  1. VICE News – How To Prep Before Grilling The Most Powerful Person On The Internet

Rep. Greg Walden, the chairman of the House committee that grilled Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday, told VICE News it may be time for other tech CEOs to come before his committee to outline their own data privacy practices.

“This is not just a Facebook issue,” he said in an interview, noting that other internet companies scrape and sell access to consumers’ data just like Facebook.

Walden, an Oregon Republican, said he’d like to know from companies like Amazon or Google, “what are their protections, what are their user agreements? What should we know about their activities? What can they better regulate themselves, so we don’t have to over-regulate here?”

Walden chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where Zuckerberg answered five hours worth of questions from members Thursday on everything ranging from its data sharing practices to its efforts to crack down on foreign election medddling. It was the Facebook CEO’s second round of questioning on the Hill, after he testified in front of a Senate panel on Tuesday — part of an apology tour on Capitol Hill meant to reassure lawmakers in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data scandal.

Walden — an Oregon Republican whose district is home to three Facebook data centers — has been cautious on enacting new regulations to prevent similar abuses in the past. After Zuckerberg’s testimony, Walden said he was still giving Facebook the benefit of the doubt when it came to implementing reforms to its data policies.

“They’ve got to show the consumer just us the consumer that they understand their problem, they’re going to fix it and we’re not going to see another apology tour in six months or two years from now,” he said.

If Facebook fails to do so, Walden added, “there are things in terms of how we can better control our own data I think if they don’t fix we can.”

    • Democrat Congressman Accuses Zuckerberg of Being in the Tank—for Trump

Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.) suggested that Facebook may be partly to blame for Hillary Clinton’s loss in the 2016 election. During a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing about Facebook’s questionable data practices Wednesday, Sarbanes asked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg—a dedicated leftist who runs a company that is overwhelmingly filled with leftists—to explain why Trump’s campaign was able to run so many more Facebook ads than Clinton’s.[…]

[…]But it’s not Trump’s fault that Hillary chose to sink her campaign funds into pantsuits or whatever rather than Facebook ads. Nor is it Zuckerberg’s fault. By all accounts, both campaigns were offered identical services. In retrospect, Trump—or more likely his digital campaign strategist Brad Parscale—made smart decisions on digital, which ultimately helped push him over the top in November 2016.

The sour grapes about Hillary’s loss continue apace. Her supporters on the left can’t accept that she lost because she was an unlikeable candidate who ran a shambolic campaign. But blaming left-wing Facebook for her loss—and suggesting that the social media company may have put its thumb on the scale in order to help Trump win—is nothing short of batty.

But blaming left-wing Facebook for her loss—and suggesting that the social media company may have put its thumb on the scale in order to help Trump win—is nothing short of batty.

Since when has being bat-sh!t crazy ever disqualified a modern Progressive from entering the game? From all outward appearances, you’d almost have to believe it’s listed in the latest job requirements for new generations of budding young social engineers.

Attempting to connect Facebook with Trump is a sterling example of just how desperate these people are for whatever smidgen of available closure there can obtained regarding Hillary’s 2016 election loss. So what if it can only operate in the presence of stable fluorine? Welcome to the Postmodern motif of, “Anything’s possible if I just wish hard enough (and routinely physically assault whomever expresses even the slightest doubt or contrary opinion).”

Calling Hillary, “an unlikeable candidate who ran a shambolic campaign”, is (if not just insufficiently descriptive) an excessively polite understatement, at best. Should Donald Trump’s sole achievement (be it through one or even two entire administrations) be to have successfully excluded Hillary from the Oval Office, then his whole political career will have been a stunning success.

This entire Postmodern movement is hacking away at the most fundamental moorings of Western Civilization. Ones that, as Richard is fond of noting, we aren’t going to get back anytime soon (if we’re so tom-fool idiotic as to let them slip from our grasp).

Symptomatic of this erosion–corrosion is a growing inability for regular people to either use or (at least) adequately appreciate the Scientific Process and its countless benisons. This loss of analytical and critical thinking is rendering many modern societies just so many interchangeable (humanoid) parts … which, of course, is precisely what this world’s financial and political elite envision for all of us Great Unwashed.

