    • Russia: All 39 people on board MoD’s Il-18 survive emergency landing in Tiksi – reports

Severe weather conditions reportedly forced a Russian Defence Ministry Ilyushin Il-18 aircraft to perform an emergency landing near Tiksi, Sakha Republic, Monday. At the time of the incident the plane was carrying 39 passengers and crew, all of whom survived the landing according to media reports which cite the Russian Defence Ministry.

Those wounded in the incident were swiftly transported to a Tiksi hospital, while some of the seriously wounded will later be sent to federal hospitals, local health officials said.

  1. In 1967, the CIA Created the Label “Conspiracy Theorists” … to Attack Anyone Who Challenges the “Official” Narrative

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-02-23/1967-he-cia-created-phrase-conspiracy-theorists-and-ways-attack-anyone-who-challenge

Democracy and free market capitalism were founded on conspiracy theories.

The Magna Carta, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and other founding Western documents were based on conspiracy theories. Greek democracy and free market capitalism were also based on conspiracy theories.

But those were the bad old days …Things have now changed.

The CIA Coined the Term Conspiracy Theorist In 1967
That all changed in the 1960s.

Specifically, in April 1967, the CIA wrote a dispatch which coined the term “conspiracy theories” … and recommended methods for discrediting such theories. The dispatch was marked “psych” – short for “psychological operations” or disinformation – and “CS” for the CIA’s “Clandestine Services” unit.

The dispatch was produced in responses to a Freedom of Information Act request by the New York Times in 1976.

  2. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/france-russia-compromise-aleppo-syria-rescue-uncertain/

BEIRUT — France struck a compromise Sunday with Russia on a U.N. resolution that it said would prevent “mass atrocities” in besieged areas of Aleppo, where thousands of trapped civilians and rebel fighters await evacuation in freezing temperatures.

On the ground, prospects for swift evacuations from Aleppo and other besieged areas were thrown into doubt again Sunday after militants burned buses assigned to the rescue operation that has taken center stage in the five-year-old Syrian civil war.

The Aleppo evacuations were to have been part of a wider deal that would simultaneously allow more than 2,000 sick and wounded people to leave two pro-government villages that have been besieged by Syrian rebels. Most villagers are Shiite Muslims, while most rebels are Sunni Muslims.

  3. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/dec/18/uk-cluster-bombs-used-in-yemen-by-saudi-arabia-finds-research

The British defence secretary Michael Fallon has seen government analysis indicating that UK-made cluster munitions were used by the Saudi-led coalition in the current conflict in Yemen, sources have told the Guardian.

It is understood the government’s own investigations back up media reports that such cluster bombs have been deployed in the war, in which Britain is helping to train Saudi forces. A source told the Guardian that Fallon is among the ministers to have known about the analysis for about a month.

But it is understood ministers have still not been given definitive confirmation one way or the other by Saudi Arabia, which has publicly denied the allegations and claimed that UK-made cluster bombs found are the relics of old conflicts.

The revelation is likely to increase calls on the government to reconsider exports of arms to Saudi Arabia, which have already grown since the US suspended a planned sale of precision-guided munitions last week.

  4. Again, just for the lulz:

Gov. Cuomo was so eager to celebrate Hillary Clinton’s presidential inauguration, he booked 200 hotel rooms in DC for family, friends and supporters of his possible future bid for the presidency.

“A little overconfident,” snickered one Republican.

When Donald Trump won the election, Cuomo was stuck, so he had a staffer call Ed Cox, chairman of New York’s Republican Party, and offer him the giant block of rooms at the downtown Loews Madison.

“The best part is Cuomo booked so early, he locked in a really low rate,” said my insider. Cox was grateful. “Rooms in DC are a hot commodity right now.”

The 29-year-old brother of two women found dead Friday in south Ottawa has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder.

Musab A-Noor refused to appear in court Sunday morning but was charged nonetheless in the deaths of 29-year-old Nasiba A-Noor and 32-year-old Asma A-Noor.

The bodies of the two Somali-Canadian sisters were found at around 9 p.m. Friday when police were called to a home on McCarthy Road near Paul Anka Drive.

“Libyan security and health officials say a suicide bomber has killed eight army troops near the eastern city of Benghazi.

The officials say the Sunday night counterattack in the besieged Ganfouda area also wounded another eight soldiers. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they aren’t authorized to talk to reporters.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the bombing in a statement circulated online.

Army spokesman Ahmed al-Mosmari says a push to retake the district is in “its last stage, and terrorist group leaders are besieged inside.”

Ganfouda is one of the last two extremist-held areas in the east besieged by Libyan army troops that answer to Field Marshal Khalifa Hifter, who backs Libya’s last elected parliament against rival militias loyal to the U.N.-backed government based in Tripoli.”

“Indian investigators say they’ve determined that the leader of a Pakistan-based militant group and three others should face trial for an attack on a military air base in northern India that left seven Indian soldiers dead last January.

The National Investigative Agency says it filed a charge sheet against the four on Monday. It says phone intercepts suggest that the four gunmen in the Jan. 2 attack came from Pakistan and were killed by Indian forces.

There was no immediate reaction from Pakistan, but it is unlikely to extradite Maulana Masood Azhar, the Jaish-e-Mohammad group chief, and three other group members to face trial in India.

The agency said its investigation established that the attackers were trained, motivated and radicalized in Pakistan by Azhar and his brother Mufti Abdul Rauf.”

