We have gone through the various claims about hacking. For us, it is child’s play to dismiss them. The email disclosures in question are the result of a leak, not a hack. Here’s the difference between leaking and hacking:
Leak: When someone physically takes data out of an organization and gives it to some other person or organization, as Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning did.
Hack: When someone in a remote location electronically penetrates operating systems, firewalls or any other cyber-protection system and then extracts data.
All signs point to leaking, not hacking. If hacking were involved, the National Security Agency would know it – and know both sender and recipient.
In short, since leaking requires physically removing data – on a thumb drive, for example – the only way such data can be copied and removed, with no electronic trace of what has left the server, is via a physical storage device.

Comey to Trump: The Russians Didn’t Influence the Election

In telephone conversations with Donald Trump, FBI Director James Comey assured the president-elect there was no credible evidence that Russia influenced the outcome of the recent U.S. presidential election by hacking the Democratic National Committee and the e-mails of John Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
What’s more, Comey told Trump that James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, agreed with this FBI assessment.
The only member of the U.S. intelligence community who was ready to assert that the Russians sanctioned the hacking was John Brennan, the director of the CIA, according to sources who were briefed on Comey’s conversations with Trump.
“And Brennan takes his marching orders from President Obama,” the sources quoted Comey as saying.
In Comey’s view, the leaks to the New York Times and the Washington Post alleging that the Russians tried—and perhaps even succeeded—in tilting the election to Trump were a Democratic Party effort to delegitimize Trump’s victory.
During their phone conversations, Comey informed Trump that the FBI had been alert for the past year to the danger that the Russians would try to cause mischief during the U.S. presidential election.
However, whether the Russians did so remains an open question, Comey said, adding that it was just as likely that the hacking was done by people who had no direct connection to the Russian government.
“It’s also unclear,” the sources pointed out, “why Putin would have preferred dealing with Donald Trump, who has promised a major military buildup, over Hillary Clinton, who would have continued Barack Obama’s cautious policies toward the Kremlin.

China should plan to take Taiwan by force and make swift preparations for a military incursion, a Communist party-controlled newspaper has said, after US president-elect Donald Trump broke decades of diplomatic protocol in the region.
Before he even assumes the presidency, Trump has called into question the longstanding US foreign policy of maintaining formal relations with Beijing instead of Taiwan, which China considers a breakaway province. He also spoke directly with Taiwan’s president, the first such contact since 1979. Both moves have infuriated China.
In response, the Global Times, a state-run tabloid that sometimes reflects views from within the Communist party, said on Thursday that China should rebalance its stance towards Taiwan to “make the use of force as a main option and carefully prepare for it”.
“The Chinese mainland should display its resolution to recover Taiwan by force,” the paper wrote in an editorial. If Taiwan were to declare formal independence, it went on, “the Chinese mainland can in no time punish them militarily”.

China has defended the long-range air force drills it conducted over disputed waters and the deployment of weapons on the contested Spratly islands as normal and “legal” military activities. The exercise alarmed Japan and Taiwan as China’s aircraft flew over the East and South China Seas.
“The overflight is about the mission and responsibility of the Chinese Air Force, and is legitimate, reasonable and justified,” China’s ministry of national defence said on its official site on Thursday (15 December).
Warplanes belonging to China’s air force recently flew over the South China Sea, Miyako Strait and near Japan’s Okinawa island. The planes flew close to the Bashi Channel, a waterway between the Philippines and Taiwan.
According to reports, the drill by Beijing was held following US President-elect Donald Trump’s phone conversation with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, which infuriated the Communist country.
China’s air force said that foreign media reports about the incident involved H-6 strategic bomber and Su-30 fighter jets had “attracted public attention at home and abroad”. However, it did not confirm the aircraft that were involved in the drills.
“In the past two years of the Chinese air force’s holding drills far out at sea, we have dealt with and handled various forms of interference and obstruction, carrying out reconnaissance and early warning, patrol, attack, air refueling and other drills,” the air force added.
Meanwhile, Japan responded to China’s manoeuvre and scrambled fighter jets, which Beijing protested against and accused Tokyo of engaging in “dangerous and unprofessional” conduct.
In a separate statement issued on Thursday (15 December), China also defended its deployment of weapons on the disputed Spratly islands in the South China Sea and said that it did not breach the law and was “legitimate and lawful”, according to Reuters.
Its comments come hours after a US think tank reported that China had installed anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems on seven artificial islands the country has built on the waterways.
China’s defence ministry reiterated that the developments on the islands were mainly for civilian purposes. “For example, were someone to be threatening you with armed force outside your front door, would you not get ready even a slingshot?” AP quoted the ministry as saying.

