“Facebook’s artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly adept at keeping terrorist content off the social network, the company has said.
Today, 99 percent of Islamic State and Al Qaeda-related content Facebook removes is detected by the company’s AI before any user flags it, Monika Bickert, Facebook’s head of global policy management, and Brian Fishman, head of counter-terrorism policy, said Wednesday. They said in some cases the software was able to block the content from ever being posted in the first place.
The executives cautioned that Facebook’s automated solutions are still imperfect, however. “A system designed to find content from one terrorist group may not work for another because of language and stylistic differences in their propaganda,” they said.
As a result, Facebook said it had concentrated its efforts on IS and Al Qaeda, “the terrorist groups that pose the biggest threat globally.” Facebook hopes to eventually expand its automated tools to target content from other, more regionally-focused terrorist organizations too, according to the executives.
Facebook has faced increased criticism around the globe from governments concerned that the social network provides a platform for terrorist propaganda and recruitment. British Prime Minister Theresa May has been particularly vocal in her attacks on social media companies and has sought to rally the leaders of other democracies to impose greater regulation on these tech businesses.
Partly in response, Facebook has joined forces with Microsoft Corp., Twitter Inc. and Google’s YouTube, a division of Alphabet Inc., to form the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism. The group helps companies coordinate their efforts to combat terrorist content and to share insights with smaller technology companies. Terrorist groups are increasingly turning to newer, smaller social networks as they have been kicked from sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The Yemenis were convicted of killing three people across multiple home invasions in ‘Asir, a southern province of Saudi Arabia. They also stole cash and other valuables from the homes of their victims. All six men were executed in the city of Abha.
The Saudi convict had smuggled pills into the country and was executed in Tabuk.
One hundred thirty people have been executed in Saudi Arabia thus far in 2017, not quite breaking last year’s number of 154 executions. In the Kingdom, a litany of crimes can result in execution, including homosexuality, adultery, blasphemy, witchcraft and sexual misconduct. However, the vast majority of executions are conducted for serious convictions of terrorism, drug-smuggling, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape and murder.
Most executions are done in public via beheading with a scimitar. In Islamic jurisprudence, those condemned may dodge execution if they are pardoned by the family of the victim.
Only China and Iran are believed to execute more people per year than Saudi Arabia, although exact numbers in China are unknown. Amnesty International reported at least 977 executions in Iran in 2015…”

Fight erupts during “It’s OK to Be White” speech at UConn, speaker arrested
STORRS, Conn. (AP/WTNH) — A fight broke out at a speech being held at the University of Connecticut on Tuesday night.
UConn’s College Republicans student group was sponsoring the appearance, entitled, “It’s OK To Be White,” featuring 29-year-old conservative commentator Lucian Wintrich.
Wintrich is the White House correspondent for the right-wing blog Gateway Pundit, which said the talk would be about “identity politics” in today’s cultural and political landscape.
During the speech, a fight broke out and officers removed Wintrich from the room.