  9. Muted U.S. Response to China’s Seizure of Drone Worries Asian Allies

BEIJING — Only a day before a small Chinese boat sidled up to a United States Navy research vessel in waters off the Philippines and audaciously seized an underwater drone from American sailors, the commander of United States military operations in the region told an audience in Australia that America had a winning military formula.

“Capability times resolve times signaling equals deterrence,” Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr. told a blue-chip crowd of diplomats and analysts at the prestigious Lowy Institute in Sydney, the leading city in America’s closest ally in the region.

In the eyes of America’s friends in Asia, the brazen maneuver to launch an operation against an American Navy vessel in international waters in the South China Sea about 50 miles from the Philippines, another close American ally, has raised questions about one of the admiral’s crucial words. It was also seen by some as a taunt to President-elect Donald J. Trump, who has challenged the One China policy on Taiwan and has vowed to deal forcefully with Beijing in trade and other issues.

“The weak link is the resolve, and the Chinese are testing that, as well as baiting Trump,” said Euan Graham, the director of international security at the Lowy Institute. “Capability, yes. Signaling, yes, with sending F-22 fighter jets to Australia. But the very muted response means the equation falls down on resolve.”

    • China’s Drone Seizure Sows Concern That U.S. Secrets Were Stolen

A top U.S. lawmaker said China may be poring over a seized underwater drone to unearth secret information about Navy technology, hours after President-elect Donald Trump suggested Beijing should “keep it.”

“The Chinese are able to do a thing called reverse-engineering, where they are able to — while they hold this drone, able to find out all of the technical information. And some of it is pretty valuable,” Senator John McCain of Arizona said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

The comments by McCain, who leads the Senate Armed Services Committee, underscored the U.S. political tensions touched off by China’s decision to scoop up the submersible in international waters in the South China Sea. Assurances from China that the vessel would be returned failed to quiet U.S. critics — including Trump, who initially denounced the snatch-and-grab move and then reversed himself hours later.

  10. Eeyore a while back you commented on how the US is a better nation because we punish our crooked politicians. The question of punishment for Hillary and company is still the big question but here is one from France that proves your point.

IMF’s Lagarde guilty, but not punished, in French negligence trial

PARIS (Reuters) – French judges found IMF chief Christine Lagarde guilty of negligence on Monday for failing to challenge a state arbitration payout to a business tycoon in 2008 when she was French finance minister, but they did not punish her.

“The context of the global financial crisis in which Madame Lagarde found herself in should be taken into account,” said Martine Ract Madoux, the main judge, in explaining the absence of any sentence.

She also cited Lagarde’s good reputation and international standing as reasons why the court did not hand down a punishment in a case that could have carried a sentence of up to a year in prison.

In their ruling, the judges did not see negligence in Lagarde’s decision to seek an out-of-court settlement with businessman Bernard Tapie, but they said her failure to contest the award to him of 400 million euros ($417 million) was negligent, and led to a misuse of public funds.

Lagarde’s lawyer said immediately after the ruling that his team would look into appealing the decision.

  12. Senior Saudi cleric calls for work rules for women to be relaxed but not their clothes (express, Dec 19, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/745142/Saudi-Arabia-cleric-women-work-rules-clothes-relaxed

“A SENIOR Saudi cleric and a health ministry official said women should be allowed to work as paramedics and opticians, Saudi newspapers reported today, part of a push to relax strict labour codes in the ultra-conservative kingdom.

The government announced an economic reform plan in June that aims to increase the number of women as a proportion of the workforce to 28 percent from 23 percent by 2020 and to quadruple the number of women in senior civil service roles to 5 percent.

Saudi Arabia is the only country where women are forbidden to drive, making it harder for them to get to work.

Regulations also bar them from certain professions, while rules on gender mixing in shops and businesses further limit job opportunities.

“It’s fine [for a woman] to work as a paramedic, provided she’s decent and in the lawful attire,” a senior member of the state-appointed body of clerics, the Ulama, Sheikh Abdullah al-Manea told the Okaz daily.

Women are already allowed to work as doctors and have volunteered as medics in Mecca during the haj pilgrimage for the past few years, with similar requirements for modest dress.

Mohammad Bajbair, a senior health official in the Red Sea commercial hub of Jeddah, told the Saudi Gazette that women could work in opticians’ shops as long as they do not mix with men.

“If a complaint is received by the health affairs department about the mixed environment then the shop might be closed down,” said Mr Bajbair.

Out of 144 nations, only Iran, Yemen and Syria place lower than Saudi Arabia in a gender equality ranking compiled by the World Economic Forum.

Saudi Arabia’s economic plan envisages weaning the economy off its high dependence on oil and increasing the range of jobs available to citizens…”

“A SYRIAN refugee has said women are to blame for the sickening migrant sex attacks that rocked Germany over last year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Aras Bachot, who has been living in Germany for five years, said women should not be out alone at night.

The 18-year-old blogger says he “fights for equality” in his bio on the German Huffington Post.

His controversial comments are likely to cause outrage after more than 500 women reported being sexually assaulted, raped and robbed after more than 1,000 migrants went on the rampage in Cologne on New Year’s Eve in a night of horror.

He posted on Twitter: “Most of the time women are to blame. To be alone at night. On the other hand, the refugees should behave,” with the hashtag “#Silvester”, which means New Year’s in German.

