This is pure revisionism. The only difference is that they’re not hanging fig leafs on statuary or tearing out pages from history books. This time, they’re going after art (ergo, the fig leaf reference). Delimiting artistic expression is a bedrock-level assault on freedom of expression and general creativity.

It is precisely because of idiocy like this that I have never advocated a ban on (c)rap “music”. I may detest the overall genre, but it still is (for the most part) Constitutionally protected speech. The words “most part” are used to disqualify “kill Whitey” and “off the pigs” themes which are flagrant violations of the law.

Regardless, this new attempt (remember Tipper Gore and her histrionics?) at curtailing Freedom of Speech needs to be strangled in the cradle.

  3. Cubans prepare to turn the page on Castro era

Havana (Cuba) (AFP) – Cuban President Raul Castro steps down Thursday, passing the baton to a new generation in a transition that brings to a close the Castro brothers’ six-decade grip on power.

“We have come a long way… so that our children, those of the present and those of the future, will be happy,” Castro said in one of his last speeches as leader last month.

Richard: Are they going to return the stolen land and businesses back to their owners?

    • Are they going to return the stolen land and businesses back to their owners?

Just as importantly, will Cuba be holding criminal and civil trials to prosecute those who participated in almost 60 years of oppression and human rights violations?

Identical to Soviet Russia, the Baltic States, and the Eastern Bloc in general, Communism finally implodes—usually only after the deaths of thousands or millions—and in the jubilation that follows, everyone seems to forget that there’s several dozen (or more) individuals who deserve immediate prosecution and punishment for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

If anyone requires a vivid example of what happens when a country fails to (or refuses to) perform such a “mopping up” action, just look at modern Russia.

All of the high ranking military brass that should have been made to answer for the gulags and torture of political dissidents merely slipped out of their military uniforms and into business suits without a backward glance. Putin may well be one of these individuals.

Just as the regular public does not seem to understand that the theft of wealth—be it through corruption or confiscation—is a way of slowly murdering someone, neither does it seem that ordinary people realize how critical it is to hold malefactors accountable for their heinous crimes. A weird symptom of this near-state-of-denial is all of the conspiracy theories that continue to swirl around the 9-11 Atrocity. It’s as if people would rather go on a wild goose chase than simply sift the evidence and make a decision.

I’m not sure what it will take to break this endless cycle of ignorance and willful blindness but this is the nuclear age and all penalties for such stupidity have increased astronomically since 1945. Not that anyone realizes that, either.

        • Nuremburg all over: too gutless to prosecute anyone unless a scapegoat Nazi. Like muslims , communists seem immune to prosecution for doing exactly the same things as did the Nazis. I read about 90 yo Nazis being chased while the UK ignores almost all muslim crimes.

  4. Canada pulls diplomats’ families from Cuba over mystery illness

Cuba will be designated an unaccompanied post, putting it on par with Iraq and Afghanistan in terms of risk for families.

Canada is removing diplomats’ family members from its Cuban embassy over a mystery illness – amid fears some could be suffering from a new type of “acquired brain injury”.

The embassy will now be designated an unaccompanied post, meaning diplomats will have to live there alone.

The post in Havana will now rank alongside those in Iraq and Afghanistan as being too dangerous for diplomats’ loved ones.

Canadian officials will also review the 15 roles at the embassy to see whether some staff can be brought home.

Ten Canadians, including children, have been affected by the illness, with symptoms including headaches, nose bleeds, loss of hearing, short-term memory loss, nausea and dizziness.

  5. Mysterious Gatherings of Nearly 1,400 Sharks Spotted Off Northeast Coast

Aerial photos have captured odd gatherings of almost 1,400 basking sharks and researchers aren’t totally sure what it is the animals are up to.

It’s not uncommon to see the sharks individually, but seeing them in large groups is rare. It’s still unclear why the animals are coming together, but researchers suggest they are likely gathering in the waters from Long Island to Nova Scotia to grab a bite, according to recent findings published in the Journal of Fish Biology.

  6. More than 95% of world’s population breathe dangerous air, major study finds

Poorest are hardest hit with many developing countries falling behind on cleaning up toxic air pollution

More than 95% of the world’s population breathe unsafe air and the burden is falling hardest on the poorest communities, with the gap between the most polluted and least polluted countries rising rapidly, a comprehensive study of global air pollution has found.