Stigmatizing conformity may well prove to be a crucial step in defending the many other behavioral forms that merit similar protection. Pat Condell addressed this notion in his latest video and whatever it is that smashes the mold of what passes for Postmodern (culturally Marxist) “thought” needs to be deployed at the earliest opportunity.

Far too much damage is happening each minute, hour, and day to allow this mental cancer to spread any further. The unholy alliance between Progressives and Islam will make this one of the most nasty (and possibly bloody) tasks in human history.

Somewhere around two or three billion people are infected with this nonsense (be it Postmodernism or Islam, et al) and remedying this global malaise will not be fun nor pretty. However, if humanity wishes to survive relatively intact, it will be necessary to solve both of these problems before they can (and will most assuredly) destroy us.

If this sounds flipping ominous … it should. There are immensely powerful forces (e.g., Soros) arrayed against those of us who desire simple basics like secure borders, free markets, and small government. The collisions that we currently face will create a trifecta of bottlenecks that are going to cull a big chunk of this world’s population.

It’s up to us to make sure that it is we who emerge from the other side of these looming constrictions. If that does not happen, all that springs to mind is a Global Gulag™.

    • Thank you for the sentiments, yucki.

Always remember. Never forget. Never forgive.

      Forever.

Armenia (please, oh please, read Franz Werfel’s, “The Forty Days of Musa Dagh”), the Shoa, the Gulags, Myanmar, and every last one of these Chicom “re-education camps” must NEVER be forgotten. All of them are shameful testimony to “man’s inhumanity to man”, and I’m fed up to my teeth with this brutal crap.

Especially with shortsighted, history-deficient maroons who prance around pretending that they’re qualified moral arbiters. I don’t give a damn if it’s Limbaugh or HuffPo, all of them need to purchase a stinking clue.

PS: Forgiveness is only due to those who penitently ask for it. Forgiving those who are unashamed of their evildoing is the same as encouraging them. Full Stop.

Herein lies a significant portion of the West’s problem with Islam.

Our largely Judeo-Christian nature makes us want to “turn the other cheek” … even as a death cult like Islam is impatient to slash that other cheek!

For cultures to productively interact, they must have reliable and consistently high-functioning “points of contact”. Be they economic, ideological, or simply an issue of mutual dependency matters not. However, the gears must mesh.

As Old Bill would say, “Therein lies the rub.” There are so few operable points of contact between Western and Islamic cultures (as a whole), that the near-future contains some clearly unavoidable and very serious unpleasantries.

There is no way around this (otherwise) guaranteed friction. Islam continues to be carborundum grit in the gears of our modern world. The annual economic cost is beyond calculation, trust me (as in TRILLIONS). This is no small issue, and the (putatively) diligent efforts of MbS to reboot Saudi Arabia are distinct indicators of just how severe the penalties of failure will be.

After the 9-11 Atrocity, Saudi Arabia has been behind an Eight Ball of orbital proportions. MbS clearly knows this but may not have enough personal power to realign the Wahhabi and “royal” structure in time to ameliorate all of this friction.

Regardless of how so many billions of people pretend otherwise. And it is exactly this widespread intentional disregard for these unpromising psychosocial mismatches which pose such a monumental threat to our planet’s most promising efforts to become a genuinely space-faring species.

  3. Exclusive: Break-up of California moves a step closer as billionaire gets enough signatures to trigger vote

The chance of California splitting into three has moved a step closer after a billionaire secured enough signatures to trigger a referendum on the issue.

Tim Draper, who made his money through Hotmail and Skype, has gathered 600,000 signatures supporting the change – way above the 364,000 needed.

Those who want to break up California believe it would boost educational standards and reduce the political power of Sacramento, the state’s capital.

Providing the state authorities agree the signatures are genuine a referendum on the issue will be held this November alongside other mid-term elections.

Permit me to suggest a dividing line that carries everything north (including) Big Sur and Yosemite into something called, “Superior California”. The obvious alternative is naming whatever Southern portion (Hollywierd included), “Inferior California”.

