey said. “I’ve tried to be transparent throughout this, and I think what folks will see if they get to see the memos is I’ve been consistent since the very beginning, right after my encounters with President Trump.”

Comey said during congressional testimony in June 2017 that he had given his friend, Columbia University Professor Daniel Richman, a memo about discussions with Trump, in order to have his notes leaked to The New York Times – thinking it may have spurred the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Fox News has reported that Comey penned seven memos to memorialize conversations with Trump, with four of the memos marked classified at the “Secret” or “Confidential” levels, according to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who viewed the memos with his staff in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) at the FBI and the Senate because the FBI deemed the “majority of the memos” to be “classified.”

Comey told CNN that he had written “somewhere between five and ten” memos of his conversations with Trump, before adding that “there may be seven, there may be eight, I don’t remember.”

The former FBI Director also confirmed that some of the memos were classified “when I created them,” but he was not sure how many fit that description.

Grassley, in January, pressed Rosenstein over whether the memo Comey shared with Richman contained classified information.

“According to press reports, Professor Daniel Richman of Columbia Law School stated that Mr. Comey provided him four of the seven memoranda and encouraged him to ‘detail [Comey’s] memos to the press,'” Grassley wrote.

“If it’s true that Professor Richman had four of the seven memos, then in light of the fact that four of the seven memos the Committee reviewed are classified, it would appear that at least one memo the former FBI director gave Professor Richman contained classified information,” the letter continued.

The release of the memos came in the midst of Comey’s media blitz to promote his new book, “A Higher Loyalty,” which was released this week. Comey has appeared on multiple networks for high-profile interviews and media appearances, where he has discussed the book and slammed former Obama administration colleagues, including former President Barack Obama.

Also this week, nearly a dozen House Republicans sent a criminal referral to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, FBI Director Christopher Wray and U.S. Attorney John Huber for Comey, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and other Justice Department officials over their handling of the Clinton email probe and the early stages of the investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign associates in the 2016 presidential election.

Comey said he learned of that criminal referral in an appearance on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday.

“The accusations are not true,” Comey said. “Let’s let the institution do its work.”

  27. Russia: FSB detains suspected militants in Saint Petersburg

Two 21-year-old men from central Asia have been detained in Saint Petersburg by Russia’s FSB on suspicion of attempting to join a militant organisation, as shown in footage released on Thursday.

Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR) forces raided the flat ordering suspects to put their hands behind their heads and lie down, while the forces were searching the premises.

According to the Russian Investigative Committee, a recruiter for an international militant organisation had been communicating with the men since December 2017.

He allegedly informed the men of how to travel to the Middle East from Russia unnoticed by the authorities and offered assistance in entering a militant training camp.

The suspects bought plane tickets out of Russia on 10 April. The investigation continues.

  28. WATCH Syrian Boy in White Helmets FAKE Chemical Attack Video Reveals Truth (sputniknews, Apr 19, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201804181063698154-syrian-boy-reveals-truth-helmets/

“Earlier the White Helmets, a Western-backed NGO known for its ties with terrorist groups, released a video showing alleged victims of the false-flag chemical attack in Douma. The US and its allies used the video as a pre-text to conduct a missile strike on Syria.

The Russia 24 TV channel released an exclusive interview on April 18 with a boy, who participated in filming a fake video, as evidence of the false-flag chemical attack in Douma by the White Helmets. In the interview, Hassan Diab says that he and his mother heard loud voices on the street, urging everyone to rush to the hospitals. When Hassan entered the hospital, unknown people grabbed him, poured water on him and then put him with other patients.

“We were in the basement. Mom told me that today we don’t have anything to eat and that we will eat tomorrow. We heard a cry outside, calling “go to the hospital.” We ran to the hospital and as soon as I entered, they grabbed me and started pouring water on me,” Hassan Diab said.

His father continued the story. He was at his work when he heard that his son was in hospital. He rushed to the hospital and found his family there in good health. He added that he was on the street, smoking and didn’t feel any chemical weapon. According to him, it turned out militants gave all the participants food — dates, cookies and rice — and then released them.

“There were no chemical weapons. I smoked outside and felt nothing. I entered the hospital and saw my family. Militants gave them dates, cookies and rice for participating in this film and released everyone to their homes,” Hassan’s father said.

The TV channel also broadcast an interview with a doctor who was in the hospital when the White Helmets filmed their fake video. He said that no patients with signs of chemical weapons-related injuries arrived that day, but there were many people with respiratory problems due to smoke and dust from the recent bombing. All doctors were busy taking care of them and didn’t have time to react to the White Helmets’ film crew.

