North Korea says missiles were drill for strike on US bases
Nuclear-armed North Korea said Tuesday its missile launches were training for a strike on US bases in Japan, as global condemnation of the regime swelled.
Three of the four missiles fired Monday came down provocatively close to US ally Japan, in waters that are part of its exclusive economic zone, representing a challenge to US President Donald Trump.
In separate phone calls, Trump — whose rhetoric on the campaign trail had raised doubts about the issue — reaffirmed Washington’s “ironclad commitment” to Japan and South Korea.
The US will demonstrate to Pyongyang that there were “very dire consequences” for its actions, the White House said in a statement.
The United Nations Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting for Wednesday after a request by Washington and Tokyo to discuss additional measures following the launch.
Under UN resolutions, Pyongyang is barred from any use of ballistic missile technology, and the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, said on Twitter that the world “won’t allow” North Korea to continue on its “destructive path”.

North Korea warns of ‘actual war’, U.S. calls it ‘pariah’
GENEVA (Reuters) – North Korea faced a chorus of condemnation on Tuesday for its latest ballistic missile tests but declared that ongoing joint U.S.-South Korea military exercises were aimed at conducting a “pre-emptive nuclear attack” against Pyongyang.
Ju Yong Choi, a North Korean diplomat, told the U.N.-sponsored Conference on Disarmament in Geneva that the annual drills were “a major cause of escalation of tension that might turn into actual war” on the divided Korean peninsula.
“The ongoing joint military exercise is carried out with massive mobilization of troops, unprecedented in size, and various types of U.S. strategic forces including nuclear carriers, nuclear strategic bombers and Stealth fighters,” Ju told the 61-member forum.
“It will certainly jeopardize peace and stability in the region and drive the situation in the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war,” he said.
During the stormy 90-minute session, envoys from more than a dozen countries, including North Korea’s main ally China, as well as Britain, France, Russia and the United States, condemned North Korea’s test-firing of four ballistic missiles on Monday.

It includes software that could allow people to take control of the most popular consumer electronics products used today, claimed WikiLeaks.
“‘Year Zero’ introduces the scope and direction of the CIA’s global covert hacking program, its malware arsenal and dozens of “zero day” weaponized exploits against a wide range of U.S. and European company products, include Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows and even Samsung TVs, which are turned into covert microphones,” the organisation said in a release.
The public files don’t include the cyber weapons themselves, according to a statement. The organisation will refrain from distributing “armed” software “until a consensus emerges on the technical and political nature of the CIA’s program and how such ‘weapons’ should analyzed, disarmed and published”, it said.
The files were made available by a source who intended them to start a conversation about whether the CIA had gained too much power, according to the organisation.
“In a statement to WikiLeaks the source details policy questions that they say urgently need to be debated in public, including whether the CIA’s hacking capabilities exceed its mandated powers and the problem of public oversight of the agency,” a release read. “The source wishes to initiate a public debate about the security, creation, use, proliferation and democratic control of cyberweapons.”
The organisation had teased the release in advance with strange messages about the release being “Year Zero”, and references to “Vault 7”. It had planned to release the files later on but that plan was thrown off when its press conference came under cyber attack, Mr Assange claimed.

Democrat super-lobbyist Tony Podesta was paid $170,000 over a six-month period last year to represent Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, seeking to end one of the Obama administration’s economic sanctions against that country, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group has learned.
Podesta, founder and chairman of the Podesta Group, is listed as a key lobbyist on behalf of Sberbank, according to Senate lobbying disclosure forms. His firm received more than $24 million in fees in 2016, much of it coming from foreign governments, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
Podesta is the brother of John Podesta, who was the national campaign chairman for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s losing 2016 campaign for the presidency. Former President Barack Obama imposed the sanctions following the Russian seizure of the Crimean region of Ukraine in 2014.
The lobbying campaign targeted Congress and the executive branch, with Podesta and other lobbyists arranging at least two meetings between Sberbank officers and Department of State officials, according to Elena Teplitskaya, Sberbank’s board chairman, who spoke to House aides in August.

