  1. US weighs bigger role in Yemen’s war, boosting aid to allies (memo, Mar 28, 2017)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20170328-us-weighs-bigger-role-in-yemens-war-boosting-aid-to-allies/

“The United States is considering deepening its role in Yemen’s conflict by more directly aiding its Gulf allies battling Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, officials say, potentially relaxing a US policy that limited American support.

The review of potential new US assistance, which includes intelligence support, would come amid increasing evidence that Iran is sending advanced weapons and military advisers to the Houthi movement, a Shi’ite ally.

Any elevation in US support could be seen as a sign that President Donald Trump’s administration has made confronting Iran and its allies an early priority…”

  2. Qatar to invest 5 billion pounds in Britain over 3-5 years (abcnews, Mar 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/qatar-invest-billion-pounds-britain-years-46414099

“The energy-rich nation of Qatar says it plans to invest 5 billion pounds in the British economy within the next half decade.

Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani announced the $6.3 billion investment at an investment forum in London. He said the outlay would come over the next three to five years through investment funds and other “relevant parties” in the Gulf Arab country, a major exporter of natural gas.

The 2022 World Cup host nation has already invested heavily in Britain. Its holdings include a stake in British bank Barclays and several prominent London properties, including the iconic Harrods department store.

The OPEC member announced plans to invest $35 billion over five years in the United States in 2015.”

    • Get rid of socialism and there will be no need for the Arabs to use economic colonization.

      • This is exceptionally bad. Not only for the U.K. – which is bad enough, given its veto power at the UN Security Council.

The MB is Qatar’s personal pet, even to the detriment of its relationships with fellow Gulf states. Qatar is THE biggest funder and advocate of the terror-org. Pays K-Street lobbyists in Washington D.C. and PR firms everywhere to render the MB halal in kafir-eyes.

        The ramifications are stupendous:
        • Egypt, of course, is sunk against MB influence in the West: it will fall into the Russia-China orbit.

        • The Jordanian Opposition, based in London, won’t have a chance when the Dwarf-Kinglet falls. (Just a matter of time.) Jordan will go Moh-Bros, and a shattering civil war will ensue.

        • Israel won’t be on the sidelines for this one. The MB will maximize its ambitions by calling for global jihad against the only Jewish state. A global MB-MSM will so demonize Israel, North Korea will look like a saintly paradise.

Qatar/MB is buying the U.K. outright. The U.S. is way too cozy in the #1 Slave-Labor State. Brookings has a branch there, as do many universities (e.g. Georgetown – aka, U of Swamp).

Our house is being well and truly sabotaged by our own miserable hands.

        • Right now we need to concentrate on keeping President Trump in office and fighting the swamp, this will gives us a place to give refuge to the people who are fleeing Europe and other locations. We are going to have to save what places we can and work to liberate those that fall. This is going to be a long war and I doubt if either of us will live long enough to see the end. Civilization is falling but hopefully the barbarians that will arise in North America will be able to remain free.

          • Paradigm shift
We’re going to lose big chunks of the West.

London is not being conquered: The Muslims were invited and foreign investments have been legitimate. We have to respect the rule of law even if we don’t like it.

The WWII analogy is no longer appropriate. We won’t be “freeing” zombies or dhimmis. Maybe we can prevent wanton slaughter, help secure a border. Help evacuate and resettle people at risk.

We have to be thinking along those lines now.

            • Remember I have been saying that nations would be destroyed by splitting into several new nations? How can we save part of Britain as free nations, free nations that can decide if they want to conquer and de-islamilize and de-communize the rest of Britain. Personally I think they will have to do that to remain free but that is an argument for the future.

  3. 3 Kashmir civilians killed in protests against Indian rule (abcnews, Mar 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/kashmir-civilians-killed-protests-indian-rule-46414422

“Three civilians were killed and 28 other people were injured in anti-India protests that erupted Tuesday following a gunbattle between rebels and government forces that killed a rebel in disputed Kashmir, police and witnesses said.

The gunbattle began after police and soldiers cordoned off the southern town of Chadoora following a tip that at least one militant was hiding in a house, said Inspector-General Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani.

As the fighting raged, hundreds of residents chanting anti-India slogans marched near the area in an attempt to help the trapped rebel escape.

Witnesses said intense clashes between rock-throwing protesters and government forces erupted just a few hundred meters (yards) from the besieged house, with police and paramilitary soldiers firing shotgun pellets and tear gas to stop the protest.

However, clashes spread to multiple places in the area.

Later, government forces fired into the crowd, killing three civilians, including a teenager, and injuring at least 20 others, police said, adding that eight police and soldiers were also injured in the clashes.

An army officer said one militant was killed in the fighting and one weapon recovered from the site. The officer spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with military regulations.

Local residents said troops blasted the house with explosives…”

  4. German state warns Gulen followers of Turkish spy efforts (abcnews, Mar 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/german-state-warns-gulen-followers-turkish-spy-efforts-46415054

“Officials in the German state of Lower-Saxony are warning followers of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen of Turkish efforts to spy on them.

