    “Sweden has proposed banning the public use of legal document search engine Lexbase, which is used to identify the ethnic origins of Swedish criminal suspects.

    According to the Swedish government, the data released by the website is too sensitive for the public and should be limited only to professionals like lawyers, journalists, and researchers. Previously, the website was protected under the Swedish Freedom of Expression Act, but the new legislation could limit what data they are allowed to release, Dagens Industri reports.

    In a statement posted to their website, Lexbase wrote: “The right to read these public documents easily via Lexbase will, if the proposal is adopted, be reserved to professionals, such as lawyers, journalists, and various companies.”

    While Justice Minister Morgan Johansson said that journalistic activity would not be affected, he left the definition of what constitutes “journalistic activity” open to question.

    For many years, the Swedish government has stopped the collection of statistics relating to the ethnic or religious background of criminals, making it difficult for researchers to track the correct rate of migrant crime, as opposed to crimes committed by native Swedes.

    Some, like police officer Peter Springare, have claimed that the majority of serious crimes are committed by migrants or individuals from migrant backgrounds. Others have used freedom of information requests to look at crimes on a case-by-case basis and track the rate at which criminals born overseas have offended.

    One research project attempted to look solely at cases of gang rape in Sweden and found, through examining court documents, that nine out of 10 gang rapes were committed by asylum seekers and individuals with a migration background.”

    “The Bavarian government has defended classifying asylum homes in the region as ”dangerous places” and allowing police to enter or raid them without a warrant after an outcry by pro-migrant groups.

    Left-wing pro-migrant groups have accused the Bavarian government of infringing on the human rights of asylum seekers by allowing police warrantless access to asylum homes at any time. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann has defended the classification and increased the number of police present at asylum homes after several recent violent incidents, Die Welt reports.

    Nuremberg-based lawyer Yunus Ziyal has been one of the most vocal critics of the policy, saying: “All the people who live there have the same right to do so unmolested by others.”

    “No population group, and asylum seekers are a population group, deserves to be put under general suspicion,” he added.

    Ziyal said the classification puts asylum homes on the same level as “gambling dens and brothels”. The lawyer has an ally in Alexander Thal from the Bavarian Refugee Council, who argues the classification “stigmatises” asylum seekers…”

    “Former French prime minister Manuel Valls has insisted that not only do jihadists act in the name of Islam, but denying terrorists are true Muslims removes the responsibility of other Muslims to act.

    Mr. Valls, who served under Socialist President François Hollande, made his comments in a recent interview in which he stressed the importance of helping moderate Muslims combat radical Islamic extremism, L’Express reports.

    “To say that Islam and Islamism have nothing to do with it is to deny any responsibility to act to our fellow Muslims. We must help them, we must help them to fight within themselves these totalitarian ideologies of Salafism or the Muslim Brotherhood,” Valls said.

    Valls, who is now a member of President Emmanuel Macron’s Republic on the March party (LREM), slammed comments by French journalist Edwy Plenel, who claimed that he, along with satirical magazine Charlie Hendo, was “at war” with Muslims.

    “A £1,500-a-year Muslim girls’ school has been given the lowest grading after a series of failings including not providing toilet paper for “cultural reasons”.

    Government regulator Ofsted identified a range of concerns at Park Avenue Girls’ High School in Stoke-on-Trent, including hygiene, safeguarding problems, and the discovery of sectarian material on the premises.

    On the issue of toilets, staff insisted loo roll was available at reception on request, but not provided as a matter of course “because [the pupils] are Asian.” However, some pupils told inspectors they avoided the toilets for this reason.

    Inspectors also criticised the fact there was a lack of soap in the lavatories. There were also no showers on the premises.

    “At the time of the inspection, it was not the school’s common practice to provide soap for pupils’ hand-washing, toilet roll in the toilets or suitable drinking water,” the inspectors wrote in a report published last week.

    “Toilet paper is available from the school office when pupils request it. Pupils told inspectors that they sometimes avoided using toilets for the whole school day because of this.”

    Abdul Ghafoor Salloo, the head teacher, defended the policy by arguing they were catering to the cultural needs of children. He told The Telegraph:

    “The children they do use the toilets and traditionally, because we are Asian, we wash, not only wipe. There are facilities for pupils to clean themselves,” he said.

