2. Professors Want Academia To Stop Citing Straight White Men

   If you’re writing an academic paper on any given subject, you need to do your research and get your facts straight. No, I don’t mean about the topic you’re writing about. You see, you’re not a good academic if you don’t discover who the authors referenced in your footnotes like to sleep with.

   Think I’m making this up? I wish:

   Geographers Carrie Mott and Daniel Cockayne argued in a recent paper that [citing the work of straight, white men] perpetuates what they call “white heteromasculinism,” which they defined as a “system of oppression” that benefits only those who are “white, male, able-bodied, economically privileged, heterosexual, and cisgendered.” (Cisgendered describes people whose gender identity matches their birth sex.)

   Mott, a professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey, and Cockayne, who teaches at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, argued that scholars or researchers disproportionately cite the work of white men, thereby unfairly adding credence to the body of knowledge they offer while ignoring the voices of other groups, like women and black male academics. Although citation seems like a mundane practice, the feminist professors argue that citing someone’s work has implications on his or her ability to be hired, get promoted and obtain tenured status, among others.

9. Susan Rice’s House testimony delayed: report

   Classified testimony expected this week from former national security advisor Susan Rice has reportedly been delayed, CNN reported Monday.

   The delay comes as the House Intelligence Committee seeks to get former United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power to appear as well.

   CNN said Power has agreed to speak to the committee, an appearance that could happen before the August recess.

   Power’s counsel, David Pressman, said she supports a bipartisan probe into Russia’s meddling in the United States election and that she is “looking forward” to offering any help in addressing the threat from Russia.

   “Ambassador Power strongly supports any bipartisan effort to investigate and address Russia’s interference in our electoral process and she wanted to engage both the House and Senate Committees charged with investigating it,” Pressman said in a statement.

   “Long before receiving an invitation to engage the Congressional committees, Ambassador Power stressed the importance of determining the full extent of this threat to our national security and learning lessons from what has happened. … Ambassador Power is very much looking forward to providing any assistance and encouragement she can to bipartisan efforts aimed at addressing this serious threat to our nation’s security.”

   Republican lawmakers want to determine if either Obama official “unmasked” the identities of President Trump’s associates that were redacted in intelligence reports.

   Rice, according to the report, had been slated to testify on Tuesday.

   Several congressional committees are investigating Russia’s election interference, President Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey and any interference from the Justice Department in FBI investigations.

   And potential surveillance of the Trump campaign has been in the spotlight since Trump claimed on Twitter, without evidence, that he “found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory.”

    Five ‘Islamic State’ German women found in tunnel in Mosul

    Five German women are in custody following a military operation in the Iraqi city of Mosul. It is alleged that they travelled to the embattled city to support the so-called “Islamic State” terror group (IS).
    The five German women in remand are reportedly part of a group of 20 female fighters apprehended in Mosul’s beleaguered ancient city last week, including other nationals from Russia, Turkey, Canada, Libya, and Chechnya.

    An Iraqi military official told the newspaper that the group of women had been hiding in a system of tunnels built by IS, and that weapons and explosive belts were found at the site of their arrest – presumably to be used for assaults on Iraqi soldiers. Initial reports say that the arrested individuals were working for the police arm of IS.

    Underage fighter from eastern Germany

    Germany’s daily “Die Welt” newspaper reported that a 16-year-old convert to Islam from Germany’s federal state of Saxony was among those seized by local security forces. The girl had been missing for about a year after allegedly getting in touch with IS supporters online.
    Authorities in Saxony’s capital Dresden said that the underage girl had been under investigation for being involved in preparations for a violent act against the state, but that the probe had been suspended due to her absence.

    Chief prosecutor Lorenz Haase told “Die Welt” that the investigation would be resumed when the girl was back in Germany.

    More than 900 Islamists are believed to have travelled to Syria and Iraq from Germany to support IS, including several underage girls.

13. UK LONDON – M U S L I M charged after east London acid attack left two victims with serious burns

    A Muslim has been charged over an acid attack on a man and a woman in Mile End, east London.

    The victims were left with serious burns after the horrific attack on Burdett Road on July 4.
    Mustafa Ahmed, 19, was arrested on Sunday and has now been charged with one count of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and one count of attempted wounding with intent to do GBH.

    He will appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

    Neither of the victims, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s, have as yet been named.

    They have, however, both been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.
    A Met Police spokesperson told Metro.co.uk after the attack: ‘Both victims have suffered burn injuries; their conditions are non-life threatening.’