Lower-Saxony’s interior minister, Boris Pistorius, says Turkey’s foreign intelligence agency MIT handed its German counterpart a list of suspected Gulen supporters living in Germany with a request to put them under surveillance. The Turkish government claims the moderate Islamic religious movement was behind last year’s coup attempt.

Pistorius said Tuesday there was “no evidence that Gulen supporters in Germany had anything to do with the attempted putsch.”

He accused the Turkish government of having an “almost paranoid fear of conspiracy” and of trying to silence its critics.

Turkey has arrested 41,000 people in a crackdown against alleged Gulen supporters in the country since the failed coup last July.”

“Hungary must ensure that its new policy of detaining migrants on its border does not break EU rules on protecting people in need of asylum, the European Commission said on Tuesday as the legislation came into force.

The European Commissioner in charge of migration issues said the government has agreed to work with EU experts regarding the legislation under which migrants will be held in camps while their asylum requests are processed.

“In a very friendly spirit of positive cooperation we decided to work together through our experts and ensure that EU rules also are complied with,” Dimitris Avramopoulos told a news conference after his meeting in Budapest.

“The European principles have been jointly and unanimously agreed by all member states and should therefore be respected and implemented by everyone too.”

The U.N. refugee agency UNHCR has said Hungary will be breaking international and EU law if it detains children. The law means anyone above the age of 14 will be held in shipping containers on the border.

Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday that the law would force all migrants “to go through an unfair fast track procedure while detained in a transit zone.”

Avramopoulos urged Hungary to ensure asylum requests are processed fairly.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called mass migration a threat to Europe’s socioeconomic make up and a “Trojan horse for terrorism”….”

  6. LA mayor vows to fight Trump administration attempt to strip ‘sanctuary city’ funding

Responding to the latest warnings by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions that Department of Justice funds will be withheld from sanctuary cities, Mayor Eric Garcetti said Monday he will fight efforts by the Trump administration to take away federal funding needed for law enforcement in Los Angeles.

Garcetti said that such actions would be unconstitutional, adding that the city’s policies are “designed to keep our residents safe.”

“Slashing funds for first-responders, for our port and airport, for counterterrorism, crime-fighting and community-building serves no one — not this city, not the federal government, not the American people,” he said. “We will fight to protect the safety and dignity of all Angelenos, and we will work closely with our representatives in Congress to make sure that Los Angeles does not go without federal resources that help protect millions of people every day.”

  7. Austria says wants exemption from EU migrant relocation system (reuters, Mar 28, 2017)
    http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-europe-migrants-austria-idUKKBN16Z18D

“Austria will seek an exemption from having to accept more asylum-seekers under an EU relocation system, it said on Tuesday, arguing that it has already taken in its fair share during Europe’s migration crisis.

The move is a new blow to the system that would cover only a fraction of migrant arrivals to the European Union and that has barely been implemented because of opposition led by Eastern European countries including Poland and Hungary.

It also coincides with a tightening of security and immigration rules by the centrist coalition government in Austria, where a wave of arrivals that began in 2015 helped fuel a rise in support for the far-right Freedom Party, which still leads in opinion polls.

“We believe an exception is necessary for Austria for having already fulfilled its obligation. We will discuss that with the European Commission,” Chancellor Christian Kern told reporters after a weekly cabinet meeting. “We will send a letter as quickly as possible and then begin discussions.”

Fewer than 14,500 asylum-seekers have been relocated from Greece and Italy, the first EU countries that many refugees and migrants from the Middle East and Africa set foot in, under the two-year EU plan that was supposed to cover 160,000 people and which expires in September.

“We are of the opinion … that the people in question here already sought an asylum application or arrived in Italy or Greece,” Kern said. “We must check whether we have already fulfilled our quota and discharged our obligation.”

Austria took in roughly 90,000 asylum seekers in 2015, more than 1 percent of its population. More than a million migrants arrived in Germany that year, most of them having passed through Austria after crossing the Balkans from Greece.

Austria has repeatedly called on other EU countries to take their fair share, and has even backed the idea of financial penalties for those that do not…”

  8. Trump AG targets LA over immigration: You better not be a ‘sanctuary city’ or no fed grants for you

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Monday local jurisdictions seeking U.S. Department of Justice grants must first demonstrate they are not sanctuary cities — a threat that could potentially apply to Los Angeles and other local municipalities.

Sessions said jurisdictions must prove they are in compliance with Section 1373 of U.S. Code Title 8, which requires notification of federal officials about the immigration status of people in local custody. The policy was issued under the Barack Obama administration in 2016, but was not enforced.

“The American people know that when cities and states refuse to help enforce immigration laws, our nation is less safe,” Sessions said.

Sessions noted that the Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs and Community Oriented Policing Services expect to issue about $4.1 billion in grants during the current fiscal year. Sessions’ comments were in line with an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in January that threatened to cut off federal funding to sanctuary cities.

The potential financial impact to local jurisdictions deemed to be uncooperative with federal immigration authorities was not immediately clear. The city of Los Angeles received $1.4 million from the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program this fiscal year, according to the Justice Department’s website.