The White Helmets is a Syrian NGO, financed by several Western countries, which is associated with staging and filming false-flag chemical attacks. They have been seen several times working with terrorist groups in Syria…”

  29. Refugees Illegally Sell Their European IDs Online – Reports (sputniknews, Apr 19, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201804191063725101-refugees-illegally-sell-their-european-ids/

“Local authorities have drawn attention to the fact that ID sales on Internet are on the rise. There is a suspicion that passports are traded by migrants who have received asylum status in the European countries.

Travel documents, IDs, health insurance cards and other documents are sold on trading platforms and on social networks like Facebook, the German magazine Spiegel and newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote, referring to a secret report by the federal police.

These are presumed to be documents legally issued to migrants who have been granted asylum status in EU countries, primarily from Syria, reports say.

    Boom in Illegal ID Trade

According to media outlets, Germany’s Ministry of Interior has registered a growing number of cases of individuals entering the country with documents that had previously been issued to other people.

In 2016, local authorities registered 460 such incidents, in 2017 this figure rose to 554.

Some IDs are said to have been issued in Germany, the rest — in other countries, like Italy and France.

Greece — Epicenter of Illegal ID Sales

The illegal trade of documents has mostly been spread in Greece due to the fact that the country has been the main transit destination for migrants — both, arriving in the EU and leaving it, according to police reports.

Syrian refugees, who have no prospects in the EU and therefore decided to return to their families, use Greece as a gateway to Turkey, which is the number one non-EU transit country on their way back to Syria.

    Situation in Turkey

At the same time, Turkish authorities are reluctant to allow the Syrians who have received asylum status in Germany, to enter its territory, reports say.

Therefore, smugglers recommend migrants sell their documents, “killing two birds with one stone”: on the one hand, one can hide his or her true identity, and on the other, make good money.

    Terrorist Threat

The figures released are not dramatic yet. But German authorities are concerned that terrorist suspects can enter the country’s territory using forged documents.

Security concerns have primarily been triggered by the growing number of radical Islamists residing on German soil and a significant increase in crimes associated with migrants.

While in 2013 it was reported that about 5,500 radical Islamists were living in Germany, by the first quarter of this year, this number had grown to 11,000.”

  30. BREITBART – Soros in Retreat: Billionaire’s University to Move from Budapest to Vienna

After a sustained campaign against the influence of left-wing billionaire George Soros by the Hungarian government, Soros’s Central European University has announced its plans to move from Budapest to Vienna.
The Central European University (CEU) has come under fire from the Hungarian government which had previously claimed it was unfair that the institution was allowed to give out both Hungarian and U.S. diplomas while not operating a campus in the USA.

Now, the university has announced that it has plans to leave Budapest and move to neighbouring Austria where a new campus will be set up, Swedish radio broadcaster Sveriges Radio reports.

Éva Fodor, Deputy Rector at CEU said that the university had already signed an agreement with a landlord in Vienna but some were still hopeful the university would not have to move as the administration had set up a branch in New York state, as requested by the Hungarian government.

Hungary has yet to approve the move by the CEU according to Fodor who said: “If the government still has not signed this agreement in mid-June, then we will start planning to move the entire university to Vienna.”

“It’s hard to recruit new staff when we can not even tell where their workplace will be,” Fodor added.

At a press conference earlier this week, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said the government had yet to make a final decision on the fate of the university.

The planned move comes just after Mr. Orbán and his Fidesz party won a massive two-thirds majority in the Hungarian parliament allowing them to put forward constitutional changes.

A major pillar of the Fidesz election campaign was directed at the influence of foreign NGOs, many of which are part of the network of Soros and his Open Society Foundations.

Prime Minister Orbán has denounced Soros’s influence on the migration policies of the European Union claiming that the “Soros Plan” would see millions of migrants enter Europe.

“The Soros network has an extensive sphere of influence within the European Parliament and other EU bodies,” Mr. Orbán said last October and added: “Its aim is to build a Europe of mixed population and to condemn the Hungarian government for opposing their view on migration.”

    • zero hedge – Soros’ Open Society Foundation Closing Budapest Office, Moving To Berlin

Less than a month after his former protege (now his arch-nemesis) Viktor Orban led his nationalist Fidesz party to an overwhelming victory in Hungary’s federal election in March, billionaire investor George Soros – who has become a persona non-grata in his native Hungary – has lost another round in its ongoing confrontation with the ruling government, and is closing the offices of his Open Society Foundation in Budapest.

Patrick Gaspard, the head of Open Society, announced the closure in an article by Austria’s Die Presse.

Soros, who recently donated the bulk of his eleven-figure fortune to Open Society – an international chain of liberal nonprofits dedicated to pushing Soros’ pro-immigration, pro-globalization political agenda under the guise of altruism – has been openly feuding with Orban for more than a year, ever since he criticized the Hungarian leader for purportedly running a “mafia state” during a speech in the UK.

