The first female Muslim U.S. judge – who later became the first black woman appointed to the New York Court of Appeals – was found dead Wednesday on the bank of the Hudson River.
Sheila Abdus-Salaam’s body showed no obvious signs of trauma, and a medical examiner was set to try to determine what killed her; however, police sources told The New York Post her death appeared to be a suicide.

I am 90% sure that this woman was affiliated with the NOI, Nation of Islam, of Malcolm X and Louis Farrakhan. The NOI were major players in the African-American community and in the ’70s and 80’s, their members could be seen on street-corners and highway ramps peddling issues of “The Final Call”, their newspaper, dressed in black suits with starched white shirts and bow ties. They were generally considered a positive force in the community, because they worked very hard to dissuade youth away from the usual petty crime/drugs scene. The women were not required to cover their hair, but often wore colorful turban-like hats. It is entirely credible that this woman could be a Black Muslim (NOI) and also distinguish herself as a outstanding public servant. Up until 9-11 or thereabouts, this is what was understood as being a “Black Muslim”.
Now, “Muslim” means something different; the distinction is not being made clear in the mainstream media reporting of this story. It’s almost as if this story has been purposely groomed to further the Islamophobia narrative, and conceal the fact that not all Muslims are “Muslims”.
The ‘Brotherhood’ Muslims, the Salafists and Wahhabi-ists consider the NOI a blasphemous cult; were they to come to power, the NOI would be first or second on the chopping block.

“The pair furnished several cellular phones to the cooperating source, believing they would be used to detonate explosive devices in ISIS attacks overseas,” the statement added.
Two other undercover FBI agents posed as supporters of IS with interest in fighting for the group in the region. The agents, informant and two suspects regularly met at several locations over the course of the year.
In one meeting, Schimenti allegedly expressed desires to witness the IS flag raised “on top of the White House.”
Prosecutors claim Schimenti took part in a physical training session with the informant in a local gym, suggesting the exercises would “make you good, you know in the battlefield.”
The suspects, both from Illnois, face a maximum punishment of up to 20 years in prison if convicted.”

Muslim men are allowed to hit their wives — but only gently, and not with fists, instead using short sticks and pieces of fabric, according to a new video produced by the Australian women’s branch of radical Islamic political movement Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The video, posted to Facebook by the Women of Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia, features a Muslim woman, who identifies herself as Sydney primary-school teacher Reem Allouche, demonstrating the appropriate ways by which Muslim men may discipline their disobedient wives.
She says the “hitting” must be done in a “managed way” with a short stick, a twisted scarf or a scrap of fabric.
“It’s symbolic,” she says.
A fellow panellist adds: “And a beautiful blessing.”

Police Call Qurans Found in Toilet at UTD ‘Shocking and Unusual’
Police at the University of Texas at Dallas say they’re searching for the person who dumped several copies of the Quran in campus toilets.
They call the incident “shocking” and “unusual.”
A student recently discovered the books inside a bathroom at the university’s Student Union building. After snapping some pictures to document the apparent anti-Muslim act, he immediately reported it to campus security, which got police involved.
UT Dallas junior Mohammad Syed, a Muslim, said he didn’t believe the news until he saw photos published in the student newspaper.
“It’s definitely saddening and a little disturbing as well,” said Syed, who is the President of the UT Dallas Muslim Student Association. “It’s something that we do not expect to happen, especially at this campus.”
Syed said he’s always known UT Dallas as a diverse and inclusive place, which was the one of the things that drew him to pursue a degree in neuroscience there.

