    • “And becomes the royal We”

As America’s Bard was known to say:

Only kings, presidents, editors, and people with tapeworms have the right to use the editorial ‘we.’

As to “Sophie Cook”, he’s clearly gone from flying the bird to being the bird. Soon enough, some metrosexual will be flipping that bird.

  2. Trump confers with Asia allies on North Korea nuclear threat

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday stepped up outreach to allies in Asia to secure their cooperation to pressure North Korea over its nuclear and missile programs.

Trump spoke to the prime ministers of Thailand and Singapore in separate phone calls about the North Korean threat and invited both of them to Washington, U.S. officials said.

“They discussed ways to maintain diplomatic and economic pressure on North Korea,” one U.S. official said of the calls, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Trump’s calls to the two Asian leaders came two days after North Korea test-launched another missile that Washington and Seoul said was unsuccessful but which drew widespread international condemnation.

Trump talked on Saturday night with Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, who was also invited to the White House. Duterte has been criticized by human rights groups for an anti-drug campaign in which more than 8,000 people have died.

A week ago, Trump spoke with the leaders of China and Japan on the North Korea issue.

  4. How the Deplorables broke Washington by electing Donald Trump
    By J.E. Dyer April 30, 2017

There has been a lot of commentary in recent weeks about the atmosphere of freak-out in Washington, D.C. Certainly the mainstream media act as if they’ve gone bat-guano crazy. Steady gal Peggy Noonan has her weekly Report on the Concussed. And if anyone looks concussed, it’s the old-consensus Republicans. There’s “deer in the headlights,” and then there’s “deer illuminated by your headlights, lying on its side in the road breathing fast and shallow because you just hit it.”

Leading Democrats, meanwhile, have entirely stopped making sense. In general, as it’s reported to the audience outside the Beltway, Congress looks like it’s kind of wandering in an irritable fog, not getting much done.

Now, part of that depiction is sheer bias on the part of the MSM, which doesn’t count it as “getting something done” when Congress cooperates with Trump in rolling back regulation. But part of it is the Hill Republicans’ very real failure to repeal Obamacare – and in the last few days, their failure to preserve funding for Trump’s border wall in a continuing resolution on spending.

Some brain food on how Washington works

    • “How the Deplorables broke Washington by electing Donald Trump”

We should be so fortunate. One can only hope that Trump’s election “broke Washington”.

There is little to indicate that any such thing actually has happened.

  5. Norks threaten to turn U.S. nuclear sub into ‘underwater ghost’
By LU Staff April 30, 2017

North Korea threatened Sunday to sink the U.S. nuclear-powered submarine deployed to South Korean waters.

“The moment the USS Michigan tries to budge even a little, it will be doomed to face the miserable fate of becoming an underwater ghost without being able to come to the surface,” North Korea’s major propaganda outlet Uriminzokkiri warned.

The Michigan, a nuclear-powered, guided-missile submarine, arrived Tuesday in the port city of Busan, the same day North Korea celebrated the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army.

A Navy carrier strike group led by the nuclear-powered, Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson is moving to waters off the Korean Peninsula, boosting the U.S. strategic military presence in the area. The Vinson is taking part in joint drills with the South Korean Navy, an intentional show of force in response to recent North Korean provocations.

“The urgent fielding of the nuclear submarine in the waters off the Korean Peninsula, timed to coincide with the deployment of the super aircraft carrier strike group, is intended to further intensify military threats toward our republic,” the North explained.

North Korea warned that “whether it’s a nuclear aircraft carrier or a nuclear submarine, they will be turned into a mass of scrap metal in front of our invincible military power centered on the self-defense nuclear deterrence.”

The North has previously threatened to sink the Vinson.

    • How hilarious is it that the USS Michigan could, just by clearing its launch tubes, render North Korea a glow-in-the-dark parking lot for the next several centuries?

As to sinking the USS Vinson, see above.

    • BREITBART – White House Sources: Reports of Gorka Leaving White House Are ‘Incorrect’

Multiple White House sources confirmed to Breitbart News on Sunday evening that reports earlier on Sunday that Sebastian Gorka, a deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, is somehow leaving the White House are incorrect.
“Incorrect,” one source told Breitbart News when asked about reports from the Washington Examiner and CNN that Gorka was leaving the White House.

