Pakistan Islamists rally on after deadly clashes with police (abcnews, Nov 26, 2017)

“Pakistani Islamists are pressing ahead with their rally near Islamabad in even larger numbers, a day after clashes with police left six dead and dozens wounded.
Meanwhile, police and paramilitary units are readying for another expected crackdown on Sunday, after security forces failed to disperse the protesters when riot police moved in with tear gas and batons on Saturday. Hospital officials said nearly 200 people were hurt, most of them police.
Elsewhere in Pakistan, Islamists have blocked major roads in solidarity with the Islamabad demonstrators.
Supporters of the small Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah party have been camped out for the last three weeks at a main intersection outside Islamabad, demanding the resignation of law minister over an omitted reference to the Prophet Muhammad in a parliamentary bill.”

With Germany in crisis, Europe-watchers contemplate an E.U. after Merkel
by Saphora Smith
LONDON — Germany has for decades been Europe’s pillar of stability, supporting the European Union through economic crises, pressures from immigration and the threat of a resurgent far-right.
But with Germany’s politics now in disarray — and the future of its chancellor Angela Merkel hanging in the balance — Europe risks losing its de facto leader, resulting in a power vacuum across the continent.
Europe-watchers are contemplating what protracted uncertainty in the country might mean for the E.U. and how it might fare if Merkel does not survive.
https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/brexit-referendum/germany-crisis-europe-watchers-contemplate-e-u-after-merkel-n823631
There is no slight irony in Europe so heavily relying upon its previous (and repeated) pariah state, Germany. While it is a distasteful comparison, the EU is like an abused spouse constantly returning to her wife-beater (and bread winning) husband.
The notion that Europe might go awry due to political unrest in Germany is simultaneously priceless and absurd.
German far-right relishes its power as Merkel struggles
Potsdam (Germany) (AFP) – The far-right Alternative for Germany party sees Chancellor Angela Merkel’s struggle to form a new government as proof of its growing power to upend the country’s political order, a top party official told AFP.
Parliamentary group leader Alexander Gauland said in an interview that the current turmoil showed that the four-year-old AfD had succeeded in its primary goal in September’s general election.
“It’s all downhill for Merkel now and that is partly our achievement,” Gauland said, sipping a glass of rose wine at a lakeside Italian restaurant in the eastern city of Potsdam.

SIS Group to Jihadists: ‘The Crusaders’ Feast is Approaching… Show Them the Meaning of Terrorism’
A pro-ISIS media group continued its online verbal jihad against the Vatican and Christmas today with a threat accompanied by an image of a jihadist and a wolf overlooking St. Peter’s Square.
On Tuesday, the Wafa’ Media Foundation released an image of smoke rising from Rome with a fighter jet overhead and a jihadist standing next to the sort of makeshift armored vehicle ISIS uses for suicide bombings in Iraq and Syria. “The date is approaching o worshippers of the cross,” states the message on the image.
The ISIS magazine Rumiyah — or Rome, reflecting the group’s apocalyptic vision and ultimate plans to sack the Vatican — hasn’t published a new issue since September. Their early e-book detailing the Rome conquest strategy predicted mob bosses would put up tough resistance: “There is no doubt that if Muslims want to take over Italy, the Islamic State European fighters will have to ally with other militias to fight the Mafia before the conquest of Rome.”

