    “An Afghan official says a bomb planted on a car killed a tribal leader and another civilian in the southern Kandahar province.

    Zia Durani, a spokesman for the provincial police chief, said Wednesday that the attack took place the night before in the Spin Boldak district near the border with Pakistan, killing tribal leader Faizullah Khan. Three others were wounded in the blast.

    Elsewhere in Kandahar province, militants killed a cleric in Kandahar city on Tuesday, and a roadside bomb killed a civilian in Arghandab district.

    No one immediately claimed any of the attacks, but both the Taliban and an increasingly powerful Islamic State affiliate have stepped up their attacks in recent weeks.”

    “Pakistan’s army says authorities have executed four Islamic militants convicted of terrorism by military courts.

    The army says the members of the Pakistani Taliban, an umbrella group of several local militant groups, confessed to their involvement in attacks against civilians, the military and a mosque.

    The executions were carried out early Wednesday.

    Pakistan has executed 432 prisoners since 2014, when it lifted a ban on executions following a Taliban attack that killed 150 people, mostly schoolchildren. Most of those executed were convicted criminals and not militants. Forty of those executed were convicted by military courts.

    Rights groups say the closed-door trials deny due process, raising doubts over their legitimacy. Pakistan’s army says it gives convicted militants the right to appeal.”

    “Police in Myanmar’s main city fired warning shots overnight to break up a confrontation between dozens of Buddhists and Muslims that left at least one person injured.

    It was the latest manifestation of years of rising anti-Muslim sentiment in the predominantly Buddhist nation, where ultra-nationalist Buddhist monks and their supporters forced the closure of two Muslim schools in Yangon last month.

    The confrontation began after midnight Wednesday when Buddhist hard-liners entered a Muslim neighborhood claiming some ethnic Rohingya Muslims were hiding “illegally” in the area, a police officer said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

    Rohingya in Myanmar are largely denied citizenship and basic rights. The majority of them — more than 1 million — live in western Myanmar’s Rakhine state and cannot travel without special permission.

    An Associated Press reporter in Yangon saw around 30 Buddhists on the streets, including monks. Some were armed with stones, as were Muslims who were poised to defend themselves.

    Police fired two warning shots to disperse the crowds. At least one Muslim man was hospitalized with injuries to his head.

    “A top Syrian Kurdish official on Wednesday welcomed the U.S. decision to arm Kurdish fighters with heavier weapons, saying it would “legitimize” the force as it prepares to march on Raqqa, the de facto capital of the Islamic State group.

    But the decision, announced by the Trump administration Tuesday, is sure to rattle Turkey, which considers the Syrian Kurdish group, known as the YPG, to be a terror organization.

    The YPG forms the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces, which has driven the IS group from much of northern Syria with the help of U.S. air support. The U.S. is eager to expel IS from Raqqa and sees the Syrian Kurds, who are among the most effective fighters in the country, as the best placed force for the task.

    Ilham Ahmed, a top official in the Syrian Democratic Forces’ political office, said the decision to provide heavier arms carries “political meaning” and “legitimizes the YPG and the Syrian Democratic Forces.”

    She said the decision is likely to be met with “aggression” from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is to visit Washington next week…”

    “Kashmiri militants kidnapped and shot dead an Indian army officer who was visiting home in the disputed Himalayan region, the Indian military said Wednesday.

    The 23-year-old lieutenant was kidnapped Tuesday night while attending a relative’s wedding in the southern Shopian area, said army spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia. His bullet-riddled body was recovered Wednesday morning, he said.

    Kalia said the officer was unarmed.

    There was no independent confirmation of the incident and no rebel group fighting since 1989 against Indian rule issued any statement.

    Nearly 70,000 people have been killed in the fighting and the ensuing Indian crackdown.

    Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and both claim the territory in its entirety.

    Last week, thousands of Indian government forces cordoned off at least two dozen villages in the Shopian area while they hunted for rebels believed to be hiding in the area. The operation was called off after about 10 hours without finding any rebels.

    India has accused Pakistan of arming and training the rebels, which Pakistan denies. The nuclear-armed nations have fought two wars over their rival claims to the territory.

