“Pakistan is learnt to have conveyed to the United States that it will call off its efforts in the Afghan reconciliation process if the Trump administration does not change its new policy of intimidation and coercion towards Islamabad.
It has been conveyed to the US administration through diplomatic channels that Pakistan will set its strategy for a peaceful Afghanistan in view of its national security policy, sources told Daily Express.
The civil and military leadership has expressed serious reservations over the new US policy on Afghanistan.
“Consultations at the highest levels concluded that Pakistan will not give in to any American pressure or demands,” sources said, adding that senior federal authorities have voiced their reservations.
It has been conveyed to the Trump administration that Pakistan has achieved 100% results in its military operations against terrorists of all hue and colour and will continue doing so until the last terrorist is eliminated.
According to sources, Pakistan has told US Ambassador David Hale that neither was Islamabad dependent on Washington for its defence system nor did its economy need American financial assistance.
They said that Pakistan had started approaching its allies, including China, Russia and other countries to muster support in the face of the new US policy. Beijing has assured Islamabad that it will veto any possible resolution in the UN Security Council by the US.
Sources also said that Islamabad has set its own strategy to deal with the new US strategy. Pakistan, they said, has warned the US of possible pull-out from the Afghan reconciliation process if Washington didn’t change its approach…”

“Even as tensions between the United States and Russia fester, there is one surprising place where their military-to-military contacts are quietly weathering the storm: Syria.
It has been four months since U.S. President Donald Trump ordered cruise missile strikes against a Syrian airfield after an alleged chemical weapons attack.
In June, the U.S. military shot down a Syrian fighter aircraft, the first U.S. downing of a manned jet since 1999, and also shot down two Iranian-made drones that threatened U.S.-led coalition forces.
All the while, U.S. and Russian military officials have been regularly communicating, U.S. officials told Reuters. Some of the contacts are helping draw a line on the map that separates U.S.- and Russian-backed forces waging parallel campaigns on Syria’s shrinking battlefields.
There is also a telephone hotline linking the former Cold War foes’ air operations centers. U.S. officials told Reuters that there now are about 10 to 12 calls a day on the hotline, helping keep U.S. and Russian warplanes apart as they support different fighters on the ground.
That is no small task, given the complexities of Syria’s civil war. Moscow backs the Syrian government, which also is aided by Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah as it claws back territory from Syrian rebels and Islamic State fighters.
The U.S. military is backing a collection of Kurdish and Arab forces focusing their firepower against Islamic State, part of a strategy to collapse the group’s self-declared “caliphate” in Syria and Iraq.
Reuters was given rare access to the U.S. Air Force’s hotline station, inside the Qatar-based Combined Air Operations Area, last week, including meeting two Russian linguists, both native speakers, who serve as the U.S. interface for conversations with Russian commanders.
While the conversations are not easy, contacts between the two sides have remained resilient, senior U.S. commanders said.
“The reality is we’ve worked through some very hard problems and, in general, we have found a way to maintain the deconfliction line (that separates U.S. and Russian areas of operation) and found a way to continue our mission,” Lieutenant General Jeffrey Harrigian, the top U.S. Air Force commander in the Middle East, said in an interview.
As both sides scramble to capture what is left of Islamic State’s caliphate, the risk of accidental contacts is growing.
“We have to negotiate, and sometimes the phone calls are tense. Because for us, this is about protecting ourselves, our coalition partners and destroying the enemy,” Harrigian said, without commenting on the volume of calls.
The risks of miscalculation came into full view in June, when the United States shot down a Syrian Su-22 jet that was preparing to fire on U.S.-backed forces on the ground.
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said those were not the only aircraft in the area. As the incident unfolded, two Russian fighter jets looked on from above and a American F-22 stealth aircraft kept watch from an even higher altitude, they told Reuters.
After the incident, Moscow publicly warned it would consider any planes flying west of the Euphrates River to be targets. But the U.S. military kept flying in the area, and kept talking with Russia.
“The Russians have been nothing but professional, cordial and disciplined,” Army Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend, the Iraq-based commander of the U.S.-led coalition, told Reuters.
In Syria, U.S.-backed forces are now consumed with the battle to capture Islamic State’s former capital of Raqqa. More than half the city has been retaken from Islamic State.
Officials said talks were underway to extend a demarcation line that has been separating U.S.- and Russian-backed fighters on the ground as fighting pushes toward Islamic State’s last major Syrian stronghold, the Deir al-Zor region.
The line runs in an irregular arc from a point southwest of Tabqa east to a point on the Euphrates River and then down along the Euphrates River in the direction of Deir al-Zor, they said.
U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, during a visit to Jordan this week, said the line was important as U.S.- and Russian-backed forces come in closer proximity of each other.
“We do not do that (communication) with the (Syrian) regime. It is with the Russians, is who we’re dealing with,” Mattis said.
“We continue those procedures right on down the Euphrates River Valley.”
Bisected by the Euphrates River, Deir al-Zor and its oil resources are critical to the Syrian state.
The province is largely in the hands of Islamic State, but has become a priority for pro-Syrian forces. It also is in the crosshairs of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
SDF spokesman Talal Silo told Reuters last week that there would be an SDF campaign toward Deir al-Zor “in the near future,” though the SDF was still deciding whether it would be delayed until Raqqa was fully taken from Islamic State.”