“A pro-ISIS media group continued its online verbal jihad against the Vatican…”
Too fecking hilarious! As
usualalways, Muslims bite the hand thatwanksfeeds them. Has there ever been a more appeasinganti-ChristPope than Francis? For Jihadists to destroy the Vatican would be like them demolishing one of their principal armories. Clearly, we are in an age of supreme irony.
More appeasing? No.
More anti-Christ? During the Dark Ages and the Renaissance probably. During those periods there were several Popes who were placed in the Vatican by various European Kings who saw great advantage in having a tame Pope. Plus several Popes who were more wanna be Emperors the representatives of God.
The Church has seen Popes come and go.
It’s managed to survive and continue to serve as a source of strength for millions of people everywhere.
This too shall pass.
I agree, I just hope that the artwork in the Vatican will survive. Although the Italians seem to be fighting back more then the French or Germans.
As Anti-Semitism Rises, ‘I Don’t Feel Safe in Australia,’ Rabbi Says
CANBERRA, Australia — On a Sunday afternoon in October, Rabbi Shmueli Feldman was hosting a small celebration at his home in a Canberra suburb. Suddenly, a car carrying four teenagers swerved in front of the house. One passenger leaned out the window and cursed Jews before the car sped off.
Rabbi Feldman reported the incident to the police and gave them the car’s license plate number, but nothing came of it.
“They said the men were drunk, and the driver wouldn’t tell them who yelled out the words, and there was nothing further they could do,” the rabbi said.
The list of anti-Semitic abuses directed at Rabbi Feldman and his community over the past year or two is long. He says he has been egged, and that a rock was thrown through his child’s bedroom window.
Objects have been hurled through the window of his Jewish center on several occasions: rocks, a chair and, in one instance, the building’s security camera. In May, he told the police that swastikas had been scrawled in a park near his synagogue, but the graffiti was not removed until August

Australia’s a big place, not a neighborhood in Paris. His feelings of insecurity reflect his personal frailty and political immaturity. Jews are no longer confined to ghettos, dependent on the goodwill of the king, tsar, church hierarchy.

Gold trader’s trial strains U.S.-Turkey relations
STANBUL/NEW YORK (Reuters) – A trial which has strained Turkish-U.S. ties before it even started opens this week in New York despite the possible absence of a defendant who Turkey says is cooperating with prosecutors in what it calls “a clear plot” against Ankara.
Turkish-Iranian gold trader Reza Zarrab, charged with conspiring to evade U.S. sanctions on Iran, has dropped out of sight in the last two months, prompting Turkey’s prime minister to suggest he has reached a plea deal with U.S. authorities.
James Margolin, a spokesman for U.S. prosecutors in Manhattan, declined to comment on whether Zarrab was cooperating with the authorities. A lawyer for Zarrab, Benjamin Brafman, declined to comment for this article.
Zarrab and eight other people, including Turkey’s former economy minister and three executives of Turkish state-owned Halkbank, have been charged with engaging in transactions worth hundreds of millions of dollars for Iran’s government and Iranian entities from 2010 to 2015 in a scheme to evade U.S. sanctions.

Florida: Fed court voids verdict because jurors weren’t vetted for gay bias
By LU Staff November 25, 2017
A federal court has thrown out a Florida jury’s verdict clearing police of misconduct charges, claiming the jury hadn’t been vetted for homophobia and may have been biased against the gay plaintiff.
Raymond Berthiaume accused Lt. David Smith of the Key West Police Department of framing him for battery by forcing his friend to make false testimony in 2013, the Miami Herald reported. While the jury cleared Smith of wrongdoing, a federal appellate court tossed out the verdict because the district court had “refused” to ask potential jurors questions about potential bias based on sexual orientation. Berthiaume will now receive a second trial.
“The district court here asked the jurors multiple questions about any biases or prejudices they might have against law enforcement,” reads the decision by the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. “But the district court refused to ask any questions at all about prejudice on the basis of sexual orientation. Therefore, we have no way to discern whether the jury was biased against the plaintiff for that reason.”

Ruling in favor of military sex changes ignores Supreme Court precedent
By Jerome Woehrle November 25, 2017
The Supreme Court ruled in Geduldig v. Aiello (1974) that the Constitution’s equal protection clause doesn’t require the government to accommodate sex-related conditions, such as pregnancy. Non-discrimination is not the same thing as accommodation. Yet a judge in Baltimore somehow ruled Tuesday that the equal protection clause gives transgender members of the military the right to sex-change operations at taxpayer expense. Judge Marvin Garbis’s decision in Stone v. Trump is simply wrong to ignore controlling Supreme Court authority.
That’s not the only reason Judge Garbis’s decision was wrong. His ruling treated discrimination against transgender service members as being subject to the same heightened scrutiny that applies to sex-based discrimination.

