  1. Notes from NorseRadish:

China’s Economic Growth Looks Strong. Maybe Too Strong.

    Hat tip: Richard:

“The things to remember are 1) that communist nations always lie about how their economy is doing, 2) The Soviet Union was reporting strong growth right up to the point that it collapsed. 3) The social unrest is probably much higher then we have been hearing.”

Some “things to remember”, with specific reference to China:

A.) China’s economy is the biggest financial bubble in all human history. To put things mildly, this hyper-inflated monetary abscess makes “Tulip Mania” (Dutch: Tulpenwindhandel)—which crashed Holland’s vigorous 17th century “golden age” economy for years—look like an amateurish “Nigerian scam“.

B.) China’s housing market is the biggest real estate bubble in all human history. As of 2011, Beijing’s own official estimate was that there were some 64 million vacant or unsold residential properties and apartments (already constructed). See the following “Ghost Cities” video.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbDeS_mXMnM

Consider how Communist China assiduously blocked all reporting of the 2003 SARS virus (as being harmful to the state’s image). At that time it was said that, “Many institutions are of the opinion that SARS will do more damage to economic growth in Asia than the war in Iraq.” Then recall how Canada alone suffered a one-year $350 million dollar loss in decreased tourism because of Red China’s refusal to openly state the actual extent and contagiousness of this virus.

Now—despite whatever slight improvements there have been in domestic reporting about negative outcomes—try to imagine whatever damage control currently is being attempted with regard to dozens of these “mega-cities” that remain totally uninhabited (i.e., at <10% occupancy).

There is no possible way to candy-coat the bitter pill of how Communist China has taken its ill-gotten (i.e., wildly imbalanced trade-related or currency-manipulation) gains and used them to pump up a flagging economy with artificial, make-work projects like constructing these gigantic "ghost cities".

Need it be said that Red China's ridiculously inflated and feigned property market is just one facet of a maladroitly cut “paste diamond economy” whose flaws cannot possibly withstand even passing scrutiny—much less the disinfecting sunlight of a properly conducted financial audit?

Much like Islam, Communist China is headed at top speed towards a brick wall of reality which no amount of doctrinal propaganda or state-administered control central planning possibly can avert.

The only upside to these looming catastrophes is (once they are over) that our world—despite all of the ensuing mayhem—will be much better off than it was when such flagrant affronts to even modest human intelligence were allowed to flounce about as putatively viable ideologies.

One can only hope these soon-to-arrive impacts will not manage to crater beyond all repair the global economy or its strategic equilibrium. Please be sure how there is little doubt that neither Islam nor Communism would feel even a slight twinge of remorse if their own implosions brought about worldwide chaos.

Quite to the contrary, adherents of these already failed ideologies—they just don’t know it yet—hold such a calculated descent into havoc as something deliberately chosen and a fully-desired outcome of their prospective demise. Yes, that is just how inconceivably evil both of these philosophical chancres (and others like them) manage to be.

After all, hasn’t this sort of disincentive been their explicit intent from the outset?!? Why else was MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) so successful against Soviet Communism? Of far greater concern is what sort of deterrent will be successful against a death-cult like Islam? Hint: It will be so ugly that, as usual, most non-Muslim countries will predictably shrink from the inevitable answer. Just as so many other previous (and now annihilated) cultures did in the past.

All the more reason to—at the very earliest opportunity—sweep these malicious entities from our world’s chessboard. As with so many other aspects of these conjoined excrescences, the malice aforethought required to crush this pair of monstrosities will be daunting in all cases (again, a specific part of their respective designs).

Only profound quantities of political, moral, and ethical determination will manage to overcome the deterring aspects of “out-stinking” these ideological “skunks”. It is beyond tragic that so much of this planet’s population remains utterly ignorant of how (some 99% of the time): “The only way to obtain peace is through war.”

With a sole exception (i.e., Madagascar) that proves the rule, Islam’s “peace” always has been brought about by the very cruelest and genocidal sort of mass-murder. Why so many people continue to delude themselves that eradicating this brutal and vicious ideology can be attained through negotiation, 0bama’s “soft power” (bwahahahahaha!!!), or limited warfare defies all credulity. So it is with Communism as well. Only Red China’s catastrophic implosion will serve to adequately persuade this ideology’s idiot subscribers that Socialism simply does not work.

For whatever reason, “fighting fire with fire” (whether dealing with Communism or Islam) seems to have lost all meaning in the Politically Correct vernacular of modern language Newspeak. This egregious oversight will be the source of much human suffering, especially for those who were so careless as to disregard such a well-known fact in first place.

  2. Rights activists, religious freedom ‘under attack’ in Malaysia (asiancorrespondent, Jan 19, 2018)
    https://asiancorrespondent.com/2018/01/rights-activists-religious-freedom-attack-malaysia/#dpCEHptKsTYtx7TP.97

“WITH elections due in August this year, a human rights group says the Malaysian government continued to shift toward a more conservative Islam while cracking down on critics in 2017, despite promoting itself as an administration that upholds moderation.

On Thursday, Human Rights Watch released its World Report 2018 where highlighted the government’s move to tighten repressive laws while lashing out against and criminally charging peaceful critics, amid corruption allegations still casting a long shadow over Prime Minister Najib Razak…”

  3. Al-Qaida moves in to recruit from Islamic State and its affiliates (theguardian, Jan 19, 2018)
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/19/al-qaida-recruit-from-islamic-state-affiliates-isis

“Al-Qaida has been trying to win over extremists from Islamic State, while the Isis “caliphate” collapses amid heavy losses of men, material, territory and prestige.

