“The Czech parliament on Wednesday passed a constitutional amendment that challenges EU gun control rules by allowing legal firearms holders to use them when national security is threatened, including during terrorist attacks.
The amendment, which passed by a large majority, is expected easily to gain approval from the senate and President Milos Zeman, still needed for it to take effect.
The Czech government also said earlier this month it would ask the European Court of Justice to strike down new EU gun control rules that have its hunters and gun collectors up in arms.
Both moves come as parties jockey for support ahead of the October general election, when the centrist ANO junior coalition partner is tipped to oust the Social Democrats as government leader.
Wednesday’s Czech amendment was submitted by government and opposition parties and approved by 139 out of the 168 deputies present in the lower house of parliament. Nine voted against.
“We don’t want to disarm our citizens at a time when the security situation in Europe is getting worse,” Interior Minister Milan Chovanec, a senior Social Democrat, told parliament Wednesday.
“Show me a single terrorist attack in Europe perpetrated using a legally-owned weapon,” he said.
Passed in mid-March by the European Parliament, the new EU gun control directive bans civilians from possessing certain semi-automatic weapons as part of counter-terrorism measures.
EU members are supposed to incorporate the new rules, which passed in June, within 15 months.
The Czech interior ministry said the directive would affect nearly all 300,000 legal firearm licence holders in the country of 10.6 million people.
The Czech Republic, where there is no recent history of terrorism, has been pushing for softer rules on gun control, unlike other countries like Luxembourg and France which asked for strict legislation.
Besides banning short semi-automatic firearms with loading devices over 20 rounds and long semi-automatic firearms with loading devices over 10 rounds, the EU directive prohibits long firearms that can be folded or concealed in other ways.
The EU rules make it easier to trace firearms. They also require registration of converted firearms that only fire blanks, which are used in theatres or on television, under the same category as the original weapons.”

Another thing is that the US government considers the American citizen as part of the national defense system, even providing rifles for ordinary citizens to practice with. Consider how the relationship of government and citizen differs from that in Europe, where many countries prohibit the citizens from having weapons of military caliber.

“UAE’s Crown Prince Mohammad bin Zayed al-Nahyan called on the US military to bomb the Doha-based Al-Jazeera channel headquarters during the US invasion of Afghanistan and ahead of the Iraq war, a leaked diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks revealed.
The comments were given as part of Mohammad bin Zayed’s efforts to foster onto the US administration the importance of “reigning in” the Al-Jazeera network in order to dampen Arab public opinion in the lead-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
The cable alleges that former Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani “complained about a report he had received that [Mohammad Bin Zayed] had asked [US] General Franks to bomb Al-Jazeera,” during a conversation with Shaykh Zayed bin Sultan, Abu Dhabi’s then-ruler and father of the current crown prince.
The meeting was “laughingly recalled” by the crown prince himself, according to the cable.
The cable further said that Mohammad bin Zayed’s father, Shaykh Zayed said “can you blame him?” in his reply to the Qatari Emir.
The same cable also alleged that Mohammed bin Zayed urged the US to prohibit journalists from accompanying them during the invasion in order to prevent them from reporting civilian causalities.
“He recommended against sending in journalists with war fighters – at least in the beginning – as the prospect of televising scenes of civilian casualties was just too risky,” the cable said.
The US military has previously struck Al-Jazeera offices during both the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq – though both attacks were claimed to have been unintentional.
A missile strike in 2001 completely destroyed Al-Jazeera’s Kabul office in Afghanistan, while a second strike in 2003 against Al-Jazeera offices in Baghdad led to the death of one journalist and the wounding of others.
The leaked cable emerged amid a continuing blockade of Qatar by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, within which Mohammad bin Zayed is said to have played a prominent role.
The complete closure of the Al-Jazeera network is one of the 13-point list of demands given by the UAE and Saudi Arabia to Qatari authorities.”

