CAIRO (Reuters) – Egypt on Monday detained and moved to deport popular talk show host Liliane Daoud, security sources said, hours after the Lebanese journalist announced the cancellation of her TV programme.

Daoud’s detention comes amid a growing crackdown on media that has seen scores of journalists tried in court and jailed.

Her show, on the privately owned OnTV network, disappeared from airwaves after the channel was sold by billionaire Egyptian investor Naguib Sawiris in May.

  2. Triple bomb attacks claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group have killed at least 35 people and injured 24 in Yemen’s south-eastern city of Mukalla.

The militants struck at sunset as soldiers were preparing to break their day-long fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, officials say.

The attacks involved a suicide bomber, a car bomb and an improvised explosive device, Reuters news agency reports.

  3. UK: Corbyn supporters rally for Labour leader on Parliament Square

Thousands of demonstrators rallied on Parliament Square in London, Monday, to show their support for Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who is facing a backlash from members of his own party following the results of the UK’s referendum to withdraw from the EU.

  4. The EU-Progressive Paradigm Is Falling Apart
The rise of populist and patriotic passions.

Long-developing cracks in the Western political establishment’s century-old paradigm suddenly widened this year. In the US Donald Trump, a reality television star and real estate developer, improbably became the Republican Party’s nominee for president. Bernie Sanders, a socialist and long-time Senate crank, challenged the Democrats’ pre-anointed nominee Hillary Clinton, who prevailed only by dint of money and un-democratic “super-delegates.” Meanwhile in Europe, the UK voted to leave the European Union, perhaps opening the flood-gates to more defections.

These three events share a common theme: populist and patriotic passions roused by arrogant elites have fueled a rejection of Western establishments and their un-democratic, autocratic, corrupt paradigm.

That political model can be simply defined as technocratic and transnational. Starting in the 19th century, the success of science and the shrinking of the world through technology and trade created the illusion that human nature, society, and politics could be similarly understood, managed, and improved by those trained and practiced in the new “human sciences.” This new “knowledge” said people are the same everywhere, and so all humans want the same things: peace with their neighbors, prosperity, and freedom. The absence of these boons, not a permanently flawed human nature, explains the history of war and conflict. National identities, along with religion and tradition, are impediments to institutionalizing this “harmony of interests.” International organizations and covenants can be created to enforce this harmony, shepherd the people towards the transnational utopia, and leave behind the misery and wars sparked by religious, ethnic, and nationalist passions.

  5. “Your Fault!” Why Western Women Get Raped by Muslims
PC Europe caters to Islamic teachings on Western women being sexually immoral.

Are Western women responsible for provoking Muslim men into raping them? Some Europeans certainly seem to think so.

Recently, after a 20-year-old Austrian woman waiting at a bus stop in Vienna was attacked, beat, and robbed by four Muslim men from Afghanistan—including one who “started [by] putting his hands through my hair and made it clear that in his cultural background there were hardly any blonde women”—police responded by telling the victim to dye her hair:

At first I was scared, but now I’m more angry than anything. After the attack they told me that women shouldn’t be alone on the streets after 8pm. And they also gave me other advice, telling me I should dye my hair dark and also not dress in such a provocative way. Indirectly that means I was partly to blame for what happened to me. That is a massive insult.

She is not the first victim to be blamed. According to FrontPage Magazine editor Jamie Glazov:

Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker’s response to the assaults under her watch [when 1,ooo German women were sexually molested and raped by Muslim migrants] has been to reprimand the victims, suggesting that they had asked for it. She has vowed to make sure that women will change their behavior, so that they don’t provoke Muslims to sexually assault them again. There will now be published “online guidelines” for women to read so they can prepare themselves…. Oslo Professor of Anthropology Dr. Unni Wikan’s solution for the high incidence of Muslims raping Norwegian women is not for the rapists to be punished, but for Norwegian women to “take their share of responsibility” for the rapes because Muslim men found their manner of dress provocative. Norwegian women, she has counseled, “must realize that we live in a Multicultural society and adapt themselves to it.”

These responses overlook the fact that, from the very start of Islam 14 centuries ago, European women—even chaste nuns—have always been portrayed as sexually promiscuous by nature.

  6. Orlando Shooter’s Father Supported Taliban, Mother-in-Law Backed Hamas

So much for the “radicalized by the internet” media narrative. Omar Mateen didn’t need the internet. He had his parents and in-laws, who should never have been in this country.

Omar Mateen’s father, Seddique Mateen of Port St. Lucie, hosted his own television show between 2011 and 2015 during his run for Afghan president. In dozens of videos broadcast on YouTube, the father’s main complaint involved the Durand Line, a demarcation established by the British in 1893 that separates Afghanistan and Pakistan. The homeland of the Pashtun ethnic group straddles the border.

Although it is not known if the Mateens are Pashtuns, the Afghan Taliban is mostly made up of Pashtuns. In one video, the elder Mateen expresses his gratitude to the Taliban and condemns Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, and the United States for supporting it, according to a Washington Post report.

“Our brothers in Waziristan, our warrior brothers in (the) Taliban movement and national Afghan Taliban are rising up,” he said. “Inshallah (Allah willing), the Durand Line issue will be solved soon.”

  7. Hizbullah Threatens Israel—As Its Own Support Sinks
Even the terror group’s longtime Lebanese backers are fed up.

How is Hizbullah doing after about four years of fighting in Syria on behalf of the Assad regime, as part of the axis led by Iran?

In terms of bluster, and particularly threats against Israel, Hizbullah hasn’t changed much. But in other ways—and not only with regard to the often-cited 1500 fighters Hizbullah has lost on Syrian soil—the war is taking a toll on the Shiite terror organization. That includes growing unpopularity in Lebanon itself—even among its traditional supporters.

On June 18, speaking to a Lebanese audience on Hizbullah’s Al-Manar TV channel (as translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, MEMRI), Hizbullah MP Walid Sukkarieh painted a scenario in a future war between Hizbullah and Israel.

He asked: “What would the capturing of settlements mean?”

Hizbullah has indeed been planning for years to capture Israeli communities in the Galilee in a prospective war.