The recruitment campaign started last summer, even before Isis had lost its final strongholds, underlining the importance al-Qaida attach to winning over fighters and resources from its rivals.

One such effort was launched by al-Qaida militants in Algeria in August. Ten fighters who had been with the small Isis affiliate in the country switched allegiance after debates with Islamic scholars loyal to al-Qaida, local security sources reported. A second was launched in Syria in September.

In the Sahel region of north Africa, senior al-Qaida officials are believed to have reached out to the extremist commander whose men are thought to have ambushed and killed four US special forces in Niger in October.

Around the same time, a pro-al-Qaida news wire in Yemen boasted of the “repentance” of many Isis fighters who had been discouraged by their leaders’ religious approach, behaviour and by “mistreatment”, and who had recently joined its ranks. In Afghanistan a group of Isis fighters in the remote but strategically important central province of Ghor defected to the Taliban.

Such reports are being studied by western security officials hoping to understand the evolution of the threat posed by Isis in coming months and years.

Some analysts believe it will now lever its extensive network of allied groups and factions around the world to launch further attacks on the west, and to maintain its vanguard role among extremists.

The affiliates – once known as “governorates of the caliphate” – may also offer a safe haven to fighters fleeing Iraq and Syria, officials fear.

The loyalty of those who switched to Islamic State from al-Qaida, as well as further recruits not from al-Qaida, is a key indicator of the resilience of Isis as it evolves in the aftermath of the failed attempt to construct a new territorial power.

So far western officials say only a handful of fighters and groups among the network established since Isis launched its first major offensives appear to be reconsidering their allegiance…”

    • Well Duh, the lower ranking members of both groups will run to other terror groups once the main group is in trouble then run back when al Qaeda leadership gets killed off by various means.

      • “Well Duh, the lower ranking members of both groups will run to other terror groups once the main group is in trouble then run back when al Qaeda leadership gets killed off by various means.”

All of which begs the question of, “When these maggots cluster up for their reassignment interviews, why aren’t we providing complimentary Hellfire enemas for everybody involved?”

After all, it’s not as if we don’t maintain levels of satellite reconnaissance on these scumbags that can detect when they’ve changed their shorts during any given month.

  6. Wealthy exodus to escape new tax rules worries California Democrats

    By Adam Ashton

    Updated January 18, 2018 03:12 PM

The Republican-backed federal tax bill flipped the tables on a never-ending question for California politicians: Will high taxes lead the state’s wealthiest residents to flee the Golden State for the comparable tax havens of Florida, Nevada and Texas?

Republicans reliably raise that alarm when Democrats advocate for tax increases, like the 2012 and 2016 ballot initiatives that levied a new income tax on very high-earning residents.

But now, with the federal tax bill cutting off deductions that benefited well-off Californians, the state’s Democrats suddenly are singing the GOP song about a potential millionaire exodus.

“People with higher incomes pay a lot more money, and some of them may be tempted to leave,” Gov. Jerry Brown said when he unveiled his 2018-19 budget proposal last week. “This was an assault by the Republicans in Congress against California.”

      • Are those the total supposedly invested for the retiree or as I suspect the amount they will be paid each year?

    • “Will high taxes lead the state’s wealthiest residents to flee the Golden State for the comparable tax havens of Florida, Nevada and Texas?”

Why not ask Britain how their usurious taxation rates prompted some of that nation’s wealthiest individuals to flee overseas to places where wealth confiscation wasn’t such an all-consuming priority.

From: Stars warn of exodus from Britain over 50p [%] tax rate as Treasury admits 69% of the wealthy will evade it

Sir Michael Caine said: ‘The Government has taken tax up to 50 per cent and if it goes to 51 I will be back in America.’

‘They have reached their limit with me and that’s what will happen to a lot of people. You know how much they made out of that high taxation all those years ago? Nothing. But they sent a mass of incredible brains to America.

‘We’ve got 3.5million layabouts laying about on benefits, and I’m 76, getting up at 6am to go to work to keep them.’

It sounds as though Sir Michael has gotten a bellyful of putting up with things like a, “Council tenant living in £2m townhouse” and similar coddling of other social benefit leeches suckling at the swollen public teat.

At the above link are additional URLS for:

      • Mother gets £170,000 [$236,175 US] a year benefits
      • Council tenants living in £2m [$2.78 MM US] townhouse funded by taxpayer

NOTE: Please know that even using Duckduckgo, it was impossible to find articles that specified how violent terrorist imams (a triple redundancy) were having their broodmares and innumerable spawn housed in multimillion dollar Kensington mansions, all on the taxpayer’s tab.

More than anything, these previous articles date from 2008! Imagine just how much worse things have gotten after another ten years of this spectacularly piss-poor Socialist mismanagement (redundant, I know).

Finally, back to the lead article’s topic (hat tip – Breitbart): Exodus: California Tax Revenue Plunges by 22%

Consider the consequences of California (with its superb Mediterranean climate) attracting some 25% of this nation’s homeless population mismanagement—not to mention being a sanctuary state countless millions of illegal aliens who help drive crippling violent crime—even as it hastens the departure of its wealthiest demographic.

Remember, ranked as a separate nation, California’s current economy would be the SIXTH in this entire world. Now think of just how much wealth is fleeing the abusive taxation being imposed by this state’s budding social engineers.

