  1. I don’t know. The Brit Royal Twit sucks up to sand-devils too. But this topic is getting a lot of play, so I’ll pile on.

    Germany and Islam

Germany has a bizarre historical connection with Islam that lies beneath much of the present day crisis in Europe. One could argue that these connections are just the product of historical coincidences, but with Germany the coincidences seem to add up regularly.

When one studies the age of European imperialism, Germany came late to the game, almost as an afterthought. Bismarck, for all his authoritarian faults, felt that imperialism would do Germany no good, and wanted no part of it. He was overridden by public opinion, and Bismarck’s policy was later repudiated by Kaiser Wilhelm II, who wanted Germany to take her “Place in the Sun.”

Imperialism would not have destroyed Germany, per se; smaller and weaker nations such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and even backward Spain all had empires.

But what set Germany apart was a concerted love of Arabs and Islam.

  2. Europe Must Stop Funding Demonization of Israel

About a year ago, the Ramallah-based Popular Art Center staged a musical performance titled “No to laying down guns.” The European Union funds the center as part of a special project for “increasing Palestinian public awareness of EU core values.”

The Women’s Center for Legal Aid and Counseling (WCLAC) receives 2.5 million euros. One of its senior employees, Manal Tamimi, propagates anti-Semitic cartoons, often defines Israel as a Nazi state, and her tweets include content such as “I do hate Israel, I do hate Zionism, I wish a third intifada coming soon and people rise up and kill all these Zionist settlers everywhere.”

The EU would not dare fund such organizations as the Stop the War Coalition in Britain or Code Pink in America. But they do donate to such organizations in Israel. That is a double standard in all its glory. This article wouldn’t have been written had Europe been funding bodies that advance peace and reconciliation.

      • Dear Yucki, sorry for the late response. I didn’t expect a reply, but I did visit that thread before I posted the (comic relief) video above. That was a kind and sweet note. I left You a video response because the truth is, I was at a loss for words.

  3. Israel Changes Tactics to Tackle Street Terror

The pattern of individual “lone wolf” assaults in Israel matches those in the UK, France, Germany and Belgium. Many are carried out by one or two individuals, armed with knives and crashing into crowds or bus queues with hijacked vehicles.

Israel is undergoing a continuous update of its counter-terror strategy, involving public awareness, new police and counter-terrorist force tactics and improved surveillance.

The commander at the IDF Counter-Terrorist Training School noted that in Israel a bystander would draw a weapon and shoot the perpetrator. “We have 30,000 civilians bearing arms, which they are permitted to do after military service.”

  4. Michael Doran wrote good stuff about the Iran Deal. Very sharp thinker.
    The Fallacy of Israeli Intransigence

It is a fallacy that Israeli intransigence is the key stumbling block in Arab-Israeli relations, and that, therefore, Israeli concessions are the key factor that will create the conditions for a solution. The Israeli withdrawals from Lebanon in 2000 and Gaza in 2005 should have dispelled this idea forever. Rather than having a calming effect, however, those withdrawals only served to increase the bloodlust of Hizbullah and Hamas.

Any withdrawal from territory on the West Bank, therefore, must come with ironclad guarantees of Israeli security. Given the unsettled state of the region in general, the advances of the Iranian alliance in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, the persistence of al-Qaeda and ISIS, and the split among the Palestinians between Hamas and Fatah, no Israeli government could take severe risks with respect to Israeli security on the West Bank and still hope to remain in power.

Israelis are already intensely aware that in a very short period of time they might find themselves peering across the Golan Heights at Iranian soldiers ensconced in Syria. How can the world ask them to take steps that could potentially lead to the Iranian penetration of the West Bank as well?

  5. Elliott Abrams, Bush-2 “neocon”, made a big mistake coming out early as a NeverTrumper. Though Sheldon Adelson likes him [so do I], and he’s dying to be part of PT-45’s team, he hasn’t been forgiven. Maybe in PT’s second term.

The Harm in Trying: The Downside of the Middle East “Peace Process”

Among Israelis and Palestinians, there’s little optimism about renewed American efforts to negotiate a comprehensive Israeli-Palestinian peace deal. The Trump administration is operating under the assumption that there is no harm in trying, but that conclusion is wrong, as round after round of terrorism should attest.

To begin with, it is always harmful for the U.S. to fail. When a president devotes himself to any project and fails to pull it off, his influence and that of the U.S. are diminished. With U.S. influence on the wane in recent years, devoting significant effort to a goal that is unlikely to be attained looks like a misplaced priority.

What’s more, the U.S. has been championing the “peace process” since 1991. What this produces is cynicism about peace talks and about peace. Many Israelis see it as a shield protecting Palestinian malfeasance.

Moreover, when each successive American administration works for a comprehensive peace deal, it tends to neglect the many opportunities to make less dramatic but still consequential real-world progress. If the goal were instead to leave things better than we found them, every incremental bit of progress would be a victory.

That was the “bottom-up” approach taken by former Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who thought Palestinian independence required building the institutions of a viable state first.

    • Mike commented on Eeyore’s essay that he’s started pushing back on some of the ugly stuff. I’m not. I just hide under the bed and watch my world contract.