China warns against force as North Korea prepares celebration
BEIJING/PYONGYANG (Reuters) – Military force cannot resolve tension over North Korea, China said on Thursday, while an influential Chinese newspaper urged the North to halt its nuclear programme in exchange for Chinese protection.
With a U.S. aircraft carrier group steaming to the area and tension rising, South Korea said it believed the United States would consult it before any pre-emptive strike against the North.
Fears have been growing that the reclusive North could soon conduct its sixth nuclear test or more missile launches in defiance of U.N. sanctions and stark warnings from the United States that a policy of patience was over.
China, North Korea’s sole major ally and benefactor, which nevertheless opposes its weapons programme, has called for talks leading to a peaceful resolution and the denuclearisation of the peninsula.
“Military force cannot resolve the issue,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters in Beijing.
“Amid challenge there is opportunity. Amid tensions we will also find a kind of opportunity to return to talks.”

North Korea may have the capacity to deliver missiles equipped with sarin nerve gas, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Thursday, amid concerns that the reclusive state could soon conduct its sixth nuclear test or more missile launches.
“There is a possibility that North Korea already has a capability to deliver missiles with sarin as warheads,” Abe told a parliamentary session.
Members of a Japanese doomsday cult killed 12 people and made thousands ill in 1995 in simultaneous attacks with sarin nerve gas on five Tokyo rush-hour subway trains.

MIT Press Publishes ‘Communism for Kids’ Book
‘Lovable little revolutionaries’ teach children communism is ‘not that hard’
MIT Press is out with a new book that teaches children the tenets of Karl Marx with fairy tales.
Communism for Kids, written by a German author who specializes in political theory and “queer politics,” was released last month. The thesis of the children’s book is that communism is “not that hard,” but has not been implemented in the right way.
“Once upon a time, people yearned to be free of the misery of capitalism. How could their dreams come true?” a plot synopsis for the book reads. “This little book proposes a different kind of communism, one that is true to its ideals and free from authoritarianism.”
The book is full of cartoon drawings of “lovable little revolutionaries” that help navigate kids through the “evils” of capitalism.
“Offering relief for many who have been numbed by Marxist exegesis and given headaches by the earnest pompousness of socialist politics, it presents political theory in the simple terms of a children’s story, accompanied by illustrations of lovable little revolutionaries experiencing their political awakening,” MIT Press states.

Which Way Will France Go?

It was a sort of farewell to the army. During a brief visit to the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle last December, French President François Hollande honored the French soldiers involved in “Operation Chammal” against the Islamic State. After two years and 238 deaths at the hands of Islamic terrorism, what did France do to defeat radical Islam? Almost nothing.
It is this legacy of indifference that is at stake in the looming French presidential elections. If Marine Le Pen or François Fillon win, it means that France has rejected this autocratic legacy and wants to try a different, braver way. If Emmanuel Macron wins, France as we have known it can be considered pretty much over. Macron is, for example, against taking away French nationality from jihadists. Terrorism, Islam and security are almost absent from Macron’s vocabulary and platform, and he is in favor of lowering France’s state of emergency. By blaming “colonialism” for French troubles in the Arab world, and calling it “a crime against humanity”, he has effectively legitimized Muslim extremist violence against the French Republic.

n his inaugural address on January 20, U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to “unite the civilized world against… and eradicate radical Islamic terrorism.” So far, however, the administration in Washington, like its predecessors, has done little to rein in one of the key sources of this growing global phenomenon — the Muslim Brotherhood.
Founded by Sheikh Hassan al-Banna in Egypt in 1928, the Brotherhood does not always openly advocate violence. But its main agenda is to establish a worldwide Islamic Caliphate by way of the sword. As its motto reads: “The Prophet is our leader; jihad is our way; death for the sake of Allah is our wish.”