      What could possibly go wrong?

      • Sigh:

Consider the consequences of California (with its superb Mediterranean climate) attracting some 25% of this nation’s entire homeless population—not to mention being a sanctuary state for countless millions of illegal aliens who help drive crippling rates of violent crime—even as its lunatic politicians hasten the departure of this money machine’s wealthiest demographic.

        Carry on…

PS: As an aside, I will refrain from detailing how, with one of America’s highest per capita income levels—not to mention one of this nation’s highest densities of billionaires—Santa Clara County (i.e., Silicon Valley) has both the greatest degree of income disparity between rich and poor, not to mention one of the VERY WORST track records for philanthropy or charitable donations.

To clarify,: Speaking as a devout Capitalist, I ardently support the right of people (who have honestly earned their wealth) to spend that money in whatever way they see fit. Full stop.

Be that as it may, for all of these nouveau riche billionaires to shamelessly cavort about in the midst of such escalating poverty—even as they do almost NOTHING to counteract the ever-expanding gap between so many +$100K salaried coders and minimum wage burger flippers (with ZERO in the way of growing an actual Middle Class)—really frosts my wiener.

        I’ll stop now…

        • California and Britain are slouching towards becoming the new Venezuela. I don’t know what Britain is going to do but California is going to expect the rest of us to bail them out.

  8. ‘Alt-right’ escalates war against Silicon Valley, pledges to expose bias against conservatives

SAN FRANCISCO — Far-right conservatives are escalating their campaign against Silicon Valley with a new series of volleys against the social media gatekeepers that control the flow of information in the digital age.

Last week, former Google engineer James Damore, who was embraced by conservatives after he was fired last year for distributing a memo that questioned whether women were biologically suited to technical roles, filed a lawsuit claiming the Internet giant discriminates against white men and conservatives. That same day, right-wing journalist-turned-entrepreneur Charles C. “Chuck” Johnson sued Twitter, alleging the company violated his right to free speech when it permanently suspended his account in 2015.

Then Project Veritas, a conservative advocacy organization that purports to expose media bias, released undercover videos of current and former Twitter employees condemning President Trump and discussing tactics the company uses to make it tougher to find the tweets of controversial users.

  9. It’s time to take our privacy back from tech companies

Your personal information is being collected, organized, purchased and sold on a global market. Polls consistently show that most people are concerned they have lost control of their own personal data. No one is immune from the pervasive information grab by governments, companies, and hackers. This is happening to pretty much anyone alive (or dead) who has ever used the internet, a credit card, gone to school, subscribed to cable television or used a cell phone. There is no escaping this new reality.

However, we can change the rules that govern the way your information is collected and used.

Absolute control of your information is no longer possible, but you can and should have a say in the matter. Think of your data or information as personal property. Companies and governments can use eminent domain or other seizure processes to take that property, but the sting eases when you realize they must afford due process and justly compensate the owner for the property taken.

    http://thehill.com/opinion/technology/369573-its-time-to-take-our-privacy-back-from-tech-companies

    • Great post, Richard.

As the French so often say: “I will provide all of you with the gift that everyone gives and nobody takes … ADVICE.”

Step 1: USE THE DUCKDUCKGO SEARCH ENGINE WHENEVER POSSIBLE and avoid using Google, Bing or Yahoo at all costs LIKE THE FARKING PLAGUE. I converted away from Google (hat tip: GoV) over the past month or three and have never looked back. Perhaps once, in all of that time, I’ve resorted to using Google but have yet to see any of these traditional platforms noticeably outperform DuckDuckGo (save, perhaps, in the image department), a price that I’m totally willing to pay.

Step 2: USE CASH. Despite whatever inconvenience or extra drain on personal time, engage in cash purchases and avoid all online transactions or credit card (even debit card) transactions wherever and whenever possible. Your credit, debit, and online transactions leave a glow-in-the-dark “electronic trail” that facilitates personal surveillance to an unimaginable extent.

Even personal checks and other common monetary instruments should be eschewed at all times. This amounts to financially going “off grid” and it is one of the only ways to obtain personal privacy.

Step 3: Avoid Skype and other VOIP applications. I realize that this seems overly paranoid, but all of these (supposedly) encrypted communication paths were, most likely, compromised within weeks days of their introduction. Think: TOR (The Onion Router) and how its decryption intercepts were most likely baked-in by government agencies from day one.

REMEMBER: It’s not a question of whether you are paranoid, it’s a matter of whether you are PARANOID ENOUGH.

      • Step 2: USE CASH.

If you can find them read Mack Reynolds SF stories from the 60s, about the “Peoples Capitalism” and how the police track people through their purchases with the Government Issue Debit Card. He also has a guaranteed annual income for everyone in a very class ridden society.

That guaranteed annual income springs to mind every time I hear the Dems talk about raising the minimum wage to some ridiculous amount. The more people they can force out of the labor market the more pressure to establish the Socialist guaranteed annual income.

Yes Mack Reynolds (full name Dallas Mack Reynolds) was a card carrying communist.

  11. China to enshrine Xi’s thought into state constitution amid national ‘fervor’

BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s ruling Communist Party will enshrine President Xi Jinping’s political thought into the country’s constitution, state media said on Friday, further solidifying his power following its addition last year to the party constitution.

The arguably more important party constitution was amended at the once-in-five-years 19th Party Congress in October to include Xi’s political thought.