Cities are home to an increasing majority of the world’s people, exposing billions to unsafe air, particularly in developing countries, but in rural areas the risk of indoor air pollution is often caused by burning solid fuels. One in three people worldwide faces the double whammy of unsafe air both indoors and out.

The report by the Health Effects Institute used new findings such as satellite data and better monitoring to estimate the numbers of people exposed to air polluted above the levels deemed safe by the World Health Organisation. This exposure has made air pollution the fourth highest cause of death globally, after high blood pressure, diet and smoking, and the greatest environmental health risk.

    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/apr/17/more-than-95-of-worlds-population-breathe-dangerous-air-major-study-finds

    • What this article fails to mention is how often women are more severely impacted by poor air quality.

This happens because, as primary caregivers, women are typically responsible for food preparation. Frequently, this happens indoors, within a confined space. The fuel is almost always charcoal, which releases unhealthy micro-fine carbon particles but, far more importantly, carbon monoxide.

Just as often, infants or very young children are kept at their mother’s side during cooking times which results in them being exposed as well. The problem being that the lower body weight of their young frames causes these pollutants to have a much greater impact.

This is a problem that isn’t going away soon. Tools like solar ovens and stoves, biogas generators, or other sustainable energy technologies are part of the solution. However, so much of the world still operates using this antiquated, unhealthy, and unsustainable fuel source (i.e., charcoal) that the health issues related to are are not going away anytime soon.

      • I always find the CO2 story so fascinating as they totally ignore the fact that most of the world still use wood fires (some for supposed eco reasons…I boggle). I cannot walk at night due to the smoke pall that sits in our valley on still nights and damn near chokes me.

  7. WhatsApp drug dealer convicted using fingerprints taken from photo

Smartphone cameras are getting really good

Police in South Wales have arrested a drug dealer based on a WhatsApp message with a photograph of the dealer’s hand holding an assortment of pills, according to a report from the BBC.

Despite that the photo only offers a glimpse of a small part of the dealer’s fingerprints — which weren’t entirely useful in actually locating the dealer — forensic scientists were able to use those pieces to confirm that the identity of the suspect matched the person police officers had apprehended.

According to Dave Thomas, a representative of the South Wales Police’s scientific support unit, the 11 arrests made through the bust mark the first convictions in Wales based on fingerprints from a photo. It also speaks to the improvement in smartphone camera technology over the past few years, where seemingly innocuous pictures are now detailed enough to serve as forensic evidence when it comes to identifying people.

Everyone take a moment to consider how smart phones have helped to reduce street crime. When everybody around you is a potential witness (complete with video camera), the incentive to commit sundry petty or major crimes is markedly decreased.

Another important issue is that eye-witnesses are notoriously unreliable. When an eye witness is able to produce high resolution images of the crime in question, that bolsters their testimony immensely.

Finally, there is a curious inversion effect when this fabulous technology falls into the hands of the criminally inclined (or just plain stupid). They actually video themselves and their pals committing crimes and then post it on the Internet</strong.

As that Welsh drug dealer learned the hard way, stay out of the picture, if you don’t want to draw attention to yourself.

  8. China parades new ‘Guam Killer’ nuclear missile that can ‘reach US territory and destroy aircraft carriers’

The ‘Guam Killer’ nuclear missiles potentially pose a threat for more than 162,000 Micronesian people who call the island home

A new missile believed to be capable of hitting a US territory has been shown off by China in a grand military parade.

The warheads – thought to be capable of firing around 2,000 miles – could potentially take out large aircraft carriers and even hit the US territory of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.

The “Guam Killer” nuclear missiles could pose a threat for more than 162,000 Micronesian people who call the island home.

Although the Chinese government is not confirming which model of the missile it owns, reporters claimed they were DF-26, which can travel at supersonic speeds.

According to CCTV the country’s state broadcaster the missile has been designed, developed and built by Chinese engineers and was commissioned to the People’s Liberation Army’s Rocket Force.

    • China parades new ‘Guam Killer’ nuclear missile that can ‘reach US territory and destroy aircraft carriers’

These morons might want to tone down the rhetoric a little bit. Such inflammatory posturing may play well to the cheap seats at home, but all that’s really been accomplished is the initiation of another round-robin of threats and countermeasures. This has been the case all throughout modern military history.