Federal Judge Overturns Texas Ban on Dismemberment Abortions
A federal judge has struck down a Texas law that bans second-trimester dismemberment abortions, those in which an unborn baby is “torn limb from limb” and then extracted from the uterus.
U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel ruled that banning dismemberment abortion – a form of “D&E” (dilation and evacuation) abortion – places an “undue burden” upon women.
“The State’s valid interest in promoting respect for the life of the unborn, although legitimate, is not sufficient to justify such a substantial obstacle to the constitutionally protected right of a woman to terminate a pregnancy before fetal viability,” the judge wrote.
In a medical animation video provided by pro-life organization Live Action, former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino demonstrates a second-trimester D&E abortion during which the abortionist uses instruments to remove the limbs from an unborn baby, between 13 to 24 weeks into a pregnancy, prior to extraction from the uterus:

Gov’t Confirms US Jihadi Cult Under Investigation
A U.S. government agency confirmed in a letter to the Clarion Project that an investigation into a terror-linked Islamist cult named Muslims of America (MOA) is ongoing. The group is known for its “Islamic villages” in North America, with its “Islamberg” headquarters receiving the most attention.
The October 19 letter from the Justice Department’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) states that 10 documents from a previous investigation into MOA must be withheld because “the investigation related to the documents that were referred is still open.”
The Justice Department says that releasing the information could interfere with law enforcement proceedings as they concern an “ongoing investigation.”
Muslims of America (MOA) used to be known as Jamaat ul-Fuqra when it carried out a series of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil from the 1970s to the early 1990s. The group is led by a radical cleric in Pakistan and claims to have 22 “villages” in the U.S., some of which are known to have been used for basic military-type training.

Jamaat ul-Fuqra – just as bad in their American reincarnation MOA. Clarion’s on the job, though!

Jihadis Imperil Europe – Under Threat From Shiites, Sunnis
Europe is under threat from both radical Shiites and Sunnis – Iran and ISIS respectively.
In a rare move, the Iranian Shiite regime issued threats against Europe in response to France calling for “uncompromising” dialogue with the Islamic Republic regarding its ballistic missile program.
France maintains it is entirely committed to the nuclear deal negotiated between Iran and world powers in 2015. However, in an interview earlier this month, French President Emmanuel Macron said, “It is important to remain firm with Iran over its regional activities and ballistics program.”
Iran rejects any attempt to curb the development of its ballistic missiles, which are the primary way nuclear weapons are delivered.
“If we have kept the range of our missiles to 2,000 kilometers, it’s not due to lack of technology…We are following a strategic doctrine,” said Brig.-Gen. Hossein Salami, head of the Revolutionary Guards, yesterday Nov.25, 2017.

Time to Drain the Swamp – Also in Europe
by Geert Wilders

Next month, I will be visiting Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. I have been invited to speak to a group of Czech patriots. The Czechs are a freedom loving people. In 2011, on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Ronald Reagan, they named a street in Prague after this great American president and freedom fighter.
This fact reminded me of a shameful event in my home town of The Hague, the seat of the Dutch Parliament and the government of the Netherlands. Look for a Ronald Reagan Street in The Hague and you will find none. A proposal in 2011 to name a street in The Hague after Reagan ran into fierce political opposition. Leftist parties, such as Labor, the Greens and the liberal D66 party, argued that naming a street in honor of Reagan would “do the image of the city no good.” The whole affair ended in a disgraceful political compromise. Last year, a short stretch of a local bicycle path was named the “Reagan and Gorbachev Lane”.
This anecdote is indicative of the difference between East and West in Europe. We can see the same difference in the attitude of their ruling elites towards Islam, the new totalitarianism that is threatening Europe today. In the East, political leaders oppose Islam; in the West, they surrender.
The only Ronald Reagan statue outside California is in Budapest!
Lebanon: Is Cheat-and-Retreat Back on the Menu?

The Arab League holds an emergency meeting on Lebanon. France and the United States agree to work together to contain the Lebanese Hezbollah. Russia indicates support for compromise. Iran’s official government invites everyone to “joint diplomatic efforts” while the unofficial government promises fire and brimstone against attempts at curbing Hezbollah.
These recent Middle East headlines remind me of “The Adventures of Emir Arsalan The Famous”, a popular Persian picaresque novel written in the 19th century.
At one point the eponymic hero, searching the world for the great beauty Farrokh-Laqa who may be nothing but a fantasy, feels as if his life has become a constant repetition of exactly the same events and images.
The novel’s conceit echoes the Pythagorean theory of “eternal recurrence,” according to which whatever is going to happen has already happened again and again.