In his hate speech, Abu Ramadan called on Allah “to destroy the enemies of our religion,” Switzerland’s SRF broadcaster reported, citing an audio recording in its possession.
The “enemies” according to the preacher included “Jews, Christians, Hindus, Russians and the Shia [branch of Islam].”
Yet, Ramadan received some 600,000 Swiss francs ($620,000) in social benefits from the Swiss government over the last 13 years, according to research conducted by the Rundschau program of SRF and the Tages Anzeiger newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the man came to seek refuge in Switzerland in 1998 after he fled his homeland, explaining that he’d been pursued by authorities for spreading religious propaganda for the Muslim Brotherhood.
With political asylum granted and a residence permit, the 64-year-old Ramadan hardly ever worked, instead living on social payments from 2004 until 2017.
Ramadan, who can barely speak French or German according to news outlets, is said have preached in small towns of Biel and Neuchâtel, as well appeared on the Libyan Islamic channel, Tanaush TV.
In addition, research claims to have found his pictures at luxury hotels, made when he accompanied pilgrims to Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
Through a statement by his lawyer, the preacher claimed to Tages Anzeiger that he respects other religions. “Love, tolerance and generosity are my guideline in my relations with Muslims and non-Muslims,” the statement reads.
However, according to the tape obtained by the Swiss outlets, he also preached that “a person who befriends a disbeliever is cursed until the Day of Judgment.” In fact, the man apparently never studied theology and also denied being an imam, the newspaper says…”

Wall Street Banks Warn Downturn Is Coming
HSBC Holdings Plc, Citigroup Inc. and Morgan Stanley see mounting evidence that global markets are in the last stage of their rallies before a downturn in the business cycle.
Analysts at the Wall Street behemoths cite signals including the breakdown of long-standing relationships between stocks, bonds and commodities as well as investors ignoring valuation fundamentals and data. It all means stock and credit markets are at risk of a painful drop.

KOROR, Palau: The United States has announced plans to install radar systems in Palau, a move that will increase its monitoring ability in the western Pacific region recently rocked by threats from North Korea.

Texas Federal Court Judge Rules to Overturn New Voter Photo ID Law
A federal court judge in Texas strikes down the state’s voter photo ID law.
The decision came down Wednesday, ruling the legislation could make it harder for poor and minority citizens to vote.
U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos claimed the measure was pushed with the intent to wrongfully discriminate against both Hispanic and African American voters.
This comes after the DOJ asked the judge to halt overturning the law since it expanded upon an earlier version of the bill.
However, the judge said neither versions corrected the original problems of the bill.
The Trump administration proposed the legislation in an effort to crack down on voter integrity within the state of Texas.

In photos, North Korea signals a more powerful ICBM in the works
SEOUL (Reuters) – With photographs obliquely showing a new rocket design, North Korea has sent a message that it is working on an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) more powerful than any it has previously tested, weapons experts said on Thursday.
If developed, such a missile could possibly reach any place on the U.S. mainland, including Washington and New York, they said.
North Korea’s state media published photographs late on Wednesday of leader Kim Jong Un standing next to a diagram of a three-stage rocket it called the Hwasong-13.
Missile experts, who carefully examine such pictures for clues about North Korea’s weapons programs, said there is no indication that the rocket has been fully developed. In any case, it had not been flight tested and it was impossible to calculate its potential range, they said.

According to an internal memo authored by company’s head of corporate responsibility, Peter Scher, the financial institution will also “launch a special campaign to match two-for-one our employees’ donations to a wide range of human and civil rights organizations, up to an additional $1 million” in September.
So which “charity” is the recipient of all this largesse? None other than the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the group that professes to fight hate, chiefly by denouncing conservative organizations as “hate groups.” Among the outfits the SPLC has so designated are the Family Research Council (FRC) and the American Family Association.