But a note is in order here. The author of this article is on the Council on Foreign Relations. That’s supposed to be a Satanic organism like the Illuminati or FreeMasons or Banksters, blah, blah, yak, yak.

Garbage. Just stupid garbage from people who’ve never been close to senior policy professionals or moved in their circles. A nose smashed against a bakery window gets a distorted sense of smell.

The CFR has some genuinely bad individual members, but what large umbrella organization doesn’t? It’s no more a collective “globalist cabal” than the Ivy League is uniformly “parlor-pink”. We can’t afford facile oversimplifications or red-herring distractions.

Not now, not when genuine REDS are closing us down.

      • I have always thought that some of the conspiracy theories were started by the communists to give them a cover when real charges are told about their actions. Senator McCarthy told the truth and they have managed to rewrite history to the point that he is considered a villain. They throw the CFR and other groups real and imagined out there so people will take the charges against Obama and Hillary as just one more conspiracy theory.

        • I have always thought that some of the conspiracy theories were started by the communists…

Absolutely agree. Sow dissention and we end up with a Kenyan Moslem puppet and a crooked cracker crime org.

  6. OK – this one is really, really scary.

For years, I had worked with 3 public schools in my area to help kids learn about historical architectural structures – from the ziggurat to medieval forts +++…

In order to achieve this, I used styrofoam and cardboard to build scale replicas of historical building patterns, that the kids would assemble, then ‘give heft to’ by using drywall powder mixed with poster paints and white glue to form the fun (and historically correct) surface to the structures we were working on the scaled replicas of.

In other words, powdered drywall compound had been infused into and ‘ever present’ in just about everything I touched for, like, say, a decade-and-a-half…

There, but for the Grace of God, go I:

    https://apnews.com/a00e2b89b9bf4bf5b7523b15a5626f8c

    • You know X, I would be surprised to learn that you are/were on probation for cocaine… So, I don’t think you need to worry about drywall dust in your car. Your school involvement sounds fantastic! I went to architecture school and have built many a model in my day. We mostly used foam core though. When my children were in school I would go in once a year and explain how communities are developed. At the time, Sim City was popular. I like to think I helped them improve their scores!
My husband finished drywall for a living in the 70’s and was one big dried white blob every day! Plenty of drywall dust in his van.
You would think that Police would have some simple road side test for “white powder.” And, keeping a man in jail for several months while “tests are run” is just outrageous.

  7. Mosaic Pick: Why Israel Destroyed Syrian Tanks Last Weekend

As Syrian government forces, with help from Iran and Russia, mount an offensive to drive rebel groups from their strongholds in the southwestern part of the country, and the rebels counterattack, fighting has intensified in Quneitra just over the border from the Israeli Golan. Last weekend, ten Syrian mortar and tank shells—aimed at rebel troops along the border—landed in Israel, causing the IDF to respond by attacking Syrian positions. Ron Ben-Yishai explains:

[T]he Syrian army tossed aside all of its rules of caution and fired at the rebel forces that attacked it without considering the fact the fire could spill over into Israel. The Syrian army usually avoids firing into Israeli territory, knowing how rapidly and aggressively Israel will respond, as part of its policy not to allow any fire into, or violation of sovereignty on, its territory.

This Israeli policy stems from the understanding that failure to respond aggressively to any spillover into Israeli territory, even an unintentional spillover, will be interpreted as a violation of Israeli sovereignty and could turn from a drizzle into a flood, not to mention wearing out the Israeli deterrence in the Golan Heights. Israel, therefore, has made it a point to respond. . . .

Saturday’s errant fire was unusual in two aspects: first, it included an unusual number of mortar shells and tank projectiles that landed in an open area in Israel, as opposed to the usual spillover of one or two mortar shells. Saturday’s incident also included direct tank fire, and the shooters were perfectly aware of the fact the shells would hit Israeli territory.

Second, there were thousands of Israeli travelers in the Golan Heights when the Syrian mortars were fired, and they could have gotten hurt. The Syrians, who are watching our area at all times, were aware—or at least should have been aware—of that fact, which is why the Israeli response was unusually severe.

  8. Council on Foreign Relations, Steve Cook:
Saudi Arabia’s Untested New Crown Prince: Mohammed Bin Salman Has High Hopes, But Rises to Power at a Dangerous Moment

[Vision 2030] sounds eminently reasonable, but [its] underlying logic is potentially destabilizing. What Mohammed bin Salman is attempting, taken as a whole, amounts to the radical transformation of long-established patterns that have guided the way business, politics, and policy are done in Saudi Arabia.

Any objective analysis of the Saudi economy would come to the conclusion that it is badly in need of reform. The dependence on hydrocarbons, entrenched interests of the royals, extensive patronage, and an elaborate process of consensus building have had distorting effects. Yet as much as these factors pose challenges to Saudi Arabia’s growth and the development of a dynamic economy, they serve another important purpose: they are critical to maintaining a system that has ensured domestic peace and stability for a long time. . . . With Mohammed bin Salman’s promotion, Vision 2030 will [undoubtedly] proceed—risks and all. . . .

