    “London police early Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old man in east London in connection to the lethal attack on London Bridge and are searching his home.

    Two men are now in custody on suspicion of violating the Terrorism Act. They have not been identified or charged. All others who had been arrested have been released without facing charges.

    London officials said a large part of the outer cordon of the crime scene had reopened. Borough Market, a popular gathering place, remains closed as more evidence is gathered.

    The attack, and prior attacks in Manchester and near Parliament in London, have prompted Prime Minister Theresa May to call for tougher counter-terrorism laws even if it means changing human rights protections…”

    “The Islamic State group claimed a pair of attacks Wednesday on Iran’s parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, which have killed two security guards and wounded more than 30 people, with the siege at the legislature still underway.

    It marks the first attack in Iran claimed by the extremist group, which is at war with Iranian-backed forces in Syria and Iraq. In a message posted through its Aamaq News Agency, the IS group claimed its fighters were behind the assaults.

    The group often claims attacks around the world, even when links to the group cannot be confirmed and appear dubious. Iranian security officials have not said who is behind the attacks.

    Sunni extremists, including the IS, despise Shiite-majority Iran. Iran has also come under attack in the past by Arab insurgents.

    The unusual attacks in Iran prompted the Interior Ministry to call for an urgent security meeting, according to the state-run IRNA news agency…”

    “Amnesty International’s chairman in Turkey has been detained as part of a crackdown against people suspected of links to U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkey accuses of orchestrating last year’s failed coup.

    The rights advocacy group said late on Tuesday that Taner Kilic, a lawyer, was detained at his home in western Turkish city of Izmir along with 22 other lawyers. Both his home and office were searched, Amnesty said.

    His detention did not appear to be linked to his work with Amnesty International and the organization was not believed to be specifically targeted in the police sweep, the rights group said. Amnesty said it was not clear why Kilic was suspected of having ties to Gulen’s movement…”

    “The European Union has slapped new security screening on imports from Bangladesh, a move that is likely to make it costlier for businesses in the South Asian country to sell products to EU nations.

    Just over half of Bangladeshi exports go to the European bloc, accounting for $18.68 billion in revenues during the last fiscal year. Those shipments, by air or sea, will now have to be screened by bomb-detecting dogs and devices.

    Bangladesh has none of these facilities, so cargo will have to be routed through a third country where security screening is possible.

    The move makes Bangladesh the 13th country designated as “-high risk” for EU commerce. It was unexpected, according to Bangladeshi government officials, who said they were given no explanation when informed Monday of the change. The EU ambassador’s office in Dhaka did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

    Last year, Britain, Germany and Australia banned direct cargo shipments from Dhaka’s international airport, citing its poor security system.

    The country has suffered a string of deadly attacks in recent years claimed by extremists targeting perceived enemies of Islam, including bloggers, rights activists, atheists, religious minorities and foreigners. The government has blamed the attacks on home-grown extremists bent on re-establishing Islamic rule in the secular nation.

    The government has offered little comment about the EU move. But Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon criticized Brussels for delivering the news as a surprise, and said the government would work quickly to establish an adequate screening mechanism in the country. But getting everything in place could take months.

    Business leaders are worried about the possible delays in screening, when they are already scrambling to fulfill large orders on short notice despite frequent power outages that shut operations down.

    Some air shipments from Bangladesh are already being routed through Dubai, Istanbul or Doha for screening, and some sea shipments are going through Colombo or Singapore…”

    “Turkey’s state-run news agency says Turkish police and coast guards have seized more than a ton of heroin in a raid on a Congo-flagged ship in international waters.

    Anadolu Agency said Wednesday the heroin was one of the largest amounts seized by Turkish authorities in recent years.

    The Turkish forces stopped the Commander Tide ship in the Mediterranean on June 2, acting on a tip that it was carrying drugs destined for Turkey, the agency said.

    The heroin was found hidden in secret compartments and the ship’s nine crew members were detained, the report said.

    The ship was brought to a port in the Turkish Mediterranean coastal town of Marmaris and some 1,000 bags containing the drug were put on display for journalists.”

    “A U.S. official says the fight for Raqqa, the Islamic State group’s de facto capital, will “only accelerate” as the militants lose their grip on Iraq’s Mosul.