    “Some pupils, they avoid using toilets because they don’t like going in there. There are facilities for cleaning yourself in the toilet — it might be hard for someone who doesn’t traditionally wash to understand and washing is better than wiping clean.

    “The Ofsted inspector said there has to be toilet rolls, we said there are always toilet rolls but they are not always out — so what?”

    The Ofsted report also revealed the “inspectors found published sectarian material” on the premises. Mr. Salloo denied knowing about it, promised to destroy it, and vet literature entering the school in future.

    Attainment was also a problem as pupils were not “consistently challenged” and were said to have “too few opportunities to discuss and develop their ideas”. There were further concerns about the safeguarding of pupils and the safety of the premises and playgroup, with broken windows reported.

    There are 177 Muslim schools in England, with 148 being independent and 29 state-funded. Of the 139 independent Islamic schools inspected since 2015, 57 per cent were rated less than good, compared to 11 per cent of all schools. Many were marked down for failing to uphold British values.”

    On October 25, 2017, the highest French administrative court, the Council of State (Conseil d’État), ordered the removal of a Roman Catholic cross from the top of a monument dedicated to Pope John Paul II in a public square in Ploërmel, Britanny. According to the France’s highest administrative court, this cross was said to violate the secular nature of the State. Not the statue of the ex-pope John Paul II by itself; just the cross above it.

    Social media, in France and abroad — especially in Poland where John Paul II was born — flew into an immediate uproar: How could the government of a country considered the “eldest daughter of the Catholic church” ask for the removal of a Catholic cross in a tiny village that nobody even knew about before this incident?

    The Council of State is an independent legal body that has jurisdiction over disputes concerning civil liberties, administrative police, taxes, public contracts, the civil service, public health, competition rules, environmental law and secularism, to name just a few of its missions. The Council of State is also — as its name implies — the main advisor of every branch of government. Each time a minister or a prime minister has a difficult political decision to make, he sends the case to the Council of State. Generally, the Council of State’s advice becomes the law.

    “Police in Florida have arrested a 69-year-old Florida man who investigators say was plotting to attack a mosque.

    Bernandino Bolatete, a Filipino immigrant to the US, planned to target the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville, says the FBI.

    “I just want to give these freaking people a taste of their own medicine,” he allegedly texted an undercover officer.

    The green card-holder has been charged with possessing a gun silencer.

    At a press conference on Monday, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said Mr Bolatete “had expressed a strong anti-Islamic sentiment” and “had weaponry to carry out the attack”.

    He told an undercover he planned to climb the mosque’s minaret and that he had five rifles to use in the attack, according to an FBI complaint…”

    FREDERICK, Md. – Nearly a dozen United Parcel Service delivery trucks and an unknown number of packages were damaged in an early morning fire at [the temporary structure in] a facility in Frederick County. – The fire was reported around 4 a.m. Monday at a warehouse on the 6700 block of English Muffin Way. Officials say ten UPS vehicles, packages, and packaging equipment were damaged in the blaze. No injuries were reported. – Officials say the warehouse was a temporary structure put in place to help with extra holiday deliveries. The trucks were parked near the building when the fire started and a sprinkle system helped control the flames. The fire is not considered suspicious in nature at this time.

    “POLICE have charged two men over an alleged plot to launch a terror attack on 10 Downing Street to kill the Prime Minister.

    According to reports, one man was plotting to blow up the security gates at Downing Street with an explosive hidden in a bag.

    The man then allegedly planned to storm Number 10 armed with a knife and suicide vest to kill Theresa May.

    A man, 20, has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism and is understood to have been arrested by Met Police last week.

    A 21-year-old man is accused of assisting him.

    Security around the Prime Minister’s home is high with police and security gates surrounding Number 10.

    Both men are said to have been arrested on November 28.

    They will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

    The UK has been on high alert following several ISIS terror attacks on British soil this year.

    In March, Khalid Masood, born Adrian Elms in Kent, drove a car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, before crashing the vehicle into the gates of Westminster.

    Five people were killed and 49 others injured in the attack before Masood was shot by police.