The party unanimously passed an amendment then to add “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” as one of its guiding principles.

Following a two-day meeting of top officials in Beijing, the party has now proposed writing the same theory into the state constitution, state news agency Xinhua said.

The communique said Xi’s thought had generated a national “fervor” which had helped provide “great spiritual impetus” in the implementation of 19th Party Congress’s strategic policies.

  12. North Korea may hold military parade on eve of Olympics, analysts say

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea may be preparing to hold a military parade on the eve of next month’s winter Olympics in South Korea, analysts and diplomats say, even as the two countries have sought to mend ties.

The North’s continued development of nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions has spurred more sanctions and talk of possible military strikes by U. S. officials.

Western diplomats in Pyongyang have said some international defense officials received invitations to a 70th anniversary commemoration of the Korean People’s Army on Feb 8.

Recent commercial satellite imagery shows formations of North Korean troops marching at a parade training ground, said Scott LaFoy, an analyst with the website NK Pro, which monitors North Korea.

“The parade appears to involve 28 formations of infantry or other military personnel, a traditional military band, and possibly additional personnel,” LaFoy wrote in an analysis of the satellite imagery.

Some military vehicles could also be involved, he added.

What better time to reinforce Pyongyang’s national program of brainwashing than during its high-profile (i.e., product placement) at the 2018 Winter Olympics?!?

After all, what sort of gesture could possibly proclaim superpower status more emphatically than spending bazillions of dollars on a massive display of military might during the absolute, very worst period of food scarcity and fuel shortages???

Such a wintertime diversion of critical financial and—potentially lifesaving—energy resources over to a grandiose exhibition of (all-too-obviously-fragile) power represents a crime against humanity whose truly appropriate punishment would involve immobilization in close proximity to large nests of angry fire ants and forcibly dilated orifices.

  13. Rohingya refugee leaders draw up demands ahead of repatriation

KUTUPALONG, Bangladesh (Reuters) – Rohingya leaders in a Bangladesh refugee camp have drawn up a list of demands they want Myanmar to meet before authorities begin sending back hundreds of thousands in a repatriation process expected to begin next week and last for two years.

The petition is the latest indication of the challenges ahead for Bangladesh and Myanmar as they try to engineer the return of refugees who fear continued military operations in Rakhine State and are dismayed about the prospect of a prolonged stay in “temporary camps” in Myanmar when they go back.

A half-dozen Rohingya elders, saying they represented 40 villages from Rakhine, showed the list of demands to a Reuters reporter at the Kutupalong refugee camp, where most of the 655,500 Rohingya refugees are staying.

The petition, handwritten in Burmese, said none of the Muslim Rohingya would return to mainly Buddhist Myanmar unless the demands were met.

  14. China says sunken Iranian tanker may now be leaking heavy oil

BEIJING (Reuters) – A sunken Iranian oil tanker may be leaking heavy bunker fuel as well as light oil off the east coast of China and the best remedy was to recover the vessel, officials said on Friday.

It was unclear how much bunker fuel was left aboard the tanker when it sank on Sunday after being ablaze for days but experts estimated it may have been carrying about 1,000 tonnes at the time of collision.

“There have been multiple appearances of oil slicks of different sizes and types at the sinking spot and nearby… the slicks exceeded 200 sq kilometers (77 sq miles) on Thursday,” Huo Chuanlin, of the State Oceanic Administration’s Ecological Protection Department, told reporters.

It was not immediately clear where the oil could wash up or the extent of the damage it could cause.

The large tanker Sanchi (IMO:9356608) sank in the world’s worst oil ship disaster in decades. The crew of 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis are all believed to have been killed.

The tanker had been adrift and ablaze after crashing into the freighter CF Crystal (IMO:9497050) on Jan. 6. Strong winds pushed it away from the Chinese coast, where the collision happened, and into Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

  15. Something missing from report on HHS’s new Conscience and Religious Freedom watchdog
    By J.E. Dyer January 18, 2018

It wasn’t immediately clear what connection ABC was making, in this report about the new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division in the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights (OCR).

    The report starts promisingly enough:

Social conservatives and religious liberty leaders have anticipated conscience and religious freedom protections to come out of HHS, and the work of the new division, which will fall under the purview of the Office of Civil Rights, will likely pave the way for health care workers to refuse specific types of care, like birth control or abortion, based on their religious or conscience objections.

Then it quickly detours into a dead end:

Critics say the move could hurt civil rights protections for lesbian, gay and transgender people, and hurt patient care.

  16. CNN’s Ana Navarro says Trump is racist if he fails to uphold DACA, then tacks on vulgarity to describe him
By Rusty Weiss January 18, 2018

You have to love it when the mainstream media feign outrage over President Trump’s “colorful” language, then show their true colors by letting loose with one or another four-letter doozy.

Political commentator Ana Navarro, CNN’s version of a “Republican,” insisted that the only way Trump could prove he’s not a racist is by greenlighting the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

She then punctuated her point by calling him a vulgar term in Spanish.

“If @realDonaldTrump wants to try to do something to contradict the widely-held perception that he is a dark-hearted racist, there is a quick way for him to do it: exert some damn leadership and pass #DACA,” Navarro wrote on Twitter.

“Pass it now,” she added, zinging the president with the profanity “¡Coño!”

