U.S. Charges Two Iranians with Stealing Weapon Software
The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday accused Iranian nationals Mohammed Reza Rezakhah, 39, and Mohammed Saeed Ajily, 35, of hacking into software companies, stealing materials, then selling it to the Iranian government, military and educational institutions.

Iranian Military Agent Caught Trying to Enter U.S.
Seyed Mohsen Dehnavi, a senior member of Iran’s Basij military force, was caught at Boston’s Logan Airport trying to enter the U.S., posing as a cancer researcher. Some media outlets portrayed U.S. officials as having prevented an Iranian doctor from performing legitimate work. However, Iranian sources said Dehnavi has close ties to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Venezuela opposition calls nationwide strike against Maduro
Caracas (AFP) – Venezuela’s opposition called a nationwide strike for Thursday to press President Nicolas Maduro to back off a rewriting of the constitution, ratcheting up tensions after an unofficial vote rejecting Maduro’s plan and amid months of deadly protests.
The strike call, issued on Monday, was part of what the opposition called a “final offensive” aimed at forcing Maduro out through early elections before his term ends in 2019.
On Sunday, in an event organized by the opposition, more than a third of Venezuela’s 19 million voters rejected Maduro’s bid to have a citizens’ body called a “Constituent Assembly” elected on July 30 to redraft the constitution.
Several countries lauded the balloting. White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Monday it sent an “unmistakable statement” to Maduro and his government.
The EU’s top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, said that Maduro should suspend his plan, or he “risks further polarizing the country and increasing confrontation.”

More Obama officials scrutinized in ‘unmasking’ probe
The number of people thought to be involved in the alleged “unmasking” of American citizens under the Obama administration could be expanding, according to a source close to the House Intelligence Committee’s review.
The source with knowledge of the review told Fox News the records suggest the unmasking “goes beyond” key officials like former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, former CIA Director John Brennan and former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power.
The source said more than a half-dozen former senior Obama administration officials are now of interest to House committee investigators.
Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., issued subpoenas in May to the CIA, FBI and NSA for records about the identification of American citizens in intelligence reports, also known as “unmasking.”

Displays of this new image-filtering capability kicked into high gear last week as Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo lay dying from liver cancer and politically minded Chinese tried to pay tribute to him, according to activists and a new research report.
Wu Yangwei, a friend of the long-jailed Nobel Peace Prize laureate, said he used popular messaging app WeChat to send friends a photo of a haggard Mr. Liu embracing his wife. Mr. Wu believed the transmissions were successful, but he said his friends never saw them. “Sometimes you can get around censors by rotating the photo,” said Mr. Wu, a writer better known by his pen name, Ye Du. “But that doesn’t always work.”
Chinese internet censorship first concentrated on the development of word-screening software to root out politically objectionable content. The latest development in the ongoing investigation, which the Tribune first disclosed in May, emerged as Inspector General Joseph Ferguson detailed how ousted district water superintendent Paul Hansen emailed with individuals over personal purchases or sales of at least four firearms and five cars.
Those emails about firearms started the investigation over his use of a government account for personal business, which is against city rules. And it quickly spread to other emails sent by Hansen, who is white and the son of a former alderman, to other water department bosses, according to City Hall sources.

A recent nationwide poll found that 44 percent of liberal Democrat believe that churches in the United States have a negative impact of society.
This view, however, is not only shared by a significant proportion of “liberal” Democrats, but by a large chunk of all Democrats, as Pew Research Center also revealed that more than one in three Democrats in America (36 percent) see churches’ impact on society as negative. This is in stark contrast to the meager 14 percent Republicans who see churches’ influence as negative.
Comparing negative and positive takes on churches’ influence within different sectors of party lines, here’s how the stats were broken down by Pew’s U.S. Politics and Policy Department:
“Liberal Democrats are about as likely to say the impact of churches and religious organizations is negative (44 percent) as they are to say it is positive (40 percent),” Pew divulged. “By two-to-one (58 percent to 29 percent), more conservative and moderate Democrats say churches have a positive than negative effect on the country. Obama directs Organizing for Action, a huge, well-funded 501(c)(4) nonprofit with more than 30,000 volunteers nationwide that doesn’t have to disclose its donors and that is at the head of Obama’s network of left-wing nonprofit groups. OfA, which grew out of Obama’s electoral campaigns, has upwards of 250 offices across America. His other nonprofit, the Barack Obama Foundation, is building Obama’s $675 million presidential library in Chicago. The library is slated to be a hub of left-wing activism.
Obama now owns and lives in a $8.1 million, 8,200-square-foot, walled mansion in Washington’s Embassy Row that he is using to command his community organizing cadres in the war against President Trump. Obama’s alter ego, Valerie Jarrett, has moved into the house to help out. Jarrett also resided in the White House when Obama was president.
No ex-president has ever stuck around the nation’s capital to vex and undermine his successor. Of course, Obama is unlike any president the United States has ever had. Even failed, self-righteous presidents like Jimmy Carter, who has occasionally taken shots at his successors, didn’t stay behind in the nation’s capital to obstruct the policy-making of the new administration.