National Security Advisor Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster’s past affiliation with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) has created fresh concerns after research conducted by Disobedient Media revealed that the British think tank has taken funding from multiple governments in the Middle East and organizations tied to George Soros. McMaster’s former position with the IISS indicates a potential conflict of interest given the think tanks’ financial ties to sponsors who are anti-American and in some cases, states sponsors of terrorism.
I. The IISS Has Financial Ties To Middle Eastern States And Soros-Connected Organizations
The International Institute for Strategic Studies is a UK-based think tank with strong establishment ties which was credited by former U.S. Ambassador Raymond Leonard Garthoff in his memoirs as being a driving force in creating “intellectual structures for managing the Cold War.” The IISS has famously boasted that it “owes no allegiance to any government, or to any political or other organization” and produces research cited and utilized by a vast number of groups internationally. But on December 6th, 2016, The Guardian reported that documents published by the organization Bahrain Watch showed that the IISS received more than £25 million in funding from the Bahraini royal family. The leaked documents also revealed that the IISS and Bahrain’s rulers specifically agreed to keep the latter’s funding secret, which would be used to pay for an IISS office in the country as well as annual conferences on Middle East politics attended by heads of state and other powerful figures in Bahrain’s capital of Manama. The Middle East Eye also published research indicating that in 2015 this funding accounted for over half the IISS’ total income during that period.
A reference of the IISS’ Sources of Funding Statement page reveals that the think tank also receives funds from a shocking list of special interest groups, including the Carnegie Corporation New York, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Northrop Grumman, Executive Affairs Authority – Abu Dhabi, The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense, the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), the embassies of China, Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and the High Commission for Pakistan. The IISS also accepted donations from George Soros’ Open Society Foundation and the Ploughshares Fund.
The Ploughshares Fund is financed by the Open Society Foundation. A May 5, 2016 article by the New York Times revealed that the Ploughshares Fund was a major player in efforts to sell the Iranian nuclear deal to the American public. The deal has been generally criticized as a foreign policy failure, resulted in the transfer of hundreds of billions of dollars to Iran without any concessions in return and has failed to prevent Iran from continuing to illegally test long range ICBM missiles in violation of both the deal and international sanctions.
George Soros has faced backlash internationally in Eastern Europe, after his organizations were banned from Hungary and placed under audit in Macedonia amid accusations that he was meddling in the countries’ political processes and improperly seeking to influence public opinion. Disobedient Media, The New York Times and The Washington Times have all highlighted Soros’ financial support for anti-democracy movements in the United States who seek to undermine democratic institutions and pursue regime change. The billionaire investor’s financial involvement with the IISS seriously undermines their claims of independence already on shaky ground after the revelations from The Guardian and Bahrain Watch.
II. H.R. McMaster Served As Consulting Senior Fellow At The IISS
H.R. McMaster was appointed to the position of National Security Advisor after the resignation of Michael Flynn in February 2017. McMaster was widely praised by the media after he steered away from Flynn’s hardline stance towards terrorism, stating that the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism” was “not helpful.” Although McMaster has extensive counterinsurgency experience from his years in Iraq, his legacy there has been criticized by the Asia Times as having utilized vast amounts of U.S. funds and resources only to leave behind an Iraqi government that was brittle and at risk of collapse, while failing to quell sectarian tensions that have allowed Iran to leverage interests throughout the Middle East and expand their influence through Hamas and Hezbollah.
From September 2006 to February 2017, H.R. McMaster served at the IISS as a Consulting Senior Fellow. The IISS’ website indicates that McMaster focused on topics relating to conflict and conflict prevention, development and security, civil-military relations and military history. McMaster’s close, longstanding ties to the IISS create concerns about conflicts of interest given the think tank’s financial connections to multiple foreign states across the Middle East and Asia, as well as figures like George Soros who are actively seeking to resist the administration of Donald Trump after the latter’s defeat of Soros-supported candidate Hillary Clinton in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.
McMaster’s affiliation with an organization that has taken money not only from groups who pushed the harmful and counterproductive Iran nuclear deal, but states who media reports and releases from Wikileaks have shown to be sponsors of terrorism in both the Middle East and the West raise serious questions given the many years McMaster spent with the IISS. The IISS’ connection to such parties will no doubt continue to dog the Lieutenant General going forward given his central role in advising President Donald Trump during the U.S.’s controversial April 6th missile strike in Syria and his belligerent rhetoric directed at the Russian Federation over their support for Bashar al-Assad.