China defends its right to ‘ready slingshot’ in South China Sea
BEIJING (Reuters) – China defended its right on Thursday to put “necessary military installations” on artificial islands in the South China Sea, after a U.S. think-tank said Beijing appeared to have deployed weapons such as anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems.
The Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI) at the Center for Strategic and International Studies said its findings, made available first to Reuters on Wednesday, were based on analysis of satellite images of islands in the strategic trade route, where territory is claimed by several countries.
The United States has previously criticized what it called China’s militarization of its maritime outposts, and stressed the need for freedom of navigation by conducting periodic air and naval patrols near them that have angered Beijing.
China’s Defence Ministry said in a statement on its website on Thursday that the construction it had carried out on islands and reefs in the disputed Spratlys chain was “mainly for civilian use”.
“As for necessary military installations, they are mainly for defence and self-protection and are legitimate and lawful,” it said. “If someone makes a show of force at your front door, would you not ready your slingshot?”
The United States has conducted four freedom of navigation patrols, seen as a challenge to China’s extensive territorial claims in the South China Sea, in the past year or so, most recently in October.

‘Tiger’ Israel has wary eye on Iran after Syrian rebels lose Aleppo
JERUSALEM (Reuters) – The fall of Aleppo to Syrian government forces backed by Russia and Iran has heightened alarm in Israel about potential threats to its borders and a wider reshaping of the region.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left no doubt on Wednesday about the depth of Israel’s concern about Tehran, whose position and that of its proxies in Syria has been strengthened by the crushing of rebel resistance in Aleppo.

Ex-Britain First leader Paul Golding jailed over mosque ban
The former leader of Britain First has been jailed for breaching a court order telling him not to enter a mosque or encourage others to do so.
Paul Golding, who has stepped down as head of the group, admitted contempt of court and was jailed for eight weeks.
The injunction, which stopped him entering any mosque in England and Wales, was imposed in August.
But nine days later he drove four Britain First members to Cardiff’s Al-Manar Centre for a “mosque invasion”.
The injunction also banned him from encouraging others to enter a mosque.
‘Cynical defiance’
Golding, 34, stayed outside and there was no violence but there was a verbal confrontation between his four colleagues and a mosque trustee.
James Weston, counsel for the Chief Constable of Bedfordshire Police who brought the committal application, said mosque members found the conduct provocative and unnerving and were concerned it could have escalated if prayers had not been over.
Judge Moloney said the breach was a “deliberate and cynical defiance” of the court’s order as well as an affront to the Muslim community not merely in Cardiff but throughout the country where Britain First might circulate its propaganda.
Golding, was a former BNP councillor in Swanley, south-east London, who ran as Britain First’s candidate in this year’s mayoral elections.
He will serve four weeks of the sentence.