One easily envisioned end result is that Guam will be endowed with interceptor batteries and phased array radar (if they don’t have both already). If both are currently present, then they will be upgraded. This is why Beijing needs to learn how to keep its big yap shut.

      • My informants tell me that a large number of missile defense systems (land and sea based) were sent to Guam during the Kim threats and have remained there because the threat hasn’t been removed. Looks like removing the Korean nukes won’t cause them to be pulled out.

  9. Macron warns of European ‘civil war’ over growing East-West divide

The European Union risks being torn apart by a “civil war” between its liberal and authoritarian democracies, Emmanuel Macron, the president of France has warned.

Speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Mr Macron said that the EU must “build a new European sovereignty” and embark on much needed reforms to save the bloc.

The ardent Europhile was given a standing ovation and numerous compliments by adoring MEPs during the plenary debate on the future of Europe after Brexit.

“We have a context of division and indeed doubt within Europe,” Mr Macron said. “There seems to be a sort of European civil war where selfish interests sometimes appear more important than what unites Europe.”

In a thinly veiled swipe at Hungary and Poland, Mr Macron said Europe was in the grips of “a fascination with the illiberal”.

  10. German authorities raid homes of suspected neo-Nazis

BERLIN (Reuters) – German authorities raided the homes of four alleged neo-Nazis whom they suspect of attempting to obtain weapons, ammunition and explosives with which to attack political opponents, prosecutors said on Tuesday.

The raids, targeting a group calling itself the Northern Eagle, took place on Tuesday morning at locations in northern Germany.

Authorities have become increasingly concerned about the activities of far-right movements such as the Reichsbuerger (Citizens of the Reich), who do not recognise modern Germany as a legitimate state and insist the former “Deutsche Reich” is still alive despite Nazi Germany’s defeat in World War Two.

The domestic intelligence service estimates that the Reichsbuerger have several thousand members. One of them shot dead a police officer in Bavaria in October.

The home in eastern Germany of a fifth individual, who was not a suspect, was also searched. The timing of any possible planned attack was not yet known. No arrests had yet been made as part of the investigation, which continues.

  11. ‘Blood all over the road’ Tragic London stabbing victim was university law student

A TEENAGER murdered in the latest shocking London stabbing was a university law student, it has emerged.

Tragic Sami Sidhom, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene following the stabbing in Chestnut Avenue, Forest Gate, at around 11.30pm on Monday.

Neighbours described how he collapsed outside screaming “I’ve been stabbed” and how several people tried desperately to save him.

Sami lived with his gran and dad and was in his first year studying history and law at Queen Mary University in London.

Heartbroken friends described how he loved computer games and running.

Neighbour Tariq Bhugeloo, 22, said: “Like the sun shines he’s like that, he doesn’t stay out late or is in any gangs, he’s no gang member.

“The only time I saw him go out was to get food for his gran.

  13. UK says nerve agent used to poison ex-Russian spy was in liquid form: BBC

LONDON (Reuters) – The nerve agent used to poison former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter at his home in England last month was delivered in a liquid form, the BBC reported officials as saying.

Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia were found slumped on a bench in the city of Salisbury on March 4.

Britain has blamed Russia for the attack which the authorities said was carried out using a Novichok form of nerve agent. Moscow denies the accusation and says Britain is trying to whip up anti-Russian hysteria.

The BBC said the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs which is handling a clean-up operation in Salisbury had said a “very small amount” of Novichok was used with the substance delivered in a “liquid form”.

Police have previously said they believed the poison had been applied to the front door of Skripal’s modest home.

Yulia Skripal, 33, was discharged from hospital a week ago while her father is no longer in a critical condition.

  14. Judge in Michael Cohen client ‘outing’ presided at Soros wedding, was early Clinton AG pick
    By J.E. Dyer April 16, 2018

This matters. We brought you a headline earlier today on the report that the third “mystery” client of Michael Cohen – a list that became of interest to some after Cohen’s home and office were raided by the FBI – was radio and Fox News personality Sean Hannity.

The judge in the case insisted that the identities of all of Mr. Cohen’s clients be revealed to the court:

At the hearing before Mr. Hannity’s name was revealed, Stephen Ryan, an attorney for Mr. Cohen, said the then-unnamed client didn’t wish to be associated with the notoriety of the search warrant. He said revealing the client’s name would “affect people’s willingness to consult an attorney,” eliciting laughter from the crowded courtroom.