Based on Mohammed bin Salman’s record, it is probably best for Saudis to hope that he can grow into his job. He has demonstrated some insight into what ails Saudi Arabia domestically, but his Vision 2030 requires diplomatic deftness rather than the raw power politics he has brought to bear thus far. One can appreciate his desire to break dishes, but it seems ruling Saudi Arabia requires balance. In some ways, Qatar and Yemen are laboratories for the new assertive, independent Saudi foreign and defense policies [that the crown prince appears to favor]. But these have not gone well for anyone and promise to do more damage if left unchecked.

There is a role here—if President Trump does not undermine it—for Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, or some combination of those three to help shape Mohammed bin Salman’s approach to the region. If they cannot, American policymakers will be confronted with a far bigger problem than an impulsive prince: the destabilization of Saudi Arabia.

    https://www.cfr.org/blog-post/saudi-arabias-untested-new-crown-prince-mohammed-bin-salman-has-high-hopes-rises-power

    • Here’s an example of a quintessentially WRONG CFR. The hidebound State Department viewpoint that never understood the dynamics of the Middle East. That bought into Arab duplicity and got taken for a ride on a mean camel.

Though PT-45 gets it, Tillerson, Mattis, and McMaster are a terrible trio. This Saudi Crown Prince, a ”young Turk” [so to speak], is indeed destabilizing. But the alternative status-quo/-go-slow is just biding time till the MB and al-Qaeda can takeover gently. As Mj. Coughlin explains, their brand of “peace” means “we submit”.

And even that’s not realistic with a frisky Iran that can’t be placated or kept in a bottle. That’s on us. Rather, on the collaborators with the worst of the bad.

Too many MB- fellow-travelers in the USA. We’re riddled with them; they thrive in the Deep State. It’s also fine with Iran. Which tells you all you have to know about their threat to America.

      • “… Tillerson, Mattis, and McMaster are a terrible trio.”

It good to see someone say this openly. If anything, this is one example of where Trump’s political naïveté really hurts America.

    • “Any objective analysis of the Saudi economy would come to the conclusion that it is badly in need of reform. The dependence on hydrocarbons, entrenched interests of the royals, extensive patronage, and an elaborate process of consensus building have had distorting effects.”

The article fails to mention how Saudi Arabia—and almost all other MME (Muslim Middle East) countries—are utterly dependent upon Western wheat exports. If the flow of wheat into the MME were halted, mass starvation would set in after THREE WEEKS. Look up the term “food security” sometime.

Food treaty or not, it’s time to stop feeding the hand that bites us. Amend the food treaty to exclude all terrorist nations then sit back and watch just how quickly they liquidate their jihadis.

      • This was the unspoken threat during the Cold War, if the US and Canada stopped shipping wheat the Soviet Union would have starved. It is time to say screw the stupid leftist pushed humanitarian treaties not to use food as a weapon and pressure our frenemies through their stomachs. The main problem with this is I don’t think Iran gets its food from us so they would stay strong while we weaken their enemies. I wish we were fighting in a two sided war but in the multisided war some moves are removed because we will end up strengthening the more urgent enemy.

        • Agree, Norse. Agree, Richard.

What’s more, Iran’s crony resource managers have greatly accelerated domestic infrastructure collapse. Desertification is growing by leaps and bounds.

They’re vulnerable in so many ways that don’t grab the attention they should. That’s partly a media issue.

And as you say, it has profound strategic and military implications. Why aren’t we capitalizing on them? Even discussion of something so sensitive might be a subtle rein on an out-of-control enemy- of- our -allies.

Look at the defense contractors falling over themselves – in NATO countries, including our own (more discreetly) – for mulla-billions.

Look who’s running our Intel Community, even our “outsider” SecDef. Tell me whose side they’re on?

        • From a 2015 article: Iran to buy up to 2 million tons of wheat

“Qanbari named Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Germany, Australia and Canada as the countries from which Iran will buy wheat.”

You may recall me expressing a desire that America, Canada & Australia might set up a wheat syndicate that would terminate exports to countries that sponsor Islamic terrorism.

More recent articles at the website indicate that Iran has set up a crash program to implement domestic production of wheat. It seems as though they got my memo. See: Middle East and Egypt: Winter Wheat

Of far greater importance is where the water will come from to irrigate these wheat crops. A quick search on, “Middle East Water Map”, will show how Iran has serious salinity issues, even as Saudi Arabia has numerous aquifers and high-capacity desalinization plants, but little arable land (i.e., topsoil).

The West has just one or two decades (at best) within which to grab these scumbag jihadist governments by the proverbial short-and-curlies as part of reading them a “riot act” whose epilogue includes (enhanced yield) devices, with all of the abundant and well-deserved mushroom-shaped cloud banks that continued jihad so explicitly implies.

Allowing MME (Muslim Middle East) countries to gain Food Security is tantamount to giving them access to nuclear weapons. Either way, they become immune to the (erstwhile dire) consequences of their too-often heinous atrocities.

  9. Man has to be forcefully removed from a regional train in Germany after a routine ticket check revealed to train security the passenger did not pay. A free lance journalist, Natalija Miletic films the incident and accuses the security team of racially motivated violence against the passenger of African origins. (She speaks in English).