    Then in June, less than two weeks after Manchester Arena was targeted, eight people were killed after a van drove through crowds on London Bridge and three terrorists launched a knife attack in Borough Market.

    In September an improvised explosive exploded on a London tube train leaving 30 people injured.

    Following March’s terror attack on Westminster, Theresa May said: “Yesterday an act of terrorism tried to silence our democracy.

    “But today we meet as normal – as generations have done before us, and as future generations will continue to do – to deliver a simple message: we are not afraid. And our resolve will never waver in the face of terrorism.”

    The nation’s terror level has been raised to “critical” – meaning an attack is expected imminently – several times this year.

    It currently remains at “severe”, meaning an attack is highly likely.

    Yesterday MI5 chief Andrew Parker revealed a total of nine terrorist attacks have been prevented in the UK in the past year.

    Mr Parker, at a Cabinet meeting, warned Theresa May and her senior ministers that the defeat of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria did not mean the terror threat was over, warning that social media was being used to encourage attacks in the UK and elsewhere.

    Following the briefing at a cabinet meeting, Mrs May told ministers that the threat from terror was at an “unprecedented” level, despite the military setbacks experienced in its Middle East strongholds by Islamic State – also known as Daesh.

    Home Secretary Amber Rudd added that the pace of attack planning has increased “significantly” over the past year.

    Later, reporting back to MPs in the Commons, the Home Secretary outlined the terror threat facing the UK, saying there was “simply more terrorist activity” which had been partly inspired by more terrorist propaganda and instruction videos online.

    The Home Secretary said: “Plots are developing more quickly from radicalisation to attack, and threats are becoming harder to detect, partly due to the challenge of accessing communications that are increasingly end-to-end encrypted.

    “MI5 and counter terrorism policing are currently running well over 500 live operations, a third up since the beginning of the year, involving roughly 3,000 subjects of interest.

    “In addition, there are over 20,000 further individuals, or closed subjects, of interest, who have previously been investigated and may again pose a threat.”

    Express contacted the Metropolitan Police but a spokeswoman said they would not comment on the allegations.”

  17. DEC 06 2017 – INDIA – 25th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya

    Ahead of Babri demolition anniversary, states on alert, 700 security personnel deployed in Ayodhya

    The 25th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition could lead to Dharna, demonstrations, protests by “both communities,” the ministry advisory read, without naming either of the communities.

    Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid, Uttar Pradesh beefed up security in Ayodhya even as the Centre issued an all India advisory to states to remain cautious and ensure that there was peace and no incident of communal tension anywhere in the country.

    Sources said that the state of Uttar Pradesh had asked for eight companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

    While the other companies are to be deployed in other cities of UP, at least two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) a component of CRPF were deployed Faizabad district, where Ayodhya is located.

    High level sources said that, Ayodhya is already well protected with six companies approximately 500 men and women personnel deployed. This includes 5 CRPF and one Mahila Wing of the force deployed at the disputed site.

    With additional two hundred personnel of RAF deployed for the security in Ayodhya, the total number of the force is nearly 700. The deployment of RAF done just ahead of the anniversary.

    Meanwhile in a communication, MHA has written to the states and union territories, urging them to deploy adequate security forces at sensitive places and to maintain extra vigil.

    The 25th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition could lead to Dharna, demonstrations, protests by “both communities,” the ministry advisory read, without naming either of the communities.

    The demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, was followed by riots in which hundreds of people were killed.

    Union Home Ministry official said that the advisory is to caution states of any attempts to disturb peace could be foiled, a ministry official told India today.
    Meanwhile the Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the commencement of final hearing in the Ayodhya title dispute to 8th February, 2018.

    I don’t dispute millenarianism as a force, even growing as it usually does in times of upheaval. But much of what I read shows how easy it is to glom onto to the Mahdi-thing and fixate on the woo-woo.

    There are other, more compelling dimensions Western commentators ignore. Of course they’d have to know some history, and even more complicated ethnology. “Native” experts are facile purveyors of mystique, so they’re not entirely credible either.

    Plus the Persians are incredibly adept at using the concept to weaponize low-IQ masses and lessor peoples. Afghans and Pakis and Africans. They accommodate animists and tolerate practices and sects that are inimical to classical Islamic doctrine.

