Attacks on police: Inspired or directed by militant groups?
DALLAS (AP) — Police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota were followed by calls from black militant groups and others to seek vengeance against officers. Almost immediately, several officers were attacked, including the five slain by a sniper in Dallas.
Now authorities are investigating whether the Dallas gunman was directed by those groups or merely emboldened by them.
“I think it’s safe to say we’ll leave no stone unturned,” Dallas Deputy Police Chief Scott Walton said.
Police have been tight-lipped about exactly what they’re investigating and what they’ve uncovered so far. Although Micah Johnson was connected to several militant groups on social media, it’s unclear if he was merely a follower or a more active participant.
Similar questions have been raised by international terrorist organizations such as the Islamic State group: How is the network encouraging and directing attacks? Is it a coordinated effort or are the attacks simply a byproduct of hate speech espoused by the groups on social media?
The number of black separatist groups nearly doubled in 2015, mirroring a similar increase among white hate groups that has taken place as police killings make frequent headlines, said Ryan Lenz, online editor and senior writer at the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Still, many people who become radicalized do so without direct ties to any groups. Instead, they surf the web and grow their anger in private, Lenz said.
“In the last couple of years, we’ve seen this violence become an ever-present reality in our lives,” Lenz said. “We are in a polarized political climate right now where the ‘us-versus-them’ mentality has started to reign supreme.”
Johnson followed black militant groups on Facebook, including the African American Defense League, which posted a message that referenced the police shooting of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana: “You and I know what we must do and I don’t mean marching, making a lot of noise, or attending conventions. We must ‘Rally The Troops!’ It is time to visit Louisiana and hold a barbeque.”
Other groups Johnson “liked” included the New Black Panther Party, the Nation of Islam and the Black Riders Liberation Party. The last two are described as hate groups by the law center, which monitors hate crimes and right-wing extremism.

Babu Omowale, the so-called national minister of defense for the People’s New Black Panther Party, says his group and allied organizations have their sights set on establishing “our own government in a nation within a nation.”
Omowale was speaking in an interview set to air Sunday night on this reporter’s talk radio program, “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio,” broadcast on New York’s AM 970 The Answer and News Talk 990 AM in Philadelphia.
Omowale used the interview to claim five states as belonging to the “Black Nation”: Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia.
The revolutionary stated: “We just need to start migrating back to those states and taking control of the economics in those states. If black people move in, most definitely white people will move out. So it’s not a hard process for us to have our own country within a country.”

Police agencies on edge, on guard amid heightened threats
ATLANTA (AP) — Police agencies across the U.S. are on edge and on guard after receiving threats and calls for violence against them on social media in the aftermath of the killings of two black men and the sniper attack that left five officers dead in Dallas. Some departments ordered officers to pair up or more generally said they were heightening security.
Authorities have said the Dallas gunman, who also wounded seven other officers and two civilians, wanted to “exterminate” whites in the aftermath of the killings of Philando Castile in Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana. And a man who killed one person and wounded three others — including an officer — in Tennessee apparently told investigators he was motivated by the recent killings of black men by police.
Since then, threats ranging from generic promises of violence to specific video postings have been made, only heightening fears of further attacks. In Dallas, authorities received an anonymous threat Saturday, prompting police to tighten up security. Officers swarmed the department’s headquarters, searching for a reported suspicious person in a garage before finally issuing an all-clear.
While some threats have been unspecific and not credible, other promises of violence have been more targeted. In Louisiana, a man was accused of posting a video online showing him in his vehicle behind a police car, saying he wanted to shoot and kill an officer. Police say Kemonte Gilmore flashes a handgun in the video and talks about the slayings of Castile and Sterling.
Police also say a Wisconsin man posted calls on social media for black men to gun down white officers, and a woman in Illinois is accused of threatening in an online video to shoot and kill any officer who pulled her over.
In Mississippi, Waveland Police Chief David Allen told The Sun Herald newspaper threats had come via phone and social media and involved possible gunfire attacks over the weekend. Extra police were to be on duty.