Britain First’s former leader Paul Golding has been jailed for eight weeks after breaching a High Court ban on him entering any mosque in England and Wales.
A statement on the group’s Facebook page read: “BREAKING!! BRITAIN FIRST LEADER PAUL GOLDING SENT TO PRISON! The High Court has sent Paul to prison for confronting a hate preacher in Cardiff who said it’s okay for Muslims to keep sex slaves! More updates shortly.”
It came after an injunction was requested by Bedfordshire Police following a series of “mosque invasions” where the far-right group filmed themselves going into mosques to confront imams or worshippers.
The party also described Luton as a “hotspot” for Islamic extremism and handed out Bibles outside non-Christian places of worship.
Golding is not the first senior member of the group to be found in breach of the law.
In November, current leader Jayda Fransen was found guilty of religiously-aggravated harassment after she hurled abuse at a Muslim woman wearing a hijab.
She was fined nearly £2,000 for wearing a political uniform and shouting at Sumayyah Sharpe during a “Christian patrol” of Bury Park in Luton, on Saturday 23 January.
Last month, Labour MP Louise Haigh called for Britain First to be listed as a terrorist organisation and banned from standing in democratic elections.
Golding, who ran in May’s London mayoral elections, was widely criticised after he turned his back on Sadiq Khan during his acceptance speech.

Georgia Secretary of State Brain Kemp has a good question. Why has the Department of Homeland Security been trying since February 2016 to hack his agency’s voter registration database? Kemp posed the question to DHS last week, but has yet to receive a satisfactory answer.
Readers will remember that back in August, Jeh Johnson and DHS jumped on the “rigged election” train to try to centralize federal power over the conduct of American elections. America’s voting systems, said Johnson, should be declared “critical infrastructure,” so that they could be properly protected by DHS. The move had the hallmarks of a federal power grab, and I expressed strong reservations about that at the time.
So did a number of the states, including Georgia. Secretary Kemp was decidedly skeptical of Johnson’s motives when he addressed the issue in late August.

The House Intelligence Committee chairman rebuked intelligence agencies on Wednesday evening for their refusal to grant a briefing request on cyberattacks during the U.S. presidential election.
“It is unacceptable that the intelligence community directors would not fulfill the House Intelligence Committee’s request to be briefed tomorrow on the cyberattacks that occurred during the presidential campaign,” Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., wrote in a statement. “The legislative branch is constitutionally vested with oversight responsibility of executive branch agencies, which are obligated to comply with our requests. NBC News – Why Didn’t Obama Do More About Russian Election Hack?
The Obama administration didn’t respond more forcefully to Russian hacking before the presidential election because they didn’t want to appear to be interfering in the election and they thought that Hillary Clinton was going to win and a potential cyber war with Russia wasn’t worth it, multiple high-level government officials told NBC News.
“They thought she was going to win, so they were willing to kick the can down the road,” said one U.S official familiar with the level of Russian hacking.
The administration did take action in response to the hack prior to the election. In September, President Obama privately confronted Vladimir Putin about the hacks at the G-20 summit in China. He warned the Russian President of unspecified consequences if the hacks continued.
On October 7, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence issued an unprecedented joint statement pointing the finger at Russia, saying hacks of U.S. political groups and individual politicians could only have been done with the authorization of “Russia’s senior most” Russian officials and that its intent was to undermine the integrity of the election.
Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized the Obama administration for not being more forceful.
“I think it is a legitimate question and I think given the stakes at the national level the question deserves an answer,” said ret. Adm. James Stavridis when asked by NBC News about the level of the administration’s response. “In retrospect it certainly seems as though it was a mistake not to call the Russians sooner and respond to them in a very forceful way.”
An administration official, in turn, criticized the news media for focusing more on the leaked documents than on the Russian covert operation that hacked into political entities to steal the documents.
Administration officials pointed out that the day the intelligence assessment was made public was the same day a tape was leaked revealing Trump’s lewd conversation with Billy Bush. Eleven days later, at an October press conference, Obama was not asked a single question about the Russian hacks.
“We used the same playbook we did with Sony,” an administration official said, referring to the North Korean cyber attack on the Hollywood studio. The difference, he said, was that the media and the public was focused elsewhere.
A Shift in Position?
On Thursday morning, President-elect Trump joined in the criticism of the Obama administration, writing, “If Russia, or some other entity, was hacking , why did the White House wait so long to act? Why did they only complain after Hillary lost?”
Trump was no longer disputing, as he has for months, that Russia was involved. And his top transition aide, Anthony Scaramucci, went even further Wednesday night in an interview with MSNBC’s Brian Williams.
“I don¹t think anybody thinks that you¹re wrong,” he said of the NBC News report. “Our position right now is that we¹re waiting for more information. We reject the notion that people would cyber attack our institutions. We are very upset about it.”
Scaramucci went on to suggest that Trump needed time to digest the intelligence.
“I wonder whether the tweet the president-elect sent out today is the beginning of his pivot, the beginning of his acknowledgement of the intelligence that Russia has been hacking our institutions,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.
Putin Did It
In an exclusive report Wednesday, U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News they now believe with “a high level of confidence” that Putin became personally involved in the covert Russian campaign in October.
Two senior officials with direct access to the information say new intelligence shows that Putin personally directed how hacked material from Democrats was leaked and otherwise used. The intelligence came from diplomatic sources and spies working for U.S. allies, the officials said.
Putin’s objectives were multifaceted, a high-level intelligence source told NBC News. What began as a “vendetta” against Hillary Clinton morphed into an effort to show corruption in American politics and to “split off key American allies by creating the image that [other countries] couldn’t depend on the U.S. to be a credible global leader anymore,” the official said.
Ultimately, the CIA has assessed, the Russian government wanted to elect Donald Trump. The FBI and other agencies don’t fully endorse that view, but few officials would dispute that the Russian operation was intended to harm Clinton’s candidacy by leaking embarrassing emails about Democrats.
The latest intelligence said to show Putin’s involvement goes much further than the information the U.S. was relying on in October, when all 17 intelligence agencies signed onto the joint ODNI/DHS statement attributing the Democratic National Committee hack to Russia.
Intelligence sources emphasize to NBC News that there is no evidence that Donald Trump collaborated behind the scenes with Putin or the Russians. A senior intelligence official also said that the possibility of Trump shifting his position on the hacks “will scare the bejesus out of the Kremlin.”