  10. ‘We Welcome Immigrants’: Emanuel Defends Chicago’s Sanctuary Status After Sessions Warns of Funding Cuts

After Attorney General Jeff Sessions reiterated the federal government’s threat to block funding for so-called “sanctuary cities,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel doubled down on his own promise that Chicago will “continue to welcome” immigrants.

“I’ve always seen Chicago as a welcoming city,” Emanuel said in an interview from the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York on Monday.

Chicago Mayor: ‘We Are Going to Stay a Sanctuary City’

“It welcomed my grandfather 100 years ago, we continue to welcome entrepreneurs, immigrants, and I would just say think of it this way: Half the new businesses in Chicago and the state of Illinois come from immigrants, nearly half,” he added. “Half the patents at the University of Illinois come from immigrants, and so we want to continue to welcome people, welcome their ideas, welcome their families to the city of Chicago, who want to build the American dream for their children and their grandchildren.”

    • NYC vows to fight for sanctuary status

Municipal leaders nationwide vowed to defy any crackdown on sanctuary cities after a warning from Attorney General Jeff Sessions that they could lose federal money for refusing to cooperate with immigration authorities and suggested the government would come after grand money that has already been awarded if they don’t comply.

“We are going to become this administration’s worst nightmare,” said New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, who was among officials gathered in New York for a small conference that attracted officials from cities including San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Philadelphia and New York.

“A Nigerian woman held at Britain’s most infamous immigration detention center has pleaded with the authorities not to send her back to her home country, where her ex-husband is allegedly waiting to kill her.

The unnamed mother-of-four, who came to Britain seeking asylum after being persecuted in Nigeria for being a lesbian, shared details of her ordeal with Detained Voices ahead of her scheduled deportation next week.

“I claimed asylum which was refused because of my sexuality. I am a lesbian which is not ok in Nigeria,” the woman said.

“Last week my friend called from Nigeria, she is looking after my four children in Nigeria. My ex-husband called her, he is trying to take my children away from her. She has been forced to leave their home with my children.

“My ex-husband said he knows I am being deported next week. He is waiting for me. He is planning to kill me.”

“A top German MP has slammed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling him a “terrorism Godfather” and accusing him of pursuing a Third Reich-style foreign policy. The outburst follows Ankara’s Nazi-themed taunts over a ban on Turkish rallies in Germany.

“Turkey’s foreign policy priorities… are reminiscent of the Third Reich,” said Sahra Wagenknecht, head of the German Left Party’s parliamentary faction, speaking to other MPs in the Bundestag.

“Namely, it seeks to install [Turkish] minorities in other countries in order to pursue [Turkey’s] own violence-based policy, own geopolitics as well as its own policy of suppression there.”

She also referred to the Turkish president as a “terrorist Godfather.”

“This is a call for terrorism. Here speaks a terrorist, as simple as that,” Wagenknecht said, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Wagenknecht was addressing recent remarks by Erdogan, who last week threatened that Europeans would find themselves in danger unless the EU abandoned its policy of allegedly suppressing Turkish political activism.

“If you continue to behave like this, tomorrow in no part of the world, no European, no Westerner will be able to take steps on the street safely and peacefully,” the Turkish leader said last Thursday, as cited by Deutsche Welle…”

  13. NoHo school budget cuts due to high white student percentage sparks outrag

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) —
Outrage has grown at Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, as the school faces layoffs and increased class sizes due to a law limiting funds for schools with a higher white student body.

The Los Angeles Unified School District provides more funding for schools where the white population is below 30 percent.

In a letter to parents, the district noted the highly regarded middle school had been above the percentage for the past couple years.

The racial formula was a condition imposed by court decisions dealing with desegregation in the 1970s.

PARIS/BEIJING (Reuters) – French police said on Tuesday they opened an inquiry after a Chinese man was shot dead by police at his Paris home, triggering rioting in the French capital by members of the Chinese community and a sharp reaction from Beijing.

The shooting on Sunday, which led China’s foreign ministry to call in a French diplomat, brought about a 100 members of the French-Chinese community on to the streets in Paris’s main Chinatown district on Monday night.

Some protesters threw projectiles outside the district’s police headquarters and a number of vehicles were torched in a confrontation with riot police.

Media reports said a 56-year-old man of Chinese origin was shot dead at his home on Sunday night in front of his family after police were called to investigate an altercation with a neighbor.

Police said the man attacked police with scissors, adding that an inquiry had been opened. The man’s family, according to media reports, denied this and some media said he was holding scissors because he had been cutting fish.

Police said they questioned 35 people after Monday’s street protests and three members of the police were treated for slight injuries, they said.

  17. Top national news organizations increase security for employees

    — SCOOP: NEWSROOMS UP SECURITY — Some national news organizations have recently increased their security for employees as tensions continue to run hot toward the media. In recent months, the Washington Post has increased security at its downtown D.C. HQ, with both more security at the door and more security guards walking around the newsroom during the day. In the past few weeks, McClatchy Newspapers’ DC bureau has begun requiring employees to swipe their key cards to access their floor in their downtown D.C. building (which also houses the WSJ) — they also have locked the doors to get into the newsroom once people reach their floor, according to a source familiar with the building.