President Trump trained his tweets on Islamists Wednesday morning, sharing videos that show alleged attacks by Muslims and were first posted by a right-wing British politician.
The videos were retweeted from the feed of Jayda Fransen, who is a deputy leader of Britain First, a far-right British political party.
The first video has the caption: “VIDEO: Muslim migrant beats up Dutch boy on crutches!” The video shows a dark-haired young man approaching a blond young man on crutches. The two speak at the beginning of the video, and the dark-haired man puts his arm around the other. Seconds later, the dark-haired man backs up and appears to start punching and kicking the other person — though it’s unclear whether the attack was real or staged.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said he was disturbed upon seeing President Trump retweeting three videos Wednesday of what appear to be Muslim men violently attacking non-Muslims and Christian religious items.
“I have no idea what would motivate him to do that. To me it’s bizarre and disturbing, and particularly when I think of him doing that in the context of North Korea, where moderation and thought is critical. When you see him do something like this, I find it very disturbing. I have no way of explaining what on Earth motivated it,” Clapper told CNN’s “New Day” Wednesday morning.
Trump shared videos originally posted by Jayda Fransen, deputy leader of Britain First HQ, a far-right overseas group.
Fransen was found guilty of religiously harassing a Muslim woman in November 2016. She was also charged with using “threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behavior” during a speech she gave in Northern Ireland and is due to appear in Belfast Magistrates Court over that incident next month.
Clapper worried that Trump’s sharing the videos could incite violence against Muslims. “I think it causes our friends and allies to question where is he coming from with this, so it has all kinds of ripple affects, both in inciting or encouraging anti-muslim violence, and it causes our friends and allies around the world to wonder about the judgment of the president of the United States,” Clapper added.
According to BuzzFeed, a clip showing a man being pushed off a rooftop and beaten was filmed four years ago in Egypt, and resulted in the perpetrator being hanged. Another video showing a boy on crutches being assaulted. A 16-year-old boy was arrested in the Netherlands for the crime, and since then claims have been made that no one involved in the video was a migrant.
Trump’s retweets of Britain First representatives raised concerns even among far-right groups in the U.S. Paul Joseph Watson, editor at large of the conspiracy website Infowars, said the retweets were “not great optics” for Trump.
During his presidential campaign in 2015 and 2016, Trump called for a ban on all Muslims seeking entry to the U.S. until the connection between the Islamic State and the Muslim religion could be determined. No such ban has taken place, but the administration has implemented executive orders that ban some immigrants from countries with large Muslim populations.
The State Department has cited national security concerns, including foreign governments’ inabilities to properly screen immigrants in a way that meets America’s standards.

Earlier today, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, responded to what it called President Trump’s “incitement to violence against American Muslims” after he retweeted Islamophobic videos from an anti-Muslim British political leader who has been charged in the United Kingdom with “religious aggravated harassment.”

In a prepared statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
This morning, millions of Americans were shocked but not surprised to see President Trump re-tweet anti-Muslim videos.
One of the videos has already been de-bunked by Snopes. The other two videos are unverified.
The videos were from a hate group known as “Britain First,” which calls for a comprehensive ban on Islam in the UK and to deport British Muslims, who’ve made the UK their home for generations.
President Trump’s actions are putting the lives and safety of American Muslim children and families at risk.
Hate speech leads to hate crimes. When hate speech and conspiracy theories against American minorities go unchallenged, they foster an atmosphere that causes hate crimes.
Throughout this year, CAIR offices nationwide received, on average, at least 1-2 daily reports of hate crimes targeting American Muslims, Muslim houses of worship, or people perceived as Muslim.
As numerous Americans who are Muslim or ‘looked Muslim’ were shot or beaten severely, we did not hear a word from this President.
During most of these attacks, attackers uttered or expressed the same anti-Muslim slurs repeated daily in mainstream headlines and often by President Trump himself.
This is a continuation of President Trump’s pattern of sexual, religious and racial harassment of many Americans. This includes Trump’s attempts to turn Americans against each other… and his standing by Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, who was credibly accused of inappropriate contact with children.
Trump has infected the Republican Party and I am asking my Republican friends who believe in the words of the Declaration of Independence, in Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, in the 14th Amendment, and in the Constitution’s guarantees of equal justice under law, to not sit idly by while all this injustice continues.
This is not a conservative or liberal issue; it is an American one.
I am asking our nation’s Republican leadership:
• When will you draw a line in the sand against this bigotry and harassment?
• What will it take for the Republican Party to say that these actions do not represent the Grand Old Party?
• When will you put country over party?
• When is the Republican Leadership, RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, going to stand up for all Americans? This cannot be the America you want your children to live in.

A low temperature of minus 69 degrees was recorded early Tuesday in Delyankir, Russia. This is colder than the all-time record lows in every U.S. state except Utah (-69 degrees), Montana (-70 degrees) and Alaska (-80 degrees).