Intruder shot by off-duty St. Louis County officer after online argument about Black Lives Matter, family says
LAKESHIRE • A former Affton High School football standout forced his way into a South County home and was shot and killed by an off-duty officer inside after a Facebook dispute over Black Lives Matter apparently boiled over late Saturday afternoon.
That’s what can be pieced together from the accounts of police and an uncle of Tyler Gebhard, who said the young man had been struggling with mental health issues.
“He walked over there and into a gunfight,” Gebhard’s uncle, Patrick Brogan said, drawing on accounts offered by friends of his nephew. “When he got there, he was met with a gun and the guy killed him.”
Authorities said Gebhard, 20, and the officer were acquainted, and Gebhard made Facebook threats to the officer’s family and “uninvolved members of the community” in advance of the Saturday encounter with the unidentified officer.

Military Robotics Makers See a Future for Armed Police Robots
As military-grade robotics get cheaper and more capable, someone will arm them and put them on American streets.
Robot-maker Sean Bielat says he’s fine with the Dallas Police Department’s apparently unprecedented use of a bomb-disposal robot to kill a gunman on Thursday. “A robot was used to keep people out of harm’s way in an extreme situation,” said Bielat, the CEO of Endeavor Robotics, a spinoff of iRobot’s military division. “That’s how robots are intended to be used.”
Joergen Pedersen, the CEO of RE2 robotics and the chairman of the National Defense Industrial Association’s robotics division concurred. “If these robots are used in manners for which they were unintended, we would expect that the officers who are there to keep citizens and themselves safe would use good judgment where the application of lethal force is a last resort,” he said.
On Sunday, speaking to Face the Nation, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings blessed the operation. “The chief had two options and he went with this one. I supported him completely because it was the safest way to approach it,” he said.
But some ethicists are worried.

Former top cop: America is ‘sitting on a powder keg’

The former top cop in Washington and Philadelphia said Sunday that the country is “sitting on a powder keg” amid outcry over a number of fatal police shootings, including two last week that prompted nationwide protests.
And he fears that “some incident” will take place at the national political conventions later this month.
Charles Ramsey, the former D.C. police chief and one-time Philadelphia police commissioner, said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that this is a “volatile time” for the nation.
“We are sitting on a powder keg,” he said. “You can call it a powder keg. You can say that we’re handling nitroglycerin, but obviously, when you just look at what’s going on, we’re in a very, very critical point in the history of this country.”

Ramsey’s comments came after police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota, and then deadly sniper fire in Texas, where five officers were killed and several others were wounded.
On Tuesday morning, Alton Sterling was killed by a white police officer in Baton Rouge — a slaying captured on video by a bystander. The next night, Philando Castile was killed in Falcon Heights, Minn., as his girlfriend broadcast his final moments in real time on Facebook.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said that the police-involved killings may have sparked the “delusions” of a man who opened fire on police officers Thursday night during a protest in the city’s downtown.
Brown told CNN it appears that the shooter, Micah Xavier Johnson, was trying to make police “pay for what he sees as law enforcement’s efforts to punish people of color.”

A Washington Post analysis showed that last year, 990 people in the United States were fatally shot by police. So far this year, that number has reached at least 512 — an increase over the same period last year.