A second White House source with direct knowledge of these matters confirmed to Breitbart News that the reports are wrong.

The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Westwood reported on Sunday that Gorka, an ex-Breitbart News national security editor, was leaving the White House for another federal agency.

“Sebastian Gorka, deputy assistant to President Trump, will soon accept a position outside the White House, two sources told the Washington Examiner on Sunday,” Westwood wrote:[…]

[…]It turns out that these sources had inaccurate information. So did “administration officials” who talked anonymously to CNN, which published a similar report.

“Sebastian Gorka, a controversial national security aide in the White House, is expected to leave his job, several administration officials confirm to CNN,” CNN’s Jim Acosta and Eric Bradner wrote on Sunday. “One senior administration official said Gorka is expected to find an opportunity outside the White House soon. Another said it’s possible he would take another job in the administration, but added it’s more likely he will leave altogether. That official said Gorka was simply generating too much controversy for the White House.”

Gorka has been under constant assault from the left, including many media attacks that falsely claimed he has anti-semitic ties. But a BuzzFeed report from Mitch Prothero in Hungary found that Gorka actually has no anti-semitic or Nazi ties, despite scores of inaccurate reports and claims from left-wing organizations that he did.

    • France: Le Pen challenges Macron to reveal chosen PM if elected

French presidential candidate and former National Front president Marine Le Pen called on her rival Emmanuel Macron to reveal the name of his chosen Prime Minister if elected, speaking at a rally in Paris, Monday.

Le Pen stated, “My adversary does not dare to say who he will name [as Prime Minister], probably to not scare the French people” asking “how many outgoing Socialist MPs will be part of his movement?”

SOT, Marine Le Pen, French presidential candidate (French): “With your supporters of ‘France Arise,’ [addressing Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, Le Pen’s Prime Minister if she is elected], you made the choice to bring your support to the patriotic candidacy that I am honoured to carry in this presidential election, so important, so decisive since it will decide on the fate of our country for the next five years but in reality, we know it, far beyond. I wanted, friends and comrades of ‘France Arise’ to express my most profound gratitude for your commitment, which is proof of your courage but also of you sense of duty. At a time where France is invited to make a historical choice, perhaps irredeemable, a choice of civilisation.”

SOT, Marine Le Pen, French presidential candidate (French): “My adversary does not dare to say who he will name [as Prime Minister], probably to not scare the French people, imagine if French people find out that Laurence Parisot [former head of French employers’ union MEDEF] is confirmed. Imagine the electoral disaster that this announcement would entail. I am asking him one more time to tell us the truth, who will be his Prime Minister, how many outgoing Socialist MPs will be part of his movement during the legislative elections?”

French presidential candidate and leader of En Marche! Emmanuel Macron addressed thousands of his supporters at an election rally in Paris, Monday.

He said that France “is now in a deep mutation” and pleaded for his supporters to “convince people and make them vote” on Election Day on May 7. “The 7th of May it will be her or us. The 7th of May, we will have a huge responsibility, the responsibility of a generation.”

SOT, Emmanuel Macron, French presidential candidate and En Marche! leader (French): “Our country is now in a deep mutation. The political landscape that we have known for many years went into pieces in a few hours. The old parties, the ordinary agreements, the machine compromises collapsed. And this deep mutation, we are not suffering it, we wanted it and in a way we made it happen.”

SOT, Emmanuel Macron, French presidential candidate and En Marche! leader (French): “The 7th of May will the time to choose between Le Pen. Don’t boo her, fight her, convince people and make them vote. Make her lose next Sunday. The 7th of May it will be her or us. The 7th of May, we will have a huge responsibility. The responsibility of a generation. The responsibility of rebuilding France and a new republic for everybody, for the optimists as well as for the worried. For the winners and the losers. It is our duty and immense responsibility.”

SOT, Emmanuel Macron, French presidential candidate and En Marche! leader (French): “First, the meaning of our fight is to find our spirit of resistance again. Because you know it like I do, they are here. They are our real enemies, powerful, organised, clever and determined. You cross their paths on the street, in the countryside, or on the web often hidden. As hateful as they are cowards. You know them. [It is] the party of the agents for disaster, the instruments of the worst, the French far-right. It is here.”

  7. Sweden: Nation’s largest Shia mosque severely damaged by fire

The largest Shia mosque in Sweden was destroyed in parts by a fire that took hold on Sunday night, in the northern Stockholm suburb of Jakobsberg.