INTERVIEW-NATO sees growing Russia, China challenge; higher risk of war
BERLIN, Nov 28 (Reuters) – China’s growing military strength and a resurgent Russia will pose growing challenges to the trans-Atlantic alliance in coming years, and NATO’s moves to bolster its capabilities could trigger a new Cold War-style arms race, a NATO report said.
The report, completed once every four years, identifies 20 global trends that are likely to affect the alliance through 2035, ranging from artificial intelligence and accelerating technology development to climate change and growing inequality.
General Denis Mercier, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, told Reuters the report showed a higher risk of major interstate war than in the 2013 report.

Secret donors are financing the lawsuit against President Donald Trump and White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney over who runs the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
Deepak Gupta, the lead lawyer of a boutique law firm that launched its suit on behalf of CFPB acting director Leandra English, confirmed in a CNBC interview that English is not paying for his hourly fees, but rather unknown anonymous donors are.
Gupta refused to name who is funding the lawsuit, making it difficult to ascertain the motives, intentions, or any special interests of those underwriting the case.

Judge backs Trump’s pick as acting director of CFPB

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly sided with the Trump administration Tuesday afternoon, after an Obama-era agency official attempted to stop the president from installing White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney as acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
Former CFPB Director Richard Cordray resigned in late November, but designated his Chief of Staff Leandra English as deputy director before finalizing his departure. Under the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act that chartered the CFPB, the agency’s deputy director may become the acting director when the director is “absent or unavailable.”
In response, President Donald Trump exercised his authority under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act to name Mulvaney the acting director. English sued, claiming the appointment was unlawful, since Dodd-Frank specifically proscribes a succession procedure.
Mulvaney assumed the acting directorship Monday, and has been working from the director’s office at the agency’s Washington headquarters. The CFPB general counsel, Mary McLeod, circulated a memo among agency leadership on Nov. 25 explaining that, in her view, Trump has the authority to name an acting director.

ITALY – Como – Italian neo-Nazis interrupt volunteers’ meeting to bemoan migrant ‘invasion’
A gang of skinheads barged in on voluntary workers in the city of Como on Tuesday night to denounce their efforts to help migrants in Italy, which they claimed was subject to an “invasion”.
The group of around 15 men, who said they belonged to a group called Veneto Fronte Skinheads, interrupted members of Como Without Borders, a network of associations that help migrants and refugees in northern Italy, as they met in a local community centre.
Dressed in matching black bomber jackets, the men surrounded the volunteers’ conference table and listened as their spokesman read aloud a wordy screed decrying globalism and immigration.
Amid awkward silence, he claimed that European people were being “replaced” by “non-people” and denounced those who assist migrants as “proponents of immigrationism at all costs, incapable of seeing that their sick logic is sacrificing people the world over on the altar of alienating turbo-capitalism”.
“For all of you, children of a country that you no longer love,” he told the volunteers, “we’re here to remind you that the real people loves and does not destroy itself. Stop the invasion.
“Now you can go back to discussing how to ruin our country,” he concluded.
A video filmed by one of the volunteers then shows the surreal spectacle of the men filing out of the room as the association members wish them goodnight and ask them to be quiet leaving the building.
The whole encounter only lasted a few minutes. Yet commentators say it’s another alarming sign of how visible neo-fascism is becoming in Italy.
“It is unacceptable that that a group clearly inspired by neo-fascism interrupts a peaceful meeting to deliver their racist ramblings,” commented Carla Nespolo, the president of Italy’s partisans’ association ANPI, which maintains a lookout for new forms of fascism in Italy.
The group called on the government to give an urgent response to what it described as “the umpteenth, shameful episode”.
Veneto Fronte Skinheads are a prime example of what Italy calls “naziskins” – a portmanteau of Nazi and skinhead. Founded in 1986, according to La Repubblica, in recent years the group has taken to targeting charities that offer assistance to migrants.
Its website posts pictures of recent stunts, which seem to consist chiefly of hanging homemade banners attacking charities, denouncing Islam, praising Nazi collaborators and commemorating Allied bombings on Nazi Germany.
“They wanted to intimidate us, but they didn’t succeed,” a spokeswoman for Como Without Borders, Anna Maria Francescato, told local news site Qui Como. “We’ve received lots of messages of support that encourage what we’re doing. We certainly won’t change any of our activity and we’ll continue to fight fascism.”

