“MARTIN Schulz has been named the “loser of the year 2017”, according to a new German survey, as the country’s political chaos continues to spiral.

The CSU (Christian Social Union) boss Horst Seehofer and Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader Angela Merkel came in second and third behind the leader of the Social Democrats (SPD).

Mr Schulz led his party to its worst election result since World War Two, despite initially securing support for his party.

The survey revealed 67 per cent of respondents named Mr Schulz as a “loser”, while 61 per cent did the same for Mr Seehofer and 53 per cent for Mrs Merkel…”

“AT LEAST 10 people were killed, including two police officers, as gunmen tried to storm a church in Cairo during morning prayers.

One attacker opened fire outside the Church of Great Martyr Mina in al-Maasara district in Helwan, before being shot dead by police.

An unverified image published by local media showed a bearded man wearing a bulky ammunition vest sprawled on a street.

Reports suggest a second militant involved in the attack managed to escape.

Security forces have closed off the area around the Coptic church in the hunt for the second assailant.

A further five security guards were injured in the shocking rampage, according to the state-run news agency MENA.

Cairo’s security chief Khaled Abdel Al and a number of security officials have headed to the scene of the attack.

Loud sirens were heard in central Cairo as the incident was first reported at around 11am local time (9am UK time).

Egypt’s Coptic Christians make up about 10 percent of the country’s 93 million people.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but ISIS terrorists have killed dozens of Christians across Egypt over the past year.

  4. ‘Accept the Will of the People on Migration, Culture, or Hit the Road’: Orbán Tells Europe’s Leaders (breitbart, Dec 29, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/12/29/orban-europeans-are-asserting-their-will-embracing-conservatism-and-rejecting-the-soros-plan/

“Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Europeans are “asserting their will” by supporting leaders who reject mass migration and support Christian foundations, and gave a warning to politicians who deny the “natural order of democracy”.

The conservative Fidesz party leader told Kossuth Radio’s listeners that 2.3 million Hungarians took part in the national consultation against the George Soros-backed pro-mass migration plan, and Mr. Orbán now intends to spend the next few months convincing his opponents that Europe is right to protect her borders and her culture.

Asked by the 180 Minutes host what made him think that after two years, since the migrant crisis, progressive leaders would listen now, Mr. Orbán said: “Because in the meantime elections are being held in Europe.”

Those who argue for a “mixed population” and to “abolish societies based on national and Christian foundations” in favour of living in multicultural societies “are continually losing ground in national elections”, he observed.

“European people… will assert their will. Look at the elections that have been held in Europe over the last few months. And I think that this process will intensify.

“So we must hold out until Western Europeans follow the Central Europeans by becoming strong enough to use their democratic institutions, their elections, to force their leaders to pursue a policy which people favour and support a policy which rejects immigration,” said the prime minister…”

“Migrants of different ethnicities are forming enclaves within asylum homes and the level of inter-ethnic violence is on the rise as some African migrants claim to be treated as “like dirt” by Arab asylum seekers.

The southern German town of Lörrach has seen an escalation of violent behaviour by groups of migrants from different backgrounds and is part of a broader trend of migrant on migrant violence, Die Welt reports.

The German Association of Cities recently sounded an alarm regarding young migrant men who have been causing problems in cities across the country saying: “In some German cities, there are problems with a small number of unaccompanied minor refugees who repeatedly come into conflict with the law.”

The German Federal Criminal Police Office has specifically singled out migrants from North and West Africa claiming they are especially more crime-prone than other migrants…”

“Two men have been charged with terror offenses after police raided five properties earlier this month and arrested four on suspicion of plotting a Christmas terror attack.

Farhad Salah, 22, from Sheffield and a 31-year-old man from Chesterfield have been charged with ‘Engaging in the preparation of an act of terrorism’ and will appear before Westminster Magistrates on Friday.

  7. Tougher jail terms on the way for terrorists: Ministers extend scheme that allows the public to challenge soft sentences (dailymail, Dec 29, 2017)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5219585/Public-challenge-lenient-prison-terms-terrorists.html

“Convicted terrorists will face tougher prison terms after the Government announced a shake-up of sentencing.