“Hungary approved plans on Tuesday to detain migrants in camps on its border, state news agency MTI said, a step which the United Nations said violates European Union law and will have a “terrible physical and psychological impact” on asylum seekers.
The measures, passed by parliament, will also tighten controls on Hungary’s border, which has been a focal point of Europe’s migration crisis since 2015.
The southern border with Serbia marks the external frontier of the EU’s passport-free Schengen area, and hundreds of thousands of people have crossed into the country.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban sought to justify the move, saying Hungary had to act to defend itself and describing the influx of migrants – many of them fleeing conflict in the Middle East and Africa – as a “Trojan horse for terrorism”.
Orban’s chief of staff said last month that Hungary planned two or three camps along its southern border, where migrants will be kept while their applications for asylum are processed.
Migrants whose applications are not immediately approved will not be allowed to move freely around Hungary but will be detained in camps that they can only leave outward, toward Serbia, according to the bill approved by parliament.
UNHCR spokeswoman Cécile Pouilly said that would effectively condemn asylum seekers, including children, to prolonged detention in shipping containers surrounded by barbed wire.
Expanding an 8-kilometre (5-mile) zone along the border where summary expulsions have been the practice since last summer, police can now detain illegal migrants anywhere in the country and return them to the Serbian border to be expelled.
“Nobody can step onto Hungarian or European Union soil without a permit,” interior minister Sandor Pinter said in the bill.
In a speech to newly appointed border guards on Tuesday, Orban described a country under siege.

The law was passed with 138 yes votes to only 6 no votes.

The Trump administration should WITHDRAW the U.S. from the Council.
The U.N. “Human Rights” Council starts its main annual session on Monday in Geneva with elected members and human-rights aficionados such as Saudi Arabia, China, and Qatar settling into their seats. The question hanging over the head of President Trump is whether his administration will take its place beside these other states and legitimize the most anti-Israel, twisted bastion of moral relativism in the U.N. system.
Barack Obama deliberately designed a quicksand trap before leaving office. He put the U.S. forward for Human Rights Council membership in a U.N. election that occurred just ten days before the American presidential election. Attempting to rule from the grave, Obama knew full well that the U.S. would be occupying a three-year spot that officially commenced on January 1, 2017. The Bush administration had refused to join the Council, or to pay for it, when the Council was first created as a faux renovation of the discredited U.N. Human Rights Commission back in 2006. Joining the Council was one of Obama’s very first foreign-policy moves in 2009.
The only way out of the quagmire for the Trump administration, therefore, is to resign.

There is a permanent agenda of ten items that governs proceedings at every UNHRC session. One agenda item is devoted to human-rights violations by Israel, and one generic agenda item is for all other 192 UN member states that might be found to “require the Council’s attention.” In classic State Department double-talk, the Obama administration promised that by joining the Council [in 2009], the U.S. could reform its agenda from the inside. The Obama administration tried and predictably failed. But it then justified staying on the Council—despite back-of-the-bus treatment of the Jewish state—as a price worth paying for other people’s human rights. . . .
Staying on the UNHRC means paying for it. A 2016 Council resolution calls for the creation of a blacklist of all companies that are connected to or do business with so-called Israeli settlements “directly or indirectly.” Not surprisingly, the Council has no comparable boycott scheme for the world’s most heinous regimes. . . . .
The current UNHRC session will reaffirm the blacklist initiative, and various other regular absurdities, such as demanding a return of the Golan Heights to “the Syrian motherland” so as better to protect Syrian human rights. In light of the Council’s composition, there is no chance whatsoever of reversing the outcomes. Merely to whine while being outvoted by a majority of states . . . would legitimize the vehicle attacking American corporations for doing business with Israel—and [America’s] fundamental principles.
Substituting a Human Rights “Council” for a Human Rights “Commission” that retains the same fatal flaws — starting with membership for the quintessential very bad dudes — is the classic example of what the U.N., and the Obama administration, have meant by “reform.” Will the Trump administration follow suit and make yet another speech about fixing the unfixable?

The FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance) Court is in the news this weekend after President Trump tweeted that former President Obama had petitioned a court twice in order to wire tap current President Trump when he was running for office.[…]
The FISA Court was put in place in 1978 when Congress enacted the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA):
The Court sits in Washington D.C., and is composed of eleven federal district court judges who are designated by the Chief Justice of the United States. Each judge serves for a maximum of seven years and their terms are staggered to ensure continuity on the Court. By statute, the judges must be drawn from at least seven of the United States judicial circuits, and three of the judges must reside within 20 miles of the District of Columbia. Judges typically sit for one week at a time, on a rotating basis.
Pursuant to FISA, the Court entertains applications submitted by the United States Government for approval of electronic surveillance, physical search, and other investigative actions for foreign intelligence purposes. Most of the Court’s work is conducted ex parte as required by statute, and due to the need to protect classified national security information.
Every single judge on the FISA Court as of today was appointed during Obama’s Presidency!
Five of the current eleven judges on the court are scheduled to be on the court for President Trump’s entire first term with six of the judges’ terms expiring before January 2021. Seven of the judges are scheduled into the year 2020.
Current Chief Justice John Roberts has been in his role since 2005 and therefore he has appointed all the judges to the FISA court. Judge Roberts is famous for supporting Obamacare in two radical positions, one of which Justice Antonin Scalia, in his withering dissent, refered to as “applesauce”. Knowing this, it is concerning that Judge Roberts also is responsible for the makeup of the current FISA court.
Only two in over 10,000 applications were turned down by the FISA Court.