According to NBC Chicago, the officer, Esteban Gomez, behaved throughout his interrogation of the teens in a manner that could be described only as “inappropriate and unprofessional.” At one point in the video found here, Gomez can be heard rhetorically asking the driver, “What are you, a tough guy?”
The recording was made by one of the teens, Dezi Baczek, who says she “was yelled at to sit down. I said, ‘What’s the reason?’ And he said sit down or I could turn around and be arrested, so I sat down at that point.”

“Islamophobia is on the rise at the university,” Khan said. “Sometimes you don’t even notice it, like you’re in class and someone will spit on you from behind and you don’t realize it until you’re fixing your hijab. It’s the most demeaning behavior.”
The university itself does not agree that hate crimes are on the rise and says it hasn’t had reports of such incidents taking place.
“The university has not had a case where someone has had their headdress targeted,” Janet Bryson, the university’s senior communications manager, told the outlet, adding that the school’s “expectation is that they won’t have to be used.”
Clark MacIntosh from NSPIRG, chalks up the fact that no such reports have been made to the same reasons rape victims sometimes avoid reporting assault.
“There is a level of identity and safety that comes with a head covering. So when that is taken away, it puts someone in a vulnerable position,” MacIntosh said. “To then have to speak with security or police could be re-traumatizing.”

The EU’s Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos explained that all elements of the migrant deal with Turkey were moving ahead, after Turkey agreed to stem the tide of Middle Eastern migrants in return for billions in aid and the opening Europe’s borders to Turks.
He made the comments to Turkish paper Hurriyet ahead of a visit to the nation. In a Turkish language version, he is quoted, according to a rough translation, as saying the deal in its “last level”.
Pressed on when he expects progress on visa-free travel, in the English version of the interview, Mr. Avramopoulos stressed that Ankara must “meet the remaining benchmarks”, including revisions to Turkey’s authoritarian anti-terror law.

“Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, told his parliament last week that he has “no intention” of accepting more migrants despite pressure from the UN Refugee Agency.
During a debate in Japan’s parliament, Mr. Abe argued that accepting foreign workers should is justifiable only where they are truly needed to “keep Japan’s economy and infrastructure sustainable.”
The 63-year-old prime minister is a confirmed nationalist and an admirer of U.S. President Donald Trump, and has pursued a “Japan-first” economic policy that has been compared to that of Mr. Trump.
The admiration seems to be mutual, and the two leaders spent a fair amount of time together during Trump’s Asia trip earlier this month. “Our relationship is really extraordinary,” Mr. Trump said. “We like each other and our countries like each other. And I don’t think we’ve ever been closer to Japan than we are right now.”
Japan is an ethnically homogeneous nation, with less than 2 percent of the population foreign born, and its immigration policies are designed to defend Japan’s cultural identity as well as to insure national security. It also aims to protect the local job market to keep unemployment to a minimum.
Tokyo has claimed that many people seek asylum in Japan in order to find work, since people applying for refugee status have access to renewable work permits.
According to Japanese immigration policy, unskilled migrant workers are denied entry. Five years ago, Japan introduced a points-based immigration system to “promote entry of highly-skilled foreign professionals” in order to insure that migrants were making a positive contribution to the country.
Earlier this month, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) pressed Japan to accept more refugees when it came to light that the country had only accepted only 3 refugees during the entire first half of 2017. In 2016, Japan took in a total of just 28 refugees in the whole calendar year, out of 10,901 applicants for asylum.
At a press conference in Tokyo, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi complained that Japan wasn’t doing its part to welcome migrants and refugees.
“That program is very small, about 20-30 refugees a year,” Mr. Grandi said. “I have asked the government to consider whether it could be expanded.”
Despite its unwillingness to take in more migrants, Tokyo has pledged $18.6 million in humanitarian aid to assist in the Rohingya crisis, which UN officials have denounced as a “classic example of ethnic cleansing.” Japan is currently the fourth largest donor to the UNHCR.
According to the Global Peace Index for 2017, Japan is ranked as the tenth safest country in the world, with a “very high” state of peace.”