    Persians are acutely aware of themselves as empire-builders, very gifted people who want another go. They’re also extremely caste conscious. They look down on Arabs, while Turks are simply subhuman.

    Iran has a larger population of minorities than the total number of Persians who run the place. They have simply chosen not to mix with “lesser” ethnic groups over the centuries. (Zoroastrians are ethnic Persians, doubly resented for refusing to convert, while possessed of superior bloodlines.)

    – – Incidentally, urban or even peasant-farmer Arabs look down on nomads, societies organized through hamulas, clan or tribe. Egyptians discriminate against their own Bedouin in the Sinai, detest as “camel-drivers” the Arab tribals of the Saudi Peninsula and Mesopotamia.

    Lebanese are rug-peddlers; Persians, snake-oil merchants. Simply not our kind, dear.

    The British invented royalty-chic to seduce the Hashemites and the dominant warlord Saudi tribe. The “Keepers of the Shrines” – descendants of the Pirate – were imperial servants of the successive empires. Janitors and gatekeepers of Mecca and Medina. Nothing more.

    Commissions from both ministries have begun a campaign in bookstores around the kingdom to search out religious extremist books, especially those whose authors are preachers known for praising terrorism and radicalism, reported the daily Al Massae daily on December 4.

    The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, has sent a confidential letter to the territorial directorates to list bookstores specializing in selling extremist works and to note the titles of books of that glorify Shia Islam or contain extremist ideologies.

    These measures seek to protect Moroccan youth from religious radicalism and to prevent them from falling into the criminal hands of terrorist organizations, said the daily…”

      “In a world full of human rights organizations and anti-slavery NGOs, the continued existence of slavery is still alarming. The 2016 Global Slavery Index estimates that 45.8 million people are suffering from some form of modern slavery, and according to the report, Morocco ranks at number 18 out of the 167 listed countries.

      The data showcases that there are 219,700 modern slavery victims in Morocco. The term modern or contemporary slavery encompasses many different kinds of exploitation that undermines human rights, including child labor and marriage, forced marriage, and human trafficking.

      The forced marriage of children and women is one of the main issues highlighted in the report. “The phenomenon of temporary or tourist marriages whereby men, often from the Gulf states, travel abroad and temporarily take a wife for the duration of their vacation has been identified in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco and India,” say the authors of the index.

      The survey indicates that children are sometimes forced to get married by their parents for economic gain.

      “In Morocco, the 2014 census revealed more than 100,000 child brides, some of whom may have been married without free and informed consent,” said the report.

      This issue is notable in other Arab countries, especially those experiencing civil wars and unrest.

      “Children as young as 11 have been sold into temporary marriages in Egypt,” says the report. The temporary marriage can last for few hours, days, or weeks or few hours.

      Meanwhile, “refugee children from Syria and Iraq have been forcibly married by desperate parents to ensure their economic security and protect them from the threat of sexual violence.”

      According to the report, the countries with the highest numbers of modern slavery by the proportion of their population are North Korea, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, and Qatar.

      Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Libya all rank at number six. 70,900 people are victims of slavery in Libya, while Algeria ranks 20th with 248,300 victims. Tunisia ranks 15 with 85,000 victims of modern slavery.

      The issue of slavery is also found at the heart of developed countries, including the US, Canada, Belgium, Sweden, and Switzerland which all rank at number 52…”

    “French school children aged 9 to 10 have been ranked the worst in Europe for their reading skills, marking a steady decline in levels since 2001, a new study has revealed.
    It’s not good news for French schools.

    The study by PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study), which has been carried out every five years since 2001, ranks the reading skills of school children aged 9 to 10 in 50 countries.

    Thousands of French school pupils took part in the study in the spring of 2016, answering a series of comprehension questions on literary and informative texts.

    And the results weren’t good news, with the country coming last in Europe and 34th overall on a list that saw Russia claim the top spot, followed by Singapore, Hong Kong, Ireland and Finland.

    France received a total of 511 points in the survey, which was led by the IEA, a Dutch consulting firm specializing in comparative studies of international school systems.

    This score puts French children 25 points below the average for children participating in other European Union countries (544 points).