  17. Majority of Americans don’t view Trump’s still-unverified ‘sh*thole’ remark as racist
By LU Staff January 19, 2018

In the midst of an uproar by journalists, pundits, and Democratic politicians over President Donald Trump’s alleged reference to African nations as “sh*tholes,” no one bothered to ask what normal Americans thought — and it turns out many just shrugged their shoulders, according to a Tuesday poll.

A MSN poll found that 51% of respondents did not think the president’s comments were racist, while 48% percent disagreed. One percent were undecided.

Not surprisingly, a respondent’s party affiliation was the biggest predictor of how he answered. Eighty-three percent of respondents who claimed the comment was racist were Democrats, while only 10% of Republicans saw the remark that way.

While the president has denied using that specific language in his meeting with lawmakers, a number of those in the media and Washington have called him a racist for the comment. Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, one of the individuals in the room during the alleged comment, was one of the first to assert the president’s use of “sh*thole.” Some Republican attendees dispute Durbin’s account.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday, Sen. Cory Booker said he had “tears of rage” after he heard about the comment.

  19. 2 prison guards attacked in Corsica jail, 4 inmates arrested (abcnews, Jan 19, 2018)
    http://abcn.ws/2DOvgLU

“Two prison guards were attacked Friday by four inmates on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica as prison guards across the country protested working conditions, the Penitentiary Administration said.

The guards were hospitalized in serious condition and the four inmates, including one suspected of becoming radicalized, were arrested after gendarmes moved in to secure the prison, a penitentiary official said.

The attack at Borgo prison in northern Corsica was the latest by inmates on guards during the massive labor protests this week. Guards at 80 of France’s 188 prisons were taking part on Friday in blockages — ranging from work slowdowns to protests, according to the official. He asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

At least one “sharp-pointed” weapon was used in the Borgo attack, he said.

French prison guards have been demanding more security, more staff and safer handling of violent inmates.

The national union protest was launched after an Islamic radical wanted by the United States attacked three guards with a knife at a high-security prison in northern France last week.

Authorities say that attack at Vendin-le-Vieil was carried out by inmate Christian Ganczarski, a German who converted to Islam and was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his involvement in a 2002 attack on a synagogue in Tunisia that left 21 people dead.

Ganczarski, 51, is also suspected by the United States of providing critical support to Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks. He was charged Wednesday in a Manhattan federal court with conspiring to kill Americans and supporting terrorists.

In France, Ganczarski was given new preliminary charges of attempted murder following the knife attack. He was also transferred to another prison in northern France, according to Guillaume Pottier, a prison union leader.

The French Prison Administration official said aggressive actions against guards by inmates are not uncommon, with 4,000 last year. It insisted that recent aggressions this week are not linked to the guards’ protests.

In response to the wave of prison guard protests, President Emmanuel Macron on Monday ordered the government to come up with a “global penitentiary plan” by the end of February that would modernize French facilities and prison intelligence-gathering. He also suggested a “massive” shift to alternative punishment such as obligatory public service or electronic bracelets.”

    http://www.kurdistan24.net/en/news/b61d3679-115a-4f81-9775-6157892e678e

“ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Increasing its threats of staging an incursion into the region of Afrin in northwestern Syria, Turkey on Friday sent bus-loads of Free Syrian Army (FSA) militants into the town of Azaz, east of the Kurdish canton, in preparation of an imminent invasion.

The privately-owned Dogan new agency wired images and video of the Turkish-backed Islamist militants carried in at least 20 buses from the Kilis province into Syria.

Turkish army units, reinforced daily along the border, continued mortar shelling the isolated Kurdish enclave.

Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli sounded determined to proceed with plans his government long insisted on, despite objection from Washington, the Syrian Kurds’ primary military ally.

Canikli even announced a “de facto launch” of an operation aimed at Afrin.

He said comments by the US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert were “void and meaningless.”

“We would call on, certainly, the Turks not to take any action, like invading Afrin,” Heather had earlier said in response to a question from Kurdistan 24.

In Afrin though, the country hindering any invasion by Ankara was revealed to be Russia, as Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday that they could not move without “coordination” with Moscow.

Hundreds of Russian troops are deployed in several areas in the self-administered canton that is cut off from the rest of Syrian Kurdistan where the US holds a dozen bases.

Canikli appeared to be hopeful that Moscow would give consent and allow the Turkish air force to strike the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) positions from the Syrian skies.

State-owned Anadolu agency claimed that Russian troops and military police were leaving their bases in Afrin, a day after Turkish chief of general staff Hulusi Akar and spy chief Hakan Fidan visited Moscow.

No confirmation came from the Russians at the time of publishing this report, or the Kurds, who have vowed to put up stiff resistance to any Turkish incursion.

Kemal Kilicdaroglu’s opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) warned there would be a “high price” to pay if Ankara went ahead with the attack without pushing the use of diplomacy to its fullest.

“Afrin is not like al-Bab,” Kilicdaroglu said, recalling Turkey’s 2016 military intervention in a pocket of land in northern Syria, including the town of al-Bab, which saw at least 72 Turkish soldiers perish.

In al-Bab, he said, Ankara had the backing of a majority of the international community in fighting the Islamic State (IS) group. However, Afrin requires much more careful threading, Kilicdaroglu argued.”

  24. Swedish PM does not rule out use of army to end gang violence
    JANUARY 17, 2018
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Sweden will do whatever it takes, including sending in the army, to end a wave of gang violence that has seen a string of deadly shootings, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said in Wednesday.
Sweden’s murder rate is relatively low in international terms, but gang violence has surged in recent years and Swedes are worried that the police are unable to cope.