    Rebel groups have largely been suppressed by Indian forces in recent years. However, public opposition to Indian rule remains deep and is now principally expressed through street protests marked by youths hurling stones at government forces.”

    “Last week, the Swedish government decided to repeal ID checks at the Swedish border after being pressured by the EU. However, the ID controls may soon be back due to a sharp increase in asylum immigration.

    The ID checks, which largely irked both Swedish and Danish commuters in Scandinavia’s most densely-populated Øresund region and were said to have a detrimental effect on both countries’ economy, were abolished for people traveling by train, bus and ferry. The repeal, however, triggered a sharp increase in the number of asylum seekers, which critics had predicted.

    In April, approximately 50 people per day sought asylum in Sweden. On Monday alone, however, 112 asylum seekers were registered, which is more than twice as many. Furthermore, the number was reported to have increased gradually ever since the controls were abandoned. Additionally, an increase in the number of people who were rejected at the Swedish border was also registered. Earlier this year, an average of 40 to 100 people were rejected each week. Last weekend alone, however, 88 people were rejected, the Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan reported.

    As the controls were waived following the alleged stabilization of asylum seekers’ influx, Swedish Infrastructure Minister Anna Johansson emphasized that the government was prepared to reinstate ID controls “should the need arise.”

    North Korea’s ambassador to the UK has told Sky News his country will go ahead with its sixth nuclear test at the time and place of its leader’s choosing.

    In his first interview in the role, ambassador Choe Il said his country would continue its ballistic missile and nuclear programmes in spite of intentional warnings against them, and dismissed UN sanctions as having no legal grounds, and no effect.

    “In regards to the sixth nuclear test, I do not know the scheduled time for it, as I am here in the UK, not in my home country,” Mr Choe said.

    “However, I can say that the nuclear test will be conducted at the place and time as decided by our supreme leader, Kim Jong Un.”

        Genuine freedom simply isn’t in the cards for North Korea. At least, not any time soon. Chinese Communism will have to topple first and—barring exceptional or unforeseen circumstances—that is at least ten years down the road (if not more). The most that North Koreans can realistically hope for is a more benevolent dictator installed by Beijing after they perforate Fat Boy.

        Either way, this over-inflated little psycho has to go and everyone knows it.

        • I can see how it could come quickly but this scenario is very low probability, in fact even 10 years is probably optimistic.

          • The blood bath that would ensue on Seoul is really worth considering. American forces couldn’t possibly stop the opening up of massive NK artillery against Seoul.
            Even if we bombed them to rubble, it wouldn’t be soon enough to prevent the tremendous loss of life in SK.
            I really do think the only way out of this is if the Chinese affect a change of leadership in NK. Will Trump get them to do this? I don’t know.
            What would we have to trade with China to get them to do this?

  28. U.S. decision to arm Syrian Kurds threatens Turkey: foreign minister

    ANKARA (Reuters) – Turkey urged the United States on Wednesday to reverse a decision to arm Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State (IS) in Syria, saying every weapon supplied to the YPG militia constituted “a threat to Turkey”.

    The angry reply came a week before President Tayyip Erdogan is due in Washington for his first meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, who approved the arms supply to support a campaign to retake the Syrian city of Raqqa from Islamic State.

    Turkey views the YPG as the Syrian extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has fought an insurgency in southeast Turkey since 1984 and is considered a terrorist group by the United States, Turkey and Europe.

    Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, speaking while on a visit to Montenegro, said weapons supplied to the YPG had in the past fallen into PKK hands.

    “Both the PKK and YPG are terrorist organizations and they are no different apart from their names,” he told a televised news conference. “Every weapon seized by them is a threat to Turkey.”

  30. ‘Narrative news’: The big gap between the media narrative and what is actually happening

    I don’t manage to listen to the Rush Limbaugh broadcast that much these days, but I did catch it Tuesday morning. And what principally struck me was his point that the media are in charge of running the political left’s game right now.

    The mainstream media are pushing a narrative. But increasingly, there’s nothing behind it, and the actual elected officials – the Democrats – can’t force a non-existent reality. There’s no there there, behind the media hype. That’s why it evaporates in thin air at the end of each day.