“We upgraded security from essentially nothing to something consistent with other news organizations in Washington. It wasn’t in response to a specific threat. It’s simply general acknowledgement of the environment in which we all work,” Kristin Roberts, executive editor of McClatchy Washington, told us. CNN, which had already ramped up security after the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris, has stepped up its security following an increasing number of threats against reporters and anchors, according to a source familiar with the network’s plans. WaPo and CNN declined to comment.

  18. Trump to sign order sweeping away Obama-era climate policies

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Tuesday to undo a slew of Obama-era climate change regulations that his administration says is hobbling oil drillers and coal miners, a move environmental groups have vowed to take to court.

The decree’s main target is former President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan, requiring states to slash carbon emissions from power plants – a critical element in helping the United States meet its commitments to a global climate change accord reached by nearly 200 countries in Paris in 2015.

The so-called “Energy Independence” order will also reverse a ban on coal leasing on federal lands, undo rules to curb methane emissions from oil and gas production, and reduce the weight of climate change and carbon emissions in policy and infrastructure permitting decisions.

“We’re going to go in a different direction,” a senior White House official told reporters ahead of Tuesday’s order. “The previous administration devalued workers with their policies. We can protect the environment while providing people with work.”

The wide-ranging order is the boldest yet in Trump’s broader push to cut environmental regulation to revive the drilling and mining industries, a promise he made repeatedly during the presidential campaign. But energy analysts and executives have questioned whether the moves will have a big effect on their industries, and environmentalists have called them reckless.

  19. China able to deploy warplanes on artificial islands any time: U.S. think tank

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – China appears to have largely completed major construction of military infrastructure on artificial islands it has built in the South China Sea and can now deploy combat planes and other military hardware there at any time, a U.S. think tank said on Monday.

The Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI), part of Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies, said the work on Fiery Cross, Subi and Mischief Reefs in the Spratly Islands included naval, air, radar and defensive facilities.

The think tank cited satellite images taken this month, which its director, Greg Poling, said showed new radar antennae on Fiery Cross and Subi.

“So look for deployments in the near future,” he said.

China has denied U.S. charges that it is militarizing the South China Sea, although last week Premier Li Keqiang said defense equipment had been placed on islands in the disputed waterway to maintain “freedom of navigation.”

China’s Defense Ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Tuesday she was unaware of the details of the think tank’s report, but added the Spratly Islands were China’s inherent territory.

ANKARA (Reuters) – Turkey was warning Europe not to interfere in a referendum next month on changing the constitution and expanding President Tayyip Erdogan’s powers, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Tuesday, adding Europe should “mind its own business”.

The issue of the referendum has already badly strained relations between Turkey and several European countries, including Germany and the Netherlands, after they banned Turkish ministers from campaigning in their cities ahead of the April 16 referendum.

  22. Left launches hyperbole war over news of Trump rollback of Obama energy regs
By Ben Bowles March 28, 2017

The sky is falling, fallinger, fallingest.

In advance of the president’s signing a new executive order Tuesday that rescinds some of Barack Obama’s sillier climate regulations, including concerns about the “social cost” of greenhouse gases, the Left has gone into full-bore hyperbole.

In an article published this morning, Politico defiled the order as a “sweeping directive telling agencies to stop trying to reduce the carbon pollution of electric utilities, oil and gas drillers and coal miners.” Former EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy also sounded the alarm, accusing the Trump administration of wanting “us to travel back to when smokestacks damaged our health and polluted our air, instead of taking every opportunity to support clean jobs of the future.”

Democrats in Congress added their two cents. On Monday, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) painted a fanciful gloom-and-doom picture for Politico:

  23. Are you a proleptic dhimmi? Take the test
    By J.E. Dyer March 27, 2017

You will quickly understand the concept of proleptic dhimmitude, I promise. What is worth much more than its weight in gold is going through the thought process behind it. Proleptic dhimmitude explains a great deal about the state of Western civilization as a whole today. It applies to more than a person’s attitude toward Islam.

In fact, proleptic dhimmitude is the attitude we are increasingly bludgeoned into cultivating toward the shibboleths of left-progressive politics. Proleptic dhimmitude isn’t just a robe assumed for ceremonial (or defensive) occasions. It is a way of being.

Dr. Richard Landes, recently a professor at Boston University who now works as a historian in Jerusalem, has a superb post out today at his blog, The Augean Stables. In it, he provides his definition of “proleptic dhimmitude” (which I believe he coined), and offers a very illuminating exercise for detecting it in yourself.

Let’s go right to the definition:

I define proleptic dhimmitude as taking on the requirements of dhimmitude in anticipation of Muslim rule. Thus, appeasing Muslim demands for dhimmi behavior before there is any conquest (the normal conditions for imposing dhimmitude). In this case the key (initial) demand, is that infidel show respect for triumphalist Muslims and not criticize them, or their religion. That according to Sharia, is blasphemy, like the Danish Cartoons.

  25. Hungary Refuses to Take 5,000 Migrants From Sweden

Hungary has refused a request by the Swedish government to take in 5,000 asylum seekers, and the Swedes want to take the matter to court.

The Hungarian government has long held a position against the redistribution of migrants from other European countries going as far as holding a referendum on the subject last October. But Sweden is insisting that under European Union (EU) Dublin agreement rules, the migrants should be returned to the Central European country where they first registered, Svenska Dagbladet reports.