The number of fatal shootings by officers increased from 465 in the first six months of last year to 491 for the same period this year, according to an ongoing two-year study by The Washington Post. This year has also seen more officers shot and killed in the line of duty and more officers prosecuted for questionable shootings.
He added:
Blacks continued to be shot at 2.5 times the rate of whites. About half of those killed were white, and about half were minorities. Less than 10 percent of all those killed were unarmed. One-quarter were mentally ill.
Ramsey, who was appointed by President Obama in 2014 to lead a White House policing task force, told NBC’s Chuck Todd that some crime rates are on the rise, explaining that, on average, there are about 13,000 murders in the United States each year but that “these are not shootings by police.”
“These are people killing people,” he said.
“Who do you think goes after the people responsible for these crimes? It’s the cops,” he added. “And we encounter a lot of very dangerous people out there on the street. So we can look at numbers in a variety of ways, but I think we need to keep it in context that police officers have a very challenging and often dangerous job. Now that’s not to say that we should not be mindful of the fact that we have some officers that use excessive force, that shoot people when it’s not totally justified. We’ve got to really address that and hold them accountable.
“But it is not a reflection of the department and policing at large.”
Ramsey also discussed the differences and discrepancies between police departments across the United States and said they need to be consolidated.
“There are approximately 18,000 departments in the United States,” he said. “In my opinion, far too many. And we need to look at a long-term goal. More regionalization, better training, more consistency in policy and procedures.
“In your larger cities, where you have a lot of diversity, obviously you have officers that are very accustomed to dealing with a variety of people. We still have parts in our country where that’s not the case. We need to bring people together, but we need more consistency in terms of the training that’s provided, the selection and hiring of individuals. All those kinds of things need to happen.”
He recommended cutting the number of departments in half “because you are always going to have these kinds of issues as long as you have this many departments with different policies, procedures, training and the like.”

Ramsey said he worries that the topic may incite some issues at the upcoming Republican and Democratic national conventions.
The conventions, he said, “are going to be very, very challenging to handle. And I don’t think they are going to go without some incident taking place,” he said on “Meet the Press.”
“It’s unfortunate, but that’s what I personally think. I hope that’s not the case. But you’ve got too many people that are now with this extreme rhetoric and that is just not good for anybody. We need to come together, we need thoughtful people to sit down and engage in dialogue, but actually come up with solutions, not just finger-pointing and playing the blame game. That’s not helpful to anybody at all.”
He added: “It is a very, very volatile time that we’re in right now.”

“The man responsible for the murders [in Dallas] was Micah Johnson, but having said that, I do think the president by his inaction has contributed to a climate where these things can happen,” William Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, which represents about 240,000 law enforcement officers, said Sunday. “This president and his administration absolutely do not have our back and make our jobs more dangerous.”

Beijing says should be no South China Sea talk at Asia-Europe summit
BEIJING (Reuters) – The South China Sea is not on the agenda and should not be discussed at a major summit between Asian and European leaders in Mongolia at the end of the week, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Monday.
The Asia-Europe Meeting, or ASEM, will be the first important multilateral diplomatic gathering after the July 12 ruling by an arbitration court hearing a dispute between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea.
Tensions and rhetoric have been rising ahead of the ruling in the Dutch city of The Hague, a case which China has refused to recognize or participate in. Beijing says the court has no jurisdiction and China cannot be forced to accept dispute resolution.
China has repeatedly blamed the United States for stirring up trouble in the South China Sea, where its territorial claims overlap in parts with Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.
Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou signaled discussion of the South China Sea would not be welcomed at the event, which happens once every two years, as it’s designed to discuss issues between Asia and Europe.

Bin Laden’s son threatens revenge for father’s assassination: monitor
DUBAI (Reuters) – The son of slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has threatened revenge against the United States for assassinating his father, according to an audio message posted online.
Hamza bin Laden promised to continue the global militant group’s fight against the United States and its allies in the 21-minute speech entitled “We Are All Osama,” according to the SITE Intelligence Group.
“We will continue striking you and targeting you in your country and abroad in response to your oppression of the people of Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and the rest of the Muslim lands that did not survive your oppression,” Hamza said.
“As for the revenge by the Islamic nation for Sheikh Osama, may Allah have mercy on him, it is not revenge for Osama the person but it is revenge for those who defended Islam.”
Osama bin Laden was killed at his Pakistani hideout by U.S. commandos in 2011 in a major blow to the militant group which carried out the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
Documents recovered from bin Laden’s compound and published by the United States last year alleged that his aides tried to reunite the militant leader with Hamza, who had been held under house arrest in Iran.