More Migrant Riots Hit France
Flood of migration continues all over Western Europe despite rising dangers.
The European migration experiment is failing miserably. Self-declared “refugees” and migrants from Africa and the Middle East are importing their violence, chaos and regressive norms of behavior into formerly harmonious countries all over Western Europe. As Seth J. Frantzman wrote in the Jerusalem Post last December, “They hate the very society they have often chosen to migrate to. Their new society tolerated their intolerance and taught them that this new country provided such unfettered freedom that it should be destroyed.”
For example, while many French people were busy celebrating Bastille Day – a year after the tragic Islamist massacre in Nice – riots and violence reportedly broke out on the nights of July 13 and 14 in suburbs of Paris heavily populated by migrants. A policeman was badly wounded and 897 cars were burned. Hundreds of individuals were placed in custody.
There was also a riot in the streets of Paris a few days ago by a mob of angry Congolese. They were infuriated by a scheduled concert at Paris’s Olympia music hall by a Congolese artist thought to be too close to the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo they detest. The concert was cancelled as a result of the clashes and threats of more violence. The Congolese living in Paris brought their tribal hatreds to the land that gave them the opportunity to leave such hatreds behind. They abused the freedoms they were afforded, turning on those freedoms by violently preventing an artistic performance from taking place.

Master Sgt. Haiel Sitawe, the father of a newborn baby, and Kamil Shnaan, who was newly engaged, were murdered in an Islamic terrorist attack in Jerusalem. The two Israeli police officers were members of the Druze community in Israel. The terrorists who shot them were killed by other police officers.
While Israel will compensate the families of the dead police officers, the Palestinian Authority will compensate the families of the terrorists. And American taxpayers will compensate both.
This is typical of a foreign policy in which we fund both the terrorists and the terrorized.
Sooner or later, we are going to have to choose a side.

For the second time during the Trump administration, the State Department has reportedly decided to certify that Iran is complying with its 2015 nuclear deal with the Security Council’s five permanent members and Germany, known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
If true, it will be the administration’s second unforced error regarding the JCPOA. Over the past two years, considerable information detailing Tehran’s violations of the deal have become public, including: exceeding limits on uranium enrichment and production of heavy water; illicit efforts at international procurement of dual-use nuclear and missile technology; and obstructing international inspection efforts (which were insufficient to begin with).
Since international verification is fatally inadequate, and our own intelligence far from perfect, these violations undoubtedly only scratch the surface of the ayatollahs’ inexhaustible mendaciousness.
Certification is an unforced error because the applicable statute (the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, or INARA) requires neither certifying Iranian compliance nor certifying Iranian noncompliance. Paula DeSutter and I previously explained that INARA requires merely that the Secretary of State (to whom President Obama delegated the task) “determine…whether [he] is able to certify” compliance (emphasis added). The secretary can satisfy the statute simply by “determining” that he is not prepared for now to certify compliance and that U.S. policy is under review.

The Russian lawyer who landed a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. during last year’s presidential campaign with the promise of dirt on Hillary Clinton had one big thing in common with the Democratic candidate: Both had opposed Russia sanctions targeting human-rights abusers.
Further, former Secretary of State Clinton’s initial opposition coincided with a $500,000 speech her husband gave in Moscow – a link her 2016 campaign fought to downplay in the press, according to WikiLeaks-released documents.