Ministers are extending a measure which allows the public to ask the Attorney General to examine soft jail terms.

The Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme is reserved for certain types of cases, including murder, rape, robbery and the most serious terror offences.

But now nine further terror-related crimes are being added to the scheme, which allows the public to challenge sentences handed out by the courts.

It means that individuals found guilty of crimes such as tipping off terrorists about an investigation, or flouting Terror Prevention and Investigation Measures (T-Pims) or could see their sentences increased if victims think the punishment is too light.

Ministers have acted to ensure sentences reflect the devastating impact terrorism has on victims and communities.

Justice Minister Dominic Raab said: ‘These changes will strengthen our ability to punish and deter those who tip off individuals involved in terrorism, and reinforce the conditions imposed by the authorities on individuals subject to monitoring, supervision or control.’…”

    • Most raghead terrorists hope to die in their adventures. I doubt extended sentences will deter a rabid raghead fucktard.

“Iraqi sources accused members of the pro-government Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) and local officials of smuggling oil from fields south of the city of Mosul.

The media department of the Association of Muslim Scholars yesterday quoted an unnamed Iraqi security source official as saying that “the residents of the Qayyarah area, south of Mosul, complain about toxic gas emissions from the oil fields at a time when the PMF militia and officials steal and smuggle crude oil from the nearby fields.”

He pointed out that smuggling operations are carried out using oil tankers bearing Iraqi number plates with the knowledge of the authorities.

According to the media department, the pro-government militias stormed the city and took control of the oil fields under the pretext of fighting Daesh.”

“Turkish police detained 75 suspected Islamic State members in two operations on Friday, state media and police said, after arresting about 120 such suspects across Turkey a day earlier, tightening security ahead of the New Year.

Some 500 police officers took part in simultaneous raids across Ankara, and many of those detained were foreign nationals, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

It said prosecutors in the Turkish capital issued arrest warrants for 46 people and had so far detained 29 of them. Materials seized in the raids indicated some of the suspects had made preparations for an attack over New Year, it added.

Separately, police raided 25 different addresses in Istanbul on Friday and detained 46 suspected members of Islamic State, 43 of whom were foreigners, a police statement said. The suspects were involved in smuggling and theft for the group, it said…”

  10. Apple apologizes for iPhone slowdowns and offers $29 battery replacements

Apple apologizes for iPhone slowdowns, reduces price of battery replacements
    15 Hours Ago | 01:55

Apple released a statement Thursday addressing the company’s controversial decision to slow down older phones to protect battery stability.

“We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize. There’s been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some changes we’re making. First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that.”

The tech giant said it is slashing $50 off the out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement for the next year, bringing the cost down to $29 for anyone with an iPhone 6 starting in late January. A new software update will also arrive early next year giving users more insight into battery life.

  11. Apple will offer discounts on replacement batteries, following lawsuits over iPhone slowdowns

Apple apologized to customers Thursday for not being clear that the company slows down phones with aging batteries. Apple promised that it will “give users more visibility into the health of their iPhone’s battery” and let people see whether their battery’s age affects their phone’s performance.

Apple is offering a discount on battery replacements to anyone with an iPhone 6 or later, the company said in a statement. A battery replacement will cost $29 instead of $79 starting in late January. The cheaper price is more in line with third-party repair shops.

While Apple’s message was apologetic, it still rejected allegations that the company slowed down phones with older batteries as a way to push people into buying new phones. “First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades,” Apple said.

EUROSCEPTIC parties across the continent will keep gaining momentum in 2018, a report by Tony Blair’s think-tank predicts.

The report, commissioned by the ex-Prime Minister, points to the rise of anti-EU parties in Italy, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Mr Blair’s Institute for Global Change said populism could become the “new normal” in Europe and “transform public policy in radical ways”.