Police say there have been no serious injuries and no arrests.
Supporters of soccer club PAOK, based in the northern city of Thessaloniki, had gathered early Sunday afternoon in Omonia Square, in the Athens center, before a league game against Panionios.

‘Mawlid an Nabi’, prophet Muhammad’s birthday, falls on the 12th day of the Rabi’ al-awwal month in the Islamic calendar.
One of the organisers, Hafiz Hasanet Ahmed, invited people of all faiths to join the festivities and, “see how peaceful and what true Muslims are like.” According Ahmed, Walthamstow’s ‘Mawlid an Nabi’ is the biggest of its kind in Europe, with people travelling from all corners of the continent to attend.

Saudi Arabia: Crown Prince opens anti-terror summit for 40 Muslim nations
Saudi Arabia hosted an Islamic Counter-Terrorism Summit for defence ministers and other senior military officials from 40 Muslim countries in Riyadh on Sunday.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told the gathering: “The last few years, terrorism was at work in all of our countries and most of these groups work in several countries without there being a strong coordination between Muslim countries – but now we have this alliance. So today more than 40 Muslim countries send a strong signal that we are going to work together and coordinate together to support each other.”
He expressed condolences for Egypt following the mosque attack, which took lives of more than 300 people and left over a hundred injured. “We assure you that we will stand with Egypt and all the countries that fight terrorism and extremism,” underlined Mohammed bin Salman.
Tribal, transnational loyalties are THE most important factors in foreign policy. There are kin groupings within Lebanon, Mesopotamia, Jordan, the KSA, and everwhere else. Matched against rival, enemy clans.
All this is highly fluid: roll-up your carpet, take down the tent, mount your camel. Easy come, easy go. Take vengeance later.
Russia, US, EU, et al. count only to the extent clan chieftains trust them, and that varies over time. No outsider is really trustworthy, but the leverage they can bring to bear is a factor. And that’s largely subjective – not measured in absolute resources, but rather by projection of a forceful image.
It results in one long catalogue of mistakes in judgement. For example, King Hussein of Jordan knew better than to join Nasser’s coalition against Israel in 1967, but Nasser wove a spell.
It was an unnatural alliance: the King was Beduin, he detested pan-national Arabism (including that later dubbed “Palestinian”), as much as the Soviet sponsor.
A novel entity emerged from that defeat – the PLO. King Hussein wound up having to kill off lots of them, and they will hate his entire clan forever. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Black_September
You can’t do analysis of the region without learning something about the basic tribal structures. The British used to be pretty good at it way back when. The model of emirates is one of the few that actually works (e.g. the UAE).
Still, we’re not talking Egypt or Turkey, but tribal Mohammadans. Their nature is Other: step-sibling rivalries, honor-shame ethos, and zero-sum games. They can put up a flag and print their own currency, but that doesn’t make them nations.

For Saudi Arabia, All Politics Is Local
The recent political shake-up in Saudi Arabia extends beyond the kingdom’s borders. On Nov. 4, Lebanese PM Saad al-Hariri resigned from office unexpectedly after being hastily summoned to Riyadh. Reports that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman coerced Hariri, a Saudi citizen, to step down while in custody created a wave of international backlash.
Officials from the UK, the EU and Germany all spoke out, condemning Saudi Arabia’s meddling in Lebanon’s domestic politics.…
In the midst of the controversy over its blockades of Qatar and Yemen, as well as its intensive anti-corruption campaign at home, Saudi Arabia’s interference in Lebanon’s affairs may seem reckless. Whatever the kingdom’s motive for pressuring al-Hariri to leave his office, the crisis that the move incited seems to outweigh any potential benefits. But in the tradition of Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy, the product of a millennium of tribal interaction in the vast Arabian Desert, the gambit appears perfectly rational.
The Tribal Foundations of Foreign Policy
Tribal politics has always played a prominent role in Arab affairs. The creation of Abdul-Aziz Al Saud’s kingdom in 1932 established the Saudis as the pre-eminent political tribe on the Arabian Peninsula. As such, the Saudis exerted their power over the region’s lesser tribes, including the al-Maadhid tribe from which Qatar’s ruling al-Thani family hails. Saudi royals expect the al-Thanis to unquestioningly fall in line with their policies as a result, in keeping with the time-honored tribal code.
Transnational nomadic tribes that originate in Saudi Arabia also constitute an important component of the kingdom’s regional policy. The dispersal of Saudi tribes beyond the kingdom’s geographic borders in large part determines the extent of Riyadh’s influence in the surrounding area. In 1996, for example, the Saudi government used its ties with the al-Murrah tribe that dwells on both sides of the kingdom’s border with Qatar to organize an attempted coup against Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. Saudi Arabia likewise owes what little sway it has in Jazira, along the Syrian-Iraqi border, to the Shammar tribe that lives in the region but has roots in the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia’s focus on local relations has given rise to a narrow perspective in which the needs of the ruling tribe take precedence above all. By that logic, it doesn’t matter that al-Hariri is the prime minister of another country because he is also a bearer of the Saudi nationality. His loyalty to the Saudi royal family must override his official title in another country.…