With 2,500 inmates, the penitentiary institution of Fresnes, about 20 miles south of Paris, is one of the largest prisons in Europe. Like most French prisons, Fresnes is overcrowded. Built in the late 19th century, its tiny cells, each meant for one prisoner, most often house three.
Inmates scream curses and catcalls from their barred windows as I visit a small, empty sports yard ensconced between cell blocks. Plastic bags and punctured soccer balls are caught in the surrounding concertina wire.
The prisoners here yelled out in just this way back in November 2015, refusing to honor a minute of silence for the victims of the terrorist attacks on Paris cafes and the Bataclan concert hall.
Fresnes prison director Philippe Obligis says he began to see a radicalization problem here well before those attacks took place.
“There were some radical Muslims who were putting huge pressure on regular Muslims to adopt a certain kind of behavior,” he says. “Like taking a shower with their clothes on and not listening to music or watching TV.”
Many of the homegrown terrorists who’ve launched attacks in recent years in places like Paris and Brussels were radicalized in prison — often while serving jail terms that had nothing to do with terrorism. In France, where a disproportionate number of prison inmates are of Muslim background, authorities are struggling to deal with the phenomenon.
In 2014, Fresnes became the first French prison to separate radicalized inmates from the general prison population — they were put in an entirely separate wing, one person to each cell, and had different guards from the other prisoners.
After 2015, which began with the January attacks at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a Kosher supermarket, and ended with the Bataclan attack in November, some other French prisons began separating inmates too. Several of the terrorists who killed nearly 150 people that year were common criminals who had become radicalized in prison.
In 2016, the French government put money into a rehabilitation program for radicals deemed not too far gone. The prisoners in these new anti-radicalization units received visits from psychologists and historians; they had the chance to attend some workshops or receive some training.
The radical units were controversial, especially after two guards at one prison were attacked in September of last year. In November, the French interior minister announced an end to the program.
Instead, the French government boosted security around the most dangerous prisoners — both radicals and not. And intelligence collecting in prisons was beefed up. A bureau of central intelligence for prisons was created earlier this year.
Around 350 French prisoners are serving jail terms for terrorist-related offenses. And a further 1,340 inmates convicted of regular crimes are identified as radicalized.
“They’ll contaminate the others”
Businessman Pierre Botton went to jail for white collar crime in the 1990s and founded Together Against Recidivism, an organization devoted to improving the lives of prisoners. He says it’s nearly impossible to think about reforming in jail because prisoners are mainly just struggling to survive.
He believes radicals should be separated in different prisons entirely, because otherwise, they’ll inevitably interact with the rest of the prison population. He notes what happened when the only surviving terrorist from the Paris Bataclan attacks landed in a French jail last year.
“When Salah Abdeslam arrived, they clapped,” says Botton. “Do you understand what I’m saying? When he arrived in the jail, they clapped. They applauded.”
Botton says criminals like Abdeslam are icons in jails in the Paris region, where up to 70 percent of inmates identify as Muslim. Keeping records on the religion and ethnicity of French citizens is illegal, so there are no official statistics. But Botton says about 70 percent of prisoners in the Paris region observe the Muslim festival of Ramadan.
“So when you put guys like this who represent a certain ideology in the heart of a prison, surrounded by 4,000 inmates, there’s a huge risk they’ll contaminate the others,” he says.
Yannis Warrach, a Muslim cleric who works in his spare time at a top-security prison in Normandy, says prison is so brutal, inmates can only survive if they’re part of a gang. He has seen how the radicals recruit newcomers.
“The ones who preach and proselytize will at first be nice to a detainee. They see his desperation,” he says. “They’ll befriend him, give him what he needs. Then they’ll say it’s destiny. They’ll say that God has a mission for him. And little by little, they brainwash him, telling him French society has rejected him, he can’t get a job because of his Arab last name, and he was always put in the worst classes at school.

“CHATHAM Dockside shopping centre has been closed off after a man stabbed a woman in the throat, it is understood.
Police swarmed Dockside centre, in Chatham, after receiving reports of the horrific incident on Thursday morning.
Eyewitnesses claim to have seen a man ‘covered in blood’ who was handcuffed and bundled into a police car.
An eyewitness, Michelle Hextall, said: “The attacker is leaning on the bonnet of police car in front.
“His hands were covered in blood up to his elbows. Blood on t-shirt.”
Another witness, Ash Tucker, posted on Facebook: “Just pulling into Dockside Chatham, 10 police cars race past with flashing lights, as I’ve locked the door I hear shouting and commotion.
“The next bay opposite to me there’s a man covered in blood being restrained by officers.
“He’s cut a lady’s throat as she sits in her car and he doesn’t even look phased.”
It is thought the attacker locked the victim in car, close to the Odeon cinema.

“Germany will deny permission for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to address Turks at a rally when he visits for the upcoming Group of 20 meeting in Hamburg, Germany’s foreign minister said Thursday.
Turkey officially requested permission Wednesday for Erdogan to make the appearance while in Germany for the July 7-8 summit, Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said during a trip to Russia. Gabriel said he had told his Turkish counterpart weeks ago that “we don’t think this is a good idea.”
“We are telling Turkey that we are convinced such an appearance in Germany is not possible,” Gabriel said, according to news agency dpa.
Earlier Thursday, Gabriel said that “Mr. Erdogan is an important guest at the G-20 and will be received with all honors by us there. But we believe everything that goes beyond that is inappropriate at this point in time.”
He pointed to stretched police resources around the G-20 summit as well as Germany’s current tensions with Turkey.
Erdogan last addressed supporters in Germany in May 2015. Germany has a large ethnic Turkish minority.
Earlier this year, Erdogan accused Germany, and Chancellor Angela Merkel, of “committing Nazi practices” after some local authorities blocked appearances by Turkish ministers hoping to campaign in Germany ahead of Turkey’s referendum on expanding presidential powers.

