  1. Moveon.Org raising funds from Trump protests, warns more disruptions to come

Moveon.Org is conducting fundraising activities from the Chicago protests against Donald Trump that prompted the Republican presidential front-runner to cancel a rally there Friday, and promises that more disruptions are on the way.

“Last night, without consulting local police, Donald Trump abruptly cancelled a rally in Chicago in the face of massive and overwhelmingly peaceful student-led protests,” MoveOn.org wrote in an email Saturday to members. “We’re being flooded with aggressive emails and social media posts from Trump supporters. Some of them are threatening. We refuse to be intimidated by Donald Trump, Fox News, or anyone else.”

  2. D’Souza: Hillary Film Could Earn Me ‘Life in Prison’

D’Souza said he was locked up for 8 months in a “federal confinement center” for a “relatively minor campaign finance infraction” following the release of his film, 2016, about President Obama.

“If that film got me eight months in the slammer, this new movie is going to earn me life in prison,” he said at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). “It’s time to take the gloves off.”

D’Souza described the film, Hillary’s America, as a sordid history of the Democratic Party from the very beginning all the way through Hillary Clinton.

“The Democrats want us to believe they’re the party of equal rights and human rights and civil rights. The truth is the Democrats are the party of slavery, and Indian removal, of broken treaties and the Trail of Tears, they’re the party of segregation and Jim Crow and lynching and the Ku Klux Klan, they’re the party of Japanese internment, and opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fair Housing Bill of 1968,” he said. “This is their actual history so what they do is they try to cover it up.”

  3. Merkel Set to Stay on Migrant Course After Germany Elections

Chancellor Angela Merkel looks set to stick to her course in Europe’s migrant crisis following state elections that sent conflicting signals about Germans’ opinion of her liberal approach — and highlighted the need for unity in her party.

The nationalist, anti-migration Alternative for Germany party, or AfD, powered into three state legislatures Sunday after campaigning against Merkel’s welcome for a huge influx of migrants last year.

That made clear a sizeable minority is uneasy about Merkel’s policy, with AfD attracting people who didn’t previously vote as well as taking votes from established parties.

But many viewed the overall outcome as a sign of support for her approach.

Gero Neugebauer, a political scientist at Berlin’s Free University, said that “Ms. Merkel’s refugee policy was supported by the majority of voters” — even if they ended up voting for other parties.

He said “doubts will persist in parts of her own party” but she won’t back off seeking a European solution to the migrant crisis and seeking cooperation with Turkey.

Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union lost two states it had hoped to win back from center-left incumbents. They included Baden-Wuerttemberg, an economic powerhouse and longtime conservative stronghold in the southwest where the CDU embarrassingly finished behind the left-leaning Greens.

  4. AfD success smashes right-wing populism taboo in Germany

Berlin (AFP) – Traumatised by its Nazi past, post-war Germany has carefully relegated right-wing populist movements to the fringes of politics, but the anti-migrant AfD may have muscled its way in from the cold.

    populists eye poll surge AFP

With discontent growing in Germany over Chancellor Angela Merkel’s liberal refugee policy, the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) on Sunday captured seats in the regional parliaments of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Rhineland Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt.

It garnered as many as close to one in four votes in Saxony-Anhalt while in the other two states, support reached between 12.5 and 15 percent, projections based on partial results showed.

    • Merkel Loses, Anti-Immigrant Party Hits New High in Germany

Merkel isn’t out yet. But the Merkel era is over. And this was a self-inflicted injury. An utterly insane act of political hubris that Merkel somehow expected to survive.

German voters dealt a stinging rebuke to Chancellor Angela Merkel and her open-door refugee policy in three state elections Sunday, delivering historic gains for an upstart anti-immigrant party and showing how the migration crisis is scrambling politics in Europe’s largest economy.

The populist Alternative for Germany, which focused its campaign on opposition to Ms. Merkel’s migrant policy, won nearly a quarter of the vote in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, according to projections based on exit polls and early results. The result, if confirmed in the final vote count, would represent the party’s best total in a regional election since its founding three years ago, and was several percentage points higher than recent polling had suggested.

The party, known as the AfD, also won parliamentary seats in two former West German states voting. Supporters gathered at the AfD’s election-night celebration in Berlin chanted “Merkel must go!” after the results started to come in.

  5. We probably sold Iraq the live Hellfire missiles found on a passenger flight, headed for Oregon
    By J.E. Dyer March 13, 2016

    The insanity continues to expand.

Daniel Greenfield at FrontPage pointed out earlier today that two live-round Hellfire missiles, which were detected by a dog on a plane that arrived in Serbia on Saturday, had come from Lebanon. As he notes, Lebanon is “dominated by Iran and its Shiite terrorist allies” (principally Hezbollah).