On Thursday, a court in Cologne sentenced two men in the New Year’s Eve assaults. Hussein A., a 21-year-old Iraqi, and Hassan T., a 26-year-old Algerian, were handed suspended one-year sentences. Both arrived in Germany in the past two years, a court spokesman said. He declined to specify whether the two had sought asylum.
Officials have linked the sexual assaults to the influx of refugees. “There is a connection between the emergence of this phenomenon and the rapid migration in 2015,” Holger Münch, president of the German Federal Crime Police Office, told Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
He also predicted that many of the New Year’s Eve perpetrators will never be convicted. “We have to presume that many of those crimes will never be fully investigated.” Germany has relatively low CCTV coverage, which makes it more difficult for investigators to identify suspects.
Although it is not expected that significantly more CCTV cameras will be installed in the foreseeable future, other measures have been taken. Germany’s Parliament passed a stricter sexual-assault law last week that will make it easier for courts to sentence those who facilitate or are involved in assaults.
Lawmakers were facing intense pressure to pass such a law, particularly in the wake of the Cologne assaults. Most of the perpetrators in that city stand accused of groping and facilitating sex assaults as part of a group — accusations that were difficult to prosecute.
The stricter law is also supposed to make it easier for refugees to be deported if they are convicted in sex-assault cases — an aspect of the new law that activists and advocates for refugees have harshly criticized.
Halina Wawzyniak, a lawmaker from the Left Party, told The Washington Post last week that immigration issues and sexual-assault cases should not be linked, as refugees could end up facing a “double punishment” by being deported. “The debate used to be about ‘no means no’ — now all that is being talked about in social networks are foreigners again,” she said.

Over the weekend, Iraqi forces regained control of Al-Qayyarah air-base, 75 kilometers (about 50 miles) south of the city of Mosul. ISIS seized the base two years ago when its fighters swept south to the edge of Baghdad.
If Iraq’s military can consolidate control of the base, it would provide a valuable launching pad for the offensive to expel ISIS from Mosul. Al-Qayyarah is one of the largest airbases in Iraq.
But ISIS continues to demonstrate resilience and versatility. Its fighters are clinging on to positions inside the Syrian town of Manbij, a critical waypoint between Raqqa — the group’s administrative headquarters — and the Turkish border…”

“During a surprise trip to Baghdad, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced that the U.S. will deploy another 560 troops to Iraq — bringing the total U.S. troop levels authorized for the country to 4,647.
The additional troops will deploy in the coming days and weeks and will provide infrastructure and logistical support to the Qayyarah airfield, about 40 kilometers south of Mosul.
Earlier in the day, Carter said that U.S. and coalition forces will use the airfield, recently seized by Iraqi Security Forces, as a logistical hub in advance of the upcoming battle for ISIS-held city of Mosul.
“With the retaking of Qayyarah West airfield, the Iraqi Security Forces have once again demonstrated a serious will to fight,” Carter said in a press release. “I congratulate them on their recent successes and reaffirm that the United States, along with our coalition partners, will continue to do all we can to support Iraq’s effort to serve ISIL a lasting defeat.”
According to the Department of Defense, President Obama approved the deployment of the additional U.S. troops upon Carter’s recommendation after consulting with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford; Gen. Joseph Votel of the U.S. Central Command; and the commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland.

More than two weeks ago – before the massacre of police in Dallas – Breitbart Texas reported a warning from the president of the Cleveland police union, Steve Loomis. Cops and convention-goers, said Loomis, will be “sitting ducks” at the Republican National Convention, which begins on 18 July, a week from Monday, at Quicken Loans Arena.
Loomis and the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association were worried that the city leadership hasn’t been taking the acknowledged threat of large scale rioting seriously.
The hope of augmentation from police departments across the country hasn’t materialized, in spite of a $50 million special-event grant from the federal government to cover things like deployment expenses.
Problems include the fact that riot gear for the police force was ordered very late – and apparently, when Lana Shadwick reported on 22 June, had still not arrived in Cleveland. (Philadelphia’s police, by contrast, have had their riot gear for the Democratic convention for seven months. That allows them to train with it and adjust it for fit and functionality.)