“Swedish National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson has begged the government for help as the number of no-go zones has risen from 55 to 61 in only one year.
“Help us, help us,” Eliasson said at a press conference on the subject of the rising levels of crime and criminal networks in Sweden. Eliasson said there were at least 5,000 criminals divided into around 200 networks in Sweden operating in the now 61 no-go zones, many of which are heavily migrant-populated, Göteborgs-Posten reports.
Police have said that they are monitoring 61 “no-go zones” but say that 23 of them are particularly vulnerable. Tynnered, a suburb in Gothenburg, is a new addition to the list after cases of car burnings and shootings, the most recent of which occurred earlier this month.
Eliasson warned if the trend persists and crime continues to increase then the social contract could break down in Sweden – though he does not believe Sweden was beyond repair. “Should we want the social contract to hold, people will have to want to pay taxes and participate in society. It must not go any further, we must reverse the trend.”
Though the Swedish interior ministry has promised to hire more police officers, many Swedish police departments are facing an exodus of officers, especially in no-go areas.
According to one report published last year, 80 per cent of Swedish police are considering leaving the force due to issues ranging from violence against them in no-go areas to lack of holiday time and poor funding.
The lack of staff has forced the last remaining police station in Kista, a suburb of Stockholm, to close. Terror researcher Magnus Ranstorp said the closure was a “disaster” and called for more police stations to be opened in the area instead.
In Rinkeby, one of the most infamous no-go areas in Stockholm, authorities have tried to build a new police station that some have likened to a fortress. Due to safety issues in the area, the government has been unable to secure a building contractor to complete the station as many fear being attacked.
Despite the fact the Swedish government refuses to keep statistics on the national origin of suspects, many in Sweden have suspected that migrants make up a large proportion of criminals. The suspicion was confirmed earlier this year when police officer Peter Springare wrote on Facebook that the vast majority of criminal cases that crossed his desk were committed by migrants.
Researcher Johan Patrik Engellau has predicted the situation in Sweden could be far worse than government officials are willing to admit.
In an article earlier this year, he wrote: “I’m afraid it is the end for the well-organised, decent, and egalitarian Sweden we have known up to now. Personally, I would not be surprised if a form of civil war occurs. In some places, the civil war has probably already begun.“”

They were picked up in the central Mediterranean attempting to leave Libya.
One worker at the port explained the refugees’ desperate situation, and their reasoning for attempting the perilous journey, “These people are coming from Libya, and what we know from what people tell us about their experience in Libya, many of them have been exposed to a very bad situation. They’re kept in captivity. There’s forced labour, they’re maltreated, and they’re often even tortured.”