    Brett McGurk, the U.S. envoy for the global coalition against IS, says the U.S. and its local allies, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, are prepared for a protracted fight for the northern Syrian city. He spoke at a press conference in Baghdad on Wednesday.

    The jihadist group is locked in twin battles for its key strongholds, Raqqa and Mosul. The SDF launched its attack on Raqqa on Tuesday and have already captured a neighborhood on the city’s eastern end. Iraqi forces have been battling IS in Mosul since October.

    McGurk said the fight for Raqqa will be a “difficult and very long-term battle.””

    PHILIPPINE president Rodrigo Duterte has ordered troops to “crush” Islamist extremists occupying part of the southern city of Marawi, despite the militants holding dozens of civilians hostage.

    Hundreds of residents also remain trapped in ISIS-controlled zones of the city – but the president demanded his soldiers “finish this war” started by the jihadis.

    Mr Duterte told reporters: “When I say crush them, you have to destroy everything including lives. Rebellion is no joking matter.

    “I cannot stop my soldiers now – let’s finish this war that Islamic State has started.”

    Since hundreds of ISIS fighters stormed the city, the Philippine military has used precision assaults, backed by aerial and artillery bombardment, to drive the terrorists out.

    But Mr Duterte’s latest order has sparked fears for the lives of up to 500 trapped residents and hostages, including Chito Suganob, a Catholic priest who last week appeared in a Daesh propaganda video appealing for government troops to withdraw from the city.

    Photos taken by rescue teams during a brief truce depict scenes of massive destruction, with dozens of buildings reduced to piled of mangled and burned debris.

    Human bodies have also been photographed burned and rotting in the streets.

    Most of the city’s residents have fled, creating a humanitarian crisis while those trapped in the city rapidly run out of food and water.

    The official death toll stands at 180 – but many more are believed to have been killed.

    More than 100 militants led by Isnilon Hapilon, the man believed to be the leader of ISIS in south-east Asia, are said to be holed in the centre of the city, using tunnels to dodge bombs, hide weapons, and man sniper positions.

    In a house used by ISIS militants as a machine gun post, government troops found £1.2million ($1.6million) in bundled up banknotes and checks.

    Military spokesman Jo-ar Herrera said: “This shows that these local terrorists are well-connected.

    “They have supporters, they have sympathisers and they have links to international terror organisations.””

  15. Pentagon: Beijing Is Arming Its Manmade Islands in South China Sea

    With its reef expansion apparently finishing up, China is working to extend the reach of its military power.

    China is outfitting its manmade island outposts in the South China Sea with warplane hangars and weapons, the Pentagon said Tuesday in its annual assessment of Beijing’s military.

    Once finished, the People’s Liberation Army Air Force intends to base three regiments of warplanes there, says the report, which was “generated” on May 15 and released to the public today.

    “Although its land reclamation and artificial islands do not strengthen China’s territorial claims as a legal matter or create any new territorial sea entitlements, China will be able to use its reclaimed features as persistent civil-military bases to enhance its presence in the South China Sea and improve China’s ability to control the features and nearby maritime space,” the report says.

    • Both sides are positioning their pieces for the coming mess, China is pulling the strings on Crazy Fat Boy KIm and will have him create a situation where he have to take his country out when they are ready for the war. They will try to set on the sidelines but will insist on getting some payment for their inaction, possibly US recognition of Chinese ownership of the artificial islands. and the waters around them. This recognition would give China control over one of the busiest sea ways in the world and lead to their declaring control over who shipped what on that sea way as well has allowing them to charge passage fees.

This is why they are putting in massive anti-air capabilities. although they have the disadvantage of not having a support/protective group of smaller ships to screen them.     SEOUL – South Korea will suspend any further deployment of a controversial U.S. missile defense system until an environmental impact assessment ordered by new President Moon Jae-in is finished, his office said Wednesday.

    Seoul agreed last year under Moon’s ousted predecessor Park Geun-hye to deploy the powerful missile intercept system to guard against threats from nuclear-armed North Korea despite angry opposition from Beijing, which views it as a threat to its own military capabilities.

    Two missile launchers have been deployed in the southern county of Seongju, where hundreds of residents have staged fierce protests over what they see as potential environmental hazards posed by the batteries used in the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system.