  4. Whoopi Goldberg: Riots Over Mueller Firing ‘Would Be Fun to Watch’

Wednesday on ABC’s “The View,” co-host Meghan McCain said if President Donald Trump fired special counsel Robert Mueller, there would be riots in Washington D.C. “at levels we haven’t seen.”

McCain said, “We are sitting around pontificating about something that hasn’t happened, that’s going on a lot of unnamed sources so I don’t think we should get too far ahead of our skis. I do think everything you’re saying about what would happen if he does fires Mueller, I have said, Lindsey Graham has said it’s political suicide. I one hundred percent think there would be — I think there would actually be rioting in Washington, D.C. I think it would be at levels we haven’t seen.”

Its the ultimate music lover’s fantasy – being picked out of the audience by your idol at a huge rock concert for a fleeting moment of on-stage fame and adulation.

But in China, you are more likely to be picked out by one of thousands of police surveillance cameras which link people to crimes through advanced facial recognition technology.

That’s what happened to a 31-year man who was held by police for questioning over an “economic dispute” as he waited with more than 60,000 fans of Hong Kong’s Jacky Cheung for a night of pumping Cantopop.

The suspect, who was identified only as Mr Ao, had driven almost 60 miles to the concert in the south-eastern city of Nancheng with his wife and several friends, reports say.

Our memories leave a clear and unique genetic mark on our brains.

That’s the remarkable discovery of scientists in Israel who say these genetic markers could be used to unlock memories after people die.

The technology opens the door to strange scenarios, similar to those portrayed in the series ‘Black Mirror’, where investigators can record and playback the memories of suspected criminals.

It could even lead to a future in which police are able to read and replay memories of murder victims to help them piece together the events leading up to their death.

  7. BREAKING: One step closer to war: Macron ‘has proof’ Assad used chemical weapons (dailymail, Apr 12, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/945092/world-war-3-syria-france-macron-chemical-weapons

“FRENCH President Emmanuel has said he has PROOF that chemical weapons were used by the Syrian government .

He added he would decide on what action to take once all the information has been verified.

Macron previously vowed to launch military action if France had evidence of chemical weapons being used.

The US and its allies, including the UK, have been considering whether to hit Syria over the suspected poison gas attack that medical relief organisations say killed dozens of people in the rebel-held town of Douma near Damascus on Saturday.

Speaking to Sky News this morning, the Chair of the International Institute for Strategic Studies Council (IISS) said a strike against Syria’s rogue regime will be inevitable after French President Emmanuel Macron announced Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had “crossed his red lines” on the use of chemical weapons.

Mr Heisbourg added a strike would be aimed at Syria’s chemical weapons capability and will be conducted with the help of US President Donald Trump.

He said: “The position is very clear, Macron stated some months ago that the use of chemical weapons would be a red line which if crossed would entail a French military response.

“He stated earlier today that the red line had been crossed and therefore the assumption has to be that there will be a French military strike, probably conducted with the United States of America in fairly short order.

    More to follow..”

  9. Greece fighter jet CRASHES in dogfight with Turkey plane just day after Greeks open fire (express, Apr 12, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/945103/greece-fighter-jet-crash-dogfight-turkey-aircraft

“A GREEK fighter jet has crashed into the sea after claims of a dog fight with Turkish planes in disputed airspace just days after Greek soldiers opened fire on a helicopter.

he Mirage 2000-5 plunged into the eastern Aegean Sea today near the island of Skyros.

It was thought to have been returning to base after intercepting Turkish fighter jets.

Greek authorities are currently searching for the aircraft’s pilot.

It is not known yet if he survived the crash.

According to local media, the jet had been involved in a dog fight with the Turkish jets.

However, Turkey had denied having any planes in the region.

The crash follows a spike in tensions between Greece and Turkey over the disputed airspace.

On Monday, Greek soldiers fired on a Turkish helicopter in the Aegean.

Soldiers fired tracer rounds towards the helicopter as it approached the island of Ro late on Monday night.

After the shots – described as warning shots – had been fired, the chopper left the area.

The Greek government accused Turkey of a provocative act after the aircraft approached with its navigation lights switched off.

Both countries are at odds over the sovereignty of the Aegean islands, the waters around them and the airspace above.