    • Germany: Ticket inspectors suspended following violent removal of black passenger

Deutsche Bahn spokesperson Achim Strauss said the company is concerned and regrets that a ticket inspection turned violent at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday, after footage emerged of two employees brutally forcing a passenger off a train in Munich.

SOT, Achim Stauss, Deutsche Bahn spokesperson (German): “We are concerned by the images of the S-Bahn of Munich. We very much regret that a ticket inspection developed into such a violent confrontation. Deutsche Bahn condemns every form of violence and that’s why we train our employees for ticket inspections intensively so that they are able to deescalate conflicts and to avoid the use of violence.”

SOT, Achim Stauss, Deutsche Bahn spokesperson (German): “The actual case in Munich is being handled by the Federal Police. I hope you will understand that I won’t discuss any prejudgement at this stage.”

SOT, Achim Stauss, Deutsche Bahn spokesperson (German): “As for the accusation of racism towards our employees, I reject decisively this accusation. Deutsche Bahn is against any form of racism and there is no evidence in this particular case that events have been inspired by racist motives.”

SOT, Achim Stauss, Deutsche Bahn spokesperson (German): “It happens during ticket inspections, when passengers don’t have a ticket a conflict can arise, especially when they are not willing to give their personal details. In those cases the police is called, but this kind of escalation, as happened in Munich, is an absolutely isolated case.”

SOT, Achim Stauss, Deutsche Bahn spokesperson (German): “Ticket inspectors of the Deutsche Bahn have the juridical right to detain a passenger who is trying to avoid the inspection. But this rarely happens.”

SOT, Achim Stauss, Deutsche Bahn spokesperson (German): “We spoke with the two employees and they have been suspended from inspections until the case has been completely clarified.”

    • The journalist Claus Strunz, has ventured an experiment and lived 24 hours as a Jew in Berlin. The broadcast “akte 2017” shows from Sat1 what he experienced.

Claus Strunz, is filmed at the Friedenau Community School in Schöneberg. A school where a Jewish pupil had been threatened and choked, and found there an incredible hatred from Muslim offspring toward Jews.

Strunz and his team were cursed as bastards and whores, and stones were thrown at him and his film crew. Uwe Runkel, the headmaster, denied the journalist an interview about the conditions at his “school without racism – school with courage”.

  11. Iran’s Flag on Israel’s Border: “We Are Coming”

I spent Tuesday touring the Lebanese and Syrian borders with Israel. Across the border, near the Hizbullah flags, is a large banner with the Iranian flag, a visible presence of Iran just a stone’s throw from Israel.

On a hill overlooking Metulla is another huge poster with the face of Ayatollah Khomeini glowering down over the Dome of the Rock. Hizbullah has written “we are coming” in Hebrew and Arabic. Here is Iran glowering down on Israel from the north.

Iran is reaching a peak of influence and power in the region. Its tentacles stretch across Syria and Iraq and Hizbullah is emboldened.

Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah boasts of bringing thousands of foreign fighters to help him attack Israel. He sees Shi’ites from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen joining the assault.

  12. Iran Launches “Hizbullah Syria” to Open a New Front Against Israel on the Golan Heights</b

Iran views Syria (with or without Assad) as its principal arena of conflict with the West and with "heretic Sunni Islam" (under the leadership of Saudi Arabia).

The Iranian Jomhouri Eslami newspaper stated: "The establishment of Syria's Hizbullah…will also be a strong arm of the resistance that will cause nightmares for the Zionists. The Zionist regime that was concerned about threats from the Lebanese borders, now should prepare itself for a new situation (on the Golan Heights front)."

Iran's defense posture is designed to distance the Iranian homeland from any threat, to conduct the campaign against Israel and the West in areas distant from Iran, and to use Syrian and Lebanese territory to deter Israel or retaliate if its nuclear installations are attacked.

In the buds of "Hizbullah Syria" lay the infrastructure for enhanced Iranian subversion in the Golan Heights, which is perceived by Iran as a new and extended confrontation line with Israel.

Thirty years after his release from Soviet camps, where he was imprisoned for clandestine Zionist activity, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein on Wednesday addressed Russia’s Federation Council, the upper house of parliament. The Islamic Republic of Iran and its allies abroad on Friday commemorated Qods (Jerusalem) Day, an annual event established by Ayatollah Khomeini. Qods Day marches were held in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America, highlighting Iran’s influence and global reach. Across several cities in Iraq, militiamen of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) led marches calling for “death to America” and “death to Israel.” In Damascus, Fatah and the pro-Assad Arab Nationalist Guard participated in Qods Day marches.

In Latin America, Qods Day events were held in Brazil, Argentina, El Salvador and Venezuela. Protesters marched in Tanzania and Nigeria, as well. In Berlin and London, several hundred marched waving Hizbullah flags and effigies of Khomeini and Khamenei. Pro-Palestinian activists marked Qods Day in New York City and Toronto. In most cases, Iranian embassy staff helped organize Qods Day.

  16. Illinois Is Venezuela and the Solution Is Cryptocurrency
Why bitcoin suddenly makes sense to ordinary Americans

The reason I’m so much fun at parties is that my idea of a good time is to lecture everyone on cryptocurrency. I can pretty much talk bitcoin and blockchain with Hamiltonian fervor all night.