More than a thousand applications for electronic surveillance, all signed by the attorney general, are submitted each year, and the vast majority are approved. From 2009 to 2015, for example, more than 10,700 applications for electronic surveillance were submitted, and only one was denied in its entirety, according to annual reports sent to Congress. Another one was denied in part, and 17 were withdrawn by the government.
According to ABC, all applications to the FISA Court were signed off on by the Attorney General and therefore if any applications were processed in the past year, they were signed off on by Loretta Lynch. This means that Lynch signed off on any requests for wire tapping President Donald Trump during the Presidential race. This is disheartening knowing that she released a video over the weekend calling for the need for more marching, blood and death on the streets. This also means that she chose not to investigate the Clinton Foundation for illegal activities but rather signed an application to wire tap President Trump.
Finally, another very disturbing fact about the wire tapping request of President Trump is that the FISA Court turned down President Obama’s Administration’s first request to wire tap President Trump that was evidently signed off on by Attorney General Lynch. With only two applications denied out of 10,700 from 2009 through 2015, the fact that the Obama Administration’s application was denied by the FISA Court is very disturbing. The odds of this happening were 0.02%.
The Obama Presidency is now arguably the most corrupt in US history.

Last week, the Brochmann Committee, established by the Norwegian government to gauge the long-term effects of immigration, found that the kingdom’s botched integration policy and mass immigration are threatening the very essence of the Norwegian welfare state, the Norwegian daily Aftenposten reported.
Professor Grete Brochmann from the University of Oslo, who heads the eponymous committee, was particularly worried about the fact that immigrants, particularly those with a refugee background, had both lower employment rates and were working fewer hours than the majority population. This left them in the low-income category, and largely dependent on social benefits.
In the report, 28 percent of immigrants and their descendants were found to have persistently low income, compared with 10 percent of the total population, thus putting Norway’s welfare system under extra strain.

Greece seizes amphetamines suspected to be destined for Middle East
Greek authorities have seized more than half a million illegally made amphetamine pills, their largest haul to date and thought to be destined for the Middle East.
Greek police and the Financial Crime Unit (SDOE) said the 635,000 pills, manufactured at an illegal laboratory in an Athens suburb, were ready to be shipped to Turkey.
“The load would have been transferred to Turkey … the final destination was possibly countries in the Middle East,” SDOE drugs division chief Loukas Danabasis told journalists on Monday.
The pills had a street value of about 10 million euros ($10.60 million). It was the first time authorities had discovered locally made versions of the stimulant.
Two Greeks, a Turk and an Albanian national were detained for questioning.

After three months of close surveillance, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the Greek Financial Crime Prosecution Unit (FCPU), in collaboration with the Hellenic Coast Guard and the Hellenic Police, dismantled an international criminal organization that illicitly produced Captagon pills in the area of Loutropyrgos, in Nea Peramos, Attica. The US DEA had given information to the Greek FCPU regarding the activity of the criminal network.
635,000 Captagon pills were confiscated in total; the drug pills would be pushed to Middle East to be widely used by ISIS jihadists. This was the largest quantity of drug pills ever confiscated in Greece and they are now investigating whether any such pills have circulated in the Greek market. The value of the confiscated pills is estimated to approximately 10 million euro. The authorities announced that four people -two Albanians, one Turk and one Greek- were arrested. Another three persons are wanted that is one Turk, one Albanian and one Greek retired police officer.