The first reports of the fire emerged at around 23:00 local time. Security forces and fire fighters surrounded the area which was cordoned off overnight.

Police believe the fire was started intentionally from the outside, with a full investigation launched on Monday.

  8. Germany: Cars torched in Berlin ahead of May Day demonstrations

Judith, visitor to Berlin (German): “At the moment I am visiting Berlin, and straightaway I thought, welcome to Berlin, this is the 1st May. It is a scandal what has happened here and as you can see it is a Mercedes, so a symbol of status for the rich and I simply think that alternative people want to perhaps show that they want a difference and attract attention to that and therefore they burnt the car.”

    • Just on a side note, I wouldn’t quite agree that Mercedes is a symbol for the rich, the rich and the wannabes drive other brands. Mercedes is a symbol for the Dream of the German middle class: have strong work ethics, be a good citizen, etc.

    • The only useful part of this entire clip was the announcer introducing even the slightest rumor that Special Operations teams are training for an interdiction of Kim Jong-Un. Repeated mentions of “radical” indoctrination are a total sham and unworthy of journalistic merit. All future reportage of any value must identify ISIS as being slavishly compliant with Koranic doctrine.

True or not, just the mention of this possible Spec Ops assignment is enough to send shock waves through Pyongyang (and rightfully so). Liquidating Jong-Un even if we have to render him first must remain a top priority.

That said, if Communist China wishes to redeem itself by even a tiny fraction of what’s needed to reverse its almost universally negative influence upon the modern geopolitical landscape, it must be the primary driving force behind neutralizing Fat Boy.

No other demonstration of commitment to world peace can possibly rehabilitate Red China’s utterly besmirched reputation after its having sheltered and encouraged North Korea to proliferate nuclear weapons technology (not to mention high-purity methamphetamine, and counterfeit currency).

There is hell-to-pay and Beijing damn-well knows it. Whatever fallout (radioactive and otherwise) will be headed in their direction and it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of Alpha Hotels (hat tip: Richard).

  9. Al-Qaida leader says group fought alongside US-backed forces (abcnews, May 1, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/al-qaida-leader-group-fought-alongside-us-backed-47125267

“The leader of al-Qaida’ branch in Yemen said that his militants have often fought alongside Yemeni government factions — remarks that could embarrass the U.S.-backed coalition fighting the impoverished Arab country’s Shiite rebels.

Qasim al-Rimi leads the group known as Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, considered by Washington to be the most dangerous offshoot of the global terror network. He succeeded Nasir al-Wuhayshi, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike nearly two years ago.

On the U.S. most-wanted list with a $5 million reward for his capture, al-Rimi has been a top target of U.S. airstrikes, which have soared in the past four months in southern Yemen. He spoke on Sunday to AQAP’s media arm al-Malahem from an undisclosed location in Yemen.

“We fight along all Muslims in Yemen, together with different Islamic groups,” he said, adding that his followers have teamed up with an array of factions — including the ultraconservative Salafis, “the Muslim Brotherhood and also our brothers among the sons of (Sunni) tribes” — against Yemen’s Shiite rebels known as Houthis.

Al-Rimi did not elaborate on what exactly fighting “alongside” meant but al-Qaida has emerged as a de facto ally of the government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and his backers Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates against the Houthis in a grueling civil war that has wreaked devastation, caused widespread hunger and killed more than 10,000 since late 2014.

Over the past decade, the terror group has built up ties of one degree or another with the country’s many tribes — and has often used anger over civilians killed in American airstrikes to gain recruits.

The Muslim Brotherhood and Salafis are some of the key militias on Hadi’s side, and regularly receive funds and weapons from the U.S.-backed Saudi led coalition…”

    • DAILY MAIL – EXCLUSIVE: ‘I swear to Allah, no bra’: Sydney sheikh ‘took sneaky images’ of women at airport and uploaded them to his followers on WhatsApp with lewd and mocking comments

Sheikh Zaid Alsalami is involved with Nabi Akram Islamic Centre in Granville
A phone belonging to the imam from Sydney’s west posted WhatsApp images
They featured body shots of women at the airport along with sleazy comments
The WhatsApp message in his number remarked on the appearance of women
The group messages included ‘no bra’ and ‘everyone was looking at her’
Are you the woman in the pictures?