Ever since I began writing about cryptocurrency in general in 2013—I believe this story I wrote for Esquire in fall of that year was the first ever mainstream media mention of Ripple (on whose board I now sit)— I have been making one point to anyone who will endure my “what is cryptocurrency” lecture. People are all wrong about the difference between cryptocurrency and “real money.”

By real money, people invariably mean fiat currency issued by a government. To counter the argument that “real money” is somehow safer than crypto I’ve pointed to Argentina’s 40 percent inflation rate, or the Weimar Republic, and its famous

    http://observer.com/2017/06/illinois-is-venezuela-and-the-solution-is-cryptocurrency/

      • That is my preference, bit coin and the other cryptocurrencies are just different type of fiat currencies, the difference is that no government is backing them. The precious metals on the other hand are valuable based on their scarcity and will always have some value for various purposes both industrial and as jewelry. The cryptocurrencies may take a little longer to collapse but during major recession/depression they would lose their value like all other fiat currencies.

Another way to look at them is that they are a ponzi scheme that hasn’t collapsed yet, but the same is true of the other fiat currencies.

      • I intended to make my comments in the reply right after I posted the article but other things interfered and I had to wait. As I said the cryptocurrencies are a form of a ponzi scheme with the value being instilled by the people who are willing to use them, the groups backing them are trying to keep them scarce to avoid the fate of the government backed fiat currencies but in the long run they will suffer the same fate that the national fiat currencies are facing. In the long run precious metals are the only stable backing for paper currencies.

  17. Lottery to again delay large payouts due to Illinois budget woes

Illinois Lottery players should prepare for a bit of deja vu — with a twist — if Illinois leaders don’t pass a budget by Friday night.

Not only will the popular Powerball and Mega Millions tickets be off the shelf, but also any big winners of any of the other draw or instant games will have to wait to collect their cash.

The Illinois Lottery announced Tuesday that, without a budget or any special legislation, it won’t be able to pay anyone winning $25,000 or more come July 1. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the state did the same thing to players for months in late 2015 — spurring lawsuits and an estimated $70 million in lost sales — before the General Assembly passed a special bill that allowed the agency to pay out the nearly 3,900 stacked-up claims.

The difference, this time, is that players won’t even get the opportunity to win big and wait for their cash in two of the most popular games. That’s because the multistate organizations that run those games — Powerball and Mega Millions — have told Illinois to stop selling tickets to those games this week if no budget deal is reached.

Players, however, will still be able to play other draw games and buy scratch-offs. For those games, any winnings of $25,000 or less will be paid out as usual, at one of the state’s five Prize Centers. Winners of $600 or less can continue to cash out at the state’s nearly 8,000 retailers, according to the lottery.

  18. Mark Langfan is a MAP person. He knows what he’s talking about.

    Putin is drowning in Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Syrian gambit was a fatal mistake that may soon destroy Russia and Putin himself. Putin’s strategy in Syria makes the Titanic look watertight.

It’s gotten so bad for Putin in the Syrian quicksand that a Russian analyst, Leonid Issaev, who actually lives in Russia, just published an article in al-Jazeera entitled, “Russia is at a dead-end in Syria, Russia is struggling and failing to find a way out of the Syrian quagmire.” Mr. Issaev’s thesis is that “the Kremlin’s gamble to use the conflict in Syria to normalize relations with the West after the disaster in Ukraine is not paying off. Moscow is appearing to be stuck in Syria, entangled in Damascus’ and Tehran’s desperate plots.”

For a Russian analyst living in Russia to openly declare Putin’s Syria policy a “dead-end” without fearing for his life shows how truly dire the Syrian situation is for Putin.

    • Taken to this extreme is Langfan’s wishful thinking. But dial it down and it’s consistent with other information.

Putin wants his Mediterranean. He doesn’t want Assad as a “puppet” – useless with broken, tangled strings – just a placeholder for the Russian base who will protect Christians. The latter is important because the that’s what the Russian people care about.

Plus it looks good. Just the fact Assad’s still alive demonstrates that Russia stands by it’s allies. 0’s USA sold out Mubarak and Gaddafi. For what? Other countries – with far more positive potential – are paying close attention. Trust is harder to come by in the Mideast, where talk is cheap and lies and ‘temporary truces’ are business as usual. Proof is manifest.

A replacement for Assad will have to be secular (minority-tolerant) and honor treaties with Russia going back decades. NONE of the Sunni opposition (our coalition or “moderate jihadis” or MB-flavors) share that vision.

Neither does Iran, of course. No shared objectives, an unstable relationship. Russians find working with Shitte militias odious. They don’t trust each other at all and Russians would love nothing better than to pack-up and go home. Or hang out in Allawi-stan, where many speak Russian and act semi-human.

      • Your take is a lot more realistic then the other two. When Putin finds an acceptable successor to Assad who can take over the land around the Russian enclave, protect the Christians and honor the old treaties Assad will go.

Don’t forget the Iranian desire for a naval base in Syria and Libya, they want to be there to threaten Israel and Europe, I can’t find the article I was think about but here is one that I have skimmed but not fully read.