In 2016, the latest year for which official statistics are available, 106 people were murdered in Sweden, a country of 10 million. But Swedish TV reported there were over 300 shootings, mostly in turf battles between gangs over drugs, protection rackets and prostitution.

Four people were shot dead in the first week of this year. One man died after picking up a hand grenade outside a subway station in a suburb of Stockholm.

Law and order is likely to be a major issue in a parliamentary election scheduled for September with the populist, opposition Sweden Democrats linking public concern about the rising crime rate to a large increase in the numbers of immigrants.

“It would not be my first option to bring in the military, but I am prepared to do whatever is necessary to make sure that serious, organized crime is stamped out,” Lofven told news agency TT.

The government has promised police an extra 7.1 billion crowns ($880 million) through 2020, toughened laws on gun crimes and made it easier for the police to monitor private phone calls and emails, among other measures.

But a report by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention shows increasing numbers of Swedes worried about crime with confidence falling in the police and the judicial system.

“People are shot to death in pizza restaurants, people are killed by hand grenades they find on the street,” Sweden Democrat leader Jimmie Akesson said in parliament on Wednesday.

“This is the new Sweden; the new, exciting dynamic, multicultural paradise that so many here in this assembly … have fought to create for so many years,” he said sarcastically.

Perhaps the author does not recognize that dhimmi status is antisemitic: the notion inspired Europeans to mirror the practice. Who knows if the Armenian genocide likewise inspired pro-Nazi Europeans? If anything, talk about the Europeanization of Islamic antisemitism.

  25. Democrats Insist on DACA Amnesty
A government shutdown could begin tonight.
    January 19, 2018
    Matthew Vadum

Democrats’ insistence on an immediate immigration amnesty for potentially millions of young illegal aliens may shut down the federal government at midnight tonight for the first time in the Trump era.

The House vote to fund the government whose funds run out later today, came as the Trump administration sent out confusing mixed messages about its commitment to build a wall on the nation’s southern border and about the constitutionally dubious Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that Trump said in September he planned to end. At that time Trump gave Congress six months to put some kind of a legislative fix in place. At a recent televised meeting with lawmakers at the White House Trump seemed to soften his position on DACA and border security but yesterday on Twitter he reaffirmed his previous hardline positions.

Democrats want any funding legislation passed by Congress to provide legal certainty for the illegal aliens they intend to count on as future voters. Protecting DACA recipients is so important to the Left that Democrats have to “refuse to offer any votes for Republican spending bills that do not offer a fix for Dreamers and instead appropriate funds to deport them,” stated a secret strategy memo dated Jan. 8 revealed a few days ago. The document was co-authored by Center for American Progress Action Fund President Jennifer Palmieri and Executive Director Navin Nayak. Both worked for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. Palmieri was Clinton’s communications director; Nayak was her director of opinion research.

  26. Decapitated, bloodstained doll left at Amsterdam mosque

A decapitated doll was left at a mosque in Amsterdam, police said, in an Islamophobic act that has shocked the Muslim community in the Netherlands.

The head was hung by a rope from a fence above the doll’s “bloodstained body”, pictures showed, and a note was left warning against “Islamisation” in the Netherlands.

An employee of Emir Sultan Mosque found the doll as he opened the place of worship on Thursday morning, and reported it to the police.

The note on the doll, apparently referencing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said: “Islam is inextricably linked with brutal beheadings. Islamisation must stop. No to the Diyanet mega-mosque in Amsterdam-Noord (north), which is connected to dictator Erdogan.”

The Emir Sultan Mosque serves a predominately Turkish community in the north of Amsterdam.

In a statement to Dutch media, the Emir Sultan Islamic Foundation called it a “cowardly and disgusting act”.

“Of course we are shocked and condemn this cowardly attack, but we do not let ourselves be intimidated and played against each other,” the statement said.

“We will continue to profile ourselves as part of society and continue to work for the preservation of peace and solidarity in Amsterdam-Noord. We request everyone to keep their cool and wait for the police investigation,” it added.

Kamber Sener, president of the mosque, wrote on Facebook, asking the community “not to worry about this incident”.

“I hope they will find the perpetrators as soon as they can,” he wrote, asking for the city to unite against such acts.

The act was claimed via Twitter by a right-wing group calling itself Rechts in Verzet, or Right in Opposition.

    https://twitter.com/rechtsinverzet

The group tweeted photos of the doll and the note to several Dutch news organisations, adding in the tweet: “Beheading! No mega mosque in Amsterdam-Noord. Protest.”

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DTysg0mWkAI2mkU.jpg

The person running the Twitter account was also under investigation, Amsterdam’s local TV channel AT5 reported.

The protest group had previously criticised the arrival of a mega-mosque in Amsterdam-Noord.

  27. For Real ‘Collusion,’ Look At Obama’s Dirty Dealings With Iran
Obama’s scheming with the Mullahs reveals a troubling pattern.
    January 19, 2018
    Ari Lieberman

By now it should be readily apparent to all, even those afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome, that the Trump-Russia collusion narrative is a spent force or as leftist political commentator Van Jones put it, “a big nothingburger.” Nearly a year has passed since the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller and not a scintilla of evidence demonstrating collusion has been forthcoming. Moreover, the investigation itself has been plagued by scandal and partisanship placing a cloud of taint over the entire inquiry. Nevertheless, Mueller’s Russia probe will continue to putter along and after wasting millions of taxpayer dollars (as of December 2017, the cost has reportedly reached a staggering $7 million) the former G-Man will get a trickle of indictments and plea bargains on peripheral figures for matters wholly unrelated to the original investigation. Democrats will then pat themselves on the back and Mueller will go back to obscurity.