The Greek financial crime unit (SDOE) released video footage and photos of Greek enforcement agencies raiding a compound in the area of Loutropyrgos, located 30km northwest of Athens, where they confiscated 635,000 amphetamine based pills planned to be shipped to Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq. In a coordinated sting operation between the Attica-Aegean regional Drug Enforcement Unit of the Financial Crimes Unit (SDOE), the Coast Guard and Greek police busted a drug ring which had set up manufacturing labs of a synthetic drug called “Captagon”. It is the largest confiscation of illegal narcotics in the Greek market, the total value of which is estimated to have amounted to 10 million Euros. The Greek authorities informed the press during a briefing that two Albanian nationals, one Turk and a Greek had been arrested during the raid, while three more suspects, a Greek, a Turk and an Albanian are still at large. The illegal labs were located in a detached house in the area of Loutropyrgos, were the pills, which were stashed in a hiding place, would be transported to Koropi. The pills would then be shipped from Koropi to Turkey in speedboats, from where police estimate they would be distributed to the Middle East. Authorities also confiscated a truck and other chemical compounds used to make the drug, as well as a carbine, 5 kilos of cannabis and a hunting rifle.

M-103 has injected a note of hysteria into the Tory leadership race, exactly as the Liberals no doubt intended
To anyone who believes in the unchained expression of ideas, Motion 103 is a sinister piece of work. Pollyanna-sunny, very Canadian, and no doubt brilliant politics, but sinister.
The motion, nominally authored by Liberal backbencher Iqra Khalid, calls on the federal government to condemn “Islamophobia” and all other forms of mean and nasty and racist speech, and, further, to immediately study how to quell hate and fear and generally figure out a way to make Canadians be nicer to each other.
All of which sounds lovely. Captain Kirk ran around the galaxy delivering a similar message to bigoted aliens for years.
But the ability of earthly governments to impose such goals is beyond dubious. Suasion seldom works; society is a stew of prejudice and tribalism, and nobody I know pays the slightest attention to government moralizing.

Even politicians understand that. So, ultimately, there are some, probably including ministers in Justin Trudeau’s cabinet, who will be tempted to accomplish M-103’s stated goals by once again lowering the dead hand of the state on speech.
Then there are the provincial Human Rights commissions, quasi-judicial boards, each with their own set of regulations, out to protect fragile Canadians from speech that injures their “dignity, feelings or self-respect.” These tribunals have teeth, and the ability to force speech offenders to pay damages to the offended.
Ezra Levant, a conservative provocateur, spent years fighting efforts by Muslim groups that dragged him before the Alberta Human Rights Commission for reprinting controversial Danish cartoons that depicted the prophet Mohammed unflatteringly. These cartoons, not really any worse than Monty Python’s lampooning of Jesus Christ in the film Life of Brian, had provoked death and rioting overseas, and were available on the internet.
Levant, editor of the Western Standard at the time, was making a reasonable news judgment, showing people what the uproar was about. Ultimately, the Alberta commission dismissed the complaint, but not before forcing Levant to spend a fortune defending himself.
Defining Islamophobia
At a guess, Khalid and her fellow activists in the Liberal and NDP caucuses would regard those Danish cartoons as Islamophobia, as well as the cartoons that provoked the mass murders at Charlie Hebdo magazine by Muslim fundamentalists in Paris.
In fact, Khalid would almost certainly characterize as Islamophobic any account that dared to describe the Charlie Hebdo murderers as Muslim fundamentalists.
In the Commons, she repeatedly refers to a petition, signed by thousands of Canadians, that demands recognition “that extremist individuals do not represent the religion of Islam, and in condemning all forms of Islamophobia.”
So: would any such recognition foreclose a discussion of the imam at a Toronto mosque who recently treated his congregation to remarks about “the filth of the Jews?” Would it be Islamophobic to ask whether a religious leader, sermonizing in a mosque, in any way represents Islam?
So morally certain are Khalid and her backers (certainly including the Prime Minister’s Office) that they are refusing any changes or amendments to the wording of M-103, including the rather sensible suggestion that “Islamophobia” be at least defined, say, as discrimination against Muslims, which is already illegal.
That is worrying.
Would Khalid’s notion of Islamophobia, for example, prohibit discussion of a question often posed by Israelis and conservatives: Why, if most Muslims are not terrorists, most terrorists appear to be Muslims?
Would Khalid want to suppress any depiction of the prophet Mohammed, which many Sunni Muslims deem offensive?
Would she seek to quell discussion of why Saudi Arabia, a Muslim theocracy and close ally of Canada, recently went much further than Donald Trump, deporting tens of thousands of Pakistanis on the grounds that some might be terrorists?
All those subjects are debatable.
But it is reasonable to ask whether targeting “Islamophobia,” rather than discrimination against Muslims, would eventually forbid debate itself.
The political purpose of M-103, though, is plain: to sucker nativist chumps, none of whom intend to ever vote Liberal or NDP, into racist public tirades. In that, Khalid has succeeded admirably.
She herself has been the target of deeply racist attacks from angry voters. Comment sections of news websites have exploded with warnings of Sharia law and Islamofascism and the terrible threat of immigrants and the dilution of our “Judeo-Christian” culture (Vancouver is a city whose population is about 40 per cent Asian, but never mind).
Falling into the trap
M-103 has also injected a note of hysteria, exactly as the Liberals no doubt intended, into the Tory leadership race, making it difficult for the Conservative party to leave behind its foolish and repudiated election proposals to ban niqabs and establish a tip line for “barbaric cultural practices.”
The Liberals also bet, successfully, that Conservatives taking issue with the term “Islamophobia” would be portrayed in media coverage as mouth-breathing reactionaries, or at least hypocrites, given their forceful push in the past for a parliamentary denunciation of what their members called “the new anti-Semitism.”
The Liberals’ logic was obvious: Trumpian conservatives are feeling ascendant and triumphalist nowadays. Why not encourage them?
If it didn’t have such serious implications for freedom of expression, it would almost be funny.

