    “The European Union (EU) intends to allocate about EUR 40 billion of investment in Africa in its next budget, announced European Parliament President Antonio Tajani on Monday.

    Speaking at a joint press conference following his speech at the Tunisian parliament in Bardo Palace, Tajani said that the investment has the possibility to change Africa’s destiny.

    “We need EUR 40 billion to generate EUR 400 billion of leverage,” Tajani said, noting that the EUR 3.7 billion allocated in the current budget has been insufficient.

    The European leader said that “Europe must choose a real Marshall Plan for Africa” by developing opportunities and investment in the continent, which he believes would be essential in the fight against undocumented migration to Europe.

    “You have to understand why there are thousands or even millions of people in the future who could leave their country and come to your home [in Tunisia] and beyond it,” added Tajani.

    The president stressed the imperative of fighting youth unemployment and the temptations of illegal migration or radicalization, which won’t be possible without building infrastructure, helping small and medium-sized businesses, and promoting young Africans entrepreneurs.

    Tajani also called for action to provide migrants with opportunities for a decent life, hence the need for investment, noting that “no one wants to leave their hometown, but if that city suffers from poverty and unemployment, migration thus becomes the only way out.”

    “Words won’t convince migrants to stay at home. We must give them a chance to have a decent life,” he said.”

  15. Unauthorized drones are buzzing a Washington, D.C. military base twice a day, study finds

    Unauthorized drones are flying an average of twice a day above critical military infrastructure just 4 miles from the White House, according to new study from drone-detection start-up Dedrone and the Department of Defense.

    “This is a concerning rate,” Dedrone CEO Jorg Lamprecht told CNBC, “especially in light of international incidents where drones have crashed into other aircraft, and been used by terrorists, and used in other illicit activities.”

    In one recent example, the Islamic State used a small drone to bomb an ammunition dump at a stadium in Syria, setting off a chain of explosions. And this September, a civilian drone crashed into a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter.

  16. Hundreds of recruits get sick at Marine boot camp

    More than 300 recruits at the Marines’ boot camp in San Diego are suffering from diarrheal symptoms from an bacterial outbreak, officials disclosed on Tuesday.

    With most of the cases linked to Shiga toxin-producing E.coli bacteria physicians are treating 302 patients out of the more than 5,500 candidates undergoing training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot.

    “Our immediate focus is identifying, isolating and treating recruits who present symptoms,” said Brig. Gen. William Jurney, the commander of both the depot and the Corps’ Western Recruiting Region, in a written statement. “We are working to identify the cause of the sickness, making sure our affected recruits can return to training as soon as possible and continuing training for recruits not influenced.”

  17. Iran Threatens Ballistic Missile Strikes on American Forces, Can Hit ‘All U.S. Bases’
    Iran beefs up missile program as U.S. targets rocket research

    A top Iranian military commander has threatened to launch ballistic missile attacks on U.S. forces in the region amid a public effort by the Islamic Republic to show off its advanced missile capabilities, according to U.S. officials and regional reports.

    Iranian leaders disclosed that their advanced ballistic missile technology, which could be used as part of a nuclear weapons program, is sophisticated enough to strike U.S. forces up to nearly 1,300 miles, or 2,000 kilometers, away, which encompasses all U.S. bases in the region.

    The head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, announced on Tuesday that Iranian missiles can already “cover all U.S. bases in the region” and that Tehran has the capability to increase its missile power even further.

    “Based on the policies specified by the Leader [Ayatollah Khamenei], the range of our missiles is limited to 2,000km, but we have the capability to increase the range,” IRGC Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari said following an announcement by the country’s supreme leader that Iranian ballistic missile technology would be capped at this distance for the short term.

  18. Saudi Arabia takes first step towards nuclear plant tender: sources

    ABU DHABI/KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia has sent a request for information (RFI) to international suppliers to build two nuclear power plants, a first step towards a formal tender, three sources said.

    The kingdom is considering building 17.6 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear capacity by 2032, the equivalent of about 17 reactors, making it one of the biggest prospects for an industry struggling after the 2011 nuclear disaster in Japan.

    The world’s biggest exporter of oil wants to reduce the amount of crude it burns at home to generate electricity so it can sell more of it overseas.

    “Saudi Arabia has just sent the request for information to various companies and it is being examined,” one industry source told Reuters, adding that firms had about two months to respond.

    A second industry source confirmed that Saudi authorities had sent an RFI, which is a request to nuclear vendors to submit non-binding offers to build a nuclear reactor.

    After months of getting themselves worked up about hearings featuring a hero once accused of rigging the election for Donald Trump and Don Jr.’s inability to sniff out Nigerian prince emails, spectators of the Russia game have finally gotten what they wanted: indictments.

    Unfortunately, the indictments of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his business partner Richard Gates have nothing whatever to do with “collusion,” however broadly defined. Politically speaking, we have learned nothing except what we already knew: namely, that a shady businessman who briefly worked for the Trump campaign is, in fact, a very shady businessman indeed, one who has just pled not guilty to failing to register as a foreign agent on behalf of the Ukrainian puppet government and not declaring all of his income derived from his essentially pro-Kremlin lobbying.

  21. Mueller got Manafort’s attorney to speak against him once. He may try the tactic again.

    A little-noticed court filing unsealed this week as part of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s ongoing probe could have big consequences for his other targets — showing he’s willing to use suspects’ lawyers to provide evidence against them.

