A Jesuit’s Reflection on Islam
In ten days, on Friday, April 28, Pope Francis will land in an Egypt still shaken by the massacres of Palm Sunday, carried out by Muslims in two Christian churches packed with faithful.
But the mantra of the Vatican authorities, starting with the pope, continues to be that “Islam is a religion of peace.” Absolutely forbidden to speak of a “war of religion” or “Islamic terrorism.”
“La Civiltà Cattolica” had tried once, in a 2014 editorial signed by Fr. Luciano Larivera, to let itself be overtaken by the reality and to write concerning the most warlike wing of the Muslim world:
“Its is a war of religion and of annihilation. It exploits power for the sake of religion, and not the other way around.”
But Fr. Antonio Spadaro stepped in immediately to disown this simple truth that had inadvertently appeared in the magazine he edits.
But in the run-up to Francis’s journey to Cairo it has emerged once again, developed in depth, this time in “L’Osservatore Romano” and once again by a Jesuit.
His name is Henri Boulad. He is 86 years old and was born in Alexandria, Egypt to a Syrian family of the Melkite rite that escaped the anti-Christian massacres of 1860. He lives in Cairo, and the following is part of the interview that he gave to the newspaper of the Holy See dated April 13, Holy Thursday.

Last week Trump supporters and leftist social justice warriors met on the political field of battle in Berkeley, California. Words were exchanged, as were punches. And while the alt-right leader was punched in the face, by all accounts even the social justice warriors admit that they got a major beat-down.
This prompted a reddit discussion among the left’s tolerant resistance movement, with many asking how they can more effectively go to war anyone who disagrees with their social, political, and economic views.
The anti-Trump protesters at the rally were ill-prepared for what they came to Berkeley to confront and now they are trying to figure out ways to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
In short, as predicted, they are turning to militancy and mob action by mobilizing individuals and groups to attend combat training seminars, acquiring better equipment like baseball bats and helmets, and of course, if things really go bad… guns.

Trump Mulls U.S. Military Options for North Korea, All Grim
Three weeks before becoming president, Donald Trump weighed in on the threat of North Korea developing a nuclear warhead capable of reaching the U.S.: “It won’t happen,” he vowed on Twitter.
Now planners are contemplating what a U.S. strike to prevent that development might look like, and the options are grim.

Yes they do, a war will reduce their surplus population and bring in sexual ratio closer to normal. The problem with using this method is that wars can spin out of control and if China is seen to be losing other nations may decide to jump into the fray. China has controlled a large amount of land they stole from India in 1960s when they conquered Tibet. As a what if situation what if India decides they can take back that land and also take Tibet from China? What If China is losing and Russia decides to seize a large chunk of land bordering Russia?
China has to keep these and other what if scenarios in mind before they start a war in Korea. It is unlikely either India or Russia would make that move but you never know.
Venezuela braces for ‘mother of all protests’
Caracas (AFP) – Venezuela braced for rival demonstrations Wednesday for and against President Nicolas Maduro, whose push to tighten his grip on power has triggered waves of deadly unrest that have escalated the country’s political and economic crisis.
Maduro’s opponents are vowing to stage the “mother of all protests” calling for his ouster, after two weeks of violent demonstrations that have left five people dead and dozens wounded.
Sowing fears of more violence, Maduro has in turn urged his supporters, along with the military and civilian militias, to defend the leftist “revolution” launched by his predecessor Hugo Chavez in 1999.
It is set to be the biggest day of protests since Maduro’s allies tried to strip the power of the opposition-controlled legislature — the only lever of government Maduro’s camp does not hold — and banned opposition leader Henrique Capriles from politics.
The streets of Caracas have seen running battles pitting masked protesters hurling stones and Molotov cocktails against riot police firing tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons.
The protests have been relatively small so far, with turnout in the thousands.
But the opposition is now hoping to flood the streets with protesters, whom they are urging to remain peaceful.