CNN – Obama vows action against Russia for hacks
President Barack Obama on Thursday vowed retaliatory action against Russia for its meddling in the US presidential election.
“I think there is no doubt that when any foreign government tries to impact the integrity of our elections that we need to take action and we will at a time and place of our own choosing,” Obama told National Public Radio.
Describing potential countermeasures by the US, the President said “some of it may be explicit and publicized; some of it may not be.”
He said he directly confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin about a potential US response, and said his counterpart acknowledged his stance.
“Mr. Putin is well aware of my feelings about this, because I spoke to him directly about it,” Obama said.
Obama and Putin conferred on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in China in September. Afterwards, Obama told reporters he raised cybersecurity with the Russian leader.
Intelligence agencies in October pinned blame on Russia for election-related hacking. At the time, the White House vowed a “proportional response” to the cyberactivity, though declined to preview what that response might entail.
Officials have said US actions against Russia may not be revealed publicly.
Speaking Thursday at the White House, Press Secretary Josh Earnest declined to say whether the US had already begun its response to Moscow’s actions.
“The President determined once the intelligence community had reached this assessment that a proportional response was appropriate,” Earnest said. “At this point, I don’t have anything to say about whether or not that response has been carried out.”

Officials at FBI headquarters instructed its New York field office to continue its corruption investigation into the Clinton Foundation following the election of Republican candidate Donald Trump, according to a former senior law enforcement official.
The instructions ordered agents to “go forward” with their ongoing inquiry into the Clinton Foundation, which is focusing on issues of corruption and money laundering, according to the source.
“There were no instructions to shut it down, to discontinue, or to stand down on the investigation, but to continue its work,” the former official told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an interview.
He said he received this information about a week ago and that the order originated from the bureau’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. well after the Nov. 8 election. He did not know who at FBI Headquarters issued the order.
The same source broke the news to TheDCNF that the FBI was conducting a multi-city probe of the foundation in as many as five cities: New York, Little Rock, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Miami. The source did not know the status of the bureau’s work in the four other cities.
After the election, President-elect Donald Trump indicated that prosecuting rival Hillary Clinton or her foundation would not be a priority.

UK ‘doesn’t see a future’ for Assad in Syria
LONDON: Bashar Assad has no future as president of Syria even if he overpowers rebel fighters in the stricken city of Aleppo, British defense minister Michael Fallon said on Thursday.
“We don’t see a future for President Assad in Syria, even if he defeats the opposition in Aleppo,” Fallon told a London press conference.
“There is no victory in bombing hospitals, in restricting humanitarian aid and ending up in a country that you only control 40 percent of.” He added: “We continue to work for a political settlement in Syria that is genuinely pluralist.”
Fallon was speaking alongside US defense chief Ashton Carter after a meeting in London of key members of the US-led coalition fighting the Daesh group in Iraq and Syria.
Carter backed his British counterpart, saying: “Political transition is the only way that the suffering of the Syrian people can finally be brought to an end.”
He accused Russia of supporting “incredible brutality” by backing Assad’s assault on rebels in Aleppo, which he said was in “stark contrast” to the coalition’s activities in Iraq and Syria.
US President-elect Donald Trump has so-far struck a softer tone with Russia, but Carter said it would be “logical” for him to stick to the current administration’s approach toward IS.
“I can’t speak for the next administration. However, I do have confidence in the future of the coalition campaign. It’s logical, it makes sense,” he said.
Fallon added: “This is a global threat and I have no doubt that the next US administration will step up to its traditional role of global leadership.”
Carter said President Vladimir Putin’s actions in the war had not helped defeat IS “and they are participating in the Syrian civil war in a brutal and unhelpful way.”
Fallon claimed that Russia was only “prolonging” the war by focusing on Aleppo, leaving the door open for IS in other areas such as Palmyra.
Their comments came as Assad congratulated Syrians on the “liberation” of Aleppo, as civilians and fighters evacuated the last rebel pocket of the northern city that was once Syria’s economic hub.

Islamist front groups in Canada and the West have dragged the media and the political “elites” into their extremist messaging. Rather than learning about why extremism and terrorism come out of their religion, Islamists instead concentrate on preventing the victims of their violence from speaking out. They do this by shouting “Islamophobia” at every opportunity, and do so most loudly at modernist or secular Muslims.
The Parliament of Canada, for example, passed an “anti-Islamophobia” motion on October 26, 2016. Samer Majzoub, the president of the Canadian Muslim Forum, was the person behind the Parliamentary petition against “Islamophobia”; it generated some 70,000 signatures. The sponsor of the motion in the House of Commons was MP Frank Baylis.
Both Majzoub and the Canadian Muslim Forum have a rather long list of dubious connections to Islamist groups and the foreign money used to support them. This includes the Muslim Brotherhood.
What is the real intent of Samir Majzoub, the Canadian Muslim Forum and its exploitation of the over-hyped concept of “Islamophobia”? As noted, Islamists, including Majzoub, have a long history of dragging prominent people and organizations into their arguments about extremism, terrorism and radicalization. These Islamists do not use their influence to drain the resources of Islamic terrorism in Canada and elsewhere, nor do they seek to stop young Canadians from joining ISIS. They did not stop suicide bombers in Canada such as Aaron Driver or Calgary-based Salma Ashrafi, who became a suicide bomber in Iraq. They do not use their knowledge or money to dismantle the infrastructure of extremism, nor do they attempt to dismantle the historical and religious arguments in favor of terrorism. Rather than do any of this, they instead make it their priority to intimidate, harass or sue those who speak out against Islamist extremism and its accompanying terrorism.

The nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Agreement (JCPOA) — effective, as of October 18, 2015, according to the State Department – clearly and distinctly stipulates that Iran should not undertake any ballistic missile activity “until the date eight years after the JCPOA Adoption Day or until the date on which the IAEA submits a report confirming the Broader Conclusion, whichever is earlier.”
Not only is Iran avoiding honoring this stipulation, but also Iran’s ballistic missile operations have significantly ratcheted up. More importantly, there has been no criticism at all from the Obama administration or other involved parties regarding this critical violation.

Judicial Watch: U.S. Customs, Homeland Security Records Reveal Somalis Given Security Briefings, ‘Community Engagement Tours’ in Secured Areas at Major U.S. Airports
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released 31 pages of records from U.S. Customs and Border Protection revealing that the<strong< Department of Homeland Security has given Somalis “community engagement tours,” including security briefings, in secured areas at least three major U.S. airports – Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Columbus, Ohio.
The records came in response to a May 2016 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, which sought records, documents and communications regarding a “Community Engagement Tour” in Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on February 18, 2016.
The briefings provided to the Somali groups were so sensitive that in 14 instances the agency redacted portions of the records under Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) exemption (B)(7)(e), the law-enforcement “risk circumvention” exemption, which reads:
Exemption 7(E) of the Freedom of Information Act affords protection to all law enforcement information that would disclose techniques and procedures for law enforcement investigations or prosecutions, or would disclose guidelines for law enforcement investigations or prosecutions if such disclosure could reasonably be expected to risk circumvention of the law.
In another instance, Customs and Border Protection exempted under (B)(7)(e) a portion of a February 16, 2016, “Minute by Minute Agenda” provided during a tour/briefing of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). The material that was withheld from Judicial Watch as too law-enforcement sensitive – but provided in full to the Somali group – included a section entitled: “TSA Overview — Processing [Redacted].” The invitees were provided briefings of the Global Entry system, APC [Automated Passport Control] system, secondary screening procedures, baggage-screening procedures and given tours of the holding cells/interview rooms.
Notes from the February Minneapolis St. Paul Airport tour include: “Current CBP and TSA job vacancies were discussed. Attendees responded with requests for DHS outreach efforts during Somali community events to further advertise these positions to interested individuals.”
The newly released records also reveal:
In addition to the Minneapolis Airport tours/briefings given to Somalis during 2014 and 2015 – and first revealed by Judicial Watch in August 2016 – tours of U.S. airports and security briefings also have been provided to other groups at airports in Los Angeles and Columbus, Ohio: “Once we agree on the dates we will select the time based on prayer schedules. Another idea could be the roundtable to take place at the airport after the tour. We have done that before in LA and Columbus and it worked well both times”.
The timing of the Minneapolis Airport tour given to a group of Somalis in February 2016 was scheduled between 6-8pm because it would “accommodate prayer times well”
During the “annual” tour, federal authorities granted excursions of the facility’s “secure areas.” It is also noted that two parties in the previous year “did not pass vetting.”
The invitation extended to the Somalis for the Minneapolis Airport tour addressed them as “Dear Colleague,” and promised “walking people through CBP’s process, walking people through TSA’s process” and provide “a step-by-step tour of our operations, designed to offer a greater understanding of airport processes and procedures.”
Eight senior ranking Homeland Security and Customs officials were tasked with accompanying and briefing the Somalis on the February 18, 2016, Minneapolis Airport tour, including the Minneapolis Area Port Director, the Assistant Port Director, the Watch Commander, a Homeland Security Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Senior Policy Advisor (flown in from Washington), the TSA Federal Security Director and TSA Deputy Federal Security Director.
The documents show Customs officials reporting that one of the invited individuals had given “CBP Chicago a hard time” following the last tour and noted three of the invitees had had investigations against them, which had since been closed. Another invitee had an active investigation pending.
“Logically, information that is too sensitive to provide to Judicial Watch and the public should not have been given to a ‘community engagement tour,’” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The U.S. government has been aware for years that Minnesota is a hotbed of Somali terrorist-cell activity. The behind-the-scenes tours and security briefings of the Minneapolis airport very well could have created a threat to public safety.”
In August 2016, the Judicial Watch blog, Corruption Chronicles, reported on the Muslim airport tour story: “The Obama administration gave Somali Muslims behind-the-scenes tours at a major U.S. airport after the group complained to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson about feeling harassed and profiled, government records obtained by Judicial Watch reveal. The special security tours not offered to any other group occurred at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport after Department of Homeland Security roundtable meetings with local Somali leaders to obtain feedback for ‘modifications to practices that would allow for operations to be more culturally sensitive.’”