    Three “pieces” from the events and the narrative-push of Monday, 8 May, have brought that into focus for me. Two of them center on the testimony to the Senate of James Clapper and Sally Yates. The third is a downright weird article at Daily Beast, about self-appointed citizen “investigators” of the fabled “Trump ties to Russia” – which is one of those topics you pretty much have to encase entirely in scare quotes, because none of it is anything that really, you know, happened.

        Defense contractors would love a war. Oil thugs own massive assets and are tireless in promoting their odious agenda. Race rotters lust for violence because they’re evil and stupid, but their community organizers exploit it to hold us hostage for more free stuff.

        Meanwhile, the media has no real news to report. This 70-year-old Potus works so hard, kinky escapades are highly unlikely. Media bury stories of murder and mayhem, they’re out- of the -loop for substantive policy issues.

        PDJT is running the country without Congress, managing foreign policy himself. He’s not planting stories with friendly outlets – there really aren’t any.

          • The vast majority of the people at the VA say that if the wicked witch had won the coup attempts would have started within a couple of weeks of the inauguration and the civil war would have started the day after the first coup assuming it failed which is unlikely. Either way the US would have never been the same.

    Is the Muslim Brotherhood Operating in America?

    Critics of the campaign to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization argue it will have a damaging impact on Muslim civil rights organizations operating in the United States.

    Several of the leading Muslim civil rights organizations are in fact dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood. As we wrote previously, this does not mean they are necessarily part of a coordinated central command structure, but that’s not the end of the story.

    An excellent investigative piece by Peter Skerry in Foreign Affairs magazine argues despite the lack of a centralized Muslim Brotherhood, “since the 1950s and 1960s, when Muslims began arriving as students at U.S. universities, individual Muslim Brothers and the Brotherhood itself have been critical in the establishment of the country’s various Islamic institutions and organizations. These include virtually all of the major entities representing Muslims in contemporary American politics: the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Muslim Student Association (MSA), the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), the Muslim American Society (MAS), and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).”

    Among the pieces of evidence he cites is the website of the Muslim American Society (MAS) which acknowledges that “many immigrant organizations that were established early on would likely have had some founders who formerly had some involvement or even membership in the Ikhwan [Brotherhood].”

  33. Despite Turkish Threats, Trump Arms Kurds for Showdown Against ISIS

    Unruffled by Turkey’s threats against American forces fighting with the Kurds, U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to supply weapons to the YPG, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units.

    The YPG is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of Kurdish and Arab militias fighting Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) in Iraq and Syria.

    U.S. elite forces are currently working with the SDF, which is also supported by U.S.-led coalition air strikes.

    Turkey views the Kurdish forces as terrorists and a threat to Turkish sovereignty. Turkey previously threatened U.S. troops in areas near Turkey’s border with Syria.

  35. Germany: Migrant jailed for murder and sexual abuse at retirement home

    An asylum seeker was sentenced to seven years and sixth months in prison by an Osnabruck court, Wednesday, after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting two elderly men and attacking an 87-year-old woman who went on to die from her wounds.

    SOT, Katrin Hocherl, spokesperson of the court of Osnabruck (German): “The defendant was accused of having entered a retirement home in Neuenhaus, where he is thought to have sexually assaulted several inhabitants. And then, during the act, as he was surprised by a witness, he is thought to have severely injured this woman, after which she died.”

  36. France: Police storm Paris flat after armed man refuses to go to psychiatric hospital

    Police forces stormed an apartment in Paris, Wednesday, after a man with mental health issues reportedly threatened several law enforcement officers with a handgun as they attempted to escort him to a psychiatric hospital.

    Members of the French National Police’s Brigade for Research and Intervention (BIS) were called to handle the situation at around 10:20 local time (8:20 GMT). The neighbourhood where the apartment is located in Paris’ 15th arrondissement was put on lock down.

    SOT, Stephanie Boisnard, Police Commissioner of 15th arrondissement of Paris (French): “So, this morning at 9 o’clock the police of the 15th borough came to the home of a man, 40, who had to go to a psychiatric hospital, and the police were assisting the hospital, in order to bring him back. And they arrived at his home, and the police were threatened by the man, they were threatened with a handgun, and he retreated back into his apartment. He had been alone in his apartment, from the point of view of his former psychiatrist, and then, with this weapon, the special services came to intervene. They took care, taking this man without hurting him, so for us it was an intervention which is over, a routine intervention.”