Fight between Syrians, Turks over stray dog leaves two dead in central Turkey
Two people were killed and another three were wounded in a fight between Syrians and Turks which erupted over the kicking of a stray dog in the Bey?ehir district of the Central Anatolian province of Konya late on July 9. The fight started after Mehmet Bayraktar, 18, saw four Syrians kicking a stray dog and warned them not to do so at around 10 p.m., Do?an News Agency reported.
“Why did you kick the dog?” Bayraktar asked the group of Syrians, before the confrontation escalated into a fight involving knives.
Bayraktar, who was working in a gun factory, and four Syrians, who were identified as ?brahim, 21, Kas?m, 20, Abdullah Muhammed, 26, and Ahmed Sadi, 22, were wounded in the fight and taken to Bey?ehir State Hospital. Bayraktar, who suffered a stab wound to his heart, and ?brahim died during surgery, while a wounded Syrian was taken to Konya for treatment.
Bayraktar’s relatives gathered in front of the hospital after hearing about the incident intending to attack the wounded Syrians, but were prevented by the police. Reinforcements from the gendarmerie were called to the scene after the number of people in front of the hospital swelled.
The police intervened with tear gas due to the crowd’s insistence of entering the hospital and attacking the Syrians. Further police reinforcements and riot police were called to the scene from central Konya and security officers took precautions in front of the emergency ward of the hospital.
The police decided to send the two other wounded Syrians to another hospital in Konya due to concerns over their security. However, the crowd would not allow the Syrians to be taken out of the hospital, thus the police attempted to transfer the wounded in a civilian-plated police car waiting at the back door.
The crowd noticed that the Syrians were being taken out the back and started to kick and punch the police car. The police intervened once again with tear gas, and a person affected by the gas was hospitalized.
The wounded Syrians were taken out of the hospital and transferred to an ambulance outside of the district, before being taken to a hospital in Konya.
The crowd outside the hospital remained until the early hours of July 10, as Bey?ehir District Governor Muzaffer Ba??büyük and Provincial Police Chief Mevlüt Demir visited the hospital to make observations.
The police took further security measures for the funeral of Bayraktar on July 10.

This evidence has become available after the horrific Black Lives Matter-inspired massacre of police officers in Dallas during a Black Lives Matter demonstration. With five policemen dead, it was the deadliest attack on U.S. law enforcement since Sept. 11, 2001.

It’s Time to Designate Black Lives Matter a Terrorist Organization

At a Black Lives Matter (BLM) rally in Dallas yesterday, demonstrators protested the recent shootings of two African American men by white police officers in Minnesota and Louisiana. “Enough is enough!” the marchers shouted while they held signs bearing slogans like: “If all lives matter, why are black ones taken so easily?” Then, as we now know, an assassin opened fire on the law-enforcement officers who were on duty at the rally. Four policemen and one transit officer were killed, and six additional police were wounded.
No analysis of this atrocity would be complete without noting the now-indisputable fact that every word uttered by BLM and its mouthpieces is an unadulterated lie. The entire self-identified purpose of this movement—which is to demand “an immediate end to police brutality and [to] the murder of Black people and all oppressed people”—is rendered utterly fictitious by a single statement of fact: Of all suspects who are killed by police in the US each year, 41.7% are white, 20.3% are Hispanic, and 31.7% are black—even as blacks account for 38.5% of all arrests for violent crimes, which are the types of crimes most likely to trigger a confrontation with police that could result in a fatality.
These numbers do not in any way suggest a lack of restraint by police in their dealings with black suspects. They suggest precisely the opposite. And that’s the dirty little secret. Evidence of systemic racism in police shootings simply doesn’t exist. Anywhere.
The premise underlying BLM’s whole mission is a lie.