Research found the share of the vote taken by populist parties has almost trebled since 2000, rising from 8.5 percent to 24.1 percent.

  14. Seoul seizes Hong Kong-registered tanker ‘used to secretly sell oil to North Korea at sea’

South Korean authorities seized a Hong Kong tanker after it was found to have secretly transferred 600 tons of refined petroleum to a North Korean vessel in international waters in October, in a brazen breach of UN sanctions.

Acting on intelligence provided by the US – including surveillance photos of an exchange taken by satellite – South Korean customs officials boarded the vessel, the Lighthouse Winmore, when it entered Yeosu Port on November 24, Yonhap news reported.

The investigation has so far determined that the ship was chartered by a Taiwanese company, Billions Bunker Group, and had initially docked in Yeosu Port on October 11 to take on a cargo of Japanese refined petroleum before going on to its final declared destination of Taiwan four days later.

    • China Denies Alleged N. Korea Oil Sales

      OAN Newsroom

China sends it’s response to President Trump after he called out the country for continuing to trade with North Korea.

Despite photographic evidence, China is denying recent reports that it’s continuing to trade with the regime.

Satellite images released by the U.S. Treasury Department on Thursday shows a Chinese vessel allegedly selling oil to the isolated dictatorship.

While Beijing didn’t directly deny the authenticity of the photos, a foreign ministry spokeswoman said the government would never have allowed the transaction to take place.

      • After Trump criticism, China denies selling oil illicitly to North Korea

BEIJING/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – China on Friday denied reports it had been illicitly selling oil products to North Korea in violation of U.N. sanctions, after U.S. President Donald Trump said he was not happy that China had allowed oil to reach the isolated nation.

Trump said on Twitter on Thursday that China had been “caught RED HANDED” allowing oil into North Korea and that would prevent “a friendly solution” to the crisis over Pyongyang’s development of nuclear-tipped missiles capable of hitting the United States.

In a subsequent New York Times interview, Trump explicitly tied his administration’s trade policy with China, North Korea’s neighbor and lone major ally, to cooperation in resolving the North Korea standoff.

“I have been soft on China because the only thing more important to me than trade is war,” he said. “If they’re helping me with North Korea, I can look at trade a little bit differently, at least for a period of time. And that’s what I’ve been doing. But when oil is going in, I’m not happy about that.”

South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo newspaper this week quoted South Korean government sources as saying that U.S. spy satellites had detected Chinese ships transferring oil to North Korean vessels about 30 times since October.

  15. China Offers Tax Incentives to Persuade U.S. Companies to Stay

BEIJING — China said on Thursday that it would temporarily exempt foreign companies from paying tax on their earnings, a bid to keep American businesses from taking their profits out of China following Washington’s overhaul of the United States tax code.

There is, however, a catch: To be eligible, foreign companies must invest those earnings in sectors encouraged by China’s government — including railways, mining, technology and agriculture — according to a statement from the Finance Ministry. The measure is retroactive from Jan. 1 this year, the ministry said.

The move would “promote the growth of foreign investment, improve the quality of foreign investment and encourage overseas investors to continuously expand their investment in China,” the ministry said. It did not elaborate.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/28/business/tax-bill-china.html

    • Yesterday when I was checking out the past posts on the Youtube Channel China Uncensored I found several reports on how the rich Chinese are smuggling money out of China into of China and into western countries. The change in US Tax Policy gives the US companies a massive incentive to move their profits back to the US, actually to take payment in the US or someplace outside of China, which hurts China. Every since China opened up they have had the problem of rich Chinese moving money into the west and sending some close family member to the west to get educated and remaining in the west to watch over the family money. This along with the perpetual bad debt crisis in their banks has greatly weakened their economy and places them at massive risk anything there is an economic crisis anywhere in the world. This is what previous Presidents have ignored in their dealings with China, the US has the upper hand, if we stop importing they collapse. If one major Western nation stops importing they collapse.

  16. Keep calm and be average: China’s unambitious millennials

While their country’s leader has encouraged citizens to work harder and dream big, some Chinese millennials are declaring their allegiance to the art of being average.

