  1. A German judge authorized on Thursday the arrest of a 26-year-old Iraqi man detained after an attack on a bus carrying players of a soccer team, and prosecutors said they believed he was a member of Islamic State.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office said the man, identified as Abdul Beset A., had joined Islamic State in Iraq by the end of 2014 at the latest and had led a 10-man command unit there. The jihadist group controls parts of Iraq and Syria.

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN)Nigeria’s secret service says it foiled a planned attack by Boko Haram militants on the US and UK embassies in the country’s capital, Abuja.

Six ISIS-linked Boko Haram members were arrested for the planned attack last month, the Department of State Services (DSS) said.
“The group had perfected plans to attack the UK and American Embassies and other western interests in Abuja,” DSS official Tony Opuiyo said in a statement.

  3. The “Resistance” Democrats are a Terrorist Party
The Democrats have committed to overthrowing our government.

What does #Resistance really mean? It means the overthrow of our government.

In this century, Democrats rejected the outcomes of two presidential elections won by Republicans. After Bush won, they settled for accusing him of being a thief, an idiot, a liar, a draft dodger and a mass murderer. They fantasized about his assassination and there was talk of impeachment. But elected officials gritted their teeth and tried to get things done.

This time around it’s “radically” different.

The official position, from the Senate to the streets, is “Resistance.” Leftist media outlets are feeding the faithful a fantasy that President Trump will be brought down. There is fevered speculation about the 25th Amendment, a coup or impeachment due to whatever scandal has been manufactured last.

This fantasy is part clickbait. Leftist media outlets are feeding the worst impulses of their readers. But there is a bigger and more disturbing radical endgame.

The left can be roughly divided into moderates and radicals. The distinction doesn’t refer to outcome; both want very similar totalitarian societies with very little personal freedom and a great deal of government control. Instead it’s about the tactics that they use to get to that totalitarian system.

  4. Minneapolis Muslims protest ‘sharia’ vigilante in Cedar-Riverside area
Man “patrolling” Cedar-Riverside has community leaders, police on watch.

A man trying to impose what he calls “the civil part of the sharia law” in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis has sparked anger among local residents and Muslim leaders.

Abdullah Rashid, 22, a Georgia native who moved to Cedar-Riverside last year, has been making the rounds in the Somali-dominated neighborhood, telling people not to drink, use drugs or interact with the opposite sex. If he sees Muslim women he believes are dressed inappropriately, he approaches them and suggests they should wear a jilbab, a long, flowing garment. And he says he’s recruiting others to join the effort.

But local Muslim leaders are sounding the alarm. They are working to stop Rashid’s group, General Presidency of the Religious Affairs and Welfare of the Ummah, and have notified Minneapolis police, who say he’s being banned from a Cedar-Riverside property. Some say the group is preying on vulnerable young Muslims in a community that has dealt with national scrutiny around radicalization and terrorism.

“What he’s doing is wrong and doesn’t reflect the community at all,” said Jaylani Hussein, executive director of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Minneapolis police received reports in February from concerned residents who saw Rashid in a dark green uniform that said “Muslim Defense Force” and “Religious Police” and had two flags associated with ISIS and other terrorist groups.

  5. Detroit physician charged with mutilating girls’ genitalia

Detroit — A Detroit emergency room physician was charged Wednesday with mutilating the genitalia of two 7-year-old girls in what is believed to be the first case of its kind brought under federal law.

Jumana Nagarwala of Livonia was charged with female genital mutilation, a five-year felony, and transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, a 10-year felony, according to a complaint unsealed Thursday in U.S. District Court.

“According to the complaint, despite her oath to care for her patients, Dr. Nagarwala is alleged to have performed horrifying acts of brutality on the most vulnerable victims,” Acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco said in a statement. “The Department of Justice is committed to stopping female genital mutilation in this country, and will use the full power of the law to ensure that no girls suffer such physical and emotional abuse.”

  6. Turkish referendum polls show ‘Yes’ vote above 51 percent

A narrow majority of Turks will vote “Yes” in Sunday’s referendum on changing the constitution to grant President Tayyip Erdogan sweeping new powers, two opinion polls showed on Thursday.

The April 16 vote will decide on the biggest change in Turkey’s system of governance since the modern republic’s foundation almost a century ago, potentially replacing its parliamentary system with an executive presidency.

Polling company Konda said the number of “yes” voters stood at 51.5 percent, but said its survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percent.