And as we anticipated following Orban’s sweeping electoral triumph, life for Soros proxies in Hungary has now become “unbearable”. Fidesz has been pushing a bill, informally known as the “Stop Soros Act”, designed to weaken Soros’s influence in Hungary. Along with the Soros bill, the country’s Parliament is weighing a suite of proposed constitutional amendments that would weaken Hungary’s courts while allowing Orban to consolidate power.

Observers expect the amendments will soon become law now that Fidesz has been reelected with the two-thirds parliamentary majority required to remake the country’s constitution.

Orban has blamed Soros for a host of ills and pushed through legislation cracking down on non-governmental organizations called the “Stop Soros” laws which drew international criticism. More details:

According to Austria’s Die Presse, Patrick Gaspard, the head of the Open Society Foundation (OSF), that was founded by US billionaire George Soros, announced the closure of the office in the Hungarian capital on Thursday.

Budapest accused Soros of hiring some 2,000 people to meddle in the parliamentary elections. The ruling Fidesz party and its coalition partner are attempting to ban his groups, such as the pro-immigration Open Society Foundation, from the country.

The so-called “Stop Soros Act” is yet to be passed by parliament, but PM Orbán is hopeful the bill will limit Soros’ influence in the country’s internal affairs.

After the election, Hungary’s re-elected PM tightened the screws on Soros, and Brussles: speaking during a press conference in Budapest last week, Orban said “the Hungarian voters have designated the most important topics: immigration and the topic of national security. Hungarians have decided they want to be the only ones who will decide who can live in Hungary.”

Orbán also made it clear that far from stepping back from the ruthless campaign rhetoric, he would stay true to it, including by going ahead with controversial bills described by his government as the “Stop Soros” package.

In addition to his conflict with Soros, Orban has also been feuding with the European Union and German Chancellor Angela Merkel over his strict anti-immigration position. The EU has opened a case against Hungary for its refusal to participate in the migrant-redistribution scheme. Orban, who has openly bragged about building an “illiberal” Democracy, has effectively proven Merkel wrong.

Whereas much of Europe stressed under daily reports of altercations involving Muslim immigrants who arreived as a result of Angela Merkel’s “Open Door” policy, Hungary has benefited from lower crime rates and lower incidences of terrorism than other EU member states. The country has attributed its lower crime rate on its aggressive anti-immigration policices: In 2015, Hungary built barriers along the Hungary-Serbia and Hungary-Croatia borders to stop migrants from entering the country on their way to EU members states with more generous benefits.

So, for those keeping track at home, the score is now Orban – 2, Soros – 0, but don’t cry for the Open Society loss: after the closure, the foundation will still have more than 40 offices around the world.

  31. TORONTO –Arrest made in series of ‘random and unprovoked’ assaults on women in downtown core: police

A 24-year-old man has been arrested following a series of “random and unprovoked” attacks in broad daylight on women in and near Toronto’s gay village, police say.

The suspect is accused of assaulting five women over a span of four days earlier this month.

The first attack took place in the Yonge and Wellesley streets area at around 8:10 a.m. on April 12.

Police allege that the suspect threw a rock at two women, minutes apart, striking each of them in the back.

The second incident occurred one day later on April 13 near Yonge and Dundas streets.

Police say the same suspect approached a third woman at around 1:10 p.m. and proceeded to kick her in the back of her head.

The woman sustained a concussion as a result.

The final two attacks occurred two days later on April 15.

Police allege that the same suspect approached a woman in the Church and Wood streets area at around 10:30 a.m. and kicked her in the back.

It is further alleged that the suspect then approached a woman in the Church and Carlton streets area minutes later and kicked her in the chest.

Ahmed Oumer, 24, of Toronto, was arrested on Wednesday morning and charged with two counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

Police say that their investigation remains ongoing.

  32. France: Clashes break out at protest against Macron’s labour reforms

Clashes broke out between riot police and protesters in Paris on Thursday afternoon, at a union-organised march against proposed labour reform from the government of French President Emmanuel Macron.

Police deployed water cannon and tear gas in an effort to restore order. Protesters responded by throwing home-made missiles and other projectiles at riot police.

Macron is seeking to implement sweeping changes to publicly-owned railway company SNCF, including ending its monopoly and changing contractual terms for employees.

Union leaders – including from the influential confederation CGT – are calling for a widening of the strike. The ultimate goal is a “convergence of struggles”, much like in 1968 or more recently in 1995.

  33. Germany: Macron and Merkel meet and greet in Berli

German Chancellor Angela Merkel greeted her French counterpart President Emmanuel Macron in Berlin on Thursday, ahead of talks on Eurozone reform amongst other bilateral issues.