The tweet sparked an angry backlash on the social media site, with some branding his comments as “dangerous”…”

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/745211/Lindsay-Lohan-solve-migrant-crisis-Greek-nightclub

“WILD child Lindsay Lohan is hoping to solve the migrant crisis by spending ALL profits from her new nightclub in Greece on helping refugees.

The eponymous super club, Lohan, opened in October to much fanfare, with the Mean Girls star herself getting up to DJ as Athens socialites partied the night away.

The 30-year-old actress revealed she had invested in the club, complete with half-naked dancers, with then boyfriend and shipping magnate Dennis Papageorgiou, and said some profits from her part of the investment would go towards helping refugees children.

But she has now promised all profits from her share will go towards helping refugees in a country struggling to deal with an influx over the past few years as well as crippling national debt.

The club’s spokeswoman, Tonia Koumpa, told journalist David Patrikarakos in Athens: “Lindsay feels very strongly that there is a global refugee crisis going on and her country, the US, has taken in hardly any refugees.

“The club will make money and a portion of it will be invested in helping the needs of refugees.

“Lindsay said she will take all the profits from her share of the business to use for refugee causes.”…”

  15. ‘USA you’ll pay!’ UK Muslims chant Allahu Akbar in 2nd march in 3 days to demand Caliphate (express, Dec 19, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/745056/Muslim-protest-demands-Islamic-caliphate-Allahu-Akbar-Belgrave-Square-London-Syria

“HUGE crowds of Muslims chanting Allahu Akbar descended on London for the second time in a week in a series of protests to demand an Islamic caliphate in Syria.

On Wednesday, more than 1,000 protestors gathered outside the Syrian embassy in London’s Belgrave Square calling for America to be punished over Aleppo.

While one protester appeared to be waving a Taliban flag, others were seen handed placards made by Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, which calls for the reestablishment of a caliphate.

Then just days later another 400 British Muslims travelled to the capital from cities including Birmingham and Bradford to take part in a second march on Belgrave Square.

The segregated crowd saw women and children forced to stand at the back while men were pushed to the front.

Speakers again railed against the US, blaming the country for the situation in Syria, before leading the crowd in chants calling for the re-establishment of a caliphate in Syria.

Many protestors gathered behind a huge orange banner which told “Muslim armies” to help set up a new “khalifah rashidah” – the first four Caliphs to succeed the prophet Mohammed – in greater Syria.

Others thrust decorated banners in the air and black flags adorned with Arabic writing, as they chanted Allah Akbar or ‘God is the greatest’.

One sign read: “Muslim armies march forward. Have no fear, victory is near.”

Another said: “As-Sham (Syria) betrayal of Muslim rulers.”

Saturday night’s second march was also allegedly arranged by Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, with leaflets posted online just one day in advance.

A poster created by the group claims the protest was held in support for Aleppo, and read: “The world is watching in horror, the destruction of Aleppo.

“Tens of thousands of Muslim men, women and children are at the mercy of the blood thirsty Syrian regime and its allies.

“Silence from the Muslim brothers is deafening.

“They have watched the US and Russia plot against the people of Ash-Sham, witnessing men being massacred, women being violated an children robbed of their innocence.

“Brothers and sisters, join us to raise the voice of truth, raise your voice for your brothers and sisters in Syria.”

In a 2009 report by the Centre for Social Cohesion, the group were found to be in direct ideological conflict with the West and allegedly accuse Britain of leading a “campaign” against Muslims worldwide…”

  16. Turkey blocks access to Tor anonymising network (BBC, Dec 19, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-38365564

“Turkey has blocked direct access to the Tor anonymous browsing network as part of a wider crackdown on the ways people circumvent internet censorship.

The crackdown began last month when Turkish ISPs were told to cut off the virtual private networks people use to hide where they go.

Many people are changing the way they connect to Tor to avoid the block.

Activists said the block moved Turkey’s net censorship policies from “moderate” to “severe”.

    Blocking order

Tor, also known as The Onion Router, aims to conceal where people go online by using encryption and randomly bouncing requests for webpages through a network of different computers.

The system has become popular in many nations, such as China and Turkey, where governments are known to watch what people do and say online.

Now Turkey Blocks, which monitors internet censorship in the nation, said its regular monitoring of Tor showed that it was being widely blocked across the country.

The organisation started to investigate after many people in Turkey reported having problems reaching the Tor network.

It added that the Turkish government had put in place sophisticated systems at ISPs to spot when people were trying to connect to Tor.

These inspect packets of data and can pick out the distinctive signature of those that are destined for Tor.

Turkey Blocks said the Turkish government ordered firms to start blocking VPNs and Tor in early December, and has increased the pressure on firms to act by asking for weekly updates about the success of the measures.

The monitoring group said that while direct access to Tor was not working well, many people were reporting that they could still access the network if they used a bridge.

These are unofficial entry points to the Tor network which, because they are not listed in the software itself, can survive when blocks are imposed.

Turkey has a long history of cutting off access to websites and services – particularly during periods of social unrest.”

