According to the National Post, performer Lido Pimienta, who won the 2017 Polaris Prize, frequently asks all white members of her audience to move to the back and give up their seats to non-white audience members. They must do so regardless of whether they pay more for their seating.
The Halifax Pop Explosion music festival is apologizing for the actions of a photographer who refused to acquiesce to Pimienta’s request during her October 19 show. Her refusal to do so was considered an “interruption” and deemed an act of “overt racism,” according to the festival’s board of directors, who are now promising to make changes to the event.
The board promises to improve “anti-oppression and anti-racism training” for their staff next year, essentially asking them to give in to the demands of people who supposedly face more oppression than they do.
“We are sorry that one of our volunteers interrupted your art, your show, and your audience by being aggressive and racist,” wrote vice-chairman Georgie Dudka on Facebook.
A mob of thousands from the feminist gathering marched through the city streets to the cathedral, vandalizing schools, businesses, monuments, and public buildings along the way. The militant man haters spray-painted graffiti with slogans such as “Kill your father, your boyfriend, and your brother,” “Burn the pope,” “Abuser priests,” “Abort males,” “Death to males,” and “Kill your rapist,” according to a report of the event from LifeSiteNews.
3. Warnings of ‘GLOBAL OUTBREAK’ of Black Death as PLAGUE continues to spread
HEALTH experts are warning there is “something different” about a new Black Death outbreak spreading across the world.
Some 1,300 cases of the pneumonic plague, which is transmitted by air, have now been confirmed.
An estimated 50 million lives were lost as a result of the Black Death epidemic of the 1300s.
And now the deadly disease has spread into more African countries after taking root in Madagascar.
Countries affected include South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Comoros, the Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion.

A Crisis Emergency Committee has been established in response to the outbreak, which will “coordinate surveillance, contact tracing, case management, isolation and supplies” until it is contained.
Air Seychelles, one of Madagascar’s biggest airlines, stopped flying earlier in the month, in an effort to contain the spread and airports are screening passengers to avoid spread of the plague.
Schools and businesses have been closed, and large public gatherings have been cancelled.

Of the 762 possible cases of plague pneumonia (the most serious form of the disease), 23% have been confirmed. Approximately 8% of those with possible plague have died. Health authorities have a low threshold for considering a respiratory illness to be plague because they do not want to miss any possible cases.

With the current situation in the country, which started with one Seychellois national testing positive for pneumonic plague after dying of respiratory illness whilst in Madagascar on 27th September, and another man becoming symptomatic on arrival in Seychelles on 6th October after holidaying in Madagascar, a total of 332 primary contacts and 631 secondary contacts have been registered and followed until 19th October. The contact tracing training forms part of the bigger national preparedness and response the Ministry of Health is undertaking in collaboration with WHO to strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals and volunteers to trace and follow up contacts, conduct timely detection and reporting of suspected cases.