An Islamic sheikh in Sydney’s west allegedly took invasive pictures of random women at an airport before uploading them to social media with mocking and sleazy comments.
Sheikh Zaid Alsalami, a Shia imam who has previously travelled to Iran for religious instruction, shared an image of a woman in a low-cut top, taken from behind, on WhatsApp.
‘I arrived. This was her. Walahi. No bra,’ he said, using the Arabic term for ‘I swear to Allah’.
However, the sheikh declined to say if he or someone else took the images, even though the WhatsApp messages featured his mobile number.
‘I don’t really know if I took that or not. What’s wrong with someone taking a picture like that? I don’t understand,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.

Sheikh Zaid, from the Nabi Akram Islamic Centre in Granville, then told his followers in the WhatsApp post he needed to hold his prayer beads to control himself.
‘Everyone was looking at her. Probably saying how lucky I was,’ he said.
‘I was holding my misbaha the whole time.’
In another message featuring images of a woman’s legs, Sheikh Zaid described another woman as being ‘mutt-able’.
Muta is the term for a temporary marriage in Islam, which can also mean prostitution.
Sheikh Zaid, is also married with children, which could suggest he is advocating polygamy.

The sheikh’s Facebook page also features bizarre videos instructing young men and girls on how to dress.
In one video posted in 2016, he squeezes the biceps of a man in a tight, pink shirt and touches his chest hair.
‘We look at the colour choice for example, I’m very sure there would have been other types of colours that were available but nowadays we see a lot of our boys wearing feminine colours,’ he said.
‘And we have the big problem of the open-chest syndrome where a person wants to show his masculinity by those hairs.
‘These nice muscles are also shown because of how tight the T-shirt is. And we can’t overlook how he’s wearing some designer underwear, probably some Calvin Klein or Lacoste,’ he later said while lifting the man’s shirt.

“Germany has offered diplomatic help to try to end the war in Yemen, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday as she ended a two-nation Gulf tour taking in the Arab world’s largest economies with a stop in the United Arab Emirates.

Merkel arrived in the seven-state federation following a visit to neighboring Saudi Arabia, where she held talks with King Salman and other senior leaders that touched on regional conflicts as well as women’s inequality and other human rights issues.

She said Berlin is offering diplomatic support aimed at resolving the Yemen conflict and has been in contact with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres about its proposal, according to a transcript of her remarks provided by her office.

“Germany has offered to support this U.N. process with its own diplomatic possibilities,” she was quoted as saying. “That has met with the approval of Saudi Arabia. We will now move ahead with the necessary coordination with the U.N. secretary-general.”…”

“Two Indian soldiers were killed and their bodies mutilated Monday in an ambush by Pakistani soldiers along the highly militarized de facto border that divides the disputed region of Kashmir between the nuclear-armed rivals, the Indian army said. But Pakistan denied any such attack, calling the Indian claims false.

Separately, five police officials and two bank employees were killed when suspected rebels ambushed a bank van in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

Pakistani soldiers fired rockets and mortars at two Indian positions southwest of the Line of Control in the Krishna Ghati sector, the army said in a statement.

It said Pakistani soldiers also ambushed an Indian patrol operating between the two posts and mutilated the bodies of two Indian soldiers.

The statement called the incident an “unprovoked” firing by Pakistani soldiers and said the “unsoldierly act” would be “appropriately responded.”

The Pakistani army denied committing any cease-fire violation along the Line of Control. It said in a statement that Indian allegations of mutilating Indian soldiers’ bodies were also false…”

Senior Assam state police official Mukesh Aggarwal said police have filed a criminal complaint and are trying to identify the members of the mob, but no arrests have been made so far.

The attack took place Sunday in a village in Nagon district , 130 kilometers (80 miles) east of the state capital, Gauhati, when a mob accused the two men of trying to steal cows and began beating them with sticks and rocks.

Police in the district said that by the time they reached the scene the men were already in critical condition, and were declared dead at a hospital…”

“At least three people, including a small child, were killed when Islamic State group militants attacked Taliban insurgents in eastern Nangarhar province, an Afghan official said Monday.

Ataullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, said five additional civilians were wounded in the fighting a day earlier. He said 21 Taliban fighters and seven IS fighters were killed in the gun battle in Chaparhar district.