Judge [Kimba] Wood ordered his attorneys to provide the name in court, saying Mr. Cohen’s team “has not met the standard for an exception to the notion that client identity…must be revealed.”

Some of you, like me, will remember the name Kimba Wood.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2018/04/16/judge-michael-cohen-client-outing-presided-soros-wedding-early-clinton-ag-pick/

    • As is usual all of the usual left wing suspect cluster around the Judges that are ruling on the Mueller inquisition. Kimba Wood had to step down from being Clintons Attorney General because she hired an illegal to be her nanny. She presided at the Obama marriage and at the marriage of George Soros to his third wife.

        • All of the Clinton and Obama scandals have the same people running around, and they are all concerned with protecting the Clintons and Obama. No matter what happens they always find someone in the group that takes the fall for the crime and then other members of the group come to their defense and they end up getting a slap on the wrists.

  15. BREITBART – FRANCE – TOULOUSE – Riots, Cars Burned After Woman Ordered to Remove Full-Face Islamic Veil

Hundreds of police were deployed after residents rioted and torched cars in Toulouse following a police stop of a woman wearing an illegal full-face Islamic veil.

The incident that allegedly sparked the riots took place Sunday after 5 pm when local police stopped a woman in the Toulouse district of Bellefontaine who was wearing a full-face Islamic veil, which is illegal in France.

Police asked the woman for identification and when she presented a poor photocopy of her government identification, they ordered her to remove her veil, broadcaster Franceinfo reports.

The woman refused to lift her veil and is said to have started screaming for help. She was then arrested and placed in the police vehicle.

Shortly after, around 30 locals arrived and attacked the police with projectiles, injuring one officer. The officers retreated and discharged their weapons, including a tear gas launcher, 18 times before they could escape the mob.

Police believe there may have been a link between the incident and the riots in Bellefontaine and the neighbouring district of Reynerie which erupted at around 8 pm.

Around 15 cars were torched by the rioters and 200 police mobilised during the riots which lasted several hours with some 300 tear gas grenades fired until calm was restored at around midnight.

Firefighters were not able to reach the scene until after 10:30 pm due to residents lighting fires on the road. The police station in Bellefontaine was also targetted by rioters.

“The clashes were extremely violent,” said Didier Martinez of the peacekeeping union. “My colleagues were very shocked, the events were very complicated to manage but they showed a lot of composure.”

While some link the niqab incident to the riots, other sources have speculated that the apparent suicide of a prisoner on Saturday at the Seysses prison near Toulouse may have also sparked the violence.

Car burnings are a common occurrence in some of the more troubled suburbs of France and are especially common in the suburbs around the French capital of Paris. Zone urbaine sensible, ZUS, better known as No Go Zones in English are a long-understood phenomenon that nonetheless are only now being recognised by establishment powers as actually existing.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel recently admitted that No Go Zones do exist in her country, only shortly after they were exposed in Breitbart London Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam’s groundbreaking book No Go Zones: How Sharia Law is Coming to a Neighborhood Near You.

On New Year’s Eve in 2016, police estimated that over 1,000 cars were torched across the country and several months later during the Bastille Day celebrations another 897 cars were set on fire in Paris’s heavily migrant populated suburbs.

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/17/cars-burned-riot-woman-remove-full-face-islamic-veil/

    • Riots, Cars Burned After Woman Ordered to Remove Full-Face Islamic Veil

As usual, a Muslim knowingly breaks the law, gets arrested, and inspires the local ummah to destroy property and generally make a supreme nuisance of themselves.

Let’s see, “around 15 cars were torched”. Fifteen times, let’s say, $30k per car (automobiles are far more expensive in Europe). That’s almost half a million dollars in property damage, right there.

Mobilizing 200 police officers in response to evening riots, just the overtime has got to be massive. Now, add in ancillary property damage to real estate plus treatment of any injuries and you’re headed upwards of one million dollars. All because of a deliberate criminal act that was interdicted by the police.

Evidently, Muslims have convinced themselves that attaching really high price tags to even minor or just perceived (Koran flushing, anyone?) slights will discourage further enforcement.

What they don’t seem to realize is that these various price tags—and their expense increases on a daily basis—are merely totaling up at the bottom of a reward poster. The poster’s grand total represents the value of deporting or confining Europe’s entire Muslim population.

