The Danish Immigration Service carries out long interviews with thorough cross examination.
Dorph told TV2 that it was his impression that many asylum seekers follow what they see as as a formula for correct answers when claiming asylum.
“You can say that a pattern emerges,” he said.
The immigration service vice director said that he could not be certain that all false stories had been exposed, and that asylum seekers were given the benefit of the doubt, should any exist.
The primary concern is to ascertain whether an individual is under threat, he said.”

China says ‘no such thing’ as man-made islands in South China Sea
BEIJING (Reuters) – There was “no such thing” as man-made islands in the disputed South China Sea, China’s Defence Ministry said on Thursday, and reiterated that any building work was mainly for civilian purposes.
China, which claims most of the resource-rich region, has carried out land reclamation and construction on several islands in the Spratly archipelago, parts of which are also claimed by Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.
The building has included airports, harbors and other facilities, involving in some cases the dumping of massive amounts of sand to build up land on what were reefs or structures that may only have been exposed at low tide.
But ministry spokesman Wu Qian implied that was perhaps a misunderstanding, though he said there was construction work which China had every right to do as the Spratlys were inherent Chinese territory.
“There is no such thing as man-made islands,” Wu told a regular monthly news briefing. “Most of the building is for civilian purposes, including necessary defensive facilities.”
The South China Sea is generally stable at present, but some countries outside the region are anxious about this and want to hype things up and create tensions, Wu said, using terminology that normally refers to the United States.

China says weapons won’t stop unification with Taiwan
BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s Defence Ministry said on Thursday it was futile for Taiwan to think it could use arms to prevent unification, as the self-ruled democratic island looks to fresh arms sales by the United States amid what it sees as a growing Chinese threat.
China has never renounced the use of force to bring under its control what it deems a wayward province, and Taiwan’s defense ministry says China has more than 1,000 missiles directed at the island.
The Trump administration is crafting a big new arms package for Taiwan that could include advanced rocket systems and anti-ship missiles to defend against China, U.S. officials said earlier this month, a deal sure to anger Beijing.
China is deeply suspicious of Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, believing she wants to push the island toward formal independence, a red line for China. She says she wants to maintain peace with China.
“Separatist Taiwan independence forces and their activities are the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman Wu Qian told a monthly news briefing.

California Governor Jerry Brown was on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, 26 March, for a wide-ranging interview with Chuck Todd. And somebody at NBC thought it would be a good idea to post a story about the encounter with the headline:
The governor’s defiant warning comes as President Trump’s attorney general, Jeff Sessions, is issuing his own warning to “sanctuary” locales: cities, counties – some of the biggest being in California – and even states. In fact, California has its own “sanctuary state” bill working its way through the legislature. With the nation’s largest population of illegal migrants, and an already clogged border with Mexico, California could make a difficult situation worse for its own citizens and the entire USA with such a law, which would focus on refusing certain kinds of cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
Brown made his case on Sunday on a different basis, of course, talking up the California economy:
But that’s really irrelevant, starting with the fact that government activity in California is not what keeps the economy going. It’s vice versa.

Up front, let’s revisit once more the point that this whole thing is about national security, government accountability, and your constitutional rights. The stakes are exceptionally high. It is of grave importance that the people gain a general understanding of what happened in this case.
For one thing, if we want to get a handle on the “Russia” issue, we can’t do it without appreciating what our agencies can and can’t know.
Given that Democrats in Washington have spoken repeatedly about bringing down the Trump administration over allegations about Russia (see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, even here) it isn’t good enough to ask the American people to simply take intel narratives on faith. If a duly-elected president is to be removed from office, every secret of every intelligence agency needs to be turned out, if necessary, to validate the reason for such a tremendous national crisis.

Primary school pupils in the German ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen were made to recite “there is no god but Allah” and memorise an Islamic profession of faith, an outraged father has revealed.
Children in the fourth-year class are said to have been “forced” by teachers to recite the Muslim prayer aloud, alternating line by line between German and Arabic.
The situation was brought to the attention of unsertirol24 when an angry father forwarded the Austrian news service the handout from which his daughter said the class was made to learn.
The worksheet, which was given out during an ecumenical religious service at the Bavarian school, states that the exercise is a lesson in “ethics”. The verse students were made to recite, which begins with “Allahu Akbar”, forms the beginning of the “second pillar of Islam” known as the prayer process.