It’s virtually certain that the U.S. government sold the Hellfires in question to Iraq, sometime in the last few years. We’ve sold Iraq thousands of AGM-114 Hellfire IIs, in the K, N, and R variants.

Iraq, like Lebanon, is increasingly dominated by Shia allies of Iran. Iran is deeply embedded with Iraqi forces in the fight against Islamic State, and there is nothing surprising about the (completely unauthorized) transfer of U.S. military weapons from the Iraqi forces, through Iranian Qods Force connections, to Hezbollah.

That’s quite probably how the two Hellfires that landed in Serbia, as cargo on a commercial passenger flight, came to be shipped out of Lebanon.

    • Missiles from Iran-Allied Territory Intercepted On Way to US

This is an interesting, but still very much a developing story.

Serbia’s authorities are investigating reports that a cargo package bound for the U.S. containing two missiles with explosive warheads was found on a passenger flight from Lebanon to Serbia.

N1 television said the package with two guided armor-piercing missiles was discovered Saturday by a sniffer dog after an Air Serbia flight from Beirut landed at Belgrade airport.

Serbian media say documents listed the final destination for the AGM-114 Hellfire missiles as Portland, Oregon.

The Lebanon origin is what makes this story somewhat different because the country is currently dominated by Iran and its Shiite terrorist allies. So if this was a terrorist plot, which we don’t know that it was, it appears likelier to have originated from Iran than from ISIS. Portland however was the site of a more conventional Sunni Islamic terror plot. But Shiites also have a presence there.

Another twist was the recently “misplaced” Hellfire that ended up in Cuba.

  7. ‘Marginalized’ Students Make Wild Demands, Threaten to ‘Mobilize’ if Ignored
An insane 19-page list including racial quotas and free money.

A group has formed at the University of Arizona that is demanding an end to alleged racism on campus, or else. They are the Marginalized Students of the University of Arizona and with this formation comes a 19-page list of demands the school must implement or they will “mobilize.”

The list is very detailed and covers a wide range of issues the group feels has largely been neglected by campus administration. The demands cover issues for black students, Asian students, LGBT students, Native American students, and female students.

“It is important to note that these are Demands, not simply requests or suggestions,” the letter states. “Should these demands not be met or properly negotiated to our standards, we will mobilize our students.”

The demands are based around a “10-year plan” to “increase retention and graduation rates for marginalized students, sustain diversity curriculum and training, and promote a more safe and inclusive campus environment.” The goal of this plan is to directly affect the “finances, health and wellness” of students and faculty.

It’s a doozy of a read and there is a lot to chew on, but here are just some of the more fanatical demands:

School staff, residence assistants, Greek associations, et al, must receive “Cultural Competency and Safe Zone training.”
A general student emergency fund that does not get charged as debt to the student — that is, $35,000 for each Cultural and Resource Center.
More financial aid to marginalized “identities,” along with a full time financial aid counselor for each group.
Increase in financial support for students with food insecurity.
Counselors of color for Campus Mental and Physical Health Services.
All restrooms should include small trash cans in all stalls, free tampons, and free menstrual pads.
In addition to free condoms, Dental Dams, external and internal condoms, and ?Preexposure prophylaxis (?PrEP) must be accessible through Campus Health.
Implementation of Trigger Warnings within course materials and content.
Correct pronouns to be respected within classroom settings and gender neutral restrooms.
Specific religious “spaces” specific to student demographics, including Native students to “practice Spirituality.”
Deferred housing fees for ALL Black students.
A revision and transparent posting of the consequences and processes for students, faculty, staff who are found to be involved with microaggressions, aggressions, and hate speech in the classroom, on campus, and online.
Allow only black students to occupy the Martin Luther King Jr. Building, plus new renovations to the building.
    Child care facilities.
Rape victim advocacy and stiffer punishments for sexual misconduct.
Diversify faculty, school promotions, curriculum and all administrative practices to represent these “marginalized” groups.

As The College Fix notes, making all of these changes would cost a fortune, but nowhere does the letter suggest how the school could pay for such demands. What an oversight! (And an incredibly convenient omission.)

  8. ISIS’ Crimes Against Christians Detailed in New Report

“‘How is the life there in Iraq?’”

That’s what people ask, said Father Douglas al-Bazi, a priest at the Mar Elia refugee camp in Erbil, Iraq.

“Actually, the easy answer is, there are no life in Iraq.”

Al-Bazi, a former ISIS hostage, talked about his own treatment at the hands of ISIS. He said he saw his church and car blow up in front of him. He was shot by an AK-47 in his leg, he said, and his captors broke his teeth, nose, and back with a hammer.

“I still keep my shirt when they kidnapped me, and still I look to my blood every day and I remember, and this is what happen even to my people every day,” he said.