Migrant pressures grow; Italy presses EU nations to do more
Italy’s leader pressed his European Union allies Thursday to take in more migrants, saying the relentless arrival of tens of thousands of rescued migrants on Italian shores is putting his country under enormous strain. He spoke after 10,000 migrants were pulled to safety from the Mediterranean in the last few days alone.
With an election due in less than a year, political pressure is building on Italian Premier Paolo Gentiloni’s center-left government to push for relief from fellow EU nations.
Flanked by EU national leaders and EU officials at a news conference in Berlin, Gentiloni said the growing number of arrivals “puts our welcome capability to a tough test.”
Italy has already taken in hundreds of thousands of migrants in the last few years. Some estimates say 220,000 migrants could land in Italy by the end of 2017.
“It’s a country under pressure, and we ask the help of our European allies,” Gentiloni said, when asked about a reported new Italian strategy of blocking Italy’s ports to non-Italian NGO ships that pluck to safety migrants from distressed dinghies and other unseaworthy boats off the Libyan coast.
While acknowledging that European nations take part in patrols to deter smuggling in the central Mediterranean, Gentiloni said the job of caring for the migrants “remains in one country only” — Italy.
In addition to those who arrive, over 2,000 migrants have died trying to cross the Mediterranean this year, according to the U.N.
On Sunday, Italy’s anti-migrant Northern League Party teamed up with the center-right opposition forces led by former Premier Silvio Berlusconi and triumphed in several mayoral races. The Democrats, Italy’s main government party, took an embarrassing drubbing in the vote.
Many Italian towns say they just can’t handle hosting hundreds of migrants any more. Right-wing parties remind citizens that Italians themselves are suffering from high unemployment and a practically flat economy.
In one port alone Thursday, in Reggio Calabria, 1,066 migrants disembarked from the Save the Children rescue ship Vos Hestia. Among them were 241 unaccompanied minors.
From 2015 to 2016, the number of unaccompanied minors doubled to more than 25,000, according to the Interior Ministry.
This ship’s rescued migrants came from Eritrea, Bangladesh, Somalia and several sub-Saharan nations of Africa and included a four-day-old boy. Six migrants had chicken pox and some 250 showed signs of scabies, so officials set up pressurized showers.
There’s also concern that if Italy, a stalwart supporter of the EU, sours on Brussels because it feels abandoned on the migrant issue, the EU’s very survival itself could be compromised.
“Either the Union can shake itself up, or the fear is that it can collapse definitively,” said Francesco Laforgia, a lawmaker in a leftist party that split recently from the Democrats.
The idea that Gentiloni’s government is mulling blocking Italy’s ports to European NGO ships, which increasingly rescue migrants before EU Frontex military fleets or Italian coast guard vessels arrive, is a dramatic recognition that public patience is wearing thin.
“The situation is no long sustainable,” Nicola Latorre, head of the Senate’s defense commission, told the Il Messaggero daily. “Obviously saving human lives remains a priority. But it’s unthinkable that Italy does it all by itself.”
Earlier Thursday, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini backed Italy’s stance and insisted that other EU countries share the burden of caring for migrants. But previous plans hatched in Brussels to make other EU countries take in a fixed number of migrants from Italy and Greece have failed.
Several central and eastern European EU members — including large countries like Hungary and Poland — have flat out refused to take in a quota of the asylum-seekers, many of whom are economic migrants and not refugees from war or persecution.

As Italy ramps up pressure on the EU to help with the influx of mostly African migrants, there is a warning that any move to block rescue ships would go against humanitarian laws.
Barring vessels, flying foreign flags, from returning to Italian ports, is apparently being considered.
“The argument of force majeure is irrelevant, and, in the end, refusing to allow such people to disembark would amount to inhuman or degrading treatment, which contravenes Article 3 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights,” Philippe De Bruycker, an expert at the Migration Policy Centre, told Euronews.
But, according to the same expert, the Italian government could go beyond political threats – and take a judicial line at the European Union level.
“It is high time that Italy makes its voice heard, not from a political point of view, but from a judicial point of view to remind the European Union, the Commission, the European Council, of their legal obligations in respect of European law,” said De Bruycker.
He is referring to Article 80 of the EU Treaty, which points to “solidarity” and “fair sharing” of responsibility, including financial implications.
EU leaders agree that Italy should get more help to manage arrivals.
But EU Commissioner for Migration, Dimitris Avramopoulos, said: “Italy has to adopt the measures to speed up the procedures and manage migrants on its territory.”
He continued: “We are ready to increase our support to Italy, including substantial financial support if need it. All member states now need to deliver and show solidarity towards Italy.”
Italy’s become the main European arrival point for mostly African migrants. Over half a million people have arrived by boat since 2014 and numbers are up so far this year.

Italy: FRONTEX ship carrying 417 migrants docks at port of Messina
A FRONTEX (European Border and Coast Guard Agency) ship with 417 migrants, including children, arrived in the port of Messina, in the southern Italian island of Sicily, Thursday.
The migrants, mostly coming from Senegal, were picked up and taken on board after a Maltese patrol boat picked them up from a vessel off the Sicilian shore. Among them are reported to be 93 women, 10 of them being pregnant, and several children.
The migrants will reportedly be transferred to specialised facilities in different parts of Italy.

At least that’s the view of a group of Republicans who slammed Trump’s over his tweets attacking MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski, saying the personal jabs about a woman’s looks were unworthy of the presidency.
“Please just stop. This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office,” Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska said on Twitter Thursday.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham also slammed Trump tweeting. “Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America,”
As noted earlier, Trump prompted the latest bout of outrage this morning after calling Brzezinski “crazy” and said she had been “bleeding badly from a face-lift” when he refused to see her in December. Brzezinski hosts the MSNBC show “Morning Joe” with Joe Scarborough.