Polish ministers confirmed they will bring legal action against eurocrats unless they immediately drop infringement proceedings, enacted last month over the country’s refusal to take in refugees.
The move marks a further ramping up of rhetoric between the two parties over the issue of migration, with relations deteriorating between Warsaw and Brussels at an alarming rate.
EU officials have notified Poland of their intention to take action over the government’s refusal to accept migrant quotas, with punishments potentially including suspending the country’s voting rights.
But with the latest opinion polling showing that more than half of Poles would be prepared to quit the bloc altogether if the EU imposes its migration policies, neither side looks likely to back down.
The stand-off with Warsaw is fast approaching crisis point for Brussels, with the pair also locked in a bitter tussle over changes to the Polish judiciary that the EU says are illegal.
In a furious statement today the Polish foreign ministry accused eurocrats of mixing up the issue of migrant quotas with its “political” fight against rule of law changes, saying this was “unfortunate”.
It also accused the EU Commission first vice-president, Dutch official Frans Timmermans, of getting involved in a political crusade against the right-wing government and acting like “the opposition”.
The statement said: “Poland has sent a motion to the European Commission requesting it to discontinue its ongoing infringement procedure. Should it be continued, Poland is prepared to argue its case before the Court of Justice of the European Union.”
It then added: “Timmermans has demonstrated political intervention in Poland’s internal affairs, taking a position similar to that of the opposition.”
Hungary and Slovakia – two other countries who have refused to implement the quotas – are already fighting the policy at the ECJ but look set to lose their case following an opinion published by the Advocate General.
Mr Timmermans announced the instigation of infringement proceedings against Poland last month, and said at the time that he was not ruling out triggering Article 7 as a punishment.
The measure, never before deployed, is the most severe sanction the bloc can impose save for expulsion and would strip Poland of its voting rights on the EU Council.
European nations introduced a mandatory migrant quota system in 2015 to help alleviate the pressure on Greece and Italy but Eastern European nations, who were outvoted on its implementation, have always resisted it.
Polish ministers have inflamed tensions over the issue by directly linking the arrival of refugees with the increased terror threat in Europe to justify their refusal to take part.
And according to recent polling voters are well on its side, with 57 per cent saying they would be prepared to forgo the billions of pounds a year the country receives in structural funding from Brussels rather than comply.
The IBRiS survey revealed a further 51 per cent are prepared to take a step further and vote to quit the bloc altogether if the EU forces an allocation of refugees on Poland.
Some Western European nations, most notably France and Italy, have floated the idea of cutting of funding to nations who have refused to take in migrants saying they are showing a lack of “solidarity”.”

“SLAMIC State (ISIS) has issued its latest chilling propaganda video which features a boy warning Donald Trump that “the battle will end in your lands”.
The footage is said to feature a 10-year-old boy who is the son of a US soldier, although this has not been verified.
In the clip the boy, who appears to speak with an American accent, calls the US President a “puppet of the Jews” and says that “the battle will end in your lands”.
The 10-year-old boy claims he has become good friends with another child, 7-year-old Abdullah from the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar, in the region of Iraq that ISIS overran in August 2014, slaughtering thousands of members of the Yazidi sect that the extremists considers to be a devil-worshipping cult.
The boy, believed to be called Yusuf, who emigrated to Syria two years ago with his mother, describes the constant airstrikes against the terrorist organisation ISIS and predicts that the battle will move to American soil.
The video proceeds to show Abdullah speaking to the screen, saying that ISIS took him with them when they “liberated Sinjar.” Abdullah and Yousef are then shown washing each other with water.
The seven-minute film, entitled This Fertile Nation, is said to have been filmed in the Syrian city of Raqqa.
SITE Intelligence Group director Rita Katz posted on her Twitter account: “For #ISIS, children are powerful rhetorical devices until old enough to serve ultimate purpose: fight as soldiers.”
ISIS also released a video praising those involved in the Barcelona attack as well as urging for more to take place.
It is believed it is the first time ISIS have issued a video involving Spanish-speaking fighters.
In the three-minute video called The Conquest of Barcelona, the ISIS members say that the “war against Spain will carry on until the end of the world” unless it ends its coalition with the US.
The film shows gruesome footage from the attacks last week and another ISIS terrorist says to camera: “I ask Allah to accept our brothers from Barcelona.