It’s the Canadian way.
This is not fanciful; Canadians tend to think we enjoy a right to free speech, but we don’t. It’s one of our national myths, probably attributable to our wholesale gorging on literature, media and films from America, where speech enjoys near-total constitutional protection from suppression by government.
Hate speech laws
In Canada, it’s a different story. There is already a remarkable plantation of federal and provincial laws defining and prohibiting offensive speech, and it’s a safe bet the proponents of M-103 are eager to plant even more, even if M-103 is just a parliamentary statement.
Further, Canadians tend to support such measures; they either don’t realize or don’t care that these laws attack free speech; inoffensive speech, after all, doesn’t need protecting.
To review: the Criminal Code bans “hate propaganda,” which has been defined by the Supreme Court as speech “intended or likely to circulate extreme feelings of opprobrium and enmity against a racial or religious group.”
This law is serious: a spokesperson for Stephen Harper’s public safety minister suggested in 2015 it could be used against groups advocating boycott, divestment and sanction of Israel for its occupation of the West Bank.

A former prison psychologist who converted to Islam and married a member of the notorious Skaf gang has been pictured wearing a burqa while out with their child in Sydney.
Joanne Natalie Senior married the member of the Skaf gang – notorious for raping teenagers across Sydney in 2000 – after he was released from prison in 2013.
The 36-year-old will be featured on A Current Affair this week and was seen in a preview for the show wheeling a pram and dodging reporters while wearing a full-length black burqa.
Senior has had two relationships with me from the Skaf gang.
Her husband was one of nine men responsible for a string of gang rapes across Sydney led by Bilal Skaf, which a judge described as ‘worse than murder’.
The 36-year-old married the gang rapist, changed her name to her husband’s and is living with her partner and her parents in western Sydney.
The convicted rapist, who was serving time in Parklea prison, cannot be identified because he was 17 when he raped two girls in 2000.
One was a 13-year-old and another in a separate assault was a 14-year-old committed with one of nine men responsible for the gang rapes across Sydney in 2000.
The Skaf gang member was requested by parole officers to provide the name of his wife to work out if she was an ‘appropriate person’ as a partner for him.
Despite breaking his parole terms in refusing to give out information about his wife – Joanne Natalie Senior – his parole was never revoked, according to a Corrective Services spokeswoman.
The publication claims Senior ran a sex offenders’ program in Parklea prison back in 2010 and 2011.
She began her first relationship with a member of the gang, whose name was suppressed at the time of the Skaf trials because of his mental and intellectual disabilities.
She visited the prisoner 24 times in jail without authorities realising she was an employee, which included organising a special birthday surprise for him.
During this relationship she took his surname, moved in with his mother and engaged in phone sex where she allowed him to call her ‘a sl**’.
The relationship with the man, who is now on parole, came to an end in 2012, before she was suspended from Corrective Services.
Senior was subsequently disqualified from practising psychology in 2015 after admitting to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal that she entered into relationship with the man.
Forensic psychologist James Ogloff, said psychologists can become emotionally vulnerable when working with inmates.
He said the ‘forbidden attraction’ can play a role as the reason psychologists fall for an inmate often during time of stress divorce or a bad relationship.