For about a week now, Benjamin Wittes, the Brookings Institution senior fellow and noted ally of former FBI Director James Comey, has been taunting the Trump administration with tweets suggesting that another ‘bombshell’ story, presumably related to the Russia investigation, was in the works and set to drop any minute (we covered it all here: “Tick, Tick, Tick” Comey Ally Scrambles To Explain Why “Next Trump Bombshell” Didn’t Arrive Today).
Of course, people took notice of the warnings because Wittes posted similar tweets just before the New York Times published their now infamous story on Comey’s memos.
So what was the “bombshell” story? It seems to have come in the form of a rather bizarre, and thoroughly difficult to follow, Wall Street Journal article entitled “GOP Operative Sought Clinton Emails From Hackers, Implied a Connection to Flynn.”
To summarize the ‘bombshell’, the story is about a long-time Republican opposition researcher, 81-year-old Peter W. Smith, who apparently set out on a mission to find Hillary’s 30,000 emails which the FBI confirmed had gone missing. In his efforts to find those emails, he scoured hacking chat rooms looking for clues and/or hackers that might be able to help him. The WSJ alleges that Smith may or may not have been working with Michael Flynn but, in the end, they found absolutely nothing. To summarize even further, a guy tried to find Hillary’s missing emails and failed…HALT THE PRESSES!
Of course, the goal of the story is to paint some sinister plot that involved Smith and Michael Flynn enlisting the help of some Russians to hack the 2016 election…thus ‘proving’ the collusion angle.
Unfortunately, the story seems to prove the exact opposite which is, if Flynn was really running around on some wild goose chase looking for Hillary’s missing 30,000 emails by chatting up hackers on a message board then we have to assume that means he wasn’t in any way connected to the original hack which ended up on WikiLeaks.[…]
[…]What role, if any, Mr. Flynn may have played in Mr. Smith’s project is unclear. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Smith said he knew Mr. Flynn, but he never stated that Mr. Flynn was involved[…]
[…]Meanwhile, the WSJ confirms that Smith died last month at the age of 81.
So there you have it…all the makings of another salacious, ‘bombshell’ story with multiple references to Russians, hackers, collusion, shady dealings with Michael Flynn, etc, etc, etc….yet still no evidence of pretty much anything.

In those days, Hirsi Ali was still known for a clarity of mind which, I think it is fair to say, would have found this Senate panel discussion of -isms and -ists quite absurd. Multiple Islams? “No, that is an erroneous idea,” she said a dozen or so years ago. “If one defines Islam as the religion founded by Muhammad and explained by the Koran and later by hadiths, there is only one Islam that dictates the moral framework.”
That was then. Now she wades through the same bog of euphemism Western civilization has mired itself in, moving ever farther away from forthright talk of Islam.
But it’s seems to be even worse than that. There was something Hirsi Ali said in her testimony that tells me we see things even more differently than I might have thought, even as we both have been i.d.’d as public enemies by the vicious Leftist hate group, SPLC.
In stressing to the committee that we have yet to define the enemy, that our little programs here and there are meaningless next to the rising tide of “Islamists,” Hirsi Ali made it plain that she did not think the Senators understood the urgency of the matter. Well, neither do I. But after she turned to Europe, noting that France has been in a state of emergency since November of 2015, for example, she began (at around 1:40:00) to lament the rise in Europe of “radical right wing groups,” which, she said, “are on the rise as they have never been.”
In the split second befor she completed her thought I wondered what exactly concerned her — neo-Nazi groups? Golden Dawn…? Was she possibly referring to Marine Le Pen …?
I was wrong on all counts.
Hirsi Ali continued:

Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom is the Netherlands’ second largest party.
I replayed her statement to make sure I had understood it correctly. I had. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is sounding the alarm on Europe by warning in part against the rise of “radical right wing groups” — namely, the brilliant and courageous Geert Wilders’ PVV, the most successful political movement to emerge in the West with a clear program to begin to reverse the process of Islamization in the West, which ultimately spells cultural extinction, as any historical map of the Islamic world reveals.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain in 2012 turned over nearly $9 million in unspent funds from his failed 2008 presidential campaign to a new foundation bearing his name, the McCain Institute for International Leadership.
The institute is intended to serve as a “legacy” for McCain and “is dedicated to advancing human rights, dignity, democracy and freedom.” It is a tax-exempt non-profit foundation with assets valued at $8.1 million and associated with Arizona State University.
Conservative and liberal critics, however, believe the institute constitutes a major conflict of interest for McCain, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group has learned.
McCain, a former Navy pilot who was shot down over North Vietnam in 1967 and was then a prisoner of war in the infamous Hanoi Hilton until 1973, is a major political force in Washington, D.C. He is presently chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services.
Critics worry that the institute’s donors and McCain’s personal leadership in the organization’s exclusive “Sedona Forum” bear an uncanny resemblance to the glitzy Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) that annually co-mingled special interests and powerful political players in alleged pay-to-play schemes.
The institute has accepted contributions of as much as $100,000 from billionaire liberal activist-funder George Soros and from Teneo, a for-profit company co-founded by Doug Band, former President Bill Clinton’s “bag man.” Teneo has long helped enrich Clinton through lucrative speaking and business deals.
And Bloomberg reported in 2016 on a $1 million Saudi Arabian donation to the institute, a contribution the McCain group has refused to explain publicly.
In addition, the institute has taken at least $100,000 from a Moroccan state-run company tied to repeated charges of worker abuse and exploitation. The McCain group has also accepted at least $100,000 from the Pivotal Foundation, which was created by Francis Najafi who owns the Pivotal Group, a private equity and real estate firm.
The Pivotal Foundation has in the last three years given $205,000 to the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC), which has been a vocal advocate for the Iranian nuclear deal the Obama administration negotiated.
The NIAC web site claims the group “is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the voice of Iranian Americans and promoting greater understanding between the American and Iranian people.”
But NIAC President Trita Parsi has long been an advocate for Iran, including demanding in May 2017 that President Donald Trump and officials in his administration “cease questioning the integrity of a (nuclear) deal.”
The NIAC is “Iran’s lobbyists in Washington,” charged Aresh Salih, the Washington representative of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan. “People inside of Iran know them as their lobbyists in Washington, D.C.,” Salih told TheDCNF.
The NIAC does not file as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, nor does it register as a lobbyist with Congress.
Yet in May 2013, Parsi spoke to a packed Capitol Hill meeting sponsored by Minnesota Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison to argue in favor of the nuclear deal. Ellison was the first Muslim elected to Congress and is also deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
“This is a very real conflict of interest,” Craig Holman, a government affairs lobbyist at Public Citizen, told TheDCNF. “This is the similar type of pattern we received with the Clinton Foundation in which foreign governments and foreign interests were throwing a lot of money in the hopes of trying to buy influence.”
Liberal consumer advocate Ralph Nader founded Public Citizen.
Lawrence Noble, general counsel for the Campaign Legal Center, told the DCNF that accepting contributions in the name of a sitting senator like McCain raises troubling issues.
“In terms of the ethics of it, it does raise a broad question of people trying to get good will with the elected official,” he said. “From a personal standpoint, I’d rather not see these entities exist.”
Charles Ortel, a retired Wall Street investment banker and philanthropy law expert, told TheDCNF that “high government officials such as John McCain, [former Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama should not get involved with vehicles like these where substantial sums can be funneled over time in ways that at best, reeks of impropriety and at worse are public corruption.”
The institute’s donations not only suggest special pleading before the senator, but also in some instances appear to contradict McCain’s vision of human rights and national security.
It accepted more than $100,000 from OCP, S.A., a Moroccan state-owned phosphate company operating in the Western Sahara, territory which Morocco seized in 1975. The North African country has since occupied the region by force in defiance of U.N. resolutions and legal declarations by other international bodies.
Morocco has come under criticism from human rights groups that the government violates basic human rights and that its state-owned companies subject its workforce to gruesome conditions while exploiting the disputed territory’s natural resources.
The Western Sahara holds half of the world’s phosphate reserves. Used to make fertilizer, phosphate is called Morocco’s “white gold.”
Last week, a South African court ruled in favor of the seizure of an OCP ship charged with illegally carrying 50,000 tons of phosphate from the Western Sahara. The country’s independence movement, which calls the territory the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, succeeded in convincing the court to keep the ship in port until the case is resolved.
The King of Morocco was a major donor to the Clinton Foundation. Hillary Clinton personally accepted $12 million from the King in return for holding a CGI regional meeting in the country.
OCP also was a major sponsor of the CGI meeting, and Bill Clinton was the featured speaker.
The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice has charged OCP with “serious human rights violations,” including exploitation of workers by not “adequately compensating the impoverished people who live there.”
McCain has lavished effusive praise on the King of Morocco, saying in 2011, that the country was a “positive example to governments across the Middle East and North Africa.”
McCain and Soros reportedly became friends after the senator was exposed as a member of the “Keating Five” during the savings and loan (S&L) industry scandal during former President George H.W. Bush’s administration. As the S&L bank chairman, Charles Keating paid $1.3 million to bribe five members of Congress to interfere with government regulators on behalf of the savings bank.
The experience so scarred McCain that he became a vigorous advocate of campaign finance reform and in the process reportedly became friends with Soros.
McCain recently claimed no involvement with the institute, saying “I’m proud that the institute is named after me, but I have nothing to do with it.”
The institute did not respond to requests for the dollar amounts of its high donors, when the donations were made and if there were strings attached to the contributions, claiming it did not have any of the information. Late Monday, the institute’s spokesman referred The DCNF to Arizona State University.