Swedish Immigration and Justice Minister Morgan Johansson met with EU migration and asylum Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos in Brussels Monday to discuss the issue. After the meeting, Mr. Johansson said: “It is the Commission’s responsibility to ensure that contracts are kept, and this is our opinion that Hungary did not follow the Dublin rules.”

“We have almost 5,000 cases where people are registered as asylum seekers in Hungary, but Hungary does not receive them when we send them back,” he added, claiming the EU Commission had a “duty” to open a case against Hungary for infringement of the Dublin agreement.

The case is not the first time a country has tried to send back migrants who registered in Hungary. In September last year, the Austrian government attempted to return migrants but were refused at the Hungarian border.

Austrian Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka commented at the time saying: “The European Union is in charge of … Dublin and states or groups of states that permanently break the law have to expect legal consequences.”

According to the Dublin agreement, asylum seekers are supposed to stay in the country where they first applied for asylum. During the height of the migrant crisis in 2015, the majority of migrants who had registered in Greece or Hungary left both countries to travel to Germany and Sweden which provide robust welfare programmes and have more successful economies.

Greece has also found itself in a similar position to Hungary with Germany announcing several months ago that it would seek to send migrants back to Greece starting in March. The Greek government has already complained that they cannot handle the migrants already in the country and are seeking help from the bloc.

The recent diplomatic row with Turkey could exacerbate issues in Greece following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an asserting the migrant deal between his country and the EU was over, and the political bloc could “forget about” it.

  26. Sessions: Shield Illegals, Lose $4 Billion
President Trump is following through with his promise to restore law and order in seditious sanctuary cities.
    March 28, 2017
    Matthew Vadum

The Trump administration is moving forward with cutting off federal law enforcement grants to local governments that shield illegal aliens, especially violent felons, from federal immigration authorities, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said yesterday.

The attorney general’s announcement came as local officials and open-borders advocates from across America met in Manhattan to devise new ways to frustrate immigration enforcement. The two-day conference, sponsored by the George Soros-funded website Think Progress, was organized by the unhinged leftist, New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito (D). Earlier this month she accused President Trump of “ethnic cleansing” for wanting to remove illegal aliens from the country.

The so-called sanctuary movement is a key component of today’s left-wing activist repertoire. Its supporters are the soft-headed souls who carry protest signs emblazoned with the red-herring of a slogan “no human being is illegal” and who apply all the usual smear-adjectives – including racist, xenophobic, and Islamophobic – to anyone who supports having secure borders. The movement gave illegal aliens permission to rob, rape, and murder Americans by, among other things, stigmatizing immigration enforcement.

Some left-wingers use the dreadful euphemism “civil liberties safe zones” to describe sanctuary jurisdictions. The phrase blurs the distinction between citizens and non-citizens by implying illegal aliens somehow possess a civil right to be present in the U.S.

  27. The Triangle of Moscow, Tehran and Jerusalem
Russia finds itself having to make a choice between Iran and Israel.
    March 28, 2017
    Joseph Puder

Earlier this month, Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Moscow for a meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. In a statement prior to his meeting with Putin, Netanyahu praised the Russian leader for his contribution and the significant progress made in the fight against the radical Sunni Islamic terrorism of the Islamic State (IS) and Al Qaida. The thrust of Netanyahu’s statement was that Israel does not want to see radical Sunni jihadist terrorism replaced by Iran’s radical Shiite terrorism.

Russia finds itself being pursued by two bitter enemies: Iran and Israel. Russia has clearly staked its credibility, and invested its resources including its air-power, in keeping its ally, President Bashar Assad of Syria, in power. Iran likewise, has a stake in keeping an ally (Bashar Assad) who happens to be a member of the Alawi sect (a Shiite breakaway sect), a minority among Syria’s Sunni majority, in power. Tehran is also seeking to maintain its controlling influence in Damascus (Syria), and Beirut (in addition to the more remote Baghdad and Sanaa), both which border the Jewish state.

For Israel, however, Iran’s meddling in Syria and its efforts to establish itself on the border of Israel, through its terrorist-client Hezbollah, poses a serious if not an existential threat. Avi Dichter, the chair of Israel’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said Iran had tried several times in the past to move forces into the Golan Heights, next to territory that Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war. Netanyahu has said that Israel has carried out dozens of strikes to prevent weapons smuggling to the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah via Syria. Two years ago, Israel and Russia agreed to coordinate military actions over Syria in order to avoid accidentally trading fire.

  28. Islamism’s Culture War Sets Sight on Multi-Billion Dollar Beauty Industry

As 2016 drew to a close, many people were on the edge of their seats after a defining presidential election between one choice (Clinton) who stood for the status quo and the other (Trump), seen as the harbinger of a resolute victory against radical Islam. For many Muslims, there was a third choice. Unanchored to the changing tides of elections, the long game of Western Muslims who are averse to Western values was largely unaffected by an altered political landscape. They had transitioned to a new arena: culture.