    THE space nation of Asgardia is an unbelievably ambitious project, but for now it seems to be going ahead.

    AN ambitious self-proclaimed space nation founded by a Russian billionaire and backed by a consortium of scientists is set to take its first step into the cosmos later this year.

    The public collective which aims to become a space-bound private “country” calls itself Asgardia and was first announced in October by its founder and chief financial backer Igor Ashurbeyli who believes the floating nation can “offer an independent platform free from the constraint of a land-based country’s laws.”

    The idea behind the project is to prompt a discussion about the regulations and laws that underpin space activity and create a demilitarised and freely accessible base of scientific knowledge permanently in orbit.

    In the long term it has much bolder — and somewhat quixotic — plans to create a shield to protect Earth from cosmic threats, such as asteroids, solar flares and space debris.

    A Parisian woman is taking the French state to court for failing to protect her health from the effects of air pollution.

    Clotilde Nonnez, a 56-year-old yoga teacher, says she has lived in the capital for 30 years and seen her health deteriorate.

    However, it became worse than ever when pollution in Paris hit record levels last December.

    Her lawyer says air pollution is causing 48,000 French deaths per year.

    “We are taking the state to task because we think the medical problems that pollution victims suffer are as a result of the authorities’ lack of action in tackling air pollution,” François Lafforgue told Le Monde newspaper.

    More cases would be brought in the coming weeks, in Lyon, Lille and elsewhere, he added.

    Paris has struggled for years to combat high levels of smog and the authorities have introduced fines for any vehicle not carrying a “Crit’Air” emissions category sticker – part of a scheme to promote lower-emitting vehicles.

          • The US has fewer non service positions but through the use of robots we are still producing as much as ever, what we have to do is find a way to get jobs for the people that are productive rather then service and which the unions won’t price out of existence.

            An example of the production is the firearms industry, creating a quality firearm use to be very labor intensive and in the 60s the unions forced the manufactures to eliminate jobs and quality. In the 80s computer aided manufacturing brought the quality back into the firearms but further reduced the need for people in the factory. Finding jobs for the unemployed is one of the major problems we are facing.

    When three Islamic State inspired terrorists attacked London Saturday, they were following a very specific guide provided to them courtesy of ISIS propaganda.

    Khuram Butt, Rachid Redouane, and Youssef Zaghba killed seven people and injured 48 others when they rammed bystanders with a van near London Bridge and then stabbed others with knives in Burough Market. The trio used the exact tactics prescribed to ISIS followers in a guide published in Rumiyah (“Rome”) magazine, a known ISIS propaganda source.

    Rumiyah issue #3, published in November, provided a detailed guide on vehicular terrorist attacks. The ISIS propagandists pointed to an attack in Nice last July as an example, in which Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was able to kill 86 people with a large cargo truck before police eventually killed him.

    “The method of such an attack is that a vehicle is plunged at a high speed into a large congregation of kuffar (unbelievers), smashing their bodies with the vehicle’s strong outer frame, while advancing forward — crushing their heads, torsos, and limbs under the vehicle’s wheels and chassis — and leaving behind a trail of carnage,” said the article.

    TORONTO – A Scarborough woman swore allegiance to ISIS in a Scarborough courtroom where she appeared to face allegations that she swung a golf club at hardware store employees while screaming threats and Islamic chants.

    Before Tuesday’s proceedings started, Justice of the Peace Alice Napier asked Rehab Dughmosh, 32, to identify herself in court — but the accused woman didn’t initially answer the question.

    “ISIS — I pledge to the leader of the believers — Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,” blurted the woman through an interpreter.

    Al-Baghdadi is the leader of the Sunni militant jihadist group known as the Islamic State of Iraq (ISIS) and the Levant.

    Dughmosh, who wore a black niqab and a forest-green prison sweat suit, agreed to “stay in jail,” rather than have a bail hearing at College Park courts Tuesday.

    Dughmosh was remanded in custody and will appear via video at Scarborough Court of Justice on June 21.

    Sources told the Toronto Sun that a woman, wearing an ISIS bandana, allegedly entered Cedarbrae Mall in Scarborough Saturday afternoon and then the Canadian Tire store, where she walked to the paint section.