  17. Palestinians: Welcome to the World of Western-Funded Terrorism

    by Bassam Tawil
    December 19, 2016 at 5:30 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/9601/palestinians-western-funded-terrorism

Killing Jews has become a profitable business. Palestinians who think of launching a terror attack against Jews can rest assured that their well-being and that of their family will be guaranteed while they are in Israeli prison. Here is how it works:

The Western-funded Palestinian Authority (PA) government, through its various institutions, provides a monthly salary and different financial benefits to jailed Palestinian terrorists and their families. Upon their release, they will continue to receive financial aid, and are given top priority when it comes to employment in the public sector. Their chances of getting a job with the PA government are higher than those who went to university, because by carrying out an attack against Jews they become heroes, entitled to a superior job and salary.

For the record, these people have not been imprisoned for running a red light. Most of them are behind bars because they have masterminded suicide bombings and other terror attacks that have killed and maimed hundreds of innocent civilians during the past few decades. In the U.S., these convicted Palestinian terrorists would have been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty. What they would not be receiving are the privileges offered to them by Abbas and the PA leadership.

Ready for a dose of linguistic reality? In addition to his title as president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas is also chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). So it makes no difference at all whether the PA or the PLO is paying salaries to the terrorists: the same man is authorizing the funds. In reality, the PA and the PLO are one and the same. Israel signed the Oslo Accords with the PLO, and as a result of these agreements, the PA was created. We are dealing with the same people and same ideology.

  18. Sharia Councils: Taking Liberties

    by Robbie Travers
    December 19, 2016 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/9587/uk-sharia-councils

It is considered a fundamental principle in liberal democracies that individuals should have equality under the law, with equal access to justice, despite race, gender, or religious belief and that the same laws of a single legal system should apply equally to everyone.

To have two simultaneously functioning rules of law, applied on differing judicial bases, would create a challenge of which precedents to follow, or why individuals from different groups should be treated differently. How long before people form one group would claim to be from a different group to be exempt from the first group’s laws? Such a system invites abuse.

Dealing with minorities by differing legal systems rather than creating a more pluralist utopia simply leads to a divided society in which minorities and majorities have justified mutual distrust.

Sadly, these principles which have sculpted a strong judicial system in the United Kingdom for so long are now facing a significant threat.

In Britain, the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA) recognises and protects women’s rights to equality, and not to be discriminated against in legal proceedings. But the rule of law in Britain is being eroded by the legitimisation of sharia councils. This has occurred under the Arbitration Act (1996), even though their operation in the Britain has been recorded since 1992.

  19. Germany: Berlin police arrest man who kicked young woman down Metro stairs

A 27 year-old man who brutally attacked a woman at the Hermannstrasse subway station in Berlin, last October, was arrested and interrogated on Saturday, after returning to Berlin on a long-distance bus. The spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, Stefan Stoehr, confirmed that the suspect remained in police custody in Berlin, Monday.

SOT, Stefan Stoehr, Prosecutor’s office spokesperson (German): “The defendant was brought before a judge yesterday for the announcement of the arrest warrant. He was interrogated and gave some details, which are being evaluated at the moment. Therefore I cannot give you any detail on the content of his statements.”

SOT, Stefan Stoehr, Prosecutor’s office spokesperson (German): We don’t have concrete information regarding the arrest. I know that plain-clothes police arrested him at the Charlottenburg bus station upon arrival of his bus.”

SOT, Stefan Stoehr, Prosecutor’s office spokesperson (German): “The defendant is being charged for aggrevated assault, which can lead to a prison sentences from six months up to 10 years.

SOT, Stefan Stoehr, Prosecutor’s office spokesperson (German): “The investigation looks at all possible versions. Whether he can be charged with attempted murder depends on the course of the ongoing investigation.”

  20. The Hacking Evidence Against Russia Is Extremely Weak

Last week, German security officials said that Russia hacked secret German communications and provided them to Wikileaks (English translation).

But now, German officials say that the communications were likely leaked from an insider within the German parliament, the Bundestag (English translation).

Similarly, when a treasure trove of secret NSA tools were revealed, Russian hackers were initially blamed.

But it turns out that it was probably a leak by an NSA insider.

So claims that Russia is behind any specific hacking incident need to be taken with a grain of salt …

  21. WARNING: Don’t Try This at Home
A new book for newlyweds distributed by a local gov’t and containing ‘pearls of wisdom’ for creating a good marriage is sparking outrage in Turkey.

A book for newlyweds about how to create a successful marriage is creating an outrage in Turkey – both from the central government and from the opposition, reported the UK Daily Express.

The book is being distributed by the municipality of Kutahya, a city 155 miles (250 kilometers) southeast of Istanbul. The city is run by the AK P, the Islamist party of Turkish President Recep Erdogan.

Among other choice pearls of advice, the book says:

Women should “not to talk during sex, because it could lead their child developing a stutter”

“A woman who does not dress for her husband, who is not obedient to her husband being the head of the household, can be beaten”

    • I can see why the people are upset.

With rules like these any woman who has a chance to run and change her religion is a fool not to run.

  22. Second Pro-Caliphate Rally in London in One Week
The international Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir held a second rally calling for a caliphate in a week at the site of the old Syrian Embassy in London.

A crowd of 400 gathered in London on Saturday to call for the establishment of a Caliphate, as reported by Breitbart. The event, organizated by the Islamist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, was billed as a demonstration against government inaction in Syria and against the massacres taking place there.

However, demonstrators waved banners calling for the establishment of the “Khilafah Rashidah” (rightly-guided Caliphate) in “Bilad al-Shams” (Greater Syria) which covers Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan. The crowd denounced Muslim rulers as “Uncle Toms,” a pejorative term for someone perceived as a race traitor.