Forget about spies. It’s rogue insiders that cause heartburn at U.S. intelligence agencies these days.
Few spy cases have broken in the past decade and a half. In contrast, a proliferation of U.S. intelligence and military insiders have gone rogue and spilled secrets to journalists or WikiLeaks, the anti-secrecy group.
The leaks are as damaging as any major spy case, perhaps more so. And they have underscored the ease of stealing secrets in the modern age, sometimes with a single stroke of a keyboard.
Since early March, WikiLeaks has published part of a trove of documents purportedly created by cyber units of the Central Intelligence Agency. WikiLeaks continues to upload the documents and hacking tools, dubbed Vault 7, to the internet for all to see.
For its part, a mysterious group that calls itself the Shadow Brokers has re-emerged and dumped a large catalog of stolen National Security Agency hacking tools on the internet, including evidence the agency had penetrated Middle Eastern banking networks.

CA congressman’s townhall audience worse-behaved than high school kids – says student

(R-Richvale) endured a noisy, unproductive townhall on Monday night, as attendees shouted over him and prevented him from answering questions for more than two hours at the event in Oroville.
The townhall “bust” wasn’t about the tottering dam nearby, or at least not much. It wasn’t because of the dam that people at the townhall were worked up.
From all appearances, it was because a group of attendees was simply determined to keep LaMalfa from connecting with his constituents and getting anything done. Answer questions? They wouldn’t let him finish sentences. They just shouted slogans and rhetorical questions at him. Eventually, after trying for a couple of hours to actually give answers and engage in dialogue, LaMalfa gave up and left.
Judging by their tactics and little pre-printed signs – red signs reading “DISAGREE” and green signs reading “AGREE” – the unruly shouters were activists with the area’s “Indivisible” group, Indivisible Women.
Back in February, we at LU had some of the first reporting on Indivisible, a heavily Soros-funded network promoting anti-Trump activism – a “resistance” – through everything from “direct action” tactics to new media, social media, and public broadcast programming. Their methods haven’t changed in the two months since. What I wrote about their appearance at townhall meetings in February could have been written about the LaMalfa townhall Monday night:

Defund PBS. Stop hiding a radical, pro-jihad agenda behind Big Bird

Predictably, when President Trump came out in March with a budget proposal that would eliminate federal funds for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, defenders of the CPB manned the barricades for Big Bird, the beloved Sesame Street character.
Sesame Street, of course, is one of the longest-running shows on PBS, a subsidiary of the CPB. Whenever defunding the CPB comes up for discussion, Big Bird is rolled out and depicted as being on the chopping block. Politico noted in March that the same thing happened in 2012, when Mitt Romney spoke publicly of eliminating funds for the CPB.
Politico was pretty complacent about Big Bird’s future, however:

Radio-Canada says Mohamed-Amine Ben-Faras, 33, arrived in Quebec last week on flight from London
He is accused of threatening to kill or injure Alexandre Bissonnette and members of his family.

A crowd of around 200 illegal migrants from Africa stormed Alfortville town hall on Tuesday morning, demanding the government relax criteria for regularisation and give them residence papers.
Illegal migrants occupied the town hall for about an hour, frightening members of the public in the building as well as staff who had to retreat to their offices.
The migrants, who work at Rungis International Market, the world’s largest wholesale food market, began piling into the town hall at around 8.30 am, but staff didn’t notice their arrival until it was “too late”, according to Le Parisien.[…]

Russia: Brother of suspected St. Petersburg attack organiser detained
Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained the elder brother of a suspected organiser of the St Petersburg metro attack in Moscow on Wednesday.
FSB detained the Abror Azimov’s brother, Akram Azimov, at a bus stop in Moscow. At the time of the arrest, he appeared to be carrying a hand grenade RGD-5, the FSB reported.
Kyrgyzstan: ‘I don’t believe it’ – Mother of suspected St. Peter attack organisers speaks out
Vazira Mirzakhmedova, the mother of two of the detained alleged St. Petersburg attack organisers – the brothers Abror and Akram Azimov – said that she couldn’t believe her sons were responsible for the attack, speaking from her home in Jalal-Abad on Wednesday.
Mirzakhmedova said that her children had always been “very polite to each other,” and added: “I’m a mother, any mother probably wouldn’t believe such things, and I don’t believe it.”
Abror Azimov, 27, was detained by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) on April 17; his elder brother Akram was detained in Moscow the next day. Both of them are suspected of communicating with international militant organisations and of assisting the attackers through providing money transfers.
In total, ten people have been arrested in connection with the attack.