  9. Restriction on Religion in Morocco on the Rise: Study (moroccoworldnews, Apr 13, 2017)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2017/04/213949/restriction-on-religion-in-morocco-on-the-rise-study/

“Restriction on religion in Morocco has been increasing, according to a new study conducted by the AmericanPew Research Center.

The study, which surveyed 198 countries, listed Morocco among 23 countries with ‘very high’ government restrictions on religion in 2015, along with Vietnam, Singapore, Algeria, Iraq, Eritrea, Brunei and Mauritania.

The center further noted that there were four countries, including Morocco, Cameroon, Comoros, and Niger – that experienced a large change on the Government Restrictions Index in 2015 showing a movement toward higher restrictions.

The Washington-based center did not explain precisely how restriction on religion in Morocco was increasing. It did, however, say that this rise was due to policies targeting certain religious practices.

The report noted that in July of 2015, the governor of Cameroon’s Far North Region banned the full-face veil after female suicide bombers wearing the religious garment killed at least 13 people in attacks.

Restriction on religion in Morocco increased markedly from 2007 to 2015, according to the study, which showed that the baseline for the study was 4.9 in 2007, 5.3 in 2014, and had increased to 7.5 by December 2015.

In January 2017, the Moroccan Minister of Interior decided to prohibit the sale and manufacture of the burqa across the country.

The decision, which captured the attention of the international media, stirred a heated controversy among Moroccans themselves, inspiring several preachers to argue publicly over the issue.

The ban on the sale of burqa, was widely suspected to have been motivated by security concerns. It prompted scores of Moroccan women who wear the garment to gather outside parliament in Rabat and pour into the squares in Casablanca to denounce the decision.”

Sana quoted the army chief of staff.

”Many people died suffocated by toxic gas inhalations” in the raid, wrote Sana, adding that this allegedly occurred ”yesterday between 5:30 and 5:50 pm”.

According to the Syrian army, the ”depot of poisonous substances” struck was in Hatla, east of Dayr az Zor, in the region by the same name bordering with Iraq.

Syrian President Bashar al Assad on Thursday told Agence France Presse, in an interview quoted by international media that a gas attack blamed on his government last week in Idlib province was ”100 percent fabrication”. He claimed that the Syrian army had given up all chemical weapons.

Assad told AFP that the US strike did not reduce the capability of Syrian government forces.”

“The United States on Thursday added the brother of Iran’s most high-profile military chief Qassem Soleimani to its sanctions list, accusing him of overseeing torture and other abuses at Tehran’s Evin Prison.

The measure from the US Treasury Department targets both Sohrab Soleimani and the Tehran Prisons Organization.

  13. Turkey lagging behind in religious freedoms: Research (hurriyetdailynews, Apr 13, 2017)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-lagging-behind-in-religious-freedoms-research.aspx?pageID=238&nID=111997&NewsCatID=393

“the restrictions on religion and social hostilities involving religion increased in 2015 for the first time in three years, according to Pew Research Center’s latest annual study on global restrictions on religion. According to Pew, Turkey is among the countries where restrictions on religion are “very high.”

In the report, Pew stated that many countries have some form of restriction on religion, whether that involves policies favoring some groups over others or outright bans on certain worship practices.

“But each year, a few countries stand out as having particularly extensive restrictions,” the report said.

In 2015, 23 of the 198 countries in the study had “very high” levels of restrictions, up from 16 countries in 2014. Some 13 countries – like China, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Iran – have had very high levels of restrictions every year since 2007, the first year for which data are available.

Other countries may fluctuate into and out of this top category. Eight countries had very high levels of government restrictions in 2015 but not in 2014, which are Vietnam, Singapore, Morocco, Algeria, Iraq, Eritrea, Brunei and Mauritania. Laos was the only country to fall out of this category in 2015.

Turkey was in the category in 2014 and still is, but there is a low level of improvement, according to the report.

Pew didn’t rank the countries in the category due to the difficulty of listing them taking the geographical differences into account.

The number of countries with “high” levels of restrictions fell somewhat, from 31 countries in 2014 to 27 countries in 2015, although this was mainly due to some countries moving into the “very high” category.

Meanwhile, the number of countries with “low” levels of restrictions decreased from 2014 to 2015, from 92 to 87.

Similarly, most countries have some form of social hostilities involving religion, including social groups harassing members of a certain religion, or terrorist groups carrying out actions in the name of religion.