Nicknamed “Buddhist Youth”, these young people have embraced a laissez-faire approach to life which has more to do with being chilled out than reading sutras.

“Life is quite tiring,” said 23-year-old Guo Jia, who believes being a Buddhist Youth means “accepting the things you cannot change and going with the flow”.

As a viral Chinese social media post outlined this month, behaviours associated with the largely irreligious Buddhist Youth include eating the same food every day, allowing one’s romantic partner to make all the decisions and being devoid of strong feelings about virtually everything.

They are the latest in a string of subcultures to achieve online fame in China — with labels like “greasy uncles”, a type of pompous yet slovenly middle-aged man, to “cultured youth”, the Chinese equivalent of a hipster.

Some of these labels have been condemned by authorities, but Buddhist Youth have been greeted — appropriately — with indifference.

  17. UK considers ‘drunk tanks’ to ease strain on health services

LONDON (AP) — British health officials are considering turning to so-called drunk tanks to ease the strain on emergency rooms and ambulance services caused by heavy drinkers.

NHS England said Friday that researchers are looking at whether Alcohol Intoxication Management Services, commonly known as drunk tanks, may be rolled out on a national level. They are already used in some cities.

NHS England chief Simon Stevens says heavy drinking is diverting resources needed by sick people.

“NHS doesn’t stand for ‘National Hangover Service,'” he said.

He says it is wrong for health workers to devote precious time to people who “just need somewhere to safely sleep it off.”

Officials estimate that 12 percent to 15 percent of emergency room visits are due to acute alcohol intoxication, with figures much higher on weekend nights.

PHOENIX — Ambitious Republicans anxious for a shot at a U.S. Senate seat have begun quietly jockeying to be appointed as the successor to Sen. John McCain (R), even as he battles an aggressive form of brain cancer.

The lobbying campaigns, described to The Hill by half a dozen GOP strategists and aides, have angered many Republicans, who see any public chatter as disrespectful to a senator who has helped shape modern Arizona.

Chief among those upset is the man who would make an appointment, Gov. Doug Ducey (R), who issued a brushback pitch during a radio appearance last week.

    • We are witnessing the return of gunboat diplomacy and possibly the return of the European Colonies. Granted Europe will have to first remove the invaders but that will be done, I refuse to believe that Europe will give up and commit suicide.

        • Coups are one possible future, civil wars are another. The least probable one is for the election of governments that will defend their countries and cultures.

    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201712291060413394-turkey-constantinople-patriarch-gulen-cia/

“ATHENS (Sputnik) – The Turkish security services suspect Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew of having ties with the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, accused by Ankara of masterminding the 2016 failed coup attempt, media reported Friday.

According to the Greek Epikaira magazine, Turkish media launched an information campaign claiming that the Patriarch was allegedly informed about the prepared coup ahead of its beginning, which allowed him to leave the country just three hours before the escalation.

The media outlet pointed out that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suspected the Patriarch of Constantinople of friendship with Gulen, and that officers from the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) were spying on the Patriarch.

The magazine added that the secret services of the United States and of one more country had warned the Patriarch of Constantinople about threats to his life.

On July 15, 2016, a military coup attempt took place in Turkey. It was suppressed the following day, but left over 240 people dead and an estimated 2,000 wounded. After Turkey faced the attempted military takeover a year ago, Ankara accused Gulen, who has been living in the United States since 1999, and his followers of playing a key role in the coup attempt. 26. It’s come to this: Liberal loon screams at Trump robot during Disney ride
By Ben Bowles December 29, 2017

When an animatronic Donald Trump was unveiled earlier this month as the latest edition to Disney World’s Hall of Presidents, there was some discussion of the robot’s appearance — specifically of how little the robot Trump resembled the real one.

Some suggested the imitation Trump looked like Jon Voigt, while others submitted that it was more of a cross between Trump and Hillary Clinton, perhaps intended to mollify her supporters.