In 2016, the élite fashion label Dolce and Gabbana launched an “Abaya and Hijab Collection.” Months later, at New York Fashion Week, a sartorial Mecca, hosted the first catwalk spotlighting models fully donned in hijabs.

Islamist influence is now using Western culture to solidify Islamist values in society’s more coveted circles: fashion and beauty.

  29. White Liberals Attack Brown Islamic Dissidents

The French daily Le Figaro captured the tragic condition of Muslim dissidents: “Seen as ‘traitors’ by their communities, they are accused by the elites in the West of ‘stigmatizing'”.

Le Point called it “the malediction of the dissident”: “For the European left, a bright danger threatens humanity. This is not terrorism or religious fundamentalism. But dissident intellectuals in the Muslim world”.

This is the meaning of a recent list of fifteen “anti-Islamic extremists,” published by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Among them are, for example, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former member of the Dutch parliament and the most famous dissident from Islamic world, and Maajid Nawaz, a British Muslim who founded the Quilliam Foundation to fight radicalism, and who has been a consultant to Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and David Cameron.

  32. John Brennan and Baltic Spies Teamed Up to Defeat Trump

They both had a political motivation to smear him.

The origin of the Obama administration’s investigation of imaginary Trump-Russia collusion remains murky, but this much is clear: John Brennan, Obama’s Trump-hating CIA director, stands at the center of it.

Brennan pushed for a multi-agency investigation of the Trump campaign, using as his pretext alleged intelligence from an unnamed Baltic state. That “intelligence” was supplied at the very moment Baltic officials had their own political motivation to smear Trump.

“Last April, the CIA director was shown intelligence that worried him. It was – allegedly – a tape recording of a conversation about money from the Kremlin going into the US presidential campaign. It was passed to the US by an intelligence agency of one of the Baltic States,” reported the BBC’s Paul Wood.

Is it just a coincidence that Brennan got this tape recording from a Baltic State intelligence agency in April when officials in the Baltic States were up in arms over candidate Trump? Recall that in March of 2016 — the month before Brennan allegedly got the recording from Baltic spies — Trump made remarks about NATO that the press was hyping as hostile to the Baltic States.

To CNN, on March 21, Trump said, referring to the need to re-think America’s relationship with NATO:

We’re paying disproportionately. It’s too much. And frankly it’s a different world than it was when we originally conceived of the idea. And everybody got together.

  33. (Richard: This is a good warning of what is coming but I disagree with the man when he says their isn’t a Churchill this time. There are several who have stepped up but as with Churchill in the 30s they are being vilified and condemned.)

    The Gathering Storm

    Larry Alex Taunton

Except this time, there’s not a Churchill in sight.

In a 1934 speech before the House of Commons, Winston Churchill said this:

“Germany is arming fast, and no one is going to stop her. I dread the day when the means of threatening the heart of the British Empire should pass into the hands of the present rulers of Germany … I dread that day, but it is not, perhaps, far distant.”

For this he was called a “warmonger.” But Churchill was, we now know, prophetic.

The days in which we live are not so different from the 1930s. In Islamic fundamentalism the West faces the greatest threat to its existence since the Second World War. And like those times, we are sleep walking through it. Not only do Western leaders — and even the Pope — refuse to acknowledge the causal link between Islam and terrorism, they have become facilitators of terrorism through the sheer idiocy of unrestricted mass immigration policies. In so doing, they have casually endangered and sacrificed the lives of the citizens they are sworn to protect — all for the sake of a utopian social experiment.

In the 1930s, it was chiefly persecution of the Jews that went ignored by Western media and governments. Today it is not only the Jewish people, but Christians most of all.

According to the Spectator (UK), “80 percent of all acts of religious discrimination in the world today are directed at Christians. Statistically speaking, that makes Christians by far the most persecuted religious body on the planet…. In effect, the world is witnessing the rise of an entirely new generation of Christian martyrs. The carnage is occurring on such a vast scale that it represents not only the most dramatic Christian story of our time, but arguably the premier human rights challenge of this era as well.”

  34. U.S. Can Reduce Russia’s Ability to Fund Military Expansion

    Frank Vernuccio | On March 27, 2017

Russia’s energy sales have a direct impact on its military buildup. Increasing the supply of energy on the global marketplace by opening up U.S. federal lands to energy exploitation would reduce the amount of funds Putin could devote to his growing weapons programs.

A National Interest study noted that

…the rearmament plan announced by President Vladimir Putin was to be funded from the golden river that was generated by the taxes on energy exports that had helped to fill the Kremlin’s coffers.”

The Wall Street Journal concurs. In an article last March, it reported that

Russian defense procurement will drop by about 10% this year as low oil and gas prices drain income from the state budget, according to the powerful head of the conglomerate that controls the key pieces of Russia’s military-industrial complex. Sergei Chemezov, chief executive of the Russian state industrial holding Rostec-the maker of weapons including Kalashnikov assault rifles and Pantsir antiaircraft systems-said he expected the Russian defense sector to contend with a decrease in government orders. ‘Oil and gas prices aren’t as high as desired, and they’re the main source of income for the budget,’ said Mr. Chemezov. ‘So, of course, it’s completely understandable that there is a reduction in defense orders.