        • The Devil has bad breath.
I don’t forget anything about threats to Israel’s security from anyone. Ever.

Iranian wants and needs are incompatible with Israel’s survival. Irrespective of the US, EU, Russia, China, Iran or the Kookie Korean, Israel IS the bottom line.

Ultimately that’s up to the Lord Almighty.

  20. Newt Gingrich Says Obama Should Testify in Russia Probe

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is calling on former President Obama to testify before Congress in the Russia probe.

This after President Trump slammed Obama for being too slow to act when he was informed Russia was allegedly meddling in the election in August of 2016.

The president said the CIA gave Obama information on Russia well in advance of the November election, but he failed to properly address the issue.

Obama admitted he held back on retaliating against Russia, and has received backlash for his response from top democrats on the House Intelligence Committee.

Gingrich believes the narrative is shifting away from President Trump, and towards the former president.

  21. Economists wildly overestimated economic growth for 6 of 8 Obama years
By LU Staff June 27, 2017

White House economists overestimated annual economic growth by about 80 percent on average for a six year stretch during Barack Obama’s presidency, according to Freedom Works economic consultant Stephen Moore.

Economists predicted growth between 3.2 to 4.6 percent for the years 2010 through 2015. Actual economic growth never hit above 2.6 percent.

“Why does anyone bother to listen to economists anymore?” Moore writes in The Washington Times. “Almost all of the economics profession … bought into the Keynesian idea that what would revive the economy after the Great Recession of 2008-09 was massive government spending ‘stimulus.’ The trillions of dollars of government borrowing here and abroad created a decade-long anemic recovery.”

Keynesian economic thought dominated Obama’s economic policy after the Great Recession, economics professor Richard McKenzie wrote for the Foundation of Economic Education in 2010.

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2017/06/27/economists-wildly-overestimated-economic-growth-6-8-obama-years/

    • The problem with the government spending approach is that the vast majority of the money goes into the pockets of the Crony Capitalists that the governments picks to stimulate the economy. very little of it gets to the people who need the money and whose spending would help the economy. The last time I look (a couple of years ago) all of the deficit spending that Obama did would have let him give every person in the US $74,000 dollars. This would have been used to pay off loans, repair houses and spent on necessities and frivolous items. It would also have done more good for the economy the Obama’s approach. Of course the best way would have been, cut taxes, cut government payroll (fire bureaucrats) and with the exception of the military and police cut government spending. This approach works every time we can shove it past the Dems. They refuse to do this because you have to cut taxes for the rich as well as the poor and they want to punish the rich that aren’t their friends.

  22. SCOTUS limits rights of property owners
By LU Staff June 27, 2017

The Supreme Court constrained the rights of property owners Friday, establishing a test that favors government officials in assessing the loss of property value caused by government regulations.

Writing for a 5-3 court, Justice Anthony Kennedy explained that state and local officials can combine separate parcels of land in assessing whether local government has effectively seized private property through regulation, requiring compensation. Kennedy’s opinion was joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. Chief Justice John Roberts filed a fiery dissent, joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

The case concerned a Wisconsin family called the Murrs, who argued that the government has unconstitutionally taken their land by refusing to allow them to sell it.

“This is an unfortunate decision for the Murrs, and all property owners,” said John Groen, general counsel and vice president of the Pacific Legal Foundation, a public interest group that represented the family. Groen added:

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2017/06/27/scotus-limits-rights-property-owners/

    • This is why getting about two more conservatives on the court is a necessity, Thomas retiring and being replaced by a conservative would be nice since he swings both left and right but getting someone like Ginsburg off the bench and replaced by a conservative would ensure that no matter who the President is the nation would slowly swing back to the nation and government the Founding Fathers wanted.

I say slowly because we will have to educate the coming generations in how to think and act for themselves rather then depend on the government for everything.

  25. The Brutal Battle Against Medical Kidnappers
How powerful medical care providers are imprisoning and torturing sick kids.
    June 28, 2017
    Michelle Malkin

BOSTON — On the day Boston Children’s Hospital celebrated being named “the number one pediatric hospital in the nation” by U.S. News & World Report, I was interviewing Dana Gottesfeld in nearby Somerville, Massachusetts. Dana is the young wife of Martin “Marty G” Gottesfeld, an imprisoned technology engineer/activist who used his skills to fight against medical child abuse committed at Boston’s Children’s Hospital.

“That is so Boston,” Dana observed Tuesday in response to the new ranking — which is already splashed in multiple gold medallions across the hospital’s website.

It’s all about power, prestige and pull in the top echelons of the Bay State’s medical community, many New Englanders have informed me. BCH’s teaching affiliate is Harvard Medical School. The ties between and among influential and wealthy alumni in the realms of health care, politics and the courts are innumerable.

It’s a network that’s “practically untouchable,” Dana explained.

And like the third rail, those who dare challenge these renowned institutions risk great danger to their freedom and their lives.

    • In my opinion, it’s imperative to have a Healthcare Advocate for any inpatient stay. Even complicated outpatient interventions. Especially critical at these gigantic, tertiary-care teaching hospitals. Medical professionals who become patients need that interface as much as any layperson.