They also waved black flags with the shahada on them (the Islamic declaration of faith). Variations of this flag are flown by jihadis of different groups. In green it is the flag of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  23. Russian Ambassador to Turkey Karlov shot in Ankara

Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, has been shot at an art exhibition in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Russian embassy sources have confirmed to the Daily News.

Karlov was shot by a gun while making a speech at a painting exhibition in the Turkish capital, the embassy said, adding that it believed that it was a radical Islamist attack.

The attack comes one day before Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavusoglu heads to Moscow for talks on Syria with his Russian and Iranian counterparts.

Private broadcaster CNN Türk said Karlov was in a critical state.

Meanwhile, private broadcaster NTV said three other persons were also injured inthe attack.

Broadcaster CNN Turk said the attacker might be still inside the building and that Karlov had not yet been removed to hospital.

Hürriyet reporter Hasim K?l?ç, who was at the scene during the attack, said attendants at the exhibit ran away after the attacker fired into the air. The attacker then targeted Karlov, K?l?ç said.

Special forces surrounded the building in preparation for an operation amid the sound of gunshots, witnessed confirmed.

BBC – Russian ambassador Andrei Karlov ‘wounded’ in gun attack in Turkey

      • Russian ambassador to Turkey assassinated
        By J.E. Dyer December 19, 2016

This is a developing story, and there will obviously be more to say at a later time. But the news broke within the last couple of hours that Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, was fatally shot at a cultural event in Ankara on Monday, by a gunman shouting “Allahu akbar!”

        CNN has this summary:

In a video circulating on social media that shows the shooting of the ambassador, the gunman is heard shouting, “Allahu akbar (God is great). Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria!”

“Get back! Get back!” the man can be heard shouting in Turkish as he waves a gun.

“Only death will remove me from here. Everyone who has taken part in this oppression will one by one pay for it,” he said.

Turkish authorities stated afterward that the gunman had been “neutralized.” Reporting from the UK Mirror indicates, based on Turkish media, that the gunman was a Turk, and was killed by police:

        http://libertyunyielding.com/2016/12/19/russian-ambassador-turkey-assassinated/

        • At a time when NATO and the EU are fading fast, and therefore present less and less of a counterweight to Russia, Moscow is establishing control of eastern Ukraine, strengthening ties with Greece, prowling the coast of Syria with a constant naval presence, and gaining control of western Syria. These moves amount to closing a pincer on Turkey.

Iran, meanwhile, is deploying troops in the guise of Shia basiji militias into Iraq, first across central Iraq — all the way to Ramadi — and now into the outskirts of Mosul, a comparatively short distance from the Turkish border. Iran is also involved in reconquering western Syria — and remains the primary sponsor of Hezbollah, which now controls most of Lebanon in all but name.

Iran’s moves too are a pincer aimed at Turkey, if you see it from Turkey’s perspective. It’s not just the land being occupied; it’s the coastline and adjacent sea and airspace that the land gives Iran and Russia a veto over. As Rush Limbaugh likes to say, don’t doubt me on this. There is a security emergency building for Turkey. We can’t be sanguine about what Erdogan, himself a neo-Ottoman Islamist radical, is going to do.

There are major and very real security disruptions happening before our eyes. Now is not the time for high-profile assassinations, brought off — like the one in 1914 — by terrorists.

          • Please remember that no matter what you think of George W. his actions had the terrorists split and weak and Iran worried about what we were going to do. After Obama pulled us out of Iraq way too early the terrorists rebuild almost over night and many of their weapons and training came from the US either through naivety or deliberate action on the part of Obama’s people.

Now Obama’s weakness and his unilaterally disarming the US (not quite total disarmament but close) has created a situation where Putin has become the main power broker in the Middle East, Iran is on the way to getting nuclear weapons (if they don’t already have them) and the terrorists are losing one country but are rebuilding in another and are spreading trained fighters and officers to Europe and North America.

      • DAILY MAIL :

Ankara’s mayor Melih Gokcek said the use of Islamic slogans could have been an attempt by the killer to deflect blame from those responsible for ordering the attack.

It is claimed he was active in his youth with President Erdogan’s AKP party and may have been linked with the Al Nusra Front, an affiliate of Al Qaeda.

The Yeni Safak daily said on its website that the attacker worked with anti-riot police in Ankara.

It is understood Turkish authorities have already rounded-up Altintas’s mother, sister and his roommate.

  25. PIA plane crash: Pakistan’s national airline sacrifices goat on Tarmac before test flight

The good luck ritual appears to break international aviation rules

Twelve days after a fatal air crash in Pakistan, the aviation world has been startled by the apparent sacrifice of a goat beside a plane at the nation’s main international airport.

Social media is reporting that the animal was ritually slaughtered just before a test flight of a PIA plane of the same type that crashed on 7 December.

Forty-seven people lost their lives aboard PK661 when the plane flying from Chitral to Islamabad crashed on a hillside.

The airline grounded its 10 remaining ATR42 aircraft for tests. It is understood that the goat was slaughtered at Benazir Bhutto Airport in Islamabad on Sunday before a test flight to Multan.

International aviation rules are extremely strict about “foreign object debris” (FOD) in the active areas of aircraft — which the Federal Aviation Administration defines as “Any object, live or not, located in an inappropriate location in the airport environment.”