Al-Bazi was one of the speakers at a news conference Wednesday on a new report containing evidence of ISIS crimes against Christians that was submitted to the State Department.

“The evidence contained in this report as well as the evidence relied upon by the European Parliament fully support—and I suggest to you compel—the conclusion that reasonable grounds exist to believe the crime of genocide has been committed against Christians in the region,” Carl Anderson, CEO of the Knights of Columbus, said while presenting the report Thursday at a National Press Club news conference.

  13. Migrant Crisis: Two Thirds Of Arrivals Are ‘Basically Illiterate’
A senior German academic has joined the chorus of voices expressing concern over the low educational standards of newly arriving migrants, and the significant knock-on effects that is bound to have on the German educational system.

President of the University of Hamburg and chairman of the German Educational Action Council Dieter Lenzen has pointed to the enormous cost of teaching hundreds of thousands of newcomers basic language skills, pointing in particular to the Syrian community. While the proportion of Syrians arriving and claiming to have university degrees — around 15 per cent — isn’t much below the German population as a whole, the vast majority of the remaining 85 per cent are in a significantly worse state, unable even to perform basic tasks like reading a bus timetable.

Saudi Arabia has been staging what it says is the largest ever military exercise in the region. Twenty Islamic countries have been taking part, with thousands of troops deployed in the desert in northern Saudi Arabia, backed by tanks and warplanes.

    • NY Post – American ISIS member surrenders to Kurds

IRBIL, Iraq — A Palestinian-American member of the Islamic State group gave himself up to an Iraqi Kurdish military unit in the country’s north on Monday, an Iraqi Kurdish general said, a rare instance of a voluntary surrender of a militant fighting with the extremist group in Iraq.

The man had been “lurking near the peshmerga lines” since late Sunday night, according to Maj. Gen. Feisal Helkani of the Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces, which are playing key role — along with the Iraqi military — in battling the extremist IS group.

Helkani said his troops first tried to shoot the man, assuming he was a would-be suicide bomber.

“Then in the morning, he walked across and gave himself up,” Helkani said, adding that the man is a Palestinian-American who was fighting with IS in Iraq. The surrender took place on the front lines near the town of Sinjar, which was retaken by Iraqi forces from IS militants late last year.

Helkani identified the man as Mohammed Jamal Amin and said he was carrying with him a large amount of cash, three cell phones and three forms of identification, including a US driving license. The IS fighter is currently being held by the peshmerga troops for interrogation, Helkani added.

The Iraqi Kurdish general did not provide further details or a hometown for the man but a photograph of the IS fighter’s driving license from Virginia was posted on social media sites, identifying him as Mohamad Jamal Khweis, 27, from Alexandria, Virginia.

The discrepancy between the fighter’s family name on the license and the one provided by the Kurdish general could not immediately be reconciled. His first name was also spelled differently.

In grainy cell phone footage, also posted on social media shortly after the surrender, the man is seen surrounded by Iraqi Kurdish troops and confirming that he is from the United States and that he is Palestinian. In response to an interrogator’s question, he says he was in the city of Mosul, which is under IS control.

American ISIS member mistakenly walks into Peshmerga hands on way to Turkey

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdish Peshmerga captured an American member of the Islamic State (ISIS) on the Shingal front on Monday, said a local commander.

Muhammad Jamal Amin is a Virginia-born American citizen of a Palestinian father and Iraqi mother from Mosul.

According to the Peshmerga commander of the Shingal front who didn’t want to be named, the ISIS militant had mistaken the Peshmerga territory for the Turkish border.

The commander said that Amin had entered Syria from Turkey two months ago from where he had traveled to Mosul.

On his way back to Turkey he had mistakenly walked into the Peshmerga hands.

The Peshmerga commander said that a number of cell phones, some money and ID cards were seized from the militant.

The Peshmerga fired on him before he reached their base and later detained him.

CNN – State media: Vladimir Putin orders Russian troops out of Syria

    • TASS – Putin orders to begin withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria starting March 15

The Russian leader hopes the withdrawal of Russian troops will become a good motivation for launching negotiations between political forces in the country

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued an order to begin withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria starting from March 15.

“I think that the tasks set to the defense ministry are generally fulfilled. That is why I order to begin withdrawal of most of our military group from Syria starting from tomorrow,” Putin said on Monday at a meeting with Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

In Putin’s words, during their operation in Syria, Russian military have demonstrated professionalism and teamwork, having performed all the set tasks.

“Besides, our military, soldiers and officers demonstrated professionalism, teamwork and ability to organize combat work far away from their territory, having no common borders with the theater of war,” he said.

During the operation in Syria, Russia managed to create even if a small, but efficient military alighment of multiple-type forces and means, the president said. “Efficient work of our military has created conditions for the start of a peace process,” the president said.