ROME — Italian police on Thursday arrested three Kosovans in the city of Venice after one was caught on a phone intercept proposing they bomb the Rialto bridge while others lauded the recent attack in London. A minor was also detained.
Venice prosecutor Adelchi d’Ippolito said a search of a Venice apartment showed the suspects were getting in physical shape and watching videos of Islamic extremists on how to carry out knife attacks.

Muslims will fight U.S. proposals to ban Shariah law
Muslims complain they’re frivolous bills meant to spread fears and sow suspicion of their religion in a nation divided.
But supporters of state proposals to prevent Islamic code from being used in American courts argue they aren’t overtly anti-Muslim and are needed to safeguard constitutional rights for average Americans.
The bills, variations of which have been around for years, don’t specifically seek to ban Islamic law, known as Shariah, even though some lawmakers concede that’s their intent.
Instead, the proposals broadly call for banning the application of any foreign law, legal code or legal system that doesn’t grant the same rights and privileges as the state or U.S. constitutions.
“I believe very strongly in the values of America to allow for religious freedom,” said Connecticut state Rep. Robert Sampson, a Republican sponsor of a bill. “I just don’t want our court system to start using what is religious law from other countries to make decisions. I’d like to preserve our way of life.”

He seems to be doing this for the consumption of naïve Americans. These seem only too willing to believe — in the name of tolerance, diversity and trying to be non-judgmental — that an organization whose ultimate goal is the supreme reign of Islamic sharia law everywhere — if necessary through violent jihad — could possibly value anything even approximating equality and the rule of (non-sharia) law.

Readers may remember a controversy reported in January. It was proposed that an international “academic” conference about the legitimacy of Israel would take place in University College Cork in the Republic of Ireland. There have been several developments in this sorry enterprise since then.
What the conference, which goes under the revealing title, “International Law and the State of Israel: Legitimacy, Responsibility and Exceptionalism”, was about may be summed up in a few sentences. It has from the beginning been designed to denounce Israel as an illegal state, all under the cover of supposed neutral academic inquiry. The organizers had previously tried to hold the event at Britain’s Southampton University and, reportedly, other European universities, each time without success.
The new plan was to hold the conference with virtually all the same speakers and papers at Cork’s University College from March 31 to April 2 this year. When that plan became known, several people in Ireland and elsewhere, including this author, contacted the college in an attempt to persuade its administration to cancel the event. We did so on two principal grounds. One, that it proposes to be an anti-Semitic event according to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition. That definition, like two earlier international versions, includes several clauses in which overt demonization of Israel and attempts to deny the Jewish people their right to self-determination are treated as equally anti-Semitic as previous figures of speech in classical anti-Semitism. Here are the relevant clauses from that Definition:

Imam feels relief at new start after cluster of radicalized young men left to fight with terrorist groups
A Calgary mosque that became a focus in terrorism investigations after several men who prayed there left to fight abroad is closing its doors Friday — a move that leaves its imam and community with a sense of relief.
Nearly three years ago, CBC News revealed the identities of Salman Ashrafi, Damian Clairmont and others who left Canada to fight with jihadi groups in Syria and Iraq. All had attended prayers at the 8th and 8th mosque in downtown Calgary — whose name originates in its location at 835 8th Ave. SW. Many were killed abroad.
The imam, Navaid Aziz, told CBC News the community plans to begin anew, although it hasn’t finalized its new mosque location. There’s a sense of relief about finally leaving a place that became synonymous with radicalization, Aziz says.
“It was a place I taught and gave lectures. I performed people’s marriages. We celebrated people’s births in this mosque,” said Aziz.
“Then there was this dark element that lingered over it, that overshadowed and overpowered all of these amazing experiences over something I had no control over, something I had nothing to do with.
“Once that negative incident happened, that was so powerful, that outshined all of the positivity. That’s how I viewed 8th and 8th.”
Aziz recalls a time he wanted to lock himself in a room and not come out. But now he’s stepping out of the mosque and into the community.
In mid-March, Aziz organized the Stronger Together conference in Calgary. Hundreds of Muslims attended to address challenges facing the community.
‘I could never infiltrate that circle’
It’s a far cry from April 2012, when Aziz arrived from Montreal. There was no handbook or training manual for what he was about to encounter.
In early 2014 Calgary began dominating headlines as Canada’s jihadi hotspot.
Aziz felt the community wanted someone to take responsibility for the men radicalizing in a room connected to the mosque. So he did, even though he says it was impossible to know for sure what was going on.
“I saw them a couple of times, but I never saw anything first-hand that would arouse my suspicion. In front of me nothing ever happened,” Aziz said.
“I could never infiltrate that circle,” he said. “Eventually, I find out that they’re gone.”
‘It was such a dark moment’
Clairmont, Ashrafi, Tamim Chowdhury, Ahmad Waseem and brothers Gregory and Collin Gordon — who converted to Islam and became known to members of Calgary’s Muslim community as Abdul Malik and Khalid — left Canada months apart. They were all killed fighting under the banner of ISIS.
There have been no confirmed reports of the death of Farah Shirdon, another member of the 8th and 8th mosque. Shirdon, who was enrolled in the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary until at least 2012, got worldwide notoriety when he appeared in an ISIS video released in 2014.
Before burning his Canadian passport, Shirdon, in full view of the camera lens, issues a threat to Canada, the U.S. and “all oppressors.”
“We are coming and we will destroy you by the will of God,” Shirdon says on the video.
He faces six criminal charges related to his alleged support of ISIS.
Aziz says he knew Shirdon better than the other men who ended up with ISIS.
“When you think of that moment of where he takes the Canadian passport, tears it up and throws it into the flames, for me that is such a scene out of a Hollywood movie. It was such a dark moment for me,” said Aziz.
While intelligence officers and police were looking for the cause of this radicalization, Aziz says he too was once a target.
“I was interviewed regularly after that time,” Aziz said. “I would have trouble getting back into the country, getting held two or three hours by CBSA [Canada Border Services Agency] saying my file was flagged.
“I understood where it was coming from but I didn’t appreciate the lack of clarity.”
Aziz says he wishes he could have had a conversation with officials.
Instead, Aziz says, he co-operated with authorities for months. Police finally came around and saw him as an asset, he says. He went from being an alleged radicalizer to becoming the Muslim chaplain for the Calgary Police Service.
“I said I would love to do it. I want to help people. I want to make the world a better place,” says Aziz.
Aziz says the experience at the 8th and 8th mosque has taught him valuable lessons. Today he says he is able to identify signs of radicalization in an individual before it is too late.
Many Muslims were in denial — but that’s changing: former CSIS analyst
A former Canadian Security Intelligence Service analyst says security agencies were looking for partners in the community to stem the flow of men joining ISIS — but many in the Muslim community were in a state of a denial that it was happening.
Phil Gurski, who was a strategic analyst with CSIS for more than 30 years, says he wishes Aziz was as engaged then as he is now.
Talk more politics, less religion, say critics
“He’s trying to work with the police, with the authorities to say ‘OK, can we work with these people, can we get to these people before it’s too late?'” Gurski said.
“That denial has largely left because they know it’s happening. We are not trying to say it’s systemic, and it’s certainly not existential, but it is happening,” said Gurski.
Aziz hailed as key ally to fight extremism
CBC News has spoken with Nader Khalil, an RCMP outreach co-ordinator, and Const. Kim MacDonald of the Calgary Police diversity resource team, who say Aziz has emerged as an important ally in the fight against extremism in Calgary.
Muslim parents come to him with their concerns. Security agencies, government officials and interfaith groups say they’re leaning on Aziz to help reshape the perception of Muslims in Calgary.

Crowds gather in support of 13th annual Muslim Day at Minnesota state Capitol
ST. PAUL, Minn (KMSP) – Crowds gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol Wednesday to celebrate Muslim Day, an annual event that this year reflected the contentious politics of our current moment.
“I think it’s necessary for Americans to step up show that everybody is welcome in our country,” rally attendee Rich Krisch said.
People voiced their support with chants and signs, hoping to counter what many see as an increase in anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric–the most notable source being a duo of executive orders signed by President Donald Trump banning travel from a host of majority Muslim countries.
This response was not lost on Minnesota’s first Somali member of the state House, Rep. Ilhan Omar, DFL-Minneapolis, who gave a speech today about her experience as a Muslim politician and the increased scrutiny that came with it.
“What I did not expect and what I did not know would happen is that we would have a president who would be part of that scrutiny,” she said.
Governor Mark Dayton also spoke out in support of his state’s Muslim and immigrant populations, and said those who practice hatred would not be welcome in Minnesota.
At the event Omar also introduced a bill that would force employers to grant two days of unpaid leave a year for religious holidays and stress to school districts the importance of doing the same.