Turkish aircraft are said to have entered the airspace thousands of times, leading to a number of dog fights between the air forces.

The current escalation began when the Greek Supreme Court blocked the extradition of eight Turkish soldiers who Ankara claims were involved in the country’s coup.

Greece blocked the extradition saying they would not have a fair trial under President Erdogan.

Last summer the captain of a Turkish freight ship said the Greek coast guard had opened fire on his vessel after he refused an order to dock at a port in the Aegean Sea.

And last month two Greek soldiers were captured by Turkish military after they crossed the border.

Turkey accuses them of being spies, whereas Greece says the men simply got lost in fog and crossed the border by accident.

    More to follow.”

Obama weakened counterintelligence against foreign spies, Congress told

China is engaged in large-scale theft of American research and technology from universities, using spies, students, and researchers as collectors, experts told Congress on Wednesday.

Compounding the technology theft, the administration of President Barack Obama weakened U.S. counterintelligence efforts against foreign spies by curbing national-level counterspy efforts, a former counterintelligence official disclosed during a House hearing.

Michelle Van Cleave, former national counterintelligence executive, said shortly after the creation of the office of the director of national intelligence in 2004, a national counterspy program against foreign spies was restricted during the administration of President George W. Bush.

“Unfortunately, the backsliding continued under President Obama,” Van Cleave told two subcommittees of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5606663/Children-two-illegal-immigrants-getting-300-week-taxpayers-living-AFRICA.html

“The children of illegal immigrants who came to the UK on holiday and later tried to claim asylum are being paid £300-a-week in benefits despite living in Africa, it was revealed today.

The boy, aged seven, and baby girl, one, are now living with their aunt in the unnamed African nation but are still getting handouts from the British taxpayer.

They will receive benefits until they both turn 16, the High Court has ruled, meaning the pair will receive £187,000 by that time.

The children were both born in the UK but taken off their parents after they were deemed unfit to care for them by the courts.

Their mother claimed asylum in 2004 saying she was the victim of sexual abuse and violence only to be exposed as a liar.

Their abusive father was jailed for six months possessing a fake passport and has spent the past eight months in a detention centre awaiting deportation.

Meanwhile the county council in charge of caring for the children has agreed to support them financially until they turn 16 – even though they no longer live in Britain.

The local authority, believed to be in southern England, will pay the eldest child £15,600-a-year until she turns 16 in nine years.

  14. Europe’s Jews Facing Resurgent Anti-Semitism, Highest Levels ‘Since the Second World War’

Jewish communities across Europe are enduring a level of mainstream anti-Semitism “not seen since the Second World War,” the European Jewish Congress has warned.

That chilling message was delivered just hours after Tel Aviv University’s Kantor Center Report on Antisemitism Worldwide 2017 was released on Wednesday, which noted that while the number of violent anti-Semitic incidents dropped in 2017 by 9 percent, to 327 cases, all types of incidents—ranging from harassment, vandalism, to assaults—have jumped.

The 105-page report dissects the spread of anti-Semitism in Europe, the post-Soviet region, the US, Canada, Australia, South America and South Africa. It records 327 major incidents of violence, vandalism and desecration in 2017, compared with a peak of 1,118 in 2009 and a low of 78 in 1989, the year the study began.

It found 30 percent of attacks were directed at individuals, 20 percent at cemeteries and memorial sites, and 17 percent at synagogues.

(Reuters) – Through binoculars mounted atop a tall building, I followed two women slowly making their way from the other side, across the bridge. The rusted device was a military type, and what I saw made them look as if they were targeted. It was very cold and I struggled to place my lens on the binoculars to take a picture.

I was on the border between China and North Korea with my usual reporting partner on such stories, Sue-Lin Wong, on a week-long road trip. What we saw – from dirt-poor daily lives to clandestine economic activity on the Korean side – included scenes not yet witnessed in foreign media.

On the same rooftop as us, two tourists were holding hands as they watched the women. They pulled out a selfie stick and took a picture with the border in the background. Soon after, they gave up sightseeing. But Sue-Lin and I stayed until my fingers were totally frozen from taking pictures. Then we went down, too.