Another concern was over whether the Trump figure would have a speaking role. Despite a number of anti-Trump petitions, one with nearly 15,000 signatures urging Disney to silence the Trump robot, the figure does indeed speak, repeating his oath of office.

It was during a recent recitation that a member of the Resistance went ballistic, repeatedly shouting “Lock him up.” The nutcase currently enjoying his fifteen minutes of infamy is named Jay Malsky. According to his website, Malsky is a “New York based sketch comedian and character actor” who performs in drag. Among his other character is Hillary Clinton.

  27. Another relative of Huma Abedin headed to jail
By LU Staff December 29, 2017

A cousin of Huma Abedin who did a half-billion dollar deal with a man known as the “Russian Donald Trump” was convicted of fraud Tuesday, and the judge ordered him jailed immediately, saying he had demonstrated a “disdain for the courts and legal process” and was a flight risk.

Court documents also depict him trying to destroy potential evidence, saying he emailed his brother to “delete all of my emails from the yahoo site,” expressing “concern about them subp[o]ening yahoo at some point,” while concocting other fake documents to show the jury.

Jurors were barred from hearing a recording of a phone call in which Omar Amanat dropped the name of Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s right-hand woman, to a government witness, with defense lawyers saying the remark was “irrelevant and unfairly prejudicial,” according to the Associated Press.

The indictment charges that Amanat convinced people to invest millions of dollars in a tech company called Kit Digital and lied to them to hide the fact that the company was hemorrhaging cash.

  28. Armed citizens made a positive difference in 2017
By Joe Newby December 29, 2017

After 2017, don’t let anyone say armed citizens don’t make a difference.

While the news typically concentrates on gun-related crimes – including this week’s car smash burglary of a Bellevue, Wash. gun store in which dozens of handguns were taken – law-abiding gun owners made a difference more than once during 2017, and the odds are that armed citizens will do it again in 2018.

The Bellevue burglary was caught on camera. Thieves used a stolen car to ram through the doors of the shop, and then used it to get away. This is the kind of crime that seems to be on the upswing over the past few years, and it underscores the failure of gun control extremists to understand that one more law will keep guns out of the wrong hands, as people responding to the story at KING 5 News’ Facebook page have made clear.

But that’s bad news. The good news is that good guys with guns intervened when it counted.

The most notable of these cases was the church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, where an armed citizen, who also happens to be a firearms instructor, opened fire on church shooter Devin Patrick Kelley, bringing to an end his rampage that claimed 26 victims.

    • As I said earlier this week Gun Control is dead, technology has made the production of firearms easy enough and cheap enough that it can be done in any basement or garage. As the conditions around the world worsen and all nations become more and more dangerous more and more people will resort to home made firearms for protection. Eventually it will get bad enough the various governments will stop trying to enforce gun control laws and the people who can afford quality firearms will be able to buy them legally.

      • In America, lawful citizens can order 80% polymer AR-15 and Glock-style 9mm lower receivers and LEGALLY manufacture ARs and Glock-type firearms. ( https://polymer80.com/ ) Search youtube for videos on ordinary people constructing these firearms with nothing more than drills, hand tools and Dremels.

On the other hand, Australians with a computer program to make a firearm can be imprisoned for years.

Pretty big difference between the EU and the USA, huh?

  29. The 1917 Centenary: Two crucial maps
    By J.E. Dyer December 29, 2017

In 2013, Diana West set off something of a chain reaction with her book American Betrayal, which took a fresh look at Western patterns of thought in the 20th century, and contemplated how they shaped our national priorities and purposes in World War II – and shaped what is, in retrospect, an extraordinary narrative about those factors, and the war itself.

Most of her rich and varied treatment ended up being missed by critics, who focused on her coverage of the extensively documented involvement of Soviet agents of influence in the FDR administration. This is too bad, because the concerns West expresses go beyond the activities of Soviet agents.

Those concerns, in fact, have a lot to do with why the Soviet agents could be as successful as they seem to have been in affecting U.S. policy. We’ll look at that in more detail in a later piece.

