  3. Iran protests: ‘Iron fist’ threatened if unrest continues (BBC, Dec 31, 2017)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-42525889

“Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned anti-government protesters they will face the nation’s “iron fist” if political unrest continues.

Three days of demonstrations erupted over falling living standards.

But a Revolutionary Guards commander said the protests had degenerated into people chanting political slogans and burning public property.

They are the biggest show of dissent since huge pro-reform rallies in 2009. There are reports of two deaths.

There were calls for the removal or death of Iran’s Supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the cities of Khoramabad, Zanjan and Ahvaz.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutions Guards Corp is a powerful force with ties to the country’s supreme leader, and is dedicated to preserving the country’s Islamic system.

Brigadier-General Esmail Kowsari told the ISNA news agency: “If people came into the streets over high prices, they should not have chanted those slogans and burned public property and cars.”

Iran’s interior minister has also warned the public to avoid “illegal gatherings”…”

    • Standard of living or being stripped of all human rights? The only time you get protests like this over the standard of living is when the people are forced to go thru the garbage of the elite to find food. Granted being forced to move back to the 7th and 8th Centuries does greatly reduce the standard of living but that move is enforced by the stripping everyone of their human rights. Even Dimmihs like the BBC should know this, or is it that they think we are too dumb to know what is really going on.

No one immediately claimed the attack. The Taliban and an Islamic State affiliate are both active in Nangarhar and routinely target security forces and local officials.

Elsewhere in Afghanistan, a sticky bomb exploded in a crowded neighborhood in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif late Saturday, wounding 12 people, according to Gen. Abdul Raziq Qaderi, the deputy provincial police chief.

“I have to have more human surveillance. It’s costing hundreds of millions of pounds. If they [internet firms] continue to be less than cooperative, we should look at things like tax as a way of incentivizing them or compensating for their inaction,” Wallace pointed out.

He explained that the government “should look at all options,” including taxation, because hefty sum are spent on people’s de-radicalization and because “content is not taken down as quickly as they [web companies] could do.”

Wallace also noted that despite these companies’ determination to grapple with child abuse online, they “don’t seem to be making the same effort” against extremism…”

  14. South Korea seizes second ship suspected of providing oil to North Korea

South Korean authorities have seized a Panama-flagged vessel suspected of transferring oil products to North Korea in violation of international sanctions, a customs official said on Sunday.

The seizure was the second to be revealed by South Korea within a few days, as the United Nations steps up efforts to squeeze essential oil supplies to the reclusive North following its nuclear or ballistic missile tests.

The ship, KOTI, was seized at Pyeongtaek-Dangjin port, the official told Reuters, without elaborating, due to the sensitivity of the issue. The port is on the west coast, south of Incheon.

They showed demonstrations in Mashhad, Isfahan and many smaller cities but travel restrictions and limited coverage by official media made it difficult to confirm reports.

State media began to show footage of the protests on Sunday, focusing on attacks by young men against banks and vehicles, an attack on a town hall in Tehran, and images of a man burning the Iranian flag.

  18. China’s Historical Hesitancy to Crack Down on North Korea

    December 29, 2018

Washington, D.C.- Emerald Robinson, Political Correspondent

As President Trump calls out China once again for potentially violating U.N. sanctions by providing oil to North Korea, satellite imaging suggests that the rogue regime is preparing for another ballistic missile test. Though China has been more compliant with sanctions on North Korea under the new administration, historically the country has been hesitant to act against it’s troublesome neighbor.

Brigham McCown, CEO of Nouveau Consulting and a former Navy officer once responsible for overseeing air warfare strategy on the Korean Peninsula, says there are several reasons for this hesitancy. First, McCown says that the larger country enjoys having it’s smaller neighbor as a buffer state between itself and a U.S. presence. As an ally to America, South Korea’s goal has long been reunification with the North. According to McCown, that something the Chinese are not so warm on. “They don’t want an American presence on their doorstep,” added McCown.

McCown says that the Chinese perspective remains that a unified Korea is not in the best interest of China. Neither is it in the interest of Russia either says McCown. The two separate states are a leftover from the ending of World War II in the Pacific where the Korea’s were divided along the 38th parallel.

  19. The only thing ‘saving the Left from Trump’ is self-delusion
By Howard Portnoy December 30, 2017

A pathetic year-end moratorium by Washington Post veteran Ruth Marcus sounds “a note of holiday cheer” for liberals “as this appalling year limps to a close.” It takes a special kind of person to view a year in which the stock market reached record highs and ISIS was chased out of 98% of the territory it once occupied as appalling, but let’s chalk that up to a difference of opinion.

Ditto for what Marcus considers to be the three bright spots in an otherwise bleak year: “the media, the courts and, yes, even the Republican-dominated Congress.”

  24. BREITBART – ‘Small Arsenal of Guns’ Found in Top-Floor Texas Hotel Room Hours Before New Year’s Celebration, Say Police

HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police found a “small arsenal” of guns in a top-floor hotel room just hours before a scheduled New Year’s Eve celebration. The hotel is an open-atrium design that could allow a shooter to fire upon the celebrating crowd.