    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201804121063477920-london-anti-gang-raids/

“The UK’s capital city has been plagued by a wave of violent crime in the first quarter or so of 2018, with over 50 murders reported so far this year. Many police officials and experts have attributed the rise in violent crime in London and the wider UK to austerity and budget cuts to police forces.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) launched a series of overnight anti-gang raids and arrested nine suspects, including a 14-year-old suspected drug runner who is currently being detained at a local police station.

A 49-year-old woman was also arrested, though it remains unclear if she is believed to have committed similar drug-related offenses.

The arrests were made in the areas of Northolt, Fulham, Greenford and Brentford. These areas have witnessed a large amount of gang activity and stabbings in recent years, with two people stabbed to death in Northolt in the past 14 months alone.

The raids – which involved some 200 police officers and were organized by the Met’s Trident anti-gang unit – targeted members of London’s MDP gang, which is believed to be behind a number of murders in the city.

Two firearms and an unspecified amount of cash were found and seized, according to Scotland Yard…”

“Khalifa Haftar, the military strongman who controls much of eastern Libya, is reportedly in a coma in a Paris hospital after suffering a stroke.

The 74-year-old general collapsed during a visit to Jordan earlier in the week and was evacuated to France, according to Le Monde.

A spokesman for Gen Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA) initially denied the reports but has since declined to comment.

Gen Haftar won the backing of Egypt, the UAE, and Russia by presenting himself as a stabilising force in Libya who could be relied on to confront Islamist factions in the country’s east.

While the Western powers formally support the Gen Haftar’s rivals in the UN-backed government in Tripoli, Western governments had been increasingly open to dealing with the military leader…”

“Indonesia’s conservative Aceh province says it will no longer allow canings for violations of Shariah law to be carried out in public, apparently in response to international condemnation of the caning last year of two men for gay sex.

A memorandum of understanding signed Thursday by Aceh Gov. Irwandi Yusuf and Yuspahruddin, head of the provincial Law and Human Rights office, stipulates that caning can only take place inside prisons or other places of detention.

It says adults can still witness the punishment but the numbers will be much smaller than the hundreds who regularly cheered the outdoor proceedings.

Hundreds of people have been publicly caned since it was introduced as a punishment in Aceh in 2005. Aceh is the only province in Muslim-majority Indonesia that practices Shariah law.”

  20. Saudi prince visits Spain amid criticism over defense sales (abcnews, Apr 12, 2018)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/saudi-prince-visits-spain-amid-criticism-defense-sales-54412922

“The crown prince of Saudi Arabia was on an official visit Thursday to longtime commercial ally Spain, where activists are criticizing past and possible future sales of military equipment to the kingdom.

Mohammed bin Salman was due to attend a banquet with Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia before meeting with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and with Defense Minister Maria Dolores de Cospedal.

The 32-year-old heir to the Saudi throne and Rajoy were scheduled to preside over the signing of bilateral agreements, according to the visit’s official agenda, which provided no further details.

Amnesty International, Greenpeace, Oxfam and Spain’s FundiPau have criticized a possible contract to build and sell five Navy corvettes, valued at 2 billion euros ($2.47 billion), that Spain is seeking to sign with Saudi Arabia.

In a statement sent by Arms Under Control, which is a coalition of the four nongovernmental organizations, they urged Spain to stop exporting weapons that could be used by the Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, where the United Nations says thousands of civilians have died.

Now at the center of the Saudi kingdom’s power structure, the crown prince has instigated reforms to shed its austere image, though human rights organizations have called the changes “cosmetic.”.

Prince Mohammed’s arrival in Spain came after visits to the United States, Britain and France. Those three countries are the main exporters of military equipment and weapons to Saudi Arabia, according to the independent global security database of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute…”

    http://news.trust.org/item/20180412100030-j5h3s/

“The Trump administration is warning Pakistan it could lose U.S. civilian aid worth tens of millions of dollars this year if Washington finds that the South Asian nation has not done enough to combat human trafficking, U.S. officials said.

An aid cutback would deal a fresh blow to U.S.-Pakistan relations following President Donald Trump’s suspension in January of some $2 billion in U.S. security assistance over what Trump said was Islamabad’s failure to crack down on Afghan insurgent sanctuaries used for attacks into Afghanistan.