In this one, my focus is on two maps of Europe during World War II. They are separated in time by only a few months. But the fate of the 20th century was decided with the shift they reflect.

    • This essay needs to be read several times to ensure you get everything she has put in, and then understand what she is saying. She is talking about WWII and the thought patterns that ran throughout the political leaders of the West.

Currently we are in another World Historical moment and once again very few people are looking at the maps, once again we are allowing ideology to cloud our minds about what should be done. Read her article and Diana Wests book (I have to get that book) and then think about what happened then and what is happening now. To a degree we are making the same mistakes in this war that we made in the last on, we need to start learning from history and to do that we need to start doing our own research and trusting the conclusions we reach based on what happened in the past and what is currently happening.

We on this Blog and the people on the other anti Islamic Conquest blogs think a lot about how to resist the conquest but not much about what the map is going to look like after the war and what the international politics of the post war will be like. I know it is early to think abut these matters because we don’t know who most of the leaders in the Western European nations will be after the war but we need some type of over view to push on our on political leaders so they don’t make the mistakes the allies made in WWII.

“The death of Prosecutor [Alberto] Nisman was not a suicide, and was brought about by a third party and in a painful manner,” Judge Julian Ercolini noted in the ruling.

The judge’s verdict marks the first time an Argentine judge has described the death of public prosecutor Alberto Nisman as a murder.

  31. Iranian police disperse anti-government protests

Demonstrations in the western city of Kermanshah spread to Tehran in protest against rising prices and alleged corruption

Iranian police have dispersed anti-government demonstrators in the western city of Kermanshah, as spontaneous protests spread to Tehran and apparently several other cities a day after rallies in the north-east.

The outbreak of unrest reflects growing discontent over rising prices and alleged corruption, as well as concern over the country’s costly involvement in regional conflicts such as Syria and Iraq.

An official said a few protesters had been arrested in Tehran, and videos posted on social media showed a heavy police presence and demonstrations in a number of other leading cities, which if verified would be the largest wave of protests in Iran since 2009.

Protests rally in western Iran, some demonstrators detained in Tehran

DUBAI (Reuters) – Iranian police dispersed anti-government protesters in the western city of Kermanshah on Friday, the Fars semi-official news agency said, as protests spread to Tehran and apparently several other cities a day after rallies in the northeast.

The outbreak of regional unrest reflects growing discontent over rising prices and alleged corruption, as well as concern over the Islamic Republic’s costly involvement in regional conflicts such as Syria and Iraq.

An official said a few protesters were arrested in Tehran, and videos posted on social media showed demonstrations in a number of the country’s leading cities, which if verified would be the largest wave of protests in Iran since 2009.

Footage posted on social media showed a heavy police presence in Tehran and some other cities.

About 300 demonstrators gathered in Kermanshah after what Fars called a “call by the anti-revolution” and shouted “Political prisoners should be freed” and “Freedom or death”, while destroying some public property. Fars did not name any opposition groups.

The protests in Kermanshah, the main city in a region where an earthquake killed over 600 people in November, took place a day after hundreds rallied in Iran’s second largest city Mashhad to protest at high prices and shout anti-government slogans.

Videos posted on social media showed demonstrators yelling, “The people are begging, the clerics act like God”.

Footage, which could not be verified, showed protests in other cities including Sari and Rasht in the north, Qom south of Tehran, and Hamadan in the west.

Mohsen Nasj Hamadani, deputy security chief in Tehran province, said about 50 people had rallied in a Tehran square and most left after being asked by police, but a few who refused were “temporarily detained”, the ILNA news agency reported.

In the central city of Isfahan, a resident said protesters joined a rally held by factory workers demanding back wages.

“The slogans quickly changed from the economy to those against (President Hassan) Rouhani and the Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Ali Khamenei),” the resident said by telephone.

Police arrested 52 people in Thursday’s protests, Fars quoted a judicial official as saying in Mashhad, one of the holiest places in Shi‘ite Islam.