Just hours before a massive New Year’s Eve celebration at the Houston Hyatt Regency Hotel, an off-duty Houston police officer working security for the hotel encountered an allegedly intoxicated man who acted “erratically and belligerent,” KTRK ABC13 reported.

After having difficulty subduing the man, the officer called for “urgent backup.” The call went out at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Responding officers found “a small arsenal of guns” in his top-floor hotel room, Click2Houston reported. The officers called investigators to the scene.

The detectives discovered more weapons in his vehicle.

The Hyatt Regency, located in downtown Houston, is a traditional New Year’s Eve hotspot for the Bayou City. The open-atrium hotel is staged to drop more than 5,000 ballons on partiers as the clock strikes midnight — signaling the arrival of 2018.

The open-atrium design of the hotel could allow the man a sniper-like position from the hallway of the top floor.

Police arrested the man on charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing, KHOU CBS11 reported.

The suspect allegedly had ammunition in his room in addition to several firearms.

Hours later, a tow truck could be seen removing a white Chevrolet pickup truck from the hotel’s garage.

Canada Friday Sermon about Jerusalem by Jamal Taleb: We Will Not Achieve Dignity through Negotiations; What Was Taken by Force Will Be Restored by Force Alone
Sheikh Jamal Taleb, Imam of the Islamic Centre of SW Ontario in London, Ontario (ICSWO), said that Arab dignity would not be achieved through negotiations or by running to the “Black House” or to Moscow. Citing Gamal Abdel Nasser, he said: “Whatever was taken by force will be restored by force alone.”

In a Friday sermon at the ICSWO on December 15, a week after Trump’s Jerusalem declaration, Taleb complained that instead of saying “Palestine and noble Jerusalem as its capital,” we now say “Palestine and East Jerusalem as its capital… because this is what our masters told us.” The Lebanese-born Imam Taleb has been serving the London Muslim community since 2001 and is a member of the Canadian Council of Imams.

    • The only thing I disagree with is about Trumps intelligence, he is a lot more intelligent then people think, this underestimating of his intelligence is one of his big advantages in dealing with the left.

  28. zero hedge – California Prosecutes Man For Posting Anti-Muslim Messages On Facebook

California has leveled misdemeanor charges against 41-year-old Mark Feigin after he sent five anti-Muslim posts to the Islamic Center of Southern California’s (ICSC) Facebook page in 2016.

The California Attorney General’s office argues that his comments constituted “repeated contact by means of an electronic communication device” with “intent to annoy or harass,” a misdemeanor under California law, Reason.com reported Friday. California courts are scheduled to begin the trial Jan. 2, according to court records. Feigin admitted in October 2016 that he wrote the following comments between Sept. 17 and 25 of the same year.

“THE TERROR HIKE … SOUNDS LIKE FUN” (In reference to the Center’s advertised “Sunset Hike”)
“THE MORE MUSLIMS WE ALLOW INTO AMERICA THE MORE TERROR WE WILL SEE.”
“PRACTICING ISLAM CAN SLOW OR EVEN REVERSE THE PROCESS OF HUMAN EVOLUTION.”
“Islam is dangerous – fact: the more muslim savages we allow into america – the more terror we will see -this is a fact which is undeniable.”
“Filthy muslim shit has no place in western civilization.”

ICSC Communications Coordinator Kristin Stangas blocked Feigin soon after he made the final post, but also kept copies of the comments to pursue legal action. The Los Angeles Police Department arrested Feigin Oct. 19 and interviewed him. Feigin is now arguing that his charges should be dismissed because they are based on an unconstitutional application of the law.

Specifically, Cal. Penal Code § 653m(b) states that “every person who, with intent to annoy or harass, makes repeated telephone calls or makes repeated contact by means of an electronic communication device … to another person is … guilty of a misdemeanor. Nothing in this subdivision shall apply to telephone calls or electronic contacts made in good faith or during the ordinary course and scope of business.”

The AG’s office argues that Facebook comments are not legally different from telephone calls in this circumstance, and that Feigin’s intent was clearly to “annoy or harass,” making his actions illegal.

  29. Justice Dept. Officials Gave Hillary More Than $416K

Contributions to President Donald Trump were paltry by comparison…

(Mark Tapscott, Lifezette) More than 2,600 individual contributions collectively worth in excess of $416,000 were made to 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton by persons who listed the Department of Justice (DOJ) as their employer, according to federal campaign data compiled by opensecrets.org.

Contributions to President Donald Trump were paltry by comparison, coming from only 61 individuals listing DOJ as their employer and making 54 donations collectively worth $20,252. All of the data covered the election cycle from Jan. 1, 2015, through the 2016 election on November 8.

Forty-one of the Clinton donors gave the maximum allowable amount of $2,700 for the general election. None of the Trump donors gave the maximum amount; the largest single amount he received was $1,000.

This spring, a controversial course titled “The Problem of Whiteness” will once again be offered at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The African Cultural Studies course seeks to teach students to “understand how whiteness is socially constructed and experienced in order to help dismantle white supremacy,” according to its online description.

When the course debuted during the spring 2017 semester, it prompted national headlines and much controversy, with some Republican lawmakers even calling for the course to be canceled.

The class this spring may touch on that, based on the fact that its professor created a montage of headlines criticizing the course as its new syllabus cover sheet, its online description shows.