    After unsealing a 12-count indictment against President Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, the U.S. District Court also unsealed an opinion from Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell saying one of Manafort’s former lawyers could be compelled to testify to the grand jury.

    Typically, such information is protected by attorney-client privilege — a bedrock principle of U.S. legal practice that says a lawyer must keep confidential what they are told by their clients.

    There are some exceptions to that confidentiality, including in instances where a suspect may have lied to his or her lawyer, causing that lawyer to unwittingly lie to the government. Howell ruled that in Manafort’s case, the exception applied and the attorney could be called to testify before the grand jury.

  22. Facebook, Twitter: Russian actors sought to undermine Trump after election

    Top lawyers from Facebook and Twitter said Tuesday that Russian-linked posts and advertisements placed on the social networks after Election Day sought to sow doubt about President Donald Trump’s victory.

    Facebook general counsel Colin Stretch told a Senate Judiciary panel that content generated by a Russian troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency after Nov. 8 centered on “fomenting discord about the validity of [Trump’s] election.” That’s a change from Russia’s pre-election activity, which was largely centered on trying to denigrate Hillary Clinton, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a January report.

  24. Russian bombers heading for US warship INTERCEPTED by fighter jets near North Korea

    VLADIMIR Putin ordered two nuclear bombers to fly towards a US aircraft carrier stationed near North Korea in a brazen display of his air power.

    Putin’s nuclear-capable “Bears” were stopped just 80 miles away from the vessel, the USS Ronald Reagan, in the Sea of Japan.

    US President Donald Trump has sent three aircraft carriers – the USS Ronald Reagan, USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Nimitz – ahead of his visit to the region later this week.

    The interception of the Russian bombers was considered to be “safe and professional” by US officials.

    But the incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Pacific with the US, China, Russia and North Korea looking to assert themselves.

    Beijing (AFP) – Chinese President Xi Jinping’s pledge to build a “world-class army” by 2050 is making his neighbours nervous, but analysts say Beijing’s military ambitions do not constitute a strategic threat — for now.

    With purchases and construction of fighter jets, ships and hi-tech weaponry, China’s military budget has grown steadily for 30 years, but remains three times smaller than that of the United States.

    Now, Beijing wants to catch up.

    “We should strive to fully transform the people’s armed forces into a world-class military by the mid-21st century,” Xi told 2,300 delegates of the Chinese Communist Party, which he heads and which controls the army.

    • The idiot who wrote the article is confusing money spent equaling military competence, it is first and foremost the quality of the troops and the amount of training they get and second the quality of the weapons they use.

      Second Point: The other nations in the Far East started getting worried while the Clintons were in office and cutting our military and betraying our allies. This changed to an extent while W was in office but when Obama took over we went back to letting China do what it wanted. This has caused Japan to start slowly rearming and to start making alliances with other Far Eastern Nations to counter China. They have learned that the left in the US isn’t to be trusted and that if/when they gain power they will betray all other nation that we have alliances with.

  27. Tunisia: Muslim stabs two police near Tunis parliament

    A suspected radical Islamist Muslim who stabbed two policemen with a knife near the Tunisian parliament building was arrested on Wednesday.

    According to the Interior Ministry, the attacker was known to authorities and said after the aggression that he viewed the police as “tyrants.”

    One of the policemen was wounded in the neck and treated in hospital, while the other received light wounds, the statement added.

    A large number of police were deployed to the scene of the attack in Bardo square. Bloodstains can be seen on the ground in footage.

  28. USA: Seven arrested as clashes break out after Milo speaks at Cal State Fullerton

    Dozens of people protested a speech by controversial right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos at California State University in Fullerton on Tuesday.

    Clashes between the Englishman’s supporters, around 600 attended the event, and his opponents led to at least seven arrests, according to the university.

    In his speech, Yiannopoulos drew attention to situation of politically conservative students on campus. “When it comes to oppressed communities and marginalised groups, there is no tribe in America at greater risk – physical and existential risk – than the campus conservative”, he said.

    He also mentioned Hollywood’s widening sexual harassment crisis, including recent events regarding actor Kevin Spacey and the alleged assault of a 14-year-old boy.

Among the openings the organization seeks to fill is IT systems administrator. That’s a title formerly held by a man named Imran Awan. an acquaintance the DNC surely regrets ever having made.

    You can see the entire list of jobs in the following screenshot of an email sent out by Data Services Manager Madeleine Leader, a copy of which Elliott Hamilton of the Daily Wire managed to obtain and post on Twitter. You will notice that some of the information about the sender has been crossed out. But you’ll also notice that one section of the email has been highlighted. It reads:

    I personally would prefer that you not forward to cisgender straight white males, since they’re already in the majority.

  47. Russian Facebook trolls organized protest attended by thousands

    For an effort that was supposedly intended to get Donald Trump elected, the “Russian interference” in the United States in 2016 seems to have been interestingly eclectic.

    We ran a headline the week before last about some of the activist events that were not merely promoted but actually created by Russian troll accounts on social media.

    Now The Hill is reporting more on one of the online groups started by Russian trolls (according to Facebook). The group was called BlackMattersUS, and focused on the same issues as Black Lives Matter.

    The Hill reports that BlackMattersUS put together an anti-Trump protest in New York City just after the election. Between 5,000 and 10,000 people participated in the protest – which had been “organized” not by a genuine American activist group, but by the online trolls.