The organisation says: “FOD has the potential to damage aircraft during critical phases of flight, which can lead to catastrophic loss of life and airframe, and at the very least increased maintenance and operating costs.”

On the PPRuNe pilots’ forum, a contributor named Fox Niner wrote: “I wonder whether the goat was correctly admitted to the secure area?”

A pilot working for a leading UK airline said: “We’re all very sad about the accident, but this bizarre ceremony makes a mockery of aviation.”

Most of the bodies of the 42 passengers and five crew who died in the crash of flight PK661 have been buried; the remains of the three foreign victims are still in a mortuary while formalities are completed.

  26. Saudi foreign minister says Syria must be pressured into political solution

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told the Arab League on Monday that if world powers fail to pressure the Syrian regime there will be no political solution to the war.

“The question is not how we reach a political solution; we all want that. The question is how we can enforce necessary pressures on the regime so that it heeds the will of the international community,” Jubeir said at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo.

“If we cannot find an effective way to pressure the Syrian regime then we will not reach a political solution and the killing, displacement, and injustice in Syria will go on. We will bear responsibility for this in front of Allah and the Syrian people,” he said.

United Nations Syria mediator Staffan de Mistura intends to convene peace talks in Geneva on Feb. 8, his office said on Monday.

Saudi Arabia has been pressing US legislators to make amendments to the controversial law that clears the way for lawsuits seeking damages from the kingdom regarding the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to the Saudi foreign minister.

Following an extended trip to the United States, Adel al-Jubeir told reporters on Sunday he has been trying “to persuade [US lawmakers] that there needs to be an amendment of the law,” the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), that legitimizes lawsuits by Americans regarding terrorist attacks committed on US soil.

“We believe the law, that curtails sovereign immunities, represents a grave danger to the international system,” Jubeir said

The JASTA law allows attack survivors and relatives of attack victims to file lawsuits against foreign countries for acts of terrorism that kill Americans on US soil. vocativ – ISIS Celebrates Berlin Attack: ‘2017 Will Be A Year Of Massacre’

A large truck plowed through a crowd of Christmas shoppers in western Berlin on Monday night, leaving at least nine dead

The motivations and identity of the man who drove a truck into a crowded Berlin market Monday remain unknown, but supporters of the Islamic State are already praising the driver on the group’s forums, social media and Telegram channel. The attack, which is still being investigated, left at least nine people dead and dozens injured.

Members of the Islamic State’s main forum prayed the driver “will find a place in heaven” and said that “the calls to target Christians bears fruit with the praise of God.” Many also linked the attack to the recent defeat of Syrian rebels in Aleppo, warning that “Muslim countries will not be the only ones that are sad.”

Some connected between the attack in Berlin to the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey earlier on Monday, calling it “a day of good tidings.” One user, referring to the attacks in Ankara, Berlin and ISIS’ ongoing fight against the Iraqi army in Mosul threatened that “2017 will be a year of the massacre.”

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the terror attack in the French city of Nice in July, in which 84 people were killed after a man drove a truck through a large crowd watching fireworks and celebrating Bastille Day. The driver in that truck attack was identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Tunisian man.

A truck plowed into a crowded Christmas market in central Berlin on Monday evening, killing 12 people and injuring 48 others in what Germany’s interior minister said looked like an attack.

Police said on Twitter that they had taken one suspect into custody and that another passenger from the truck had died as it crashed into people gathered around wooden huts serving mulled wine and sausages at the foot of the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church in the heart of former West Berlin.

The nationality of the suspected driver, who fled the crash scene and was later arrested, was unclear, police said.

German media cited local security sources as saying that there was evidence suggesting the arrested suspect was from Afghanistan or Pakistan and entered Germany in February as a refugee.

Also hilft da vielleicht ein Darlehensprogramm. Wenn man dann verdient, kann man diese 500 Euro zurückzahlen, es werden überall Kraftfahrer gesucht.“

    Trump’s Showdown with China
China is already trying to test Trump, but is it Trump who will test China?
    December 19, 2016

China has hacked some of our most vital defense secrets. Its secret police operate in our cities. Its propaganda outlets threaten war while it plots to build an empire at our expense.

And our government appeases the thugs and tyrants of the People’s Republic of China.

The viral photo of Obama bowing to China’s Hu Jintao is how most Americans remember the 2010 Nuclear Security Summit. But behind the ‘bow seen around the world’ were months of appeasement.

While it’s fashionable in the media to mock Trump’s threat to label China a currency manipulator, Obama had accused China of currency manipulation when he first ran for the White House.

“I will use all diplomatic means at my disposal,” he had vowed. Like the rest of his diplomatic threats, this too swiftly devolved into a silly farce.

Obama tried to bluff China by dragging out the verdict on whether it was a currency manipulator. To no one’s surprise, the People’s Republic didn’t blink, the People’s Republic of Hope and Change did.

    http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/265125/trumps-showdown-china-daniel-greenfield

Richard: Despite the claims of the Chinese and the useful idiots in the US the Chinese economy is in worse shape then the US economy and it is dependent on exporting to foreign nations, primarily the US. If we stop buying from China or put tariffs on the items made on China so the US owned factories move to other nations (Part of the problem with the Chinese Economy is that the Chinese government got greedy and demonaded a larger share of the profits from the items made in China. Many of the US companies moved to Singapore weakening the Chinese economy.) this means China is in worse shape for a trade war then the US. Also China has been selling US debt and Japan has been buying, Japan is now the biggest holder of US debt, this gives them a lever to ensure that we support them in their struggle with China. (With Trump in office we would anyway) And it weakens the Chinese lever of owning US debt.