I’d sooner go without medication than without an Advocate. Or food. I wouldn’t sell my soul, but I’d probably rent it.

It’s a new profession and there are various skill sets, fees, and services offered. Some are volunteers from faith communities, others are retired nurses. There are medical social workers (who can save you far more than you pay them), and forensic attorneys. Family members who are assertive and learn the jargon can do it too, though experience in working these onion-layered institutions is the best qualification of all.

  26. America’s Gang Crisis: Congressional Hearings Focus on MS-13
As with international terrorists, transnational gangs exploit immigration failures.
    June 28, 2017
    Michael Cutler

Failures of the immigration system are, once again, behind headline-making news reports. Last week two Congressional hearings were conducted into what has become America’s most pernicious and violent transnational gang, MS-13 that now operates in some 40 states.

I am very familiar with MS-13, I began investigating them nearly 25 years ago early into my assignment at the Organized Crime, Drug Enforcement Task Force following my promotion to INS Senior Special Agent.

Back then the number of the members of MS-13 in New York was small, consequently and the impact they had was also relatively small.

The immigration policies of the Clinton and Bush administrations certainly did not help law enforcement. However, the greatest influx of MS-13 gang members is directly related to the flood of Unaccompanied Minors from Central America during the latter part of the Obama administration.

  27. Poynter Institute Misrepresents New York Times Smear Behind Palin Lawsuit
    June 28, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

You might know the Poynter Institute better as the organization behind the tendentious partisan “International Fact-Checking Network” which has been rolled into Facebook to push its agenda on your feed. Fact checking used to mean that the media verified its facts before publishing. Now it’s just another way to describe partisan media attacks on political opponents to the right.

So Poynter’s take on Sarah Palin’s lawsuit against the New York Times for accusing her of inciting the Giffords shooting is predictably misleading.

The lawsuit comes after a June 14 New York Times editorial, titled “America’s lethal politics,” that argued the recent shooting of U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise was a product of America’s fraught political and policy climate.

To illustrate the connection between Scalise’s and Giffords’ shooting, the original editorial noted that, before Giffords was shot, a political action committee associated with Palin “circulated a map that showed the targeted electoral districts of Ms. Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs.”

Poynter is very deliberately cutting out the most damning part of that paragraph.

…In 2011, when Jared Lee Loughner opened fire in a supermarket parking lot, grievously wounding Representative Gabby Giffords and killing six people, including a 9-year-old girl, the link to political incitement was clear. Before the shooting, Sarah Palin’s political action committee circulated a map of targeted electoral districts that put Ms. Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs.

That reads rather differently than Poynter’s version. As it’s meant to.

“The link to political incitement was clear” is the part that’s left out. And it’s the most damning part as it directly accuses Palin of inciting the murder with the map. But the Poynter Institute and its managing editor have an agenda. Which is why they should not be in a position of fact checking anyone except themselves.

  28. D.C. Offers Gender-Neutral Driver’s Licenses at Odds with Federal Law

    JUNE 21, 2017

The famously corrupt local government surrounding the nation’s capital is offering gender-neutral driver’s licenses, even though it violates federal law. Beginning next week residents in Washington D.C. can obtain the gender-neutral licenses, according to a local news report that quotes the D.C. councilwoman behind the measure proclaiming “you have the right to make a choice between male and female.” In the article the lawmaker, Brianne Nadeau, is referred to as a gender-neutral “council member.”

Residents will have an array of gender choices that include “non-binary” and “undesignated,” according to the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Depending on what option is chosen, an “X” will appear on the card in the place of an “M” for male or “F” for female. Councilwoman Nadeau, who represents Ward 1, is sponsoring a bill to make the gender-neutral licenses part of the permanent city code. She’s concerned that the gender-neutral license program can be revoked by a new administration in D.C. government. “The District has always sought to be a safe and welcoming place for our LGBTQ community, and today we are continuing to deliver on that legacy,” the councilwoman said in a statement posted on her official website. “Gender is a spectrum and some of our residents do not identify as male or female. Current licenses force residents to conform to genders that don’t accurately reflect their identity. This has not only a practical impact but also a deeply negative emotional and mental health impact. This bill changes District identification documents so they can accurately reflect the needs of our residents.”

  29. This is Why Robert Mueller Needs to Be Watched Like a Hawk

Rep. Jason Chaffetz appeared on Fox News on Sunday to say that while he had respect for former FBI Director Robert Mueller, that respect did not extend to allowing the special counsel to have unlimited free reign over the Russia investigation.

“Just because you are a special counsel doesn’t mean you go unimpeded,” insisted Chaffetz. “There needs to be someone looking over the shoulder of the special prosecutor as well.”

Chaffetz said that reports about the team Mueller was developing made the special counsel’s motivations even more suspect.

“There’s no balance there,” Chaffetz said of Mueller’s team, which consists mostly of Democrat loyalists, donors, and allies. “Do you really think you’re going to get a fair and honest hearing? That doesn’t sound like a very balanced approach.”

In an op-ed this week, Newt Gingrich said that the donors who were actually a part of Mueller’s team were only the tip of the iceberg when it came to this investigation’s biases. He produced a few interesting figures that show just what Trump is up against…and the picture is not a pretty one:

A new set of numbers I found this week show Mueller’s wide-ranging, untethered investigation represents a broader coordinated effort by two staunchly anti-Trump factions: the Left and the fourth branch of government — in this case the entrenched bureaucrats working at the Department of Justice.