Democrat super-lobbyist Tony Podesta was paid $170,000 over a six-month period last year to represent Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, seeking to end one of the Obama administration’s economic sanctions against that country, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group has learned.
Podesta, founder and chairman of the Podesta Group, is listed as a key lobbyist on behalf of Sberbank, according to Senate lobbying disclosure forms. His firm received more than $24 million in fees in 2016, much of it coming from foreign governments, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
Podesta is the brother of John Podesta, who was the national campaign chairman for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s losing 2016 campaign for the presidency. Former President Barack Obama imposed the sanctions following the Russian seizure of the Crimean region of Ukraine in 2014.
The lobbying campaign targeted Congress and the executive branch, with Podesta and other lobbyists arranging at least two meetings between Sberbank officers and Department of State officials, according to Elena Teplitskaya, Sberbank’s board chairman, who spoke to House aides in August.
The discovery of high-profile Democrats like Podesta being paid lucrative fees for lobbying to lift U.S. sanctions on Russia contrasts with charges from Democrats that President Donald Trump and his key aides are soft on Russia while the Obama administration was tough on Moscow.
Podesta’s efforts were a key part of under-the-radar lobbying during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign led mainly by veteran Democratic strategists to remove sanctions against Sberbank and VTB Capital, Russia’s second largest bank.
The two Russian banks spent more than $700,000 in 2016 on Washington lobbyists as they sought to end the U.S. sanctions, according to Senate lobbying disclosure forms and documents filed with the Department of Justice.
The Podesta Group charged Sberbank $20,000 per month, plus expenses, on a contract from March through September 2016.
Podesta is one of the Democrat’s highest profile lobbyists who enjoys close personal and business connections to former Presidents Obama and Bill Clinton. John Podesta was chief of staff in Clinton’s White House and special counselor in the Obama White House.
Both Sberbank and VTB Capital face severe cash shortages due to plunging oil prices, plus the U.S. sanctions. If the economic sanctions were lifted, however, both banks could legally seek funds from American financial institutions.
“The Democrats are sitting there trying to convince us that the Russians are trying to throw the election to Trump,” a congressional aide who requested anonymity and met Teplitskaya told TheDCNF.
“And then they’re with us here in the House and meeting directly with the administration behind closed doors on the issue of the sanctions. The hypocrisy could not be any richer,” he said.
Joining the Podesta lobbying campaign was David Adams, who describes himself on the Podesta Group website as a “trusted adviser” to Hillary Clinton, serving as her as assistant secretary of state for congressional affairs.
Another Podesta lobbyist was Stephen Rademaker, a former Department of State official in the George W. Bush administration.
The Podesta Group represented Sberbank and its subsidiaries, Troika Dialog Group in the Cayman Islands, SBGB Cyprus Ltd in Nicosia, Cyprus, and SB International in Luxembourg. Troika Dialog also was related to Klein, Ltd., a Cayman Island organization that once funneled tens of millions of dollars to environmental groups to oppose low-cost fracking in the U.S., which was hurting the Russian oil industry.
The Podesta Group represents dozens of foreign embassies in the nation’s capital, as well as many authoritarian regimes like Vietnam, Myanmar and Somalia. The lobbying firm also represents political parties in Moldova and Albania, according to its Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) filing.
A second lobbying shop, the Madison Group also represented Sberbank and received $330,000 from the bank in 2016, according to Senate lobbying records. Two of the three Madison lobbyists working the account are lifelong Democrats.
A third lobbying firm, Manatos & Manatos represented VTB Capital, Russia’s second largest bank, and received $17,500 per month to seek an end to economic sanctions, according to their FARA filings with the Department of Justice.
Andy Manatos was an advance man for former President Lyndon Johnson and assistant secretary for commerce in the Carter administration.
The Sberbank-Podesta relationship goes back many years. Sberbank was the lead financial institution in the Russian deal to purchase Uranium One, owned by one of Bill Clinton’s closest friends, Frank Giustra.
Giustra and Bill Clinton lead the Clinton-Giustra Enterprise Partnership, an integral part of the Clinton Foundation. Giustra has additionally donated $25 million to the Clinton Foundation.
Giustra sought to sell his stake in uranium reserves that included ore deposits in the Western United States, and Hillary Clinton, who as secretary of state, approved the sale. And in one felled swoop, 20 percent of America’s uranium ore was sold to the Russian state atomic agency.
During the pending sale, the Podesta Group represented Giustra’s company and tried to advance the transaction.