“With the participation of Russian military, Syrian troops and patriotic forces in Syria have managed to turn the tide in fight against international terrorism and take the initiative on practically all directions,” Putin stated.

Russian bases in Syria’s Tartus and Khmeimim are to continue operating in routine regime, the president went on to say.

“Our bases — the naval base in Tartus and the airbase at the Khmeimim airfield — will operate in a routine mode. They are to be safely protected from the land, from the sea and from air,” he told the defense and foreign ministers.

Those Russian servicemen who will stay in Syria will be engaged in monitoring the ceasefire regime, Putin added.

Russia’s aerospace forces launched pinpoint strikes against the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra targets in Syria on September 30 after the Federation Council upper parliament house unanimously approved President Vladimir Putin’s request for the use of the armed forces against terrorists in Syria.

The Russian air group in Syria comprises more than 50 warplanes and helicopters, including Su-34 and Su-24M bombers, Su-25 attack aircraft, Su-30SM fighters and Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters. Air strikes have been delivered at military hardware, communications centers, transport vehicles, munitions depots and other terrorist infrastructure facilities. The military operation has been conducted at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Troops withdrawal to motivate negotiations in Syria

The Russian president said he hopes the start of the withdrawal of Russian troops will become a good motivation for launching negotiations between political forces of that country and instructed the foreign minister to intensify Russia’s participation in organization of peace process in Syria.

“I hope today’s decision will be a good signal for all conflicting parties. I hope it will sizably increase trust of all participants in the process,” the president said. “I ask the Russian Foreign Ministry to intensify Russia’s participation in organizing the peace process to solve the Syrian problem,” he added.

For his part, Lavrov told the president that the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces had created the conditions for the political process in Syria. Russia’s top diplomat recalled that Russia had consistently advocated the establishment of the intra-Syrian dialogue.

He noted that the intra-Syrian talks had resumed in Geneva earlier on Monday. “The work is not easy, it is yet to be understood how all these groups (taking part in the talks) could gather at the same table together,” Lavrov said. “But the process has got underway, and it is in our common interests to make it sustainable and irreversible.”

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin has discussed and coordinated the decision on the beginning of withdrawal of Russia’s forces from Syria with Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad.

“Everything voiced at the meeting [of Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu] was told our Syrian colleagues and coordinated with president [Bashar] Assad,” Peskov said.

The Syrian President told Vladimir Putin by telephone that he was ready to start a political process in Syria as early as possible, the Kremlin press service said.

“The Syrian leader said he was ready to start a political process in the country as soon as possible. [Putin and Assad] expressed the hope that the full-scale UN-mediated talks between the Syrian government and opposition representatives in Geneva would produce concrete results,” the Kremlin said.

    • Russia: Putin orders Russian military withdrawal from Syria – Full statement

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu to begin the withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria starting Tuesday, during a meeting in Moscow on Monday.

“I consider the objectives that have been set for the Defence Ministry to have generally been accomplished. That is why I order the start of the withdrawal of the main part of our military group from the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic starting from tomorrow,” Putin said during the meeting with Shoigu and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Moscow will keep its Hmeymim airbase in Latakia province in order to control the observation of ceasefire agreements in the region, Putin added.

The Russian Air Force began its operations in Syria on September 30 last year “in accordance with an official request from the president of the Syrian Arab Republic [Bashar Assad],” Putin said in a previous statement. Russian jets have been launching air strikes on strategic and economic targets of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and other terrorist targets in Syria.

    • Telephone conversation with President of Syria Bashar al-Assad

At Russia’s initiative, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Syria Bashar al-Assad.

      March 14, 2016
      20:40

The two presidents discussed the implementation of the joint statement by Russia and the United States, in their capacity as co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group, on cessation of hostilities in Syria. They share the view that the ceasefire has made possible a dramatic reduction in the bloodshed in the country and improved the humanitarian situation. It has also made it possible to put in place conditions for starting a peace process under UN aegis.

The two leaders noted that the operations conducted by Russia’s Aerospace Forces have brought about a real turnabout in the fight against the terrorists in Syria, throwing their infrastructure into disarray and causing them substantial damage.

In this context, Mr Putin said that Russia’s Armed Forces have fulfilled their main mission in Syria and a timetable for the withdrawal of the Aerospace Forces’ main air grouping has been agreed. Russia will maintain an aviation support centre in Syria in order to monitor compliance with the ceasefire.

The President of Syria noted the professionalism, courage and heroism of the Russian service personnel who took part in the military operations, and expressed his profound gratitude to Russia for providing such substantial help in fighting terrorism and providing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population.

Mr al-Assad said that he is ready to help organise a political settlement in the country as soon as possible. The two presidents expressed the hope that the full-format talks between Syrian Government officials and opposition representatives under UN aegis in Geneva will produce concrete results.

Left-wing fascists go for Donald Trump.