Lebanon is one of the hardest countries in the world to make sense of sometimes, even for experts, because there are easily ten different versions of every event, nearly everyone lies, and your average Lebanese media organ is a tribal sectarian fusion of Breitbart, Alex Jones and Pravda.

DAILY MAIL – Criminal justice college embroiled in battle with the Pentagon over an art exhibit with works from Guantanamo Bay detainees after the Department of Defense wants the collection incinerated
Artwork from detainees of Guantanamo Bay are on display at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City
The Pentagon is looking to have the art destroyed after an abrupt policy change regarding prisoner art
Pieces by the terror suspects have particularly upset families of 9/11 victims being on display at a school that many in law enforcement who died attended
A petition has begun by a professor at the college who helped curate the exhibit
The petition to the DoD reads ‘Let them know that burning art is something done by fascist and terrorist regimes — but not by the American people’
‘They created this art under strict regulations,’ Thompson told The Post. ‘They cannot produce violent images or anything that might contain a hidden message. Every blank sheet of paper . . . had to be inspected and cleared for use.’
Most of the work is paintings of seascapes and flowers created by the detainees who were shackled at the ankle to their cell floors.
Some crafted model boats were also part of the collection.
Many pieces showed an obsession with the sea– particularly by detainees from landlocked countries.
Thompson says potential buyers are referred to the detainees’ lawyers.
She added prices ‘were in the hundreds of dollars’ for works, but she did not know if any had been sold.

EGYPT – We cannot declare Rawda mosque attacks infidels: Azhar spokesman
Al-Azhar spokesman Abbas Shuman said that the al-Rawda mosque attackers had “exposed themselves” of having no religion by carrying out the attack and that no one, including Al-Azhar, should therefore not need to accuse them of being non-Muslim infidels.
In a phone call to the television show “Hadrat Al Mowaten” (Your Excellency the Citizen), Shuman accused the terrorists of being “hired to destroy Egypt”.
Responding to a question as to why al-Azhar has not declared the attackers as infidels, Shuman said, “it is not within the power of Al-Azhar to declare the attackers of Al-Rawda as infidels. Al-Azhar does not judge people, because this opens doors we cannot close.”
The statement prompted a forceful response from prominent television presenter Amr Adib, who issued a vicious attack against Al-Azhar, saying, “why aren’t you declaring them as infidels? Don’t you realize these people have millions of followers who they convince of their ideas using the Quran and Sunna [sayings of the prophet]?”
Others have also criticized Al-Azhar for its stance. On Saturday, a series of Al-Azhar scholars together with a host of political and social movements, urged the religious institution to issue a declaration against the attackers to brand them as infidels.
“The crimes of these terrorist groups have crossed a red line. Destroying houses of God is a major crime. Al-Azhar has to issue a strong response to these people by declaring them as infidels,” a statement by a variety of societal currents read.
Meanwhile, religious groups, including Sufi orders, have announced the launch of a religious campaign, demanding the Islamic State to be declared as infidels.
Sheikh Alaa Abu Al-Azaem, head of World Union for Sufi Orders, stressed that the members of the Islamic State are not Muslims because of their anti-Islamic views , which he described as “destructive”.
In response to the critics, Al- Azhar called for an urgent meeting with the country’s prominent Islamic leaders to discuss whether or not to issue a “fatwa” declaring Daesh as infidels.
A number of Al-Azhar scholars have supported the initiative, despite Al-Azhar’s official stance.
Abdel Rehim Mohamed, member of Al-Azhar said, “there is evidence from the Quran and Sunna that confirms the infidelity of terrorist organizations. Prophet Muhammed (PbuH) spoke about them saying, ‘There will come in the end of time, a people who are young and stupid who determine who is better by reading the Quran… if you see them, fight them, if you kill them, God rewards you on judgment day.’”
Friday’s attack, seen as the deadliest in Egypt’s recent history, killed 308 people and wounded another 128, according to the latest updates from the Ministry of Health.