reuters – U.S. says Iran complies with nuke deal but orders review on lifting sanctions
The Trump administration said on Tuesday it was launching an inter-agency review of whether the lifting of sanctions against Iran was in the United States’ national security interests, while acknowledging that Tehran was complying with a deal to rein in its nuclear program.
In a letter to U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, the top Republican in Congress, on Tuesday U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Iran remained compliant with the 2015 deal, but said there were concerns about its role as a state sponsor of terrorism.
Under the deal, the State Department must notify Congress every 90 days on Iran’s compliance under the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). It is the first such notification under U.S. President Donald Trump.
“The U.S. Department of State certified to U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan today that Iran is compliant through April 18 with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” Tillerson said in a statement.
“President Donald J. Trump has directed a National Security Council-led interagency review of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that will evaluate whether suspension of sanctions related to Iran pursuant to the JCPOA is vital to the national security interests of the United States,” Tillerson added.
He did not say how long the review would take but said in the letter to Ryan that the administration looked forward to working with Congress on the issue.
During his presidential campaign, Trump called the agreement “the worst deal ever negotiated,” raising questions over whether he would rip up the agreement once he took office.
The historic deal between Iran and six major powers restricts Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international oil and financial sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Iran denies ever having considered developing atomic weapons although nuclear experts have warned that any U.S. violation of the nuclear deal would allow Iran also to pull back from its commitments to curb nuclear development.
Those commitments include reducing the number of its centrifuges by two-thirds, capping its level of uranium enrichment well below the level needed for bomb-grade material, reducing its enriched uranium stockpile from around 10,000 kg to 300 kg for 15 years, and submitting to international inspections to verify its compliance.
Last month Trump’s Defense Secretary James Mattis said Iran continued to behave as an exporter of terrorism and still sponsors militant activity.

NBCNEWS – Trump Administration Orders Review of Iran Nuclear Deal Sanctions: Tillerson
The Trump administration is weighing whether to effectively break the terms of a landmark 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said late Tuesday.
While campaigning for president, Donald Trump repeatedly called the agreement “the worst deal ever negotiated.” Contradictory statements as to whether Trump would scrap it entirely or simply vigilantly enforce it raised questions about how he would proceed once in office.
Tillerson notified Congress that despite finding that Iran is in compliance with the agreement, the White House is looking at whether the U.S. should break with the deal because of Iran’s continued support of terrorism.
In a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, the secretary of state said that “Iran remains a leading state sponsor of terror through many platforms and methods.”
The six powers that negotiated the deal which went into effect in January 2016 — the U.S., China, Russia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, with involvement from the European Union — set aside Iran’s alleged support for terrorism in order to get a deal guaranteeing that Iran would not be able to build a nuclear weapon for a decade and would remain under the eye of U.N. inspectors.
Although billions of dollars of Iran’s assets were unfrozen as a result of the negotiations, U.S. sanctions against Iran because of their support of terrorism were not considered to be part of the agreement.
The certification of Iran’s compliance, which must be sent to Congress every 90 days, is the first issued by the Trump administration. The deadline for the certification was midnight.
The review specifically looks at whether sanctions relief granted Iran through the deal is in the U.S. national interest. Trump would work with Congress once the inter-agency review is complete, Tillerson said.
At the time the deal was reached, Trump called the Iran deal “terrible” and said it would “lead to nuclear Holocaust.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticized the deal. He said in July of 2015 that “Iran is going to receive a sure path to nuclear weapons.”
Former president Obama has said the deal will make the world safer and more secure.
“Iran will not get its hands on a nuclear bomb,” he said in January of 2016 after the deal was implemented.
At the time, Obama said that Iran’s current uranium stockpile is 2 percent of what it was before the agreement, and the country has removed two-thirds of its centrifuges.
After the International Atomic Energy Agency verified in January of 2016 that Iran was in compliance with terms to scale back its nuclear program, some international sanctions were lifted.
The sanctions drastically reduced crude oil exports from Iran. Since the sanctions have been lifted, oil exports from Iran to India have surged, Reuters reported in February.
Iran was exempted from an OPEC deal to reduce output by 1.2 million barrels per day starting Jan. 1, a victory for Tehran which argued it needs to regain the market share it lost during sanctions.