In social media footage, riot police used water cannon and tear gas to disperse crowds.

Purely political protests are rare in Iran, where security services are omnipresent. The last unrest of national significance occurred in 2009 when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s re-election as president ignited eight months of street protests. Pro-reform rivals said the vote was rigged.

But demonstrations are often held by workers over layoffs or non-payment of salaries and people who hold deposits in non-regulated, bankrupt financial institutions.

Prominent conservative cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Alamolhoda called earlier for tough action against the protests.

“If the security and law enforcement agencies leave the rioters to themselves, enemies will publish films and pictures in their media and say that the Islamic Republic system has lost its revolutionary base in Mashhad,” the state news agency IRNA quoted Alamolhoda as saying.

    “DEATH TO DICTATOR”

Some social media videos showed demonstrators chanting “Death to Rouhani” and “Death to the dictator”. Protests were also held in at least two other northeastern cities.

Alamolhoda, the representative of Ayatollah Khamenei in northeastern Mashhad, said a few people had taken advantage of Thursday’s protests against rising prices to chant slogans against Iran’s role in regional conflicts.

Tehran backs Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in his country’s civil war, Shi‘ite militias in Iraq, Houthi rebels in Yemen and Lebanon’s powerful Hezbollah group.

“Some people had came to express their demands, but suddenly, in a crowd of hundreds, a small group that did not exceed 50 shouted deviant and horrendous slogans such as ‘Let go of Palestine’, ‘Not Gaza, not Lebanon, I’d give my life (only) for Iran’,” Alamolhoda said.

Social media videos also showed demonstrators chanting ”Leave Syria, think about us”, criticizing Iran’s military and financial support for Assad.

Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, a close Rouhani ally, suggested that hardline conservative opponents of the pragmatist president might have triggered the protests.

“When a social and political movement is launched on the streets, those who started it will not necessarily be able to control it in the end,” IRNA quoted Jahangiri as saying. “Those who are behind such events will burn their own fingers. They think they will hurt the government by doing so.”

Rouhani’s leading achievement, a 2015 deal with world powers that curbed Iran’s disputed nuclear program in return for a lifting of most international sanctions, has yet to bring the broad economic benefits the government says are coming.

Unemployment stood at 12.4 percent in this fiscal year, according to the Statistical Centre of Iran, up 1.4 percent from the previous year. About 3.2 million Iranians are jobless, out of a total population of 80 million.

    • Trump Administration Announces Support for Iran Protests

The State Department issued a Friday evening statement in support of Iranian protestors demonstrating against their government. The protestors’ chief complaints included economic inequality and soaring food costs.

The State Department statement accused Iran’s leaders of turning the country “into an economically depleted rogue state whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos.”

The statement condemned the reported arrests of more than 50 protestors, and appeared to support regime change in Iran. “On June 14, 2017, Secretary Tillerson testified to Congress that he supports ‘those elements inside of Iran that would lead to a peaceful transition of government,’” the statement read. “The Secretary today repeats his deep support for the Iranian people.”

    • Peaceful Protests in Iran

We are following reports of multiple peaceful protests by Iranian citizens in cities across the country. Iran’s leaders have turned a wealthy country with a rich history and culture into an economically depleted rogue state whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos. As President Trump has said, the longest-suffering victims of Iran’s leaders are Iran’s own people.

The United States strongly condemns the arrest of peaceful protesters. We urge all nations to publicly support the Iranian people and their demands for basic rights and an end to corruption.

On June 14, 2017, Secretary Tillerson testified to Congress that he supports “those elements inside of Iran that would lead to a peaceful transition of government. Those elements are there, certainly as we know.” The Secretary today repeats his deep support for the Iranian people.

The film is understood to centre on a fictional romance between a single mother and an Afghan refugee who meet on the night of 13 November as they rescue survivors of the attacks.

Arthur Denouveaux, from the victims’ group Life For Paris, told the Agence France Presse news agency: “Even if we have never asked for censorship, we are glad that modesty and restraint have prevailed.”