The riot planned and executed by the Left at the canceled Donald Trump campaign rally in Chicago on Friday was just the latest in a long series of mob disturbances manufactured by radicals to advance their political agendas.

Even so, it is a particularly poisonous assault on the American body politic that imperils the nation’s most important free institution – the ballot.

“The meticulously orchestrated #Chicago assault on our free election process is as unAmerican as it gets,” tweeted actor James Woods. “It is a dangerous precedent.”

This so-called protest, and the disruptions at subsequent Trump events over the weekend, were not spontaneous, organic demonstrations. The usual culprits were involved behind the scenes. The George Soros-funded organizers of the riot at the University of Illinois at Chicago relied on the same fascistic tactics the Left has been perfecting for decades – including claiming to be peaceful and pro-democracy even as they use violence to disrupt the democratic process.

Activists associated with MoveOn, Black Lives Matter, and Occupy Wall Street, all of which have been embraced by Democrats and funded by radical speculator George Soros, participated in shutting down the Trump campaign event. Soros recently also launched a $15 million voter-mobilization effort against Trump in Colorado, Florida, and Nevada through a new super PAC called Immigrant Voters Win. The title is a characteristic misdirection since Trump supports immigration that is legal. It’s the invasion of illegals who have not been vetted and are filling America’s welfare rolls and jails that is the problem.

  20. 87% of NYPD Cops Say They Are Less Safe Under Left-Wing Mayor

Political and social elites have embraced the racist #BlackLivesMatter hate group. Which means that its claims to be oppressed is a laughable joke. When you’re backed by presidential candidates and billionaires while you kill cops and terrorize people for their skin color, you’re not the oppressed. You’re the oppressors.

While the elites have embraced pro-crime policies, from freeing drug dealers to making it easy for criminals to escape going to jail, ordinary Americans and police officers are caught in the line of fire.

The vast majority of NYPD officers hate their jobs and believe they were a lot safer before Mayor Bill de?Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton took office, according to a new survey by the city’s police union.

The polling of more than 6,000 of the NYPD’s roughly 24,000 rank-and-file revealed a resounding lack of passion for the job, with cops on average rating morale at just 2.49 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Roughly 87 percent of cops said the Big Apple has become “less safe” since the new administration took over at the beginning of 2014, with 55 percent of those respondents describing New York City as “a lot less safe.”

Ninety-six percent of cops also said that relations between cops and the communities they patrol have gotten worse during the same period — even as Bratton has made repairing those relationships a cornerstone of his policing strategy.

Meanwhile, 89 percent of cops polled said they would quit the NYPD if they were offered a higher-paying job in law enforcement, while 86 percent said they would not recommend the job to family members.

  21. Muslim Migrants Bring Pregnant Women to Sneak Into Europe
“That’s why so many of the migrants are pregnant”

This story is actually worse than the headline.

Gliwan’s latest idea came to him as he drove along with the teenage women. He decided he would call the women’s contact, pretend to be their taxi driver and get directions. He would then call a band of Third Force fighters to join him. He would drive the girls to the safehouse, using them as bait, and then nab the smuggler.

They encountered the smuggler, who also came from Niger, at a safehouse in the city of Jufra. Gliwan and his comrades demanded he tell them what he planned to do with the two girls. In exchange for being truthful, they would release him, he said.

    The answer stunned them.

“He was supposed to house them, and then two other guys were supposed to impregnate them, and then when they reach the seventh or eighth month, they’re put into a vessel on the coast,” said Gliwan.

  22. Obama’s CIA Boss Doesn’t Support “Government Spying”

Well he’s certainly in the wrong business.

CIA Director John Brennan expressed his personal view that the CIA should be not be viewed as a spy agency. In the 24 February interview he said, “I don’t support government spying…. We don’t steal secrets… We uncover, we discover, we reveal, we obtain, we elicit, we solicit. All of that.”

Brennan is also the genius responsible for ideas like these…

In a paper he published in July 2008, Brennan called on U.S. officials to “cease public Iran-bashing,” and advised the U.S. to “tolerate, and even … encourage, greater assimilation of Hezbollah into Lebanon’s political system, a process that is subject to Iranian influence.”

Nation reporter Robert Dreyfuss, meanwhile, revealed that Brennan had once told him that (as Dreyfuss paraphrased): “talking to Hamas and Hezbollah is the right thing to do.”

Brennan stated that the 20% recidivism rate of former Guantanamo detainees “isn’t that bad” when compared to criminal recidivism.

Speaking in June 2011 about how the Obama administration would deal with terrorism following the recent death of Osama bin Laden, Brennan dismissed any notion that Islamic terrorists might attempt to build a caliphate in the Middle East.