Paris mosque incident: Man tries to ram car into crowd of Muslim worshippers, police say
A man has been arrested after driving a car into a crowd outside a mosque in a suburb of Paris.
No one was injured in the incident on Thursday evening in the Créteil neighbourhood, in the south-east of the French capital.
The vehicle struck barriers put in place to protect worshippers and pedestrians.
A police statement said the suspect “repeatedly struck the blocks and barriers placed to protect the mosque”.
A source quoted in Le Parisien claimed the suspect, reportedly of Armenian origin, wanted to “avenge the Bataclan and Champs-Elysees” attacks.

Man tries to drive car into crowd in front of Paris mosque
A man was arrested after trying to drive a car into a crowd in front of a mosque in the Paris suburb of Creteil on Thursday, police said, adding that no one was injured.
The man’s motives were unclear, and he had not succeeded in reaching the crowd because of barriers in front of the mosque, police said in a statement.
An investigation, to be carried out by a regular police department rather than an anti-terrorism unit, would determine if the man could be held accountable for his actions.
According to Le Parisien newspaper, the man said he had wanted to avenge attacks linked to Islamic State that have killed dozens in Paris over the past years.
Last week, a man drove a van at Muslim worshippers leaving a mosque in London. He was charged with terrorism-related murder and attempted murder.

Many Italian towns say they just can’t handle hosting hundreds of migrants any more. Right-wing parties remind citizens that Italians themselves are suffering from high unemployment and a practically flat economy.
In one port alone Thursday, in Reggio Calabria, 1,066 migrants disembarked from the Save the Children rescue ship Vos Hestia. Among them were 241 unaccompanied minors.
This ship’s rescued migrants came from Eritrea, Bangladesh, Somalia and several sub-Saharan nations of Africa and included a four-day-old boy. Six migrants had chicken pox and some 250 showed signs of scabies, so officials set up pressurized showers.
From 2015 to 2016, the number of unaccompanied minors doubled to more than 25,000, according to the Interior Ministry.
Populist leader Beppe Grillo, founder of the opposition 5-Star Movement, slammed as a “suicide pact” the accord that lets the European sea patrol off Libya bring all the migrants they rescue to Italy.

The MSM’s credibility took another hit today, as the New York Times quietly issued a correction about their claims that all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies agreed that the Russians ‘hacked’ the 2016 presidential election. The REAL number is only 4 agencies held such views.

The New York Times has finally admitted that one of the favorite Russia-gate canards – that all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies concurred on the assessment of Russian hacking of Democratic emails – is false.
In the Times’ White House Memo of June 25, correspondent Maggie Haberman mocked Trump for “still refus[ing] to acknowledge a basic fact agreed upon by 17 American intelligence agencies that he now oversees: Russia orchestrated the attacks, and did it to help get him elected.”On Thursday, the Times appended a correction to a June 25 article that had repeated the false claim, which has been used by Democrats and the mainstream media for months to brush aside any doubts about the foundation of the Russia-gate scandal and portray President Trump as delusional for doubting what all 17 intelligence agencies supposedly knew to be true.
However, on Thursday, the Times – while leaving most of Haberman’s ridicule of Trump in place – noted in a correction that the relevant intelligence “assessment was made by four intelligence agencies — the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency. The assessment was not approved by all 17 organizations in the American intelligence community.”

“A FIRE at a restaurant inside New York’s JFK Airport led to passengers being evacuated this afternoon.
A grease fire inside the Panda Express restaraunt close to departure gate B25 erupted at about 3.30pm local time, Port Authority police said.
Thick smoke emitting from the fire filled the nearby area, causing a section of the aiport to be evacuated.
The fire has since been extinguished.
Video taken by a passenger showed huge flames flying up from behind the service counter of the Chinese eatery, with some bystanders stepping in to film the blaze.
Firefighters were pictured tackling the blaze form the roof of the airport with the help of an aerial ladder.