PARIS – Paris police say a gasoline bomb hit the building housing French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen’s campaign headquarters, causing a small fire.
The Paris fire department says no one was injured in the incident overnight Thursday and the blaze was quickly extinguished. The device hit an insurance office on the ground floor where Le Pen’s campaign is based.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish Commander of the Iraqi Special Operations Forces on Tuesday stated with the help of the US army the Iraqi forces were able to tackle weaponized drones used by the Islamic State (IS) in Mosul.
In an interview with Kurdistan24, Commander of the Iraqi Special Operations Forces Fadhil Barwari said the US-made devices had successfully disabled the drones and prevented them from flying 50-100 meters above western Mosul.
“We were able to deal with the IS drones [on Monday] in a way that stopped them from flying,” Barwari told Kurdistan24.
“We took down six grenade-attached drones today by using the US-made devices,” the Commander added.

Some of the biggest blows to the progressive cause in the past year have often been due to the votes of white men. If white men were not allowed to vote, it is unlikely that the United Kingdom would be leaving the European Union, it is unlikely that Donald Trump would now be the President of the United States, and it is unlikely that the Democratic Alliance would now be governing four of South Africa’s biggest cities.
If white men no longer had the vote, the progressive cause would be strengthened. It would not be necessary to deny white men indefinitely – the denial of the vote to white men for 20 years (just less than a generation) would go some way to seeing a decline in the influence of reactionary and neo-liberal ideology in the world. The influence of reckless white males were one of the primary reasons that led to the Great Recession which began in 2008. This would also strike a blow against toxic white masculinity, one that is long needed.

BREITBART – CNN Panics over French Election, Admits Le Pen Could Win
CNN has said the similarity between the French presidential election and the U.S. presidential election is “frightening” as they predict Marine Le Pen’s polling numbers could be much higher than current polls indicate.
The U.S. presidential election in 2016 saw more than its fair share of twists and turns, ultimately leading to an electoral college victory for President Donald Trump. CNN claims the French election is looking similar in many ways as establishment candidates like Republican François Fillon and Socialist party Benoit Hamon are pushed out of the race.
The piece, which was written by David A. Andelman, claims that French media is behaving much like U.S. media did in the run-up to the election, “effectively baptising one of the two leading candidates the winner even before the first ballot is cast”.
French newspaper Le Monde asked readers: “What would the first months of an Emmanuel Macron presidency look like?” which Andelman said evoked U.S. media who claimed that Hillary Clinton could not lose. Some outlets like the Huffington Post gave her a 98.2 per cent chance to win on election day.
Andelman claims the two front runners, Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron, are both “alarming”. Le Pen because she wants to remove France from the European Union and the euro, as well as tackle Islamisation, and Macron because “he has no party machine behind him to back him in any tough battle in the National Assembly”.
Most polls indicate a tie between Macron and Le Pen in the first round. But CNN says the polls are faulty and predicts Le Pen will likely have a much larger turnout, claiming many of Le Pen’s supporters do not talk to media and do not spend time online where most of the French polling is conducted.
Scandals have also been a major factor for candidates like Fillon who has been mired in accusations of financial corruption. Le Pen, Andelman claims, “seems largely immune to every scandal”, and compared her to President Trump saying she is “rather like someone else who was declared out of the race more than once”.
Finally, Andelman touched on the narrative of “fake news” and Russian involvement which many in the U.S. media said had a hand in the loss of Hillary Clinton. Citing the recent meeting between Le Pen and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, he said Le Pen was the “favoured candidate” of the Kremlin and “Russian hackers” were spreading “fake news” to help her.
The first round of the French presidential election will take place on 23 April, followed by a second round between the first and second place candidates on 7 May.