  23. Men destroy homeowner’s Trump sign, threaten gun violence

An incident last week that started with the destruction of a campaign sign escalated to a man being threatened with a handgun and ended with three people arrested on multiple charges, according to a Dalton Police Department news release.

The incident started shortly after 1 p.m. in the area of Woodland Drive. Three males were walking down the street when one of them, Mauricio Rodriguez, 18, pulled up a Donald Trump for President campaign sign from the lawn of 605 West Woodland Drive and crumpled it up before throwing it into the street. Rodriguez then kept walking with Alexander Moreno, 17, and Hector Ayala, 20.

The residents of the home were sitting outside and saw Rodriguez damage the sign. David Grant, 43, followed the three into the street and demanded that they stop and fix his sign. Rodriguez, Moreno, and Ayala kept walking and Grant followed them, grabbing Rodriguez by his vest. At that point, Alexander Moreno lifted up his shirt to reveal a handgun in a holster. He pulled the gun out and pointed it at Grant, telling him to let Rodriguez go. The three then fled on foot.

  24. Loretta Lynch warns local courts on fining the poor

WASHINGTON (UPI) — The Department of Justice on Monday pledged $2.5 million for efforts aimed at preventing local courts in the United States from overcharging poor defendants with fines and fees.

The agency announced it was sending a letter Monday morning to courts in all 50 states, calling on judges and court administrators nationwide to eliminate what it says are unconstitutional policies that have kept poor people in a cycle of fines, debt and jail, and advising how to properly levy fines and fees.

The letter was penned by Vanita Gupta, head of the agency’s Civil Rights Division, and Lisa Foster, director of the Office for Access to Justice.

“Individuals may confront escalating debt; face repeated, unnecessary incarceration for nonpayment despite posing no danger to the community; lose their jobs; and become trapped in cycles of poverty that can be nearly impossible to escape,” Gupta and Foster write. “Furthermore, in addition to being unlawful, to the extent that these practices are geared not toward addressing public safety, but rather toward raising revenue, they can cast doubt on the impartiality of the tribunal and erode trust between local governments and their constituents.”

The $2.5 million in grant funding is proposed for localities with plans to “test strategies to restructure the assessment and enforcement of fines and fees.” The funding and letter come a year after the Justice Department concluded that the Ferguson, Mo., police department and court system ran a moneymaking fine and fee program that appeared to disproportionately target African-Americans.

Last year’s Justice Departments report on Ferguson said African-Americans make up about 67 percent of the city’s population but account for 85 percent of traffic stops, 90 percent of citations, 93 percent of arrests and 88 percent of cases in which use of force was used

    • The poor are going to commit the crimes and the Obama administration is going to make the tax payers pay the fines. The criminals aren’t punished and have no incentive not to commit more crimes.

  25. BERNIE SANDERS

Bernard “Bernie” Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 8, 1941, to Polish immigrants of Jewish descent. After attending Brooklyn College for one year, he transferred to the University of Chicago (UC) and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1964. At UC, Sanders joined the Young Peoples Socialist League (youth wing of the Socialist Party USA) as well as the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Peace Union. He also was an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee; participated in an American Friends Service Committee project at a California psychiatric hospital; and worked briefly (as an organizer) for the United Packinghouse Workers Union, which, like all the CIO unions, had a number of influential Communists among its ranks.

After college, in 1963, Sanders lived and worked for a number of months in an Israeli kibbutz known as Kibbutz Sha’ar Ha’amakim (KSH), which was co-founded by Aharon Cohen, an Arabist who was a harsh critic of Israeli policy and was arrested for spying for the Soviet Union in the 1950s. The founders of KSH referred to Joseph Stalin as the “Sun of the Nations,” and a red flag was flown at outdoor events held at the kibbutz. Sanders stayed at KSH as a guest of the Zionist-Marxist youth movement Hashomer Hatzair (HH), which pledged its allegiance to the Soviet Union; some left-wing groups described HH as Leninist and even Stalinist. HH made it plain that its cooperation with Zionists was a temporary expedient designed to help pave the way for a socialist revolution; that it viewed Israel’s independence as a transitional phase in the development of a bi-national socialist state which would ultimately end Israel’s existence as a Jewish entity.

HH founder Ya’akov Hazan described the USSR as a second homeland, and in 1953 he lamented “the terrible tragedy that has befallen the nations of the Soviet Union, the world proletariat and all of progressive mankind, upon the death of the great leader and extolled commander, Josef Vissarionovich Stalin.” “We lower our flag in grief in memory of the great revolutionary fighter, architect of socialist construction, and leader of the world’s peace movement,” Hazan added. “His huge historical achievements will guide generations in their march towards the reign of socialism and communism the world over.” In a similar vein, Eliezer Hacohen, one of HH’s ideological leaders, called Marxism “the key to renewing our spiritual creativity.” (Another individual who gravitated to an HH kibbutz as a young man was Noam Chomsky.)