The pair met outside the unfinished Humboldt Forum, built on the site of the Kaiser’s Palace.

Europe’s two heavyweights are expected to discuss options for a shared European budget and a single Eurozone budget as well as a common immigration policy.

Eurozone reform has dogged the newly-formed German government, as Merkel’s coalition partner, the Social Democrats, have rejected a number of the Chancellor’s proposals.

  34. Acclaimed Russian ballerinas denied entry into US

Amid roiling relations between the US and Russia, two members of Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet — including one of its prima ballerinas — have been refused visas to perform in New York City, Page Six has exclusively learned.

Organizers of a Lincoln Center gala where Olga Smirnova and Jacopo Tissi were due to dance on Monday believe the Department of Homeland Security’s decision may be motivated by the myriad tensions between the superpowers — and say that Smirnova is so revered in Moscow that her treatment could create a Russian backlash.

On Wednesday the department’s site read, “On April 10, 2018, we denied your… petition for a nonimmigrant worker.”

“I don’t understand it,” Linda K. Morse, chair of Youth America Grand Prix — which is hosting the gala — told Page Six. “One interpretation is that it’s political. That’s my knee-jerk reaction, but I can’t figure out why — other than that they’re Russian. But it doesn’t make any sense.”

The immigration service’s objection appears to be that the organizers applied for a visa usually granted to groups of entertainers, but since Smirnova and Tissi were planning to perform at the “Stars of Today Meets the Stars of Tomorrow” gala as individuals, rather than alongside the rest of the Bolshoi company, they’re not eligible for it.

But we’re told that YAGP has got the same visa for dancers — including Smirnova — in the past. Morse told us she “definitely” thinks the move could create political resentment in Russia. “Olga is considered the number one ballerina in the world right now,” said Morse, “and to refuse her visa is striking. It’s alarming.”

She added, “It’s worrying. If you just think through the history of ballet, even in the worst of the Cold War, members of the Bolshoi and at the time the Kirov [the St. Petersburg company renamed the Mariinsky Ballet after the fall of the USSR] came here.”

An immigration service spokesperson told us, “There have been no policy changes for adjudication of [this type of visa] applications based on an applicant’s country of origin.”

  35. Attacker in Berlin Skullcap Case Turns Himself In to Police

BERLIN — A 19-year-old Syrian asylum-seeker turned himself in to police Thursday after his violent attack on a man wearing a Jewish skullcap in Berlin caused outrage across Germany.

The young Syrian showed up with his lawyer at a police precinct, police spokesman Winfrid Wenzel said.

The 21-year-old victim, an Arab Israeli, caught Tuesday’s assault on video. It quickly went viral and reopened a debate about anti-Semitism in the country. Even Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the assault sharply.

The video shows the attacker whipping the Israeli with a belt while shouting “Yehudi!” or Jew, in Arabic.

The victim, Adam Armoush, said he’s not Jewish but wore the skullcap as an experiment because he didn’t believe a friend who told him it’s too dangerous to wear one in public in Germany.

Following the attack, Merkel vowed Wednesday that the government would respond “with full force and resolve” against anti-Semitism in Germany.

The incident comes at a time of increased fears of anti-Semitism and indications that attacks against Jews are on the rise.

The RIAS group that tracks discrimination of Jews said Berlin last year had 947 anti-Semitic incidents, including 18 attacks and 23 threats.

Several Jewish students have reported anti-Semitic bullying in schools in recent months and Israeli flags were burnt during a recent protest in Berlin.

Last week, a rap band that included lighthearted references to inmates of the Nazis’ Auschwitz death camp in its lyrics won the country’s most important music prize — drawing strong criticism from other artists and government officials.

The band’s record company, BMG, said Thursday it would donate 100,000 euros ($123,880) toward projects to fight anti-Semitism in schools, but added it believes in “artistic freedom, creativity and diversity.”

    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2018/04/19/1704561/eu-gave-asylum-to-more-than-half-a-million-refugees-in-2017-stats-office

“The European Union gave asylum to more than half a million refugees in 2017, its statistics office Eurostat said on Thursday, with Germany taking in more than 60 percent.

The number was still down by about a quarter compared with 2016, and followed a major surge of migration in 2015 which has strained the bloc’s asylum system and caused political wrangling over how to deal with the influx.

Syrian citizens accounted for about a third of successful asylum cases in 2017, Eurostat said, followed by Afghans and Iraqis, Reuters reported.

On a per capita basis, Germany had the most successful asylum cases in 2017, followed by Austria and Sweden. Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland had the fewest successful asylum cases in 2017 on a per capita basis.

Syrians and Eritreans were most likely to get asylum in the EU in 2017, with more than nine in 10 cases being approved, while migrants from Albania and Kosovo were the least likely.”