Egyptian TV host suspended over comments on N. Sinai mosque attack
Owner of Sada al-Balad Media Group Mohamed Abu al-Enein has suspended one of its TV hosts Rasha Magdi and referred her to an internal investigation over inappropriate comments she made on air regarding Friday’s terrorist attack on the al-Rawda mosque in North Sinai.
Magdi went off script during her show on the privately-owned Sada al-Balad TV channel on Friday, describing terrorist attacks against the army and police as “mutual violence,” while suggesting that attacks against Christians are more understandable than attacks against Muslims.
“We saw attacks by terrorists on the police and army, and we said this is mutual violence. These extremist groups have attacked churches and we said that they think it is a [different] religion, not Islam, and it is hostile to them, and then we said it is okay, but how [can these groups attack] Muslims?,
” Magdi said.
When Magdi worked for the state television network, several legal cases were filed against her for inciting hatred against Egypt’s Copic Christians, particularly regarding the killing by the Egyptian army of more than 25 Christians during what has become known as the Maspero massacre.
Abu El-Enein issued a statement on Saturday evening hailing the Egyptian police and army following Friday’s attack.
“The entire Egyptian people stand united behind our valiant armed forces and the heroic police forces and, God willing, we will win in our battle against these cowards,” the statement read.
“All of us, leaders and people, reject terrorism in all of its forms on any part of Egypt or anywhere in the world,” it went on to say.
“We in Egypt are one people, there is no difference between a Muslim and a Christian. All of us are equal. We live together in safety. […] terrorism and aggression against the [people] are criminal acts,” the statement concluded.

Does anyone else get a sense of intense irony that Egypt—home to “terrorist central” Al-Azhar University—is experiencing the usual Islamic festivities?
If 0bama’s, “I made clear that America is not and will never be at war with Islam”, speech at that “august institution” (yes, those are sneer quotes) did not embolden the West’s most dire enemies, I find it difficult to imagine what will.
Even Bush 2.0’s kissyface relationship with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia cannot compete with 0bama’s belly-up cringing towards Islam. All the same, may both of them rot in everlasting hell without distinction.
But I have a fondness for Egypt and Egyptians.
Yes, they’re Mohammadan Arabs, but they’re not jumped-up camel-drivers. Different people altogether. Egypt had a large Sephardic community for hundreds of years, besides the indigenous Mizrachi Jews who had lived there for millennia.
Aristocratic Muslim ladies used to belong to the same social clubs, study Spanish together with Ladino-speaking Jews. Ladino recitals still attract a fine audience. But you’d avoid going there with a passport stamped ‘Israel’.
Nowadays you wouldn’t go there at all. Their tourist revenue is down at least 80%. El-Sisi does the best he can, but Egypt needs money badly. 0 was starving them to avenge his MBros.
If El-Sisi survives he will be a valuable ally of KSA because of the number of people they can make available as soldiers.
Yes Egypt needs money and food. Things are as serious as they are in several of the Northern Sub-Saharan Africa but they are getting there. This is one of the reasons Egypt is upset over the new dam that is diverting water that could be used to irrigate land in Egypt. Sudan and Ethiopia need the water for irrigation as much as Egypt if not more so. This problem has added another flash point to the region.
Yeah, well Egypt isn’t eager to supply cannon fodder for camel-driver princelings.
El-Sisi wasn’t going to throw his kids away on Syrian soil fighting a pipeline war to benefit Gulf potentates.[*] He owes no fealty to those clans. Egypt isn’t a confection of make-believe kings and the oil companies that invented them. Nor is it a subdivision of Sykes-Picot.
Bow-wow to a sand-n- -? Peddle that in Peshawar.
The great _Sunni_ cause? That’s a cynical joke. Iran has supported al-Queda and the MB. Hamas is murdering Egyptian police using Shitte-funded weapons. Hamas gets tunnel-building lessons from Hezbollah.
Ragheads and Twisted-Ragheads: Equal-opportunity exploiters of the gullible and low-IQ faithful. Allah-akbar-ing crazies, violent sadists who love death more than life.
El-Sisi is nobody’s fool.
After he made that clear to the GCC, they cut off money and oil Egypt needed desperately. Just as 0 and the Turk punished him for overthrowing the evil MBros. While tourism sunk like a stone. The most populous Arab country left to starve and nobody cared. So much for Sunni solidarity.
________
[*] Though promoting birth-control is a high priority of El-Sisi.
The “Arab Street” – a term I hate, because the streets are so distinct, so ok the “Egyptian Street” – dislikes the Gulf Arabs intensely. They are not at all natural allies.
Just one recent example (transl.):
The Egypt-Saudi dispute over a resolution to the Syria crisis goes public