Russia subsequently suffered when energy prices fell, but it is now seeking to return to a more prosperous mode by conspiring with other energy producing nations to limit production to increase prices. The United States has the capacity to counter this by opening up federal lands to energy exploitation. This additional source of energy would diminish Russia’s income, affecting its ability to finance its massive arms buildup and international adventurism. It would free Europe from its dependence on Moscow’s energy supplies, and reduce the Kremlin’s influence on the continent.

    http://affluentinvestor.com/2017/03/u-s-can-reduce-russias-ability-fund-military-expansion/

    • This would help the US, reduce the money Putin has to spend and by selling to Europe at a lower price help our European allies. President Trump will probably like this idea, the left won’t, and even if it doesn’t come about the threat is a real big bargaining chip for President Trump when he is dealing with Putin.

        • That it will but I think that it can be used as a bargaining point with Putin to hold things semi steady until it really hits the fan.

  35. Montreal Trudeau airport employees potentially radicalized: report claims

Airport security jumped into the spotlight after J.E., TVA network’s investigative unit, reported that four employees at the Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport had their security clearance scaled back on suspicion of being radicalized.

According to the TVA network, some employees have visited propaganda sites of the so-called Islamic State group.

They have also allegedly been accessing documents on the Internet on the use of weapons and explosives.

The reports claimed at least one employee had security clearance that allowed the individual to be on the tarmac.

J.E. also said three of the employees have profiles that Montreal police consider worrisome.

Two of the four employees still work at the airport but have been reassigned.

Two other employees had their security cards confiscated because authorities were concerned over their mental well-being.

Montreal’s anti-radicalization centre’s research manager Benjamin Ducol said it’s not surprising to find radicalized employees in airports, airlines, railways, and electrical sectors.

Ducol also added the centre has worked with the Montreal airport in the past.

“We [have been in contact with the airport] to train the organization to be better-equipped to face radicalization situations,” Ducol said. “We make sure that they deal with the radicalization situation, not just from a security point of view. They also have to look at it from a long-term perspective and be able to recognize in their employees when they are being drawn into radicalization and how to address it.

Security expert Claude Sarrazin said the airport appears to be taking the necessary steps to contain the security threat.

According to Sarrazin, containing security threats is more complicated than simply firing the employees because they also have labour rights.

“There’s a fine line to cross that is very tempting to cross, but we have to be careful how we cross, and when we cross it,” Sarrazin said. “We can push the envelope to a certain level but the courts will bring us back. If that person is re-instated in his job, that means we didn’t do our jobs well.”

Sarrazin also added that security threats are nothing new to the airport, and authorities have procedures in place to prevent attacks.

“The question is going to be, ‘How did they get hired in the first place?’” Sarrazin said. “Did they get radicalized before employment or during employment, which changes the purview of the investigation.”

Employees at Montreal’s Trudeau airport potentially radicalized: reports

Four employees at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport had their access levels scaled back for precautionary reasons as officials looked into the possibility they had been radicalized, according to a report by the Journal de Montréal.

Aéroports de Montréal, the company that manages the airport, could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

The Journal de Montréal reports that of the four employees, at least two who still work at the airport have shown signs of radicalization that police investigators consider worrisome. Some visited pro-ISIL websites, published propaganda on social media and consulted an abnormal number of documents explaining how to make homemade explosives, the Journal says.

One employee, who had access to the airport’s runways and airplanes, made comments about the November 2015 Paris attacks that killed 130 people.

The report suggests the employees either don’t work for the airport anymore or have been reassigned to positions far from the runway and airplanes.

  36. Refugee language programs ‘wasteful,’ say German auditors (DW, Mar 28, 2017)
    http://www.dw.com/en/refugee-language-programs-wasteful-say-german-auditors/a-38155415

“In an internal government showdown, the German National Audit Office has accused the Federal Labor Agency of wasting money. The labor office countered the critique, saying it was based on an impossibly short timeframe.

The German National Audit Office’s (BRH) critical audit report described extensive shortfalls in both the execution and the financial management of entry level German courses provided to refugees since the end of 2015, a highpoint of the refugee crisis.

German radio broadcaster NDR reported details of the review on Tuesday.

The auditors criticized the Labor agency (BA) for insufficient monitoring, poor learning materials and error-ridden invoices.

On NDR’s “Info” program, BRH president Kay Scheller upbraided the labor agency for their “problematic” lack of specifications when it came to monitoring.

“Without them, their non-fulfillment cannot be retrospectively criticized,” Scheller pointed out.

    Too short to handle

The BA defended itself against the BRH’s criticism, arguing in its response to an NDR statement request that any shortcomings were due to the short, two-month notice the agency had received before the start deadline.

“In order to attract the largest number of educational providers possible, firm specifications relating to content, method, implementation, and teaching qualification requirements were forgone.”
Millions of euros ‘missed the mark’

In particular, the BRH accused the BA of poorly managing the up to 400 million euros provided for the courses. According to NDR, the audit document alleged “that a large part of the implemented funds de-facto missed the mark.”

The BRH also found inconsistencies in financial accounts. Both grants and invoices were duplicated, the BRH report detailed, though the labor agency reclaimed the doubled funds in certain cases.