“Facing harassment, enforced shutdowns and the threat of jail at home, Turkey’s journalists in exile are using Germany as a base to report on political turmoil in their country ahead of Sunday’s referendum.
“We are here because there is no freedom of the press, and no freedom of expression in Turkey anymore,” said Can Dundar, the former editor-in-chief of the respected Cumhuriyet newspaper.
Dundar was convicted of revealing state secrets after he published a report saying that Turkey’s intelligence agency was involved in sending weapons to Syrian rebels. He was jailed for three months and shot at in front of a court house as he was briefing reporters. Dundar was sentenced to prison but left for Germany after he was freed on appeal without travel restrictions.
Now he’s running the bilingual news website Ozguruz in Berlin, with the help of the German nonprofit news organization Correctiv . “Ozguruz” means “We are free” in Turkish.
“There are of course friends and colleagues still struggling in Turkey, but it is a really dangerous task,” Dundar told The Associated Press. “I spent three months in jail and I was shot in front court house, and my only fault was writing the news. So because of that we decided to do this from outside.”
On Sunday, Turks will vote “yes” or “no” to constitutional amendments that would abolish the office of the prime minister and transfer executive powers to the president, something President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s critics fear would cement his powers and further mold Turkey according to his conservative and pro-Islamic views. Opinion polls suggest he could win narrowly.
Erdogan has cracked down on the opposition in the wake of an attempted coup in July he blames on followers of exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen. In addition to jailing and firing thousands of military and government officials, the government closed some 178 news organizations. The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said that Turkey jailed more journalists in 2016 than any other country, with 81 held at the time of the CPJ’s annual prison census.
Journalist Deniz Yucel, who has German and Turkish citizenship, was arrested last month in Turkey on charges of disseminating terrorist propaganda and inciting hatred. He was detained after his reports about a hacker attack on the email account of the country’s energy minister, who is Erdogan’s son-in-law.
Erdogan has accused Yucel of being a German spy and a PKK associate. Germany dismissed Erdogan’s claims as absurd. Erdogan’s office declined to comment for this story.
Like Dundar, Celal Baslangic, editor-in-chief of Arti TV — which means “TV Plus” — wants to bring fact-based reporting to Turks in Turkey and in Germany. He is operating out of modest offices in an industrial park on the outskirts of Cologne, which has a large Turkish immigrant population.
Germany is home to some 3 million people with Turkish roots. Half of them can vote in Turkey’s referendum. Arti TV recruited several of its technical staff from among Turkish-speakers in Germany, although the journalists tend to be from Turkey itself.
“Our plan with Arti TV is to give a voice for those who do not have a voice or whose voice cannot be heard — and for those who cannot be seen” in Turkey, Baslangic told the AP. “No matter what the outcome and the result of the referendum will be, Turkey is facing a long and dark period of time.”
“If the result is ‘yes’, the time will be longer, harder and bloodier — maybe. If the result is ‘no,’ there will be a small flame and also a bit of hope to be free,” he added. “One day there will be a brighter future anyway.”…”
A Michigan doctor was charged Thursday with performing female genital mutilation on minors in the first such case that falls under a U.S. law treating the practice as a felony offense, according to the Department of Justice.

A man trying to impose what he calls “the civil part of the sharia law” in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis has sparked anger among local residents and Muslim leaders.
Abdullah Rashid, 22, a Georgia native who moved to Cedar-Riverside last year, has been making the rounds in the Somali-dominated neighborhood, telling people not to drink, use drugs or interact with the opposite sex. If he sees Muslim women he believes are dressed inappropriately, he approaches them and suggests they should wear a jilbab, a long, flowing garment. And he says he’s recruiting others to join the effort.

An estimated 4,000 Somali migrants in the U.S. are expected to be deported by President Donald Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
In an interview, Somalia’s Ambassador to the U.S. Ahmed Isse Awad said the number of Somalis ICE is looking to deport is at least 4,000, with the vast majority not being currently held in immigration detention centers.

More than two dozen U.S. insurers affiliated with Travelers Cos (TRV.N) have sued two Saudi banks, companies affiliated with Osama bin Laden’s family, and several charities for at least $4.2 billion over the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
The lawsuit filed late on Wednesday night in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan is the latest effort to hold entities in Saudi Arabia liable for the attacks.