Libya, a country all but destroyed by years of political turmoil is unable to cope.
“We have limited financial, logistical and security resources,” said the prime minister.
He wants Europe to help his country build an electronic fence along its southern border, allow its coast guard to be armed and help to maintain migrant shelters in Libya.
His words emphasise just how weak has been the European response to the migrant crisis.
Libya is the gateway to Europe and an entry point for terrorists.
The very survival of Europe and European culture depends on the powers that be paying attention to what the Libyan prime minister says.
This Labour MP’s shame
IT WAS, it seemed, a parody of a Left-wing pundit.
The tweet read that: “Those abused girls in Rotherham and elsewhere just need to shut their mouths. For the good of diversity.”
But the irony was lost of Labour MP Naz Shah who shared the sentiment with her followers. She later backtracked, making some feeble excuse.
The trouble is that for too long that spoof tweet represented the opinion of many in authority.
The abuse of girls in Rotherham and other parts of the country by mostly Pakistani Muslims was not treated with the seriousness it deserved because of a belief that “diversity” trumps common decency.
Naz Shah herself attacked fellow Labour MP Sarah Champion for writing an article stating: “Britain had a problem with Pakistani men targeting vulnerable white girls.”
Naz Shah prides herself on her work on child abuse and violence against women. She should be ashamed.
OF late, news programmes have had few laughs but when Alastair Stewart’s ITV Lunchtime News bulletin was interrupted by a riotous toddler, nobody could keep a straight face.

ITALY – JESOLO – Algerian imigrant jumps off Jesolo roof
VENICE, AUGUST 23 – An Algerian immigrant threw himself off the roof of his two-storey home in Jesolo near Venice and is in a very serious condition after the 10-metre fall, police said Wednesday after vainly trying to talk him down. Police were called to the premises by the immigrant’s partner who reported that he had beaten her in an umpteenth domestic row.
The 41-year-old man, who reportedly has a record for drugs offences, kept on drinking beer while the Carabinieri talked to him and then suddenly took a run-up and threw himself off the roof.
He was taken to a Mestre hospital where he is in “very serious” condition with fractures to his pelvis, skull and other parts of his body, medical sources said.

“Switzerland’s attorney general has announced the indictment of a Swiss woman suspected of trying to reach Syria to join the Islamic State group with her four-year-old child in tow.
The 30-year-old from the Zurich area, whose name wasn’t released, was indicted for alleged violations of laws banning al-Qaida, IS and associated extremist groups. Attorney General Michael Lauber’s office said Thursday it was only the second time that an alleged jihadi traveler had been indicted in Switzerland.
The indictment alleges that she travelled illegally with her child from Egypt to Greece in December 2015 in hopes of crossing from neighboring Turkey into Syria. Greek authorities prevented her from continuing the journey and handed her over to Swiss authorities in January last year.

Switzerland’s intelligence agency estimates that 89 people have left Switzerland since 2001 to participate in jihad, including 75 who went to Syria and Iraq. The agency says 24 are believed to have died, 14 have returned to Switzerland and with the rest are still believed to be in conflict zones.
Lauber’s office said some 60 criminal cases linked to “terrorism of a jihadist motive” are pending in Switzerland, with many involving suspected propaganda in support of banned groups like IS and al-Qaida.”

A District of Columbia judge sided Thursday with the Justice Department in ordering web-hosting service DreamHost to turn over certain metadata from an anti-Trump website.
The site, disruptj20.org, helped organize political protests against the Trump administration including one on Inauguration Day which resulted in property damage and scores of arrests. The government’s subsequent push for information from the hosting service has touched off a constitutional battle between the federal government and the company.
Chief Judge Robert Morin, of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, acknowledged Thursday in court that he was struggling to balance First Amendment rights with the valid concerns of law enforcement enforcing a search warrant based on probable cause. While the DOJ has backed off its initial, controversial request for IP addresses, the government still wants other personal information included in the metadata from DreamHost – a request Morin granted.

Detroit — Federal prosecutors Monday linked Sebastian Gregerson to a Virginia man who threatened to commit a domestic terror attack in support of the Islamic State.
The link was revealed in a 47-page federal court filing that more fully describes ties between Gregerson and like-minded associates, including a radical imam in Maryland who bankrolled Gregerson’s weapons purchases. The British Daily Mail came out this week with a headline, “Meet baby Angela Merkel Muhammad: Syrian refugees living in Germany name their newborn after Chancellor.” Unfortunately for Germany and Europe, many babies named Muhammad will be born in the coming years, and within a generation or two, both will have more people bowing to Mecca than those attending churches or calling themselves Christians.
History alone will have a fair judgment on Angela Merkel, Germany’s chancellor. Yet, given the admission of over a million Middle Eastern and African migrants, many if not most are seeking economic opportunities their home countries failed to provide. Islamist invaders, seeking to turn the heart of Europe safe for Islam, are among those migrants. In the meantime, before history can render judgement, Islamist terror is gripping Germany.