    The swamp strikes back against Israel and Trump

    Kris Bauman, the National Security Council’s new point man on Israel, believes that the “Israel Lobby” is a threat, that Israel should be pressured into making concessions to Islamic terrorists and that “the Obama Administration must find creative (but legal) ways to include Hamas in a solution.”

    Yael Lempert, Bauman’s predecessor, had been one of the Obama holdovers that conservatives had fought to pry out of the swamp. Lempert had been described as “Obama’s point person in the White House orchestrating his war against Israel.”

    Lee Smith wrote that, “Lempert, one former Clinton official told me, ‘is considered one of the harshest critics of Israel on the foreign policy far left. From her position on the Obama NSC, she helped manufacture crisis after crisis in a relentless effort to portray Israel negatively.’”

    Lempert’s mother, Lesly Lempert, had been an anti-Israel activist with the misleadingly named American Israeli Civil Liberties Coalition. Yael had carried on her mother’s work. Her departure should have been a victory for conservatives. Instead the swamp was replaced with more swamp.

    Kris Bauman had been part of the failed “peace” efforts in the Obama years working for Hillary ally, General Allen. His views on Israel, the PLO and Hamas were those of the Obama-Kerry team.     A lie conceals the truth. And ugly but hidden truths never have a chance of being acknowledged, addressed, and ameliorated. Because of this simple truism, one of the greatest lies of our age—that violence committed in the name of Islam has nothing to do with Islam—has made an intrinsically weak Islam the scourge of the modern world, with no signs of relief on the horizon.

    It is, therefore, useful to expose the main strategy used by liars in government, media, and academia: 1) to ignore the generic but chronic everyday reports of Muslim violence against non-Muslims around the world; 2) to address only spectacular Muslim violence, which, because it is almost always committed by professional jihadi groups can be portrayed as a finite, temporal, localized problem: defeat that particular “terrorist group” and the problem vanishes.

    By way of example, consider the Islamic targeting of Christian churches. Last month, after two Egyptian churches were bombed, leaving 51 worshippers dead, everyone was quick to point out that something called “ISIS”—which of course “has nothing to do with Islam”—was responsible.

    On Easter Sunday, 2016, more than 3,000 miles away from Egypt, in Pakistan, approximately 70 Christians were killed in a bomb attack, also specifically targeting Easter celebrations. Then we were told that something called “Taliban”—also “nothing to do with Islam”—was responsible.

    In some ways this is more important than anything that the former FBI Director said or didn’t say about Hillary Clinton.

    Comey responded that out of 2,000-plus “violent extremist investigations … about 300 of them are people who came to the United States as refugees.” So 15 percent of the FBI’s terrorism cases are refugees – far more than their share of the immigrant population, let alone the general population.

    And, as Mark Krikorian points out, if we narrow down the proportion to immigration based terrorism, which these days means Islam, the refugee issue sticks out even more.

    The Sea-Watch project, a non-profit that has been rescuing migrants at sea since 2015, accused the Libyan navy in a statement of endangering its crew and the migrants by carrying out an illegal repatriation while the boat was in international waters.

    “I had a scarf, not even a veil. Shirt, sneakers and jeans,” she added.

    According to French law, no person is allowed to vote if they are covering their face with a veil or a mask, as the electoral officials would not be able to identify them. When it comes to headscarves and other religious items, the electoral law does not say they are banned as long as the individual’s face is visible…”

    Former President Barack Obama went to Milan, Italy to talk at the Seeds&Chips Global Food Innovation Summit about climate change and its effect on food production. Mike Opelka was astounded by the $3.2 million pay out for the speech to the liberal politician, who once famously said “At a certain point, I think you’ve made enough money.”

    On today’s “Pure Opelka,” Mike marveled at the hypocrisy of discussing America’s food waste while regularly commanding more than $400,000 a speech. The Milan total is the highest Obama has received so far. It is not clear if his private jet, hotel rooms and 14-car convoy were included in that total.

    The internet, in its infinite wisdom, is instead discussing the former president’s unbuttoned shirt.