Sweden Orders Christian School To Thank ‘Sun And Rain’ For Meals Instead Of God

The Swedish governement continued its fascist onslaught against Christianity while it simultaneously coddles Islam this week when it ordered a Salvation Army-run preschool in to change its educational content and cease on its “Bible snack time” lessons and praying grace before meals.
According to Sweden’s Education Act, “confessional” educational content has no place during school time and students must always be allowed to opt out of such activities.
“As a confessional activity, we knew we could no longer have prayer time while children are at their desks where they learn, so we thought we would add grace as a nice feature during mealtimes,” said Britt Marie Mårtensson, the unnamed preschool’s manager. The government deemed this too confessional and said the preschoolers weren’t given enough choice to opt out of it.

Oppo Group Behind “Trump Dossier” Won’t Say Who Paid Them
If you were thinking of giving ANY credence whatsoever to that ridiculous Trump dossier that the media ran wild with back in December, the group behind the infamous publication wants you to know that you’re putting your faith in the wrong basket. Because if they won’t be up front and honest about who, exactly, financed their dig for dirt on the then-GOP candidate for president, then they must not want people to know just how absurdly political this witch hunt was from the beginning. Say what you will about leaks to the media and wild goose chases; if our intelligence community was relying on information like this to investigate Trump, then either the deep state rot is worse than we thought or we have some serious incompetence running through the FBI.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is demanding to know who paid Fusion GPS to get the good on Donald Trump last year, but in a letter to the committee sent Friday, lawyers for the opposition research group say that such a disclosure would violate its First Amendment freedoms…as well as their confidentiality contracts.
So far, we already know that Fusion was hired by a Republican donor of some sort back in 2015 and given the mission of finding something that could be used against Trump. The donor, however, backed away from the investigation when Trump won the Republican primaries. Fusion, already knee deep into the investigation, found another client willing to foot the bill – this time someone who wanted to see Hillary Clinton win the election.

San Fran Taxpayers May Pay Illegal Alien $180K for ICE Notification

Secessionist sanctuary cities and the clashing Federal and local legal systems, one of which deems illegal immigration a crime and the other a virtue, now move to the next stage.

First up to collect his cash prize is Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno who may collect $190K, courtesy of San Francisco’s beleaguered taxpayers, because the police notified ICE that he was an illegal alien.
And so San Fran is on the hook for… following Federal law. The next step will be to make reporting an illegal alien to ICE a crime even for ordinary citizens. And then San Francisco can start jailing people for following Federal law.
Maybe then it can skip right to firing on ICE detention facilities and start the second civil war that the left seems desperate for.
Meanwhile the SFPD is looking to punish the police officer who did his job. Because folloiwng the law is a crime in the lawless lands of the left.

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis claimed Wednesday that the Syrian regime has drawn back from plans to conduct another chemical attack, following a warning by the Trump administration of serious consequences if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces followed through with their plans.
U.S. intelligence detected “active preparations for chemical weapons use” at the same air base from which the regime allegedly had launched its prior chemical attack last April that caused mass casualties. President Trump had responded to the April chemical attack with a barrage of cruise missiles targeting that air base. The White House issued its public warning to the Assad regime on Monday in unambiguous terms, declaring that Assad and his military would pay a “heavy price” if his regime conducted another chemical attack.
“It appears that they took the warning seriously. They didn’t do it,” Mattis told reporters.

The Law Enforcement Shooting the Media Didn’t Care About

The rule of thumb is that the media cares a great deal about police shootings but shrugs at FBI shootings. That’s because, from their perspective, the police are more likely to shoot the wrong people, e.g drug dealers blessed with black skin privilege, and the FBI is more likely to shoot the right people, militia members.
Even while the media wept buckets of tears over every thug shot while attacking a police officer, the LaVoy Finicum case received thumbs up from the media. Government protesters, unlike drug dealers, deserved to be shot. And so the media was, very predictably, caught flatfooted by the latest development.

After the recent terror attacks in Britain, The Spectator wrote: “After five centuries, religious war has returned to England”. The reference is to 1535, when Thomas More was executed for his Catholic beliefs. Tim Farron, a British MP and party leader of the Liberal Democrats who, after refusing for several days to state whether he considers homosexual sex a sin, and gave ambiguous answers on abortion, was not brought to the Tower of London for a public execution. However, almost 500 years after More, Farron saw his political career sacrificed on an almost identical ideological altar as More.
Farron resigned his position as party leader with a dramatic speech. The Daily Mail condemned the “liberal fascism” of the “moral pygmies”. The progressive New Statesman headlined its story on Farron’s resignation as the “decline of liberalism”. Farron said: “We are kidding ourselves if we think we yet live in a tolerant, liberal society”.
It does not matter that Farron had, on gay rights, a 90.4% “positive score”, according to the Public Whip. Or that he repeatedly defended the right to abortion. What was intolerable was that Farron could have nourished, in his Christian conscience, even a minimal doubt.