A higher regional court in Stuttgart sentenced the man, whose name was not released, on Tuesday for membership in the Nusra Front in Syria in 2013 and 2014 and for using machine guns in battles at different checkpoints of the extremist group.
The man’s defense had claimed that as part of the Nusra Front he was fighting the IS extremist group, “which is being fought against by the entire free world,” but the court said fighting in a terrorist group cannot be justified because it is battling another terrorist group.
The court’s statement said the man arrived in Germany in 2015, but didn’t provide any further details.”

The 10 — Amnesty’s Turkey director Idil Eser, seven human rights defenders and their German and Swedish trainers —were detained in a July 5 police raid on a hotel on the island of Buyukada, off Istanbul, where they were attending a digital security workshop.
The detentions added to the growing concerns over rights and freedoms in the country where the post-coup crackdown has resulted in more than 50,000 arrests and the dismissal of more than 110,000 from government jobs. “This is not a legitimate investigation, this is a politically motivated witch-hunt that charts a frightening future for rights in Turkey,” said Salil Shetty, Amnesty International’s secretary general.
He said: “Today we have learnt that standing up for human rights has become a crime in Turkey. This is a moment of truth, for Turkey and for the international community.”
Shetty also called on countries to put pressure on Turkey to release the activists, saying: “leaders around the world must stop biting their tongues and acting as if they continue business as usual.”
Amnesty said the 10 are suspected of “committing crime in the name of a terrorist organization without being a member.”
Germany’s government is calling for the release of the German trainer, who it identified as Peter Steudtner.
“We are strongly convinced that this arrest is absolutely unjustified,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, according to the dpa news agency.
Merkel added that the German government would “do everything, on all levels” to secure his release.

“There are currently more than 13,000 girls in Germany whose families plan to have them circumcised – an increase of 4,000 over last year – women’s rights group Terre des Femmes claims.
“Due to the arrival of migrants from countries such as Eritrea, Somalia and Iraq, we have recorded a huge increase in the number of affected women and threatened girls,” Terre des Femmes spokeswoman Charlotte Weil told DPA on Tuesday.
Weil, who has authored a report on unrecorded female genital mutilation (FGM) in Germany, estimated that there are 58,000 women in the country who have been victims of female circumcision.
The mutilation of the female sexual organs is practised in many African countries, as well as a few in Asia. It is illegal in Germany.
“We don’t know of any cases where a girl was mutilated in Germany. It either takes place on a holiday back in their homeland, or during a visit to a practitioner in a city such as Paris or Amsterdam,” said Weil.
The number of social workers, teachers and doctors who have sought help from Terre des Femmes concerning girls threatened with FGM over the past year has also risen sharply. Mothers also occasionally seek help from the organization.
Migrants from Senegal and Gambia often prove receptive to information on the dangers of FGM, those from Guinea and Somalia less so, Weil said.
She added that teachers should remain attentive, particularly if young girls say that they are travelling home on holiday, and that there will be a “big festival.””
Boston to hang 50 posters addressing public harassment, Islamophobia around city
In the next two weeks, the city of Boston will hang 50 posters to address public harassment and Islamophobia.
The posters present “A bystander’s guide to helping a person who is being targeted,” with the title “ISLAMOPHOBIC HARASSMENT” in bold, capital letters on top. Illustrations depict a woman sitting on a bus or train wearing a hijab, and an angry man yelling at her. A woman intervenes, conversing with the victim until the attacker walks away. The artist employs shades of purple and blues for the drawings, making the race of the illustrated characters unclear, though the intervening bystander appears to be white.
Parisian artist Maeril designed the cartoons, which depict what the city calls “non-complementary behavior.” The posters ask bystanders to engage in random conversation with the victim (in the posters, the bystander asks the victim, “Do You Like Movies?…I just saw a really good one!”). The poster says such rapport builds “the safe space” which is expected to “push” the attacker to leave the area.
The city’s push to hang the posters follow reports of harassment against people of Muslim faith across the country, including a verbal attack against a Muslim woman on the MBTA’s Orange Line last month.
“Education is key to fighting intolerance, and these posters share a simple strategy for engaging with those around you,” Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement.
Suzan El-Rayess, the Civic Engagement Director at Boston Cultural Center’s Islamic Society, says the bystander approach can be applied to victims targeted in any situation, “whether Muslim, Latino or otherwise.”