A large portion of U.S. civilian aid – $265 million in 2017, according to a source at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad – could be withheld if the State Department puts Pakistan on a list of worst global offenders in human trafficking in an annual report due out in June.

The funding is relatively modest for the size of Pakistan’s economy. But Islamabad could suffer a heavier jolt if Washington also decides to oppose new assistance from international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank…”

  24. Strzok, Page, and Rand Paul: A word about security clearances
    By J.E. Dyer April 11, 2018

Saw on Fox this morning that Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) had gotten a response from the FBI on Paul’s query about whether Peter Strzok and Lisa Page still have their Top Secret clearances, and whether they are able to access “FISA” related material or other highly classified data.

This is what the FBI said:

All FBI employees must maintain a Top Secret security clearance. Because of security concerns and law enforcement sensitivities, the FBI does not reveal the specific accesses granted to particular employees. The release of information regarding access to and searches of FBI databases is similarly constrained by law enforcement sensitivities or the classified nature of that information, as well as related FBI security measures.

Paul correctly understands from this that the FBI isn’t going to readily tell him anything.

  26. Shapiro Tweets About Zuckerberg’s Testimony. Internet Melts Down.

On Tuesday, Mr. Zuckerberg went to Washington to face what he and his lawyers knew would be yet another combative, camera-filled congressional grilling. Overall, the Facebook co-founder and CEO seemed to do his best to answer as honestly as he could, but on a few of occasions his lawyers probably wish they could get a re-do.

In a post Tuesday, Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro pointed out what might prove to be Zuckerberg’s most significant statement during the hearing, which set off a flood of responses online.

  27. UNREAL: Palestinians Who Burned Tires So Israel Could Not See Terrorist Infiltrators Demand Israel Give Them More Tires

    Unbelievable.

Only two days after Palestinians burned thousands of tires on the Israeli border with Gaza in order to create smoke that would hide Palestinian terrorists from Israel Defense Force troops, a spokesman for the Palestinian Transport Ministry complained of the ensuing shortage of tires, demanding that Israel supply more.

Last Friday, Gazans burned 10,000 tires to obscure the vision of the security fence separating Israel from Gaza so that Israeli troops could not not see infiltrators into the land.

Then, on Sunday, speaking to The Jerusalem Post, Muhammad Hamdan, a spokesman for the PA Transportation Ministry, made this incredible statement:

Hate speech and incitement make up the core of the Palestinian narrative.

For several decades now, the Palestinians have been waging a massive and vicious campaign of incitement against Israel. This campaign has made it impossible for any Arab to even think about the prospects of peace with Israel. Notably, the Palestinian hatred of Israel is not linked to anything Israel does or does not do. Rather, the Palestinian hatred of Israel is based on Israel’s existence. Palestinians hate Israel because they believe that Jews have no right to a sovereign country of their own in the Middle East.

Palestinian hate speech against Israel is part of the global landscape: by now, no one even expects anything else from them. A Palestinian mosque preacher calling Jews “descendants of monkeys and pigs” is no story at all — just more of the same. Similarly, a Palestinian maiming or murdering a Jew has become the norm.

The day will come — and it is not far away — when reports of Palestinians not inciting against Israel and Jews will be a remarkable one. The day will come when the only story worth reporting is when a Palestinian did not carry out a terrorist attack against a Jew that day.

  29. GERMANY – Police Arrest Man For Killing Baby, Ex-Wife

A man from Niger stabbed to death his German ex-wife and their one-year-old daughter in a brutal attack in a busy train station Thursday, police said.

The bloody knife killings took place mid-morning in the busiest subway station of Hamburg, Germany’s second-biggest city.

“The crime was very, very terrible in its execution, very targeted and very, very extreme,” said police spokesman Timo Zill.

“We currently assume it was a crime of passion.”

The 33-year-old suspect initially ran off but then phoned the police, who arrested him inside the Jungfernstieg underground station.

Police said the child died immediately in the attack around 0850 GMT and the 34-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Police and firefighters responded in large numbers, and trauma counselling was offered to witnesses and emergency responders.