Germany: Court rules against Syrian refugee in Merkel selfie case
Wuerzburg district court ruled against an injunction against Facebook, on Tuesday, in the case of Syrian refugee Anas Modamani, who attempted to sue Facebook, after it failed to remove all content connecting him to extremism.
The teenager filed the case after a selfie he took alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel was spread via the social networking site linking him to militant attacks in Europe.
According to the court Facebook is not required to search for and block content, as it is merely a platform.

USA TX – Plano lab employee headed to prison after inappropriately touching 6 teenage patients
A phlebotomist who worked for Children’s Medical Center Plano was sentenced to 19 years in prison last week after pleading guilty to inappropriately touching six teenage patients.
Mohammad Ali, 46, pleaded guilty on Feb. 24 to seven counts of indecency with a child, according to Collin County District Attorney
“This perpetrator preyed upon young teenaged girls who trusted him to do his job right,” Willis said in a news release. “In the end, it was the courage of these very girls that helped us catch him and hold him accountable. He won’t be preying on any more children.”
A teenage girl reported in December 2015 that Ali touched her inappropriately over her clothes while she was having her blood drawn in an outpatient lab in December 2015. Five other teens came forward after that, describing similar incidents that occurred between August and December 2015.
The girls were between the ages of 12 and 15 at the time of the offenses.
Ali began working at the lab in March 2015. He was initially placed on administrative leave when the offenses surfaced and was later terminated by the hospital. Plano police investigated.

The Washington Post could also claim it was “performing its job” when it hired a correspondent with close family links to the Castro regime. After all, getting some “inside scoop” on a terror-sponsoring Stalinist regime that burglarized, tortured and murdered U.S. citizens, that top military counter-intelligence officer Chris Simmons calls “Intelligence Trafficker to the World”– and that pulled off the deepest and most damaging penetration of the U.S. Defense Department in recent history could make for fascinating and valuable revelations.
Instead, all we’ve gotten from the WaPo’s correspondent is blatant Castroite propaganda—as if we needed any more from the mainstream media. So all we ask from the Washington Post is the same type of “full-disclosure,” they demand of Jeff Session.

VoA – Hungary’s Leader Calls Migration ‘Trojan Horse’ of Terrorism
BUDAPEST —
Migration is the “Trojan wooden horse” of terrorism and the current lull in the migrant flow is only temporary, Hungary’s prime minister said Tuesday.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban, an early supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump, has ordered the reinforcement of fences on Hungary’s southern borders to keep out migrants. Orban says the migrants, many of whom are Muslims, are a threat to Europe’s Christian identity and culture.
Orban said the migration issue would remain as long as its causes in the countries of origin were not dealt with and its potential risks were not recognized.
“Migration is the Trojan wooden horse of terrorism,” Orban said at a swearing-in ceremony for a new group of border guards, called “border hunters” by the government. “The people that come to us don’t want to live according to our culture and customs but according to their own — at European standards of living.”
Orban said the migration pressure on Hungary’s borders would continue as millions of people were planning to come to Europe in hope of better lives.
“We are still, at this moment, under siege,” Orban said. “The migration flow has only slowed but it is not over. We have gained time to strengthen our lines of defense.”
As Orban was speaking to the 462 new border guards, lawmakers from his governing Fidesz party and the far-right Jobbik party approved new rules which further limit the rights of asylum seekers and give police more power to send migrants back to Serbia.
During a state of emergency due to migration, recently extended until Sept. 7, all asylum seekers will kept at camps built from shipping containers on the border with Serbia until a final decision is made on their asylum requests.
The decision is in line with Hungary’s intention to close all other refugee reception centers around the country, some of which were shut last year.
Police will also be allowed to return to the Serbian border any migrants caught anywhere in the country who cannot prove their legal right to be in Hungary. Since July 5, only migrants found within 8 kilometers (miles) of the border could be sent back to Serbia.
The new legislation was strongly criticized by human rights advocates, who said asylum seekers’ rights to legal assistance would be severely limited.
“There are hardly 400 asylum seekers in the country,” said a statement issued by seven rights groups, including Amnesty International Hungary, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee and MigSzol, the Migrant Solidarity Group of Hungary. “The extension of the state of emergency only serves to maintain the xenophobic, fear-mongering propaganda.”
The United Nations refugee agency said it was “deeply concerned” about the detention of asylum seekers.
“This new law violates Hungary’s obligations under international and EU laws, and will have a terrible physical and psychological impact on women, children and men who have already greatly suffered,” the UNHCR said in a statement. “The detention of refugees and asylum seekers can only be justified on a limited number of grounds, and only where it is necessary, reasonable and proportionate.”
Hungary built fences on the Serbian and Croatian border in 2015. Some 400,000 migrants passed through Hungary that year before the fences were in place, most on their way to Germany and other destinations in Western Europe. A second, 150-kilometers (93 miles)-long fence on the Serbian border equipped with motion and heat sensors and other surveillance tools is planned to be completed by May 1.
While Orban has said often that Hungary will apply its Christian values to take in asylum seekers, very few achieve protection here and only around 16 a day are now allowed to apply for asylum at the border transit zones. Experts fear even fewer will be allowed to apply as the new rules are applied.
In 2016, Hungary accepted 425 asylum seekers, while registering 29,432 asylum claims. In 2015, 502 asylum seekers were granted protection. Germany took in 890,000 asylum seekers in 2015 and 280,000 in 2016.