Khogyani said a 9-year-old girl was killed in crossfire and two other civilians were killed by insurgents.

A statement from IS news agency Aamaq said IS militants launched attacks against the Taliban in Chaparhar in which 14 Taliban were killed, including a group leader, and three others were arrested by their fighters.

Separately, a suicide bomber detonated his vehicle full of explosives near a coalition forces convoy in Nangarhar, said Khogyani. He said no one else was hurt in Monday’s attack, but a vehicle was damaged.

“A court in Azerbaijan has begun considering a government demand to block access to the websites of several independent and opposition news organizations, including the local service of the U.S.-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The news organizations are accused of advocating the violent overthrow of the government and promoting activities of radical religious groups, which they deny.

RFE/RL said in a report that its president considers the government’s move an attempt at “blatant censorship that is intended to intimidate the independent press.”

Cavad Cavadov, a lawyer for opposition newspaper Azadliq, told The Associated Press that none of the evidence presented in court on Monday supported the government’s claims.

The promise was made during a surprise visit by Germany’s Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, Monday. Somali prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire met with Gabriel and thanked Germany for its support.

The U.N. estimates that 5 million people in Somalia need aid, amid warnings of a full-blown famine.

Somalia is one of four countries highlighted by the U.N. secretary-general last month in a $4.4 billion aid appeal to avert catastrophic famine. Other countries named were northeast Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen. All are affected by violent conflict, the U.N. chief said.”

“Somali Islamist militants said they publicly stoned one man to death and shot dead another on Monday after both were accused of raping a girl in central Somalia.

A senior militant spokesman said the group had picked up both men in the town of Beledweyne, where the rape occurred. Both had belonged to pro-government forces, he said, but the government denied that, saying they were “bandits”.

Ahmed Ibrahim, 29, and Yusuf Ali Bajin, 22, admitted at a trial by al Shabaab that they raped the girl, and the judge ordered that one be stoned and another shot dead, the al Shabaab governor of the Hiran region, Sheikh Guled Abu Nabhan, told Reuters.

He said Ibrahim was a clan militia fighter and Bajin a government soldier. That could not be independently verified.

Police Major Abdikadir Farah disputed al Shabaab’s account…”

  17. ‘Profit from hate’: UK govt calls out social media giants for failing to curb extremism (RT, May 1, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/uk/386737-uk-fines-social-media-extremism/

“A damning report by the British Commons Home Affairs Committee has claimed social media companies are failing to protect users from hate speech and illegal content, and also facilitating the profits of extremist groups.

The committee launched an inquiry into hate crimes, hate speech and the rise of extremism online following the murder of Jo Cox MP in the lead-up to the Brexit referendum last June.

Tech giants such as Google, Facebook and YouTube were all interviewed as part of the investigation into online extremism and its proliferation throughout social media.

The paper concluded that the social media companies also profit from failing to protect users effectively.

“There may be some lasting financial implications for Google’s advertising division from this episode,” the committee bluntly states.

The report heavily criticized Google for discrepancies within its own policies and the failure to effectively enforce them.

The report says Google is incredibly efficient at enforcing copyright rules but is bizarrely inept at moderating extremist, hateful or illegal content to anywhere near the same extent, even after the committee itself raised multiple specific examples throughout its investigation.

In addition, the inquiry alleged that Google was directly reaping “substantial profits from hosting dangerous and illegal content.”

“One of the world’s largest companies has profited from hatred and has allowed itself to be a platform from which extremists have generated revenue,” the report stated…”

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/05/01/uber-suspends-driver-australia-islamic-state-bomb-allegation/

“Uber says the ride-hailing company has suspended a driver in Australia while police investigate allegations he told a passenger he led an organization related to the Islamic State movement and planned to blow up Parliament House.

The female passenger said Monday she caught an Uber from downtown Canberra early Sunday.

She said the driver said he planned to blow up a shopping mall as well as Parliament House and told her he was not taking her to her home but to a town south of Canberra.

The woman said she told the driver to pull over at a gas station so she could use a toilet. She called police and two police cars soon arrived.

The driver was not arrested. Police say they are continuing to investigate with security agencies.”

  20. Macron Threatens to Set Calais Migrants Loose on Britain (breitbart, May 1, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/05/01/macron-set-calais-migrants-loose-uk/

“Marine Le Pen’s globalist rival in the French presidential elections, Emmanuel Macron, has promised to rip up border controls in France, potentially opening Britain up to a new wave of illegal migration.