They have the same enemies, enlightened self interest says cooperate to survive, just don’t trust your ally not to stab you in the back when that act is to their advantage.
We tend to think in straight lines and about good guys and bad guys. I don’t know as much about that region as you do but I know that they rarely think in straight lines and that distrust and betrayal is part of the culture. Having said that your greater knowledge has a much better chance of being right then my guesses. Thanks for the lesson.
It’s unbelievably complicated.
The West pays more attention to the Gulf because of oil, but the population center of the Arab world is Egypt. That’s also the most rooted in national identity. The MB is acutely aware of that, won’t stop trying to destabilize the government.
Just as we tried to keep the Soviets out, we should be reinforcing the secular government of Egypt. Too bad U.S. DOS[wap] is still working for the other side. Fortunately, they’ve got Israel.
Though they’ve been marinating so long in Jew-hate, all help has to be covered up.
Distrust and betrayal.
Too many wives, too much competition among step-siblings. Exponentially increased by inbreeding.
Kinky.

29-year-old man believed to have been intoxicated smashed his car deliberately into a group of people standing outside a disco in a northern German town Sunday, injuring six, police said.
The driver then crashed into a bollard some 300 metres (yards) away and was held down by passers-by until officers arrived, media reports said.
Police in Cuxhaven issued a statement ruling out a terrorist motive.
“The investigation shows that a dispute in or outside a Cuxhaven nightclub could be the reason for the incident,” the statement said, citing witnesses.