  30. Convicted sex attacker who groomed and abducted 12-year-old girl to be repeatedly gang-raped by ‘pack of ravenous wolves’ is jailed for 23 years (dailymail, Apr 12, 2018)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5608245/Convicted-sex-attacker-groomed-abducted-12-year-old-girl.html

“A convicted sex attacker, who groomed and abducted a 12-year-old girl to be repeatedly gang-raped, has been jailed for 23 years.

Ibrahim Hussain, 35, from Bradford, raped the youngster three times over a three day period before taking her to a house where she was attacked by the five unknown men.

Judge David Hatton QC told the court she was raped by ‘what can only be described as essentially a pack of ravenous wolves’.

The judge concluded that Hussain had arranged for the girl to go to Leeds for money and he had also made threats to her to get her to comply.

He said the effect of Hussain’s ‘use and control over the girl’ had been immense.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had now moved out of the area and in a victim impact statement she said her life had been ruined and she did not know if she would ever get over her ordeal.

Jailing Hussain, Judge Hatton QC said: ‘You may have destroyed her. One hopes not, but only time will tell. You groomed her into having some affection for you.

‘She was a very vulnerable girl with an unstable home life and you preyed upon her vulnerability which you used for your own gratification.’

The court heard how Hussain was already on bail for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl he had contacted through Facebook when he took the vulnerable young girl from a park in Bradford last July.

Hussain contacted the 16-year-old via Facebook in September 2016 and tried to impress her with a photograph of his BMW and ‘delusional promises’ about coming out to meet someone special.

Judge Hatton added: ‘In the end she did not meet anyone particularly special she met you.

‘I am satisfied that there was only one thing on your mind and that was sexual activity.’

The court heard that Hussain plied the teenager with vodka before sexually assaulting her in his car.

Hussain was found guilty by a jury yesterday of abducting and raping the 12-year-old, sexually assaulting the teenager and facilitating or arranging the rape of the younger girl in Leeds.

Judge Hatton confirmed that Hussain will serve half of his jail term before being considered for release, but he will not be let out until the Parole Board decide it is safe to do so.

Hussain will also be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and he must also register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life…”

Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said he valued Europe’s Schengen zone of free travel as one of Europe’s greatest achievements, but he had no choice but to extend the checks at the Austrian border for now.

“Deficits in protection of the EU external borders and the scale of the illegal, secondary migration at the moment allow no other conclusion than that domestic border controls at the German-Austrian border remain necessary,” Seehofer said in a statement released by the ministry.

Germany and other Schengen countries introduced emergency border controls in 2015 after more than 1 million refugees and migrants flooded into Europe. Seehofer has been a frequent critic of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to open the door to the migrants…”

  32. Watergate Every Week: Using the FBI to Suppress a Political Revolution
From Steele to Mueller, the cost of overturning the 2016 election.
    April 12, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

In the early seventies, political operatives disguised as delivery men broke into a Washington D.C. office. These efforts to spy on the political opposition would culminate in what we know as Watergate.

In the late teens, political operatives disguised as FBI agents, NSA personnel and other employees of the Federal government eavesdropped, harassed and raided the offices of the political opposition.

The raids of Michael Cohen’s hotel room, home and office are just this week’s Watergate.

Political operatives have now seized privileged communications between the President of the United States and his lawyer. Despite fairy tales about a clean process, these communications will be harvested by the counterparts of Peter Strzok, who unlike him are still on the case at the FBI, some of it will appear in the Washington Post and the New York Times, and some will be passed along to other political allies.

That’s what happened at every juncture of Watergate 2.0. And it only follows that it will happen again.

Just like the eavesdropping, the process will be compartmentalized for maximum plausible deniability. The leakers will be protected by their superiors. The media will shrilly focus the public’s attention on the revelations in the documents rather than on the more serious crimes committed in obtaining them.

    • His predictions are all true but are stopping before they reach the truly evil level, Once the Praetorian Guard starts selecting the rulers it won’t be long before there are different groupings formed and the political assassinations start to see which group will be in control for the moment.