  16. zero hedge – Saudi Arabia Would Send Troops To Syria As Part Of “Islamic Coalition”

Update (10:30 pm ET): Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said on local TV Tuesday that Saudi Arabia would consider sending troops to Syria if they were part of a coalition, per Sputnik.

“We’ve proposed America to send forces of the Islamic Coalition to Syria in order to fight against terrorism,” he said.

The Trump administration is hoping to secure a commitment from a handful of Middle Eastern states to assemble what is effectively an Arab army for a permanent military “stabilizing force” in Syria that would replace the U.S. military deployment in Syria and overthrow Assad prevent ISIS from regaining lost territory in Syria’s battle-ravaged east.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump’s new neocon National Security Advisor John Bolton, only in his second week on the job, has discussed the possibility of contributing troops with Egypt’s top intelligence official – allegedly one of the most influential figures in Egypt’s military-led regime.[…]

Arabs aren’t interchangeable. Tribal identification is paramount. These rumors spin 100,000 generic Sunni Arabs, ‘fighting for the cause’ {+cash}, financed by bottomless Gulf streams, electrified by _Jew_ magic.

And they’re all on Our Side! The Good Guys! White Hats!

Meanwhile, UAE princelings go to Sandhurst for status, and the GCC prefers Colombian mercenaries. I’ve seen videos of these “secret Arab armies”. Lip-reading, I see Spanish, not Arabic.

Intentional misdirection from people on Our Side is a definite possibility. Hopefully, presented with more skill than Assad’s “gassing of Douma”.

French President Emmanuel Macron claimed that the recent US-led air strikes on Syrian government targets were conducted “for the honour of the international community,” while taking part in a debate on the future of Europe organised by the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Tuesday.

    • French President Emmanuel Macron claimed that the recent US-led air strikes on Syrian government targets were conducted “for the honour of the international community,”…

Macron talking about the “honour of the international community”, is preposterous. By helping to throw open Europe’s doors, he has completely exacerbated the issue in Syria and much of the MME (Muslim Middle East).

Encouraging people to flee towards gentler (European) climes only assures that these beleaguered individuals will take the easy out, instead of remaining on their own soil and opposing those who would dispossess them.

Just Macron’s recent bouts of waffling on immigration are indicative of how useless this little sack of spit really is.

  18. Germany: Crackdown on Middle Eastern Crime Families
“The state must destroy the clan structures.”

    by Soeren Kern
    April 17, 2018 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12177/germany-crime-families

German authorities have launched a crackdown on Middle Eastern crime families in Essen, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia where some 70 Turkish, Kurdish and Arab-born clan members regularly engage in racketeering, extortion, money laundering, pimping and trafficking in humans, weapons and drugs.

Middle Eastern crime clans now control large swathes of German cities and towns — areas that are effectively lawless and which German police increasingly fear to approach.

The crime families, which have thousands of members, have for decades been allowed operate with virtual impunity: German judges and prosecutors were unable or unwilling to stop them, apparently out of fear of retribution.

The nascent crackdown comes nearly a year after the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) won regional elections in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and replaced the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), which, apart from one legislative period, has ruled the region since 1966.

Observers say that the clans have become so powerful and ruthless that the government’s only solution is to wage all-out war to utterly annihilate the clans. If the initial raid in Essen is any indication, however, the Middle Eastern crime families in Germany have little to fear.

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12177/germany-crime-families

    • Germany let them get too much power, now all that can be done is all out war. Elliot Ness and the war with Capone or Norman Schwarzkopf the first and the gang busters war on the mob in New Jersey in the 1930s are models of what is needed although the methods probably need to include a lot of extra judicial actions.

    • The state must destroy the clan structures.

Fecking priceless! Germany imports a gazillion of the most clannish people on earth and then blithely proposes to “destroy the clan structures”. What sort of idiots are running the show there?

As has already been show by the past several hundred years of human history, tribal and clan bonds are among the most difficult to break and doing so is one of the most unrewarding tasks imaginable.

The cement is drying very rapidly. Clans are knitting all across Europe—with especial thanks to family reunification policies—and quite soon will be sufficiently interconnected (in an intramural sense) that they will have Mafia-like characteristics.