2 blasts damage Serbs’ houses, cars in Kosovo’s Mitrovica (abcnews, Nov 26, 2017)
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/blasts-damage-serbs-houses-cars-kosovos-mitrovica-51393489
“Police say two explosions in Kosovo’s northern Mitrovica region, where most of the ethnic Serb minority lives in the country, have caused material damage but no injuries.
A statement says that two separate explosions from hand grenades early Sunday damaged the houses of two ethnic Serbs and three nearby cars in Zubin Potok, 55 kilometers (35 miles) north of the capital, Pristina. The two Serbs work for Kosovo’s security forces.
No arrests have been made, and authorities continue to investigate.
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj denounced the attack as “an unacceptable act … aiming at keeping the country’s citizens under tension.”
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, which Belgrade hasn’t recognized, and seeks to maintain influence in Serb-dominated northern Kosovo.”
Pakistani Islamists clash with police, paralyse cities (reuters, Nov 26, 2017)
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-pakistan-protests/pakistani-islamists-clash-with-police-paralyse-cities-idUSKBN1DQ06A
“A hard-line Islamist party’s activists clashed with security forces in Pakistan’s capital and other cities on Sunday, officials said, paralysing Islamabad a day after a failed clearing operation killed several people and wounded some 150.
The religious activists, who accuse a government minister of blasphemy for a change in the wording of an electoral oath, burned several vehicles outside the capital before withdrawing in an uneasy stand-off at a protest camp they have occupied for two weeks, police said.
Despite orders from the civilian government to the army on Saturday night to help restore order, no military troops were at the scene around the protest camp in Faizabad, on the outskirts of the capital, witnesses said.
The military’s press department did not respond to queries about the government’s order.
On Sunday evening, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqabal said the paramilitary Rangers force would be authorized to handle the demonstrations.
At least seven people, including a policeman, were killed on the previous day, when several thousand security forces tried to disperse the protesters, according to local media reports and a provincial official
At least 187 people were wounded in Saturday’s clashes, said the provincial official who asked not to be named. Police superintendent Amir Niazi said at least 80 members of the security forces were among those wounded.
Throughout Sunday, baton-armed supporters of the Tehreek-e-Labaik party blocked several main highways, roads and arteries in major Pakistani cities, paralysing traffic and daily life.
In the eastern city of Lahore thousands of the Islamists camped outside the provincial parliament and attacked the house of a minister, prompting police to fire teargas shells, a Reuters reporter witnessed.
Just outside Lahore in Faisalabad city, their supporters attacked and tried to torch the house of another minister, police official Niaz Mirza said.
Smoke billowed from the charred remains of a car and three motorcycles burned on Sunday morning near the protest camp.
On Saturday, protesters also torched seven prison trucks, three police vans, a television van and a gas station – all of which were seen still smouldering the next day.
FAILED CRACKDOWN
Activists from Tehreek-e-Labaik have blocked the main road into the capital for the past two weeks in protest after blaming the law minister Zahid Hamid for changing the wording in an electoral oath proclaiming Mohammad to be the last prophet of Islam from “I solemnly swear” to “I believe”, a change the party says amounts to blasphemy.
The government blamed the change on a clerical error and swiftly changed the language back.
“Our movement has spread across the country,” Tehreek-e-Labaik spokesman Ejaz Ashrafi told Reuters on Sunday.
“Thousands more people have joined us. We will remain here until our demands are met.”
Led by cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi, Labaik is one of two new ultra-religious political movements that have risen to prominence in recent months. Labaik, which campaigns to maintain Pakistan’s strict blasphemy laws, won a surprisingly strong 6 percent and 7.6 percent of the votes in two recent by-elections.
While Islamist parties are unlikely to win a majority they could play a major role in elections that must be held by the summer of next year.
Laibak was born out of a protest movement lionizing Mumtaz Qadri, a bodyguard of the governor of Punjab province who gunned down his boss in 2011 over his call to reform strict blasphemy laws.
By Sunday afternoon orders had been issued to lift a block imposed the day before on private TV stations and social media services.
After Saturday’s failed crackdown by police, the government called for military assistance “for law and order duty according to the constitution”.
However, there has been no public statement from the military in response and no sign that any troops had left their barracks.
On Saturday before the government order, Pakistan’s army chief called on the civilian government to end the protest while “avoiding violence from both sides”, the military press wing said.
The ruling party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif – who was disqualified by the Supreme Court in July and is facing a corruption trial – has a history of difficulties with the military, which in 1999 launched a coup to oust Sharif from an earlier term.
Minister of Interior Iqbal said on Sunday that the operation wasn’t carried out under his supervision, saying city police acted directly on court orders.
“I was of the view that we should give negotiations two, three more days,” he told local Geo TV.
Iqbal had said on Saturday the protests were part of a conspiracy to weaken the government, which is now run by Sharif’s allies under a new prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
“There are attempts to create a chaos in (the) country,” Iqbal said on state-run Pakistan TV.”

Terrorist travellers can be rehabilitated, leading expert insists
OTTAWA — A leading researcher on terrorist travellers says returnees to Canada can be rehabilitated, as those who come back to their home countries are often disillusioned or traumatized.
Lorne Dawson, sociology professor at the University of Waterloo, says others feel they have done their duty to defend Muslim lands and want to lead a more normal life.
Dawson, project director for the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society, says rehabilitation requires careful effort, but Canada has been slow in building this capacity.
Canada’s spy agency has said it is aware of 180 individuals with a nexus to Canada who are suspected of terrorist activity abroad.
Half of these individuals are believed to have travelled to Syria or Iraq.
Dawson says his researchers know of about a dozen jihadist returnees to Canada from the Syrian-Iraqi conflict.