The establishment favourite in the French presidential race asserted that the Le Touquet treaty, under which Britain operates border controls in the migrant hotspot Calais, should be “back on the table.”

In an interview with TF1, the former Rothschild banker said the deal “must be renegotiated, especially the parts that deal with the fate of isolated child migrants.

“There is no easy solution to the migrant crisis. If there was one, it would have been found.”

Downing Street is likely to be concerned by the statement, as Macron had previously sworn to keep the migration agreement in place just two months ago, in talks with Prime Minister Theresa May.

He said, “If there was a simple answer [to Calais’ migrant crisis], it would have been found. I want to put the Touquet treaty back on the table and to renegotiate the agreement.”

A Downing Street spokesman said, “We have always been very clear that protecting and enhancing the shared border between the UK and France at Calais is in both the UK and France’s best interests.”

A conservative spokesman said, “This just shows that we need the strong and stable leadership of Theresa May, and why voters need to give her the best possible hand to negotiate in Europe.”

“We have always been very clear that protecting and enhancing the shared border between the UK and France at Calais is in both the UK and France’s best interests. By contrast, Jeremy Corbyn is not strong enough to keep our borders secure.”

French sociologist and writer Mathieu Bock-Côté has warned that Macron embodies “all that France wants to extricate itself from.”

“Excessive globalism and cultural leftism are in contradiction with the aspirations that seem to come from the depths of the country,” he wrote in Le Figaro.

The frontrunner in the election, Macron has previously declared that Europe has “entered a world of great migrations” inescapable for the continent, and which will only accelerate.”

  21. Jonathan Schanzer:
Russia Risks a Showdown With Israel over Hezbollah in Syria

Back in 1967, Moscow shrugged when Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser closed the Straits of Tiran, cutting shipping routes to the Israeli port of Eilat—Israel’s only one in the Red Sea. Egyptian and Syrian troop movements on the Israeli border — coupled with Nasser’s fiery rhetoric threatening mass slaughter — paved the way for war. All the while, Moscow fed the Egyptians and Syrians erroneous information about Israeli troop movements.

The Israelis put an end to all of it with a blitzkrieg that neutralized Russia’s Arab clients in six days, and in the process seized the West Bank, Gaza, Sinai, and much of the Golan Heights.

Fifty years later and history looks set to repeat itself. Russia’s allies are again provoking the Israelis, who may ultimately see little choice but to strike first. The ensuing war, Israel warns, could, like the Six Day War in 1967, fundamentally change the region.

The theater this time is Syria, but the precipitating factor for the next conflict — believe it or not — isn’t Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons against his own people. It is Iran’s most lethal proxy, Hezbollah.

    • Not that I agree with her take on everything, but with Erdoff going full-Turk, we’ve really got to keep our eyes open.
By the way, that’s why you see so many American flags draped over tanks in Syrian Kurdistan.

There. I said it: Syrian Kurdistan.

  22. POLL: ARAB CITIZENS THINK HIGHER OF ISRAEL THAN ITS JEWISH CITIZENS DO

On the collective level, some 47.5% of the population said that Israel’s situation today is either “very good” or “good,” with only 15% saying “bad” or “very bad,” and another 40% saying “okay.” The rest either did not know or did not reply.

What is interesting, and perhaps even counterintuitive, is that the percentage of Arabs who said that the country is in good or very good shape was significantly higher than the Jewish respondents who said so. Among Arabs, fully 66% said that Israel’s situation is either “good” or “very good,” and some 12% gave the country a “bad” or “very bad” grade.

  23. Bulgaria: Nationalists march against refugees and minorities in Sofia

Around 100 nationalists from the National Resistance movement, marched against minorities and refugees on the streets of Sofia on Monday. The march took place under the motto “Bulgaria for the Bulgarians; Social parasites out!”

The protesters exhibited numerous national flags and symbols while marching through the capital, before reaching a small church, where one protester – Blagovest Asenov – held a speech.

SOT, Blagovest Asenov, Member of National Resistance organisation (Bulgarian): “Our people is in a demographic crisis. But it’s not the main problem. The main problem is that we have become used to that with resignation.”