Things aren’t as cut and dried as the left and the propaganda media want us to think, in fact in many ways we are the ones setting in the position of power.

  31. Fidel Castro’s Historic Propaganda Affiliates Suddenly Upset Over ‘Fake News’
When the mainstream media was more than happy to disseminate the lies of a monster.

“Much more valuable than rural recruits for our Cuban guerrilla force were American media recruits to export our propaganda.” Ernesto “Che” Guevara.

“Propaganda is vital—propaganda is the heart of our struggle.” Fidel Castro

“The vetting procedure starts the minute the (Cuban) regime receives your visa application. When your smiling Cuban ‘guides’ greet you at the airport they know plenty about you, and from several angles.” Chris Simmons, the Defense Intelligence Agency’s top Cuban spycatcher, now retired

“The Castro regime assigns 20 security agents to follow and monitor every foreign journalist. You play the regime’s game and practice self–censorship or you’re gone.” Vicente Botin, reporter for Madrid’s El Pais who was booted from Cuba for taking his job title seriously.

Entire books have been dedicated to thoroughly documenting the mainstream media’s long, lucrative and gleeful partnership with the Castro regime’s KGB-trained propaganda apparatchiks in spreading (genuine) fake news. Given current bandwith constraints, let’s limit ourselves to a couple of the most outrageous examples:

After strolling down the red carpet Cuba’s Stalinist regime so often throws down to welcome NBC ‘s Andrea Mitchell, this “intrepid reporter” frequently interviews a Cuba-based “health expert” named Gail Reed. Ms Mitchell always introduces Reed as “the international director of the nonprofit group Medical Education Cooperation.”

“Italy’s new Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni said Monday he will ask parliament to approve a precautionary 20 billion euro funding package for the country’s troubled banks.

The move comes as Italy’s third-largest bank, Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS), tries to raise five billion euros ($5.2 billion) in new private capital to stave off government intervention.

BMPS, the oldest bank in the world, is at the heart of an Italian banking crisis which has cost it over 80 percent of its market capitalisation in the past year.

“It’s a precautionary measure. We believe it is our duty to take this measure to protect savings. I hope all the political movements in parliament share this responsibility,” Gentiloni told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

“In the last two years 1.2 million people have arrived in Germany seeking asylum. New government figures show that getting into work takes time.

A total of 34,000 refugees have found work in Germany over the past 12 months, the figures released on Monday by the government’s Institute for Labour Research (IAB) showed.

Almost quarter (22 percent) of those who have found work are on temporary contracts.

The numbers are for refugees out of the eight most important countries of origin, including Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea.

“If we manage to get 50 percent of them into work which pays for their lives in five years, that’d certainly be a success,” said Joachim Möller, director of the IAB.

But he cautioned that “it would be an illusion to believe that we will manage to find jobs for a decent proportion of refugees in well-paid industry jobs like car manufacturing.”

Möller added that temporary jobs were important to help refugees get a foot in the door.

“Many companies are sceptical, so temporary work can help them get a feel for someone.”

The refugee influx has also created between 50,000 and 60,000 jobs for Germans, with extra jobs in professions such as teacher and social worker likely to be needed for years to come, according to Möller…”

    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2016/12/203997/morocco-receive-mad-58-2-million-europe-combat-racism/

“The EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa has announced it will donate MAD 58.2 million to increase the protection of migrants and strengthen effective migration management in North Africa.

The European Union recently approved a €37 million package to Morocco, Tunisia and Libya to help these countries deal with different issues related to immigration. The communiqué, released on December 16th, specifies that Morocco will receive MAD 58.2 million (€5.5 million), as the kingdom previously benefited from other programs.

The aim of this contribution is to help Morocco implement programs to fight racism and xenophobia against sub-Saharans, strengthen the legal management to protect them and improve the treatment of complaints.

According to the communique, Morocco is currently benefiting “from a large and diverse of migration pipeline program,” adding that the EU Member States have ratified “a €35 million budget support program” to support Moroccan policies pertaining to migration.

Another €20 million will be allocated by the EU to support to Libya’s aims to protect their “most vulnerable migrants” as well as their host communities.

Tunisia will receive the second biggest part of the amount allocated to the three countries. €11.5 million will go toward the creation of economic opportunities, the lack of which is considered to be “the root cause of migration.””

      • … and the only thing we can do is continuing, go out, and continuing to go out to those parties, and continuing to go to those areas to make sure that they [Islamic terrorists] don’t change the way of life that we have come to know and love.

What unadulterated bu!!shit! “[C]ontinuing to go out to those parties…” and (however defiantly) continuing to make ourselves vulnerable targets for these jihadist turds is not a viable alternative. While I admire the expressed refusal to be cowed, merely maintaining a reactive posture is totally inadequate.

Horrible as that might seem, making lots of Muslims DIE, as a response to their collective unwillingness to alter or pacify Islam’s traditionally violent doctrine of obscene collective punishment / mass murder / genocide will prove to be one of the only functional ways of ensuring that this world’s global Islamic population takes meaningful action against its own internal jihadist component.