“A Qatari charity pumping money into British schools, mosques, and prisoner groups is led by a man who also launched a radical website that ordered Muslims to hate Jews and Christians and to destroy their monuments.
Yousef al-Kuwari is the chief executive of Qatar Charity UK (QCUK), which describes itself as “non-faith-based” but “distributes donations that are specifically earmarked for projects related to Ramadan and other Islamic traditions”.
The group’s work includes the construction of a new mosque in the north of England and supporting projects teaching British school children and former prisoners.
Despite working extensively in UK institutions, Mr. al-Kuwari also founded Islamweb, a website that issued edicts stating that it is “forbidden” to swear an oath to gain British citizenship.
Another edict from this June, uncovered by The Telegraph, told Muslim readers that “it is incumbent to hate [Jews and Christians] for the sake of Allah”.
It also called for non-Muslim statues, historical monuments, and tombs – including the ancient Sphinx in Egypt – to be destroyed and described music as forbidden, or haram.
QCUK is the British arm of Qatar Charity, a Doha-based charity funded by Qatar’s Islamist, theocratic, and authoritarian state, which has been banned as an organisation in some neighbouring Gulf States.
The group is currently tied up in a separate controversy, with senior members accused of bullying employees and threatening non-Muslims who do not convert.
In an employment tribunal, a former staff member alleges Fadi Itani, QCUK’s deputy director general, is guilty of “bullying and harassment” and warning those who do not submit to Islam that they would be “punished”.
Mr. al-Kuwari was previously head of information technology at the Qatari Ministry of Endowments before he set up Islamweb.
Between 1998 and 2010, fatwas posted on the website included ones calling on all citizens to “wage jihad by every means against the Zionist occupation and aggression” and stating that “living in non-Muslim countries is forbidden except for a dire need”.
Qatar Charity UK denied the allegations of harassment made at the employment tribunal and has distanced themselves from views expressed on Islamweb.
“The views and contents expressed on the website do not reflect the views of Mr. al-Kawari and cannot be attributed to him,” the charity claimed. “They certainly do not reflect the views of and cannot be attributed in any way to QCUK.””
How Qatar is being pushed into the arms of Iran by Saudi Arabia & its allies

Hampered by a trade and transport boycott from former allies Bahrain, the UAE and Saudi Arabia which is almost in its sixth month, the small but extremely rich state of Qatar is being forced to find its friends where it can. Nearby Oman has proved to be one willing ally through these difficult months, as has Turkey. The most politically disruptive linkages, however, are being formed across the waters of the Gulf with the Islamic Republic.
Iran and Qatar have always had a strong incentive to get along reasonably well as they share a huge natural gas field, known as the North Field in Qatar and as South Pars in Iran. It was this fairly cordial relationship between the two countries that has been cited by the three other Gulf countries (along with Egypt) as a reason for imposing their boycott in June.…

Prosecutor Per Svensson said: “I mean it is clear that it may not have been that he felt threatened by her. The murder has the character of a clean execution.”

N.Korea says “breakthrough” puts U.S. mainland within range of nuclear weapons
SEOUL/WASHINGTON, Nov 29 (Reuters) – North Korea said it successfully tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday in a “breakthrough” that puts the U.S. mainland within range of its nuclear weapons whose warheads could withstand re-entry to the Earth’s atmosphere.
North Korea’s first missile test since mid-September came a week after U.S. President Donald Trump put North Korea back on a U.S. list of countries it says support terrorism, allowing it to impose more sanctions.
North Korea, which also conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test in September, has tested dozens of ballistic missiles under its leader, Kim Jong Un, in defiance of international sanctions. The latest was the highest and longest any North Korean missile had flown, landing in the sea near Japan.
North Korea said the new missile reached an altitude of about 4,475 km (2,780 miles) – more than 10 times the height of the International Space Station – and flew 950 km (590 miles) during its 53-minute flight.