SOT, Blagovest Asenov, Member of National Resistance organisation (Bulgarian): “We see everywhere the symptoms of our population dying. You can always recognise a fruit tree by its fruits – and the fruits of modern democracy is the downfall of Bulgaria.”

  24. CNN – The FBI translator who went rogue and married an ISIS terrorist

An FBI translator with a top-secret security clearance traveled to Syria in 2014 and married a key ISIS operative she had been assigned to investigate, CNN has learned.

The rogue employee, Daniela Greene, lied to the FBI about where she was going and warned her new husband he was under investigation, according to federal court records.

Greene’s saga, which has never been publicized, exposes an embarrassing breach of national security at the FBI—an agency that has made its mission rooting out ISIS sympathizers across the country.

It also raises questions about whether Greene received favorable treatment from Justice Department prosecutors who charged her with a relatively minor offense, then asked a judge to give her a reduced sentence in exchange for her cooperation, the details of which remain shrouded in court-ordered secrecy.

  25. Socialist-Run Venezuela Descends Into Chaos
Massive anti-government protests reach a tipping point.
    May 1, 2017
    David Paulin

It wasn’t supposed to turn out this way. Venezuela was going to be a workers’ paradise. President Hugo Chávez said so and declared early into his first term, in 1999, that Venezuela and Cuba would sail toward the same “sea of happiness.” Not surprisingly, Venezuela is now a workers’ hell. Authoritarian and dysfunctional, the oil-rich yet impoverished South American nation of 31 million people suffers dire food shortages; soaring levels of violent crime (28,479 deaths reported last year); and epic levels of corruption and drug trafficking. Unemployment is soaring – not surprising given that large swaths of the economy have been nationalized. Venezuela’s court-ordered seizure of a General Motors plant is the latest such calamity.

Now Venezuelans are venting their anger like never before, and this includes protesters who were once the bedrock of Chávez’s political base – the poor. In recent weeks, tens of thousands of Venezuelans have staged massive anti-government protests that turned streets and highways into seas of humanity. Security forces and armed pro-government militias – Chavista enforcers riding motorcycles — have met the protesters with force: rubber bullets, tear gas, and deadly gunfire. More than 30 people have died and hundreds injured and arrested. Protesters are demanding fresh elections and the restoration of an independent parliament. Human rights watchdogs and neighboring countries are voicing concern over the unfolding crisis.

  26. CNN’s Islamist Offers Christophobia, Judeophobia and Hinduphobia
CNN is ready to offend every non-Muslim religion on earth.
    May 1, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

Reza Aslan has built a career complaining about Islamophobia. Throw a dart at a map of colleges and the odds were good that Aslan would be speaking at one of them about the rising threat of Islamophobia.

Earlier this year, Aslan, an Iranian Muslim, announced that he was going to change people’s minds about Islam and make them more tolerant, “through pop culture, through film and television.“

“Stories have the power to break through the walls that separate us into different ethnicities,” Aslan rhapsodized, “different cultures, different nationalities, different races, different religions.”

CNN gave Aslan a forum. Nearly every episode of “The Believer” that aired has made some religion that isn’t Islam look freaky, unpleasant and threatening. Instead of breaking through the walls, it has surveyed different non-Islamic religions only to sneer at them as strange and weird.

Instead of Islamophobia, it offers Non-Islam-ophobia.

    • When we are forced to take out NORK and end up having to leave a lot of US Forces in that region what are Turkey and Iran going to do? Are they going to set quietly by and do nothing? Not likely. Will Iran order their infiltrators in the US to start attacking internal targets? Will Turkey push their proxies in Europe to start an open rebellion? What will either or both order their proxies in South America to start taking over the failed and failing states in South America?

      • What is the downside to just capping Erdogan’s @ss?

With “allies” like this, who needs enemies?

By obstructing America’s pincer attack on Iraq—thereby allowing relocation of Saddam’s chemical weapons into Syria—Turkey proved itself a totally unreliable “ally”. Its further depredations upon (or benign neglect of) Christian, Kurdish and Yazidi religious minorities is more than enough proof of how badly—like any fine Turkey—Erdogan needs to get stuffed.

        • You got my vote, it can’t create anymore turmoil and would probably do a lot of good if we followed up with support of Kurdistan and started protecting the Christians and other minorities.

    • Notice how a vast majority of these splendid creatures are some variety of German Shepherd?