BURMA – MYANMAR -Hundreds march in Yangon over official label for Muslim minority

Several hundred people marched in Myanmar’s commercial capital Yangon on Sunday to protest the government’s new term to describe the stateless Muslim minority group in western Rakhine state.
The government presented a proposal last month to the Human Rights Council in Geneva that the “Muslim community in Rakhine state” should be used instead of the controversial terms “Rohingya” or “Bengali” to describe the approximately 1 million Muslims in Myanmar.
Bengali, a term used by most Myanmar people, suggests that the self-identified Rohingya Muslims in troubled Rakhine state are not members of country’s 135 ethnic groups, but illegal immigrants from neighbouring Bangladesh.
About 500 people, including monks from the Buddhist nationalist Organisation for Protection of Race and Religion, better known as Ma Ba Tha for its Burmese acronym, were marching from the central Shwedagon pagoda to demand the government use the term “Bengali.”
The 1 million or so Rohingya Muslims in western Rakhine state are described by the UN as the world’s most persecuted minority group.
“We can’t accept the use of new term for these illegal immigrants. That’s why we joined the march,” said 24-year-old engineering student Kaung Wai Yan. “I am a Rakhine Buddhist. I know there are ethnic Muslim groups in Rakhine state, like the Kaman. But Bengali is different from them. They are not our ethnicity. They are not our citizens,” Kaung Wai Yan told journalists as he and his seven friends joined the march.
“They are Bengali. They must be called Bengali,” he shouts.
The Kaman, or Kamein, are Muslims and belong to an ethnic group in Rakhine that is officially recognised by the government. Organiser Win Ko Ko Latt of the Myanmar National Network said the government must cancel the proposed new term for Bengali Muslims in Rakhine state.
“The government should be wise in handling the Rakhine issue. No one would accept the new term,” he said. “They would face a series of demonstrations until they revoke the term and call them Bengali. We are planning a march in Mawlamyaing of Mon state next week.”
Thousands joined the marches across Rakhine last week over the issue.

Analysis: Automatic voting against Israel at UNESCO? Not anymore
Israel was caught flatfooted in April when UNESCO’s 58-member executive board adopted a resolution with language that essentially expunged any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount.
Israel’s embassies and consulates abroad were not mobilized to defeat the proposal, angry letters were not sent to the members of the executive committee, and friendly countries were not contacted to press other nations to vote down a resolution that simply falsified history.
Not this time though. April’s vote was a wake-up call, and as the 21 members of UNESCO’s World Heritage committee convening in Istanbul on Tuesday consider yet another resolution erasing any Jewish connection to Jerusalem, the Foreign Ministry this time is waging a full-court press to block the move.
This includes a letter by Foreign Ministry director-general Dore Gold to the 16 countries on the committee with whom Israel has relations; diplomatic lobbying efforts in their capitals; and mobilizing friendly countries outside the body – such as France, Germany and Britain – to enlist them to pressure the body not to pass such a resolution.
France shocked Jerusalem in April when it voted for the UNESCO Jerusalem resolution, but it has since apologized. This regret is now being translated into efforts not to let the same mistake happen again.

“Egypt’s population increased by over 17 million in the past decade, the country’s official census authority said in a statement on Monday to mark World Population Day.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said the Egyptian population has swelled from 72.8 million in 2006 to 90.1 million in the beginning of 2016, a rise of 23.7%.
The statistics agency said that an increase of 3.3 million people was estimated from 2006 to 2009 before another whopping 14 million added to the overall population over the next seven years…”

“Egypt has foiled a third attempt of illegal immigration in less than 24 hours, the military spokesman announced Monday.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Samir said in an official statement that the Egyptian navy inspected a fishing boat sailing off the coast of Alexandria, where it discovered 179 people of different nationalities – including Egypt, Sudan, Comoros, Eretria, Guinea, and Ghana – on board.
According to Samir, the boat was destined for southern Europe. He did not specify which country the board was expected to land…”