“Footage has emerged online showing a man setting himself on fire outside a courthouse in the Belgian town of Kortrijk. The man earlier reportedly left a social media post saying he was “tired of racism,” while police have called the incident an “act of despair.”
The man, identified as a 38-year-old of Moroccan descent, left the courthouse on Tuesday and moments later returned with a canister of gasoline to a square right in front of the building, some 15 meters from the entrance, a police statement said.
As seen in the video, he then spilled some gasoline and lit it, before pouring some more on his jacket and setting it on fire. He then instantly ran towards police officers and firefighters who were already at the scene.
Local media reported that the man was taken to hospital in critical condition after receiving severe burns over 35 percent of his body.
Although police didn’t disclose the man’s name, Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad referred to him as Chafik H.
Posts on social media from locals expressing their sympathy also suggested the man’s name is Chafik Hanchi.
Police said they are still looking into the motive behind the desperate move, although the man had reportedly been facing difficulties in his personal life.
Jamal Qnioun, the head of the People Help People organization and a member of Council for Intercultural Coexistence in Kortrijk, shared a video on Facebook purportedly featuring Chafik in a car.
He apparently sent the video to Qnioun some hours before the incident, texting him in a separate message about his intentions, saying he could not carry on living.
Chafik reportedly had been going through a difficult patch, seeing his father recently pass away and experiencing financial troubles, as Qnioun described in the post.
In addition, one of the two Facebook accounts which allegedly belong to Chafik has a video posted on Monday, the day before the self-immolation.
The video title on Kapsalon Chafik’s (Hairdresser Chafik) profile says he faced a problem with the national social security office, adding that he was “tired with racism.”
After the local media broke the story, Qnioun, replying to multiple comments left under the respective post, wrote that Chafik had opened a hair salon that was later closed, as an inspection found an unregistered worker. Having paid the fines, Chafik again started his business and opened a new salon in the same street. However, days later he faced another inspection.
Qnioun went on to express his concern over the “harsh conditions” migrants endure in Kortrijk.”

An MSNBC pundit invited ISIS to bomb Trump Tower Istanbul, a skyscraper owned by President Donald Trump in Turkey.
Malcolm Nance, who serves as a “counterterrorism analyst” on a variety of MSNBC shows, retweeted a picture of the seven-year-old Trump Tower Istanbul—adding his own caption: “This is my nominee for first ISIS suicide bombing of a Trump property.”
Another Twitter user soon responded, quite prophetically, with a warning for Nance: “Be careful. It sounds like you’re encouraging it. [The media will] jump all over that.”
After receiving immediate blowback, Nance deleted the idiotic tweet—but not before it was screenshotted and spread across the internet.
Ironically, during the 2016 election, Nance was one of the loudest voices on the left calling President Trump out for inflammatory rhetoric about Middle Eastern refugees Islamic radicalism, which Nance claimed helped ISIS.
“We have already seen ISIS use Donald Trump in their propaganda, directly,” Nance said, in an appearance on MSNBC’s “Hardball” in July 2016. “I mean, I will go so far as to say Donald Trump is the ISIS candidate… They want someone to go off into space, and inflame the other 1.6 billion Muslims, so that they can come off the fence and join ISIS and other groups. He is really, really speaking off the hip.”