    She allegedly ranted “Allahu Akbar” — God (Allah) is greater — before swinging a golf club at employees — at the same time of bloody terrorist attacks in London, sources said.

    The woman was restrained by several employees, after she pulled out a large knife from under her clothing, according to police. The knife was pried from her hand and an employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said a police release.

    Dughmosh is facing seven charges including two counts of assault with a weapon, assault, two counts of possession of a weapon, threaten death or bodily harm, and carrying a concealed weapon.

  28. GERMANY – Syrian man kills Red Cross counselor in western Germany

    BERLIN — The German Red Cross says a Syrian man has stabbed one of its psychologists to death at a counseling center for refugees in the western state of Saarland.

    The group says the attack took place Wednesday in the state capital, Saarbruecken.

    German news agency dpa reports the 27-year-old Syrian attacked the Red Cross counselor following an argument. The suspect, who wasn’t identified, was arrested shortly after the attack.

    The 30-year-old psychologist had been working for the Red Cross since 2014 helping people who had experienced trauma begin a new life.

    Syrischer Flüchtling ersticht Berater im Saarland

    Karrien Stevens, who runs Little Diamonds nursery in Hermon Hill in Wanstead, confirmed one of her staff was slashed on her way to work from the High Street this morning.

    The woman was attacked from behind by the trio, who pulled her to the ground and stabbed her in the arm before running off down the street.

    Paramedics rushed to the scene to treat her injuries and the victim was later escorted round the local area to help spot her assailants.

    Unfortunately she was unable to recognise her attackers.

    Ms Stevens told the Ilford Recorder: “It’s scary that something like this can happen right in front of your doorstep.

    “What is going on at the moment out there? It’s ridiculous. I don’t know what these people were hoping to achieve.”

    A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman confirmed Counter Terrorism Command were aware of the incident but were not leading the investigation.

    She said: “We were called at 9.36am to reports of a stabbing in Hermon Hill.

    “Officers responding to the scene discovered a woman in her 30s who had suffered slash wounds. Her injuries are not life threatening but she has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

    “The three suspects fled the scene before police officers arrived and they are still not accounted for.”

    A Redbridge Council spokeswoman told the Ilford Recorder: “Redbridge Council were advised of a reported stabbing in the north of the borough this morning.

    “We informed schools and early years providers of this incident and advised them to take precautions to keep children safe until we could clarify the situation. We have now given them updated information and advice.””

    Judge Stephen Reinhardt couldn’t find a way to legally justify keeping Andres Magana Ortiz in the United States, but he made sure to let the defendants and the public know he was torn up about it. Put in the impossible position of enforcing U.S. immigration law, Reinhardt ruled in favor of the Department of Homeland Security while saving plenty of vitriol of the evil Trump administration in his statement of assent.

    The case before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals – the same court that originally blocked President Trump’s Middle East travel ban – was one where immigration officials wished to deport Magana Ortiz, an illegal immigrant with two DUI convictions. The immigrant, who is married to an American citizen, was asking for the court to block his deportation – a request Reinhardt and his liberal colleagues could not grant.

    “We are unable to prevent Magana Ortiz’s removal, yet it is contrary to the values of this nation and its legal system,” whined Reinhardt. “We are compelled to deny Mr. Magana Ortiz’s request for a stay of removal because we do not have the authority to grant it. We are not, however, compelled to find the government’s action in this case fair or just.”

    Tanveer Ahmed, a cultural Muslim who moved to Australia when he was six, says the national broadcaster’s obsession with perceived Islamophobia was often counterproductive.

    ‘Often the voices they reach for reinforce that because their first instinct is to quell so-called Islamophobia,’ he told Daily Mail Australia on Monday.

    ‘It keeps feeding the message that none of it is their fault, that the West is in fact against them.

    ‘It’s inaccurate and doesn’t get to the source of the problem. It keeps feeding grievance, it keeps feeding this idea of Muslim grievance so in that respect it’s part of the problem.

    ‘Terrorism is, at its heart, a conflation of personal resentments with a political ideology of resentment which Islamism is.’

    Dr Ahmed is a former SBS journalist who has also previously been a member of the federal government’s Australian Multicultural Council.

    The 42-year-old psychiatrist, who has a practice in Sydney’s west and visits prisons, called on the ABC to be wary of airing so-called moderate Muslims who downplayed the link between Islam and terrorism.