It is incumbent upon this planet’s Muslims to voluntarily purge Islam of its genocidal, supremacist, terrorist, “honor killing”, intolerant, misogynistic, lying, theocratic, homophobic, racist, totalitarian, expansionist, female genital mutilating, rape-victim-punishing, triumphalist, apocalyptic, superstitious, amputating, beheading, and barbaric, tyrannous, domination of all and sundry.

Should this planet’s Muslim population refuse to do so, then they must be confronted with an existential conventional or unconventional threat that is convincingly able to persuade them that any further pursuit of jihad will result in general extermination. Much like what Muslims wish for all of us.

After all, far too many Muslims avidly anticipate genocide of the kuffar (even if it’s just 30% who’re jihadist).

Out of this world’s 1.6 billion Muslims, even if a solid BILLION of them seek only peaceful coexistence (which is quite probable), that leaves some six hundred million violent, terrorist antagonists. Even the most accurate polls find that there are between 200 and 300 MILLION Muslim men of fighting age that have NO problem with using violence to promote the spread of Islam. The bad news is that these terrorists are dispersed throughout that entire 1.6 billion Muslim population.

That 200 or 300 MILLION Muslim men of fighting age is somewhere around the population of the entire United States.

Pray tell, how is the West supposed to fastidiously and meticulously sort through these MILLIONS of intentionally dissembling fighting age men who have taken religious vows to destroy Western Civilization?!?

To close, Islam brings down upon itself the most horrific destruction. Liberals, in their protective efforts, have not a FECKING clue (see:The Law of Unintended Consequences). And these Liberal loons, instead, shelter Muslims from the consequences of their acts in ways that assure their complete obliteration. Pauvre petite.

      • Poor Scott Brown.
He’s just a silly pretty-boy. Nobody takes him seriously. He’s just a place-holder when some too-flagrantly red candidate must be defeated in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.
        (He’s bi-state. [ambi-state? cis-state?])

    • Here is an idea for all western nations, give the veterans in the western nations retraining if they need it then give them handguns and let them carry them. This will put a large number of trained people on the streets to protect others.

“A Milan court on Monday sentenced in absentia Italy’s alleged first foreign fighter, Maria Giulia ‘Fatima’ Sergio, to nine years in prison for terrorism.

‘Fatima’, 29, is believed to be in Syria, where she has been a combatant for the so-called Islamic State (IS) extremist group since 2014.

Her father Sergio Sergio was sentenced to four years in jail and her husband, Albanian national Aldo Kobuzi, to 10 years in jail by the same court.

Sergio’s sister was tried separately and sentenced to five years four months in prison. The family, all of whom were converts to Islam, were arrested in July 2015 when prosecutors said they and seven other suspects had joined IS and were on the verge of leaving to fight in Syria.

The mother, Assunta Buonfiglio, died of cardiac arrest aged 60 in October 2015, on the eve of her release into house arrest.

Monday’s sentence was the first in Italy to be handed down against a foreign fighter still in the combat zone.”

One security personnel was also killed during the operation.

The militant was killed after opening fire on police, according to the statement. The security forces found several loaded firearms in the terrorist hideout.

Last week, the Ministry of Interior said it killed three militants of the “Hasm” group during a security raid in Upper Egypt’s Assiut governorate.

  40. Brotherhood’s condemnation of militant’s execution shows it supports terrorism: Foreign ministry (ahram, Dec 19, 2016)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/253386/Egypt/Politics-/Brotherhoods-condemnation-of-militants-execution-s.aspx

“The banned Muslim Brotherhood claimed that Adel Habara, who was executed on Thursday for his role in killing 25 soldiers in 2013, was not granted full legal rights

Egypt’s foreign ministry said Sunday that the denunciation by the banned Muslim Brotherhood group of the recent execution of Islamist militant Adel Habara reflects the organisation’s “support for terrorism.”

Habara, 40, was sentenced to death in 2014 for murdering 25 army personnel in Sinai in August 2013.

Authorities executed him on Thursday days after a top court rejected his final appeal.

A day later, the Brotherhood — designated by the government as a terrorist group in late 2013 — condemned his execution as a “new crime [by the regime] of violating human rights and abusing the justice system.”

The Brotherhood had said in a statement that Habara was not granted a fair trial and that authorities failed to offer him the internationally recognised human and legal rights he needed to defend himself.

The foreign ministry’s statement said that “the [Brotherhood’s] statement sympathises with a militant who carried out a terrorist attack that was condemned by the entire international community,” referring to the 2013 Sinai attack.

“This is a categorical response to those who still doubt that the Brotherhood is a terrorist organisation,” the statement added.

The ministry said that the once-ruling group failed to acknowledge the rights the court had granted Habara, including multiple appeals other judicial and legal proceedings the trial went through over the course of three years.

Egyptian authorities are battling an Islamist insurgency based in the border North Sinai region.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has made crushing the militancy a top priority in his administration.”

“The Interior Ministry stated on Dec. 19 that a total of 924 suspects were detained in operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) across Turkey over the past week, after the country was rocked by two deadly terror attacks.

Security forces conducted operations in 45 provinces across the country, detaining 924 suspects for allegedly aiding and abetting the PKK, the ministry stated.

It also said security forces, including the gendarmerie special forces, commandoes, police special forces and the army’s air and land units, had conducted 213 operations targeting PKK militants between Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 across Turkey.

Seven PKK militants were “neutralized,” with two killed, while another five were captured, one of whom was injured, it added.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” to imply militants who have been captured or killed…”