Lib Lawmaker Wants Former Presidents to Decide Fitness of Current President

An Oregon Democrat has introduced a bill to the House that would allow former presidents and vice presidents to help decide whether to remove a president because of mental incapacity, The Hill reported.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Earl Blumenauer during the lower chamber’s two-week April recess, was rather unsubtly aimed at President Donald Trump.
“It is hard to imagine a better group to work with the vice president to examine whether the president is able to discharge the duties of the office,” Blumenauer said in a statement. “When there are questions about the president’s ability to fulfill his or her constitutional responsibilities, it is in the country’s best interest to have a mechanism in place that works effectively.”….
….“Because the cabinet can be fired by the president, there is a natural bias that would make them reluctant to acknowledge the president’s inability to serve. It’s time to revisit and strengthen the Amendment and make sure there is a reliable mechanism in place if the president becomes unable to discharge the powers and duties of office,” Blumenauer said.
In other words, Blumenauer would rather have Donald Trump’s ability to remain in office decided by a panel that includes Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, Joe Biden, Walter Mondale, and two members of the Bush family (a clan not known for its warm relations with the Trump team), instead of the constitutionally mandated process by which the cabinet and vice president make that decision, even though the current process has never caused even a hint of a problem for the nation.

Acts of violence and physical intimidation aimed at conservatives on American campuses are growing – and college administrators, who sympathize with the progressive fascist lynch mobs doing the misdeeds, are generally fine with the mayhem.
Although universities and colleges are supposed to be places where ideas are exchanged and challenged, they are easily the most reactionary institutions in modern American society. Confronting the established wisdom there is a career-ender. Free speech exists in theory but only within the narrowest of prescribed limits. Speakers who violate the politically correct canon are shouted down, demonized, and assaulted. Truly new ideas are anathema in the academy, at least in the humanities and social sciences.
Question identity politics, the cult of multiculturalism, or the evil inherent in white people and America, and your life in academia will be over before it begins.
“The cultural Marxism ideology that created identity politics in the first place now permeates the university far beyond the classroom,” opines Bruce Thornton, “and enables an intolerance for competing ideas, not to mention shutting down the ‘free play of the mind on all subjects’ that [English cultural critic] Matthew Arnold identified as the core mission of liberal education.”

The 51.4 percent of the Turkish voters that voted ‘yes’ for the proposed constitutional amendments in Sunday’s referendum have changed Turkey from a secular democracy to a quasi-dictatorship dominated by one man, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an.
The 18 amendments confer wide-sweeping powers on the president, and include the right to appoint ministers and high-ranking state officials, to issue decrees and also to dissolve parliament and call elections. He is also empowered to declare a state of emergency, which has enabled Erdo?an to govern by decree since the abortive coup last July. The state of emergency will be extended again for another three months on Thursday.
Erdo?an is now allowed to be leader of the governing political party, which in effect will give him dominance over parliament. Parliament’s role will, for the most part, be reduced to that of a rubber stamp. The post of prime minister will be abolished, members of the cabinet will be accountable to the president, not parliament, only written questions can be addressed to vice-presidents and ministers and a vote of confidence will not be allowed. The president will also be able to prepare the state budget.
The judiciary will be under the president’s thumb. The president can appoint six of the 13 members of the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK), which regulates the legal profession, and parliament will appoint the other seven. Three judges from the Constitutional Court will be appointed by parliament and the remaining 12 by the president.

If you prize clarity, then these past weeks were some of the best in memory.
1. When America leads, the world is better.
For the first time in eight years, the allies of America and the world’s decent people celebrated America’s return to leadership. Just about all of them understand that if the United States doesn’t exercise its power, the worst regimes on Earth will.
The left claims to care about the downtrodden of the world, but this concern is a moral fraud. The downtrodden the left most care about are American blacks, women and gays. And Palestinians. But these groups aren’t downtrodden; they are merely a vehicle by which the left attacks America and Israel to gain power. The truly downtrodden — that is, the most oppressed people in the world, such as Christians living in the Middle East, and the victims of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s tyranny — know who really cares about them: Trump and America’s conservatives.
2. The terrible presidency of Barack Obama is beginning to be acknowledged.
Following President Trump’s order to attack Syria about 63 hours after the Syrian regime seemingly used chemical weapons, even many in the mainstream media couldn’t help but contrast his prompt response with Obama’s nonresponse to Assad’s use of chemical weapons in 2013. And almost every report further noted that Obama failed to do anything after having promised that he would regard the use of chemical weapons by Assad as crossing a “red line.”

Al-Naggar has been heavily criticized for his inadequate answers to many of the students’ questions, who claimed that his answers were those of “a fanatic sheikh” more than a science professor.