Despite a Government pledge to crack down on payments, Britain shelled out £32.6million in the last financial year after more than 38,000 cases were approved for legal advice.
This was a sharp rise on the previous 12 months when £30million was spent on 34,000 cases.
The Ministry of Justice figures show that in five years £166million of legal aid has gone to asylum seekers and migrants – including thousands whose claims have been rejected.
Critics last night said the figures highlight how the migrant crisis is overwhelming our borders.
In the first three months of this financial year, from April to June, £8.2million was spent on legal advice in almost 10,000 cases.
That compares with £6.7million spent over the same three months in 2014.
This means each taxpayer now forks out around £900 a year on average as increasing numbers of asylum seekers and migrants fight to remain in the UK.
Legal aid pays for lawyers to help migrants prepare asylum claims or fight refusal of permission to stay.
Lawyers can also represent asylum seekers at tribunal hearings or seek their client’s release from custody if they are being held at a detention centre while their case is being processed…”

Sixty percent of precincts in Wayne County had to be disqualified from the statewide recount because of “irregularities.” According to Fox News judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano, those irregularities look “organized” and “government involved.”
County records prepared at the request of The Detroit News after ballot irregularities were discovered revealed that 37 percent of Detroit precincts registered more votes than voters during the election.

Prosecutors believe they have identified a yob who kicked a woman down a flight of stairs at a Berlin subway station but he has fled to his native Bulgaria.
A local tabloid has reported that public prosecutors in Germany have identified him as Svetoslav Stoykov, 26, but cannot arrest him because he has left the country.
The incident in October was captured in a video shared this week.
Bulgarian media say Stoykov is married to a woman called Tsvetanka, with whom he has three children.
Bulgarian Nova TV reported Stoykov had a long criminal record in Bulgaria.
He was born in the city of Dobrich in northern Bulgaria, but currently lives in Varna, a resort on the Black Sea coast.
A Bulgarian TV journalist who visited the house in the Maksuda district spoke to Tsvetanka’s parents through a huge iron gate at the front of the house.
Stoykov’s mother-in-law Ibryan said: ‘We don’t know about the video. We haven’t seen it, and I don’t want to watch it.’
They said that while the pair were in Germany, they were staying at the house and looking after the children but they refused to let the TV team inside.
German media had reported earlier that the culprit had gone back to Bulgaria, and if this turns out to be the case, they are likely to request his extradition.

A veteran of Nixon’s staff and a cable-news analyst has been tapped to be deputy national security advisor.
Monica Crowley, a conservative radio host and Fox News analyst, has been tapped by the Trump administration as the senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council, the Trump transition team announced Thursday.
“I am deeply honored, humbled and grateful to be asked by the President-elect to join the extraordinary national security team he is assembling,” said Crowley in a statement. “With vision, courage and moral clarity, he is committed fully to re-establishing America’s singular place in the world. He is also committed to selecting the best people for the jobs of keeping the American people safe and the country secure. It will be a great privilege to serve with them.”
Crowley’s selection was first reported by The Daily Beast.