Looking on the bright side, Muslim crime clans are just one more button on the coat when it comes to a frustrated Europe finally just shoveling these leeches onto Libyan shores and telling all of them to sort it out themselves.

      • A thousand years of inbreeding, the herd knows self and other by scent.
Another reason marshalling cross-clan, modern Muslim Arab armies is fantasy. Disguise themselves to blend in? Sure. /s

      • Yup, the good thing is when the Europeans finally decide to move they are much smarter then the Arabs, this will give them a major advantage in the fight. The bad thing is that (to a lesser extent) Europe is returning to tribalism also and the old tribal/national rivalries are going to be hindering the cooperation.

        • The bad thing is that (to a lesser extent) Europe is returning to tribalism also and the old tribal/national rivalries are going to be hindering the cooperation.

There’s those darn old “legacy ideologies” getting in the way of ultimate survival (again). Europeans are going to end up having to choose between abandoning age-old hatreds or being gathered into Islam’s withering embrace.

Replace Islam with Chinese Communism and the exact same model applies to East Asia. It is the epitome of Ben Franklin’s old adage about hanging together or separately.

The recent decision of Essener Tafel, a food bank in the city of Essen, Germany, temporarily to stop issuing membership cards to non-Germans has triggered an outcry among German politicians, journalists and activists, who have accused the charitable organization of “racism”. Serving about 16,000 poor people in the industrial city of Essen, Essener Tafel is one of the biggest charities in Germany, operated by volunteers only.

    Essener Tafel’s announcement read:

“Due to the increase in the number of refugees, the share of foreign fellow citizens among our customers has increased to 75 percent. To guarantee a reasonable integration, we see ourselves forced currently to accept only customers with a German passport.”

A board member of Essener Tafel told the weekly Die Zeit that the five-member board had discussed and changed the wording of these two sentences “for hours… until no one had an objection”. Neither had there been any criticism from the migrants who had to be sent away or among other charities with which the Essener Tafel cooperates, he said.

  20. What is the FBI Hiding in its War to Protect Comey?

USA – -(Ammoland.com)- The coup attempt against President Trump is rapidly collapsing, but the deep state is still in cover-up mode. In an article for The Hill I discussed the FBI’s continuing protection of former Director James Comey and Judicial Watch’s efforts to penetrate the truth.

As the James Comey saga continues to unfold, the James Comey legend continues to unravel. The more we learn about his involvement in the deep state’s illicit targeting of President Trump, the more reason the American people have to question both his motives and his management as director of the FBI, the now-disgraced agency he headed before Trump fired him. Comey has left a trail of suspicious activities in his wake.
Comey now looms large over a burgeoning constitutional crisis that could soon overshadow Watergate at its worst. To deepen the crisis even further, it now appears some of Comey’s former FBI and Justice Department colleagues continue to protect him from accountability.

Three suspicious activities stand out, all intertwined: the so-called Comey Memos, Comey’s controversial testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Comey’s book deal.

    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201804171063655063-russian-military-chemical-weapons-douma/

“Russian troops found a warehouse of substances necessary for the production of chemical weapons in Syrian Douma, media reported Tuesday, citing chemical defense specialist Alexander Rodionov.

“The discovered substances, such as thiodiglycol and diethanolamine, are necessary for the production of sulfur and nitrogen mustard gas. In addition, a cylinder with chlorine, similar to that used by militants for setting up the wide-spread fake story, was found in the warehouse. It can be concluded that this laboratory was used by illegal armed groups for the production of poisonous substances,” Rodionov said, as quoted by the Zvezda TV channel.

The tensions in Syria have increased sharply in the recent weeks after several media outlets, citing Syrian militants, blamed Damascus for using chemical weapons in the city of Duma in the Damascus suburb on April 7. The Syrian Foreign Ministry denied the claims, saying that the use of chemical weapons in Eastern Ghouta may have been planned by terrorist groups…”

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/17/hope-not-hate-publishes-location-of-right-wing-conference-antifa-activist-arrested-for-violence/

“A far-left Antifa member was arrested by Kent police following an attack on attendees of a Generation Identity conference which saw two overseas speakers, including Martin Sellner, detained and refused entry to the UK by border forces ahead of the event.

The Identitarian conference, which was labelled “European Reunion,” was held in Sevenoaks, Kent on Saturday with the exact location of the event kept private until far-left activist organisation HOPE not Hate published the exact location on Twitter. The far-left group then encouraged others to retweet the address.