Democrats and their allies in the establishment media have cleverly succeeded in temporarily deflecting America’s attention away from the real collusion story, one with real substance and far greater ramifications. A persuasive case can be made that former president Barack Obama colluded with a sworn enemy of the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran. With each passing day, another disquieting facet of the Obama administration’s dealings with the Islamic Republic is revealed and when taken in totality, paints a disturbing picture of the administration’s underhanded efforts to placate and appease the mullahs and their proxies, including Hezbollah.

  29. Why Ben Shapiro is Wrong About Needing Political Elites
    January 19, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

Does America need “political elites”? Ben Shapiro says, we do.

As consumers, we tend to pick experts for jobs, from established brands. In our politicians, we do the opposite. That makes fringy mediocrity a calling card.

Enough is enough. I’m a Tea Partier down to the bone — I want power out of Washington, D.C. and the federal government slashed down to minimal size. But I agree with the founders that we need elites — people who are better than we are at the business of politics — in the business of politics. By all means, oppose elitism. But we must stop conflating elitism with being elite. You wouldn’t want a non-elite plumber. You shouldn’t want a non-elite politician.

I’m anti-establishment, too — I don’t think that Republicans who are interested in cutting bipartisan deals for the sake of “making government run” are doing us any service. But if by establishment, we just mean “people who have worked in D.C. for awhile” or “people who know how to write a bill,” that’s not disqualifying. Those should be basic job prerequisites. Incompetence can defeat conservatism just as surely as malice.

Politics is about more than attitude. It’s about the people electing the best people to be representatives. That’s what separates republican government from democratic government.

The Founders wanted elites. They didn’t want political elites.

Richard: Political elites are an evil we can’t afford anymore, throughout most of the 20th Century we had political elites running the country and in the long run creating the current mess. Political Elites end up believing their own propaganda and deciding they are the only people who are capable of deciding what is best for not only the nations but also what is best for the individual citizens. They believe they are capable of being fair to people who disagrees with them, as the current batch of political elites in DC show they think anyone who disagrees with them are evil and must be destroyed.

Could Saudi Arabia’s Glasnost contribute to peace between Israel and moderate Arab states?
    January 19, 2018
    Joseph Puder

News from the Middle East is generally depressing. In Turkey, the Erdogan dictatorship is eliminating all vestiges of free press, after it subverted the old Kemal Ataturk secular institutions including the judiciary and military. Iran’s Islamic Republic dictatorship of the Ayatollahs is repressing its people, and the minority populations (Kurds, Baluch, and Ahwazi Arabs) in particular. It has squandered a $150 billion gift from the Obama administration on foreign adventures (in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq) and on terror sponsorships. Leaving Israel out of the picture, the only bright spot in the region is the positive reforms enacted by the young Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman. The 32-year old prince has assumed full executive powers and is effectively running the kingdom.

The Wall Street Journal (January 10, 2018) headlined a story with “Saudis Target Religious Extremism.” The subtitle of the story reads: “Crown Prince spearheads effort to embrace a more tolerant Islam; female drivers and music.” Considering the past rigidity of the monarchy with its Sunni-Muslim Wahhabi-creed, the recent liberalizing actions by the crown prince are astounding. According to the WSJ, Mohammed bin Salman’s social liberalization is “a vital part of his radical economic modernization plan, and has vowed to return his country to a more tolerant form of Islam.”

  34. TEACHERS IN VIENNA: IT´S ENOUGH, IT CAN NOT GO ON LIKE THIS:
    17.01.2018 14:49

“The student yanked me down to the floor by my hair”

“It’s enough, it can not go on like this”, declared the teacher’s trade unionist Romana Deckenbacher during a conversation with the “Krone” in a café in Vienna-Währing.

With her she has a folder full of dozens of cases collected by the FCG staff representatives from the schools of Vienna. The pages of documents covered front to back -full of reports of daily violence.

“I just talked to one of the teachers involved: she just can not manage to talk directly to you about the incident,” the unionist says. This pedagogue, who wants to remain anonymous, only a few months ago was the victim of a violence in a classroom. Romana Deckenbacher reports: “The teacher told me this way: ‘A boy got angry, suddenly the student pulled me by the hair.'”
    >>Police know “unofficially” of 1600 criminal charges<>More sexual attacks against Viennese teachers<<

In general, the assault from fathers on female teachers have increased. Here is a quote from the report: "The two students as well as one of the fathers are behaving sexist towards teachers." Physical "touches" (groping) happen in passing if they feel unobserved, but we aren't able to talk about it because it could be interpreted as racist, and the students are outed … "

The educators also speak openly about their frustration: "Students who attack their teachers, do not have to worry much anyway." After three days of being expelled from school the return to the same class. " Without immediate countermeasures, the situation will accelerate very rapidly: According to a forecast by the MA 23 (chart below), the number of compulsory school students in Vienna will rise from 171,110 to 190,826 in the next six years – that is an increase of almost 20,000 students.

    http://www.krone.at/1616179

    • The strong increase in violence at Vienna’s compulsory schools should no longer be repressed, warn the teachers and quote from their documentation of the most violent incidents:

“The student was angry, and slammed the blackboard shut with both hands, my hand was in between, two fingers broken.”