    By comparison, Russia received 581 points and England, which was ranked tenth, received 559 points.

    And the low ranking marks a trend for France, which is one of just two countries to see their scores steadily decline since the study began in 2001, along with the Netherlands.

    In 2011, the country received 520 points and when the study began in 2001, it received 532 points.

    When looking at the results closely, it appears that French schoolchildren were fairly successful when it came to answering simple questions about texts, for example the names of major characters.

    However when the questions involved interpretation, for example, using information from an informative text to build reasoning, French children had trouble.

    But why?

    It doesn’t seem to be a question of time dedicated to the subject, with French schools spending an average of 37 percent of their time teaching reading, compared to an average of 27 percent in other countries.

    But while French teachers are equally as experienced as their counterparts, they were also found by the study to be the least satisfied with their job and teaching conditions.

    France is also among the countries that gives the least amount of teacher training, with the study revealing that 38 percent of schoolchildren were taught by teachers who did not receive continuous training to teach reading in the two years preceding the survey.

    This rate is well above the average of other countries studied which stood at 16 percent.”

  25. G20 Hamburg riot suspects raided by police across Germany

    A special commission has spent the past six months combing through images of rioters at the Hamburg G20. Police have now carried out raids across Germany.

    German police launched a series of raids on Tuesday against people suspected of rioting during the July G20 meeting in Hamburg.

    The investigative criminal police forces (LKA) in several states raided 25 properties across Germany, police said. The raids took place in the states of Hamburg, Berlin, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, Saxony-Anhalt, Rhineland-Palatinate and Lower Saxony.

    The raids were carried out under the auspices of a 170-member special commission that was formed in July after chaotic and violent scenes at the G20 by the so-called “Black Bloc” in Hamburg’s district of Bahrenfeld. Investigators have spent the past six months combing through thousands of videos, images and surveillance images taken during the meetings.

    Police actions on Tuesday involved 583 officers and targeted 22 different suspects.

    Radical left targeted

    In Hamburg, one of the raids reportedly targeted Deniz Ergün, a leader of the Roter Aufbau – a radical leftwing, anti-imperialist group that was implicated in the riots. Police confirmed that two of its targets were known gathering points for left wing radicals.

    Oolice investigator Jan Hieber insisted they were making a distinction between the tens of thousands of people who demonstrated lawfully and those who planned criminal acts to disrupt the events.

    Police said they had opened 678 investigations into people involved in July’s incidents, 372 of which are known by name and 306 not yet identified. Some 113 police officers accused of misconduct in the G20 missions are also being investigated.

    The raids were reportedly aimed at seizing evidence to be used in prosecution of suspected rioters.

    Police raid left-wing scene in 8 states over Hamburg G20 violence

    The G20 in Hamburg was marked by violent clashes between demonstrators and police in several parts of the city. On Tuesday morning police raided properties across the country as part of their investigation into the rioting.

    Five months after the riots at the G20 summit in Hamburg, police have raided properties in eight German states, Hamburg authorities announced on Tuesday. The operation, run by the special commission “Black Block”, has been under way since the early morning.

    A police spokesman said that the aim was to secure further evidence in connection with violence at the summit. A double-digit number of apartments associated with the left-wing scene have been searched in states including Hamburg, Berlin, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia.

    The searches were carried out in connection with investigations into riots during a police operation in the Hamburg district of Bahrenfeld on the fringes of the G20 summit.

    At that time, federal police officers took action against about 200 demonstrators because, according to their own statements, they were attacked with stones and bottles, among other things. The media has reported, however, based on video evidence that the police were only attacked with three projectiles.

    The spokesman went on to say that the left-wing cultural centre “Rote Flora” in Hamburg was not searched during Tuesday’s raids. After riots on July 7th in the Schanzenviertel, the Rote Flora’s organizers were accused of involvement in the violence.

    Rioting began in Hamburg on Friday July 6th – the day before the G20 started – and continued until the Sunday. Black bloc protesters burned cars and smashed in the windows of shops in several parts of the city, causing an estimated several million euros worth of damage.

    Police won initial sympathy after 500 officers were injured in clashes with masked protesters. But subsequently at least 35 investigations were launched into alleged crimes by officers against demonstrators, most of which were assaults.
