1, North Korea broadcasts new numbers that appear to be a book code.

(The article explains how this is a new set of instructions sent out to North Korean operatives that operate in South Korea. The code appears to be the ancient, and basically unbreakable book code, where everyone has a copy of, or access to an agreed upon book and page and word numbers are given that when put together form a sentence or idea. North Korea also displayed a new ICBM at a military parade last night Eastern.

2. Detroit doctor arrested for performing female genital mutilation

A Detroit emergency room doctor is being accused of performing “female genital mutilation” procedures on girls as young as six years old. Dr. Jumana Nagarwala has been arrested and charged in federal court.

Female genital mutilation, or FGM, is practiced as a religious ritual in many parts of the world and is often found in Muslim communities. The procedure varies widely, but involves mutilating or surgically removing portions of the female genitalia in order to prevent promiscuity by curtailing sexual pleasure. Victims of the procedure suffer a myriad of physical complications, as well as psychological repercussions.

4. The place in Afghanistan where it’s “easy to kill women”

A 19-year-old shot by her husband’s family after he claimed she wasn’t a virgin. An 18-year-old was killed with her mother because of suspicion she had had an abortion. And a 17-year-old killed and burned when she tried to escape from a forced marriage. Our Observer in Ghor province, Afghanistan, brings us three stories of honour killings from the last three weeks.

Ghor is a remote mountain province 400 km west of the capital Kabul. The Taliban and other armed groups are active, and state control is weak. It’s also one of the least-developed provinces in Afghanistan: child marriage is common, and “honour killings” – often women trying to flee marriages they were forced into – are frequent.

According to Afghan law, girls must be 16 years old to marry, and boys 18. But our Observer says that in the remote villages of Ghor, the law is seldom respected. The marriage of a 6-year-old girl to a 55-year mullah in the province 2016 provoked international outrage.

5. Canada’s anti-Islamophobia study to start next month

A committee study that Canada’s controversial anti-Islamophobia motion called for is likely to get underway next month, the Sun has learned.

All eyes will be on the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage as it hears from dozens of witnesses to study the ill-defined phenomenon of Islamophobia, along with other forms of discrimination and racism.

Liberal MP Iqra Khalid’s M-103 passed in the House of Commons by a vote of 201-91 on March 23 after weeks of controversy surrounding the wording of the motion. Now the committee will pick up where the motion leaves off.

While the motion supposedly denounces all discrimination, Islamophobia was the only one that received a specific mention. Khalid has stated her motion was partially inspired by E-411, an online petition exclusively focused on Islam.

A number of mainstream pundits argued during the controversy that the motion was nothing more than a gesture and would never amount to anything.

6. REPORT: HEZBOLLAH EVACUATING POSITIONS NEAR ISRAEL’S GOLAN HEIGHTS

Hezbollah forces have begun to evacuate territory near Syria’s Golan region, not far from the Israeli border, after the US State Department demanded that the Lebanese terror organization immediately leave the area, Syrian news agency Al-Ittihad reported Thursday.

The report added that Hezbollah fighters began clearing their stronghold in the Qalamun Mountains nearly a week before the US military conducted airstrikes against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s air force on April 6.

7. Germany Moves To Ban Child Marriages After Finding 1500 Cases Among Refugees

The German government agreed on a proposal Wednesday to outlaw child marriages after finding more than 1,500 cases of immigrant minors having adult spouses.

The Central Register of Foreign Nationals has documented a surge in child marriages in recent years. As of July 2016, 1,500 minors of non-German background were registered as married, including 361 under the age of 14.

The largest group of child brides, 664 minors, come from Syria followed by Afghanistan and Iraq.