Gabriel also noted that Germany’s relations with Turkey are currently being put to a “severe test,” in a guest op-ed in the Berlin-based Bild am Sonntag— the largest-selling German national Sunday newspaper, on March 5. “Should Turkish politicians be allowed to campaign in Germany? Those who want to speak here do not have to agree with us, but they must respect our rules—the rules of the law and decency. And mutual respect means moderation—including in a campaign and on both sides,” Gabriel wrote.

The patrol was trying to check a complaint on Tuesday evening that a resident of a flat in the capital’s al-Rayyan district had shown support to Islamic State and joined the militant group, the ministry said.
“When security men tried to arrest him, he initiated resistance and pulled a gun and it became necessary to deal with him and neutralise him, which led to his death,” it said.
Another person was arrested and was found to be in possession of a weapon, the ministry said.”

“AFTER 211 terror attacks, and foiled attempts to commit mass murder, the EU has finally decided on measures to ‘respond to the evolving terrorist threat’ in Europe.
In 2015 alone 151 people died and over 360 were injured across six EU countries – and two years on – Brussels has come up with an answer.
New rules adopted by the Council of the EU’s Parliament will mean all member states have to criminalise certain acts.
These include travelling to join a terror group, helping to organise travel for someone meeting a terror group, training to commit terror or raising funds for attackers.
Despite such acts being illegal already in some member states, including Britain, the EU is insisting bringing it into line will stop attacks.
UK terrorism laws currently state that belonging to any of the identified terrorist organisations, such as al-Qaeda or ISIS or the IRA, or appearing to support them, is illegal.
Five Syrian terror organisations, including ISIS, the al-Qaida affiliate behind the current insurgency in Iraq, were listed to be banned in Britain in 2014.
Three years ago the British Government recognised the threat posed by returning fighters – banning the groups to give them scope to charge members.
“With this agreement, the EU is now better equipped to meet the challenge of the evolving terrorist threat,” a statement said.
“Terrorism knows no borders, but the message is now clear: foreign fighters, whether they travel to, from or within the EU, will be stopped.
“But security without the respect of fundamental rights is unacceptable. That is why the new rules also strengthen victims’ rights and include clear safeguards to individual freedoms.”
A Europe report from 2016 said 1,077 arrests were made in the EU for terrorism-related offences in 2015, 424 in France.
The same report claimed the biggest threat to Europe is “returned foreign terrorist fighters” whose presence “results in acts of right-wing extremism”.
Each member state will have 18 months to implement the directive, designed to “strengthen and widen the scope of the existing legislation”.
Owen Bonnici, Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government of Malta, the country which holds the EU Council Presidency said new EU-wide rules will help fight terrorism and crackdown on foreign fighters.
Such rules have already been in place in the US for years, with prisons sentences for ‘intending to fight for ISIS’ stretching to 15 years.
The new directive also covers social media – stating the ‘glorification’ of terrorism, including sending and receiving images will be punishable by law.
“The offence of public provocation to commit a terrorist offence act comprises, inter alia, the glorification and justification of terrorism or the dissemination of messages or images online and offline, including those related to the victims of terrorism as a way to gather support for terrorist causes or seriously intimidating the population.”
Last year, Abdul Hamid, 31, from Barking, East London, was jailed for posting a video by ISIS on Facebook.
The directive also means victims will have more rights, including access of services providing medical and psycho-social treatments and assistance with compensation claims.
But the legislation does not online how foreign fighters will be identified, or how harsh sentencing should be.
“Penalties and sanctions should be provided for natural and legal persons being liable for such offences, which reflect the seriousness of such offences,” the report states.”