That’s because, almost single-handedly, Oberleutnant (First Lieutenant) Max Emil Friedrich von Stephanitz assured the emergence of this noble canine breed. These magnificent animals were strictly bred for versatility, period.

Symmetrical markings, coat length, and color all were secondary considerations to general ability. Be it tracking, herding, guarding, hunting, hauling, or retrieval, the GSD (German Shepherd Dog) excelled at ALL of these tasks.

As a teenager, I had the pleasure to know Juno, who was related five different ways to Rin Tin Tin. Her gentle demeanor and uncanny savvy were a delight to behold. Years later, I made the acquaintance of a professional trainer for the GSD. His own animal was trained in three, yes three different languages (English, German & French).

As an example or two, you could toss an object to be fetched … and this magnificent animal would not move an inch. Only when instructed to retrieve would it go and fetch the object. Upon returning to you, he would seat himself and calmly await your command to release the object (typically into the instructor’s hand).

Brought to heel (aside your right leg), if you strode away from him starting with your left foot, he would stay put until beckoned. Only if you led with your right foot would he stay at heel right behind you.

At the time, I found this creature disturbingly robotic. Only after I had trained my first dog to sneeze and smile on command did I begin to sincerely appreciate the level of training involved. My first dog eventually mastered over 60 (yes, sixty) commands. I could place my hand in his forepaws and give him the command to, “eat it”. This is what I used to make sure he would eat at specific times during car voyages or backpacking trips.

Given the command, he would proceed to grasp my hand and very gently pretend to nibble at my fingernails, knowing not to break any flesh or give me even the slightest manicure. More often than not, he learned all of these tricks without any food rewards.

He was also trained to a snap of the fingers. When running around, a single snap would bring him to heel. Another snap would make him sit. Yet another snap would make him lie down, and a final snap would see him place his chin on the floor. The command of, “chin down”, also got the same final result.

      See: German Shepherd Dog

Few people have a complete understanding of the dedication, loyalty, and supreme sacrifice that these beautiful beasts will unhesitatingly give their loving owners,

And, yes, I say “owners” (not [vomit] “pet guardians”). I have always “owned” my animals, just as they have owned my heart. I miss each of them to this very day.

        • “Equal amounts of yellow Labradors in the video.”

          Ummmm … no. Count them:

          GSD = 13 K9s shown

          YLD = 3 K9s shown

One main reason for this is that the GSD has one of the greatest jaw strengths of any breed, as in snapping your forearm bones like twigs.

  27. French Elections: Emmanuel Macron, a Disaster

    by Guy Millière
    May 1, 2017 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/10299/macron-france-disaster

Paris, Champs Elysees, April 20, 8:50 pm. An Islamic terrorist shoots at a police van. One policeman is killed, another is seriously wounded.

The terrorist tries to escape and shoots again. The policemen kill him. One hour later, the French Ministry of Interior reveals his name and his past. His name is Karim Cheurfi. He is a French Muslim born in an Islamized suburb of France. In 2003, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison for the attempted murder of two policemen. He was released before the end of his sentence. In 2014, he targeted a policeman and was sentenced again. And released again. In March, the police were informed that he was trying to buy military-grade weapons and that he contacted a member of the Islamic State in Syria. An inspector discovered that he had posted messages on jihadist social media networks expressing his willingness to murder policemen. The police searched his home and found several weapons and a GoPro video camera similar to the one terrorists use to film their crimes. The police and members of the French justice system did not think they had sufficient evidence place him under surveillance.

The Champs Elysées attack clearly shows that the French justice system is lax regarding dangerous people and that the French police pay only limited attention to suspects who are communicate with terrorist organizations and who seem to be hatching terrorist projects.

This terrorist attack summarizes everything that is broken in terms of security in France today.

  28. A report from Mediaite published Friday says that “an alternative conservative network is being actively discussed amongst conservative fat cats” due to concerns over the ideological drift of Fox News.

According to the report, a source close to the matter told the liberal-leaning Mediaite that “serious discussions are underway to create an alternative conservative cable network on the belief that the Fox News Channel is moving too far to the left.”

“The source, who is engaged in the talks, says a meeting is planned for today with two prominent high-powered television executives, some underperforming conservative networks and people who have an interest and the ability to fund a new network,” it continued.