    ‘There has been too much promotion of so called moderate voices of Islam who usually turn out be apologists for terrorism, desperate to dilute any link between terrorism and Islam and promoting a message of Muslim victimhood,’ he said.

    ‘They use voice after voice of from various religious Muslims, almost all of whom have identical views, that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism, Muslims are victims of racism and the real problem is racism and white nationalists.’

    In the wake of the United Kingdom’s third terrorist attack in 10 weeks, Dr Ahmed said the mainstream media and politicians also needed to acknowledge terrorists were following the Koran.

    ‘It’s grounded in scripture. People who commit terrorism, they are actually more devout than many other Muslims. Their actions don’t come out of thin air, they’re following strict instructions,’ he said.

    ‘It’s important we don’t tarnish all Muslims but people are just so sick of the platitudes and calls for tolerance, for unity and that Muslims are victims when in fact there’s a great deal of sympathy in a significant proportion of the Muslim community for the justification of terrorism be it blaming Western colonialism, blaming racism, discrimination.

    ‘While terrorism’s origins have many factors, Islamic terrorists, as heinous as their acts are, they are often merely doing what the scriptures are telling them.’

    He called on the ABC to air Adelaide Shia imam Mohammad Tawhidi, who calls for a reform of Islam and for Muslims to integrate into Australian society rather than self-segregate.

    ‘He’s actually very courageous in pointing the truth in Islamic scripture, they’re the kind of voices we need more of,’ he said.

    ‘There needs to be a stronger focus on Islamic reformers who argue against the Koran being the literal, infallible word of God.’

    With the rise of One Nation and far-right groups like Reclaim Australia, which call for a ban on Islamic migration, Dr Ahmed said it was inaccurate to blame far-right political parties for Islamophobia.

    ‘Phobia refers to irrational fear of Muslims. It’s very difficult to suggest a fear of Muslims and terrorism is irrational in the current climate,’ he said.

    ‘The rise of white nationalists comes directly in response to Islamism, not the other way around…”

    “Saudi Arabia has re-arrested women’s rights campaigner Loujain al-Hathloul, who is best known for her defiance of the kingdom’s driving ban.

    Ms al-Hathloul was detained at King Fahad International Airport in Dammam on the country’s east coast near the border with Bahrain on 4 June and is expected to be taken to Riyadh for questioning by the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution.

    She has had no access to a lawyer and has not been allowed to contact her family, Amnesty International reported.

    The exact reason for her arrest has not been made public but Amnesty said they believe it is due to her human rights activism in the country.

    The 27-year-old is most famous for defying the kingdom’s ban on female drivers after attempting to drive into Saudi Arabia from the United Arab Emirates.

    Following the stunt she was arrested and detained by the Saudi authorities for 73 days.

    She then went on to stand as a candidate in the 2015 Saudi election – the first time women were ever allowed to stand – but her name was never added to the ballot paper.

    The woman, aged in her 30s, was walking from Wanstead station to Little Diamonds nursery on Hermon Hill when the attackers came up behind her at just after 9.30am on Wednesday.

    They shoved her to the ground before punching and kicking her during the terrifying attack.

    Karrien Stevens, who runs Little Diamonds nursery on Hermon Hill where the victim works, told the Standard the three attackers were “chanting the Koran”.

    She said: “A staff member was coming to work when three Asian girls came up behind her chanting the Koran.

  39. The Senate has passed a resolution that calls for President Donald Trump to make a drastic break from both his Democratic and Republican predecessors and move the U.S. embassy in Israeli from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

    Last Thursday, Trump followed in the footsteps of his predecessors and signed a waiver that delays the embassy relocation. Trump promised to move the embassy to Jerusalem during the campaign. He said he is delaying the move as he hopes to advance a peace negotiation between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

    The suspect, a Pakistani immigrant to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, is said to be known to the family of the victim, whose father is Pakistani and mother is Russian.

    He is accused of raping the boy and strangling him to death with a rope after picking him up from Ramadan prayers at a mosque.
    Azan Majid Janjua was reported missing last week after failing to come home from the mosque.
    He was later found by air-conditioning technicians on the roof of the building where he lived.