I don’t know that this can be stopped without a revolution that totally changes the government, and I don’t know if it can be stopped with a revolution that totally changes the government. All we can do is fight to retain our freedom and pray that this will be enough to restore an honest government to the United States.

  33. The New Cold War Heats Up in Syria
Sending a clear message to Assad, Putin and beyond.
    April 12, 2018
    Joseph Klein

President Trump laid down the gauntlet Wednesday morning in a blunt tweet directed at Russia: “Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!’ You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!” The president then added: “Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War.” He was evidently reacting to a warning by Alexander Zasypkin, Russia’s ambassador to Lebanon, that Russian President Vladimir Putin would order the downing of any American missiles fired at Syrian territory and take military action against “even the sources from which the missiles were fired.”

A Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman wasted no time in responding to President Trump’s Wednesday morning twitter threat: “Smart missiles should fly towards terrorists, not a legal government.”

Add to this saber rattling the fiery accusations exchanged between U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia at the United Nations Security Council earlier this week and it does seem like we are going back to the future.

  34. “The Call of Freedom”: Free Speech and Censorship
Should we trust government agencies to have all the people’s best interests at heart?
    April 12, 2018
    Bruce Thornton

In these contentious times, various forms of censorship or discouragement of free speech are continually being fiercely debated.

National Review Online writer Kevin Williamson, hired by the Atlantic for his scorched-earth attacks on Donald Trump, was fired after one column because of his scorched-earth attacks on women who’ve had abortions. Fox News commentator Laura Ingraham’s show has been boycotted by nearly 20 corporate advertisers because of her tweet mildly tweaking David Hogg about his failure to get into some universities. Hogg, of course, is the 17-year-old survivor of the recent mass shooting at a Florida high school who has become a petulant catspaw for the antigun lobby. Meanwhile, revelations of private data being sold or left vulnerable by Facebook, and the continuing censorship of political views by that platform along with YouTube and Google, have heated up calls for subjecting social media to government regulations.

Seems like dangerous times for our first inalienable right, the one protecting free and open speech. But before we endorse policies that end up making matters worse, we should be clear about why the Founders gave us a right that few other nations, including the E.U. states, allow their citizens.

The media isn’t just making war on the 2nd. It’s also at war with the 1st.

We’ve gotten plenty of lectures from the media about how Trump’s criticism of CNN is somehow a threat to the First Amendment. But here’s the New York Times suggesting that the National Enquirer doesn’t enjoy First Amendment protection.

And in the Trump era, A.M.I.’s flagship tabloid, The National Enquirer, has taken a decidedly political turn, regularly devoting covers to the president’s triumphs and travails with articles headlined “Trump’s Plan For World Peace!” and “Proof! FBI Plot to Impeach Trump!”

Since the early stages of his campaign in 2015, Mr. Trump, his lawyer Michael D. Cohen and Mr. Pecker have strategized about protecting him and lashing out at his political enemies…

Much as the media did with Obama. Ben Rhodes gave an interview in the New York Times in which he discussed manipulating the media.

In the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, a school district in a suburb of the northwest Pennsylvania city of Erie is arming its 500 teachers with baseball bats, reports CBS Erie affiliate WSEE-TV. “It is the last resort,” said Millcreek Schools Superintendent William Hall, “but it is an option and something we want people to be aware of.”

According to Hall, the 16-inch bats were distributed to each teacher following an in-service training day on how to respond to school shootings.

“We passed them out, with the goal being we wanted every room to have one of these,” said Hall. “Unfortunately, we’re in a day and age where one might need to use them to protect ourselves and our kids.”

  40. Here’s one for all the parents out there: Is it OK to let your child eat peanut butter at Target?

A mother on a New York parenting blog wrote Monday that while shopping at the store, she gave her four-year-old daughter a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and “a woman stopped me to lecture me about peanut allergies.”

The child’s mother then asked other moms on UrbanBaby if it was now unacceptable to eat peanut butter in public.

If your reaction is of course not, it’s a free country, you are definitely siding with the minority.

The anti-peanut butter backlash was swift and brutal. Most responses attacked the mother for potentially endangering children with peanut allergies. Some criticized her for feeding her daughter in a shopping cart, which they considered disgusting.