“Some countries, however, have particularly extensive social hostilities,” the report said.

Turkey was listed in the “high” category in this list and the report noted that there are regressions in terms of social hostilities involving religion.

Each year, some countries experience significant changes in their scores on the Government Restrictions Index (GRI) without necessarily rising into – or falling out of – the “very high” restrictions category.

Four countries – Cameroon, Comoros, Morocco and Niger – had a large change (2.0 points or more) on the GRI in 2015, all in the direction of higher restrictions.

Twenty-nine countries had modest changes of between 1.0 and 1.9 points in their GRI scores. Of these countries, four – Laos, Fiji, Turkey and Uganda – had decreases.”

  14. Fearing for future, some Turks seek new lives abroad

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Lawyer Savas Ersoy and his wife turned down many chances to leave Turkey and work abroad. But after a failed coup, a wave of bombs and the referendum on expanding presidential powers on Sunday, they are packing their bags.

Like other professionals who are leaving Turkey, the Ersoys say they are uncertain about the country’s political future and afraid of instability.

“We have been thinking of moving abroad for about a year and a half. However, with the developments in Turkey over the past six to seven months, we have decided to move,” said the 37-year-old lawyer.

Sunday’s referendum could grant President Tayyip Erdogan new authority and transform Turkish politics. Already the most powerful leader since the founder of modern Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Erdogan has won successive elections and enjoys strong support among pious and conservative voters, mainly in rural areas.

But he is viewed with suspicion by many liberal Turks, who say the secular foundations of the country of 80 million people are being eroded by an increasingly authoritarian president.

The Ersoys are moving to the Danish capital Copenhagen this month after Ersoy’s wife, who works in the pharmaceutical sector, took up the offer of a job they had previously declined.

“We have had job offers from abroad before as well. We didn’t accept them, thinking ’Why would we go?’ But the developments after (the failed coup on) July 15, the referendum, this executive presidency issue, things have gotten out of hand,” Ersoy said.

“A “Yes” vote in the upcoming referendum on constitutional amendments is necessary to fight terrorism more effectively, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said, accusing the opposition of supporting terror and standing against the interests of Turkey.

“After April 16, Turkey can fight terrorist organizations and powers that support those organizations in a more determined manner,” Erdo?an said at a rally in the northern province of Ordu on April 13.

Speaking mostly on “domestic and foreign threats,” Erdo?an said the new constitution will help facilitate the fight against terror threats.

“We have been tripped by outside and internal [forces]. We have commenced a grand struggle in order to scrape the terrorist organizations off. In our struggle against FETÖ [Fethullahist Terrorist Organization], PKK [outlawed Kurdistan Worker’s Party] and DHKP-C [outlawed Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party – Front]. We have not showed mercy to anyone; we will not do that,” he said.

“We have neutralized around 11,000 terrorists. We will break their backs. We buried them and continue to do so. We buried them into the ditches they dug in the southeast. They cannot divide this country; they cannot silence our calls to prayers,” he added.

Saying the terrorist organizations were against the constitutional amendments, Erdo?an accused all naysayers of aligning with terror groups…”

  16. Marine Le Pen’s campaign HQ target of ‘arson attack’

Marine Le Pen’s campaign headquarters were targeted in an arson attack, causing minor damage to the building and prompting the Front National candidate to blame leftist groups.

Ms Le Pen said should would press for charges over the attack.

Police said unknown arsonists had thrown a petrol bomb at the building, causing damage to a door and a doormat.

Firefighters were called around 2.40am to the ground floor offices of an insurance company on the upmarket Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in central Paris.

A fire service spokesman said the fire was “quickly brought under control”.

“… They said Maulana Fazal encourages the Pakistani Taliban to political negotiations but encourages the Afghan Taliban to Jihad, holy war.

According to the Ulemas, Pakistan has received billions from the United States to eliminate the militant groups fighting under the umbrella of Jihad but Maulana Fazal endorses Jihad in Afghanistan, raising questions regarding his justifications and asking why he is not declaring Jihad in Pakistan if remaining an ally of the United States is not justified as per the Islamic teachings.

This comes as Maulana Fazal had earlier said that the peace would not be achievable in Afghanistan as long as the foreign forces have a presence in the country.

Fazal is a pro-Taliban Pakistani political leader who had endorsed the Taliban extremism in Afghanistan, calling it a legitimate war against the foreign forces….”