Following his time at Kibbutz Sha’ar Ha’amakim, Sanders moved to Vermont where he worked variously as a carpenter, filmmaker, writer, and researcher. In 1964 he married a young woman named Deborah Sanders; the marriage lasted only until 1966. Over the next few years, Sanders worked variously as a psychiatric-hospital aide and a Head Start preschool teacher in New York; as a Department of Taxes employee in Vermont; and as a staffer for a nonprofit organization called the Bread and Law Task Force, where he registered people for food stamps. In 1969 he fathered a child out-of-wedlock.

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/652482/Bomb-squad-scrambled-to-city-centre-over-double-discovery

“A BOMB squad has been scrambled to Liverpool city centre after two suspicious devices were found.

Police have set up a 200 metre cordon around a part of the city centre while road and rail networks have come to a halt as experts assess the danger.

Reports suggest the discovery on Pall Mall is of two unexploded World War Two bombs.

The discovery was made by a road contractor who called emergency services just after 11am.

Merseyside Police have stressed the discoveries have not been confirmed as bombs – although bomb disposal experts are now at the scene.

A nearby Mercedes garage was evacuated as police set up the cordon in the area.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue said fire engines from Kirkdale and Kensington fire stations were at the scene, adding there was more than one suspected bomb.

The discovery was made near the £90m North Point development, where an 18-storey building is under construction.

Roads and rail have been affected by the closure with services from Southport suspended between Sandhills and Liverpool Central, while services to Hunts Cross may be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from Liverpool Central.”

  28. Bahrain deports Lebanese ‘Hezbollah supporters’ (BBC, Mar 14, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-35802233

“Bahrain has deported several Lebanese residents for allegedly belonging to the Lebanese Shia militant group Hezbollah, the interior ministry says.

The ministry did not give any further details, but the move came days after the Arab League declared Hezbollah a terrorist organisation.

Sunni-ruled Bahrain has previously accused Hezbollah and its ally Iran of aiding Shia militants in the country.

Iran and Hezbollah have denied the allegations.

It is not known how many Lebanese were deported, although last week Lebanese media said 10 families had been ordered to leave, AFP news agency reported.

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia warned that any of its citizens or residents found to support Hezbollah would face harsh penalties.

The Sunni power – Iran’s main regional rival – last month withdrew billions of dollars in promised military aid to Lebanon, where Hezbollah has strong influence in the national unity government, and warned its citizens to leave.

Riyadh was angered by the failure of Lebanon’s Hezbollah-backed foreign minister to support an Arab League resolution condemning attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran in January following the execution of a prominent Shia cleric in Saudi Arabia.

Since then, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have told their citizens not to travel to Lebanon, and the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) has designated Hezbollah a terrorist group, accusing it of “hostile acts”.

The GCC’s move brought member states into line with the United States and the European Union – although the latter has only blacklisted the group’s military wing.”

  31. Foreign born students ‘weaken’ school results (thelocal, Mar 14, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.se/20160314/foreign-born-students-weaken-school-results

“Record immigration to Sweden has played a “small but not insignificant” role in national school test scores tumbling, according to Skolverket, the Swedish National Agency for Education.

Sweden has grabbed international headlines in recent years as its pupils’ scores in maths and reading comprehension have slid down the global Pisa rankings, the OECD’s core tool for measuring students’ abilities.

On Monday a national report by the Swedish National Agency for Education pinned at least part of the problem on rising immigration to the Nordic country and warned that municipalities need to be given more resources to help new arrivals.

“We already know that immigrant students on average give a lower performance in school. Now we know more about how much the increasing proportion of immigrant students has affected scores,” said the agency’s director Anna Ekström.

Skolverket’s figures suggest that the proportion of students who did not get good enough grades to move on to the final three years of school in Sweden (gymnasiet) rose from just over 10 percent in 2006 to more than 14 percent in 2015.

Its report concludes that record immigration during this period played a “small but not insignificant” role in affecting results, due to the number of immigrants joining classes midway through the academic year rising from three to eight percent.

Ekström noted on Monday that the refugee crisis was continuing to put a strain on Sweden’s education system.

“Lately there have been many newly arrived students and for schools and municipalities that have received many students, this can be a big challenge,” she said in a press statement.

Sweden’s Education Minister Gustav Fridolin responded to the new report by admitting that Swedish schools have not always been able to provide the necessary support for immigrant children.

He told the TT news agency that he would push for the most affected schools to be given more resources.

“We need to put our focus on building equality into the system and we need to focus on schools. It is one of the most important things we can do in Sweden in order to be sustainable as a country.”

Reading and science Pisa test scores in Sweden have dropped by more than 20 percent since 2006, while mathematics results have fallen by 15 percent.