The first set of numbers is one that I have referenced before: $286,797, the overwhelming dollar amount that Department of Justice employees gave to Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election and $8,756, the amount they gave to Donald Trump. This represents a 97 percent bias toward Clinton.

The second set of numbers is even more interesting. It represents the dollar amounts of campaign donations made by employees at WilmerHale, the law firm where Mueller served as a partner prior to being appointed special counsel and a firm from which he has already recruited several members of his investigative team. Employees of the firm gave an astounding $326,798 to the Clinton campaign in 2016, while giving a paltry $628 to the Trump campaign. For every $1 this group gave to Trump, it gave $520.37 to Clinton.

We cannot expect anything approximating “justice” to come out of this. This is a political war. Nothing more and nothing less. And while Gingrich is confident that they won’t be able to bring down the president with their phony investigation, he is right when he says that they won’t stop until they’ve gotten themselves “a trophy.”

Unless, of course, the American people demand an end to this nonsense before things get any crazier.

  31. BREITBART – Paris Residents Unable to Sleep Through ‘Intense’ Overnight Mosque Loudspeaker Sessions

The loudspeakers of a Mée-sur-Seine mosque blasting out prayers and songs in the early hours of the morning through Ramadan caused chaos with the sleep patterns of Parisians living in the French capital’s south-eastern suburb, locals have said.

As well as operating year-round on Friday afternoons, the loudspeakers were in action from 11.30 pm each night until past 1 am during the Islamic holy month so as to allow Muslims praying on the streets outside, due to lack of space in the mosque, to hear.

“The loudspeaker is so intense,” a resident told Le Parisien. “We hear prayers, songs and readings delivered in a fashion that is completely disrespectful of people who follow other religions, and atheists.

“Some nights it is impossible to get more than four hours sleep because even after the prayers end, the faithful then engage in discussions which can last for another two hours.”

The French newspaper reports that frustrated locals said neither Mée-sur-Seine’s mayor, Franck Vernin, nor the police responded to their complaints.

Contacted by Le Parisien, the Union of Democrats and Independents mayor said he is “well aware” of residents’ distress at the nocturnal noises emanating from the mosque, reporting that he contacted the local Muslim union to “ensure calm”, asserting that the Union of Méens Muslims (UMM) are “very responsive, whenever there is a problem”.

UMM boss Mourad Salah said the mosque “tried to solve the problem by reducing the sound”, but explained the noise pollution will continue to be an issue until Muslims in the district have a sufficiently large place of worship.

“The loudspeaker is not located on the outside of the building, but in the prayer room, and the doors are left open so that the faithful who are having to pray outside can hear.

“For more than five years we have been doing this for want of a more suitable place to pray,” he said, explaining that the mosque held more than 300 people during Ramadan, with as many faithful praying outside on the street on some nights this year.

“On the night of June 21 to 22, we were collecting alms to build a mosque which properly serves our needs, and there were 150 people out there.

“I understand that locals are fatigued with the heat and we apologise for that,” said the UMM chief, adding: “But the ball is in the mayor’s court. Until we have a place of prayer worthy of the name, with a much greater capacity, it is difficult for anything to change.”

President of the Union of Seine-et-Marne Muslims, Boudjema Hammache, agreed with Salah, telling Le Parisien: “It is a duty to show respect and appeasement to others.”

  35. Italy threatens to close ports to NGO migrant rescue ships (abcnews, Jun 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/italy-seeks-eu-support-amid-wave-migrant-arrivals-48328178

“Italy threatened Wednesday to close its ports to aid groups rescuing migrants off Libya’s coast as it struggles to cope with the highest rate of rescues this year, officials said.

Italy’s ambassador to the EU, Maurizio Massari, raised the issue during a meeting with EU migration commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, as a half-dozen different ships offloaded some of the more than 10,000 migrants rescued in recent days.

“Italy is right that the situation is untenable along the Central Mediterranean route,” Avramopoulos said in a statement, adding that other EU members concurred and that the bloc was ready to increase financial assistance to help Italy manage the flows.

Italy, however, is mulling a ban on non-Italian flagged rescue ships disembarking migrants in Italian ports, though not those participating in the EU’s Frontex rescue operation, officials said. That would affect mostly European-based humanitarian rescue ships, which have flooded the waters off Libya’s coast in the past year to pick up migrants.

Some of those groups have also been accused by Italian prosecutors of alleged collusion with Libyan-based smugglers.

On Wednesday alone, ships from aid groups MOAS and Doctors Without Borders, as well as Frontex ships, arrived in Italian ports with the more than 10,000 migrants rescued in recent days…”

    • Die Welt wrote that on Tuesday arrived 5,000 migrants. Die Welt also wrote:
From high government circles, the WELT learned on Wednesday that “there is still an increase in the initial reception areas”. Schools, sports halls, barracks, factory buildings, would be transformed into areas for refugees in the next few weeks. This will increase the 200,000 places in the facilities by several tens of thousands.