“The world’s cultural sites are under a broad attack, according to UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, speaking at the organization’s 40th World Heritage Committee meeting held in Istanbul late on July 10.
“World heritage is under attack everywhere, from Mali to Syria. This is war crime,” Bokova said.
“We should have a strong response. This is a task for UNESCO. We will support all those who are struggling to protect this heritage,” she added.
The UNESCO chief also said holding the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in Istanbul was an expression of support for Turkey after the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attack on Istanbul’s Atatürk International Airport on July 28, which claimed 45 lives.
In remarks made in a video message aired at the opening of the committee meeting, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m called on the international community to help UNESCO more in preserving world heritage sites, stressing that conflicts particularly damage cultural sites…”

“Turkey’s government is blocking access to independent investigations into alleged mass abuses against civilians in southeast Turkey, where security forces are fighting Kurdish militants, Human Rights Watch said on Monday.
Thousands of civilians have been caught up in fighting between the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants and security forces that flared in July after a two-year-old ceasefire collapsed.
U.S.-based Human Rights Watch said in a report that alleged abuses in the conflict included unlawful killings of civilians, mass forced civilian displacement, and widespread unlawful destruction of private property. It said at least 338 civilians had died after being caught up in clashes.
In a release on its website, Human Rights Watch called on the government to promptly grant the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights permission to enter the area and investigate in accordance with its standards.

He said during four days from June 26-29, the Border Guard patrols foiled an attempt by 123 people who tried to enter the Kingdom by boats from the Sudanese shores.

US lawmakers to ask Pakistan if it is a friend or enemy (khaama, July 11, 2016)

“Frustrated with the persistent support of certain elements in Pakistan to militant groups, several senior US lawmakers are expected to ask Pakistan if it is a friend of foe of Washington.
The senior lawmakers and their witnesses are going to discuss the issue during a hearing that would be jointly held by House Subcommittees on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade and Asia and the Pacific.
The lawmakers are hoping that it would help them determine how to deal with Pakistan, an old ally many in Congress no longer trust.
The chairman of one of the subcommittees is a Republican lawmaker, Congressman Ted Poe, who never makes an effort to hide his dislike for Pakistan, according to Dawn News in Pakistan.
“This hearing will give members the opportunity to learn more about Pakistan’s longstanding ties to terrorist groups and allow for a more informed reassessment of US foreign policy priorities vis-à-vis Islamabad,” said Mr Poe while explaining why he had called the hearing.
Former US ambassador to Afghanistan and United Nations, Zalmay Khalilzad, is one of the three witnesses who have been asked to explain Pakistan and its policies to the lawmakers.
The other two witnesses are Bill Roggio, senior editor, Long War Journal, and Tricia Bacon, Assistant Professor, American University.
This comes as Khalilzad recently urged the United States to adopt a policy of total isolation against Pakistan and turn it into a “second North Korea” to force it to cooperate in Afghanistan.
“The United States has spent tens of billions of taxpayer dollars in aid to Pakistan since 9/11. Now, 15 years later, Pakistan’s military and intel services are still linked to terrorist organisations and little success has been made to stabilise the region,” said Congressman Matt Salmon, who heads the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific.
“We must take a closer look at US goals, expectations and our aid spending in the region. In this hearing, we will discuss the Administration’s failed policy towards Pakistan and debate the best way forward,” he said.”

“The refugee crisis and the threat of terrorism in Europe are very much related to one another in the minds of many Europeans, according to a survey conducted across the continent.
Monday’s poll by the Pew Research Center found that in eight of the ten European nations surveyed, half or more believe that the influx of migrants increases the likelihood of terrorism in their country. Many Europeans also worry that migrants will become an economic burden and take away their jobs and social benefits.
The survey covered the European countries of Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Hungary and Poland. It was conducted from April to May — before the British referendum to leave the European Union and the extremist attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport last month.
The continent saw an overwhelming influx of more than one million migrants in 2015 — with the majority arriving from Muslim countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Almost all of them applied for asylum in the EU with Germany and Sweden as their top destinations…”