    Babies as course participants

A further criticism related to how the BA tallied total course participants. Though the provision of entry-level German language courses was aimed at providing “active labor market support,” the BA counted language courses for children up to 13 years of age.

These courses did not have the goal of “conveying the German language to infants and children,” the BA stated in their report.”

“UPDATE: German prosecutors announced an investigation on Tuesday into claims that Turkish agents are spying on alleged followers of exiled preacher Fethullah Gülen in Germany.

The probe came as a German state minister accused Turkey of the “unacceptable” espionage against supporters of Gülen, blamed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for a failed coup attempt last year.

The claims open a new front in the diplomatic row between NATO allies Germany and Turkey, whose relationship has been strained by a series of disputes centred on human rights issues.

“It is clear that the Turkish secret service MIT is investigating people living in Germany,” said Boris Pistorius, interior minister of the northern German state of Lower Saxony, deploring the “intensity and ruthlessness” of Turkey’s pursuit of people living abroad.

“It’s intolerable and unacceptable,” he said at a press conference….”

    https://www.thelocal.no/20170328/islamic-council-norway-hires-woman-in-niqab-as-communications-officer

“Norwegian Muslim umbrella organisation Islamic Council Norway has been criticised for hiring a woman who wears the full face-covering niqab as a communications officer.

Minister for Culture Linda Hofsted Helleland called the move “extremely ill-advised” and members of other parties have also voiced their concern about the appointment.

The appointment of 32-year-old Leyla Hasic as an administrative consultant by Islamic Council Norway (Islamsk Råd Norge, IRN) comes soon after the Ministry of Culture (Kulturdepartementet) granted almost half a million kroner ($58 million) to help the organisation with initiatives aimed at improving dialogue between Muslim communities and the rest of society, reports news media Klassekampen.

But Minister for Culture Helleland wrote in a Facebook post that the appointment by the council would “create distance and less understanding”.

“Freedom of religion is strong in Norwegian society, and it will continue to be so. It therefore takes a lot for me, as minister of culture, to make statements about internal appointments in independent organisations such as Islamic Council Norway. But here it is important to take a stand!,” wrote Helleland.

Muslim politician Abid Raja of the centrist Liberal (Venstre) party was also critical of IRN in a statement sent via SMS, reports broadcaster NRK.

“I am deeply disappointed with IRN’s conduct. It is all-advised and undermines the relationship of trust that Muslims themselves are in need of building between themselves and the rest of Norwegian society,” wrote Raja.

According to Hasic’s job description, she will be primarily involved in “communication, application writing and IT maintenance”…”

“Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m has once again slammed the opposition for arguing against the constitutional amendment to be voted in a referendum on April 16.

“Those who want to replace the national will; who have planned the July 15, 2016 coup; December 17-25; the Gezi events; September 12, 1980; and March 12, 1960; will be expired, they are taking their place in the garbage of history,” Y?ld?r?m said at a rally in the Central Anatolian province of Karaman on March 28, referring to major events in Turkish political history such as the 1960 and 1980 military coups, the nationwide Gezi protests in 2013, and a major corruption case targeting government officials between Dec. 17 and 25, 2013.

Criticizing opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal K?l?çdaro?lu for arguing against the charter, Y?ld?r?m said he was lying.

“K?l?çdaro?lu is opposing the charter because he does not have a goal to be in charge by working his way up by himself,” he said.

“He tells 40 lies at once. Which one should I correct? Let him be, and we should mind our own business. They are like a diffused bomb,” he added.

“With the new system, the uncertainty will be lifted. There will be no such thing as a dispute between the president and the prime minister because the system is changing, the presidential system is coming. You will decide on the power at the ballot,” he said, avidly supporting the new system that will be brought in by the changes if the “yes” votes prevail.

“The governments will not be brought down by newspaper headlines. Politics cannot be played by lawmaker transfers, and the vote of confidence will be given by the public, not by the parliament. Not the lawmakers, the public themselves will give it at the ballot. You will do,” he said.

“What they want is to continue with the 1982 model constitution despite all the negative aspects of it, to protect it so that no one could touch it. Because the constitution, as it is now, is a nice tool to block public will,” he said.”

“President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has slammed German daily Bild for running a bilingual headline saying “Atatürk would have said ‘no’” to proposed charter amendments that will vastly increase the president’s powers, saying Atatürk would have said “yes” because “he lived in a state that we would like to bring in.”

“On what ground have they said such a thing? Do they have the ability to read the memories of Atatürk? What does it have to do with Atatürk?” Erdo?an said in a joint televised interview on private TV channels ShowTV, HaberTürk TV and Bloomberg HT late on March 27.

“Now, I would say, on the contrary, that if Atatürk were to rise again, he would say ‘yes’ to the regulation we have prepared because he, himself, lived with such [a system],” he added.

“Atatürk did what we want to do. Why? He could not even get along with ?smet ?nönü who was his fellow worker,” he said.

His comments came after Bild published an article saying that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, would have voted against the constitutional amendment charter if he were alive. The article was published with the headline: “Referendum in Turkey: Atatürk would say ‘no,’” in both German and Turkish…”