The best information I can find is that we have about a year before North Korea has a miniaturized nuke that will fit on the missile and a re-entry vehicle that will allow the nuke to survive re-entry. If this is true we have about 9 months before we will be forced to make a preemptive strike. The problem is at least part of the information is coming from intel groups that Obama had control of and no telling who he put in there that are still following his orders to down play anything North Korea does.

“A strong majority of Europeans across 11 nations are opposed to the European Union’s (EU) immigration policies, including nearly nine in 10 Hungarians.
The survey was conducted by the Néz?pont Institute in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
It revealed that 74 per cent of respondents in those countries believed that the EU’s migration policies have or will be negative for the continent.
Central Europeans were the most opposed, with 89 per cent of Slovaks and Hungarians holding a negative view of the policies, closely followed by 88 per cent of Czechs.
Meanwhile, 63 per cent of Austrians and 58 per cent of Germans also said the mass immigration overseen by the EU is bad for the bloc.
Furthermore, when asked about Hungary’s rejection of forced EU migrant quotas, 56 per cent of people in the Visegrád nations (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia) say they agreed with the Hungarian premier’s fight against them.
The migrant relocation scheme was forced through the European Parliament in September 2015, regardless as to whether all nations and their populations agreed.
A number of Eastern and Central European countries resisted the plan, and have since challenged the scheme in the courts – arguing they did not vote for it and placing blame for the migrant crisis with the EU and Germany – as the EU threatens sanctions.
Hungary has also constructed a border fence along its southern frontier to stem the flow of migrants from the Middle East and Africa passing through its territories on the way to Northern and Central Europe.
Since the barrier’s construction, Hungary has reportedly slashed illegal immigration by over 99 per cent.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ordered the fence’s construction after the migrant crises of 2015 when border controls were suspended and more than a million migrants arrived.
Since then, European forces have picked up hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants in the Mediterranean and EU leaders have promised to bring in more migrants by legal means.”

“The Austrian prison system’s most senior imam, Ramazan Demir, warns that the country’s prisons are becoming a breeding ground for Islamic extremism.
In his new book, Imam Demir claims that the situation in prisons is getting worse in terms of radicalisation and that while many criminals enter the system for petty crime, they soon come under the influence of radical Islamist preachers, Kronen Zeitung reports.
“Prisoners who behave inconspicuously at first mutate into ticking time bombs. Suddenly driven by hatred, they speak of wanting to commit murders,” Demir said.
The revelations are even more alarming due to the fact that Muslims are estimated to make up around a quarter of the total prison population in the country.
Demir added that he had become a target of radical Islamists who consider him an “infidel” because he preaches peace rather than violent jihad.
Claiming that he has alerted authorities on multiple times about threats from the radicals, he said: “Those in charge do not want to see the problems in the prisons and the associated danger to our society.”
The imam has also proposed a solution to the growing radicalisation. “The solution would be simple: extremists would be isolated in single cells and at the same time deradicalised,” he said.
Fears of radicalisation in Austrian prisons came to the fore last month after it was revealed that extremist literature was found at the Korneuburg prison. The incident led the government to sever ties with the Islamic Religious Community in Austria (IGGÖ) which had been in charge of the stocking of Islamic texts in prisons since 2010.
In France, the prison system has also been heavily criticised as a breeding ground for radical Islamism.
Last month, a plot was uncovered involving inmates at Fresnes prison who were not only plotting terror attacks to be committed upon their release but had even smuggled in mobile phones which they used to communicate with Islamic State.”

And, when asked about private sector people being fired much, much faster than Conyers — who isn’t resigning or being expelled — CBC member Jim Clyburn asked, regarding private sector people, “Who voted for them?”
In other words: You shouldn’t resign or be expelled because people voted for you. As an elected official, you have more latitude to sexually harass people, not less, compared to mere private sector CEOs and producers and anchors and such.