Following the publication of the event location, several Antifa Twitter accounts also published the location promising to head to the area while posting an image advocating “hunting” members of the anti-mass migration activist group.

After Antifa arrived at the location the Identitarians had already vacated the conference venue. In a press release the group gave the reason for leaving the venue saying, “with the last of our speeches done and news that far-left groups were on there way, we decided to vacate the venue so that it wasn’t damaged if we were attacked.”

The Stag Theatre, however, claimed the group were kicked out of the venue, writing on Facebook that they had booked the room in the theatre under “false pretences.”

Attendees were later attacked by several masked Antifa extremists, with much of the attack being caught on video. The far-left then engage in a mass brawl, with at least one member of the Identitarians claiming to have been hit with a glass bottle…”

“The European Union says Turkey has failed to make progress and is even backsliding on bringing its laws into line with EU standards as it seeks to join the bloc.

The European Commission, which monitors membership talks, said Tuesday that Ankara continues to crack down on opponents and the media and that “no progress has been achieved” in fighting corruption.

Brussels called on Turkey to lift the state of emergency introduced after a failed coup attempt in July 2016.

It said “the broad scale and collective nature, and the disproportionality of measures taken … under the state of emergency, such as widespread dismissals, arrests, and detentions, continue to raise serious concerns.”

  29. Greek PM: Greek-Turkish relations in period of “instability” (abcnews, Apr 17, 2018)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/greek-pm-greek-turkish-relations-period-instability-54525120

“Relations between Greece and Turkey are experiencing a “period of instability,” the Greek prime minister said Tuesday, stressing that Greece will not negotiate over any part of its territory.

Speaking from the small eastern Aegean island of Kastelorizo, which he visited to inaugurate a desalination plant, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said he had a “message of cooperation” for Greece’s eastern neighbor, but also “a message of determination.”

Greece and Turkey have seen relations deteriorate in recent weeks over disputed boundaries in the Aegean Sea and disputed oil-and-gas drilling rights off the divided island of Cyprus.

On Monday, Ankara accused Athens of a provocation after a Greek flag was hoisted on an uninhabited islet in the eastern Aegean. Last week, a Greek fighter pilot died when his plane crashed into the central Aegean as he returned from a patrol. Aegean patrolling has intensified in recent weeks amid near-daily interceptions and mock dogfights between Greece and Turkey in disputed airspace.

“Many times we find ourselves, it is true, in troubled times, faced with the unjustifiable behavior, a provocative stance and an aggressive stance by our neighbors,” Tsipras said. “These days we are experiencing one such period of instability, which is not in line with the principles of good neighborliness or with the rules of international law.”

Tsipras said his country sought cooperation, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence with its neighbors.

“Greece threatens nobody, but also fears nobody,” he said. “And Greece can defend its sovereign rights from edge to edge of this country.”

Although they are NATO allies, relations between Greece and Turkey have often been severely strained through the decades, mainly over territorial disputes in the Aegean and over Cyprus.

The two have come to the brink of war three times since the early 1970s.”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/pakistan-convicts-judge-wife-torturing-child-servant-54521469

“A Pakistani high court convicted a former judge and his wife of torturing a 10-year-old child working as a servant at their home and sentenced them to a year in prison on Tuesday.

Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court also fined the couple — former deputy district judge Raja Khurram and his wife Maheen — the sum of 100,000 Pakistani rupees, about $900.

The case of the girl, Tayyaba, first made headlines when police rescued her in 2016 from the judge’s residence in Islamabad, following complaints from neighbors.

Initially her parents struck a deal to pardon the couple but the Supreme Court, which also acts as a supervisory tribunal, ordered a retrial.

Prosecutor Tariq Jahangiri said the verdict was reached after a retrial that lasted one year.

Later, the convicted couple was granted bail by the same court. Their defense attorney, Rizwan Abbasi, said the bail was granted against bonds of 50,000 rupees each to allow them to appeal the conviction. Abbasi said he will file the appeal in the country’s Supreme Court.”

  31. Imams needed in Russian prisons to fight Islamic radicalization

Prisons around the world are being increasingly dubbed ‘hotbeds for jihadists’. A report by the International Center for the Study of Radicalisation and Political violence, claims many terrorist plots have been drawn up behind bars.