However a separate ranking last week listed the Nordic country as fifth in the world for literacy, arguing that access to newspapers, libraries, computers and educational resources was much greater in Sweden than in most other countries.

The research was led by John W. Miller, president of Central Connecticut State University in North America, who spent a decade analyzing literacy around the world and concluded that his list was much more nuanced than other studies such as the Pisa rankings which are focused purely on test results.”

  32. Merkel to stick to refugee policy despite election defeat (thelocal, Mar 14, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.de/20160314/merkel-to-stick-to-refugee-policy-despite-election-defeat

“German Chancellor Angela Merkel stood firm Monday on her liberal refugee policy, despite a drubbing in regional elections described as a “debacle” in which disgruntled voters turned to the anti-migrant AfD.

Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) was at the receiving end of voter anger, suffering defeats in two out of three states in Sunday’s elections – including traditional stronghold Baden-Württemberg.

The stinging result for the conservative CDU was accompanied by a surge in backing for the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD), which had sparked outrage by suggesting police may have to shoot at migrants to stop them entering the country.

The elections were the biggest since Germany registered a record influx of refugees that reached 1.1 million in 2015, and largely regarded as a referendum on Merkel’s decision to open the doors to people fleeing war.

The mass-circulation Bild newspaper described it as a “day of horror” for Merkel, as calls multiplied for her to change tack.

But her spokesman shot that down.

“The federal government will stay its refugee policy course, fully determined, at home and abroad,” the spokesman, Steffen Seibert, told a news briefing.

“The goal must be a common, sustainable European solution that leads to a tangible reduction of the number of refugees in all (EU) member states.”

Seibert said Merkel would continue to pursue a strategy of working to bolster the security of the EU’s external borders and cooperating with Turkey to reduce refugee flows.

The German leader herself, who has consistently refused to impose a cap on refugee arrivals, was expected to give her first reaction to the polls in the early afternoon.

While they have no direct impact on her chancellorship, the regional polls in the southwestern states of Baden-Wuerttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate as well as Saxony-Anhalt in the east served as a key test ahead of general elections in 2017.

The results could also strengthen the hand of her adversaries, including strident critics in the CDU’s Bavarian sister party, the CSU.

The main reason for the poor CDU showing “is the refugee policy. It makes no sense at all,” CSU chief Horst Seehofer said at a party meeting on Monday.

Demanding changes, Seehofer said: “It can’t be that after such an election result, the answer to the electorate is: everything will go on as before.”

Merkel also risks isolation at a meeting of EU leaders opening Thursday, when they will seek to finalise a deal with Turkey on stemming the migrant influx.

The chancellor has attacked a decision by Balkan states to close their borders to refugees, but Bavarian daily Nuernberger Nachrichten noted that “she is benefiting more than anyone from the border closures that she is criticising”.

“After this election, Merkel must, more than ever, give an explanation.”

    ‘Black Sunday’

The German press said the results delivered a clear message to Merkel.

Spiegel Online described it as “Black Sunday for the CDU”.

“Merkel will now have to live with the accusation that she has allowed the AfD to establish itself to the right of the CDU,” Spiegel said in an editorial.

For most of the last decade, Merkel enjoyed stellar popularity ratings as she pushed middle-ground policies which helped her party capture ground from the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD). But critics say it has left her conservatives’ right flank exposed….”

Several leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have left the country amid growing confusion in the ranks following dissociation of prominent leaders from the party.

Former MQM leaders Waeem Aftab, Anis Qaimkhani, Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Raza Haroon joined Mustafa Kamal following his announcement to launch a new political party.

MQM MPA Faisal Subzwari, whose name had been doing the rounds for being the next in line to join Kamal’s fold, left the country for the US early Monday morning.

However, MQM’s spokesperson Aminul Haque told The Express Tribune Subzwari had informed the party before leaving for a month.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said at least 21 militants of the terror group were also wounded in the explosion.

A statement by MoD said the militants were looking to transport an explosive device from Mazdaki area of Achin district to Shedil Bazar of the same district when the explosives went off prematurely.

The loyalists of the ISIS terrorist group are attemtping to continue to their insurgency activities despite the terror group suffered setbacks during the recent months as a result of the coordinated military operations.

The provincial officials in Nangarhar province announced earlier this month that the counter-terrorism operations to suppress the activities of the terror group concluded after 21 days.

The officials further added nearly 300 loyalists of the terror group were killed or wounded during the operations.

The operations were launched by the Afghan security forces amid concerns that the loyalists of the terror group are establishing a regional operational base as they were attempting to consolidate operations with the terror group in Syria and Iraq.

The coalition officials estimated around 1,000 to 3,000 Islamic State fighters are stationed in in eastern Afghanistan and are trying to establish a base of operations in the rugged mountains of Nangahar Province.”