“There was a commotion during my custody, I tried to intervene and was attacked myself, now I’m being accused of assaulting a student.”

“A gym teacher put a boy on the edge of the gym because of improper behavior in the classroom, who phoned his father, who then beat up the teacher.”

      • Police know “unofficially” of 1600 criminal charges
In the previous year 1600 criminal charges had already been filed for violence against Vienna’s schools, the staff representatives know: “We only reached this number via unofficial channels. There are several reasons for this: Firstly, school directors fear that the school’s reputation suffers from becoming aware of the incidents, and secondly, the politicians are not very interested in researching the causes or making the origin of the young suspects known.

      • I went to school in the 70s-80s in the U.S. and this wasn’t “the norm” back then – so the deterioration of the class room environment to this point (cameras, police, metal detectors) over the decades hasn’t been keeping the same pace here in Europe.

However, when you suddenly massively import people from the 3rd world as the globalist managers of Europe did to make up for lost time -in turning European society into a Orwellian dystopia – they look forward to implementing all the above mentioned measures to ensure “safety”.

Before 2015, it wasn’t really a necessity but now we live in a new reality.

  35. California’s Wealth Gap Worse Than THESE Banana Republics

California’s income inequality has gotten so severe that its “wealth gap” is even worse than developing nations, like Mexico and Guatemala.

Comparing data from the US Census Bureau and the World Bank shows that, if California were an independent country, it would rank as the 17th most unequal nation on earth. Its wealth gap, when compared to other countries, is roughly on par with Honduras and has significantly more in common with noteworthy banana republics than Scandanavia’s social democracies.

Despite having one of the largest, most overbearing welfare states in the country, California’s divide between rich and poor has continued to grow in recent years – fueled by an exorbitant cost of living, high taxes, and a middle class that’s bolted for the exits.

California’s poverty rate is the highest in the nation, too – at 20.6 percent.

Things have gotten so dire in California that some of the state’s rural, more conservative counties – that, for years, have been railing against crippling environmental policies imposed by liberal elites – have launched a bid to split into a seperate state, called “New California.”

  36. ‘Is it sperm or lollipops?’ Parisians don’t seem to want new Jeff Koons sculpture

A Jeff Koons sculpture given to Paris by the US artist himself in homage to the victims of the 2015 jihadist terror attacks is set to be installed in the city in the next few days. But no one in Paris appears to want it.

The French capital is a city which has a history of appreciating avant-garde art.

But apparently, “Bouquet of Tulips” by Jeff Koons, made of 33 tons of bronze and aluminium and standing 12-metres-high, hasn’t quite hit the mark for Parisians.

The work, said to represent a huge hand, holding eleven colorful tulips, is set to be installed in Paris in between hip Parisian gallery Palais de Tokyo and the city’s modern art museum in the upmarket 16th arrondissement in the next few days.

But as the artwork gets set to take up residence in one of the poshest neighbourhoods in town, it’s seems unlikely the city will be welcoming the monumental sculpture with open arms.

“It’s a kind of weird balloon … I do not find it very pretty,” one person told Europe 1 summing up the ambivalence towards it.

Another person questioned what exactly the artwork was meant to represent.

“What is it? Giant lollipops? Sperm?” a local resident asked.

One Parisian gallery owner Stéphane Corréard has even set up a petition to stop the project going ahead.

“Today, an artist like Jeff Koons is a multinational corporation. Not art-house at all. Here, we are in a place of art,” he said.

“The Palais de Tokyo is dedicated to young artists, emerging art, to the French scene,” he added. “To install this kind of work in this kind of place is to give an absolutely gigantic advertising opportunity in exchange for nothing.”

The sculpture cost some €3 million ($3.2 million) to make and received financing from private donors in the United States and France.

Koons said it was designed as an offering in memory of the victims and as a symbol of optimism, in an effort to help Paris overcome the tragedy that struck the French capital on November 13 last year.

In a string of coordinated attacks by Islamic State group jihadists that shocked the world, 130 people were killed that day.

Koons, who is known for toying with objects from popular culture, said the hand holding the tulips in his massive sculpture is intended to mimic the Statue of Liberty grasping its torch.

At least the Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo was positive about the sculpture.

“The fact that this great artist has decided to offer to the city of Paris… a monumental artwork is a symbol of generosity and sharing, and shows our capital’s ties with the United States are unbreakable,” Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said when the gift was announced in 2016.

  37. Google says it is discontinuing its fact-check feature because it proved to be too faulty for public use, directly attributing the decision to an investigation by The Daily Caller News Foundation. The company has no date set for when it will return, if ever.

“We launched the reviewed claims feature at the end of last year as an experiment with the aim of helping people quickly learn more about news publications,” a spokeswoman for Google told TheDCNF, while also adding that TheDCNF was the catalyst for the recent move. “We said previously that we encountered challenges in our systems that maps fact checks to publishers, and on further examination it’s clear that we are unable to deliver the quality we’d like for users.”

  38. A former Secret Service agent who worked under Obama has declared that the details contained within the reportedly shocking classified FISA abuse memo will completely rewrite the legacy of the former President.

The memo is circulating on Capitol Hill, and is described by those who have seen it as so devastating that it could end special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe instantaneously.

In essence, the memo names and shames those who have sought to deliberately undermine and obstruct Trump’s Presidency, by using underhanded and possibly even illegal tactics.

Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino has intimated that one of those individuals is Barack Obama.