    • Al Jazeera Plus – Why Inmates Are Converting to Islam

Islam isn’t just the fastest-growing religion in the world, it’s also the fastest-growing faith in U.S. prisons. But why do so many inmates turn to this religion?

10 to 15% of U.S. prisoners are Muslim, and many of them had to fight to practice their faith behind bars. So how different is observing Islam while incarcerated? And what happens to their faith when new converts are released?

  32. Byron York: On James Comey and what the FBI thought about Michael Flynn

n his ABC interview, fired FBI Director James Comey was asked about reports that he told Congress, in March 2017, that the FBI agents who interviewed Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn did not think Flynn had lied to them — even though Flynn, several months later, pleaded guilty to one count of lying to the FBI.

Did Comey tell lawmakers that? Here is the exchange between Comey and ABC’s George Stephanopoulos:

  33. Why Bomb Syria?
Yes, America’s interests are being served by striking Assad.
    April 17, 2018
    Bruce Thornton

Donald Trump’s order last Friday to launch missile strikes against Syria’s chemical weapons infrastructure has exposed the divisions among Americans over foreign policy. Some Trump supporters think the President has walked back from his America-first nationalism. Globalists of both parties agree that Bashar al Assad needed to be punished for brutally violating international conventions against chemical weapons. And the rabid anti-Trump left views the attack as a “wag-the-dog” diversion from Trump’s legal troubles.

So is there a legitimate reason for bombing Syria and possibly provoking Russian retaliation that risks dragging us deeper into the Middle East quagmire?

Many Americans, sick of a decade-and-a-half of American military presence in the region believe that “we don’t have a dog in that fight,” as the first Bush’s Secretary of State James Baker said of the brutal conflicts in the disintegrating Yugoslavia of the early nineties. Some may remember George W. Bush’s willingness to be the “world’s policeman” ––after he campaigned against “foreign policy as social work” ––when he launched two wars in the region. They voted for Donald Trump in part because he was a critic of the endless war in Iraq and the still active war in Afghanistan and their delusional nation-building aims, and vowed to put “America first.”

  34. Why Comey Crashed and Burned
    April 17, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

The Comey train had just left the station, but it’s already wrecked.

The wreckage was inevitable. Like most first-time celebrities, the former FBI director had badly miscalculated what audiences actually wanted from him and confused it with what he wanted from them.

They were never very interested in his deep personal struggles. Or his random thoughts on anything in the FBI. Nobody was putting this kind of money on the line for another memoir.

They wanted dirt. And after all the noises, Comey couldn’t actually deliver.

  35. Comey ‘Friend’ Who Leaked FBI Memos Now Claims To Be His Attorney
Daniel Richman, the law professor who leaked classified FBI records to the media at Comey’s request, refused to disclose when exactly he became Comey’s attorney.
January 23, 2018 By Sean Davis

A friend of former FBI director James Comey who leaked sensitive FBI memos to The New York Times in the wake of Comey’s firing in 2017 now claims to be Comey’s personal attorney. Daniel Richman, a law professor at Columbia University, told The Federalist via phone on Tuesday afternoon that he was now personally representing Comey.

The revelation comes in the wake of news that Comey was interviewed by the special counsel’s office last year. According to The New York Times, the line of questioning from the office of special counsel Robert Mueller focused on memos that Comey wrote and later leaked after he was fired from his job by President Donald Trump. A review of FBI policies governing the handling of sensitive government documents suggests Comey violated FBI policy by leaking the memos, which were produced on government time, using government equipment, and directly related to his official government responsibilities, according to Comey’s own testimony before Congress.

According to former CIA director John Brennan, who served in that post under Barack Obama, even after Obama had been apprised that Russia was conducting cyber-warfare against the United States he refused to go on the offensive and retaliate against Moscow.

Speaking at the University of California, Berkeley, on Saturday, Brennan admitted that there was a plan to respond and retaliate against Moscow that had been formulated by the intelligence community, but Obama refused to act, instead weakly issuing a verbal warning to Russia. Brennan acknowledged, “President Obama was the ultimate decision-maker on that.”

Brennan said Obama was afraid that if America retaliated, Russia would increase their cyber-warfare against the United States. He stated, “There was consideration about rattling their cages with some type of cyber event.”
